Songs for Soulmates *Plance* (Six [Lance])

Haha I’m not dead, so here’s another update! Not really much to say about this chapter apart from,,,,, lots of feels my word,,, <3 enjoy!

Lance had always wanted to meet his soulmate. His sister Rachel had met hers in third grade. They still had no idea what to do with each other, but Lance had always envied the love the two had for each other, that, when every other one of his siblings found their soulmates too, he thought he’d never have. Sometimes at night, he would cry, not being able to sleep, and put on sad songs. He would hug his pillow as tight as he possibly could and hope his soulmate could feel it. He would write messages on his wrist where song titles popped up and hoped his soulmate could see them. He knew it was useless, but he tried anyway, keeping himsel up wondering who they were, where they lived, what they looked like, what they were doing at that very moment, and, the most predominant, whether they’d ever given him thought, wether they missed him as much as he missed them without even meeting each other.

And now, she could be standing in front of him, with large round glasses and tousled short brown hair and a bewildered expression, and Lance couldn’t seem to find words.

“Test it again.” Pidge said, desperately, and in that moment Lance saw that she had been waiting for this moment just as much as he had been. He scrolled through, found a playlist, and pressed shuffle, bringing Pidge’s left wrist forward to compare with his phone.

It matched. Lance concealed a yelp of excitement and pressed the fast forward button. Seven times. Two down, five to go. They had to test this method five more times and then, if they really were soulmates, their names would appear on each other’s wrists, then fade out. Soulmates were a given, once you found your soulmate, you did what you liked with the information. Most people were more than excited to live out the rest of their lives with their soulmate, to go on adventures with them and stay with someone who would cherish them for the rest of their lives. There were, inevitably, a sad, unfortunate few who had awful people as soulmates, and who decided against staying with them, but they were few. Lance had always hoped he’d be one of the majority, and if he and Katie - Pidge - were soulmates, he knew he would be.

One. Lance grew nervous. The last one - it couldn’t be wrong. This was it. It had to be. He sucked in his breath and selected his favorite song to play to his soulmate, the one he’d tested with Allura but hadn’t worked, the one he’d always play to let whoever it was know that he loved them -

And then, the ink faded away on Pidge’s hand, and it was as if a quill, drawn by the hand of fate, drew, in Lance’s own sloppy, quickened handwriting, one word.

Lance

Lance checked his wrist. Sure enough, just below the palm of his left hand, a word was being written, this one quick but neat, as if it were being scrawled on notepaper.

Pidge

Lance couldn’t contain himself at this point. He started crying, thick, fat tears rolled slowly down his cheeks. He stumbled his way across the step of football field turf that separated him and his soulmate, and he gave Pidge a very much needed hug. It took Pidge a while to fully process what was going on, but before too long, she hugged him back, tightly, warmly, and full of love. Lance couldn’t have imagined a better reunion, and he knew he definitely hadn’t ever been happier in his entire life. No more crying at night without someone to comfort him. No more wondering whether his soulmate cared about him at all. No more looking at people, strangers on the street walking with their soulmates, and wondering whether he would ever have something like that.

Now he did.

Pidge was right in front of Lance, and he couldn’t have asked for anything more.
