the thing about people who routinely prefer secondary couples to the main ones is that i don't think they would enjoy them if they did have more screen time, development, main couple treatment, etc. because if they, again, routinely prefer secondary couples, i think it's unlikely to be because every single main couple ever just magically "didn't do it for them".

the real appeal is that secondary couples are underdeveloped in text and consist of two characters with very surface-level personalities. this allows one to come up with infinite intricate headcanons, scenarios, and opinions of pretty much any variety that easily slot into canon. the "he wouldn't say that" phenomenon (as controversial as it is in the first place) pretty much does not exist when coming up with those and that is what some people prefer. hell, sometimes main characters who do have unique, highly specific personalities, circumstances, views, etc. get diluted by fandom in order to fit a certain mould. and, in that way, for people who do tend to do that, secondary couples are perfect fanfiction material because they don't even require any diluting.

basically, what i'm trying to say is that i don't think that secondary couple lovers want full-fledged characters created by someone else in the first place. they kind of just want dolls they can play with. which is totally fine! but, you know. needs to be understood and acknowledged.

(and once again, just to make sure i am not misunderstood on the piss on the poor website, i am talking about people who prefer secondary couples most if not all of the time - NOT people who have gotten into one or two randomly, which ironically enough usually happens because the premise is interesting and they wish it got explored more, meaning this post is literally describing the opposite of that experience)

Not people saying “Fandom has always been like this” in that vent post I made. No. It hasn’t always been like this. Fandom has NEVER been like this until recently and if you were in fandom pre-tumblr purge, pre-twitter, pre-netflix boom, pre-tiktok….then you would fucking know it was nothing like this.

We still had the drive to create. We still sold prints and charms and made zines…but it was never like this.

The introduction of streaming, binge shows that drop all at once, tiktok and vine RIP i still love u vine but you were the beginning of a particularly ugly era) creating this bite sized, quick paced ‘content’ era of creation and it bled out into fucking everything else.

Fandoms didn’t die down when the show ended or the season was over. You didn’t mass unfollow artist, writers or moots just because they changed fandoms. There wasn’t this need to please the algorithm in order for your posts to get seen by people and enjoyed.

Fandoms used to last YEARS. Star Trek is literally the oldest running fandom out there and you got people in there that could care less about the new stuff and still have been happily prancing through their fucking fifty year old fandom today. Hell, even SPN after all it’s fuckups and shitshows has a dedicated fanbase STILL creating tons of art and fic.

There is no patience anymore. No calm feeling of taking in fandom and friends at a pace that which doesn’t make you stressed and is still fun.

Do I blame fandom for this? Of course not, but people are complacent with it and start changing their vocab to accommodate and end up making the situation so deep it cant be fixed.

We call Art & Fic Content now, completely stripping the value of what it is to a level of consumerism instead of personal entertainment & community bonding.

I’m the most beautiful count has to be the best first episode of a BL I’ve seen in a while. It hits so many notes so so well, a light hearted comedy romance harem show with a ladyboy main character acutely experiencing gender policing and punishment in the past AND present.

The lightness of it never really takes away from the gravity of the situation because the MC is who they are and injecting comedy and lightheartedness is their personality - just the way Prince handles their wake up in the past is absolutely brilliantly done, such a novel yet important representation of that confident ladyboy character, usually pushed to the side for occasional comedy relief, getting to take center stage and tell you a heartfelt story about the crazy stupid thing they are experiencing in an already hard world - and it’s absolutely brilliant and you should watch it

This moment is stunning. I'll never recover. I don't even want to. Seeing a queer wedding is one thing, but a wedding honoring their country's traditional customs just resonates so much more deeply. Even as a foreign viewer. Because it underscores that those rituals and customs belong to queer people, too.

And I think that moment is only matched by this one:

Because queer couples can have a ceremony even when it isn't legal. The fact that the series finishes on a shot of their legal marriage licenses with a kiss to top it off is just…really, truly a sign that this was in every way a passion project. :')

Like, they say this was a gift to Peraya, but it was just as much a small tribute to the place in queer history that KristSingto themselves hold.
