I think a great piece of advice for people who want to learn, but don’t know what to learn, is to take advantage of Wikipedia.
However, the second half of this advice is use that specific feature where some words are highlighted, and fall into rabbit holes. The best part about this is you don’t have to have anything super specific to search.
Say, for example, I was in the mood for some ELA type stuff, but I don’t know what kinds of stuff there is. I simply go on Wikipedia and search English. Admittedly, that doesn’t bring up much, but there IS a blue link to a page about the English language.
From there, I can click on things like “Indo-European language family” and “early Medieval England” and “British Empire” if I’m in the mood for more history things. Or, if I really want to learn about words, I can click the vocabulary section, or the phonology section, or the orthography section, or even the grammar section.
There’s so much to be learned in this one broad category, and it’s the same for every other subject you learn in school, which is a great place to start.
Math (mathematics)? Empirical sciences, number theory, and set theory are just in the opening paragraph. Not to mention the sections titled “relationship with astrology and esotericism” and “symbolical notation.”
History? Well, from history we can get to History of Earth, and it’s not hard to guess how much is there. There’s also anything that could be the History of; History of Mankind, History of Dinosaurs, History of Philosophy, literally pretty much anything you could want to learn about is on Wikipedia.
The point is, Wikipedia is an amazing tool and source of knowledge. This strategy is a great way to actually access that knowledge. Have fun!

I love learning things cause why I recently find out that whales used to be land animals. That they come from the same family as cows, hippos, and camels.
Also that there is an ocean inside the Earth’s mantle but it isn’t liquid water. It’s inside these rocks called ringwoodite

I think it’s neat that the Phineas and Ferb characters aren’t into summer because they dislike learning or math or anything like that. These kids actually LOVE math & science & the arts. They love summer because it gives them more free time to work on personal projects using those skills

What are people even saying fiddleford did?? 😭 like what did he ever do wrong I can’t think of a single thing. maybe it’s bc I didn’t read the book yet
I think what is primarily being discussed in his case is a) he left his wife and b) he started a cult to erase people’s memories, generally nonconsentually.
Now we don’t actually know all that much about fiddlefords relationship with his wife, there are things that suggest he maybe wasn’t prioritising his family when he was with Ford (I.e. the Christmas presents) but I think it’s unfair to write off someone’s headcanon or theory as “wrong” when there’s no definite answer.
The cult is probably definitely a bad.
BUT! What’s so revolutionary about Gravity Falls is that it has well written characters that are complex and with flaws. I think just about every main character does something bad or selfish at one point or another but it’s also always perfectly justifiable to the character too. There is always personal reason for their actions so nothing is technically black and white “bad”.
I’m not pointing fingers but I reckon some people who maybe aren’t so familiar with fandom spaces or consuming media in a more critical way seem to have a sort of mindset which means that in order for you to like a character they have to be entirely good (or bad - but if they’re bad you have to admit they’re bad and that’s why you like them). And of course people could also take the personal justification and turn it into actual justification.
A lot of the conflict in the show is morally ambiguous and the characters motives are generally easy to understand and even empathise with. Most people that genuinely enjoy the characters - or at least, speaking for myself - don’t excuse their flaws but enjoy the complexities of them!
All that to say, Fiddleford is literally me you guys <3

My auntie keeps Golden Guernsey goats on our island, like many of our local unique breeds of livestock they nearly went extinct in the starving during ww2 occupation surviving by only one smuggled flock. They're super friendly and energetic and their colouration might be of interest :eyes:
Oh OH these are very pretty

Everytime SQQ mentions how much of a lazy pretty boy he is an alarm in my head going "NO NO FALSE THATS SO WRONG" goes off in my head. Like, you're lying!! You're such a lier!! The moment you transmigrated you jumped head first in going above and beyond with your second life!! You know how I know?
...He hasn't done it because he had a twisted hobby inflicting corporal punishment upon the great male lead, but because he just couldn't endure it any longer. After taking over Luo Binghe's education, he'd mulled it over and decided that since he was to be a role model and worthy teacher, he ought to at least do some proper teaching. This way, after they fell out in the future, he would be able to utter the phrase, "Within a master-disciple relationship lies the grace of knowledge passed down," without reddening from shame before the words left his mouth. Volume 2 pg. 234.
SQQ went above and beyond, and honest to goodness, BECAME an actual attentive teacher. A good one at that apparently! His students adore and respect him, his colleagues see no fault in his teaching, no faults found among his community for years!
And we have proof that his teaching paid off with Luo Binghe specifically. Because earlier in volume 2 there is this whole thing about Shen Qingqiu being particular on teaching Binghe proper footwork and how to outmaneuver his enemies, which then cuts to Binghe using these particular skills against Shen Qingqiu and he's like "shit! He's using the stuff I taught him against me! And doing it flawlessly!"
Like, he didn't have to go all in and *literally* become a teacher/scholar/peak lord hybrid like SJ, and then also do every aspect of it ten times better. For funsies. For the immersion. But he did. Lazy my ass!
I mean, we already knew that SQQ was a lying lier who lies, but heres another example lmao.

The most illegal thing Koby has done is learn a divine language... Which is only a little bit more illegal than dating a God
So.
Thoughts on language/religion in regards to this au. They aren't fully fleshed out but I'll clean it up as I go.
Learning a divine language is kinda taboo, like, you can learn them, and it's certainly less frowned upon than poneglyph, but outward practice isn't really accepted. Many people who are religious or follow religious practices are well versed in divine languages, in order to feel closer to their respective Gods.
Besides, religion makes people feel at ease and the world government is pretty relaxed when it comes to punishing those for worshiping or following their Gods. With how many there are, and how deeply a lot of it is ingrained into so many cultures, it'd also be a pain in the ass to control both that and pirates.
Koby learns through the people he meets while traveling. A lot of them think it's odd but fascinating that a young, wide-eyed marine wants to learn something like that. They indulge him anyways.
He did get better at understanding the language but his pronunciation isn't great, kinda hard to make some of the sounds Luffy makes too. Especially when he isn't used to talking like that, nor are most people. Demigods have an easier time picking up on speaking the actual... Words?
Robin understands the language of the Gods, and the rest of the Straw Hats do pick up on it a little bit just through exposure to Luffy. Luffy isn't the greatest teacher, but having people who want to understand him is always exciting. He is thrilled when he meets up with Koby on Water 7 and Koby can understand him.

playing fallout new vegas and having to listen to caesar complaining about travelling and getting to study the languages of various communities living in the wasteland and calling it a waste of time while irl the humanities are constantly disregarded and getting a higher education and opportunities to study anthropology hands-on costs tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars and requires so many connections and he was just getting that FOR FREE from the followers but that wasnt cool enough for him so he decided to use the education he was given to start his little fascist larper group and enslave people
