okay. trust me, i love women, and i love the idea of making my favs women lovers but the idea of laios being gay really appeals to me because of his background. this isn’t fueled by yaoi since i don’t even ship the only m/m relationship i bring up here, i just think it adds a nice layer to his disconnect with his own humanity

Certainly not canon Alastor. As far as I'm concerned, as a writer and artist, a character's sexuality is part of their character itself, no matter if it's explored or treated as another trivia about them, it's still part of their character and partly influences their actions.

By erasing his aroace identity you take away part of his character, a big part too. So you're only simping for the sexualised romanticised version of him the fandom has created, because in actuality Alastor would never act that way.

At this point just pick another character who is actually open to these things and leave the one spec of rep we have alone

So basically three of the worst men converge at Winterfell to face off basically fighting over Sansa but surprise Theon and Yara break Jon out of prison to rescue her. And yeah Euron’s just like oh I want the Stark girl now because I know my nephew wants her. Then Theon can get to kill Euron or Ramsay or Baelish. Lmao. In my opinion, I think the toxicity mainly starts with people forcing to everybody that every character in hsr is queer coded and all that stuff. I keep seeing all that posts and comments that this certain character is “implied” which is not true??? It makes me wonder if they even know what the word “implied” means, cuz it basically/indirectly means that it’s canon.

A random headcanon: hope does a lot of world traveling after the show and goes to lots of fun art museums!! General Opinion over said character: i really like a lot of what they tried to do with her when it came to her grief for her parents and how that made her especially protective of/worried about losing landon specifically, even though at times it did feel like the show came too much about that for my taste. i have some issues with the tvdu's no humanity mechanism honestly (it does not make sense. also it feels a little weird and ableist to imply that people who don't experience emotions or are experiencing them differently are less human. but i digress), but i think what they did with for hope's character in s4 and how it was triggered by landon's death but truly just showed how she'd been struggling for a long time and needed healing for more reasons than just that was interesting. even if the execution of her story didn't always land right for me, i appreciate what they were trying to do.

There are a lot of people who mock Taylor Swift because they don't like her music and she's a rich apolitical white woman so she's fair game to them and that is whatever. I don't like her music myself. Her fandom base is largely female, but she does not have the huge gay male backing big a female star usually has. That intrigued me because gay men love massive female pop stars.

However, there is a vocal section of men, straight and gay, that mock Taylor Swift. I learned it was because she isn't sexy to them. A lot of people who find her sexy are lesbians. She doesn't make sexually explicit degrading music which is usually what you need to be an uber popular woman in today's music market. So the female icons gay men of today flock to are all hot women showing their tits and ass.

once a post that got popular that said people need to leave lesbian women who are apart of the slash shipping industrial complex alone, because it doesn't mean attraction to these characters, it is just a dumb male centered hobby, and It compared it to how gay men love sexy starlets. It's why homophobic Nicki Minaj will always have a more loyal young gay following than Taylor Swift. Everyone on the post kept saying all lesbian shippers are actually bisexual. They couldn't fathom why women would be doing the woman hobby, identifying and engaging with male characters if they weren't sexually attracted to them.

Yet no one questioned the sexuality of gay men obsessed with the sexual appeal of female popstars. They can't just be talented, they have to be sexy. And so many gay dudes commented some version of "of course we wouldn't like her, she's flat, sexy as cardboard, etc misogynistic insults." So many gay men are mad when Billie Eilish wears baggy clothes and doesn't have her tits out. Why are you as a man invested a sexy woman if you're not attracted to her? Can it be you identified with these women growing up and still as a man you benefit on some level from the sexual exploitation of women in media. It can be a completely neutral and (or a negative thing) devoid of sexual attraction for you. The same thing with straight men, they idolize big strong masculine men in media or athletes, to the point of hero worship, collecting merch excessively, demanding that every male character be a muscular beast in the live action adaptations, posters on their walls, obsessive curating their online life about them. Get mad when even hot female characters take the limelight away from their male favorites. Are all these men bi or gay? You wouldn't think that.

So how about we apply this to lesbians? While tumblr is filled with openly faux lesbians (bi and straight up straight women dating men) there is a concerted effort to always question a woman's word, and believe everything a man says. Do we think lesbians raised in male dominated society are born inoculated against male worship/centeredness, even if it's not sexual. Straight men aren't. Do you believe lesbians are inherently born with a feminist mindset, and there aren't male worshiping lesbians out there. That there are certain hobbies that make a woman a lesbian, and some that disqualify her? There are some lesbians getting surgery to have a faux dick attached to her person, without ever wanting to ever be sexual with a real deal dick. it's clear that we are just as vulnerable to male hero worship as anyone born in this patriarchal society, and sometimes it manifests in the most womanly of ways, slash shipping.

I feel like something people need to know (especially on the tiktok side of fandoms) is that

putting a different queer identity onto a character with a pre established queer identity is still erasure of the previous queer identity

the statement "he could be bi" is thrown around a LOT on the eng hsr fandom (especially regarding blade, but aventurine too, dan heng does still get this treatment from the found family shippers too) on tiktok and it, really makes my blood boil because that's such a shitty argument (my post is mainly going to be about making canonical gay characters bisexual or lesbians but this can be used for making bi/pan characters monosexual or doing the flip flop for making lesbian characters bisexual or gay but lets go)

the statement "he could be bi" is so shoddy, because of the word "could," characters shouldn't have to look directly into the camera, and go "i am a homosexual" for a sexuality to be confirmed. A male character who shows exclusive attraction to men, should be enough to go "he is gay." Also censorship is a thing that would make coding extremely important. Like also what proof do you have of him being mlw? cmon? something that isn't fanon? where's him being ATTRACTED to women? oh that's right there is none!

also not to mention, a lot of the "oh he could be bi" crowd doesn't even CARE for bi representation, they just wanna ship a gay man with a woman, that's it. Also important to mention that 99% of this crowd will pretend to care about biphobia and then turn around and hc canonically bi characters gay/lesbian

tl;dr: respect canonical queer identities, there are thousands upon thousands of characters you can headcanon whatever you want, but these FEW characters are already confirmed, leave them alone
