Qualche settimana fa ho veduto per la prima volta «On the Milky Road - Sulla Via Lattea (On the Milky Road)» (2016) di Emir Kusturica, dove il regista recita insieme a Monica Bellucci.

Arizona Dream: Explore Kusturica's surrealism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Opening Scene:
As the sun sets over the barren Arizona desert, the camera pans across the vast expanse of cacti and tumbleweeds. An enchanting yet eerie melody fills the air, and we are immediately drawn into a world where reality blurs with fantasy.
Plot Twist:
Arizona Dream is not your ordinary movie; it's a psychedelic rollercoaster ride through the surreal minds of its characters. As we follow the protagonist, Axel Blackmar (played by Johnny Depp), we find ourselves unsure of what's real and what's merely a product of his imagination.
The Quirky Characters:
In this desert dreamscape, the characters are as eccentric as they come. An unusual father-daughter duo, Leo (played by Dennis Hopper) and Grace (played by Faye Dunaway), mesmerize us with their bizarre antics and seemingly illogical beliefs. Together, they bring an otherworldly charm to the movie that keeps us guessing their true intentions.
Interstellar Encounters:
In a mind-bending twist, aliens enter the scene, casually sipping tequila and discussing the meaning of life. Their random appearances add an extra layer of absurdity to the story, leaving the audience to wonder if we've entered a parallel universe where anything is possible.
Visual Extravaganza:
Emir Kusturica, the visionary director, ensures every frame is a feast for the eyes. The cinematography mesmerizes us, capturing the stunning Arizona landscapes juxtaposed with the offbeat characters' idiosyncrasies. The movie's visual flair takes us on a surreal trip, leaving us unsure whether we're watching a film or living a dream.
Musical Enchantment:
With a soundtrack curated by the legendary Goran Bregović, the movie becomes an unforgettable auditory experience. The mix of Balkan and Gypsy music brings an intoxicating energy to every scene, making us feel like we're dancing with the characters on this quirky journey.
Themes That Haunt:
Beneath the whimsy, Arizona Dream explores profound themes of escapism, the human desire for freedom, and the relentless pursuit of happiness. The movie's surrealism acts as a mirror, reflecting our own struggles to find meaning in a world where logic sometimes falls short.
Unexpected Ponderings:
This unconventional movie urges us to question the boundaries of our own realities. Are dreams simply a figment of imagination, or do they hold a deeper truth about our desires and fears?
Final Verdict:
Arizona Dream is an extraordinary voyage into the recesses of the human mind. It defies traditional storytelling and embraces the enigmatic allure of dreams. Though it may leave us with more questions than answers, this film reminds us that sometimes, it's the journey itself that matters, not the destination. So, buckle up and prepare for an eccentric, mind-expanding adventure through the heart of Arizona Dream

Boh, che ne so? TRANSLATION I had a friend who told me once, you know when I meet a new person to figure out if I like this person or what kind of person they are, I ask if they have seen the movie Black Cat White Cat by Kusturica and according to the answer I figure out what kind of person they are. This was his way of judging new friendships, a somewhat strange way. It also reminded me of a friend of mine, from another part of the world, who instead had told me that after seeing the movie Un cuento chino, I don't know how to pronounce it in Spanish, that in Italian it's translated, Piovono cose dal cielo, I think something like that, [in English 'Chinese takeway'] she always made all her friends watch it, because according to her it was such a good movie that you always have to see it together and she had already seen it, I don't know dozens of times, by the way we had also seen it together. It is a strange attitude this towards movies, so to take a movie as an expression of what we like or what we believe in and even as a term of comparison, as a sieve to see which people we like and that is from the reaction. It's also kind of a dangerous thing, I think, because personally I go by periods, there are periods when ... It's like with books: what's your favorite book? IDK, what do I know? It depends on what I just read and what I liked. And also with movies. There are some movies that leave me, make a big impact on me as soon as I see them, but then it's not like they stay with me for years and years, for decades. And instead then instead there are some other movies that stay with me, even though maybe in the moment when I saw them they didn't have that emotional impact. Then what is the emotional impact of a movie? A movie that makes you cry? A movie that makes you laugh? Movies that provoke laughter, just good belly laughter, it's been a very long time since I've seen any, in fact really I can't even remember what was the last movie I saw that made me laugh ahahahahahahah as they say, to tears. Crying, I don't usually cry at the movies I'm not moved. So no, usually the movies that strike me are the ones that disturb me, the ones that make me think, the ones that then come back to me, maybe at night when I can't sleep, maybe they come back to me with images that I didn't quite understand. Here, are the movies that I like are the ones that I don't really understand and I keep processing month after month, year after year. But I don't think I would ever use a movie to see the reactions of friends and decide on our friendship.

Black Cat White Cat (1998), in Romani titled Crna machka, beli machor, is a romantic comedy set in a Romani community on the border between Serbia and Bulgaria. The dialogue is a mix of Romani, Bulgarian, and Serbian, as the characters are fluent in all three languages. This makes it a linguistically unique movie (to my knowledge.)
This has got to be just about the funniest god damn movie ever made. The characters are each vibrant and unique, and the way they play off each other is like no other movie on planet earth. The acting is all phenomenal, especially the performances by the diverse animal actors (of course, animal actors always have perfect performances, which is why the best movies have lots of them.)
The story follows the interplay of three compelling romantic couples (two human, one cat), who all have such incredible chemistry together that you can’t help but feel engaged. The sets and costumes are amazing, every space is filled with so much artistry and detail, you never run out of things to look at, and each scene brings a new hilarious surprise or ironic turn of events that will keep you guessing.
I really can’t recommend this one enough. It’s so far and away one of the best movies I've ever seen, really it’s impossible not to love.

Michael Flynn and Jill Stein having lunch with Vladimir Putin a year after he conquered Crimea
Tumblr media
This is at a celebration event for the 10-year anniversary of the founding of Russia Today, which ought to be called Pravda 2.0. The fact that Flynn went on to unironically believe in QAnon(no, that's not something the left made up, he's sold merch related to it and been on podcasts that push it) and that Stein went on to simp for Maduro in Venezuela and Castro in Cuba doesn't really that surprising anymore, at least not to me. Here they are almost a decade ago, cozying up to the man who'd just conquered the Crimean peninsula and provoked the Donbas Conflict. The third Western politician there, Willy Wimmer, is a former member of the German Bundestag with a long history of denouncing NATO whenever it decided to do its job. And no, he's not a member of Die Linke or AfD, he was a Christian Democrat. Why they let him stay in the party when the party itself was so committed to the alliance I'll never know.
So, Green Party voters, lemme ask-are you alright with voting for a candidate so accepting of dictators? And to anyone familiar with Emir Kusturica and/or his work, the hell is a film director doing here?

Masterclass by Emir Kusturica in Athens 🤩 I know he’s a Serbian and it makes all the sense in the world but he really hates Americans (and postmodernism) 😅

funny story:
i eventually made it to the kusturica lecture. after half an hour of waiting, nothing. one hour, nothing. then something happens and it seems like the event is going to start except some random dude goes on stage instead of kusturica. people from the festival staff say they don't know anything, i get very colorful in expressing how much i don't care about the random dude (an actor) in front of his manager and three ladies who are rooting for me and a young desk lady who finds me entertaining i guess because she then says ah you know who's the organiser? the old man in the first row with white hair and blue jacket and i am like (:< thanks and run into the hall without any intention to do anything but that's scary enough apparently for the front dudes to admit kusturica wasn't coming today.
long story short i thought i was lucky to do something nice today but i wasn't. good things don't happen to me. peace and love.
