the ribbon seals most defining feature, their stripes, take 4 years to develop!
here is a short timeline of their development 🦭
adorable white coat ribbon seal pups. this baby fur is called lanugo.
after around 1 month pups will start shedding their baby fur to reveal a grey and silver coat
young seals with their grey and silver coat
then, the juvenile seals with start to develop their stripes over the next 3 years. they grow stronger with each moult, females can reach sexual maturity before they have fully developed stripes. this mothers stripes aren’t fully there yet.
once they’re 4 years old a ribbon seals stripes will have fully developed.
male and female are easy to tell apart by their coat colour, the males will have bold black and white stripes
whereas the females have more brown/beige/silver stripes

Warrior and Mother
I wanted to sketch something to warm up back into traditional and, going with the Vulcan women warriors mood, and thinking of those athletes that are competing in the Olympics little after giving birth or while still breastfeeding, this came into existence.
More about Vulcan headcanons below the cut ✨
I'm borrowing @ex--astris--scientia idea that I love that Vulcans wear their babies in slings below their chest placing their heads where the Vulcan heart is so they can hear their heartbeats 💜
Also; Vulcan babies are born naturally hairy, with quite long, fine and soft hair like the human lanugo but more abundant, from the shoulders down the forearms and back, the lower part of the happy trail of the tum tum and legs. Some time later they lose the baby hair and it doesn't grow back again till puberty.
When taking the new pictures the light made some interesting highlights in the sketch ✨
More art about Vulcan lore and headcanons:

Coping tonight so have some pokemon au sketches, because I fucking adore pokemon.
thoughts under the cut:
Ford in this universe is a professor who studies anomalous Pokemon. He manages to catch a Slither Wing, initially to study it, but he ends up fucking Adoring the thing. He names it Lanugo (which is latin for fluff) (also do you know Slither Wing is 10 feet tall??? Big boy)
He also has a Reuniclus as his partner pokemon. He won it in a county science fair when he was 13.
Fiddleford is the type to keep a Pokemon as a pet. He only has a Magnemite, which he adopted early in college. It helps him move around weightier parts.
Magnemite ends up staying with Fiddleford even as he starts deteriorating. It helps Fidds by reminding him stuff like when to eat.
other thoughts not drawn here:
Stanley manages to keep his scraggly Meowth from his childhood, throughout the years. He taught her to pickpocket tourists. She curls up on his lap when he's watching tv.
Dipper and Mabel end up finding their starters when they go to visit grunkle Stan. Dipper ends up with Snivy, Mabel with a Tepig.
Bill is still in this AU and still causes problems.
#sketch#gravity falls#stanford pines#fiddleford mcgucket#pokemon#pokemon au#slither wing#magnemite#this is generally a little bit kinder of an au because yayyy pokemon :D#except for Bill he's equally as fucked as canon#I also have no idea for names for the rest of the pokemon whoops

I'm so sick of pro anas glorifying anorexia by saying how "wonderful" and "lovely" it is to feel empty. This feeling does not last.. there might be a very short "honeymoon phase" with your restrictive ED where you think you're being "strong" and "pure" by starving when you first start losing weight, but it ends.. QUICK. I spent 13 years feeling what they described should make me feel "pure" and "lovely" and I HATED EVERY MOMENT. I was miserable, I developed organ damage, osteopenia, lost a good portion of my hair, my joints and ligaments are destroyed, my face was covered in lanugo, my gums recessed so bad my skull was exposed- clearly that would be painful, and it was- it got so bad I needed expensive, not covered by insurance surgery, which was the beginning of my recovery. Starving is never worth it. Now that I'm in recovery sure I gained weight, but I also gained satiety from food every day multiple times a day (which I can confirm feels better than starving), holidays don't scare me so much anymore, I eat more and exercise less than I have in 13 years and life is so much better. Weight is the least of what I've gained in recovery- I've gained the ability to eat at restaurants, not always know the calories of what I'm eating, a sense of humor (now that I'm not constantly angry/irritable that I feel like shit 24/7), a better relationship with my husband, and all the little joys that food, especially holidays surrounding food, can bring to our lives. If you reach your "ugw" and get diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, it is not an accomplishment. It is a sickness that will destroy your family, other relationships, body, and mind. Recovery or death are the only ways out of anorexia, and as I've recently learned through trial and error, I do not, in fact, want to die. I want to live- to wake up next to the love of my life and my cats, to have at least 3 meals a day so I'm never running on empty; it's amazing. Recovery is worth it, always- anorexia never is. So stop promoting it as some sort of badge of honor; it's not. Recover while you can, because 1/5 of anorexics die- either by starvation or suicide. I've been closer than anyone ever should be to dying of both. Being thin is not the most important thing in life, it really doesn't matter as much as the sickness in your mind convinces you it does. So get better, before your body and mind are so ravaged by your ED that there's no way out anymore.

everyone loves harp seal babies but the problem with everyone loving harp seal Babies is no one wants to talk about harp seal adults even though they're cute too
look at them!!!! They're mini cows!!
The striking black pattern isn't there after shedding their baby lanugo coat it takes a few years to come in. As juveniles they have cute little spots
you can see the adult pattern developing on the last one
young mommies who's adult coats aren't even developed yet
okay that's all appreciate baby harp seals but adults too please they're beautiful and Roumd
