WARDI WRITTEN LANGUAGE (BASICS).
Couya's full name (properly 'Haidamane Couya') written formally and with common handwriting conventions.
The Wardi written language derives from earlier proto-language systems consisting exclusively of logograms without direct phonetic meaning or grammatical structure. These symbols gradually became simplified and abstracted to the point of many having little intrinsic clarity, and combined to communicate abstract concepts.
The development of a full written language did not occur independently (as very few written languages do), and its phonetic elements (namely its use of syllabograms) were largely derived the 'ancient' Burri writing system, gradually synthesized with native writing conventions, and in the contemporary forms a wholly distinct system. The language's Relatively universalized form is a very recent phenomena, developing within the past two centuries with the region's conquering/unification into a single entity.
The contemporary written language is a mixture of logograms and syllabograms. It is read from right to left and arranged in horizontal columns. The most formal variant of this system contains each character within a square outline, usually separated by a small space. This outline confers little phonetic or symbolic information beyond making distinction between syllables exceptionally clear, and can be (and often is) omitted in handwriting. The separation of words is conveyed through a narrow rectangle or line in formal contexts, and again often omitted in handwriting (instead indicated instead by a wider blank space).
The pure logograms that have been retained in this writing system tend to be those of very common words or specific concepts (most logogram characters for types of livestock, key crops, water, major body parts, etc are widely recognized and in common use). There has not yet been any attempts to fully 'formalize' the language and omit potentially unnecessary logograms, and they remain frequently used as shorthand while conveying the same semantic information.
Many of the syllabogram characters are directly derived from logograms that depicted monosyllabic words. For example, the spoken word 'gan' means 'cow', and the character for the syllable 'gan' is identical to the common logogram for 'cow'.
The name Gantoche (literally "cow-eye") could be written either fully with syllabograms as:
or through logograms as:
Both ultimately communicate the same meaning, but the former clarifies pronunciation (the words gan and atoche are contracted, it's gantoche and not gan-atoche).
It is a relatively easy written language to learn, as the pure syllabogram characters indicate their own pronunciation with little ambiguity and often have consistency to their construction (ie the character for the syllable 'man' contains most of the same elements as that for the syllable 'wan'- the dot placement in particular has indication of the vowel sounds).
The inclusion of logograms in general and many of the syllabic characters being directly imported From logograms complicates matters. These characters lack visual consistency, and can be confusing to the large swath of the public who know common logograms but not the full written language itself. Ie: the word 'ungande' meaning 'liver' will be composed of logogram-derived syllable characters for 'un' (which alone means 'hand') and 'gan' (which alone means 'cow'). Someone who is only semi-literate in common logograms may be confused at the meaning, especially since these same exact same characters may be used elsewhere on their own to indicate 'hand' or 'cow'.
One major exception to this tendency is that current religious doctrine requires established logogram characters describing God to be used in place of syllabic characters. The word for god is 'Od', and has its own unique character (as do each of the Faces, the capital F 'Face', and Its deified pronoun). The syllable 'od' [oʊd] is very common in the Wardi language, and a wholly separate character is used for the phonetic sound when it is not a reference to the deity (ie 'lion' (odo [oʊdoʊ]) does not contain the same character for God in spite of its first syllable having the exact same pronunciation). Names are a bit of a gray area (ie: the name 'Odabi' is very common and carries the meaning of 'gift/blessing from God'). Religious leadership is currently experiencing a mild schism on whether the written character for God is separated due to being wholly sacrosanct (and thus inappropriate to include in the written form of a personal name) or as more of a functional delineation of the sacred and mundane.
#Not 100% sure I'm using the ipa phonetic alphabet correctly but. I tried. Also typoed 'left to right' for direction for a hot minute there#Definitely chose a bit of a pain in the ass language system since there's going to be like a couple hundred possible characters (not#counting logograms) but could be worse. Also it has less total consonant sounds than english does like no V or Z and I don't#Think I've had anything with θ ð ʃ or ʒ. It does have the 'ts' sound as in 'tsetse' which I don;t think exists in english and#there's also some dental clicks. But the latter is mostly used as a filler sound or to emphasize certain words and doesn't convey#any linguistic information beyond that#I don't really intend to make this fully fleshed out I just want to be able to depict writing and have it actually mean something#Also mostly unrelated but I just found out I've been fucking up when I've referred to 'rolled Rs' in the Highlands/North Wardi dialects#The sound is a alveolar tap in most words rather than an alveolar trill (which is what 'rolled Rs' generally implies I think???)#Like I had been PRONOUNCING it all correctly at least but referring to it wrong. Brakul's name has an alveolar tap on the R#As do most of the R sounds with some exceptions#The only alveolar trill sounds in these languages typically occur with adjacent syllables that end and start with an R. Like the#name 'Korrigh' would have an alveolar trill

Me, wondering: Why do I always get a weird feeling when I'm reading "Alver" instead of "Alberu"? It's not like I care about the specific translation all that much, or have a specific association with the name "Alver" or... anything... ... Wait a minute – "Alver"... "Alvin"... chimpunks... squirrels... ... ... Me: ...No wait that pun doesn't even work that well in English since flying squirrels and chipmunks are different words in this language- My brain: DO THE MEME ANYWAY
(Based on this old poster)
#tcf#trash of the count's family#lcf#lout of count's family#meme#tcf meme#humor#tcf humor#alberu crossman#alver crossman#this idea was holding me hostage and wouldn't let go#i dont know if i should love or hate my brain sometimes#so much work for a meme just because chipmunk and squirrel are the same word in my language#hopefully someone out there finds this at least a little bit as funny as i do

It feels extremely silly that only today did I realize that pantry and panadería are slightly similar-sounding for a reason >_>
(The English word pantry is one of the many, many common modern English words derived from Anglo-French: in this case, panetrie, from Old French paneterie, "bread room" ... Spanish panadería also has a complex etymology, but all are related to Latin panis, "bread.")
#anghraine babbles#deep blogging#linguistic stuff#saw a post that was very aggressively going on about how english is GERMANIC (true) and has germanic words in it too!!! (duh)#and the whole discussion ended up arguing that the existence of common germanic words means the many common latinate ones don't count#as 'true english' or whatever and also all languages have borrowings on the level of french-derived vocab in english (not true!)#and it's only lexical and the english grammar is still fundamentally what it was (not true at all actually though not mainly bc of french)#like. sorry that the existence of 'cat' in english implies to you that 'animal' is not a real english word!#don't know why the entirely true statement that 'english is fundamentally germanic' always seems to devolve into nativist bullshit#but damn does it ever.#people are fixated on the vastly oversimplified 'french derived = elitist prestige register from foreigners; germanic = common real speech'#in reality normal everyday english chatter constantly and necessarily includes plenty of french-derived words (often unrecognized)#like pantry! the longer any english document or speech goes without any french- or latin-based words#the more ridiculously and artificially childish it sounds#esp given that some /ultimately/ germanic words in english came into it not from old english but via medieval or anglo-french#often taken from old norse. so 'germanic' real talk from real folk vs dastardly french corruption can be even more complicated#than the obvious xenophobic nonsense motivating the whole anglish thing#even my guy (and known old english lover & french hater) jrr tolkien could only /minimize/ the french-based vocab in lotr#if he'd gotten rid of it altogether he'd sound like he was writing for four-year-olds#english#anglish hate blog#okay for the tags:#anghraine rants

Guys I beg you,
I'm looking wherever I can, but if anyone finds Nosferatu's script of Bill Skarsgard's dialogue in Dacian, or any sort of in-depth explanation of how Florin Lazarescu went about constructing it (in whatever language, I can read Romanian well enough if need be), please drop a hint, God bless your heart.

Hey so what’s your drawing process?
GET OUT MY HOU---
I have never been asked this b4! :-O Im drawing at the moment so it wouldnt hurt to explain how i do my refs for example heehoo
First i shallablamkdabdomdb I Think. I brainstorm. Im like. How does this character behave and act towards their everyday surroundings. 🤔🤨.... and then im like BAM I GOT YOU NOW!!!!! Sooo for the ram , for example- shes around 17 and is like ,, Shes very messy yet energetic ,, a god of war at her age makes her very energetic and outgoing since she has all this power (and well i guess it doesnt help she has adhd but-) so i was thinking about her pose as something rlly silly and dynamic
As i got used to drawing poses it was actually smth i learned from a couple of my moots- one of my moots got a similiar ask like this nd i took it with a big bag of rice and RAN ,,, Its all about me wanting to make dynamic poses- im not the best at fluid bests For Now but IM GETTING THERE ,
But yes sorry; thinking about my poses, sketch it twice, begin linearting- but after i finish lineart, i create different layers of coloring because my brain (ocd) tells me things and if i dont do This Thag Way I Will Be Killed On Spot With A Nuclear Ray From The Sky
I do lineart first, draw the face over on another layer, do hair color first, then body color under the hair color,, after im finished with that i then go HEEERRRM. NOW. Does it deserve a little razzle dazzling? A little speckle spackle? Do i want to render it? Do i want to change the lineart color to highlight the characters main color scheme? Yap yap yap my process isnt ALWAYS like this but its usually that way-
For allure though i can use a good example for this- when drawing allure—if i want to line their hair with the darker beige—i create two more layers and then draw over their hActually this doesnt make any sense I MEAN. WELL. I COULD PROBABLY JUST SHOW THE TIMELAPSE. Oh yeah I overuse the undo and redo button as well as using a FUCK ton of references from pinterest
But heres what my canvas looks like atm :-] if i want to make size comparisons i lower the opacity of the finished art and sketch over that with how tall or small the character is- aaliyah here is the shortest and smallest so to make sure i did her height and body size right i use the transform tool to slide her across the grid and go "is she smaller than i made her ??? Is she TALLER than i made her?? Did i manage to do her body weight correctly???" Etc etc
,,
Okay maybe nothing i said made actual senseMAYBE ILL TALK ABOUT MY OTHER EXAMPLES...? Im Digging
For something like this i actually kept th sketch BWAHAHA- i didnt really feel like tracing over it again (at least more or so properly-) so i shrugged, went Fuck It, then made my sketch the lineart layer. I put the flat color beneath it afterwards, put Alpha Lock on so i can shade, and bada bing Bada Boom ,, background comes after everything else (BAD HABIT) (COMPOSITION AND PERSPECTIVE R HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY WHERE MY CHARACTER STANDS-)
Uhh what elseOhYeah if its a standalone sheet for me or a friend- i draw the two poses that come to mind first, write down all the information i was provided (eithet myself or a friend), and then draw anything else i want to next to the poses if theres space left,, this is my brothers lamb and so i went back nd forth asking doll if what was okay and what wasnt okay to add-
ABSOLUTELY YAPFESTING . SORRY. I HOPE SOME OF THAT MADE SENSE. I know this wasnt an advice ask but if people ever needed advice from me i usually fuck it up cuz my Very Own process confuses me sometimes-
I usually either take 1 hour or 2 days to finish something (yes im That chronically online and insane to draw for 48 hours straight without sleeping)
That or if i hate something i go insane (negatively) over it and refuse to ask for peer review (at least sometimes-) so im like Okay Fuck This Wip. This Doesnt Exist Anymore
#sydneys asks#sydneys doodles#sydneys wips#i guess that counts here-#i did not read over my own words so in all honesty my english has been pretty fucked up as of recent so if this is ineligble then i am Sorry#OH YEAH I PRIORTIZE SHAPES. UM. NOT SHAPE LANGUAGE. MAYBE SOMETIMES THOUGH. IT DEPENDS ON HOW IM FEELING#I need to go eat somethingThats Unrelated

Trying to transliterate Leara's name into Quenya, and it somehow becomes, uh,
Lëarra
Which basically means "You Sealion!"
And I'm just, "Oh yes, this is That Sealion Woman, and she can breathe fire, as all sealions do."
If Leara, for any reason at all, needed an actual Quenya or Sindarin name for any fun Elvish shenanigans, we'll just use Calairie/Calearil, which is "Light of the Sea" in Quenya and Sindarin, and what Leara actually means.
#I mean yes she uses vilya as her spy name but that's elrond's ring (ps elrond is my favorite i wanted you to know)#and elanor is her middle name and what she used in the blades but that's just a flower which yeah leara is big on roses#BUT ELANOR IS ALSO SAM'S DAUGHTER I CAN'T DO THAT#how did lin manuel miranda get on my likes playlist wth oh it's moana cool cool#anyway#coining a name like artanis felagund for a character has made me so twitchy that i have to do languages right now or not at all#ever look at aldmeris/altmeris and quenya and sindarin side by side and go 'huh there are a lot of crossover words what's up with that?'#BUT YOU KNOW IT'S BECAUSE TOLKIEN IS THE FATHER OF ELVISH AND ANY OTHER ELF LANGUAGE IS GOING TO BORROW#it's like uh oh he'd hate this comparison but it's like tolkien elvish is latin/greek and TES elvish is english#but yeah i brought maglor's name over into aldmeris so leara needed to be taken into quenya and sindarin#it's totally not because i'm still thinking of that hypothetical Skyrim/lotr leara/glorfindel fic#okay i am but it's even more pipedreamy than leara/astarion#keeping count is going to be 50+ chapters I am a COLLEGE STUDENT i am so tired please help me#I'm going to go make cookies in the air fryer now like an unhinged feral fey faerie child#which is what i am in case you were wondering which i note you WEREN'T#ahem#oc: leara roseblade#languages#mod post#BUT NO HOLD ON i don't know ANY D&D ELVISH WHATSOEVER but they told me astarion means little star and it's his childhood name#and i am like obviously because 'ion' means 'son of' in Sindarin and can easily become a diminutive suffix#i am dangerous around languages i can tell you where any cow is from just on the name alone its madness (is it? is it madness?)#okay now i'm done

negative connotations to Arabic phrase ‘God is Great’ incorrect. average praying Muslim does takbir (says Allahu Akbar) a minimum 95 times a day and should have been counted.
#minimum#like MIMIMUM.#each day#like that’s just for the 5 prayers#only the obligatory ones it doesn’t include the additional voluntary ones most people also tend to do at some point#it doesn’t include regular use of the phrase in conversation#the phrase is literally used as an exclamation#like if you say ‘Allahu akbar my shift is over! I can go home alhumdulilah!’#like I don’t know what to tell you#western news-media connotations are so weird#you literally yell takbir to celebrate as well#saw a thing where everyone did takbir every time someone donated a huge amount to charity like brooooooooo#people be laughing so hard and getting Allahuakbar Allahuakbar out while wheezing#you score a goal? Allahu akbar alhumdulilah#this is very normal culturally transmitted info#Christian Arabs use the phrase as well like it's Arabic come on western media you’re not even trying#it’s such a joke#95 doesn't even include the 2 calls to prayer#it doesn't count people who do the extra allahu akbar (x33) after each prayer#doesn't include anything recited before bed#like. these are not uncommon things people choose to do. like...... BRO???#if you've ever seen Muslims praying in a group the person leading the prayer does the takbir out loud. that's literally how it's done#there are like 7 or 5 'Allahu akbar's in each round of prayer#you can't NOT say that part out loud it's literally THE part that has to be said out loud in each prayer#this information is very available online#you can say it before doing anything idk why it became a big deal in the west especially#it's some strange xenophobic Islamophobic normalise killings in those regions of the world mix#I’ve been getting recommended so many Arabic anime edits idk what to tell you#call everyone habibi it’s good for you#one of the most popular world languages fr

doing my anatomy study is fucking torturous bc every time i read some shit like “birds dont have a diaphragm” my brains like “hmmmm…… birdperson…..” and then i end up thinking abt him instead of studying
#it is rlly fun tho. thinking deeply abt alien (bird guy) biology all the time#ok typing this bc its fun and counts as revision.#(if i get anything wrong idgaf. this is from memory)#birds only have tiny kinda rigid lungs so they have a bunch of air sacs instead for air to flow into#and no diaphragm! so they use the intercostal muscles to breathe in and out#which r like the muscles around the ribs#but also means if u squeeze them around the middle they cant breathe#birds also have a kinda weird digestive system due to not having teeth etc#but of course bp .. does. but his diet is similar to that of seed eating birds#we dont see him eat i dont think. ?#its possible he has a mixed style of digestive system.. with a stomach like a human and gizzard like a bird#assuming he just swallows seeds whole without chewing lol#hmmm… id say its probably more likely he just has a proventriculus/gizzard combo and maybe like. a larger proventriculus than normal birds#hard to say. we dont rlly know enough abt his diet ig#altho i imagine it to be omnivorous#also smth fun is birds often swallow stones to help digest seeds. now if he chewed it probably wouldnt be necessary. but think abt it. silly#ok take this w a pinchhh of salt. but diet aside the teeth could be used simply for speech.#i vaguely remember learning abt that in language.#also he does Canonically have a cloaca ! wont go into that rn. but hmmm. much to think abt.#basiclaly bp pussy reallllll#kinda.#in the ways that matter !#oooooh what else.#ooooh. yes. birds dont have vocal chords. they have a syrinx for vocalisation#but of coursee bp can talk.#butttt there are birds that can imitate human speech. so its possible bp just uses similar techniques for speech#but it also gives him a far greater control over his voice than most … making him perfect as the lead singer :]#oh and ummm. he veryyyy likely has hollow bones. so even tho hes huge hes deceptively light. TEE HEE#ok thats it. i need to actaully revise this shit now LOL#but ooohhgghhhg. i need him.

Would you rather speak all languages or have the ability to speak to all animals?
speak to all animals. humans are also animals so that means i also get every language anyway 😎
#but fr if that didn't count i would probably go with all languages#itd be great to speak with animals but id like to start with being able to speak to all of the animals that i share a species with first#then we can go from there

what’s your favorite thing to write about? :0
i love love love writing characters who, for one reason or another, are WILDLY out of their depth (yxy in r&r/[REDACTED] wip getting sent ~300 years further into the past than intended, bai hua who just has no idea about genre conventions, what the original plot was, etc, while Also being 1000+ years in the past), and also women ^^ all of my novels are from the pov of women* (and all of them are lesbians as well! most of the women in my novels are lesbians or unlabelled but not interested in men, unless explicitly stated otherwise). oh and time travel i guess, since that features in 2/3 of my novels, can’t believe i forgot about that
#i say women* because some of them definitely have some gender going on but for the purposes of casual conversation are women#games#inbox#indigo ink#also i guess a lot of my writing focuses on asia and asian characters and experiences (because i’m asian) but i’m not sure that’s#if that necessarily counts#it’s mostly because i was tired of there being so many english language novels set in the usa or canada or europe or Vaguely Western Lands#where the concepts are really interesting but only ever set in the west#and english language novels with asian characters or settings if they’re mainstream#are usually either The Diaspora Experience or Translated Literary Classics#and like that’s all good and great but it’s not what *i* relate to you know what i mean#i think we deserve fun whacky english language novels about asian characters and experiences#make westerners learn some Exotic Oriental Words it won’t kill them

I've decided to start using toddler logic when dealing with conservatives in every day life.
Rather than trying to counter their bullshit with adult logic, I'm just going to ask extremely simple questions.
"Undocumented immigrants should be deported!"
Why?
"Because it's illegal for them to be here!"
Why?
"Because they're stealing our jobs/social security!!!"
How?
"By abusing the system!"
How?
"By using resources that they didn't pay for!"
But how?
"They just are!"
But how?
"I don't know how they're doing it but I know they are!"
But how do you know?
"Because it was on the news!"
Why?
#the most powerful and useful questions in the English language are also the simplest:#why? how? what? when? where?#they also seem to be the most difficult questions to answer when you're brainwashed and indoctrinated by a cult#so far this has just made them angry and fed up but they stop talking to me so I'm counting it as a win#online I just block and move on but in-person is harder to get away from#and honestly asking these questions has made OTHER people go “wait yeah how/why?”#Basically it pisses off the brainwashed and creates doubt in the minds of those who haven't supped the orange kool-aid

Recently found out there's this anime called Sasurai-kun by Fujiko Fujio (A) about a salaryman who manages to take a bit of a mental break and get a refreshed perspective by vacationing out in the countryside. Simple, lighthearted, nostalgic.
So far I could only find the first episode and it's not subtitled (tho that could just be because I didn't dig deep enough) but it's cool cuz the plot truly kicks off when Moguro Fukuzou shows up and is like "I know this is your show but I'm here to push you in the right direction." Like it's supposed to be just a cameo but it's one that ends up facilitating the premise.
It's kinda like watching an episode of the Laughing Salesman but from the customer's perspective (and also it's not nearly as morbid as the Laughing Salesman tends to be) and I think that's pretty interesting.
#sasurai-kun#the laughing salesman#laughing salesman#warau salesman#moguro fukuzou#fukuzou moguro#fujiko f fujio#admittedly tho i didn't have too much trouble following the ep#it's a straightforward enough plot that even with a language barrier you kinda get what's going on#but granted that was just the first ep#it's not like a super mind-blowing show or anything but it is a pretty nice cozy watch#especially if you like retro anime#honestly retro anime is something i should get into more cuz it does have a very comforting vibe#and as a late 90s/2000s kid i grew up with stuff like sailor moon and the pokemon indigo league anime#those count as retro now right?#like I'm pretty sure if it's pre-2010s we can call it retro

The Messiah and the man who devoted his whole life to him until the bitter end (it's Simon Peter)
These r my designs for a story I'm (desperately) trying to write
(it's bible fanfiction, like good omens and.. partially Hazbin..) Abt heaven n hell/the bible and shit yk.... I'm normal I promise

Btw the forehead scar/marking on Jesus is fully inspired by the last unicorn, it's basically where his 3rd eye/"God Eye" is, when opened he becomes fully omniscient like Big G (he's not in his neutral state cause well, half human, also he doesn't like it), it's like a special ability LOL ; under the hair it's diamond/star shaped-ish (✨)

ok inspired by a thing my friend told me about a director who watches four different types of movies a week, this year every month i'm gonna try and watch:
a black and white movie
a foreign language movie
an australian movie
a 2025 release (preferably in cinemas)
and i shall be posting abt them here to hold me accountable!!
#the black and white movies and current releases should be the easiest bc i basically watch them this frequently already#but i watch like zero foreign language movies and even less australian movies#the closet ones are like leigh whannell movies#but they always slap so personally i think they should count#edit: i just checked my letterboxd and i only watched 8 black and white movies last year!! and two of them were modern anyway#so ye i can still improve!! let's go 😤
