Most recent brainrot is putting Kiwi and Oz into a modern AU. Monkey See, Monkey Do

Started out with Destined One frequenting the same bar to practice billard, while Oz is the resident pianist there and it just snowballed from there and now I have some backstories for those two idiots

5th year medicine student. 25 years old, he started with his study when he was 20, took two years to travel around

Lost his parents and older brother in a car accident. He barely survived and was hospitalized for a long time. Selective mute since then

Uncle Shen Monkey owns cocktail lounge / fancy bar called Flying Monkeys . Shen Monkey is also the barista also, and there are few pool tables available.

Kiwi spent a lot of his teen years playing billard, hence he is VERY good at it. Still goes to play and practice

Kiwi participates in local tournaments

also helps out at the lounge from time to time

Seems to be very popular among his peers despite being an introvert and loner??

his fellow students like him because when they ask him for help he gives it to them

the type that seems like a cold douche but will not hesitate to step in when he sees a woman being uncomfortable or being harrassed

kinda popular among the ladies, plus the fact that he looks really good when playing billard adds to it

probably gets asked out a lot, or phone numbers slipped into his bag

always rejects them because he got his sight set on someone else hehe

parents divorced when she was super young. Dad moved away and remarried and has a new family. She has two half-siblings

occassionaly talks with the half siblings, but has not much contact with her father. Mom had full custody and essentially raised her as a single mom

typical tiger mom. Loves her mom but has a strained relationship with her at the moment. low contact

Did not have many friends as a kid, mom had a tight grip on her and her time and education. Started making real friends once she moved out for university. Met Yù @marcu-bug, Birdie @dunanana, Liyu @s0rr3l and Beike @maiden-of-the-waters and they are pretty much her only friends LOL

Started having piano lessons as early on. Had good promises to be a concert pianist, but ofc that is not a viable career path as per her mom

Studied medicine only because her mom wanted her to. She was VERY MISERABLE during her time as a student. Dropped out during the practical years because the pressure was just too much for her and she realized being a doctor was just not what she wanted to do. She wasn't happy with it, hence also why her relationship with her mom is strained, cause Oz was THIS close to finishing and then decided to ""give up""

Also her then-boyfriend cheated on her she caught him in bed with another person

And her great-grandfather passed away

overall not a good year on her mental health. Realized all she did was just doing what other people wanter her to do. Dropped out to take a break and just figure out her place in this world

works as a pianist at Flying Monkeys after dropping out. Shen Monkey pays really well and she also gets very good tips because. Helps out at the bar on days when they are short staffed to make some more extra cash

Gets hit on few times at work, but luckily a certain monkey is always there to look out for her....

Kiwi bumped into Oz during his first year in univeristy. Probably when both needed to submit some paperwork for the univerity, Oz for dropping out. She noticed him carrying the newest comic issue of The Monkey King, and asked him about it

Learned really soon that he is a selective mute, but didn't treat him any differently and just carried on the conversation with him as usual, which he really appreciated

I wouldn't say it was love at first sight for him, more like the feeling you have when you're sitting in the plane and it is landing soon and you see the lights of your city below you and you know you are this close to home? Yeah it's that feeling.

anyway months passed and he hasn't seen her since then but she is always like there in the back of his mind

Uncle Shen Monkey telling him one day that he hired a new pianist which is nice cause they haven't had one in a while and that he wants Kiwi to be there to show her around the lounge a bit and stuff

Kiwi, not very happy about that because he doesn't really enjoy meeting new people, is then surprised to see that Oz is the new pianist his uncle hired.

Oz.... vaguely remembers him LOL. Probably takes her like a few weeks to go "hey.... have we met before???"

Suddenly Kiwi has a lot more time to be around his uncle's lounge again. Uncle Shen Monkey know what is up there. probably tries to play wingman

Enter the "and they were roommates" arc

Oz moved back to her mom but things are NOT good. lot's of fights

Kiwi overhearing one day how she asks Shen Monkey if he knows about any free rooms for rent to let her know

and whatdya know Uncle Shen Monkey does happen to know someone who has a free room

Kiwi. it's kiwi who has a free room that is sort of used as a storage at the moment. he doesn't mind Oz moving in there. Gives her a really good rent deal, where she is basically paying all the bills and that's it

Kiwi owns the apartment. His parents left a good amount of assets behind which he sold and then bought his own place

Oz is very grateful for the deal, because it helps her to save money and put aside to eventually move out and find her own place

spoiler alert that's not gonna happen lmfao

Oz has the room closes to the bathroom because Kiwi is nice like that. He'd move in an old piano in too for her to practice and play

at first Oz was very shy about playing because she doesn't want to disturb him when he is studying but he likes listening to her practice and play when he is studying

I think that before Oz moved in, Kiwi barely decorated the apartment much. The embodiment of only had the bare neccessaties in it. But once Oz moves in, it started to feel more like a home than just a housing for him to come back and pass out. I think the only real personal belonging he has is a good decent The Monkey King comic collectiona and collectibles

Definitely have a vinyl record player, something that Oz always wanted to have. She movied in with like five records in her collection, and Kiwi then gifted her a player, and the collection just grew from there

both are very much introverts, so they prefer to spend most of the time just chilling at home, on the couch together playing games or reading books

Oz does sometimes have her friends other to hangout

because both work crazy hours sometimes, Kiwi would go Flying Monkeys after his shift to pick Oz up and then they go home together

Kiwi doesn't know how to drive, never learned too traumatized from the accident. So Oz is the one who rents a car and drives when they decied to take trips together

Have a rule to put a sock on the door handle and text the other person to let them know when they have special guests at the palce

spoiler alert none of them ever bring any hook ups home lmfao

Oz does go on few dates but never brings anyone home because it just doesn't feel right

and Kiwi well, his heart belongs to only one person hehe

have weekly movie nights. Kiwi takes it personal if Oz binges a whole season without him

buy a cute lunch box/food containers to make sure your lunches are adorable.

figure out your health goals and create meal ideas from there. for example: i want to build muscle! that means you need more protein in your diet so plan meals and snacks with lots of protein sources to fit your goal.

chicken salad: mix chicken, avocado, tomato, cucumber, carrot, corn, salad leaves (lettuce, rocket etc). add mustard and lemon dressing, season well with salt and pepper and fresh dill. dessert: raspberries and blueberries served with peanut butter and greek yogurt.

tuna and avocado pita: mashed avocado and tuna, seasoned with salt and pepper, fill in pita along with rocket and pickle slices. dessert: pineapple and pomegranate fruit salad.

cold rice bowl: mix cooked salmon, rice, cucumbers, cooked broccoli and sliced carrot. sprinkle with sesame seeds and pepper and salt. garnish with a garlic mayo or homemade yogurt garlic sauce. dessert: chopped strawberries dipped in yogurt and coated in dark chocolate and coconut oil left to harden.

feta and turkey wrap: place lettuce, turkey, tomato in a wrap and sprinkle with feta, pepper and salt. dessert: sliced apple (squeeze lemon over to stop apple going brown) with peanut butter, greek yogurt and cinnamon dip.

cold pesto pasta salad: mix cooked penne pasta, homemade pesto, tomato, rocket, avocado, grated parmesan and season with salt and pepper. dessert: tangerine pieces and kiwi.

cold noodles: mix cooked noodles, shredded red cabbage and carrots, green onions, handful of crushed peanuts, chopped cucumber and cover with sesame peanut sauce. dessert: homemade blueberry banana oat muffin.

salmon bagel: add salmon, cream cheese (or cottage cheese), cucumber, rocket, lemon and pepper to a bagel. dessert: blackberries and mango.

a week of hot lunches:

pizza toast: spread homemade tomato sauce on a piece of sourdough bread, cover with mozzarella, add your favourite toppings such as ham, mushroom, olive, pepper etc and bake until cheese melted, serve with rocket. dessert: banana bread and greek yogurt.

stuffed aubergine (or eggplant): sauté aubergine, onion, garlic, pepper, zucchini and olive, add in tomato paste and season. put in aubergine and sprinkle with cheese. bake until cheese melted. dessert: sautéed apples served warm with yogurt and granola.

chicken meatballs: homemade chicken meatballs cooked with a soy based sauce and red peppers. serve with cooked rice. dessert: strawberry oat crumble.

gyozas: heat or make some gyozas and serve with a cucumber and carrot salad with soy sauce to dip. dessert: hot matcha tea with strawberries.

soup: make your favourite soup and serve with some warm sourdough toast. dessert: watermelon slices.

quesadilla style wrap: fill a whole wheat wrap with cheese, turkey, tomatoes and avocado. cook until cheese melted and warm. dessert: green grapes, blueberries and raspberries.

grilled chicken burrito bowl: mix grilled chicken, rice, avocado, black beans, corn, tomatoes, red onions, cilantro and sour cream with cooked rice and squeeze over lime and season as preferred. dessert: rice cakes with greek yogurt strawberries and melted dark chocolate.

This leads to Yeseo borrowing the human identity of Jesse Venetiaan in order to play third wheel and make both Cedric and Christelle fall in love ( Yeseo plan is doomed to fail )

So my question is what company jobs would each of characters work ?

I've actually thought about a similar question extensively for my own fanfic purposes hahaha — it's actually kinda hard, bc most charas (and by that I mean Yeseo and Ga-in) have canon jobs in different locations, so ig I can start by giving you theirs and then follow up with my opinion on how they'd work had they been in the same workplace!

In canon, Ham Ga-in Christelle studied Economics in university before going on to work at a financial company in Yeouido [ch737] (which is Seoul's main finance, media, and investment banking district) under a horrible manager/team leader whose Mercedes-Benz she kicks in anger after handing in her resignation xD (she would have isekai'ed into Christelle de Sarnez right after this event haha, but not in this AU naturally)

On Jung Yeseo's side, after leaving his previous job at a stressful company that flared up his gastritis (oof), he ended up working near Yeoksam Station in the Gangnam area on the legal team at 'SEOMBAEK', a mid-sized company that specialized in home appliances [ch304] (company motto is "To the Moon and Back!"). A bit of TMI but Yeseo lives east of Gangnam, in Jamsil, Songpa District — he commutes via subway from Jamsil Station to Yeoksam Station for work, since he doesn't have a license haha (Hyunseo is the only one who does, and he drives a KIA Morning). Also it should be noted that Yeseo remarks that he isn't an actual lawyer himself but works WITH lawyers (he graduated from Yonsei University without taking the bar exam, jumping straight into the workforce to help his brother), so I'm under the impression that he might be a corporate paralegal, but I'm not sure — there might be more info on this actually in the ongoing sidestories, but i havent caught up in a while ough,,, You can just be vague about him being in the company legal team xDD

Oh and in the images below, you can see the Yeouido island where Ga-in works clearly in the 2nd image with the highlighted Gangnam District where Yeseo's company is — the two of them canonically worked somewhat far from each other in Seoul, and definitely did not live in the same district, but since this is an AU, we don't have to follow canon strictly haha

In a Same Workplace Modern AU, I like to think that instead of joining her crappy Yeouido financial company or after quitting it, Ga-in would end up joining SEOMBAEK in its own finance team! It's a pretty laid-back company with an infinitely better atmosphere, and Finance Team member Ga-in and Legal Team member Yeseo (in canon he's an Assistant Manager/Deputy Section Chief (대리)!) would have probably ended up meeting each other at some point 🙌

NOW FOR CÉDRIC...... Cédric is actually where it gets a bit more complicated since we don't have any trivia to help haha. Obviously since it's Cédric Riester—Crown Prince and Tall Dark n Brooding RoFan Male Lead extraordinaire—we probably expect him to be in some sort of modern equivalent position. Although assuming he's 24 years old in this AU (to Ga-in's 31 and Yeseo's 28), I feel he's way too young for a CEO or executive position. HOWEVER, his mother would absolutely be the Executive Chairman of her own company, and I feel in preparation for him someday taking over her RIESTER Group—which would be a conglomerate of several subsidiary companies (the IRL Samsung Group is definitely being referenced here lmao)—Cédric would build up his work experience in one of these subsidiary companies as a Department Head, and perhaps later on Vice-President/President of the company (in this case it would be SEOMBAEK, which is feel is fitting, bc RIESTER Group definitely would be into technology and other business ventures in a variety of things, and I personally believe Modern AU Cédric would have done a something like a Double Major in Business/Finance and Engineering (or additionally, would have a Masters in Biomedical Engineering or anything else Medicine, which is a newer opinion of mine after reading what he does in the side stories... 🥹)

Which specific department Cédric becomes Head of is up to you, but if you want to facilitate interactions with either Ga-in or Yeseo/Losna, it would probably be Finance or Law (but Finance might be more fitting). I also think having both Cédric and Ga-in in Marketing could also work—in canon, Ga-in has proven herself to be quite an impressive and persuasive saleswoman while working undercover at a clothing shop lmao, so I bet her charm, charisma, and creativity could bloom in Marketing too xD

It would work out since I think Jesse Losna—had he worked in a modern company—would have been an Assistant Manager as well, only in Marketing instead of the Legal team where Yeseo is. Idk why, Losna just gives off the vibe of a Marketing Team office crush (Yeseo is definitely one too in canon, he gets invited by coworkers out to eat all the time and I find it so funny bc they are also clearly interested in his love life xDD). But in your AU, if Yeseo takes over a supposed Marketing Team member Jesse, I feel Yeseo might struggle a bit. He's a former Yonsei law student though and through, for sure, and it shines through his characterization!!!!

ANYWAYS YEAH!!!!!!! These are just my simmering thoughts that I regurgitated from previous Modern AU fic brainstorming, so I hope they were helpful to you in any way, even if just a bit 🥹🥲👍

Today started with b/p. Fun. But I still had breakfast and i tried to enjoy it as much as i could. Lunch was kinda heavy and it was kinda weird (consistency-wise) but it was good so that's nice !!

I was happy this morning I think. I had the snack in the park and chilled a bit on my own after walking there, it was cool! Now (after lunch) i'm feeling kinda empty. Tbf I forgot two doses of my meds. anyway

Slept a bit in the sun on the balcony. Feeling very dazed(?). Had the snack and regret it a lot. I kinda sh'ed again, (and then i "actively" sh'ed. imagine i'm staring at a camera) idk. I don't know how i feel at all. I overdid it with the drops this afternoon, i was hoping to be able to sleep more but couldn't :( sad

I ate random sweets after the afternoon snack and i fucking hate myself. i'm so tired, tho i didn't purge dinner even if i wanted to and that's cool i think! i binged tho. that sucks. and i couldn't purge cus my dad was getting passive-aggressive and i hate him when he's like that. i hope at least he is happy that i didn't purge cus i have ruined tomorrow before it could even start.

04/06/2025 Progress Update:

TLDR: 2K drafted for ch 6, close to 17K drafted so far

Wahoo we got past the section that I was having some writer's block with, so I'm counting this day as a writing win! About 2K written, draft for ch 6 is close to 17K. I think that's a little less than what would be expected from my tumblr updates, but it's because I've been slowly removing chunks of the Rantaro conversation lmao. It..... is killing me. Fucking Rantaro conversation.

Speaking of, we got to the point OF Rantaro conversation in drafting, I just need to do a couple more pieces of dialogue to connect. Then I gotta.... look over it again. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I struggle every day with this stupid dialogue exchange. NO IT'S NOT STUPID KIWI STOP IT I just have reworked it so many times that it's frustrating me. It also is like... one of the most important conversations in this fic and I NEED it to be perfect. It is this conversation that will drive some really important things in end-game and holds some even more important foreshadowing- in other words, I slave over this conversation because the necessity of it for the continuation of this fic CANNOT be overstated.

Maybe it's annoying for me to mention this stupid conversation so much lmao, so I'm sorry if it is. Legitimately I have put so much into this conversation so I sometimes need to yap about it.

Anyway, I changed around the poker stuff just a little bit. I initially went into this chapter wanting X amount of poker rounds, but realized it was too much and so went down to Y amount of poker rounds and condensed some stuff. I really, really enjoy writing poker but I know that's not exactly the focus of this thing, so I'm intentionally limiting myself. I'm honestly considering just writing a saiou poker one-shot one day and going absolute HAM just so I can scratch this saiou poker itch, 'cause I don't think it's appropriate to do that in this fic.

This is earlier than I would normally do my updates, but I'm so exhausted and stressed for tomorrow's workday that I'm going to take the next couple hours to play some video games. I haven't legit sat down to play a video game for a while (other than like a round of mario kart or two) so I'm going to TRY to enjoy some Binding of Isaac: Repentance rounds (as tainted lost, so I mean enjoyment is fleeting).
