How long does that potion last?

Hi! Here's a guide I wrote for how long Minecraft potions last in approximation with real time. This is for Java edition only, and hopefully will be useful in stuff like fanfiction.

For reference, a full Minecraft day is 20 minutes in-game. That's 10 minutes of daytime, 3 minutes of dawn/dusk, and 7 minutes of night. I will be equating 10 minutes of daytime = 12 hours of a real-life day. I'm calculating this via comparing percentages, so let me know if I have messed up the math. Potion times are from the wiki and instant potions such as healing or harming are left out for obvious reasons.

If I may share my headcanon on how Fae develop in the @valrayne-faeu by @antlered-prince and @owl-bones? Alright great, buckle up, this thing is 1171 words long

Below is a list of what might happen in which month of the ~1 yearlong transformation.

This is a general overview, and your own transformation does not have to perfectly follow this scheme. If any of the symptoms are delayed by more than two months, it is highly advised to see an experienced medic.

Further development:

First heat-stroke strikes after 1.5 years to ensure a full transformation before mating

When you learn to harness magic is entirely up to how much you are exposed to over the transformation- the more, the earlier you may start to feel the touch of it.

You are very likely to develop night vision if you reside in the winter realm more than two months a least during your transformation.

Your instincts may change to that of a fae/animal- which one is entirely unpredictable

You will develop the ability to take a person's name as soon as you have the slightest fiber of magic within your soul

Many fae have grown taller during transformation. This is does not necessarily happen.

Rarely there are ‘after symptoms’. These show only after 2-3 years and can reach from antennae, over chewing tools to second arm pairs or second pairs of thumbs. These symptoms are usually easily removed by medics, if requested.

Challenges/Discomforts during transformation and how to handle them appropriately:

Itches:

Can reach from light itching to full on rashes

Keep area cool and/or moist. If any of these treatments feel uncomfortable, DO NOT continue cooling/moisturizing

Pains:

Can have all levels of pain

Pain killers, soothing magic, warming and/or avoiding to put pressure on affected area might soothe the pain

If no symptoms have been recognized yet, and you are suffering from headaches, it is very likely to be your horns starting to form

If paws/hooves are developing, avoid walking long distances and keep them warm

Tingling:

Apply light pressure to areas via bandages

If no improvement, leave it b. It is magic settling in your body

Use of magic will worsen the condition

General discomfort:

Perfectly normal to feel uncomfortable during transformation

Soothing magic or satisfying a craving(if you have one) may help

Heat strokes and shivers:

May happen in all courts equally

If heatstroke:

Keep yourself cool

Drink more

You may ask a trusted fae to perform a long lasting cooling spell

Light exercise might help if you feel comfortable enough to do so

If shivers:

Avoid cold at all costs, as the risk of getting sick has been exponentially grown

Keep as warm as possible & comfortable

Rest

Flower-lines, Wing capsules, horns, tails:

Flower-lines: You may apply light pressure and wear clothing over your flower-lines, as long as comfortable. If uncomfortable, you may ask your medic for help- some flower-lines can be removed.

Wing capsules: It is advised to keep your wing capsules uncovered. If you do not feel uncomfortable when wearing clothing over them though, it is your choice to keep them covered or not. Keep your wing capsules warm to ensure a proper development.

Horns: Horns may hurt while growing. There is no sue in covering them up, as there are no nerves within them. They are made from the same material as human finger nails and hair.

Tail: If you develop a tail, there are many tailor shops that offer individually tailored clothing for folk with tails of all kinds. Short tail can be tugged away in wide pants, and if needed, you may wrap a long tail around your waist.

It is important to note that during transformation, your body settles with magic. This temporarily weakens your immune system as your body is using the energy to change its anatomy.

One of the most important things during transformation is to keep yourself comfortable, as stress if highly counterproductive to a calm transformation. There will be challenges, but having a trusted fae with you that is willing to help you is a good help to overcome such obstacles.

If you are feeling unsure of your transformation progress, do not compare yourself to other once-humans, as every transformation is unique.

It is advised to search the help of an experienced medic in case of uncertainty or sickness.

No idea how this turned from a headcanon to a fae-textbook-paragraph, but I hope you enjoyed my rambling =)

hi folks! we're excited to see so much interest in this listen/relisten club for wolf 359! we wanted to run another poll for some feedback on the schedule: originally we were thinking no more than an hour to an hour and a half of episodes each week and a week's break in between each season. what this would mean is that with an october 1st start date, the relisten would last all the way until the very beginning of august 2025! you can see the proposed schedule with episodes HERE.

while we think the pace of that schedule is best, it is, obviously, a pretty long time commitment. we wanted to gauge if that schedule was preferred or if folks would rather a more condensed schedule (with more episodes to listen to per week and/or a tighter schedule to listen to a season). this would shorten the relisten length and maybe keep folks on board, but also could mean that catching up is harder if anybody falls behind. any other ideas/questions are welcome!

Why Girls Who Don’t DnD?

How often have you said to yourself, “Man, I wish I could experience that for the first time again?” While we can’t reset your brain, you can live vicariously through the Girls Who Don’t D&D podcast. 

If you're looking for a podcast with relaxed gameplay, fantastic humor, great editing, and effects, you should read on to learn more. This wonderful adventure showcases the beautiful experience of watching three girls fall in love with Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). 

Starting the Pod

The podcast starts with Cory, the Dungeon Master (DM), explaining that he has invited three girls, Indy, Alana, and Stacey, who have never played D&D, into his world of Kalee with premade characters. If you, the listener, haven’t played before, you’ll learn a lot just from listening. Cory purposely doesn’t edit out explanations of how to play. I��m confident my experience was better because I was still learning to play the game myself as I started listening.

Right from the start you will hear how much work Cory puts into editing and pre-recording. He recruits people to voice-act for non-player characters (NPCs) or to play out memories or scenes. Some additions are just for the listeners, giving us a little extra information about the lore of the world. This includes the origin of magical artifacts, gods, and sometimes an NPC’s perspective that the players don’t get to hear.  It feels like listening to an audiobook and honestly, I think “booktok” would love Girls Who Don’t DnD. 

We learn that the three player characters, Freya, Kaa'Riin, and Morrigan, have lost their memories and need to recover them. The story and the discovery of who the player characters are and what happened to them work in tandem with the players themselves learning the game in a beautiful way. 

Power gamers and hardcore strategy? We don’t need that here. (Tosses book over shoulder). This group is made of story-tellers who usually choose to progress the narrative over strategy. At first, it's like watching Without A Recipe or the British Bake Off challenge where they have no clue what they are supposed to be making. This makes it all the more special when the players get more comfortable with the gameplay and more grounded in their characters. 

About the Team

Cory, "(who owns all the books but hasn't read them)"* completely absorbs the chaos the girls bring to the table and somehow also keeps them immersed in the story. He holds onto the rules of D&D loosely, letting his players use their abilities in different and unique ways. You still get full epic fights with no pulled punches, yet they feel more cinematic than the usual D&D grind. Outside of combat, Cory introduces challenging puzzles and encounters that present more opportunities for his players to think outside the mechanics of the game.

I adore Alana, Indy, and Stacy. I have some difficulty with telling their voices apart, but I never felt like that took away from my enjoyment of the show. Over time they develop their characters and have different play styles. They all have so much personality and bring their own flavor to the table. 

Indy, playing Freya the Rogue, has to be the most classic of first-time players, starting a little hack-and-slash happy, but eventually, she gets really into the strategy of the game. Freya is a cheeky scamp of a character and Indy leans naturally into the rogue class.  

Alana, playing Morrigan the Sorcerer, is usually the most sensible of the group. She is a leader in a way. There is so much more I want to say but I can't think of anything that isn't a big spoiler. Playing a sorcerer for your first time playing D&D is never easy, but Cory was able to ease her into the role and she runs with it.

Stacey, playing Kaa'Riin the Bearbarian (Druid with some Barbarian), has some epic combat moments. She can change from one animal to another without reverting to humanoid form, which deviates from traditional Druid rules. This decision, as well as other tweaks of the rules, help the pacing of the overall production. 

And sure, you're probably thinking their whole schtick is that they don't know D&D, so wouldn't it lose its charm after they get better? Absolutely not. Not even a little bit. This table is casual, silly, charming, and gripping. They make me feel like I am with my best friends playing our chaos gremlins together.

had a voucher for a free turkey, got the turkey, helped my gf make the turkey, it's the best turkey ive ever had we might be the best to ever done it

here's how we did it

dry brine the turkey for 1.5 days (turkey was already defrosted. we put the turkey in a big oven-safe glass dish and then put That on a bigger metal tray for spill-proofing, put salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion power, paprika, chili powder, and cayenne all over the raw turkey, wash hands. put in fridge)

put the stuffing in the turkey (made turkey stuffing from a box- stove top is the brand name i think. we also put in two bundles of green onion, a whole bulb of mashed garlic, most of a yellow onion (chopped into 16'ths), and a good handful of baby carrots. woulda put celery in there if we had any but we didnt. wash hands)

poured melted butter over the turkey (1.5 sticks of butter, with salt, garlic salt, garlic powder, basil, oregano, paprika, and chili powder melted in a saucepan then spread generously over the turkey with a brush. only use 1/2 or 1/3 of the butter on this step. wash hands)

turkey in 325 F oven for ~2 hours

turkey out of oven, poured the rest of the butter over it (be careful not to over fill the glass dish. wash hands)

put tin foil over turkey (to keep in moisture. two strips, plenty of extra length, dont cheap out here it's very important. wash hands)

turkey back in oven until internal thermometer says it's done (depends on weight of turkey and several other factors, for our 22-lb turkey in a rather old and leaky oven it took another 2.5-3ish hours)

yaaaay turkey (you can pour the juice at the bottom into that butter saucepan from earlier, put it on low-medium heat, slowly add flour (sift if you can) until it's the consistency you prefer for gravy. because that's gravy. yaaaay gravy. wash hands. keep foil over the turkey when you store it in the fridge (preferably within 3 hours of its completed cook time))

Wild Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes

Also known by the nicknames the Texas diamondback rattlesnake, the adobe snake, and the buzz tail, to name a few, the western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) is found throughout the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. This species is one of the iconic symbols of the region, and particularly of the deserts and scrublands in which it lives.

C. atrox has several features that distinguish it from its eastern relative. The western diamondback is slightly smaller, reaching a length of 1.5 m (4.9 ft) and a weight of 6.7 kg (14.7 lbs) at full maturity. They are also lighter in color, typically sporting tan, blueish gray, or pink scales with a darker diamond pattern along the body which gives the species its common name. Lastly, the face has white markings around the eyes and nostrils, and the tail below the rattle is white with black bands. Males and females appear similar; the most reliable way to tell the difference is by the tail. Male tails are thicker, longer, and taper gradually from the body, while female tails narrow abruptly at the base of the body.

The rattle itself is a unique feature of rattlesnakes. It is made of a series of hollow keratin chambers. When a rattlesnake is threatened, a set of muscles at the base of the tail constrict and cause the keratin chambers to vibrate against each other to produce a rattling sound. These muscles move incredibly fast, at about 50 times a second, and a rattle can be sustained for up to three hours-- not that most animals stick around that long. This rattle is present at birth as a tiny 'button', but juveniles are unable to rattle until their first molt, when a second segment is added. Rattlesnakes continue to add segments at each molt throughout their lives, but it's not uncommon for the top segments to become loose and fall off over time.

Mating for the western diamondback rattlesnake occurs in the fall and spring, from October to March. During the winter, individuals hibernate in abandoned burrows or under rocks, though some may emerge prematurely to seek out mates. Once they locate a female, males engage in an elaborate courtship ritual in which they chase the female, 'dance' in front of her, and fight other rival males. If the female is receptive, copulation can last for several hours. Following a successful mating encounter, females gestate for 167 days. Rattlesnakes are ovoviviparous, meaning that the female incubates her eggs inside her body and then gives birth to live young. After hatching, juveniles only stay with their mother a few hours before striking out on their own. Individuals reach maturity at three years old, and can live to be as old as 25.

Due to their venomous defence, C. atrox has few terrestrial predators. Their primary threats come from hawks, eagles, wild turkeys, and roadrunners, the latter of which have specifically evolved to hunt rattlesnakes. In contrast, the western diamondback rattlesnake has a broad appetite and hunts a variety of rodents, birds, and lizards. They are ambush predators, able to detect their prey through smell and heat. Rattlesnakes have a 'pit' on each side of their heads that contain a heat-sensing organ; this organ is so sensitive that an individual can detect prey only 1/10 of a degree warmer than its background.

Of the rattlesnake species, the western diamondback is considered one of the more aggressive, and is responsible for a majority of the snake bites in the United States. Its venom can be fatal to humans, partially due to the large amount of venom delivered in a single bite. However, C. atrox does not seek out human encounters, and only strikes when cornered. Antivenom for this species is available, and if administered soon after being bitten the recovery rate for victims is quite high.

Conservation status: The IUCN has designated the western diamondback rattlesnake as Least Concern. This species is heavily hunted throughout its range, both for its perceived threat to humans, and for its valuable meat and skin.

Hi! That is so sweet of you. If it helps, I don't even know what my writing style is! Most of the time I stick to a few rules:

1) Avoid starting sentences with the same letter ('T' is very common because of The and 'H' because of He or His)

2) Two adjacent sentences shouldn't be of the same length (unless done so on purpose for a specific effect) and have the same number of commas

You'll notice it immediately if you look at any of my writing that I stick to those rules pretty vehemently lmao. It's just a quirk of mine that will bother me if I don't do it, but it does force me to get pretty creative with how I word and phrase things so maybe trying it out might be helpful.

I'm going to post soon so I say you should start reading chapter 39 cause chapter 40 is like... 32k words long? I need to double check that but it's definitely over 30k, which means that with the average reading speed of 3 minutes per 1k it should take 1.5 hours to get through it
