watching the gmmtv live while at work was a struggle but i managed it and my lab work so here’s my takeaways:

1. gmmtv, after conquering the japanese in the last part of the announcements, has now moved on to south korea. from what i gauged, only scarlet heart is a remake (of scarlet heart ryeo im guessing?) but the dark dice (or whatever it was called) i feel like is based off a manhwa and if not is heavily inspired by those kind of shows that have been popular in south korea (im thinking night has come, pyramid game etc)

2. gmmtv doesn’t want to give us serious, romantic plots. i can literally group all these announcements into 2 types of shows; fluffy, light rom-coms or dark-themed thriller-esque shows. that’s it. sometimes you’ll mix a little of one into the other, but for the most part, that’s what all these shows are, with the exception of the gl, us the series, and maybe thame-po as i don’t think it’s giving such a silly, comedic vibe as the rest of the lighter shows do. and that’s my main disappointment, bc it’s not like they haven’t done it before, im thinking of atots, last twilight, moonlight chicken- and no, it doesn’t escape me that these are all p’aof shows, but just bc he’s not directing, it doesn’t mean we should have to lose this style of show.

im not as disappointed as i thought i would be, but im also not particularly shocked or bowled over by anything. but ive learned before that i shouldn’t disregard shows so early so I’ll give everything a chance and hope i can get my desperately needed dose of pure romance somewhere else (japan and taiwan im looking at you)

BL tumblr getting all up in arms about glasses is always super funny to me I have watched movies/shows from India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong over the close to three decades of my life and Asian shows are often my primary form of entertainment.

The only time glasses weren’t code for ugly was when the character was either 1) a detective/scholar and even then they had to be older (I mean like 50+ min) and most definitely male or 2) serial killer

If they’re not wire-rimmed aka barely visible the glasses WERE going to come up in some way and most likely removed. And even then only Japan and specifically Bengali shows from specifically Kolkata ever deigned to even put their leads in glasses with any regularity when it wasn’t directly relevant to plot. (but im also fairly certain that Kolkata Bengalis can get wet off of a really good CV asdfghj)

Like it’s so rare in fact that the only character that I can think of off the top of my head who was wearing glasses AND was supposed to be entirely fuckable within the narrative is Fukuyama Masaharu in that Galileo movie and even then he was wearing the wire-rimmed glasses and I’m pretty sure he was meant to appeal to only like sexually frustrated housewives (this was either the vibe or my moms reaction to him clued me in). You know why I don’t remember exactly? Because this was TEN YEARS AGO. In ten years I can think of but one character that was meant to be hot in glasses in an Asian show I had watched.

I have hope for Ten because he is indeed a scholar and a man even though he’s a little young but what are we without hope after all? However, I’m not going to hold my breathe over it girl I need that oxygen.

well............it's a long story- okay not really, i think it has to do with the fact that china is my favorite character jsjs like even as of now, three years later in the fandom i'm still obsessed with him ,,o_o,, and knowing all that and adding how constant i am with oc x canon you get; argchu, the rarest argentina-related ship xddd it was like that in the beggining, but it was only reciently that i decided to look a little deeper to get new info about the irl relations of said countries, and it went surprisingly great! it's actually a very sucessful and beneficial for both parts (ignoring all the conspiracies oh lord--) i swear that many of the articles and pdfs i got to read remarked how friendly and close the two countries were to one another, the word partners being used quite a lot... LAST YEAR THEY COMMEMORATED THE 50 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH A VIDEO CONTEST LIKE- WHAT THE HELL-

but anyway, irl stuff aside, i think both china and argentina are a cute ship (at least....in my take on it) because despite all their differences they still manage to keep in contact and get along, they're antipodes (geographically) and opposites (personality-wise) but overall, they're partners :3

hi! your blog has been so helpful as i’ve gotten (well, fell) into BL this year! i’ve been trying a bit of everything, and originally thought that i’d only really like high heat shows, as physical chemistry is key to me when it comes to liking a pair or show.

however, i’m starting to realize that physical chemistry isn’t necessarily codependent on higher heat for me, it’s more about the tension and the few moments it does happen, it truly elevates the storyline in an emotional way. so i’ve been branching out more based on some of your recs, and that brings me to the two things i am currently screaming about:

1. old fashioned cupcake, holy shit. i could go on forever about what this means as someone discovering queerness later than my friends. but the sensual food imagery and pure want of togawa just hit it out of the park for me. and of course the desperation of the kiss and casually putting your thumb in your boss’ mouth.

2. the main reason im writing you this ask: i just finished the confession scene in Light on Me (when shin woo’s texts all come through, the “i’ll continue to think about you”) and i can’t lie i teared up. your recommendation post put me on it as i loved your descriptions of the directing and the chemistry of the love triangle. i was hesitant at first, but dammit if i’m not obsessed.

i didn’t think korean BL’s would impact me as much as thai/taiwanese ones, but man do they know how to make a pretty picture complete with great acting and beautiful shots. i’ve seen you answer other asks about this and the future of KBLs , so that’s all i’ll say on that :)

I hear ya. I feel this too. I think there is a distinction between High Heat and all around Good Chemistry. I mean there are some that do both (MaxTul, MewGulf, SCOY, Zee, lots of stuff from Taiwan) but then there are some that are pretty tame or sweet (low heat) but manage to really transmit chemistry like Old Fashion Cupcake.

YESSSSS!!! Light on Me is such a good BL. I am so glad you have it a chance. This one highlights a love triangle conflict that is about chemistry, now that I think about it. Intellectual chemistry (TaeKyung and GaOn) versus emotional chemistry (TaeKyung and ShinWoo) with almsot no physical chemistry at all. It's Korea at it's best.

If you haven't yet but are willing to continue to try KBL, I recommend Semantic Error, Blueming, and To My Star. They are all also good at this. (Give TMS a chance, it doesn't happen until the end.)

Yeah I got some human names! Some notes:

I'm writing down those that either have human names already, at least fleshed out enough that I feel comfortable putting them here, or what names I use for canon characters!

Keep in mind because family names and stuff have a lot of cultural and historical context and weight that's uniquely hard to research and learn about (esp when you lack an insider perspective) and because I have five million OCs I usually restrict myself to just personal names

Their post was basically: "Vil's character is effective as a cishet man but effeminate because the point of Chap 5 is fighting against the current and staying true to yourself."

But they turn around and say shit like—"anyone who does not view Twisted Wonderland in the same lens of a 'unrealistic progressive' more commonly 'expected' in Western cartoons are shunned"

What in hell's name is that supposed to mean???

First I'm gonna start off by saying that Vil being hc'ed as transfem, transmasc, nonbinary, demiboy, or just a plain ass white boy who wears makeup in his freetime and fears potatos won't change Vil fundamentally—he's a character in a game about fantastic mental breakdowns due to systems that they cannot control and can only find peace in themselves and support from their friends..

Many genderqueer ppl find him relatable bc being gnc is apart of his character, instead of it being just a one off thing— he doesn't view masculinity and femininity as two fucking boxes the whole human population has to fall into—and he isn't made fun of for it in the story as much. (Outspoken feminine coded people face more flak in fandoms)

You whining about people making him trans does nothing, changes nothing, isn't a new take, isn't hot,, just lackluster, and old as shit. I've seen too many posts that boil down to shit like this and have others cosign it— stop that shit, real talk.

last book you hated reading: to be honest, there wasn't really any books it hated reading? kind of weird to say but if I had to choose a book I didn't enjoy reading it'll be station eleven (lol im going to get so much hate im so sorry to my english teacher) maybe it wasn't my style of genre I would prefer to read, I had to say reading through that book was a little difficult for me.

Hetalia Headcannons: HongIce Edition

Scenario #1:

Okay so I have a headcannon that one character (Probably Korea) accidentally tells Iceland that Hong Kong is a combination of Norway and Denmark.

I mean think about it. He is just as apathetic and emotionless on the outside as Norway, but inside we know he a kind of wild personality like Denmark.

*Cue Iceland Freaking Out*

Basically Iceland starts avoiding Hong Kong.

He starts declining his calls and basically locks himself in his room.

Lol I also imagine him freaking out and staying stuff like: “I feel like I’m dating my brother now!”

Hong Kong gets super confused and worried.

Eventually Hong Kong finds out that it was Korea that caused Iceland to freak out and avoid him.

Hong Kong gets pissed....

(Keep in mind that Hong Kong is very apathetic so pissing him off is a huge event..)

Imagine Hong Kong coming home and being like:

“IM GONNA KILL YOU!”

And Korea just starts running for his dear life because he knows that Hong Kong found out.

And basically Hong Kong chases Korea around the house. He eventually catches him and....

Bonus:

After South Korea tells Iceland that, Taiwan or someone basically just looks at him with a face of horror that say:

“What have you done...”

Because apparently a lot of people realized this before... and didn’t say anything.
