#lance is a HUGE fan of hunk and romelle

Hunk, Romelle, and Keith all grew up on a space station managed by the Voltron Coalition. It's a diverse mixing pot of all kinds different alien races, located centrally in the alliance.

Keith's mother Krolia was a member of the Blade of Marmora, an elite peacekeeping force created after the end of the first Galactic War. Her work takes her away from home for months at a time.

After Heath died, Keith would often stay with either Hunk or Romelle's family when Krolia was away.

Romelle was the one who pitched the idea of being street performers to Hunk first, and he just kind of went along with it to make her happy. But then he saw that it could make other people happy, and well... that kind of sealed the deal for him.

Their unit name is Yellow Lion. Of course it is.

The success they've gotten is... kind of overwhelming for him at times. But between Romelle, Keith, Allura, and Coran, there's always someone around to help with his nerves.

(Coran and Allura understood from the start that Keith was sort of a package deal with them. Where they went, so did he.)

Shiro used to be Keith's mentor back at the flight academy he attended before he dropped out after Hunk and Romelle became more popular and he decided he'd take on the task to protect him. But just because he never graduated, doesn't mean his skills aren't top notch.

For years, the galaxy was embroiled in a massive war over quintessence before peace was finally established. It is a tentative thing, and there are factions that would like nothing more than to restart it.

Allura also quite enjoys singing, and has a lovely voice, but Coran has always tried to keep her out of the limelight for some reason...

Allura may or may not be the missing Altean princess who disappeared during the war. No use asking her, since she can't really recall much of her past.

There's a long-standing rumor that when the voices of three people chosen by the white lion combine on the right frequency, it can grant untold power. I'm sure that will in no way ever become relevant.

they don’t have kids. keith has too much damage about families, lance already feels fulfilled with the family that he has, and they’ve already had enough responsibility to last them a lifetime. they just want to spend the rest of their lives enjoying each other’s company and having fun

they do get married, eventually, though keith still thinks marriage is unnecessary and bowing to the wills of the government. he ends up giving in, though, because he knows its important to lance. they get married on varadero beach and honeymoon in space on lots of different cool and exciting planets

lance starts getting facial hair and he hates it. he literally learns how to wax his facial hair out because he hates it and doesn’t even want stubble. keith doesn’t get much but he shaves away any he gets. he thinks facial hair looks gross but he doesn’t mind the stubble enough to deal with the pain of waxing it

keith: i literally have like two tiny patches of stubble. you are so dramatic

lance goes to college, keith doesn’t because he doesn’t like structure but he sticks around for lance’s sake obviously. lance is an undeclared major for a while but he ends up going into marine biology. he’s had enough of space otherwise he would do astronomy...but he’s really just in college for fun and not career prospects (they plan to live the rest of their life blackmailing the garrison for money and otherwise just working whatever jobs are fun for them at the time)

once lance is out of college, they move around frequently. after being in literal space and not staying in one place for more than a few days, it feels super unnatural to think of staying somewhere forever. plus, if they move around they get to see the whole world. they rent apartments for 3 months at a time, or if they can’t do that, they just get a longer term airbnb

one of their favorite places they ever live is japan actually...keith has been learning japanese in his lots of free time, trying to connect with his culture and stuff, and he teaches lance enough to get by (though in most cities in japan, you can get by on english). they stay there for like, almost a year. it’s a fun place and they spend lots of time exploring and finding new and interesting things to do

lance becomes way too obsessed with gacha machines. keith comes home and lance is like “look at all these new things i got today!” and it’s like 3 tiny kirby figures and a tiny pokemon plush

keith’s favorite part of japan is cat island. lance has to stop him from adopting 20 cats

whenever they’re in between places they live, they go visit someone they love and crash on their couch

they visit shiro and adam, who live near the garrison still. shiro never stopped wanting to teach, so they got the garrison to set them up in a cool ass apartment nearby. shiro loves when they visit and takes a whole week off work the first time just to hang out. keith just wants to chill, but he humors shiro because he knows he should. the good thing is that adam is an excellent cook, so it’s nice living with them

keith also gets to walk around the garrison like a ghost when he visits shiro. he likes finding hiding places to pop out from and scare the shit out of iverson

hunk is living in an apartment in new york with pidge, and they’re living out their dreams (meaning hunk is a chef at a 5 star restaurant and pidge is hacking whoever she wants for fun. she gets a monthly stipend from the united states government to keep her from hacking them. sometimes she does it anyways).

hunk and lance have missed being together so much. pidge and hunk get a special rendition of the dance that hunk and lance made to gwen stefani’s “hollaback girl” when they were kids

they occasionally visit allura, romelle, and coran in space, too! allura is busy a lot with her new role of queen of the universe but she always finds a few days to hang out with the old crew whenever they visit

they also visit florida and cuba to see all of lance’s family! lance gets a lot of time to show keith around his hometown(s). keith still isn’t huge on the beach, not a fan of the heat or the sand, but he loves seeing lance in his element so much that he will always go along without complaint

Hidden Beauty

Here is my submission for Days 1(First Sunrise/Set) & 2(Late Night Adventure) of Kacxa Week I had this plan to do quick ficlets for these 2 days but no matter what I did they merged into one and Kind of ties in with “The Promise.”

This post would have been up sooner, but I kind of pepper sprayed myself. Harvested hot pepper seeds from plants I grew earlier and apparently I didn’t wash the oils off well enough xD xD xD 

Anyway, here is my submission for days 1 & 2 titled Hidden Beauty

"Let me take you somewhere in which you will feel young and take your mind away from all this..."

It was nighttime on Verolgah-VI. The two planetoid moons did their annual dance across the evening sky as shooting stars streaked the upper atmosphere. The devastated planet's temperature was chilly, but nothing like what most of the Paladins were used to, save for one.

He looked to the lions with 3 out of the 5 charged up, Red was in the final stages of charging up. He let out a sigh; some things were going to plans, but he had to remain on edge as the leader. Shit tends to hit the fan when one least expected it, and with friends still about 2 maybe 3 more days away, anything could go wrong.

Since they first landed on, well, more or less crashed when the lions collapsed from low energy, the Paladins all slept in the cave with Acxa. But tonight was different; it was cold enough to drive them to the lions that were charged. Hunk, Lance, Shiro, and Coran were sleeping in the Yellow Lion. Allura, Pidge, and Romelle were sleeping in Green, with Blue-Powered down to preserve power. Krolia and Keith's wolf were snuggled up in Black, which was somewhat comfier than the ground from the Star-whale, but nothing close to temperature.

Keith only grabbed his red & white jacket from Black's storage locker, from when he grabbed what little belongings he left on the Castle when he took a sabbatical from the Voltron-Force. Krolia was ready to get some sleep when she asked if he would turn in. His response was he had too much on his mind and was going for a walk. When his mother saw Acxa walk out of the cave, she gave him her sly "mother knows all" smirk and responded with "you kids don't stay out too late" before turning and taking his wolf with her.

Blushing and stammering at her, he turned to see Acxa wearing something similar to an Earth styled tank top in the moons' light, which her blue skin radiant. When he got within range of her, she gestured her head to follow her. He threw his jacket on which even over his Paladin Armor slightly loose. He put his belt with his Marmoran blade on and started walking with her. She took him to her favorite spot in silence. It had been three long years since she saw him last and even though she had so much to tell him, opening up was something relatively new for her. Even taking him to a spot she had grown to love in her mind was a huge gamble, that she was surprised she was doing.

It was one of the most stunning sights next to her that he had ever seen. It was a massive valley with a small creek like waterfall leading into a small shallow lake. Further behind were some of the most gorgeous mountain ranges he had ever seen with millions of stars. Even the nearby Argola nebula was just barely seen. Its blues, greens, purples, & reds intensified by the planet's atmosphere. His mouth agape, Acxa finally broke her silence. "I found this place about a year and a half after I was left here by the coalition."

Keith walked forward, taking in the beauty of the water, reflecting the moons and stars. The water droplets flying into the air reminded him of fireflies he used to catch with his father when he was a small boy, "It's beautiful." She walked up to match his location, slowly wrapping her arm around his. She sensed him tensing a little and then relax, but she knew he was much like her. Both introverted warriors, just starting to let their feelings show on the surface. "In the morning this spot reminds me of my homeworld, before it was officially... 'indoctrinated' into the Empire."

He looked to her, seeing a sorrowful look on her face. "Tell me about it?" She looked at him softly, smiling, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. She started to sit down, but he stopped her taking his jacket off, laying it on the ground gesturing for them to sit on it. She slowly sat down on his coat. She looked at him. "Won't you get cold?" He shook his head, "Nah, I grew up in the desert for the most part. I am used to brutally hot and brutally cold temps."

Acxa nodded and looked up to the stars and looked back at him. "From what I remember, it wasn't like this planet. For the better part of a deca-phoeb the planet was a relatively fridgid planet, but it was no barren froze wasteland. My mother's people were born in a region in which it was neither barely above freezing or frozen. The closer you got to the planet's polar region the darker blue their skin got, towards the equatorial sections they were either a lignt blue almost white color almost like that little girl & those two Alteans. But regardless of our skintone we all loved Aaenergola..."

Keith continued to listen to the Acxa tell him of her homeworld. The architecture, the lore, some of the history, the customs, and so much more emphatically. But when it came to the story of the Empire coming to her world, her demeanor and tone changed. Her planet had fought the best it could but ultimately was indoctrinated into the Empire.

She revealed her father was a doctor and her mother a Galra Lieutenant who he had saved from dying. Both harbored no ill will towards the other's race. When she was born, both parents wanted her yo have a decent education despite being a half-blood. But it wasn't until she got to her parents' death when she was 9 that she became bitter. When Aaenergolan Terrorists executed her parents for helping Galran citizens while Aaenergolans were starving. She trailed off as she remembered coming out of her hiding place. Finding her father brutally murdered, protecting the area she was hiding.

Keith, for the first time, saw tears streaking down her face and her lip trembling. He placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to scoot closer to him. He had asked if she wanted to stop, and she nodded her head, wiping some of her tears away, asking about his homeworld.

As she did to him, he told her of Earth and his life on the distant planet they were trying to get back to. Of the blue skies and oceans, everything that made the planet one of the most beautiful he has ever lived on. Growing up with just a father before he died fighting a fire. His life before his adopted brother Shiro came into it.

Keith told her it wasn't until he was on a Blade mission did he learn who his mother was and later on in the Quantum Abyss, the reasons why he grew up without her in his life. Just hearing his voice caused her to relax and snuggle up to him. He felt her wrap an arm around his waist, prompting him to wrap an arm around her shoulders. When he stopped talking about Earth, she was fast asleep, snoring softly on his shoulder. Not long after, he fell asleep after repositioning, so her head was on his chest armor.

Many Vargas later, Acxa sat right up as one of the suns started to rise. She was expecting to be alone, which typically happened when she let her guard down, showing a side people typically never see. But was relieved seeing Keith still sleeping next to her. She pulled her legs to her chest and started watching the suns rise.

He started to stir, feeling the warmth on his face. When he woke up, he saw Acxa sitting up, his jacket draped over her shoulders. He slowly sat up and beheld one of the most stunning sights as the twin suns started to dance across the sky. The water, especially the waterfall, looked like it was molten lava. Like the sky, the vegetation itself looked like it was ablaze, swaying in the wind with colors of reds, blues, greens, and purples.

Both half breeds talked a little while enjoying the beauty of the sunset heads perched against each other. When the bottom of the second sun was just barely over the distant mountains, they decided it was time to head back to the group. But before leaving, he took one last look at their surroundings and turned to her.

She had a nervous look on her face, "About last night..." He had a delicate look on his face and softly smiled, "I want to thank you for last night. You bringing me to this beautiful place was as if you were opening your true self to me." She closed her mouth, being a little surprised at being thanked; she started to blush purple. "It takes great courage and trust to open up to someone, and I hope I am worthy of both."

Almost 2 hours later: The group was starting to freak out that Keith was nowhere to be found, nor was Acxa. Most of the group was searching the compound, while others were searching the immediate area. Some were worried that the pirates took them, one worried that their host handed him over to the pirates, while another knew all too well where they were. She refused to answer anyone's questions about why she wasn't worried. But Coran soon put two and two together, once being a parent himself.

When the group regrouped, it wasn't until his wolf snapped his head up, ears perked that everyone put their attention elsewhere. With their leader and hostess missing, The Paladins drew their bayards ready for anything. If it were an ambush like last time, they'd be prepared to fight.

Two figures were walking towards them with the suns at their backs, nearly blinding everyone. When the wolf bolted and teleported, everyone got on edge, waiting for the inevitable attack. But it never came. Instead, they could barely make out one figure stopping greeting the wolf and the three of them walking back.

As they got close, enough everyone realized that it was Keith with Acxa wearing his jacket. But what really caught their attention was that they were both holding hands and that their demeanor was different. It was no longer of two socially awkward Galrans who tried hiding there was something there to clearly having broken the ice with each other.

epilogue

On the planet of Olkarion Rebels,Queen slayers Mercarnies and Olkair alike were celebrating the Huge Victory they just had against the empire .But above the planet the Castle of lions , Along with several other rebel ships were being repaired by Vanguards cloud of nanobots. An as this was happening inside of the Castle of lions .Lance,Keith, Hunk, Pidge,Jay and Matt  Were all sitting around The healing pods that housed Thace and Shiro now both armless seeing as Shiro was rejected do to his metal arm being severally damaged in the fight  

“ Hey Jay can you put some music on sitting here in silence is really depressing “Matt asked 

“ Alright  “ Jay replied as he tapped on his wrist computer and let his music start play

“ Your welcome “ Jay said before the room return to the semi silence it was before just with music playing in the background They all sat there for a few minutes until Allura,Coran, Ezra,Shay and Kolivan walked in

“ So how's everyone doing  ?” Coran asked But no one answered” Oh that bad uh” Coran rubbed the back of  his head as Ezra and Shay walked to their respective Boyfriends 

“ Well after everything they have gone through it makes sense that they would be tried and well worried “Allura looked towards  The healing Thace and Shiro

“ So Allura what is are next move?” Keith asked

“ Well I wanted to talk to you about that. After learning Zarkon’s plan to capture your families and use them as a bargaining chip against us. I believe we should go back to your homeworld and make sure your families are alright and to well recruit Earth to the coalition along with recruiting Mars if that’s ok with you jay ”  Allura looked over to jay to see his reaction 

“ Yeah it’s fine we would  have to go there eventually” Jay said as he leaned his head on Ezra’s shoulder 

“ An the rest of you ?” Allura turned her head towards the other 

“ Yeah going home sounds nice” Lance said

“ Same here it would be nice to show Shay around my hometown   “ Hunk said  

“ I would like that” Shay add

“ I wouldn’t mind going home after a year of fighting see mom again would be a breath of fresh air.Right Katie “ Matt said as he elbow bumped his sister 

“ Yeah it would be nice to see mom again. I just hope see doesn’t loss it when she sees what happened to my leg “ Pidge said as she tapped on her right foot   

‘ Yeah that’s going to be a pain explain also she might want you to stop being a Paladin after seeing your foot” Matt replied 

“ Keith what’s your opinion on this ?” Lance asked 

“ I mean where am i going to go. I live on this ship and my brother brother in law and Nephew also live here.So where they go i go” Keith said Bluntly 

“ Alright it looks like were all in agreement So when are we heading out?” Jay asked 

“Once Adam and your kids are back on board and the repair are done will be heading out to your home system“  Allura said

“ Alright with that out of the way is there anything else we need to take about?” Lance asked 

“ Well i think K-7 could be useful he was made to be pilot so having more mech pilots on are sie would be nice.Once we start make are own V-types. As for the twins “

“ They did help us fight Zarkon” Pidge add  

“ But they almost kill us the first time we meet them” Hunk said he felt Shay’s grip around his arm tighten a bit 

“ Yeh i don’t trust them to much after that “ Shay added 

“ But they also worried us about zarkon plan to kidnap  are families “Pidge countered 

“ But they helped kill entire rebel outpost” Matt add 

“ Ok but they helped us and can pilot Robeasts and i firmly believe that they can help us in the long run and i mean if the do betray us we can just end them without a second thought “ Jay said 

“ Not to interrupt your discussion” Everyone turned to look at the speaker who was Kolivan “ but i believe the Twins should go with us seeing as they are children of are former members “ Kolivan said     

“ Well Before we make a concrete decision  let have Adam be here and see what the twins want to do.” Jay said 

“ no i think they Should go with the Blade it would get them out are hands, An they could still help us in th long run”Keith said   

“ Yeah that sounds fine but still lets wait for adam to get he so we have a full team decides “ jay replied 

“ Well you are third in command so will wait “ Lance said 

“ Well Allura’s here and her word trumps mine” Jay turned his head to look at the princess  “ So boss what do you want to do with them ?” He asked

“Lets wait til Adam is here and when Shiro wakes up “ Allura said she then turn to look towards Kolivan “ Will you being willing to wait an few more hours ?”

“ It will be fine i am not need back for a few more day.But if you don’t mind we would like to send Thace back to base with Axtok?”

“ That is fine “Allura replied 

“ Thank you “ 

[ Princess The prometheus is approaching and will be docking soon.  ] 

“ Well i looks like will get are answer soon “ Matt add 

“ So whose going to be the one to tell Adam what happened to Shiro ‘ Hunk said 

“ I will i’m a doctor intraining and i was the one who had promised to Shiro home alive” Jay got to his feet helped Erza up to their feet  ”  lets get this over with  “ Jay said as he walked out of the room followed by Ezra 

Elsewhere 

in his peranol chamber of his Capital Ship Lotor looked at The badly damaged Command center with thousands of plasma impact burneds ,Bullet holes, and a long gash that lay their like an open wound on the side of the command center. “ I wish i could have seen it. Most have been a beautiful fight “ Lotor said to himself as he starred at the carnage caused by the Rebel army. As he looked the door to his chamber.Lotor turn to see a Women with lite blue skin dark purple and blue hair. Blue eyes with yellow sclera  She also had four small horn sticking out of the side of her head and they wore the armor of his generals

“ Lord lotor we have collected the fragments of those cubes “ The woman said 

“ Good have are top researchers on in i want to know what they're made of and where they came from “ 

“ Yes my lord” 

“ Then once your done with that bring me the man named skyver followed by Contacting are spies in the rebellion and tell them to watch this Jay person closely i want any and all information on them. He is are only lead to this second Altean Colony and we must find it before my mother does .  I will not let her kill of what is left of my people. “ Lotor ordered 

“ Yes my lord” 

“ one last have we found where bandor disappeared to ?” Lotor asked

“ Back i the first colony we was found by guard barely alive. He is currently being treated there and is said to make a full recovery in the come months. We also did a head count after the crash and found that we are now missing one other person”

“ Do we any idea on her current whereabouts ?” 

“ No she has disappeared near the Void’s opening she may be dead My lord “

Lotor clenched his fists hearing that “ And what of CenterPoint labs 

Axca voice when from her normal stern and militaristic tone to more somber one “ completely destroyed and only a few members of the team survived”

“And what about the few survivors “   

“ Off world and in recovery “

“ Alright We'll hold off  on the gate project for another few year and keep me posted on the recovery. You are dismissed “Lotor order 

“ Yes my lotor “ Axca said as she left Lotors Chamber    

Lotor stood there in silence for a few minutes 

“ It was not your fault My friend sciences as it’s rises   “ Ragna said as he walked out from a shadowy corner of the room 

“ Still It was my orders that sealed  the fates of all those people “ Lotor said looking at the smokey wolf      

“ True but you now know what not to do next time “

“ Not to follow my parents notes and stop trying to tear a hole into the fabric of reality “

“Correct Now what is the next step seeing as your father failed to capture  Voltron or the Valkyrie  “

“ I still believe conniving  Voltron  to join us is are best options and to make peace with the rebellion.But i don’t think mother or most of the Generals that were under my fathers rule wouldn’t  be happy about it “

“ Then fight for it and make them listen to you”  Ragna said 

“That is the easy part the hard part is going to be talking to the Paladin in the first place”

“ The worst thing they can do is kill you and fully shatter the empire and bring peace to the universe “ Ragna said 

“  They won’t kill me hopefully when they make this new universal government.Now how is my mother doing “

“ She is in grieving still “ 

“ And of the force that influencing her.”

“ It’s still there stronger now then it was before ” 

“ Alright then it’s going to be but we most keep pushing forwards if we are to stop what is coming “  Lotor said as he walked over to a desk in his room and tapped a button on it to reveal a screen that show a crack in the fabric of reality that was slowly getting bigger and had several different energies leaking out of it

Back in the castle of lions   

Jay and Ezra walked down the hall way towards the hanger beau had told them to go to meet Adam and Jay’s kids

“So you guys going to stay with the fleet or got back to hunting down Queens?” Jay asked 

“ once the repair are done will follow you guys for a few day see what worlds your going to recruit some people then go back to bugs” Ezra replied as They  held onto Jay’s arm 

“ Good to know ‘Jay replied

“ So have you figured out what your going to tell ADam when you see him ?” ill Ezra asked 

“ I’l just tell  him the truth we won and Shiro’s in the healing pods and is missing his arm. “ Jay replied as the two entire into the Hanger. As they entered the Hanger they saw several rebel Ships parked along with Seeing the Valkyrie sitting there surrounded by dozens of rebel pilots engineers and ground troops They also saw the Prometheus parked with next to the dragon mech  

“ Looks like Val has a little fan club “Ezra said 

“ Yeah it looks like it and it looks like Adam’s already he let get this over with then ” Jay replied as the two walked towards the crowd surrounding.

As they got closer to it A female voice Yelled out to them“ Hey Silver lining do you have a moment “Jay stopped in place with Ezra stopping alongside him 

  Jay didn’t know if the person was referring to him or someone else but he turned his head towards the voice and saw a Coeihns woman with short Green hair, Blue eyes  wearing a muscl-t and a open  fleet suit with the upper half tied around her waist .she was walking towards them and the only reason he know the women’s race the moment he saw here was because she looked very similar  to bastion which made him fell a little uneasy.

“ You talking to me “ Jay said while pointing to himself as his helmet automatically pitch shifted his voice to sound like sound wave 

“ Oh my god really” erza asked as they fought back laughter at the stupid voice 

“ What i am i suppose to do it just happens “ Jay said as he pulled of his helmet and started to messing with the in working off 

“ Well that answer my first question “ The Coeilhn woman said as a carma bot float in front of Jay’s face and was about to take his picture 

But if on reflex most of Jay’s facial features disappeared leaving just as the flash when off  

‘ OK that one’s new” Ezra said starring at a now faceless jay 

The Jay mouth reappeared” Next time ask someone  if you want to take their  picture” Jay pushed the carma bot away from his face as he put his helmet back   “ Now who are you and why are you bothering me “ He said he voice dripping with annoyance and anger following that his face marking glowing brightly    

The Coeilhn women stepped back a little scared by the sudden tone shift “ I’m Rey Wellmore I’m photographer working with the Rebels. An i was hoping that i could get a few pictures you and the valkyrie along with Asking you a few question “ REy replied 

Jay’s anger faded away ‘ Next time ask a head of time because  right now i have some where to be and someone to me wi” JAy was cut off as something slammed into his back nearly knocking him to the floor. Jay’s head did a 180% and looked down to see bastion face pressed against his back followed by him  hugging Jay “ Oh hi Bastion”   

“ Your back “ BAstion said his voice muffled   

“ Yeah i am .What did you think i wasn’t going to comeback ?”

“ Maybe”

“ Why?” He question 

“ I don’t know when you didn’t come down with everyone. We thought maybe you had died  “

“ You could have called i bought you all phones for that reason” 

“ we may have forgotten that “ Bastion replied 

“ God you guys really are taking after me “ Jay said as he patted Bastion on his head 

“ Excuse me but who are you talking to ? “ Rey asked

Jay’s neck snapped back into place to look at the reporter “ Sorry Ms. Rey This is Bastion one of my Boy . say hi Bastion “

Not noticing the two foot gap between the two of them. Jay with the reflexes that all people get when they become Parents. Quickly grabbed his Daughter out of the air before she even started to fall.Once she was in his hands he quickly pulled her close to him “ God you are going give me a heart attack one of this days”  Jay said

“ Papa’s home” Molly said as she wrapped her arms around Jay’s Helmeted Head 

“ Yeah i’m home Sweety daddy’s home “ He said sweetly as he hugged his daughter back 

“ Hey Jay how was the Mission?” Fitz asked as he looked up toward Jay from his seat 

“ Yeah how did the mision go and why did it take you so long to get back ?” Usamu asked

“ Well that’s a long story see ‘ Just stopped mid Sentence as something Grabbed his Leg. So he looked down and saw Clay hugging it “ Hey Clay “

“ Where you go “ She said as she looked up to him with tears in her eyes

Haggar stood looking over her comatose husband. She had been starring there for the past few hours and wonder how this could have happened . They had taken ever precaution studied every battle that the paladins were in and even equipped the titan with weapon’s tailor made to handle Voltron and the Valkyrie at the same time  but when the snap dragon self destructed on top of the Titan it sealed his fate “ Oh my love what have they done to you” She asked herself

She quickly turned around and slashed at the person behind her only to swipe at empty air “ Who goes there show yourself ‘ She yelled To the empty room

“ What “ Haggar thought back to when she and Zarkon had died she remembered hearing a voice talking.But she had put that up to being on death's door. ‘ So it was  you i have to thank for our revival “

“ Yes it was me” The Voice said as a faint humanoid being started to form from purple quintessons  that was powering the lazuriz chamber that Zarkon was resting in  the figure had only defining feature was the two bright soul burning yellow eye “ My name is  Deceit and despite my name i’m here to help you again. ”

“ Why “ Haggar asked  not trusting this thing but she had to be weary seeing as this thing was just sitting on her husbands healing chamber 

 “ Because  every time you  drained a world of it’s quintessens and used it to fue you and your husband.It feed me and i wish to keep that relationship on going. So i’ll help you again by keeping your husband alive. Allura looked at the ship as she did one name came to mind “kronse” Allura said under her breath.Before hundreds and hundreds of Image flashed right in front of her mind causing her a massive and painful head that caused her to fall to the ground clutching her head 

“Princess !!” Everyone yelled in surprise 

“ What’s wrong” Coran asked worried as he helped Allura back to her feet 

“ I don’t know but something about that ship is causing me to see thin Ah “ She grabbed he head again as another set of flash happened

Anyway Lance also got some pretty good solid development in season 6?? I mean, just off the top of my head you’ve got:

Lance literally sacrificing himself to save Allura, that’s like?? Some prime heroism right there?? He saw that she was in danger and he put his life on the line, that’s huge. See also: how Allura cries for him, how she refuses to accept the fact that he may be gone, how she cradles him in her arms and stares at him so sweetly afterwards, ect. There’s a genuine connection there, and it’s been building for quite a few seasons now. 

Lance legitimately completely getting over his playboy phase--something everyone wanted--and acknowledging that his feelings for Allura were so much deeper and real. Even better, he never tells Allura, he never burdens her with his feelings to guilt her or make her uncomfortable. He instead acknowleges that she liked Lotor and instead tries to work through his own (supposedly unrequited) feelings in a very healthy way. 

And, above all else, he literally says his love for Allura makes him “want to be a better person.” That’s literally such a turnaround and easily some of the best character development he’s ever gotten. 

Lance seeing M&M as just a “nerd game” but then giving it a chance and actually having tons of fun with the character, which also leads to him having a genuinely good time. We get to see some more of Lance’s creativity with how he gets into character and loves acting (reminds me a bit of how his comic is narrated from his perspective as like this high fantasy adventure). At the end, he says to Allura, “We have a lot of fun together, don’t we?” And she happily agrees

Lance is the first one to tell Romelle that they can’t just open fire on Lotor’s ship because Allura’s on board and he’s not about to let her get hurt. 

When Lotor and Allura come back from their trip to the rift, Lance is the only paladin that pulls his bayard on them. It’s just Keith, Krolia, and then Lance that have their weapons at the ready. “Allura, step away from Lotor.” She gets understandably upset with him, but he does it because he knows her safety is at risk and he feels it’s the best option for her. 

You can tell Lance looks really concerned for Shiro when he’s being taken over by Haggar and tries to fight it. He’s also the one that regains his footing first and delegates orders--which the team immediates follows, “Allura and I will secure Lotor. Hunk, help Shiro. Everyone else, get down to the hanger and stop those guys.” 

Lance is also the only paladin with his bayard out at the time, and even when Shiro attacks him, he doesn’t fight back, and instead asks what’s going on--he knew Shiro was obviously going through something very bad and didn’t try to hurt him. 

Doesn’t question Keith’s leadership like he did in earlier seasons. Like, as soon as Keith asks if they’re ready to go, Lance’s response is just, “We’ve got this.” He puts his very immature one-sided rivalry aside and understands that, yes, Keith is a good leader, and he’s willing to accept that and follow him. 

This isn’t season 3 Lance very callously and maliciously accusing Keith of using the loss of his best friend to take over the team, or season 4 Lance complaining that Keith is ruining their parades. Like, there’s some very real growth and depth here.

Lance is the one who comforts Allura after everything that went down with Lotor, and he never once tries to make it about himself or uses it as some sort of opportunity to make a move on her. He’s focused enirely on her feelings and validating them, on making sure she knows none of this is her fault and that he’ll always be there for her. 

“Allura, it wasn’t just you who trusted Lotor. We all did.” “Let me tell you, as someone whose made a million mistakes, all you can do is get up and make it right.” Really, that heart to heart was so good and cathartic for her, you can tell by the way she hugs him and thanks him. This is Lance building up his teammates and being someone for them to lean on, and really just sort of living up to the legacy the Blue Lion prepared him for. 

Lance was very viscerally affected by hearing about what happened to Shiro--especially after that moment when he opened up to him in the previous season. At the time, Lance tried to reassure him by convincing him he’d be alright and getting him to try and rest--which isn’t by any means an awful or uncaring thing to do, but he regrets it nonetheless. Even when there wasn’t much more he could have done. 

“He...he tried to tell me, but I didn’t realize. I’m so sorry, Shiro. I--I didn’t know. I could’ve...” Lance cries for Shiro, Lance feels for Shiro, and he’s clearly someone who hates seeing his friends hurt and really takes that to heart. We then have this lovely little moment where Allura reaches out and silently reassues him. It mirrors how he was the one to comfort her when she was crying, and it’s just another subtle thing that hints at how their relationship has really been developing. These two seriously have amazing chemistry and character devlopment together, and it’s one of the highlights of the season. 

So yeah, I really don’t understand this sentiment where people seem to think that season is somehow objectively bad for Lance, or how he just got no content or character development. There was honestly some really solid and well thought out progression for his character, even if it might not neccessarily be what some fans wanted to see--it’s still very much there.

so season 8 was a shitstorm

DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS. HUGE RANT AHEAD.

First, we need to talk about Allurance. So few were rooting for it, and so few were actually expecting it, which made it even more disappointing than it was in the pure essence of the show. It was poorly developed and made practically no sense at all. Lance was after Allura since season 1 and every time he made any romantic advance on her, she shut him down, damaging his self esteem and fueling his insecurities.

The first time she ever showed any kind of romantic interest in him (s7 ‘blush’ scene) was out of the blue, had no development, and most of all, made no sense whatsoever. So, now Allura’s agreeing to go on a date with him as the first notable event in the season, which, again, made no sense and seemingly came out of some kind of Senseless Abyss. Originally, she didn’t even seem enthusiastic about going with him until Romelle encouraged her. And then the dinner, which felt forced and gave no extra insight to the characters except that Lance felt uncomfortable with his childhood stories being revealed to Allura (again, she fuels his insecurity). Even worse, Lance dropping the big “I love you” on their first date was from nowhere and completely abandoned any sense of his character the season hadn’t already stripped from him.

Worse, Allura wasn’t what Lance needed. The show is made for children, if I’m not mistaken, meaning it should give at least some lessons to kids about how life is. In that, you don’t always get the girl, and definitely not by pining after her for years. Allura didn’t do anything for (much less ‘develop’) Lance’s character. Lance needed someone who could empower him, aid him in overcoming his insecurities and helping him to develop as a person and bring out his positive qualities. Instead, she stripped him down to a tiny part of his character and made him solely for the purpose of being a love interest. If Allurance had actually been developed and made Allura a character who checked the boxes in that she is what Lance needs, I’d be far less infuriated and more just disappointed that it wasn’t a ship I prefer. Honestly, I could go on more about how annoyed I am by the Allurance clusterfuck but I’m going to show some mercy.

Second point. The characters. I mean, the characters are what make Voltron what it is, right? The characters are what the audience fell in love with at the start. But season 8 completely ruined any idea of that. Threw it all out the window. All logic seemed to depart the writers when actually writing the characters. Keith’s character and style was just... not. He was a lot softer than he was in previous seasons, which was nice to see, but there was pretty much nothing that led to him acting that way. A random change of heart isn’t exactly Keith’s (or anyone’s???) style.

Pidge was decent this season but had no development yet did get some good ‘look-at-me-I’m-smart’ moments (which, let’s be honest, we have seen too much of before). Hunk, again, was reduced to a fat joke and ‘likes cooking’. Shiro was practically nonexistent this season, which was one of the things I was really afraid of in the build-up to the season. Shiro’s irrelevance was so obvious that it made him relevant. And just for the brownie points, they throw in a wedding scene with some random background character and a good old mlm kiss to spice things up. Then there’s Allura. Who, to be honest, hasn’t changed much as a person through the course of the show. The only real change we saw in Allura was that she suddenly started to have feelings for Lance.

The person everybody’s talking about (and who am I to break a trend?), however, is Lance. This season, in my eyes, didn’t even include Lance.  The ‘boy from Cuba’ on the screen was not any Lance I’ve ever seen. By halfway through the first episode, there was practically none of Lance left, and no clear reason for his abandonment of character other than Allura. His inner insecurity vanishes, any cockiness or arrogance disappeared, and he had little to no ‘funny’ and/or ‘dumb one’ lines. He was kind, calm, emotional and mostly collected throughout. Which is definitely a part of Lance’s character, but only a small segment.  

And the plot? Didn’t understand about nine-tenths of it. In fairness, it may have been because I was pretty much bored out of my mind and stopped focusing, but either way, it was boring as fuck. It was frustrating, confusing and made almost no sense. From the random fight scenes to the overabundance of mechas and robots, I was done from around the fourth episode. I was confused for the entire thing.

We all already knew that Altean Lance was quite a popular concept, but not like this. Never like this. First of all, for about the billionth time I’ve said in this post, it makes zero sense. Is Lance part Altean now? Does he have any special powers or just the markings, an imprint on Allura’s unfortunate permanence on his character? So he can be sad about her for the rest of his life, and never move on? And for him to go on to be a fucking farmer and his whole life to revolve around Allura? That is not the Lance that we knew for seven seasons. I call bullshit. I’m genuinely really pissed off about this because Lance was such a fan favourite and they did him so dirty, just like they did us all dirty.  

Finally, the whole thing felt so odd and disjointed. It didn’t feel like a season of Voltron, it felt like one huge mess. The characters’ interactions, of the few that actually mattered outside of Allurance were weird and felt forced. Even the Klance-y moments felt slightly wrong in that Lance went to seek out the one person on the team he’s always struggled to get along with to have a heart-to-heart. The episodes all seemed to blur into one mix of bullshit and there were a shit ton of loose ends/unexplained bits of plot from both this season and previous ones that leave us all clueless as to what became of certain characters, why some events went the way they did, etc. The rest of Voltron, for the most part, managed to lead on well and keep the characters’ personalities consistent (even if they weren’t being developed). This was a shitshow.

By the end, with all the shit it had thrown at us, like going in Honerva’s mind, the fucking Altean markings, everyone being a shitty character and Allura dying having no lasting repercussions except turning Lance into some ridiculous stagnant idiot, I pretty much lost all sense of caring. To be honest, they could’ve ended it at the end of season 7 (minus the “It’s an Altean!!11!!” thing) and everyone would’ve been happier.

While I hated a lot about the season, there were a few things I did enjoy:

- Pidge with bunchies and she looked great this season

- Keith being soft (irritatingly without reason)

- Bae Bae

- Getting to know the MFEs (and Kinkade’s vlog/passion being shown)

- Colleen Holt (and her liking ‘Plance’)

- Veronica/Axca interactions

- Matt Holt

- The animation improved a bit??

- Ponytail Keith

- Shiro did get a happy ending, no matter how shittily done

reasons you should not watch voltron or support the showrunners:

(feel free to add on, dumb comments will be blocked)

- mistreating the characters of color by a variety of means physically

- queerbaiting: mlm relationship (adam/shiro) only for one of the men to be killed for no reason other than shock value, and the relationship never being explicit in the first place

- queerbaiting: mlm relationship (keith/lance) by tagging videos with klance and using them in thumbnails to get views

- using female characters as plot devices (romelle, krolia) just to throw them away

- portraying the “crazy homicidal lesbian” trope, killing both characters off anyway (ezor, zethrid)

- forcing a black coded female character (allura) to throw away her entire connection to her decimated home and royal lineage for a hetero relationship

- having above mentioned character fall in love with someone who committed mass genocide (lotor) and thus breaking her heart

- using a larger character who’s also a character of color primarily for food jokes for the majority of the show (hunk)

- giving little to no growth to the above mentioned character in comparison to the thin and white ones despite us knowing he has good diplomatic skills that are never really explored

- redeeming one of the villains who coincidentally has a hetero love interest while the lesbians were killed off (acxa)

- torturing and killing a disabled, asian, gay character (shiro) and only reviving him for toy sales despite saying that “they can’t just go back and change the story line” when asked about other issues

- having a character of color be mocked and laughed at for being in love only for him to be crushed that she’s in love with someone else (lance, allura)

- reducing above character to a rebound in a hetero relationship with someone who had no interest in him for six seasons; a huge disservice to both of them

- giving the majority of the show’s character arcs to the two white characters and essentially ignoring the others unless it’s to hurt them (pidge, keith)

- dedicating an entire episode that was seemingly supposed to be fun and lighthearted at first to mocking and calling a character of color dumb (lance)

- saying that despite all of what the paladins have been through they aren’t even friends, which goes against the entire concept of the show

- throwing away developed potential relationships and friendships for hetero relationships that came out of no where and had no positive buildup

- giving happy endings only to the hetero relationships (hunk/shay, colleen/sam, keith/acxa, lance/allura, matt/unknown alien girlfriend)

- supporting predatory and pedophilic ships out of fear of losing fans

- ignoring all criticism generally regarding the lgbt “rep” but always having time for praise

- treating lgbt rep as a spoiler despite it having no relevance to the plot line and never being explicit in the show

- having so many different plot lines going at once that everything is rushed and most development is through time skips, leaving literally nothing to enjoy

- hiring a bunch of white guys to voice characters of color

tl;dr: unless a character is straight and white the writers do not care about their development or happiness, nor do they care about the viewers of the show as long as it makes them money.

that being said, most of us (the stans) are sticking around for fanon only, because we’ve gotten attached to these characters and what they could’ve been. do not attack people who choose to watch season 8 (preferably not on netflix) because it’s the final season and that should be understandable.

Songs For Soulmates *Plance* Fifteen|Pidge

Sorry this is so late! Anyway, I finally got myself an AO3 account, so I’ll try to post this on there as soon as I figure out how it works. Without further ado, the chapter!

“Guys, bad news!” Pidge’s brother, who had just finished setting up the lights and was now taking a break, ran up to the stage where Voltron was practicing. It was finally the night of the concert, just after lunchtime, and since the band knew and had practiced all the other songs for the day, Pidge had taught Lance the vocals for Clairvoyant, since everyone else knew their parts. They were just about to start practicing it, but it seemed Matt had other ideas.

“What is it?” Shiro asked, and flipped his sheet music back to the first page. “So, based on social media posts about the Voltron/Galra Beats concerts tonight, I wrote a code that calculated how many people were going to each concert, and...”

“And?” Lance looked on the edge of his seat. His eyes were wide and his mouth turned upward in a hopeful smile.

“Well, see... the results are not great.”

“Just how bad are they?” Keith asked. He put down his guitar and walked up to look over Matt’s shoulder.

“The ratio is about, well, 4 to 10.”

“Are we the ten?” Romelle asked hopefully.

“No, we’re the four.”

“Itshay,” Lance muttered. Allura nodded. “Quiznak.”

“Well, it’s not the end of the world, I guess...” Pidge trailed off. It most definitely was the end of the world. Ever since she’d joined the band, they’d had awful trouble coming up with their new song, encountered a new rival band, and now they were going to be second best. There was no way this was a coincidence, Voltron had been the top band for a year straight before Pidge had joined! Maybe she was bad luck.

“It is! We’re doomed! Time to panic!” Hunk yelled, and sunk to his knees in despair, accidentally knocking over one of his drums.

“Maybe not,” Keith said, “I’ve got an idea, but you’re not gonna like it, Lance.”

“I don’t like half your ideas and yet we do them anyway. Your point?”

“Right. Anyway, everyone except Lance knows their part for the new song by heart, yes? So why don’t we make a show out of it and perform the new single? We announce it to the public this afternoon. Then those numbers are bound to change.”

“WHAT? But I barely know my part!” Lance protested. He sputtered for a few more seconds before settling to glare at Keith. Pidge scootched a little bit closer to him and took his hand in hers, squeezing it lightly. “That’s not a bad idea. You guys can practice and I’ll help Lance with the lyrics. Okay?”

“Okay,” Lance mumbled.

Calling all Voltron fans! Tonight, yes, tonight, during our big concert, we’ll be performing our new single, Clairvoyant! This is a song that has never been released to the public, the one that brought Lance and his soulmate Katie (better known as Pidge, you all know her!) together, and the one that will definitely make this a night to be remembered! Tickets are running out fast, so be sure to grab one before they all disappear! We hope to see you all soon,

Shiro tapped the “post” button one last time and grinned, “there. That’ll definitely lure them in. Lance, how are you feeling?”

“Better. Pidge is a good teacher.” Pidge smiled. Lance had been only a little bit too worried and jittery, but it certainly hadn’t been anything that a few hugs and maybe a kiss couldn’t fix.

“Is everyone ready to play it then?” Shiro asked, slightly surprised. He clearly hadn’t been expecting Lance to be ready.

“I think so,” Hunk was smiling, “and I also may have helped out my own way.”

“How so?” Allura asked. Hunk grinned, “Shay is coming! And you know how she is, having tons of friends, so... she may or may not have pretty much been gathering a huge group of kids from school to drive down and watch.”

“That’s awesome, Hunk!” Krolia patted him approvingly on the head and then tossed a sliver of beef jerky to Kosmo before eating one herself.

“Seems like everyone’s ready,” Keith said, and nodded, “so let’s do this.”

Hello, Haddock! Now that Voltron (sadly) ended, how would you rank the seasons? Also, could you tell how many times you've rewatched them?

Hey there, friend! WAY happy to chat Voltron and all its seasons!

Unlike most fandom culture, I’m not a chronic rewatcher, and the default assumption is that I’ve only seen any show once. It’s rare for me to see shows more than once, honestly, even ones I love. I certainly will be watching VLD more times, but because of my normal watching habits, I’ve seen a large portion of the show only once. I’ve seen S1 probably about 5 times, S2 thrice, S3-4 twice, and S5+ once. I’ve seen “The Last Stand” from S7 twice.

These are rankings based somewhat upon my emotional attachments and not simply objective elements like narrative structure! XD I already know my preferences are going to be different than lots of people in the VLD fandom, haha. These rankings are also based on memory, which is pretty strong admittedly for VLD, but it leaves room to change with a rewatch.

EIGHTH PLACE: VLD Season 8

Let’s be clear: I don’t dislike Season 8 and there’s much I enjoy. Give it up for S8 love!!! Standout episodes to me include “Launch Date,” “The Prisoner’s Dilemma,” and “Day Forty-Seven.” The women going shopping together and Pidge dressing as 1980s Darrell Stoker made my life. Not to mention… it was fun spending time with the MFEs; they didn’t take a disproportionate amount of time, but gave us good moments to make us love them. I’m thankful for the S8 ending giving us both a sense of wrap-up for the plot conflicts, but also looking forward to what our Paladins will do to rejuvenate the galaxy. There’s much I’m thankful for with S8.

That said, S8 isn’t my jam as much as other seasons. I’m not much of a shipper and I wasn’t into the Allurance, nor did I get pulled into the magic-heavy plot conflict with Haggar and her Alteans. And while S7 does give great screen time to Allura, it felt a little less like an ensemble cast and more like a spotlight on her. Enemies’ minds changed too fast for me to feel realistic, and the magic-wonky plot didn’t feel as gripping and intense as S7. It’s the reason I’m placing S8 here: from my own preferences, I attached with other seasons more.

SEVENTH PLACE: VLD Season 5

For whatever reason, S5 didn’t make as much of an impression on me as other seasons. I wasn’t as invested in concepts like “Kral Zera” and “White Lion.” Given as S5 is an odd numbered season in the middle portion of Voltron, it has an innate disadvantage: it’s written in all but name as the first half of a season, which means story arc ending payoffs wouldn’t happen until S6. I also feel like S5 is where plot writing is at one of its most tangled or muddied, given as there’s lots being juggled and introduced conflict-wise and lore-wise and universe-wise and character-wise.

However, S5 - like all seasons - gives us cool stuff. We got Matt (one of my favorite characters) participating in an adventure, lots of Lotor screentime, and a callout to 1980s DOTU that I never thought they’d be able to turn into a good episode (“White Lion”). And!!! We get to meet!!! KROLIA!!!

SIXTH PLACE: VLD Season 3

I have particularly fond attachment to S3. This is the season where I started getting actively involved in Voltron fandom discourse, giving my own take on Project Kuron theories. This is the season that gave us the first glimpse of the Classic Voltron formation - Keith in Black, Lance in Red, Pidge in Green, Allura in Blue, Hunk in Yellow. I felt a thrill go through me as Keith, for the first time, said “Form Voltron!” Also… Lance really stepping up to show his leadership potential??? So good. And this is the season where we meet Lotor, another long-anticipated character… and oh my goodness is his character introduction gold. So there’s lots of stuff I hold strong affinity for in S3.

The reason I have to rank Season 3 back here is because it’s more about the Paladins floundering around than anything else. It’s meant to create a new sense of chaos and instability… their leader Shiro is gone, and now there are new unexpected threats like Lotor to handle. However, at the same time, since half of the season is just the Paladins floundering around not knowing how to work together, it makes me less attached to particular episodes. None of the episodes are favorites or standouts to me on their own. There’s lots of cool moments throughout S3, but I think the only episode I notably emotionally attach to is “The Journey.” But still? Good season!

FIFTH PLACE: VLD Season 1

I can’t believe I have this amazing season all the way back here. I want it to be higher, except that I do have to rank other seasons above this one. 

Season 1 is what gets everything started. It sets the stage for what Voltron’s all about, teaching us about lions and robeasts and Zarkon and the Galaxy Garrison and all that good stuff from 1980s nostalgia… all the while creating a new vibe and energy to the franchise. In retrospect, S1 feels much calmer and less high-stakes than the rest of the series (especially post S2). However, it’s a solid season with good episodes that never feel less solid and good. We get great Hunk material with him finding conviction; great Shiro and Pidge moments as they share different worries over the abduction; hilarious Keith and Lance clashes; lots and lots and lots of good things. It’s a very solid season, especially once we launch off Arus.

FOURTH PLACE: VLD Season 6

If you want to know how tight my season rankings are to each other, S6 was almost listed second place.

I attach to specific episodes in particular for S6. I love the visuals in “Razor’s Edge.” I died howling with laughter in “Monsters & Mana.” I fell into so many emotional feels regarding Keith and Shiro in “The Black Paladins.” We get one of the all-time best emotional, action-oriented episodes of VLD… and one of the most amazing, hysterical filler episodes in S6. Despite being seven episodes long, S6 is an incredible ride and adventure start to end. It’s hard to believe so much occurred in that amount of time!

There’s hoards of great stuff in this season. We get the Kuron arc resolved, with lots of emotional content between Keith and Shiro. We get the Lotor arc resolved, learning whether or not he can be trusted, with great Lotor and Allura time. We get Keith returning to the Paladins. We get the introduction of Romelle, which all DOTU lovers have been waiting for forever.

THIRD PLACE: VLD Season 4

I have to put VLD S4 here because of its emotional power. There are damned AMAZING moments this season, alongside some of my favorite episodes and moments of all time. I know I and some of the other fans aren’t huge on “The Voltron Show!” But fuck it, guys, S4 gave us “Reunion” and “A New Defender”!!!

Matt is a delight this season, from his first meeting of Allura, to his tour around the Castle of Lions with Pidge, to his technological connections with his sister and Hunk, to his participation in the Rebels’ fighting forces. We also get some of the funniest moments for me in Voltron, between learning how to milk Kaltenecker and seeing HOW Pidge finally managed to rig up the video game system.

Then there’s the opposite end of the emotional spectrum. “Reunion” is the single most emotional episode in all of Voltron for me. Even though I’d seen screencaps of Matt prior to watching S4, I felt as shocked and heartbroken as Pidge to come to his gravestone. There’s so much POWER to this gravestone scene; it’s one of the moments that resonates with me the most even after I’ve finished the whole show. It might even be my Number One FAVORITE moment in the entire show. It’s not my place to analyze that scene here, but DAMN. 

Furthermore, the climax with the battle of Naxzela was INTENSE, with Keith almost sacrificing himself getting me screaming. That was such a great battle and climactic moment in VLD. This was a great culminating moment, in which the series has officially built up from a small team to a universe-wide conflict.

We get standout moments with Keith being badass with the blades, Matt taking initiative, Pidge seeking out her family, Allura helping Voltron flee the gravity field, Kuron becoming increasingly more suspicious. VLD S4 ramps everything up from the emotions to the excitement, resulting in an awesome and intense six episodes.

SECOND PLACE: VLD Season 7

It’s really hard for me to put this as second place instead of first place. I originally had it in first place. I want it to be first place. I LOVE the second half of S7 so much. This is, possibly, my favorite season from an emotional standpoint because wow.

It’s all-around outstanding. S7 showed us how far the Paladins have come as heroes; they operate with great teamwork, skill, and professionalism that is oh-so-cool to see on screen. They’re still the characters we love and cherish, but they’ve grown SO MUCH since their first days on Voltron. This is fully-fledged heroes doing fully-fledged battles and it’s GREAT.

S7 gives us standout moments to so many characters, including Hunk, Shiro, Sam, Colleen, Veronica, and Keith. We even get some good adventure time with Romelle! And as far as character interactions are concerned, we get touching moments between Keith and Lance, Keith and Hunk, and so many other combinations.

The story raises the stakes to higher levels than ever before, with an emotional and exciting conquest of Earth. There’s nothing more horrible and high-stakes to audiences than a homefront war. We feel extreme pain for Hunk with fears for his family, and Shiro for the loss of Adam. We feel the great sense of danger and desperation starting with “The Last Stand.” We feel the drama of a long and extended climax fighting for Earth’s freedom, including moments where the Paladins control the Lions outside their body (so cool), Shiro commands the ATLAS (SO cool), and the ATLAS also transforms into a fighting robot (SO FREAKING COOL!). This has some of the most exciting, badass stuff of Voltron ever. I love it.

Highlight episodes for me are “The Last Stand” (two episodes without the Paladins about Earth fighting for its freedom? this was fucking amazing), “Trial By Fire,” and “Lions’ Pride.” Essentially - all of the second half of the season.

FIRST PLACE: Season 2

Season 2 is probably THE MOST solid season in all of VLD. 

Almost every episode is good, memorable, fun, lovable, enjoyable, classic. It highlights the full ensemble cast. It creates an EXTREMELY exciting, exhilarating, fun climax. It is a strong narrative season, cleanly and proudly finishing the first 26 episode long arc for VLD. This season shows VLD at its best. Since it consistently delivers, there’s nowhere else S2 belongs except the top.

We get great Shiro time, what with his arc spent learning to trust Black… leading to him being a badass unlocking the Lion’s wings and taking Zarkon’s bayard. We get great Pidge time, whether it’s her freaking out over video games or drawing deeper into the beauty of the world - technology and biology both. We get great Keith time, with him fighting for answers in the Blade of Marmora and infiltrating Zarkon’s base in an extremely dangerous mission. We get great Hunk time, between unlocking his Lion’s claws and taking initiative in the Weblum adventure. We get great Lance moments, where he shows us he truly can be a sharpshooter for the team. We get great Allura moments, especially in how she fought against Haggar in the finale. This season rocks it for EVERY Paladin.

Not only does every individual Paladin get good spotlighting, but S2 also rocks it with character interactions. How Allura handles Keith being Galra is a memorable moment of character development for both of them. How Hunk and Keith interact in “The Belly of the Weblum” is a delight. How Shiro loses his cool with Slav is hysterical. I can never complain to Lance and Hunk combinations, like in “The Depths.” And of course every episode focused on Keith and Shiro gives us good feels.

Standout episodes for S2 include “The Ark of Taujeer” (THE COLORS), “The Blade of Marmora,” “Blackout,” “Space Mall.” I cannot believe I watched an episode where the character dressed as space pirates and rode on a flying cow to escape a mall cop. That happened. It’s a delight. And S2 kept rocking it with the humor, down to Pidge creating all her Paladin buddies out of space junk and imitating them. But S2 also gives us some of the most memorable moments of VLD storytelling, what with “The Blade of Marmora.” That episode is a staple for many reasons. Not to mention… all of S2 works together cohesively for the long-term arc structure.

And then there’s the climax. So well-done. So exciting. So immersive. So intense. So cool. So badass. Great colors, great flow, great plot, great everything start to end. I was in a THRILL at the end of S2 because this climax was so unbelievably fun. In retrospect it’s got competition with S7, and S7 probably takes the cake now… but fuck it, S2′s end will always be awesome.

Every single season in VLD gives me something to be excited about. There are things to love each step of the journey. I’m thankful for every episode from S1 to S8. 

What a ride this journey has been.

Hance Youtubers AU:

After the war, Lance decides to make a YouTube account. He basically make videos about everything that cross his minds. His videos are really good, and he got a huge number of subscribers and viewers. He visits Coran in Altean, goes on shopping with Romelle and Nadia, joins Keith and his lesbian on missions, does crazy stuff with Pidge and has chaotic family parties. Of course, Hunk is included 50% of his videos. Lance´s fans loves when he and Hunk has cooking episodes, so he encourages Hunk to make his own YouTube. Hunk is a little shy at the start but then he starts enjoying making videos. He cooks, build cars and other stuff, visits other planets, make “tea videos” with Romelle. Lance and Hunk basically becomes the power couple of the internet.

The town of Plaht City is peaceful.

Sure, it can be a little weird sometimes- but most of it Hunk doesn't even notice. The only reason he knows about half of the weird sightings and odd things going on out in the desert is because his friends and devoted loyal customers, Pidge and Matt are always eager to talk about the subject.

Hunk's not really interested. He's just content to run his bakery, the Lion's Den. It's a two man operation at the moment- it's just him and his part timer, a slightly odd college student named Romelle. He makes it work, but it's clear that he could probably use some extra help. Unfortunately for him, he's also kind of picky when it comes to his employees. It took him like, two months after he'd first opened to even hire Romelle.

At least he's built up a loyal customer base! It doesn't hurt that Plaht City's oddball mayor, Coran Smythe is apparently a huge fan of his danishes, a fact which he tells everyone at every chance he gets. His niece Allura and her nephew Lotor come in basically every day, the former stopping by after picking up the latter from school. There's Pidge and Matt, of course, but he already mentioned them. And Lance is always hanging around, but that's a given because he's pretty sure his best friend is addicted to the ungodly sweet coffee concoction that is on the menu entirely because of him.

So things are going pretty great, all told!

Still, when a customer shows up five minutes before closing, part of Hunk can't help but heave an irritated sigh. He doesn't mind, necessarily- but there's no way to tell if this last minute customer is the type who'll linger or not. At least he's kind of cute, in a vaguely mysterious way. It's the combination of his dark hair and pale skin, plus the leather jacket and biker gloves that does it.

His eyes are like nothing he's seen before. He didn't even know people could have purple eyes.

He takes a moment to consider the menu- his eyes lingering extra long on the prices. He finally settles on a black coffee and one of the day old cookies that Hunk sells for half price. He pulls out a crumpled five dollar bill, and it suddenly sort of hits him that this might be all the money this guy even has.

He asks if there's a good place to camp out around here. Hunk points him in the direction of the campground his uncle runs. Turns out he's new in town. He says his name is Keith, asks if there's any place around here that's looking for temp workers that doesn't mind if they don't have a full high school education.

He's not sure what prompts him to do so, but Hunk asks him if he'd like to work here. Keith blinks, stares at him for a long few seconds- and then slowly shrugs. Sure, but he doesn't know much about baked goods.

The Lion's Den has a new employee the following morning.

Okay, so I read through a bunch of different spoiler free, S7 articles, and I’m going to give my opinions on things I read, and I did take some screenshots of different articles, so this ends up getting kind of long because I am a long-winded person. (Edit: I lied. This got super long.)

First of all, the consensus is that this season is going to be a wild one that focuses more on personal interactions and relationships, which is awesome! 

What we can see from the two above parts of an article (or a couple I can’t remember at this point where I screencapped what from -10 for research habits), is the truth we’ve always known that family is the real story behind Voltron. Lauren said it was about love. It absolutely is. I’m excited to see that this concept is really taking hold here, especially since we’ll be seeing all different kinds of love and family. 

As much as I love my ships, I love the story between everyone has a whole even more. To see this directly is going to be amazing.

Just throwing this out there, I’m like 95% sure they’re referring to Lance here. He’s easily the most sacrificial one of the team, and we know that Jeremy had a hard time voicing something because it was mostly crying. I think we found what it is.

While I’m a bit sad that the girls get pushed aside a bit, I always remember that it doesn’t mean they’re not there, not important, not doing stuff. They are. I get the feeling that they’re not going to go on the same kind of emotional journey as all the boys are this time around, which is kind of telling? 

I’m okay with Shiro not being a Paladin anymore. In fact, I think it’s the best possible thing for his character. He was the perfect leader and comfortable as a Paladin, and the best way to show what a character is made of is to put them in a situation where they’re not in their element entirely. So I am SO excited for Shiro this season.

Also, Hunk focus? Hell yeah. And my little, biased shipper heart did backflips at the last part involving Lance and Keith, though with the acknowledgement that the ‘crush or two’ thing may not at all have to do with them and it could just be about being leader and right-hand of Voltron. Plus...

I’m not quite sure I hold much value in an article that can’t spell Allura’s name right, but if Lance is a focus this season, and Allura’s not, but they show signs of a stronger bond...? 1 + 1 ≠ 2 in this case. Keep in mind, I’m not saying that Lance’s endgame isn’t Allura, I’m just saying that there’s some contradictions here.

Also while on the topic of specific characters...

I saw someone saying ‘oh look Shiro IS going to be a Paladin’. No. No he’s not. This is in reference to Season 3/4 when Shiro returning cut into Keith being Black Paladin. Of course we know the REAL Shiro wouldn’t have pushed Keith and stepped on his toes as much as Kuron did, so I think he’s going to feel bad about that. There may be a little awkwardness to it, but I think we’re going to see Shiro really actively be pushing Keith to lead, taking a step back. It’s what he wanted originally. 

I really, genuinely think that the line up for the lions with this team is final. However, it could hint towards people taking over for them in the future, or moments where they pilot other lions, but not permanently.

This is SUPER interesting. This roadtrip to Earth is going to focus a LOT on interpersonal relationships and I am HERE for that in every sense of the word. I’m very curious about the characters who’ll pull apart, since I honestly can’t see it being the core team, but that doesn’t leave much room, does it? It’s not going to be Keith and his mom. It won’t be Allura and Coran. I COULD see Shiro kind of purposely pulling himself away from the others a bit, including Keith (kind of a stepping off and ‘go be great’ thing like he did with Pidge in S1E1). These don’t HAVE to be negative things. I can’t see it being Keith and anyone, because he’s been gone for a long time from his point of view. So I don’t know.

Gimme all the matchups. Gimme Keith and everyone (since he’s been gone so long). And I genuinely mean everyone. Gimme Keith and Pidge on their field trip or something too. Don’t let them be the Zuko and Toph of the group. ALSO Hunk and Allura. I wanna see them be awesome together. Hunk, Allura, and Romelle side trip please!

Plot lines long thought abandoned. Okay, my shipper brain went towards Klance. I’m sorry, it did. My logical brain, however, says that this is not in reference to that at all. I think that might have to do with Hunk and Shay, whether to say ‘yes this is a thing’ or ‘no sorry but we’ll acknowledge this for you’.  

The second part, character development people have been hoping for with certain PaladinS. Okay, this one does scream relationship-wise to me, but it also CAN still be platonic. It really, really can. I really think this is in reference to either Lance/Keith, or Lance/Allura. And yes, it could genuinely be either one of them. 

This just is sort of reinforcing to him that they’re talking about Lance/Allura, Keith/Lance, or potentially, maybe even Keith/Allura but the last one is less likely to me (that’s the key here, because even watching through again, Keith and Allura being together romantically doesn’t make sense to me, but that’s a personal interpretation. You may very well see something I don’t.)

The way paragraph structure works is you group like things together to make a single point. If something is in the same paragraph, it should be related to other things in it. First episode in season 1 we established that Keith and Lance were going to be tied to one-another’s stories in some form. We also established that Lance was attracted to Allura (he was flirting with her). 

‘Arguably been on that path all along’. They think people are going to argue about it. It’s a romantic ship one way or another, and it has been planned since day one. No amount of screaming, threatening, or crying from a loud, small, nasty part of the fanbase has changed a thing.

I actually can’t find the article where this one came from. Now, first, we need to look at what could possibly be seen as a controversy, since that has a negative connotation to it. It’s also a very interesting word choice. Is it that the majority of the online community is going to lose their shit? Or is it the parents of kids watching it might stop and say ‘wait, what’? 

I genuinely get the feeling that this is either going to have to do with a relationship, or a personal sexuality arc. 

I think if it had to do with Shiro and Adam, they’d say it. It’s not a spoiler anymore. We KNOW they’re going to dive into it more. 

The online fandom is going to be generally super excited for LGBT+ portrayals on this show. It wouldn’t be a controversy at all to show Adashi (I like this one more because Adam called him Takashi), or for Lance to have a bi-arc.

Klance, maybe a little more-so, because shipping in general can be very touchy (if the backlash of calling Adam abusive says anything). It’s still possible though.

Also as much as I don’t want to say it, that small, loud, nasty portion of the fandom that flips out may do just that if Allura and Lance end up being a thing, but honestly, I don’t think either of these last two things would be considered a controversy.

Keep in mind, the core audience of Voltron is not teenage/adult fans online. It’s created as a family show, meaning that it absolutely is made to appeal to older and younger audiences a like, but the core audience are kids.

Kids who don’t spend time on tumblr/twitter freaking out over ship, and their parents that are going to be spending the money on merchandise.

I think many people would be excited to portrayals of LGBT+ relationships, we know that there are those parents that will swear off the show because of it. We know there are people that will scream about it ‘forcing representation in everything’ as if media content in and of itself hasn’t always been informed by political or personal opinions and issues (spoiler alert: it has). 

The ONLY thing I can think that would be considered controversial (which I don’t personally agree with but here we are) would be more LGBT+ rep. Maybe it is just Shiro and Adam’s relationship, maybe it’s Klance, maybe it’s just a bi-arc for Lance. Maybe it’s something else. 

It’s all about perspective. 

OKAY SO THIS PART. THIS PART HERE. They’re going to spend like at least a year and a half getting to Earth. Holy shit. There’s so much room for character moments here and growing together in ways that they couldn’t in the castle. The castleship was HUGE. I mean, the lions are massive and they’re always shown as teeny-tiny compared to it. There was lots of space to get away from one another. Camping in lions? Nope. All together all the time. This is absolutely Why relationships are going to be front and center.

It also means that they’ll be gone from Earth for two years at minimum. That’s insane.

Time itself playing a narrative is amazing too! I get the feeling that everyone’s going to think Voltron is gone. There are going to be aliens on Earth. They also had blueprints nad plans for Altean tech and they had examples of Galra stuff as well. People think Voltron is gone, but they’re not going to completely lose hope. In fact, Voltron will be like martyrs probably. Almost a legend again. ‘Legendary defender’. 

There was also one saying that Voltron might almost be outdated, which is wild but makes so much sense. Lotor made his own that almost beat them, after all (with Allura’s help). Haggar’s been to Oriadne too. Voltron is going to need some kind of boost in the end to go back to being the legendary defender it always was.

And finally...

My Personal Opinions

On s8 / finale of Voltron: Legendary Defenders---

- The 1st ep was awful... If anything, a Kallura slow burn with sweet, tender, angsty moments in between, would have been better than literally throwing it in our faces for nearly the entirety of the first episode. This isn't a Kallura bash at all. Just saying, 75% of their romance was depicted in the first 45 mins just to get their plot/arc started, but it could have been written better.

- The second to last ep was a fantastic ploy by the writers, and here's why:

There are literally infinite universes with infinite realities, all existing at the same time in the VLD-verse. If you have a particular ship or fanfic (or etc) regarding VLD, it is, technically, 100% canon. Because theoretically, in one of their realities, it's a thing.

Regardless of feasibility, or ridiculousness, it's canon.

- Which also addresses the whole post-Voltron Lance pairings: literally anything is possible guys, may you all sail towards the rising sun.

- I personally am a Plance / Pidgance fan myself, and was on board with the PIE movement because I could totally see it and thought it was so freaking precious and was so excited to see it play out...

In the vlog episode, with Pidge's mom, we see her making several referances to loving "plants" a term used by Plance shippers because it sounds the same. And in the first episode, Colleen makes a remark about Pidge being 15 and unable to make huge decisions without asking her mom. Even if a year has passed, she remains 16. And even though it's a cartoon, I felt the writers wanted to be clear about consent / legality issues. There's been so much fire already about that issue, they probably thought best to not add any fuel and steer clear of it, deflecting any criticism / hate for it, and go the safe route.

- ALL OF THAT being said, VOLTRON ISN'T ABOUT THE SHIPS. 90% of reactions I see, are about ships. Let's please focus on, idk, the other, substantial and meaningful plots/ friendships/ life lessons/ badassery/ hilarity

- I am LIVID that Lotor didn't get a redeeming arc. Fucking Zarkon, the main antagonist for half the damn series, was shown as having his actions dictated and his mind altered by an interdimensional substance. He showed grief for his actions, made amends to his commarades, and helped Voltron move forward in the end.

HONERVA, even... the restoration of the realities wouldn't have been possible without her willingness. Granted, she destroyed them in the first place, all in search of love and acceptance, and was only able to bring them back with Allura's sacrifice... she had to /choose/ to do so, to bring them back, and by doing so, redeemed herself.

Lotor could have been brought back, for real, and been redeemed. But no. He remained a vision, a lost cause, and a name to be remembered in pity.

(Though we did get to see him as a beautiful, damn smart child, so that almost halfway made up for it.)

- The characters I wanted to see more of? Like Romelle?? They could've had a few one liners sprinkled throughout the season, but were given maybe 3 with a few background appearances, and it left me wanting more.

- Storyboard pacing was oddly timed

- I feel like Lance and Pidge would've goofed around at the fair like they did at the mall and I was a little sad to see they didn't

- There is a massive underappreciation for how Hunk reprimanded the dog for trying to eat the food, then immediately followed it with, "I'm sorry for yelling, I'll make you dog treats later." ❤

- My favorite episode is the video blog. Very creative, expertly put together, fun enough to give you a break from the season's heaviness, but still had enough to move the plot along. It's right behind the DnD rpg ep, for me.

- I'm not mad Allura died... Hear me out!

If there was anyone in the infinitesimal universe who wouldn't hesitate to put others before herself, its Allura. Although it is always hard to see a beautiful and beloved character die, her sacrifice was the grandest gesture anyone could have EVER done, and it serves her memory right. She did the most powerful thing anyone had done (or COULD have done) in the series: she restored the fabric of the infinite space time continuum. They didn't do her dirty. They immortalized her in the stars. And that's what our lovely space princess deserves ❤

- Would've liked to see even a glimpse of Shiro just BLUSHING at his new love interest but ok just show them already married lol

- Pidge in pigtails, Pidge watching old Voltron, Pidge giving up KBP for Allura, Pidge fighting with her mom, Pidge making a lil Chip AI and giving him her glasses, Pidge being in tune with Olkari and being brilliant and feisty and JUST PIDGE DOING FUCKING ANYTHING I freaking love it OMFGGG ❤❤❤❤

And that's all I can think of for now. Overall, it was a fantastic series. I will definatley rewatch it in a few years. My opinions might change, they might not.

The point is, regardless of my criticism: I learned, I experienced, I laughed, I cried, I grew.

And that's all anyone ever needs from a tv show, right?

Why do you think Klance will be canon? I read somewhere you though it was the most logical conclusion, could you outline your thoughts? Or if you already have, could you add a link to your post?

I have written about it before but I’ll put down my new thoughts to include season 6. I’ve never been certain of it, keep in mind, it just always has seemed like an inevitable thing based on every single thing we’ve been told about the show and characters, no matter what angle i’ve looked at it from.

So, here’s what we had been given on romance in the show:

-they were planning a slow burn with all romances

-endgame romances couldn’t really happen with all the space plot stuff going on

-lance’s love interest will be someone lance needs, rather than what he wants, and will get him to a place opposite of where he started. they will be self assured and confident, in order to help HIM be more confident and help him with his insecurity. jeremy shada said that lance would fall in love with someone a little bit and like having one person rather than just going all over the place, and he would mature in all ways.

-when asked in a post-season 2 interview about keith and allura’s development, steven yeun replied “I like playing this mystery of where the romance is. I don’t know where it is. It could be between anybody. That’s the natural evolution of this relationship. Even as a friendship, it has fits and turns and ups and downs. I think this is the beginning of a wonderful, wonderful storyline.”

What we get from this is that all the endgame romances will take massive amounts of time to develop properly, and since they are slowburn, it really can’t be with characters introduced far past the halfway point, cause that’s the opposite of slowburn. we also know that they couldn’t really explore ANY romance that wasn’t relevant to the galra plot. lotura is an exception, because it was literally the foundation of the plot in seasons 5 and 6, so they were able to fully go there. but other possible romances have been inching along at a snail’s pace.

Now, in season 6, allura and lance’s relationship has been getting a LOT of focus. i ship this heavily, but in this season I personally was put off by the way their scenes were written and how they reacted to one another. this isn’t evidence that it’s not going to happen, because these are all my subjective opinions and that’s NOT factual, but if you’re interested in why I feel this way, I’ve written about it a lot in the last few days, just do a search on my blog.

so, my opinions aside, there was a lot of focus on their relationship.

but we can look back and see all those keith/allura scenes in season 2, when everyone was certain THEY were going to end up together. in season 1, people were sure it was going to be allura/shiro, before allura was revealed to be in the teen paladins’ age group. it changes literally every season. this is the most it’s ever been, because lance canonically is in love with her, but it’s still just more of the same.

I’ve said it before, but any and all endgame romance in the show will be limited to keith, lance, and allura. pidge is too young for any of them and hasn’t had a single serious one-on-one interaction with any of them, shiro is too old and is seen as a mentor/brother figure, and hunk is linked to shay. any side character hasn’t had enough development, and it’s too late to properly develop a relationship with a brand new character. so, romances are only possible between those 3 – and we’ve already seen this come into play, what with the ship fodder for their various combinations in every single season. and steven yeun even said it himself - “it could be between anyone.” 

now, before season 6, I would have said immediately that it would be keith/lance, because allura doesn’t fit the description of lance’s love interest (and he’s the only character confirmed to have one). he’s wanted her since episode 1, so how could she possibly be not what he wants, but what he needs? however, since season 6, you could also read it as that he’s wanted tons of girls, but he really needs just one. this is where one half of my brain is at right now.

the other half of my brain can’t stop thinking about the lgbt rep.

you can cry “queerbaiting!” all you want, but the fact of the matter is that they wouldn’t be so secretive about it if it weren’t happening and if it weren’t main characters. here’s literally everything that’s ever been said on the subject:

So today I got to meet Jeremy Shada at TBCC. I made him a little doll of his character just like I did for Josh Keaton. I was so nervous but Jeremy was super nice and friendly! He loved the doll thankfully. I asked him about lgbt representation in voltron and his response was “I can’t say, but don’t worry. You’ll be happy.” Just the hope alone makes me happy lol

Shada has also said some things on the subject that were illegally recorded and shouldn’t be repeated, but in short, there IS lgbt rep, it’s between two characters, and it’s apparently such a big deal that it would LITERALLY SPOIL PLOTLINES AND CAN’T BE TALKED ABOUT.

they’ve revealed info about the characters before. they said lance was cuban mere months after season 1 was released, even though that information wouldn’t come up in the show until years later. that could have been considered a spoiler. but no, it didn’t have to do with any actual plotline, so it was easily shared information to make people happy about good rep.

if the lgbt rep weren’t a big deal, they would tell us. they would at least say there’s definitely going to be some. i mean, people ask about it so fucking much, i’m sure they would say what it is if it would get fans to shut up.

and even before there was a fandom, tim hedrick said he would just let it play out as it goes, meaning it’s THERE and he wants people to watch the show and react to it naturally.

something else that i’ve said before – let’s go through the main characters one by one to determine who it could possibly be:

-pidge: has shown no interaction with any girl her age, and the creators have said that “if you want to see her as trans, you can” which is coding, NOT rep. plus, they did that in season 1, and they still won’t talk about the lgbt rep. she’s out.

-shiro: has shown no interaction with any guy his age. i originally thought it would be him and matt, but matt turned out to be younger than him and they haven’t interacted at all since matt came back. a husband back at home wouldn’t be a BIGGGGG SPOILER THAT THEY CAN’T CONFIRM OR DENY. he’s out.

-hunk: linked to shay. out.

-coran: has shown no interaction with any man his age currently. interacted in the past with alfor, but he’s dead, and the lgbt rep is a major plotline that can’t be spoiled. out.

-allura: has shown no interaction with any single girl her age. she interacted with shay, but shay is linked to hunk. unfortunately, i think romelle is too new a character for them to properly develop a relationship between them. out.

-lance: yall know.

-keith: yall know.

LITERALLY who could it possibly be besides keith and lance?? like i said, they wouldn’t be so hush-hush if it weren’t main characters and if it weren’t a huge plotline. i cannot think of a single other option. and anytime anyone’s tried to GIVE me another option, i just immediately disprove it. plus the fact that keith is super insanely self assured and confident now with his additional 2 years, his mom, and his brother safe and sound. he’s exactly what lance needs.

so that’s where the other half of my brain is.

I MEAN i really can’t be sure anymore. if you just go by romance alone it could totally be like allura/lance and keith/romelle or some other terrible het keith ship. or they could go back and rekindle keith/allura and do lance/romelle. but then when you factor in the elusive lgbt rep, there is no other fucking option than keith/lance.

So starting this off as: I am a klance shipper hardcore. I’m queer, I want queer rep in my favorite show, simple as that. Was I disappointed we didn’t get klance content in this season?

Not at all.

Because look: this season gave us SO MUCH MORE than just that, right? There was so much happening so fast I didn’t have time to whine about my boys not being together. I’m focused all on the incredible season I just watched.

The character development? I was really happy with it! I know this fandom is notorious for saying there’s none, but that’s one of the things I think the show does really remarkably well, and I was really happy with it. Even my favorite Paladin, Hunk, got some well deserved development right off the bat! Getting to see him engineer rather than just being food boy was refreshing and appreciated. Plus, all his interactions with Pidge where they discuss science?? I love it! The show is really making an effort to show this guy is at her caliber, or at least can nearly match it (I mean, Pidge is the smartest on the team).

But other than Hunk? We saw Lance grow in a really surprising but great way. He’s more open and honest about his feelings and, even though he started off flirting shamelessly in the beginning of the season, he grew even more. We’ve seen his deep respect for the people he loves, and I think he now can truly convey that to Allura. Yeah, I think he had a little two-steps-back moment at the beginning when he was being all season one again, but hey, maybe he’s been like this behind the scenes and we haven’t gotten to see it because it hasn’t been pertinent.

I can’t even begin on Keith. Wake me up from the coma that boy put me in. Embracing his heritage, learning about his mother and father, becoming the true Black Paladin and unlocking the Black Bayard and wings? Good gravy I was ready to piss myself.

Allura? My bitch queen went OFFFFF. Y’all, I cannot say how much I love her even more. Lotor scorned her and she DEMOLISHED HIM in the best way possible. And fuck, she is so powerful now. Being able to rip into the quintessence realm and power Voltron like that high key made me cry. When she connected with all of Voltron like that, it just accentuated her place as the heart of Voltron. And reviving a human by transferring his soul? Oh my god yes.

Speaking of: Lotor. This fucker. I actually really liked where his character was taken. Yes, I would have appreciated him being more morally gray as we don’t have enough of that right now, but still. The way I see it is this: yeah, he’s technically 50/50 Altean/Galran, but even his own mother says she wasn’t there. He was raised 100% Galra with their values whether with his father or being whipped into learning by his nanny. When he was exposed in Oriande we saw him revert to his core belief of vrepit sa. He may want to embrace his Altean heritage, but he simply never had the means. The nature/nurture aspects of this show are handled very well (Keith being a great example) and I think this is just another case. Altea is there, but Galra nurture was more powerful. His ultimate demise was because he was too desperate to prove himself as something much greater than everyone believed him to be. He craved power and the quintessence exploited it. It was honestly the best way for him to go: so Power hungry that it killed him off.

And lastly, Shiro. Wow. First of all, we all fucking called clone Shiro, but I wasn’t expecting that many. Are the bodies unstable? Was Haggar under the impression he would die again? His return was incredible nonetheless. I liked how the show covered up the 84 discrepancy of “Shiro died this is is twin(?) to come take his place” while also high key referencing that fuckin mistake in the DnD ep. I’m a huge Shiro fan, but I really like that he died. It shows how deep of a connection he had with the Black Lion while dealing with the sheer trauma of the battle that, for all intents and purposes, should have killed him anyway.

As for Pidge? She got a shit ton of character development before. I love her, and I can’t wait for more, but I’m glad they focused elsewhere (Hunk!) for now. I really can’t say how much I do love her character (I see myself in her and my brother in Matt) but yeah.

Other great things (I know I should wrap this up): the animation! Holy shit, Studio Mir. The final battle in the quintessence realm had me S H O O K. The expressions were fantastic, the design beautiful. They’ve wowed me before with atla, and are doing it again with vld.

Also the detailing of Galra culture! It was fascinating to learn about what is truly an inherently violent species and the meaning behind Vrepit Sa.

ROMELLE. The whole Altean arc, really. It makes so much sense! Of course it wasn’t like all of them were on the planet when the mass destruction happened. I mean, they proved themselves beyond intergalactic travel before so it would only make sense. But just. ROMELLE. Modeled after 84 Allura as a beautiful homage and named after her cousin (sister? Niece?? Relative). High key looked like Princess Zelda but shit I was down.

Final words: this season was a masterpiece. No, there wasn’t much klance shipping fodder but I’m not honestly too mad (yet. Wait a month and I’ll be wishing my boys had their time). Personally, I don’t watch the show for just that! I get my queer shows elsewhere—I watch voltron for the quality content and animation. Would I kill for some queer content in it though? Fuck yes. Focus on the other great parts first!!

tl;dr: klance isn’t canon king (yet) but I’m not mad (yet). Character development saved the show and so did everything else.

How I feel about this character

I love him. Despite being through hell, he never came off as a brooding antihero like you expect a character like him to be. He’s a great leader and a total badass, but loving and sweet all the same. The fact that he never gives up and still fights the good fight after going through hell is inspiring to me. I find it awesome how they took a character who essentially existed for 7 eps and made him a 3d character.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Know I’m gonna piss off a lot of people by saying this, but I don’t think the “Paladin Switch” was a bad idea. Hear me out. 

I mentioned in metas from ages ago that Keith’s character arc mimicked both Simon (TLGG) and Siniji (Eva) where a young hero was shoved into the leadership role against the will. In TLGG, Simon takes up the leadership mantel after Kamina dies. And in Eva, Shiniji is forced to be a mecha pilot against his will and grows into the roles as the series progresses. Having watched both of those series, if the writers played their cards right, it would’ve worked just as fine in VLD. Because of that, I think the writers intended Shiro to be a false protagonist, which a rather (uncommon) trope, but it exists. And Keith being forced to step up in Shiro’s absence would’ve allowed him to have a coming of age leadership arc, creating compelling conflict where the team is forced to bond and work together in his absence. 

Don’t get me wrong. Killing Shiro off like the staff wanted to would’ve been a terrible idea and would’ve backfired. Hell, I would’ve been pissed off if the series killed of Shiro for real.  But there was something else that Shiro could’ve done...

To make a long story short, Pollux was a sister planet to Arus (Altea). However, there is a catch. Since in that version, that planet freely and willing sided with the Galra. Romelle along with her two brothers, Bandor and Avok, were royalty of said planet and Allura’s cousins. 

Where does Shiro come into this? Well...

During the dub version, after Sven went to the Space Hospital, Sven meets up with Romelle after Lotor tossed her down a pit. They work together to free her people on the planet. 

I don’t know about you guys, but that would’ve been an awesome to see unfold in VLD!   I’m still baffled as to why the series never added that plotline. I think it missed the boat on that one, because...

It tackles the idea adds a huge shade of moral grey to the series, saying that some of the modern Alteans aren’t that nice and others want to break from that. 

It would challenge Alllura a lot as a character. It’d show that some Alteans survived, but are nothing like Allura ever hoped. With Allura viewing the Alteans in rose-tinted goggles, it would challenge her character a lot, shattering her heart to see the surviving Alteans turn her down and work for the Galra.

Explores the idea of people benefiting from the Galra Empire.

 It would’ve expanded Romelle’s character more. (Because even I admit that VLD made her more of a plot device and didn’t do that much with her outside of exposing Lotor.) 

Most importantly, it gives Shiro more character development outside of the team and gives him something equally as important to do for the story. 

But, nope. Instead, we got the colony plotline, which I’m also salty about. (But I’ll save that for another post to keep myself from not going off track.) 

By the same token, I never got the complaints before the stupid epilogue that DW tacked on that Shiro was “done dirty” for being commander of the Altas instead of being the Black Paladin. He’s the captain of his own mech for fucks sake! That’s pretty huge in of itself. Hell, I always took that line about Shiro loving to be a paladin to mean, “There’s nothing more fulfilling for me then exploring the universe and helping others,” and not literally. As long as Shiro is out there, helping others, exploring the stars and being a kickass leader, I’m happy.      

With that said, Shiro becoming a background character and loosing his close bond with Keith during s8? That was inexcusable. S8 did him really dirty there. 

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I wish that ending where Shiro married Curtis never happened. It’s extremely OOC for Shiro, it implied that Shiro gave up his dreams and still seems like a stupid PR stunt that DW pulled for woke points (it still seems in poor taste since the relationship was never developed). If they really wanted to do something like that, they could’ve scrapped the epilogue and hinted at that he was dating Keith or Curtis right before the lions take off to find Allura. Because it’s far more reasonable to assume then Shiro falling in love with someone and marrying them in less then a year. Shiro deserved far better then to be married off to a sexy lamp at the last second. 

I also wish we learnt more about his family life. Because we never seen his family in the series and I wanted to learn about them. (It makes it painfully obvious that he was slated to die during s2 in hindsight)

How I feel about this character

He’s a badass, but yet is loyal and loving. Throughout the series he becomes closer to others and comes out of his shell, which is cool to see unfold.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I wish the Lotor/Keith rivalry was expanded upon this version and they interacted more in general. While I know the old one was based on Lotor’s lust for Allura, they could’ve found another way to it so that it’s less questionable. 

Also, I wish that Keith’s development happened over the course of the series more. While I know it happened due to behind the scenes issues, him gaining confidence as a leader and becoming close with his mom while on a space whale seems rather tacked on.
