The link between warfare and technological innovation has been well documented [...]. World War II was a particularly intense crucible of technological change, and the repurposing of military technologies and industries in the forging of a new post-war consumer [economy] is crucial [...]. Processes of technological bricolage turned the machines of war onto the natural world as global powers competed to cement their economic and imperial hegemony. In Great Britain’s post-war “groundnut scheme” in its East African territories (1946-51), this collision of nature, military hardware, and technical expertise was part of efforts to both produce more fats for the British diet and to demonstrate to the world (most importantly the United States) that, through a newly energized science-led developmentalism, British colonialism still had a “progressive” role to play in the postwar world.
Tumblr media
The aim was to produce millions of tons of peanuts across Tanganyika using the latest methods of advanced scientific agriculture. The environmental conditions in the north, where the scheme was to begin, were known to be especially trying, not least the dry climate [...]. But faith in the power of mechanized agriculture was such that any natural limits were thought to be readily surmountable.
The groundnut scheme was to be, as its Director put it in an interview with the Tanganyika Standard, a “war” with nature, and an “economic Battle of Alamein” waged over some three million acres by an army of colonial technicians - many recruited from military ranks - and local laborers, for many of whom the scheme represented their first entry into the wage labor market.
But it wasn’t just the rhetoric of war that was repurposed.
Lancaster bombers were kitted out to survey and discover “new country” in East Africa for agricultural development. [...] [T]ractors and bulldozers from military surplus stores in Egypt proved unable to tackle the hard ground and tough vegetation, so the planners turned to a novel solution: repurposing surplus Sherman M4A2 tanks. The Vickers-Armstrong factory in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne set about rearranging key elements of the tanks’ construction [...]. The tractors, christened “Shervicks” for their hybrid origins, were [...] thought to be particularly suited to large-scale earth-moving and to the kind of heavy duty “bush clearing” that was required in Tanganyika.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Officials sought to dismiss concerns that large-scale bush clearing would have wider environmental consequences, using the well-worn colonial trope that any observed changes in local climate or erosion patterns were due to the “primitive” agricultural practices of the locals, not to the earth-moving practices of the colonists.  [...] As the plants continued to wilt in the sun, [...] [t]he stakes were high. As [J.R.] of the Colonial Development Corporation put it in a letter: “Our standing as an Imperial power in Africa is to a substantial extent bound up with the future of this scheme. To abandon it would be a humiliating blow to our prestige everywhere.” The only option left was to try and bend the weather itself to the scheme’s will, by seeding the clouds for rain. [...] “Balloon bombs” (photographic film canisters tethered to weather balloons) and a repurposed Royal Navy flare gun were used to target individual clouds [...]. The scheme itself has survived as a cautionary tale of governmental hubris, but it is instructive too as a case study of how technologies of war have been turned against other foes.

Kelby Vera at HuffPost:
Vivek Ramaswamy got quite a strong reaction from conservatives when he tried to explain hiring trends across the tech sector in a culturally-charged social media post on Thursday. In an extended post shared on X, the tech entrepreneur wrote about how “top companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over ‘native’ Americans,” claiming the imbalance “isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit (a lazy & wrong explanation)” but rather because of differences on the societal level. “A key part of it comes down to the c-word: culture,” Ramaswamy continued, before telling readers, “Tough questions demand tough answers & if we’re really serious about fixing the problem, we have to confront the TRUTH.” The CEO-turned-politician’s assessment? That “American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long.” Ramaswamy suggested that entertainment has had an outsized impact on shaping mainstream American values “at least since the 90s and likely longer.”
“A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers,” he claimed. Comparing and contrasting characters from several popular ’90s sitcoms, Ramaswamy went on to say, “A culture that venerates Cory from ‘Boy Meets World,’ or Zach & Slater over Screech in ‘Saved by the Bell,’ or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in ‘Family Matters,’ will not produce the best engineers.” His solution? “More math tutoring, fewer sleepovers. More weekend science competitions, fewer Saturday morning cartoons. More books, less TV. More creating, less ‘chillin.’ More extracurriculars, less ‘hanging out at the mall.’” While Ramaswamy’s point about pop culture seemed reasonable enough, the entrepreneur’s diagnosis veered into problematic overgeneralizations when he claimed the difference boiled down to families’ cultural and geographic backgrounds. “Most normal American parents look skeptically at ‘those kinds of parents,’” he wrote. “More normal American kids view such ‘those kinds of kids’ with scorn. If you grow up aspiring to normalcy, normalcy is what you will achieve.”
[...] Ramaswamy then tried to rally readers to help shift the status quo by envisioning a future where America “once again prioritizes achievement over normalcy; excellence over mediocrity; nerdiness over conformity; hard work over laziness.” While he pinned demographic disparities across the tech world on supposed cultural differences, the imbalance is more likely about dollars and cents. In 2020, a study by the Economic Policy Institute found that employers that rely on America’s H-1B visa program to recruit temporary employees with “highly specialized” skills and technical education often pay those workers well below the market wages. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Walmart, Google, Apple and Facebook have all made robust use of the program to fill job shortages. With President-elect Donald Trump preparing to implement a draconian deportation strategy when he assumes office next month, conservatives still seem to be at odds over how to approach the labor shortages troubling many of America’s biggest and most profitable businesses. Though Tesla CEO Elon Musk, like Ramaswamy, has vowed to be behind Trump’s harsh immigration policies, on Wednesday he posted that “the number of people who are super talented engineers AND super motivated in the USA is far too low,” and the country needs “to recruit top talent wherever they may be.”
DOGE co-chair Vivek Ramaswamy helped spark MAGA-on-MAGA violence over his X post on cultural differences on work expectations between native-born and foreign-born Americans.

Note
are you disappointed that bree newsome wants trump reclected?
Bree Newsome is a prolific tweeter and I’ve looked, but I haven’t seen anywhere where she said that she wants Trump to be re-elected. Please send me the link to the specific tweet if I’m wrong.
I understand and agree with much of what Bree has been saying on Twitter though. I mean, I dO get it. I think her major concern is that 1) in some important ways, the difference between Trump’s policies and some of Biden’s policies has not been all that great, and 2) if Biden should win (definitely not a guarantee) liberals will go right back to brunch and act as if the problem is gone and everything is “okay” again.
As far as the first point goes, you don’t need to look any further than Biden’s Title 42; or how the Biden administration literally sued to keep using Trump’s previous racist immigration policies. Not a good look. And now, you’ve got Democrats trying to out-Republican Republicans by showing how tough cruel they can be to refugees who are legally seeking asylum at the Southern border. Bottom line, the immigration policies are white supremacy-lite, and some of the changes Biden is proposing—like forcing asylum seekers to wait in another country while the government takes its sweet time with endless immigration red tape—these changes will fundamentally change America’s immigration system, for the worse.
And that’s without me even touching on how badly Biden is fucking up with Palestine.
Tumblr media
And as for the second point, conservative Democrats have gone back to brunch once orange man gone. Remember how hard Democrats came down on the Trump administration for their poor Coronavirus response? Yet now we have the CDC basically telling people to stay their asses at work even if they’ve tested positive for COVID. WTF?? Did I mention that measles are making a comeback?? And Biden isn’t saying anything, and neither are his surrogates. And so it is perhaps this tendency towards inaction(?) that is the most significantly damaging and damning aspect that creates disaffected voters who should be motivated to get rid of Trump and Republicans writ large —in a lot of ways that matter, disaffected voters don’t see any significant differences. Sure, the stock market is doing great, but people are getting their asses kicked on a lot of day-to-day, kitchen table issues. Unemployment is down, but a lot of people still have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.
So yeah, I won’t be dismissive or derisive about Bree Newsome. She’s making some really valid points for anyone who is willing to actually listen.
Now that all said, I think that there is something fundamentally wrong that people are missing when they say misguided things like, “We survived one Trump administration, and we can survive another one.” A lot of marginalized groups and oppressed people won’t survive a second Trump administration. They just won’t.
Because if you thought it was bad the last time, I promise you the next Trump administration won’t be anything like the last one. Last time Trump was unprepared and didn’t even expect to win, so they made rookie mistakes. That won’t happen next time. The next Trump administration will be stacked from top to bottom with diehard Trump loyalists who will ruthlessly execute his most racist policies, foreign and domestic. (See also: Project 2025).
And yes, Biden is 100% for shit on his policy of standing by Israel no matter what. People who agree with Bree think that we will, more or less, have the same kind of problems under Trump that we’re having under Biden now. Those people are what I like to call deadass wrong.
Tumblr media
Literally EVERYTHING will become exponentially worse in a second Trump term. For everyone who isn’t a wealthy, cisgender heterosexual white male.
Just imagine America with a Republican controlled House and Senate. Goodbye Medicare and Social Security. Goodbye labor laws. So long minimum wages. See ya, state local and federal courts not totally stacked with Federalist Society judges. It was nice knowing you, “shithole” countries full of people who I love and care about.
Look, I finally figured out something that used to bother me when I first became politically aware: it bugged tf out of me whenever I heard someone say, “THIS is the most important election everrrr!! Because THIS time, democracy itself is on the line!” Pfft. I was like a lot of people I see now, saying “But that’s what you said about the last election.” The truth is, every election is pretty much life or death. Every single one. Because elections aren’t like something you do once, and then afterwards everything is all good forever and ever. Maybe it should be, but you got assholes like Mitch McConnell and Ron DeSantis and Trump and whoever comes after them, you got people who will always be trying their hardest to constantly make shit worse for everyone who isn’t wealthy and white. They aren’t going away. So we can’t go away either. Because the moment we checkout and go back to brunch, they get right back to working on their usual transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic, racist, bullshit culture wars.
So as long as Republicans, Libertarians and conservative “Democrats” keep punching in, we gotta punch in too.
I wanna be really clear about something here: Joe Biden has done some very good things (like capping the cost of insulin), but he has also been, in many ways (not all), a terrible “Democratic” president. Biden is far too enamored of “bipartisanship,” and reaching across the aisle (to people who do not want to compromise), and Biden is far far too enamored of the non-existent good old days™ when Republicans weren’t the evil pieces of shit that they are now, and he takes far too long to change his position on important issues. Like Palestine.
But yeah, (can’t believe I’M saying this) he’s definitely better than a second Trump term will be. And even if he’s slow to change positions, at least he can be persuaded. Trump can’t.
I’m not white and I’m not rich. I am terrified of a second Trump term. I’m basically a single issue voter now, and my issue is keeping Trump out of office and HOPEFULLY making him pay for every single law he’s broken.

National Farmers Day
What is Farmers Day?
Farmers Day is celebrated every year on October 12! The profession of farming began around 12,000 years ago with the domestication of livestock as hunter/gatherers settled down and started to plant their own food. In short, farming is one of the oldest jobs around. So let‘s take a moment to give some love to all the farmers who work tirelessly to feed us year round.
When is Farmers Day 2022?
Farmers Day in the U.S is observed on October 12 every year. Other countries celebrate the holiday on different days, with India and Pakistan holding large celebrations in December.
History of Farmers Day
Agriculture is one of the world’s oldest and vital professions. Farmers have remained one of the highest contributors to economic growth while consistently feeding the people who rely on their goods. Originally referred to as Old Farmer’s Day, National Farmers Day was cultivated to celebrate the hard work farmers put into growing their crops. The date of October 12 came about as it lands at the end of the traditional harvesting period, allowing farmers to participate in festivities, which can sometimes last the entirety of the month. Additionally, every three years, the Harvest Moon will fall in early October, preceding and leading up to National Farmer’s Day on the 12th.
In fact, in Loranger, Louisiana, there’s an Old Farmer’s Day Festival which celebrates and showcases the traditions and methodologies of farming before it became the modernized and scientific venture it is today. Usually, in states in the northern US, the first frost would occur in the beginning of October, if not the middle, requiring many farmers to harvest their crops beforehand to prepare for the winter. Now, because of scientific developments in farming techniques, the traditional growing period can be prolonged to increase yield and profit, part of the reasoning why National Farmer’s Day tend to extend its celebrations in rural areas to National Farmer’s Month.
Farmers Day timeline
12,000 BC ELet's settle
People began to leave their nomadic hunter gatherer lifestyle and settled down as farmers.
Mid 1600s You say you want a revolution
The British Agricultural Revolution began due to an unprecedented increase in agricultural production.
1902 The National Farmers Union was founded.
The NFU was founded in Texas by ten family farmers. The union advocated for voting rights for women, fair market access for farmers, and increased co-operative rights.
1934 Farm to table goods
Farmer's Markets began in Los Angeles as a way for farmers and merchants can sell their wares from permanent stalls.
Traditions of National Farmers Day
Thank a farmer
They’re the backbone of the breadbasket and what feeds not just this country, but many other nations as agriculture is usually a major export. Make sure you thank a farmer today for all their hard work keeping bread on tables everywhere!
Buy from a local farmer
One of the best ways to thank a farmer is with your wallet. Head to a farmer’s market or join a local CSA (community supported agriculture) to get some fresh, local produce, eggs, or even grass-fed meat.
Start a garden
Or become one yourself! Growing your own food is one of hte most sustainable and rewarding ways to celebrate National Farmer’s Day. It may have a tough learning curve to plant and grow just a few tomatoes, but the taste of tomatoes right off the vine will make it all worth it.
Stats about National Farmers Day
2 million – the number of farms in the U.S. $1 trillion – The contribution of agriculture to the US economy. 1.3% – The percentage of the U.S. labor force made up by ranchers. 90% – The percentage of U.S. crop losses caused by extreme weather 50,000 – The number of jobs available in agriculture in the U.S each year. 40% – The percentage of crop cash that is generated by corn and soybeans. 166 – The number of people the average U.S farm feeds each year. 25% – The percentage of food that Americans throw away every month.

Farmers Day Activities
Go to a farmers market
Start your own mini-farm
Earn your stripes with a farmer's tan
Support your local farmers by shopping at the local Farmer's Market. Keep in mind that by shopping with small businesses, you are helping an entrepreneur provide for their family or expand their business. America has a history of family farming and your support helps keep their dreams alive.
According to one of the top Kansas City PR Firms, only 2% of Americans grow their own food. What better way to celebrate National Farmers Day than to become your own farmer? Think how awesome would it be if your favorite fruits or veggies were growing in your backyard. Don't have a yard? No Problem. Many neighborhoods have community gardens where you can test out your green thumb.
We're not saying to throw out your sun block, but it might be fun to show solidarity with your local farmers by sporting your own t-shirt tan! Enjoy the sunny day outdoors and learn the true meaning of a Farmer's Tan.
Why We Love Farmers Day
Farmers perform one of the world's oldest jobs
They grow our food
Farmers are dedicated, hard workers
Farming developed independently all over the globe, whether is was farming rice, wheat, bananas, shrimp, or almonds, farmers are working tirelessly all over the globe to feed the world.
It is hard to imagine a world without having access to fruits and vegetables. Fortunately, there is a group of professionals that dedicate themselves to growing the perfect produce. Farmer's play a vital role in our society by providing us with the luxury of purchasing fruit and vegetables at any given time.
Deciding to be a farmer is a decision that not many take lightly. Creating a farm requires investment, tons of hard work, equipment, time and a passion for growing food.

Got the late night blues so let me take this opportunity to instead focus on something genuine, joyful, and heartwarming for myself.
I've taken a few scant opportunities to talk about various things my dad has done that make me happy- that add up to a small part of why I love the guy, and for my 30th birthday he did another one that really touched my heart.
The thing with my dad is he's not a particularly externally expressive emotion kinda guy. Like think of a generic physical labor tough guy dad type and you've got the idea- not particularly expressive, sometimes he's grumpy, that kinda person- at least as far as he's expressed to me all these years.
I've seen him at some emotional break-points, he's not so stone cold that I've never seen him cry and I've certainly seen him laugh or joyful- but most of the time he's kind of plain-faced and quiet about it. I'm giving a touch more of a 'grim' implication to him, it's more accurate to say he's got like a 10% happy 40% hard-ass 50% present attitude to him. He usually feels pleasant but quiet unless he's telling a story.
So you wouldn't really think to get particularly heartfelt gifts from the guy, and usually you won't. He's said many times ever since we were kids that he can't pretend to know what we'd actually want, so he gives money. That's his gift, that's what you get, he loves ya and here's 50-200 bucks or whatever. Happy birthday/christmas etc.
A few times he's broken this, either because someone else pushed him to, or because we ask for something specific, or because he gets an idea- and these moments- especially the last one- always catch me off guard.
That's how you get him painting a giant pikachu on my wall as a kid, or helping paint a skyline with birds across a different childhood room, or the pendant he gave me a few years back that I'll always guess my step mom pushed him to get but the fact he did still makes me smile-
but for my 30th he did something that caught me off guard so much it took me a few hours before it really hit me and damn near made me cry because I find it sweet.
When I was a kid my dad used to take me to a giant kentucky flea market that happened like once a year. We went a good handful of times together, it was a big deal for us, it was like up to a week we'd spend just me, him, my grandpa, and usually an uncle or cousin along for the ride, and we'd work a stand and explore the market.
So here's what he got me:
Tumblr media
Some of you will know, others might scratch your head- the thing is for a moment I was the latter.
This looked so FAMILIAR but it escaped me.
Then I was reminded why it looked so familiar. They are honey sticks.
A treat I used to beg for constantly whenever we went on our trips.
There was a stand where a bee-keeper (or not hell if I know) would sell tons of flavored honeys they had- I remember begging to get big jars of the stuff with combs inside- what I had forgotten until I saw these was just how many of these little sticks I had eaten over my many years visiting the market.
I used to get these all the time!
But the thing is.
My dad remembered.
Of course he did, he was older than I was at the time, but also, he didn't have to remember. It isn't like we talk about that time too much, I wouldn't expect a sentimental memory like this.
But the time we shared was important enough to remember. He remembered kid me loving these silly little treats and begging for them and how many I tore through while we ran the stall, and he picked some more up to celebrate my 30th.
Just typing it has me tearing up pretty bad. I love that mother fucker.
I've only eaten one so far, but it brought back so many memories of our time there.
I just. I love my dad. And the fact he sat there and thought of me, remembered me, and got me something that only I would find meaningful due to our shared experience, it got me pretty fucking hard, man.
Hilariously enough. To cap it off he got me a little money. Because he's my dad. He doesn't know what I'd want, so you get money, and that'll do.

Silicon Valley, despite being a supposed hub of innovation, one separated from the garish demands of regular industries, has culturally grown to resemble an open-air private equity firm where companies are incubated like animals bred for slaughter.
While I’m not saying the Valley is entirely bereft of innovation, the modern tech ecosystem has become an alternative asset market built to enrich the very same people it once claimed to reject. Fred Wilson, the co-founder of Union Square Ventures, said in 2016 that startups that took corporate money were “doing business with the devil,” yet the only remaining difference between the current state of venture capital and private equity appears to be how willing they are to say the quiet part (“we need to make money off of this investment”) out loud.
Silicon Valley’s key differentiator was that it was theoretically the place where venture capital took risks on interesting and innovative technology, yet the best-funded startups remain siloed in whatever industry venture capital believes will be “big,” even if they haven’t got any true path to profitability.
It may also be a result of the different incentives that bring people to the Bay Area and the tech industry in general. A decade ago, engineers made an average base salary of $92,648 versus $139,729 in 2023. The software industry has created 82 new billionaires since 2010, and the 2019 tech IPO rush created an estimated 5000 new millionaires across eight tech companies. In 2013, there were 39 unicorns (tech companies worth a billion dollars or more). According to CBInsights, there are now over a thousand of them. And because Andreessen and his fellow venture stooges forced so many lossy, unprofitable companies to go public, many of them are underwater (and they have been for some time), with the top 50 Tech IPOs since 2020 losing 59% of their market capitalization as of May 13 2023.
As a result, the Valley is left with the avaricious culture of the finance industry without any of the stability. Venture capital’s elite turned startups into alternative investments, fattened them up to sell, and, when the market dropped out in 2022 and 2023, shrugged their shoulders and blamed the workers. They, along with tech’s leaders, derided a culture of “entitlement” that they themselves created. Oh, workers want food at the office? They want a gym? They want a place to nap? Then why didn’t you fucking complain when companies started offering this shit back in 2015?
Because tech’s elite hates labor, and hoarding talent was a necessity to pump valuations. The tech industry — by which I mean the Valley’s powerful venture arm — spent a decade convincing software engineers that they were an elevated class, promising them the world and oftentimes delivering it without requiring them to build something that improved the world in any way. And the second the party ended — the moment that the economy stopped endlessly providing growth to every single company in the market, and when money stopped being free — tech was ready to eject tens of thousands of workers, and tech’s venture capitalists were ready to stop signing checks and start requiring “hard numbers” for the first time in years.
And the problem with an industry that is led and powered by venture capital is that it doesn’t build any real culture. “Startup culture” is a vague shibboleth that exists to justify labor abuse in exchange for a theoretical massive payday in the future, with the hollow premise that there is something more noble about writing code or “working at an early-stage company” than there is any other job. While there are people doing cool, weird or societally-beneficial shit, they are endlessly drowned out by a combination of founders trying to build “the next big thing,” with “big” referring to how much they can sell it for, and “thing” being “whatever is going to sell to someone.”

More than anything, it was World War I that brought residential construction to a halt in New York (and, for that matter, other American cities). Even before the United States entered the war, the price of building materials had started to go up, and by late 1918 they cost nearly twice as much as they had in early 1914. Even at the inflated prices, they were often very hard to find—and, if found, very hard to ship. With so many men serving in the armed forces and so many others taking jobs in war-related industries, labor was also in short supply. It was much more expensive too. Between 1913 and 1918 wages in New York City went up 10 percent for carpenters, 16 percent for bricklayers, 25 percent for painters, and 80 percent for laborers. As a result, the cost of construction rose roughly 50 percent. To build a typical five-story brick walk-up on a fifty by one hundred foot lot cost $32,000 in 1913, $40,000 in 1916, and $50,000 in 1918. An even greater obstacle to residential construction was that savings banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions were rejecting applications for mortgages with what Frank Mann called “monotonous regularity.” According to their executives, they had put much of their money into Liberty Bonds. What little capital was left was being invested not in residential mortgages, which yielded only 3 percent after federal and state taxes, but rather in tax-exempt state and local bonds, which paid 5 to 6 percent, and in gilt-edge securities, which paid 7 to 10 percent. Making matters even worse for the builders was a series of tough measures that the Wilson administration had adopted to prevent the diversion of materials, labor, and capital from the war effort. Underlying these measures, which started in late 1917 and culminated in late 1918, was the belief, as Treasury Secretary William G. McAdoo put it, that “building operations absorb the very materials and the very labor and the very kind of money, that the Government requires most urgently at this time.” Acting on this belief, the Railroad Administration gave low priority to the shipment of materials used in residential construction. The Department of Labor classified the building trades as nonessential. The Capital Issues Committee of the Federal Reserve Board pretty much excluded the building industry from the money markets. And in a move that pushed the industry to what Senator William M. Calder of New York called the “zero hour for building,” the federal government imposed restrictions on the use of materials for structures that cost more than $2,500. Not long afterward, the War Industries Board ordered builders to stop work except on projects that needed only finishing touches. Even in those cases, New York's builders needed a permit from the Mayor's Committee on National Defense to complete the job.

Reasons More Companies Are Turning to External Recruitment Solutions
Many employers are finding it tough to hire the right talent in this busy business environment. The ability to attract, engage, and onboard the top talent that any company will ever receive is what can make or break a company's success.
On the other hand, with the growing enhancement of the recruitment process and the need to find specialized human resources, many organizations are turning to outside professionals for assistance. Now let us look at the reasons behind this upward trend of RPO and the advantages that this brings to organizations.
Expertise in Recruitment Processes
It also helps that external recruitment agencies offer specialized knowledge and experience in performing their tasks. Besides, they ensure they are in touch with the current employment trends, the state of the labor market, and generally acknowledged strategies in recruitment outsourcing. These strategies can range from the acquisition of passive candidates to the use of technology for tracking applications or even targeted sourcing. These professionals, when teamed up with the businesses, help enhance efficiency in recruitment and the quality of employees hired.
Focus on Core Business Activities
Recruitment often proves tiresome and time-consuming and largely diverts the attention of the company from its functional activities. It helps businesses to free up time and concentrate on areas like product innovation, customers, and expanding markets since recruitment can be taken by other agencies. Outsourcing the hiring process makes the firm run efficiently by avoiding interruption by issues related to hiring experts.
Cost-Effectiveness
Outsourcing the recruitment process may sound expensive, but in the long run, it may be cheaper than people think. An in-house recruitment team entails costs in terms of remuneration, allowances, training of the team, and costs incurred for the procurement of recruitment tools and application software. External recruitment solutions therefore efficiently package these costs, hence offering value for the cash. Furthermore, reduced time to hire decreases expenses that are related to having positions open, like the time wasted or missed deadlines on ongoing projects.
Enhanced Candidate Experience
In the modern world, candidates are willing and able to go through a professional and efficient hiring process. External recruitment agencies adhere to the general principle of delivering a positive candidate experience from the time of the initial contact to the joining of the organization. They regularly communicate with candidates, offer feedback, and timely respond to inquiries, which seems very impressive to candidates. Recruitment is a critical talent acquisition process not only because it enables the organization to select competent workers from a pool of applicants but also has a bearing on the reputation of the organization as an employer.
Access to Advanced Technology and Tools
Recruitment agencies use modern technology and various techniques to make the recruitment process as efficient as possible. Get to know ATS and AI for screening candidates, data analytics for hiring trends, and more—count on these technologies as the tools that increase efficiency and quality. Such resources can be easily availed if companies collaborate with external recruitment firms because it does not require huge capital investment to build such resources.
Reduced Risk of Bad Hires
Hiring the wrong talent is expensive not only in terms of financial resources but also in regard to team spirit. The external recruitment agencies work very hard in trying to recruit the right persons, but those who fit the organizational culture of the firm. The detailed process minimizes the chances of hiring the wrong candidates and promotes high employee turnover.

The Importance of Professional House Washing Services in Seven Hills, OH
Maintaining the cleanliness and curb appeal of your home is more than just about aesthetics; it’s also about preserving its value and protecting its structure. Over time, dirt, grime, mold, mildew, and other pollutants accumulate on the exterior of your house, leading to damage and deterioration. In Seven Hills, OH, many homeowners are opting for professional house washing services to ensure their homes stay looking their best while also being well-maintained.
Why Opt for Professional House Washing?
While it might seem tempting to tackle house washing yourself, professional services offer a variety of benefits that DIY approaches simply can't match. Here are some reasons why professional house washing services in Seven Hills, OH, are worth the investment:
Expertise and Experience Professional house washing technicians are trained to use the right techniques and equipment to clean your home effectively and safely. They understand the complexities involved in washing different types of surfaces, from siding and brick to stucco and wood. With their knowledge, they can avoid common mistakes, such as using too much pressure that could damage your property.
Specialized Equipment Unlike homeowners using a basic garden hose or a rental pressure washer, professional house washing services use high-quality equipment designed to clean your home without causing harm. Pressure washers, soft washers, and other advanced tools allow the technicians to tackle tough grime and mold without damaging the exterior of your house.
Time and Effort Saving Cleaning the exterior of a house can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive task, especially if you don't have the right equipment. Hiring professionals means you can save hours of effort while the job gets done quickly and efficiently. They are also well-equipped to handle tough spots, such as gutters, windows, and roof areas, which are often challenging for homeowners to clean on their own.
Prevention of Long-Term Damage Regular house washing is crucial for maintaining the longevity of your home. Dirt, algae, mold, and mildew can slowly degrade the materials on your house, leading to costly repairs down the line. For example, mold can eat away at siding, and grime can clog gutters, leading to water damage. By scheduling regular cleaning, you prevent these issues from escalating, which can save you money in the future.
Enhanced Curb Appeal A clean home is an inviting home. If you’re looking to increase your property’s curb appeal or planning to sell your house in the near future, professional house washing services can help make your home shine. A spotless exterior will give potential buyers a positive first impression and may even increase the market value of your property.
What Does Professional House Washing Include?
Professional house washing services in Seven Hills, OH, offer a variety of cleaning options to address different parts of your home. Some of the key services include:
Pressure Washing: This is the most common service used to remove tough stains, dirt, and debris from hard surfaces like brick, concrete, and stone.
Soft Washing: This gentle method uses low pressure to clean delicate surfaces such as vinyl siding, wood, and roofs, protecting them from damage while still effectively removing dirt and algae.
Gutter Cleaning: Clogged gutters can lead to water damage, so professional cleaners can remove leaves and debris to ensure proper water flow.
Window Washing: In addition to cleaning the exterior, window washing services can leave your windows spotless, allowing more natural light to enter your home.
Roof Cleaning: Mold and algae can grow on your roof, affecting both its appearance and integrity. Professional roof cleaning removes these contaminants without damaging the shingles.
Choosing the Right House Washing Service in Seven Hills, OH
When searching for house washing services in Seven Hills, OH, it’s important to do your research. Look for a company with a good reputation, plenty of experience, and positive customer reviews. It's also important to ask about their cleaning methods to ensure they are using safe, environmentally friendly techniques that won't harm your property.
Conclusion
Professional house washing services are an excellent way to keep your home looking fresh, clean, and well-maintained in Seven Hills, OH. Whether you're looking to boost your home's curb appeal, prevent long-term damage, or simply keep your property in good condition, hiring experts to handle the job can provide peace of mind and lasting results. So, when it’s time for a thorough cleaning, make sure to invest in a service that offers quality, efficiency, and expertise—because your home deserves the best care possible.

Small Caps Squeeze as Big Caps Rise: Forex Impact Explained How Small Caps Got Squeezed and Why You Should Care Picture this: you finally get around to buying those fancy size 10 sneakers online, only to realize you should've gotten size 9. Ouch, right? Well, turns out small caps are experiencing that same "wrong fit" pain in the market. While big-name stocks strutted through this latest market volatility, the Russell 2000 was left limping behind, pinched by higher U.S. yields and some pretty fierce tariff talk. Let’s unpack the story and why this is the kind of move that could matter for traders like you. Big Boys Up Front, Small Caps Catching Heat US stocks ended the day a mixed bag, with the major indices gaining—the S&P 500 (+0.57%), Nasdaq (+0.57%), and Dow (+0.28%) all showed strength. Meanwhile, the small-cap Russell 2000 took a nosedive, dropping by 0.73%. It’s like the large caps showed up to the party in their designer suits, while the small caps got stuck in traffic. But there’s a deeper reason behind this move. The markets are reacting to President-elect Trump’s threat of tariffs on everything under the sun from Canada, Mexico, and China. That threat is causing investors to pump up the yields on U.S. Treasuries, squeezing the smaller companies that tend to be more sensitive to rate changes. And it makes sense. If you were running a smaller business that depends on international suppliers or paying off loans, the idea of higher tariffs and interest rates might make you want to crawl under a blanket (preferably one branded “DreamNest”—comfort is key when hiding from your financial fears). FOMC Minutes: Are We About to Hit Pause? Moving to the FOMC minutes, it looks like the Fed is keeping its foot on the brake pedal—but gently. Many participants noted the uncertainty around the neutral rate level, implying they’re going to approach rate cuts a bit like you might approach walking on thin ice: slowly, and with lots of nervous glances. Here’s the scoop: inflation has eased off its previous highs, but core inflation is still looking a bit stubborn. In the words of almost every parental figure ever: "It's better, but it's not great." Some officials even discussed a pause if inflation remains pesky, or a speed-up in cuts if the labor market softens more than expected. Translation for traders? The Fed wants to keep all their options on the table. If inflation doesn't behave, they'll play tough. If things ease up, then it’s time to ease up on the rates—essentially, the Fed is running the balancing act of a tightrope walker who, unfortunately, has multiple people giving advice on how to take the next step. Quick Spin on Key Headlines Fed's Goolsbee, a 2025 voter (no pressure, right?), shared that it makes sense to slow down the rate cuts as they approach the elusive "r-star" level (a fancy way of saying "the Goldilocks interest rate that's neither too high nor too low"). It’s like trying to hit that perfect temperature for a cup of coffee—something Mohammed, my robusta-loving buddy, could tell you is a lot harder than it looks. And while we’re talking about decisions, President-elect Trump has made some notable picks: Jamieson Greer for USTR and Kevin Hassett to head the National Economic Council. These are names to keep an eye on, especially if you’re watching for how policy decisions might impact those tariffs and, ultimately, the markets. Emerging Trend: The Small Cap Squeeze Here’s what you might be missing if you’re not paying attention: Small caps have historically been the high-risk, high-reward sector. But right now, they’re caught in a squeeze between rising interest rates and global trade jitters. It’s the classic story of being stuck between a rock and a hard place—or, in trading terms, stuck between yields and tariffs. For Forex traders, this brings opportunities. With the dollar strengthening on tariff fears and rate hikes, USD pairs are likely to see increased volatility. That means more action for those of you trading currencies like the CAD, MXN, or even CNY. Keep an eye out for the potential divergence as the dollar rises on safe-haven demand while these currencies may experience heightened pressure. Forex Strategy Insight: Using Small Cap Data as a Leading Indicator Let’s put the puzzle together: Small caps struggling might mean broader economic challenges ahead, particularly as higher rates hurt businesses that are more dependent on loans and less insulated against cost changes. If this downturn in the Russell 2000 continues, it could be a canary in the coal mine for a broader economic slowdown—and the kind of thing that Forex traders can leverage to make informed decisions on dollar positioning. Contrarian traders, this is your cue. When the rest of the market is anxious, there’s often value in going the opposite way—especially if you can find the right setups. As small caps get squeezed, watch for any exaggerated moves in USD pairs that might create opportunities for reversals or corrections. Hidden Forces at Play A lot of traders focus on headline numbers and ignore the signals lying underneath. Small caps, tariffs, FOMC chatter—these are the forces shaping the market narrative, but the real moves come when traders spot what others miss. Think about it like this: If everyone’s already got their eyes on the large caps, maybe the smartest play is to start looking where they’re not—the underappreciated, underperforming small caps. And while the Fed plays the rate game, don’t forget that these gradual changes mean gradual impacts. The key here is not getting caught up in the day-to-day noise but thinking ahead about how these interest rate paths might influence different sectors and, by extension, different currencies. Stay Informed, Stay Clever So, traders, what’s the takeaway here? The market’s got a lot going on—small caps under pressure, tariffs looming, Fed rates hanging in the balance—but all of these factors create opportunities if you know where to look. Don’t let the noise drown out the signals. Stay clever, stay ahead, and remember: every small cap squeeze might just be an entry point that the masses are missing. Future of Work - Predictions for 2024
Tumblr media
The future of work 2024 and the predictions post-pandemic and the rapid digital transformation have changed how people approach their job.
The pandemic and the ensuing rapid digital transformation have fundamentally changed how people approach their jobs and employers. In the last two years, employees across the globe have reevaluated their personal and professional priorities. As such, everything from the actual work to be done (what) to the workforce doing it (who) to the actual workplace (where) is undergoing tectonic shifts. As HR and people departments adapt to the many changes we've seen this past year, some of the key trends are here to stay for the future of work 2024 and beyond. From the great resignation to reshuffle to quiet quitting - employees are in charge: Quiet quitting (employees refusing to go above and beyond their job descriptions) is becoming the next phase of the great resignation (workers leaving their job to either find another or reassess their working future), signaling the end of the hustle culture (eat, sleep, breathe work). Amidst this great reshuffle (workers switching their field) employers are increasingly having to choose between their employees either leaving or potentially becoming less engaged.
More than 50% of workers who have quit their jobs in 2022 are switching their occupations or field of work.
Looking beyond the hustle culture: As employee well-being and mental health take center stage amidst burnout and uncertainty, businesses need to find ways to make their employees feel valued. Companies need to find ways to invest in their employees, from upskilling to lucrative compensation/bonuses. Employees expect more from their employers; work-life balance, child care, unlimited vacation, etc. As per research by McKinsey, 4 out of 10 workers showed a result of high burnout and stress. In 2021, employers added an unprecedented 3.8 million jobs while there are 3.4 million fewer Americans participating in the labor force today compared to February of 2020. In its first year, the pandemic drove more than 3 million adults into early retirement. Hybrid work continues as companies adopt dynamic in-office and remote work policies: The pandemic drove the biggest 'work from home experiment' as companies had to shift to being remote overnight. As many return to pre-pandemic life, some employees are no longer ready to go back to being in the office full-time. Some are choosing the flexibility that working from home brings while others are looking forward to meeting their colleagues face to face. This means that companies have to quickly figure out the right balance for their workforce. Nearly one in three (33%) women indicated that the need to be home and care for children or other family members has made the return to work difficult or impossible.  The job market continues to be tough for both skilled and unskilled workers: A severe labor shortage is plaguing all industries - Salary.com reported that 80% of employers say there is a talent shortage - with jobs requiring specific skills being hard to recruit for and roles that may not require specialized skills facing unprecedented attrition. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, there are 10.9 million job openings and only 6.9 million available workers. Pay Transparency amidst the focus on diversity, equity and inclusion: Pay transparency is becoming increasingly important to employees as a means to truly create an inclusive culture. Employees don't want to waste time considering jobs that don't meet their salary expectations and are more focused on driving pay parity across race, gender, etc. Companies need to focus on inclusive compensation that supports their initiatives in this space as well as delivers financial well-being for their employees. 67% of job applicants would be more likely to apply for a job that offered more transparency. 68% of US millennials would consider switching to a job that offered more transparency. Focus on Retention and Engagement: The recent labor shortage and rising costs due to a spike in inflation have put upward pressure on pay, leading to the problem of "Pay Compression" This is where new hires are getting higher pay while existing employees don't get raises at the same rate. This trend is threatening retention as many long-standing employees need to leave their companies to get market-rate pay. According to Adam Grant, new hires are making 7% more than people currently working in the same job while existing employees are paying Loyalty Tax (making less money if they don't switch jobs). Quiet quitting is another term for disengagement. The State of the Global Workplace 2022 report shows that only 21% of employees are actively engaged in their work. That means 8/10 employees are at the risk of quitting. The Keep Approach Living and working in the Middle East I evidenced the culture change here. Remote working is even post-pandemic for many old-fashioned company owners still not accepted. Also, the investment into employee development or shifting them even in the organizations into another field is not often practiced. This may be due to the absence of the HCM approach and not the HR approach. Talent management is most of the time only utilized for new hires. Similarly as noted in the infographic we are helping  HR teams through 'outside the box' thinking and technology to drive employee development which helps the organization and the vision of employees for their future. Keep Financial who created the infographic "Future of Work 2024" is revolutionizing how companies attract, engage, and retain top talent with vesting cash bonuses — providing an easy-to-use platform to create and deploy upfront compensation to employees that are earned over time.Skillz Middle East makes Digital Transformation happening for your company.
