every time i watch a video essay and the youtuber mispronounces a foreign word and they're like haha sorry i probably butchered that, i immediately click off. i don't trust someone who can't even fucking bother to play the google translate play aloud button to tell me shit about this topic.
#AND 99% of the time it's people whose first language is english#you know. language that half the world has to learn a whole new alphabet for. a language we memorize phonetic charts i school for#like dude. TRY

it would be such species euphoria to be able to learn how to read something like base 2 or base 10 fluently, im kind of tempted to learn,,
#im specifically thinking of these#and not something like base 64#as i imagine theyd be easier because they have less character than there are letters in the english alphabet#for example “a” in base 64 is “YQ==” and “aa” is “YWE=”#so its not just “a” repeated twice#however in base 2 “a” is “01100001” and “aa” is “01100001 01100001”#and in base 10 “a” is “97” and “aa” is “97 97”#which is just “a” repeated twice#as such youd just have to learn each letter#i like the vibes of base 64 much more however#i dont know by what process it is created though#and as such i dont know how hard or easy it would be to learn#ill have to sit on this#otherkin#alterhuman#polykin#aikin#nonhuman#other kin#machinekin#robotkin#mine#text

People piss me off when they want to learn a new language and they have to learn a different alphabet. “Oh there’s another alphabet 😭. Why do you need all these extra letter”
Like duh it’s hard your learning a whole new language that’s the point. Different languages need different letter because their pronounced differently
#little rant#it makes me mad sorry#Cyrillic alphabet my beloved you don’t deserve the hate#a Russian who learned English. that shit was hard. why you do’t got accent letter#see how it feels now

"my education is my highest priority" everything returns to vocaloid
#delete later#shitpost#vocaloid#?? idk i might keep it up. yes ik turning off rbs is a thing now technically but i always keep forgetting and also naaaah.#i might go edit proper tags in later just bc i dont this to show up in main pages but i needdddddd the organization on here#i made this a while back procrastinating on a linguistics reading and then never posted it#AND THE CIRCLE IS COMPLETE BC IM POSTING IT NOW WHILE PROCRASTINATING ON ANOTHER LINGUISTICS READING LMAOO#dudeee i gotta lock in. oh my god. its so bad up in here triple assault. i cant focus on SHIT. WHY DO I ALWAYS GET IDEAS WHEN IM BUSY AHGHH#this might be revealing a bit too much info but pls this is legit what happened LMAOO 😭🥴#we're starting ipa alphabet stuff now and im like 'hey i already know you...' from phoneme fuckery ive had to do for voca shitposts#knowing linguistics is cool cause u get to dissect what makes languages work and i thought that'd be genuinely helpful for things#like i plan to do more english/spanish translation work specifically so yuh. but also I KNOW internally in my heart...#despite trying to give the professional justifications I KNOW my stupid ass is secretly just absorbing all this knowledge for voca purposes#my brand of shitposting goes against the very origin of the word since 'shitposting' originally refers to very low effort low quality memes#so there's been a semantic shift in definition even outside of mine but i still think its really funny. i put a lot of genuine hard work#into making stupid little jokes to amuse primarily myself and maybe anyone else who finds it on the internet. so yea#no but genuinely though its unironically incredible how much shit i've learned direct or indirectly for vocaloid shitposting purposes#singing robot pendejadas

on one side: yay I don’t understand Korean I can just enjoy the pop vibes without knowing what it’s saying
on the other: I’m an incurable gremlin and I’m nosy I’m sure I’m missing so many cool books not being translated
#Learning English and Spanish was a mistake (/sarcasm)#Incredibly useful. But aiiiii#(I was looking up the alphabet today and realised what I was doing halfway through writing the consonants in my notebook)#Pers#Also it’s Baekhyun’s latest album. The fact that I can recognise his voice in songs#🤡

i love technology. google translate isnt the best but when u need to talk to someone that only speaks a language u don't know it's very useful.
#delivery guy dropped off our new fridge and i had questions bc we were supposed to get a dishwasher too but there were issues with it so we#gotta get a different one#but we just stood in the driveway typing out a conversation and having the translator app convey the more difficult things we could with#what little knowledge of each other's languages that we had#i also used it a few years ago to talk to this lady who needed directions but only knew portuguese and when i whipped out google translate#to help my dad was like holy shit why didn't i think of doing that before#it's also a personal failing that i dont know spanish i started learning in high school but wasnt that interested because i already knew#another language beside english at that point from self study and i was super self conscious about not being able to pronounce certain#sounds to make words sound correct but i learned after hs that it's because my tongue is literally tied#and it's literally the worst tongue tie multiple doctors have ever seen but im also too broke to get the minor surgery to fix it#its also the failure of my grandpa though for refusing to learn spanish from his parents my dad and his siblings know some spanish but its#all cursing and how to insult people and how to count to 10#which is also most of the spanish i know#i need to start studying languages again i was conversational in swedish but ive let it slip because the only other person i know that also#spoke it stopped talking to me and i still know enough korean to get by because ive been immersed in kpop for so many years but i forgot the#alphabet bc i haven't seriously studied korean since i was 17#i only got to use that korean once and i didn't even get to speak it bc i heard an incredibly juicy but personal conversation between this#girl her sisters her grandmother and her mom about her cheating ex bf and i know granny knew i understood she saw me cover a laugh when she#called the dude a small dick perverted player#she smiled at me and i smiled back when the others weren't paying attention#she was also watching a drama on her phone i can't remember which one it was now bc its been almost 3 years atp

I'm finding out that some of my lovely audience have never encountered simple Chinese characters before and that really flips my world upside down.
I'm so, so happy that there are people who don't know much about East Asia who interact with my blog. Thank you!
#I'm saying 'audience' because saying 'interactors' felt a bit weird#I had special tutoring for Chinese characters ever since I was little#I learnt simple Chinese characters and how they worked before I learnt the English alphabet#technically English is the third writing system I had learned#but that's low key a very normal experience to many Koreans#but with each passing year I think the Chinese knowledge drilling is fading out in favour for English language drilling I think#hagwon culture still driving strong! xd

korean is probably the most fun language i have ever tried to learn the way that i still haven't given up on it and i still study every day says a lot 😭
#i feel like english was too easy for me solely bc#i basically grew up watching movies in english and also listening#to songs in english and i mean it's a great skill to have nowadays#don't get me wrong#but i picked up on it pretty quickly and it wasn't exactly a challenge#french was a lot for me#spanish was okay since i understand most of it#or when i tried to learn nowegian bc of skam for a short period of time 💀#but i suppose learning a new alphabet and slowing understanding#what songs in korean mean like expressions and etc is very fun#i do love languages tho and learning the history behind them#but truly korean is the most interesting one i've learned so far#tris.txt

Life is a constant game of shuffling the order of languages I want to learn
#mine#putting ASL on the back burner to prioritize Hebrew#and I have some Arabic basics (the alphabet basically) that I need to develop#the ultimate goal is to know ASL + UN languages + hebrew#maybe it’ll take a lifetime but I’m ok w that lol#(I have English and Spanish; Arabic is next for UN languages)#then Russian which I did used to know some very basics in#but I’ll be happy if I get asl and Hebrew learned#I’ll know four languages at that point which is more than enough#but I plan to be studying for the rest of my life

Konoha's name in braille
Japanese braille (tenji): このは あきのり
English braille: Konoha Akinori
Korean braille (jeomja): 코노하 아키노리
This is so random. I really need to increase my skill range. By the way, fun fact, Japanese braille has spaces unlike Japanese. And this is kana braille because kanji braille is way too complicated for me.
Unicode versions in case anyone's interested (warning, it looks a little misleading: dots on the right look like they're on the left):
このは あきのり ⠪⠎⠥ ⠁⠣⠎⠓
Konoha Akinori ⠠⠅⠕⠝⠕⠓⠁⠀⠠⠁⠅⠔⠕⠗⠊
코노하 아키노리 ⠋⠥⠉⠥⠚ ⠣⠋⠕⠉⠥⠂⠕
#katrina posts#konoha akinori#braille#i have very normal interests thank you very much#konohafestivalmonth#also just the basic part of kana braille is actually really easy#like really really easy#can memorize in 5 minutes as long as you know the layout of the alphabet#i haven't looked up datuken and stuff yet (because there are non in Konoha's name) but maybe i'll just go and learn the entire thing#why not#also there's a bunch of contraction rules in english braille that i don't know#and it's possible that the 'in' contraction wouldn't work because the pronounciation is “a-ki-no-ri”#but. probably not. hopefully not.#the Korean braille i am totally confident in#maybe i shouldn't be though because i misspelled 'ㄴ' as 'ㅌ' (in braille) TWICE#they aren't even similar looking i just mindlessly clicked the braille that looks like the original character#i feel kinda bad tagging this with the festival month tag but it's probably fine. there's only like 3 posts with the tag on tumblr and one'#i wish i could. do useful things with braille.#i don't personally know anyone who needs braille though#if i did i would translate all sorts of stuff for them (if they want me to) and only charge the printing fee (roughly 10 cents per page)#anyways enough rambling i love Konoha#konoha

Throwback to that time in third year of middle school when I "stole" a russian dictonary from the school library and taught myself the cyrillic alphabet just for fun.
So now I can read cyrillic but not translate the words.
Freaking out russian/ukrainian players online is funny af, but also the face my music teacher did after I read out loud the sign above the russian embassy in Geneva. Good times.
And I still have that dictionary.
#nfr#and in order to learn it fluently i used to write in english with it#so now im fluent in writing in english with the cyillic alphabet#which is a nonsense skill. but useful when i need to write something on the calendar in the kitchen#and don't want my mother to read it#too bad my father and brother know it too but about that i confide in my bad handwriting#BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY read the scarf around josh's neck and that was UUUH#cool
