"waow how do people even read russian cursive" <- person who never learned cursive in their native language
#if cursive were actually illegible people wouldn't use it... you guys just never learned cursive lmao#tho if you *want* to make cursive look illegible it's quite easy#<- which is how i fucked w my high school english teacher who forced me to write in cursive#but most people are not like me and generally try to write in a way that is legible#also 'doctor's handwriting' is often shorthand which is literally another alphabet#that is legible if you know said alphabet and not legible if you don't#learning to read cursive (inc russian cursive) is imminently feasible. do not let the tumblr posts convince you otherwise

"my education is my highest priority" everything returns to vocaloid
#delete later#shitpost#vocaloid#?? idk i might keep it up. yes ik turning off rbs is a thing now technically but i always keep forgetting and also naaaah.#i might go edit proper tags in later just bc i dont this to show up in main pages but i needdddddd the organization on here#i made this a while back procrastinating on a linguistics reading and then never posted it#AND THE CIRCLE IS COMPLETE BC IM POSTING IT NOW WHILE PROCRASTINATING ON ANOTHER LINGUISTICS READING LMAOO#dudeee i gotta lock in. oh my god. its so bad up in here triple assault. i cant focus on SHIT. WHY DO I ALWAYS GET IDEAS WHEN IM BUSY AHGHH#this might be revealing a bit too much info but pls this is legit what happened LMAOO 😭🥴#we're starting ipa alphabet stuff now and im like 'hey i already know you...' from phoneme fuckery ive had to do for voca shitposts#knowing linguistics is cool cause u get to dissect what makes languages work and i thought that'd be genuinely helpful for things#like i plan to do more english/spanish translation work specifically so yuh. but also I KNOW internally in my heart...#despite trying to give the professional justifications I KNOW my stupid ass is secretly just absorbing all this knowledge for voca purposes#my brand of shitposting goes against the very origin of the word since 'shitposting' originally refers to very low effort low quality memes#so there's been a semantic shift in definition even outside of mine but i still think its really funny. i put a lot of genuine hard work#into making stupid little jokes to amuse primarily myself and maybe anyone else who finds it on the internet. so yea#no but genuinely though its unironically incredible how much shit i've learned direct or indirectly for vocaloid shitposting purposes

korean is probably the most fun language i have ever tried to learn the way that i still haven't given up on it and i still study every day says a lot 😭
#i feel like english was too easy for me solely bc#i basically grew up watching movies in english and also listening#to songs in english and i mean it's a great skill to have nowadays#don't get me wrong#but i picked up on it pretty quickly and it wasn't exactly a challenge#french was a lot for me#spanish was okay since i understand most of it#or when i tried to learn nowegian bc of skam for a short period of time 💀#but i suppose learning a new alphabet and slowing understanding#what songs in korean mean like expressions and etc is very fun#i do love languages tho and learning the history behind them#but truly korean is the most interesting one i've learned so far#tris.txt

Throwback to that time in third year of middle school when I "stole" a russian dictonary from the school library and taught myself the cyrillic alphabet just for fun.
So now I can read cyrillic but not translate the words.
Freaking out russian/ukrainian players online is funny af, but also the face my music teacher did after I read out loud the sign above the russian embassy in Geneva. Good times.
And I still have that dictionary.
#nfr#and in order to learn it fluently i used to write in english with it#so now im fluent in writing in english with the cyillic alphabet#which is a nonsense skill. but useful when i need to write something on the calendar in the kitchen#and don't want my mother to read it#too bad my father and brother know it too but about that i confide in my bad handwriting#BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY read the scarf around josh's neck and that was UUUH#cool

honestly as someone who never really got into lotr but independently also came up with the idea that the most sensible way to handwave everyone in a fictional setting speaking english & using terms that would have no reason to have originated in that setting is to just pretend its all a translation/localization of whatever language theyre actually speaking, it was such a relief to learn that tolkien also did that. like oh ok so im not crazy for wanting to do it that way. or like, maybe i am, but at least in the same way that a wildly successful fantasy author was, so i think im good
#like it just makes sense!! yeah you COULD go through & nitpick english so you take out all the loanwords & words with religious origin etc#anything that wouldnt make sense in the setting youre writing for. words relating to places that dont exist there. you COULD do that#(& iirc there are some authors that HAVE done things like that which is incredible i love that)#but its so much easier to just be like. well these are not the actual exact words they were saying. they were not speaking english#bc why would they be?? why would this fantasy world have english At All. even if u call it by a different name. u know??#why would they come up with the same sounds and the same alphabet and the same grammar and everything#it just makes more sense for it to not actually BE english to begin with!!!#i would love to eventually make up all the conlangs in my various settings but unfortunately i do not have the time & energy for that rn#so im just using real languages as stand-ins. which does mean i will either need to learn them or get someone to translate for me lmAO#but im fine with that. also learning more languages would make it easier to make a conlang anyway bc u have more knowledge of#language structures besides english & u can use that to add more variety..... maybe someday ill get to the point where i can do that#its always been something that interested me tbh i used to make up fake alphabets all the time but never really got much farther#they werent all exact 1:1 w a-z either like some combinations would have their own character or id omit some#god okay anyway i gotta go to work#oopsie i made the wrong word italic. i fixed it tho

🦉Positivity owl reporting for duty! This was sent by a friend who wants you to smile as much as your posts make them smile. Please list five things that make you unique, four things you are super passionate about and why, OR three of your favorite memories. Feel free to send the owl to those who you feel deserve to smile🦉
User williamkisser who turned you into an owl?? 😦
Thank you for the smile, I hope you get to smile for many days to come yourself!
I had to muster up my remaining brain power to think of things to say so upon long reflection- here are some unusual things I could think of:
- grew up in a family of musicians but can’t play any instruments 👍
- I talk in my sleep and have a history of sleepwalking. I’ve also typed messages while sleeping which has led to embarrassing situations 😍 I think all this may be linked to the fact that I dream a lot. Actually I move a lot in my sleep, waking up on the floor or with my feet on my pillow and head where the feet should be has happened in the past (I usually sleep in a one person bed so I don’t know how)
- I’m the pickiest eater ever known to man I don’t even know how I’m still standing
- I can recite the alphabet backwards in Fr*nch (absolutely useless skill)
- Always had a knack for knights and sword fighters growing up so I took on fencing and horse riding that I stopped solely because I was scared of my teammates and have no sense of competition (never going to be a knight at this rate)
My passions:
- José
- José
- Bugs and everything related to the ocean (also cats)(actually I really like all animals because I find them fascinating and I like taking care of them)
- Fancy rocks because I like what they look like and the textures so I collect them in organised boxes.
#I don’t think I need to explain some of my passions#I can probably recite the alphabet backwards in English but I was trained to recite it in French in less than 5 seconds#see the time I took to learn this I could’ve learned an instrument#I hope the owl life is good#should’ve specified that I have a masters degree in yapology

Konoha's name in braille
Japanese braille (tenji): このは あきのり
English braille: Konoha Akinori
Korean braille (jeomja): 코노하 아키노리
This is so random. I really need to increase my skill range. By the way, fun fact, Japanese braille has spaces unlike Japanese. And this is kana braille because kanji braille is way too complicated for me.
Unicode versions in case anyone's interested (warning, it looks a little misleading: dots on the right look like they're on the left):
このは あきのり ⠪⠎⠥ ⠁⠣⠎⠓
Konoha Akinori ⠠⠅⠕⠝⠕⠓⠁⠀⠠⠁⠅⠔⠕⠗⠊
코노하 아키노리 ⠋⠥⠉⠥⠚ ⠣⠋⠕⠉⠥⠂⠕
#katrina posts#konoha akinori#braille#i have very normal interests thank you very much#konohafestivalmonth#also just the basic part of kana braille is actually really easy#like really really easy#can memorize in 5 minutes as long as you know the layout of the alphabet#i haven't looked up datuken and stuff yet (because there are non in Konoha's name) but maybe i'll just go and learn the entire thing#why not#also there's a bunch of contraction rules in english braille that i don't know#and it's possible that the 'in' contraction wouldn't work because the pronounciation is “a-ki-no-ri”#but. probably not. hopefully not.#the Korean braille i am totally confident in#maybe i shouldn't be though because i misspelled 'ㄴ' as 'ㅌ' (in braille) TWICE#they aren't even similar looking i just mindlessly clicked the braille that looks like the original character#i feel kinda bad tagging this with the festival month tag but it's probably fine. there's only like 3 posts with the tag on tumblr and one'#i wish i could. do useful things with braille.#i don't personally know anyone who needs braille though#if i did i would translate all sorts of stuff for them (if they want me to) and only charge the printing fee (roughly 10 cents per page)#anyways enough rambling i love Konoha#konoha

Learning katakana is so hard for no reason because it sounds just like the english word but you don't realize until you know what it means. Like if I said "sutukesu" would you automatically realize what it is?? No but when you know it means suitcase it's really fucking obvious isn't it
And "kureyon" means crayon. It's so simple. I learnt it a few months ago and at the time it took like 5 minutes of struggling until my tutor said it (I have to read it out and then translate it, she didn't say it before). I always go one syllable at a time but with katakana it's so much simpler when the words are fast. It was literally:
"ku-re-yo-n???"
".....kureyon"
"OH CRAYON??"
I was sounding it out like I'd never heard a word in my life. And you know the second you figure it out you will feel stupid. (It literally sounds just like crayon when it's said fast enough I'm still mad I didn't get it)
I learnt "macudonarudo" today and I was struggling. It's fucking McDonald's.
Other simple words that I was clever enough to actually figure out without being a moron for 10 minutes are "kare" (curry) "baiorin" (violin) and "pa-ti" (party)
#its hard#but not in the way you think#people say its hard because its a different alphabet#but if anything that makes it easier#its just hard when it sounds like english#this is probably me being dumb#japanese#learning japanese#japanese language#japan#katakana#if you say anything racist on this i will block you

havin a little acknowledge-your-own-bias moment as I realize that oh yeah, of course, the reason Unown is considered mysterious runes you have to decipher and not just. a fairly hard to read font is bc the place that came up with Unown doesn't use those letters
never really thought about that, back when I was a dumb stupid kid I just learned the letters p easily bc they're the letters I've already been using and just thought "oh yeah it's not that hard so that my fellow dumb stupid kids have a chance at figuring this out" and granted it's probably also that but I'm guessing it'd look a lot weirder and harder to figure out and more foreign if the letters are, in fact, literally foreign
#that being said I don't know how widespread knowledge of the latin alphabet is among japanese elementary school kids in 1999#like I'd guess they probably learn english in school at *some* point but idk when that'd start
