Language Update
Cantonese
Had my first Cantonese lesson on italki today! I am at A0 for Cantonese but I think I felt pretty good about the first lesson. My tutor was a little bit disorganized at first but eventually found their rhythm and I felt like I learned a lot. They were super cognizant of my reasons for learning Cantonese and gave me excellent, relevant examples. They also provided me with excellent resources. After just this one session, I am starting to get the hang of basic sentence structure for declaratives and interrogatives. They let me know my tones are pretty accurate which is great because I feel like I am a little tone-deaf and it's a big concern of mine. I'm hoping tutoring will give me more structure and intensify my studying.

Persian
These last few weeks have been a little bit slow. Still doing the On/Off method. It is working to alleviate the stress of feeling like I'm not doing enough. I'm inconsistently going through the motions, but don't feel like I'm absorbing or progressing. I do feel that some things come a little bit more naturally to me like reading and thinking in Persian.
French
Currently reading Les Impatientes by Djaili Amadou Amal after being tempted to join a francophone reading book club in my area. I missed their meeting in May and this is the book from that meeting. Jury's still out on whether I will join the bookclub because of my rampant imposter syndrome and self-diagnosed performance/cultural anxiety as a first generation francophone in a non-francophone country.
I still keep up with writing in French by dedicating at least one entry per day in my journal.
Spanish
I live and breathe this language every day, but am trying to increase my reading (still, *sigh*). Like French, I dedicate at least 1 day for writing.
Portuguese
I stopped studying Portuguese to make room for Cantonese, but am highly delusional and have been thinking of sneaking in some Portuguese to my already scattered and inconsistent routine.
Overall, though, my progress has been super super slow/stagnant. I really have not been focused or consistent with any of my languages (other than obligatory Spanish). These last few weeks have been blunder after blunder and very stressful. Even just today, I had a dreaded phone call with some parents at work today. I had to stand my ground and not let them bully me into giving into their *demands*. I already have given so much because I notice how much they are concerned and, clinically, I also notice the concern (albeit, not as intensely as they do from a clinical POV). I tried my best to explain and answer questions but after a while just ended up getting sucked into a vicious circle of a conversation about test scores with them who were hearing me but absolutely not fucking listening, I sort of got curt, interrupted them, and repeated my point kind of cruelly. And our mediator had to step in lol.
But, even with the stress in my professional life, I find a way to squeeze in even just a crumb of language learning in my day. If I wait for everything to blow over, I would be waiting forever. This is teaching me to let go of perfectionism and letting things happen as they happen.

Language learning update:
It's been a month since I've set the goal to get better in mandarin; however, I only started a few weeks ago. I'm still proud of myself for even getting out of the slump in the first place!
So far I have....
☻ Been regularly watching TV shows in mandarin (The new cdrama The Double on netflix, and the show Happy Chinese on youtube)
☻ Learned lots of new vocab and refreshed on old ones in my mandarin textbooks
☻ Completing Duolingo
☻ Listening to music
As for my progress, it's going slower than I would like, but still getting better. I haven't done much to practice speaking, and I can't write all the characters from memory. However, I can read more, and it is super fun to pick up on words and phrases characters say in TV shows.
So to improve I want to
practice speaking
play games
That's all!

In modern Japanese, camera is just called 'camera' = カメラ - the same as English, it is a borrowed word.
But Sukuna is old af. He calls it 写真機 (shashinki) - literally 'photography device' - an outdated word from Meiji period I don't think anybody uses anymore.
Aw, A++ writing, my inner linguist nerd is purring

japanese update + productivity challenge
italki
had my first Japanese conversation lesson on italki in over a month today! missed talking to my teacher and it was fun as always. we bonded over k-pop which was very sweet and gave me a big boost of serotonin for the day lolol!
we were talking about music and she asked which genres i listen to. as soon as i said kpop she lit up and i asked
「先生もK-popが好きですか?」
「好きじゃない、大好きです!!!」
ended up booking another lesson for next week to continue our fangirling shenanigans! 楽しみ〜
she also said that she could tell i've been studying since the last time we spoke. which honestly surprised me a bit because i haven't been keeping up with my studying as much as i would've liked to.
it was really nice to hear tho and gave me more motivation to keep going <3
wanikani
i managed to get to under 300 reviews by the end of august like i was planning to! i was at ~280 reviews today i think and i managed to get it down to 188 after today's review! (for now lol, tomorrow we're back at 200+)
irodori
havent been able to keep up with irodori because of work + thesis writing, but im hoping to find a way to fit into my schedule somehow, even if its just 10min bit every other day or something
100 days of productivity ?
with everything i've got going on at uni and my language goals im thinking of trying the 100 days of productivity challenge. however, i'll probably end up doing delayed posts if anything (since my little experiment of keeping track of my daily japanese tasks on here failed). im still trying to figure out how to approach it for now. just wanted to mention on here for accountability purposes 😩

This is part TWO of chapter Four! Please read part one first. Or start from the beginning of the sequel here, or the very beginning here!
trigger tags: comic typical violence, minor character death, violent death (off screen), child character in peril/ verbal abuse, ableist language, obsessive behavior
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I worked so hard over the last two months to get this out before November. Please let me know what you think, lots of time and effort goes into these pages.
Anyways, I'll be taking a month off of drawing my comic to prevent burnout before I start on the next chapter. I know I normally only take two weeks off, but to meet the deadline I set for this chapter I worked harder and longer than I should have. So I need a little time to chill. I'm sure you understand! That means new chapter should come out sometime early next year.
enjoy the cliff hanger in the meantime!
previous: chapter 4 part one
Next: tbd
Start from the beginning of everything Here!
Start from beginning of sequel here!

unfortunate news everyone. After further reviewing halfmoon script, I can confirm that D shares a symbol with T, not V.
Several examples have cropped up of T being in place of where D should be, and looking back on the original deciphering of halfmoon, I found the source of the error: I based a lot of halfmoon's cipher off a string of uppercase bold script text, and in that script, D and V share the same symbol.
what does this all mean?
The "genterless" bathroom actually does say "genderless". Sadly.

I keep seeing people on Beau Post say that fluffy = happy and. no. it very much does not. so here's a visual reference for anyone curious.
No puff (neutral)
Tumblr media
Smallpuff (comfy) - note the relaxed body language and lowered wings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bigpuff (defensive) - note the tension in her body (tense wings, head pulled toward the body). Most pigeons will do this around the nest when they see a threat (in this case it was a chicken who wasn't anywhere near her and didn't even try anything, but Beau is a very defensive nester) and it usually is followed by a nasty wing slap and/or a bite.
Tumblr media
You will also see pigeons stretch their necks out and flatten all their feathers when scared and ready to run, but nesting birds will usually pick fight over flight.

You are SO right that is high praise indeed! I'm honored! =D So here. Have a donut! 🍩🍩🍩 As for Luci, let us turn to the world's favorite 700k+ words old man fanfiction that is The Bible (tm) as according to their lore, it's been canonically stated that angels are genderless for they are beings made of the Pure Holy Spirit and- Holy SHIT! What do you know??? Our dear depressed duck dad was an angel himself and in some depictions Lilith is infertile as was her punishment for her freedom! The more you know! -Bubbly💙

not only langblr music resources
people irl often ask me where the heck i find the music i listen to, so i figured i might as well make a handy resource masterpost!
Radio Garden: Listen to radio stations all over the world. You can save your favourite stations, explore radio playlists, and search for stations in specific countries or cities. Love this one.
You can download the app (android and apple) or listen via your preferred browser.
Radiooooo: Lets you choose a country, a decade, and a 'genre' (slow, fast, or weird) to listen to.
You can download the app (android and apple) or listen via your preferred browser.
Every Noise At Once: Sounds overwhelming - and tbh it can be. For this reason I personally prefer to look at 'Genres by Country', although there are many other interesting playlists to look at, such as 'We Built This City On' or 'The Sounds of Places'. You can find more if you scroll all the way to the bottom.
Unfortunately, due to the layoff of the creator of this site, some features are not available anymore.
This website is entirely based on Spotify.
Charts: Charts can be tricky if you're looking for music in a specific language due to the insufferable dominance of music in english in uh a lot of countries. It is nevertheless worth checking them out. Spotify charts or Top 40 Charts are your places to go.
Tunefind: Heard a song in a film or tv show that you enjoy but can't find it in the credits? This is the website for you! I use it when shazam fails me or when I'm at the cinema and can't use it or w/e. The songs sometimes come with a description of the corresponding scene for easy checking. Just very handy to have on hand.
Local events: Check for concerts etc. in your area. I know this is not an option for everyone for a bunch of reasons, but if it is for you, visiting local concerts can be a gold mine. I got like ten whole new songs in spanish and one in rapanui from one event I went to (it was like a culture fest with singing, dancing, and poetry). Also listening to live music just connects you differently to the art imo.
Friends & Acquaintances: Last but not least; sometimes my nosiness beats my social anxiety and I simply ask people what they like to listen to. If I'm being extra confident, I ask if they listen to music in languages other than english. Go forth and ask people about their music, go go go!!
Spotify recs:
LindsayDoesLanguages. Individual language playlists + more
Shameless self promo - my own account with individual language playlists. Also on YouTube !
700+ Languages. A playlist by Matthew Bofenkamp that contains one (1) song per language, and as it says on the tin, Matthew has so far collected songs in over 700 languages. Might be a good starting point for more music in your language of interest! Accompanying g0ogle spreadsheet with youtube links here.
