okay. trust me, i love women, and i love the idea of making my favs women lovers but the idea of laios being gay really appeals to me because of his background. this isn’t fueled by yaoi since i don’t even ship the only m/m relationship i bring up here, i just think it adds a nice layer to his disconnect with his own humanity

“Even if…?” Gretchen repeated, breathlessly. The wisdom the brown-haired girl sometimes let out made her ache because there was always a layer of sadness, suppressed sadness, to it.

“Okay,” Gretchen pulled her gaze away and stared up at the sky. A gorgeous sight to behold, truly, a mix of a dusty blue and those radiant oranges, pinks, and yellows that bled into the sky.

“Hey, me and Janis are going to get going, Thanks for inviting us.” Damian startled her, Janis dried her hair in the background and flashed Gretchen a goofy grin that made her smile back, then shift her attention back to the 

“Okay, sure, thanks for coming.” She sat up straighter. They left, and one by one, everyone followed, bidding her goodbye. Leaving her with Karen.

“Hey, remember when we sat up there?” Karen pointed to the brick wall that framed her backyard, nostalgia washed over her, remembering having her dad lift her and help her scramble onto there to watch the sunset with Karen, Regina, and Janis. Gretchen’s mom would bring them snacks and they’d eat sandwiches, yet her favorite days were just Karen and her.

“Come on!” Karen lept up, effectively startling her.

“What?”

“Come on, silly, duh.” That gave her no more information, but she was dragged to the back of the yard by a very joy-filled Karen.

She wanted to be wanted, but if she told her how she felt would she feel the same? Should she risk everything she had with her now because of it? Because was in love with her…?

They were silent for a while, her mind calmed when Karen’s fingers laced through hers because fingers locking with fingers could close almost any gap, even her own gaping spaces. Something that I always think about when I see people arguing against those in the aroace community that want them to stop ignoring Alastor's identity is...what are you stanning?

Certainly not canon Alastor. As far as I'm concerned, as a writer and artist, a character's sexuality is part of their character itself, no matter if it's explored or treated as another trivia about them, it's still part of their character and partly influences their actions.

By erasing his aroace identity you take away part of his character, a big part too. So you're only simping for the sexualised romanticised version of him the fandom has created, because in actuality Alastor would never act that way.

At this point just pick another character who is actually open to these things and leave the one spec of rep we have alone

However, there is a vocal section of men, straight and gay, that mock Taylor Swift. I learned it was because she isn't sexy to them. A lot of people who find her sexy are lesbians. She doesn't make sexually explicit degrading music which is usually what you need to be an uber popular woman in today's music market. So the female icons gay men of today flock to are all hot women showing their tits and ass.

once a post that got popular that said people need to leave lesbian women who are apart of the slash shipping industrial complex alone, because it doesn't mean attraction to these characters, it is just a dumb male centered hobby, and It compared it to how gay men love sexy starlets. It's why homophobic Nicki Minaj will always have a more loyal young gay following than Taylor Swift. Everyone on the post kept saying all lesbian shippers are actually bisexual. They couldn't fathom why women would be doing the woman hobby, identifying and engaging with male characters if they weren't sexually attracted to them.

Yet no one questioned the sexuality of gay men obsessed with the sexual appeal of female popstars. They can't just be talented, they have to be sexy. And so many gay dudes commented some version of "of course we wouldn't like her, she's flat, sexy as cardboard, etc misogynistic insults." So many gay men are mad when Billie Eilish wears baggy clothes and doesn't have her tits out. Why are you as a man invested a sexy woman if you're not attracted to her? Can it be you identified with these women growing up and still as a man you benefit on some level from the sexual exploitation of women in media. It can be a completely neutral and (or a negative thing) devoid of sexual attraction for you. The same thing with straight men, they idolize big strong masculine men in media or athletes, to the point of hero worship, collecting merch excessively, demanding that every male character be a muscular beast in the live action adaptations, posters on their walls, obsessive curating their online life about them. Get mad when even hot female characters take the limelight away from their male favorites. Are all these men bi or gay? You wouldn't think that.

So how about we apply this to lesbians? While tumblr is filled with openly faux lesbians (bi and straight up straight women dating men) there is a concerted effort to always question a woman's word, and believe everything a man says. Do we think lesbians raised in male dominated society are born inoculated against male worship/centeredness, even if it's not sexual. Straight men aren't. Do you believe lesbians are inherently born with a feminist mindset, and there aren't male worshiping lesbians out there. That there are certain hobbies that make a woman a lesbian, and some that disqualify her? There are some lesbians getting surgery to have a faux dick attached to her person, without ever wanting to ever be sexual with a real deal dick. it's clear that we are just as vulnerable to male hero worship as anyone born in this patriarchal society, and sometimes it manifests in the most womanly of ways, slash shipping.

Sexuality Headcanon:

It's hard to say anything for certain with Johan's identity. How much is for show/acted and how much is his own genuine wants. It is very noticeable that when he goes to charm people (in a sexual way or otherwise) it's most often men, but it's difficult to say if that's because of personal preference or because they are just easier to manipulate. I would say there's a slight preference for men because going out of dates with Jan was absolutely not necessary, he could've gotten all the information he needed through regular persuasion or a casual chat. He also gives me strong ace vibes.

Gender Headcanon:

Also hard to put into words. I'd say either agender as in he really has none because he has made himself/become empty or bigender as in his own gender and the one of his sister. He does seem to prefer masculine or what is generally seen as boy's/men's clothes even when he was still living with his mother, but I don't know how much of that is his own will and how much is him just not wanting to stick out and fitting into society. I also wouldn't say he's solely wearing women's/girl's clothing because his mother raised him that way or because he wants to imitate his sister. Because the clothes he wears are different from Nina's. Hers are much more casual and unisex, while Johan deliberately goes into a more feminine direction. And in this case I don't think it's to fit in because he could do that perfectly well with Nina's clothing style as well.

A ship I have with said character:

Jan. Somehow I'm always gravitating towards murderer/sweet, naive and slightly delusional guy. I fully believe Jan could come around eventually to giving Johan another chance, seeing that Johan is able to be kind like how he helped his mother gain mental clarity. Johan just has to show that he will be murdering a little less in the future. But either way, I already like their interactions as is and I think the way Johan treats Jan is really interesting. He doesn't kill him, despite Jan knowing quite quite a bit about him and he even helps him before leaving Prague. There's definitely some potential.

A BROTP I have with said character:

Nina lol. I love these kinds of twisted, codependent twin relationships. And oh boy do they have trauma and drama between them. Honestly, the entire backstory about their mother's choice, Red Rose Mansion and their escape from Czechoslovakia alone is giving me so much food for thought. The fairy tales interwoven with it give it the extra surreal feeling, similar to how both of them see their childhood. The way both of their mentalities changed, the things both of them had to endure, the haunting imagery of Johan waiting alone in the empty apartment for Nina to return. It's just so incredibly good and the way you gradually find out about it is even better. Johan helped Nina by taking in her trauma (telling himself eventually it was his), but he also needed her to stay close and support him because he couldn't take it otherwise. Really one monster eating the other.

A NOTP I have with said character:

Johan/Tenma. I don't like Tenma and idk I just never saw any basis for it. Johan fixates on Tenma as well, but I don't see anything sexual or romantic in that.

A random headcanon:

I think he wears women's clothing or lives as Nina or under some other women's name even when it isn't necessarily benefitting his plan. He could do the same thing as a man, but he just decides to be a woman sometimes because why not (people tend to treat him nicer or overlook him easier too).

General Opinion over said character:

Love him, one of the best villains in anime and manga.

Sexuality Headcanon:

Either bi or a lesbian. She probably isn't quite sure about it yet either. I'd say she's more into girls because all her attempts at dating guys seemed a bit...strained. Like it didn't feel quite natural, even when Johan wasn't inserting himself into the situation.

Gender Headcanon:

She seems pretty happy as a cis girl. Although I wonder if things might be different if Johan and her roles were switched. She always had a strong sense of identity and internal strength though, so she would've probably processed such a situation very differently from Johan.

A ship I have with said character:

Lotte. She clearly has a huge crush on Nina and as far as love interest go, she seems like the best option. Relatively well adjusted while also adventurous and knows how to handle Nina when she's having a little existential crisis. Now Nina just has to be made more aware of Lotte's feelings for her...she can be a bit oblivious, but to be fair, she was hunting her murderous brother, so understandably a bit preoccupied.

I think her mother knew who she was giving away and she didn't do it because she doesn't love Nina but because she thought she would be more likely to handle Red Rose Mansion and Bonaparte as well as you possibly could. Like she wouldn't be as easily influenced by the picture book, not to the point of harming herself and others at least. You can see at times that Nina also has a murderous side to her, but she has it way better under control than Johan.

General Opinion over said character:

Like her. I used to not be that much of a fan, but she has really grown on me over the past years.

Had a weird/annoying interaction on tiktok. There’s this trend where people are using Adele’s “When We Were Young” and it’s primarily couples so the first picture is of them now with their current ages and the second picture is of them when they first got together. This quickly spiraled into straight up criminal activity. This one girl is 19 with a 28 year old and their new baby. Their first picture is of her at 16 and him at 25. WOOP WOOP THAT’S THE SOUND OF THE POLICE 🚨

Anyway, I decided to parody this by editing a picture of myself with Alcina and our current ages(me at 30 and her at 117 according to my headcanon of her being born in 1906) and then for our “young” picture I used a picture of a human egg to represent me and an edit of her to look more human at 44 pre cadou. Might as well insert the pics.

Laughs all around. Then of course some random gremlin crawls out of the woodwork and says, and I quote

“More power to you. I believe that her love life is very obscure so everyone can headcanon her as anything.”

Like, whomst the fuck are you?? Literally no one asked. I was parodying a trend, it had nothing to do with her sexual orientation, it has to do with my personal love of her. So I basically said “no one’s stopping you, but she has been confirmed to be a lesbian.”

To which I get

“Link?Because I need to see for myself. I'm still going to head canon her as bi with a stronger woman preference but still”

Again, no one asked and I said they could look it up on Antony Johnston’s instagram themselves and that I’m not stopping them from doing what they want, but it’s annoying how lesbians literally can’t have anything.

I’m glad I got the screenshots of their comments because they either deleted them or blocked me. They were a blank, private account of course. Always are.

It’s just so annoying like why are you so insistent that she must like men in some way?? What makes you look at a woman who has only ever allowed women to serve her, even in death as they roam the dungeon and fly around the rooftops while the men she kills get hollowed out into scarecrows? Her visceral, verbally expressed hatred of men and then goes “lol she could be bi though.”

I never invade YOUR spaces to pull the “um akshually 🤓 she’s a lesbian” no, I stick to my spaces and I block or avoid people who ship her with men or say she likes men sexually or romantically in any way. It’s like people forget that the internet is a huge ass space and you have to actively curate your own experience. Not everything you come across is going to apply to you! That’s okay, just move on. Especially on a platform like tiktok where the algorithm hasn’t been the greatest as of late for the fyp, you’re gonna see shit you don’t like. Scroll past, block, hit not interested because when you comment to be annoying, tiktok doesn’t consider the content of your comment, they are seeing that you commented so they’ll think you like that sort of content and then your page is gonna be full of lesbian Alcina stans. Like please for the love of Mother Miranda, leave us alone because you’re constantly invading our spaces to try and tell us how “wrong” we are. Half the time you can’t even get the lore of the game right, it’s as if you didn’t bother to read any of the files around the castle or play the game with your eyes open at all.
