IN HONOR OF KINGS ISLAND NOW BEING OPEN, I've decided to do another ✨Kings Island lore post✨, this time moving over to Area 72 in order to talk about the Project X Initiative!
Feel free to speak up and ask me anything if you want further elaboration or have anything in particular you want me to talk about! This can be in the comments or through an ask, whatever you feel more comfortable with!
Now with all of that out of the way, sit back, relax, and mentally prepare yourself. The ramble shall begin after the cut!
The first time we are introduced to the Project X initiative is on July 2, 2020 when Orion first opened. It's mentioned by name in the description of the video "Orion: New for 2020 at Kings Island" on Kings Island's YouTube channel (which can be found here -> https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sNV6lnyv2s0) It says:
"Themed to the park's new Area 72, the ride features the latest prototype vehicle developed by the Project X Initiative. Scientists are in a race against time to develop technology capable of weaving transport vehicles through a coming meteor storm and traveling to a new planet within the Orion constellation. For the program to be successful, it needs volunteers to help with testing."
So if Orion is the latest prototype vehicle developed by the Project X Initiative, then there had to be more from before that, right? CORRECT!
Orion is actually Sequence X of the Project X Initiative! The full 10 sequences are as follows:
Sequence I - Shooting Star-47, Study of Astrology & Rapid Directional Changes
Sequence II - The Rotor-72, Study of Centrifugal Forces & Gravity Centrifugal Effects
Sequence III - Bayern Kurve-73, Study of Interstellar Travel & Acceleration
Sequence IV - Zodiac-75, Study of Symmetry & Radial Forces
Sequence V - SkyLab-86, Study of Gravitational Pull
Sequence VI - Vortex-87, Study of Inversions & Inversion Effects
Sequence VII - Flight of Fear-96, Study of Acceleration & Sensory Deprivation
Sequence VIII - Invertigo-99, Study of Balance & Motion Pull
Sequence IX - Firehawk-07, Study of Maneuvering/Evasive Maneuvers
Sequence X - Orion-20, Study of Time Space
Are any of these names sounding familiar? They should! They're the names of Kings Island attractions, both past and present! And the numbers after them are references to the years that those rides opened!
All of these different "Sequences" can be found throughout Orion's queue, particularly on the fake pin board on the Fast Lane side of the queue where you'll find posters for each of them & on the wall next to the front row line for the ride itself in the station. For the station one, I'll put an image below:
The first time we were clued in on any of this "Project X Initiative" stuff was on the construction fence for Orion back when it was being built. Every once in a while, the park would put up a poster with one of it's rides (past or present) on it (which ended up being Sequences I-IX) with a faint letter in the background. Eventually, with a hashtag made up of QR codes in the front of it, it spelled out "#TETOWAWKI," which for those of you who were following Orion's teaser developments, ended up standing for "The End Of The World As We Know It." The QR code hashtag led you to a petition on Change.org by "Concerned Citizen" who talks about how Kings Island needs to reveal what's behind the wall for the safety of the public. Concerned Citizen even got a signature from a Mr. Christopher...fans of Flight of Fear will know that name...
(Here's a link to the Change.org petition in case you want to check that out for yourself: https://www.change.org/p/kings-island-kings-island-what-s-behind-that-fence-85f62e10-4170-437b-9cc3-ae87d9973b45?recruiter=987799620&recruited_by_id=fd9dc1d0-b26b-11e9-87b8-9b832214eee5&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=petition_dashboard&utm_content=bandit-starter_cl_share_content_en-us%3Av4)
Honestly, the #TEOTWAWKI/Orion teaser campaign is so interesting and lore heavy that I'll probably end up making a post on it in the future at some point XD
And that's it for this KI lore post! Again, feel free to let me know if there's anything in particular you want me to touch upon! And if you're ever looking for any of my other KI lore posts, they can be found under the tag #kings island lore. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Oh Baby…Pain is Pleasure – Part 3
Late afternoon had seen the sun burn the remainder of the clouds from the sky, leaving a beautiful blue horizon view from across the backyard. Flocks of birds gathered as they headed over the break line, waving in and out of the smoke coming from our BBQ pit.
I sat, gently rocking my feet back and forth on the chair egg swing we had attached to one of the older grand oak trees in our yard. It was all I had wanted when we moved in, somewhere calm and content where I could just exist. Enjoy my time, enjoy my life, and admire the world around me. Ponder life’s big questions…
‘LOCKER WITNESSES’
I re read that message repeatedly in my mind, who was it from? witnessed what?
I had deleted the other text from my phone, I wasn’t going down that road.
The sounds of two men’s deep voices bought me back, looking over to my lovers I could see Finn & Damien adorned in their matching ‘TOP CHEF’ aprons and cooking utensils with a beer in hand, either chatting away or debating about how best to cook the chicken.
Whilst further down on the sun loungers, Rhea had stripped down to one of her thin black bikinis with the metal skull clip fastenings, she was catching the last of the sunrays to her already perfect Sunkissed skin. Christ, how did I get so lucky as to be a part of this incredible love…. Pentagon? It’s a five-way love triangle, let’s leave it at that.
When we had been initially searching for a house to buy, one to really call home that is; we had all had something in mind we desperately wanted as a feature. We knew it needed to be a big house, one with a master bedroom where we could assemble out two King size beds that had been custom made to attach in the middle, I cannot begin to tell you how comfortable and comforting it is being held close and safe by the four people you love more than anything in the world.
The guilt though…
Still, obviously Rhea & Finn were dead set on having a large garage/ open internal space to set up the home gym. Of course, whilst on the road we still used a lot of public gyms and one-off hotel workout rooms here and there, but when we are at home, in each other’s company, away from the world, the fans, all that attention. It is so lovely knowing we don’t have to leave our little safe haven.
Damian had specifically made it clear he wanted a huge kitchen, open planned that backed into a dinning area. When we moved in, he had taken the time to build up a barista style coffee corner and a breakfast station on the central island. Then with Finn’s help, they worked on a D.I.Y project together to design and create a full bar set up next to the table and chairs where we ate. They had eventually given in and allowed Dom to help with the painting of the bar, because he wanted to be a ‘DIY Man’ too.
The boys always referred to it as the lad’s corner, a custom-built wooden bar that was painted a deep tranquil green and black with illuminated LED letters on the wall; ‘ALL RISE, ALL DRINK’. That however did not stop Rhea and I from emptying some of those back bar bottles on one of many messy nights! For some reason, whenever Rhea breaks out the Tequila, we always end up playing strip twister… Odd.
Dominick, of course… wanted a gaming room. Not just any gaming room mind you, a ‘Mens” gaming room.
*Sigh*
Problem is he is just so adorable at times, and we all give in, he had been granted his request of course! Although Priest put his foot down when Dom had asked for an indoor arcade style basketball hoop game, he was allowed a hoop outside but that was it. We had all seen enough broken windows during the season when Finn had tried to teach Damien and Dominick how to play golf.
It still makes me laugh when the boys talk about how they would feel guilty that they were off spending time together, while Rhea and I would miss out? Ha. Little did they know when they buggered off to do ‘man’s stuff’ we girls would high tail it upstairs to the family bathroom and strip off into the bathtub for some… girl’s time. *Wink Wink*
I remember one morning; Rhea and I were standing in the arched doorway at the crack of dawn waving the boys off as they set out on an early start to play a full days Golf. Leaning into her chest I rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes as she bent her head down and nuzzled her lips into the crook of my neck.
“I tell you now Y/N, I would rather run the risk of drowning when we get in that bathtub, and I bury my face deep in your pussy… then stand in a damp field hitting a stick at a ball.” Her teeth nipped at the skin of my ear lobe and my entire body melted at her touch.
Christ the things that woman does to me.
A loud crash had bought me back to reality, Dom had been trying to carry a tray of drinks out to the garden for us all but had tripped over some excess weigh plates we had left outside, sending the poor lad flying arse over tit.
“Shit! God damn it, ow fuck!” Dom pulled himself up to his knees, swiping the drinks tray away in frustration before noticing blood trickling down his arm from the glasses that he had smashed across the decking. He was quick to freeze, unable to process what to do next or how to stand up safely.
Rhea was quick to make her way over to him from the sun lounger, followed by Damian who handed Finn his spatula and beer before rushing over to help the poor lad.
I know, I know I should have been focused on the fact that the boy I loved so much needed some help, some TLC, compassion, and support…
But I am only human.
And Rhea Bloody Ripley….
Running….
In a mini black laced bikini…
Slightly wet from the heat of the sun touching her skin, God how she glistened. How she got my motor running and…
Finn had noticed my distraction and whistled loudly, gathering my attention.
“Aye! Lass, enough of that! Go... Take a lap!” He gestured, pointing to the end of the field in our garden. The yard stretched about 1/4 of a mile down and was cut off by the woodland. One of my favorite things about this house was the nature that came with it. It all felt so…natural and back down to earth compared to the chaos and mayhem at WWE.
Pointing his BBQ tongs and Damian’s spatula at me, Finn raised his eyebrow.
“No distractions, ya hear!”
I tried not to laugh at his remark, turning my face away to hide my snicker and rolling my eyes. I was still wearing my gym gear from before; except I had nabbed one of Dominick’s merch shirts on the way to the garden from the drying rack, I was self-conscious about my stomach, and I liked to hide my body where I could.
“Did you just roll your eyes at me?!” Finn sternly questioned me as he put the utensils down.
At this point Rhea was taking Dom inside through the double doors, whilst Damian stood back up and turned in my direction.
Fuck… they are hot when they get all dominant.
“Mi Vida, did you roll your eyes?” Damian’s words were colder, flat, and prominent. I could tell he was almost looking for a reason to get me upstairs into the bedroom. Christ I was half tempted to give him a solid reason.
Put me across your lap Papa Priest, let me feel the strength between your thighs and lay it into me Goddamn it!
The devil on my shoulder sang its heart out at the idea, but I remembered earlier when Finn has spun the actions back against me. Leaving me alone and sexually frustrated I thought better of the situation.
“Me? I would never…” I said quite obnoxious/sarcastically and smiled that cheeky brat look at them before hopping up off the tree swing. I could see Damian trying not to break or give in… but a slight smirk crept into the corner of his lips.
“I’m going to take a lap!” I stated and grinned before making a run for it, heading down and out of sight from the lads. I had a much better plan in mind to deal with my frustrations when I got in the shower later anyway.
I was out of breath by the time I got back towards our street, less than a ¼ mile to go! I had decided to go for a proper run to clear my mind. A good few miles should do the trick, that’s what Rhea always said! With my headphones in and a decent playlist on, nothing was going to stop me!
One foot after another I pressed on, sweat dripping down my neck I desperately tried to Shake off all that nervous energy I had built up now that WrestleMania was less than 2 weeks away. I had been on edge at times, and it showed when I trained in the ring with Rhea and Dom. Running back-to-back moves, counters, pins, and submissions, it was like every time I thought I had learnt it someone would come along and wipe my slate clean, and I knew nothing again.
Maybe I wasn’t ready to be a champion?
Maybe I was out of my depth?
Rhea should be in this match not me.
Me? Y/W/N? Was I really cut out to be a champion?
I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket as I continued running. I tried looking at my smart watch as I ran, though it was tricky to focus on a smaller screen.
I could see a couple messages from Finn stating the food was ready, one from Damian also telling me the food was ready, one from Dom telling me he was going to eat my hot dog if I didn’t hurry up and one from Rhea telling me she wasn’t going to let Dom touch my food.
Honestly this lot, I love them so much.
Turning into our street I could see our house gate entrance just up the hill, with a little spring in my step I pushed on feeling like I was picking up speed. I felt energized, I felt incredible, maybe I could do this after all!
With the gate just in reach and the sweet smokey smell of the BBQ lingering in the air I put my head down to push those least few feet…
But within a split second I felt something behind me.
The music cut out as my headphones were launched to the floor and my arms locked in tight by a strength I hadn’t ever had to match. Kicking my legs out I felt them rise off the floor and before I could even fathom the mental capacity to make a sound the feeling of sticky back plastic tape suckered its way in across my lips. My eyes pooled up as the bag went over my head and my vision became darkness. A hard and cold metal floor was met with my body weight as I was hurled inside, my heart beating out of my chest the fear became all too real as I felt the ground under move away at speed.
A hot breath came down my neck, raising every last hair on my skin to react. The voice was muffled, as if speaking through a mask.
“You did this Y/N…”
“You did this… and now you cannot handle the monster you created.”
The silence in between each word was deafening, but it was the next voice that bought the fear of God into my soul.
“ Told you I’d find you...miss me?”

Kurumi-tic Miracle
In the early days of the genre, it was relatively common for magical girls to have more open-ended power sets. Rather than having one or a few set applications, their magic could do just about anything. Since the turn of the millennium, most magical girls have powers designed for a specific task, such as fighting evil, but today I want to take a look at a character from the early 2000s whose powers can do anything she puts her mind to.
Kurumi-tic Miracle is a 2003 manga by Chitose Yagami. It stars a run-of-the-mill schoolgirl named Kurumi Nanami, who lives with her grandfather in the oddities shop he owns, together with her pet hamster, Momo. One day, while helping clean the shop, Kurumi discovers a mysterious magic stone that affixes itself to her wrist in the form of a bracelet. With this magic bracelet, any wish she makes will instantaneously come true. Initially she uses this power to pursue her crush, Naoki, but as the two gets closer, it becomes clear the magic stone has a bit of a history, and the potential to cause problems.
Kurumi-tic Miracle was serialized in Ciao magazine from the February 2003 issue to the April 2003 issue: a three chapter run. These chapters were compiled into a single tankobon volume on June 21, 2003 by Shogakukan under their Flower Comics imprint, along with a couple of Yagami's older one-shots. A digital re-release, also by Shogakukan, was made available on July 10, 2015. Official translations were released in Indonesian and Chinese, but not English. However, a fan translation by the group Da Gurlz Translationz is available for all five chapters, including both one-shots, and can be found on various unofficial manga sites.
The series was created by Chitose Yagami, a shoujo manga author who debuted in 2001 with Magical Project, a one-shot which was later included in volume 1 of Manga Mitaina Koi Shitai! a.k.a. Fall in Love Like a Comic, one of her more popular works which was even officially printed in English by Viz under their Shojo Beat imprint. Much of Yagami's work contains elements of romantic comedy, middle/high school slice of life, magic and the paranormal, and working in the entertainment industry, be it modeling, music, or manga. She is still active to this day, both professionally and on social media. Her most recent manga, a BL series titled Shoujo Manga no Hero ni naritai no ni Heroine Atsukaisareru Ore., began serialization in 2021 and is still ongoing. None of her works would get career-definingly popular, but Kurumi-tic Miracle was successful enough to land her her first autograph session, so that's cool. It seems she didn't do much adapting of existing work, save for contributing to a shoujo Inazuma Eleven anthology in 2011. That same year, her manga Oresama Kingdom (Kings of My Love) got picked up for a direct to video anime adaptation, running for 14 episodes of 11 minutes apiece until 2013. This was the only manga of hers to get an anime adaptation, and it got a Nintendo DS game too, also in 2011. This was the second video game based on a Chitose Yagami manga, the first being Kiss x Kiss for the GBA in 2004.
Speaking of video games, this came up a lot in my research so I just want to point out that this series is unrelated to the 1997 Playstation game Kurumi Miracle, in which a young witch whose name is also Kurumi goes to an island to hone her magic by helping the local townsfolk.
Because Kurumi-tic Miracle is so short, it's difficult to recap the plot without giving spoilers, so if you'd like to go into the series blind, I advise you to do so before reading the rest of this post.
The manga starts off as a pretty straight forward slice-of-life romcom with magical hijinks, but the more we learn about the love interest Naoki, the clearer it becomes that something is amiss. He has a rather distinctive ring, and he seems very interested in Kurumi's bracelet. It turns out there is another magic stone, and the person who controls it wants them both to himself. The plot reveal is that this person is not Naoki, but his little brother, Satoru, who found the other stone by chance and became corrupted by its' power. He has bequeathed unto Naoki a fraction of that power for the purposes of collecting the other stone.
The magic systems in Kurumi-tic Miracle are really interesting to me. Because the scope of what they can do is so broad, the characters are limited only by their imagination, which gives us a stark contrast in how Kurumi and Satoru use their powers, despite those powers deriving from the same source. Kurumi's magic tends to be cuter, more harmless, and at times downright childish. Satoru's magic is scarier, emblematic of his ruthless attitude, and representative of a genuinely serious threat.
To pad out the tankobon release, two of Chitose Yagami's one-shots were included. The first, 2003's Dokitto Boys X Love (just Boys X Love in the fanslation), is sort of a comedy-of-errors in which a teenage girl accidentally switches bodies with her favorite male idol, and the two have to stick together as she learns his routine. It's not especially groundbreaking, but it's cute. The second is titled Otokomae!? Jajauma Musume, which I thiiink roughly translates to Boyish Selfish Girl. The fanslation uses the title I Love Tomboy. It was originally published in 2001 and according to Weblio was Yagami's second ever manga after Magical Project. It's a romantic comedy in which a tomboy attempts to become more feminine to win over her bully... which sucks. It sucks so bad. This one-shot is infuriatingly gender essentialist and sexist. A lot of effort goes into categorizing what separates girls from boys, all of it very stereotypical, and even though the resolution is that the protagonist is more comfortable being herself, the message is lost in all the steps it takes to get there. She does have some personal struggles with wondering if she's really a boy after all, and there's a plot twist that the elder sister figures who helped her throughout were actually crossdressers the whole time, so I'm sure you could read some queer subtext into this if you wanted to, but that is VERY clearly not what was intended. I hate it.
Taken on its' own, Kurumi-tic Miracle strikes me as a diamond in the rough. Most of the flaws I can point to in the main story could easily be alleviated if it were given more room to breathe. Three chapters just wasn't enough for me to get fully invested in these characters or their world. Despite this, the core concept shines through. This manga had some genuinely intriguing ideas about its' magic systems and how they can be applied for creative problem solving at a time when that modality of magic was becoming increasingly rare, despite the magical girl genre as a whole reaching market saturation at around this time. It's short and cute, even if it's not particularly substantial. It's very of a type, but if this is a type you tend to enjoy, I highly recommend checking it out.

Everybody Is Dead...!
In the Metal Fight Beyblade verse, Rago is capable via Diablo Nemesis of absorbing the power of his opponent and gaining their abilities. He can also gain the abilities and power of everyone that opponent has fought from the beginning to the present.
Despite this, Pluto states that Nemesis has the power of every bey in the world by the time he and Rago do battle with the Legendary Bladers and company. It opens the door to a potential trickle down effect that would go on and on. It makes Rago's main ability one of the most horrifying in any verse.
This got me thinking about another potential trickle down that could be applied to another overpowered deity. This one being of light rather than destruction. Galeem. Due to the incredible amount of crossovers and cameos that can be traced via some path to someone within the Super Smash Bros verse, there's a disturbing amount of verses that are almost certainly reduced to non-existence alongside everyone that ever existed within that verse by the Lord of Light and it's "Everybody Is Dead" attack. That isn't counting restoring the verses back into existence and shuffling them while everyone in them become mindless slaves. Even the verses with stages, Mii outfits and music have potential to be completely screwed. A scenario like this would represent the absolute highest limit of Galeem's power...

REVIEW: Homestuck: Part One (2022 film adaptation)
So I just got my Dimenstream free trial up and running on my PC... did you guys know that just 2 major timelines over, as part of their now-defunct partnership with Dreamworks and with a huge grant from the British monarchy themselves, Aardman did a 3-part, 9 hour adaptation of Homestuck, animated entirely in stop motion Wallace and Gromit style (excepting, of course, some special effects), and apparently in that reality it's the most expensive film ever made at $1.2 billion? According to the trivia section, to get it done within a decent timeframe, they ran 3 different crews at once, each making one of the 3 films in tandem with one another, and due to this there could be no spur-of-the-moment deviations from the script excepting typo removals because then the other two films might have been inconsistent with the change, so they took a whole 2 weeks to absolutely pore over the storyboards and dialogue for any mistakes or possible improvements before filming could start. Andrew Hussie was initially involved with the development, and was in the room for those parts, but left partway through the actual filming to pursue "personal projects." That's all it says, no indication of what those are. And let me tell you, from the first film alone (which is all I've watched so far) it is a fucking TRIP. I imagine any hardcore fans would find it painful, they made SO many changes, but me personally? I had an absolute BLAST, and laughed so hard I almost vomitted on like 4 seperate occasions. For starters:
They made all the beta kids British, excepting Jade who was an American. Dave was from East London and had a thick Cockney accent (honestly it was just really funny when compared with his obnoxiously verbose and "kewl" speech patterns, I liked that), John lived in a white-stuccoed rowhouse in a sprawling suburb of identically shaped yet contrasting redbrick rowhouses (kind of a deviation from the original idea of all the houses being identical including his, like it was a neat aesthetic idea in a vacuum but a little too Roald Dahl for my taste, just felt out of place given the source material) named Crockershire (I liked that, cute lil bit of foreshadowing). Rose lived on the edge of one of those coastal cliffs of white chalk, I couldn't pinpoint her accent but it was very stereotypically posh. Jade lived on an island off the coast of California, yet had a Brooklyn-sounding accent (???). All in all, it was certainly interesting, but was so much of a deviation from the source material that it felt more like an AU fanfiction than an adaptation.
Despite retaining the iconic Aardman artstyle, they very much did not tone down any of the subject matter or language, which felt... off. Like, the Smuppet scenes and all the slurs and swearing especially were very jarring, to the point of breaking my immersion. In fact, I think they cranked up the Smuppet scenes.
The first film only gets up to the point where the Trolls show up and goes through the introduction of each one, so Lord English doesn't get brought up a lot (I think they introduce him, at least conceptually and by name, far earlier in the films, actually), but there were still a lot of cheesy awkward jokes about Lord English's name and I really did not appreciate it after the fifth fucking "Oh, yew mean 'er majesty?" bit. Probably didn't age too well in-timeline either, assuming she died at the same time she did in ours. The first of these movies came out in July. They didn't remove any of it in the later ones, despite both coming out after she croaked in our timeline. I guess because it made sense for the year the films were set in... like, they couldn't logically mention the king, because he wasn't king yet, and would never be because the Buckinghams probably died to meteors.
They sort of... make John x Dave canon? In the first film? Like, before Sburb even starts? They don't even just imply it, either, the first thing they do upon meeting is kiss. Really weird choice, but I respect the sheer ballsiness of putting a gay main character in the most expensive film of all time, at least. There's also a very visible dress sticking out of John's closet and nobody ever acknowledges it, so... well, you know. Whoever wrote this had opinions on John.
Speaking of, they reference The Baby Is You. It happens within the first hour of the first film, too. I feel like they really moved a lil fast with the references. I don't want to spoil it, actually, because I laughed so hard I almost threw up, like literally the hardest I've laughed in years, because, well, I'll just say it absolutely comes out of nowhere and it's not from a place you'd expect.
All the Trolls have American accents. 10/10 on this one, no notes. Gamzee is from south Boston. Vriska is a valley girl.
Actually, forgot to mention, they made Jade black. They kept her hair straight, however, and I really don't know how to feel about that...
Terezi is chubby-buff like she is in Pesterquest, which I kinda liked, but she's the butt of a lot of jokes for it, and not the kind of thing where we're supposed to understand the person making fun is a dickweed for it like when Vriska makes fun of Tavros for being disabled. I think they actually make an equal amount of fat and blind jokes. Like, they equate her "seeing by taste" thing to gluttony and imply she gained weight after becoming blind due to it somehow(???), it's actually kinda gross how much they beat on her for her disability too come to think of it. Like at one point someone, I forget who, says something like "who'd fill a quadrant with THAT?" and it's like... actually mean. There's no comeback, no element of "an asshole is saying this," the film just glosses over it. It's fucked.
Tavros gets treated better, actually, but still worse than he did in the comics. They make "how do your genitals work now" jokes at least 2 or 3 times.
Karkat isn't a mutant anymore?? Candy reds are just called "redbloods" and occupy a new caste between rust and bronze? They even change the sign on his shirt to match. Felt like a huge change to his character, and I hate it. And they didn't alter the expanded zodiac to accomodate a new caste, either (which... ok tbf even in the comic there wasn't some empty row for the limebloods, but I heard they merchandiced the hell out of the zodiac, like there were fucking slushies, and from what I've seen they just... made seemingly random rust signs into red ones???
btw, unrelated but apparently there were a lot of memes about how the green dye used in the jade and olive slushies they sold in a lot of theatres and convenience stores made you shit yourself. Keep in mind, this was a three hour movie, so... yikes. Also, apparently the jade ones were lime flavored, which led to some... debates. Olive was watermelon, which is kind of baffling because you don't eat the green part??
Eridan gets called the F-slur, once and only once. Ironically, Dave says it. While right next to John. His boyfriend. The implied crossdresser. Who does not react at all. What the fuck, British people.
They kinda retconned things so Trolls are homophobic and have distinct sexes now, and like... stop. Please stop. It was so fucking cringe to see the whole "now I see that love is love" thing from EACH. FUCKING. TROLL. Even Eridan, who they reeeally gayed out, like bro the call is coming from inside the house.
They minion-ified the Carapascians and I hate it. Also Jack Noir has like 10 net minutes of screen time and it actually pissed me off because his model looked amazing and the transformation sequences were sooooo cool but felt sooooo rushed. You have 3 hours of movie to work with, guys! Let it breathe!
They changed the design of a lot of the alchemy machines. They still looked cool, but they had the kooky brass-and-rivets designs of a Wallace and Gromit contraption. The totem lathe even turned itself with a white-gloved hand that popped out of a hatch. Everything else about Sburb still felt very white and green y2k video game-ey, so this was an absolutely bizarre choice.
Final thing I'll say because I could honestly prattle about this shit all day: familiar favorites from the original have returned to write the soundtrack. Yay! Excepting the main theme, which was commissioned from Imagine Dragons and was... really fucking bad. You just have to hear it, it's like... how did they think this was anything other than grating. Apparently it became a retail favorite in that timeline, too... ugh. Just ugh. Those poor minimum wage bastards.
Conclusion: if you ever need to kill a evening, watch it. Please. You'll cry laughing. It's not bad, it's not good, it's baffling. The visuals are insanely impressive, yet you're constantly thinking "why did they choose this of all things for a claymation adaptation." The music is either phenomenal to the point of feeling mind-blowing (I mean shit, that one remix of Patient from the LOHAC reveal scene is one of my top ten songs ever now), or makes your lower back hurt from involuntary stress clenching. The writing... well, it's Homestuck, chopped up and reassembled. It escapes description by mortal words, just as much if not more so than its predecessor. You just have to WATCH IT. Go get the free trial right now and get the .exe running, clear an evening, order a pizza, maybe invite some friends over, and FUCKING WATCH IT.

Adam Wingard was confirmed to direct again in May 2022, and the lead role was secured by Dan Stevens. Principal photography took place in Gold Coast, Queensland, from July to November 2022. The release of the film is set for April 12, 2024. The narrative picks up from the monumental clash in "Godzilla vs. Kong" and introduces a new, formidable adversary that lies hidden within Earth, posing a threat to the existence of both Kong and Godzilla, as well as humanity. This chapter aims to explore deeper into the lore of these Titans, shedding light on their origins, the secrets of Skull Island, and a primeval battle that forever intertwines their fates with that of humankind. Development history reflects the cautious optimism of Legendary Pictures, with producer Alex Garcia expressing hope for more MonsterVerse films contingent on the success of previous installments. Wingard hinted at the potential directions for the franchise's future, emphasizing the audience's role in determining its trajectory. The positive reception and financial achievements of "Godzilla vs. Kong" spurred conversations and plans for additional films. "Son of Kong" was among the titles considered. In the build-up to this sequel, Legendary teased further expansion of the MonsterVerse.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire cast
The casting updates revealed returning and new cast members, although Millie Bobby Brown did not reprise her role due to scheduling conflicts. The production team saw familiar faces with the inclusion of Tom Hammock as the production designer, editor Josh Schaeffer, composer Tom Holkenborg, and Terry Rossio collaborating on the script with Jeremy Slater and Simon Barrett. Filming wrapped up in Australia with hints at the film's title, and Tom Holkenborg was set to compose the score, returning from his work on "Godzilla vs. Kong."
Godzilla x Kong release date: When can we expect Godzilla vs Kong 2?
The film's promotion began with a teaser trailer released by Legendary in April 2023, followed by strategic marketing initiatives leading up to the theatrical release slated for April 12, 2024, after being initially scheduled for March of the same year. Footnotes clarify the historical context of American involvement in the Godzilla franchise, noting earlier collaborations and the landmark of the first completely Hollywood-produced Godzilla film in 1998.

Number.02: Key -RAKAN-

In Marseille's warehouse district, Chasseur agents takedown the remnants of Bionet. Akamatsu is annoyed that the official story has to leave out the fact they know Lamia took Thanatos, but information regarding Betterman is normally suppressed. Yang feels it's for the best, although Urchin gets confirmation that Betterman acts on response to Algernon. Also gathered in this meeting are the 3 doctors, Nozaki, Inubozaki and Hirata. Yang indiscreetly enquires into Akamatsu and Urchin's history with the disease. Urchin feels uneasy with the fact his younger brother, Cactus, was essentially eaten by Betterman, although Akamatsu understands the Algernon infectees produced the Animus Flower needed by the Betterman to fight off Algernon, and while it might be distasteful to them, it is a necessary bond, he now understands about the Dive Inspection, Cactus and Kankel. Inubozaki and Nozaki note this importance too, and that Algernon stopped spreading after Kankel was defeated. Akamatsu always carries with him Algernon Watchman #2, although he hasn't encountered anyone with Algernon since inventing it, and has now started wearing Barrier-kun Anti-Radio Gen2. Hirata notes Thanatos having Algernon explains a lot about Bionet's illogical activities. There actions with Jupiter X, Futsunushi, Fake GS-Rides and Initiation Zonder Metal all had a profit motive, but trying to prevent the Global Wall when their own business was equally disrupted made no sense, and Akamatsu has seen this behaviour from other organisations where the leadership had Algernon. The more pressing matter, is that Project Z will resume. Yang has one other private concern. Womb Head recorded Mamoru referring to the Imitation Zonder, that resembled the Conqueror King, as Genesic. While only Mamoru and Ikumi had ever seen Genesic GaoGaiGar, they knew of it's nature from the boy's reports, and yet only now has Mamoru let slip about the Conqueror King resembling it, Yang is unsure if.he should confront the boy.
2
Takanohashi introduces himself to Alouette, but she explains she has regained her memory, so it's a reunion. Nobody she knew on Orbit Base is there now, as even Takanohashi has returned to being director of Gotenyama Science Centre, merely returning to Orbit Base because she was found. GGG France should have been watching her, but she wasn't deliberately targeted by Bionet, simply taken but coincidence. It was Bionet stressing out their captives that caused her to regain her memory. While he would have liked her to lead a normal life, now that that has changed, she seeks to join GGG with his recommendation. He agrees, and she smiles a smile Mamoru can see is genuine, looking her age for once.
3
As the Global Wall project is launched, Alouette is acting as mobile unit operator, her skill makes Hana feel inadequate. The 6 wall rings activate, and the Protect Wall expands at Akamatsu's orders, Tsuguo and Sueo running the technical side. The Global Wall is formed, and Secretary-General Heart makes contact to congratulate GGG. As everyone else celebrates, Yang, despite knowing Yaginuma and Takanohashi made the right choice in abandoning Project Z after the Invisible Burst, he worries the delay will have cost lives, he wonders if he would have had Mizuha continue with Project Z instead. In G-Island City, Ayame and Hajime celebrate, in Kanagawa Keita is promised a big bonus for his foresight,
4
The Global Wall has blocked out the sight of the Conqueror King, and for the first time in 6 years those on the Orbit Base can freely communicate with earth. Reiko, along with Suzuki Wakaba and Tazato Tamayo, are communicating with Hana, Reiki complaining that Sunou keeps screwing up his chances by bragging about his standing. All 4 are now in college. Reiko tries asking Hana about her marriage, joking that after 10 years they're stuck in a rut and should make it official, but is surprised to see Hana looking serious, making Reiko fear their actually are problems, but Hana just had dust in her eyes. Except this is a lie, but Reiko cannot bring herself to intrude further.
5
Ikumi rarely left Orbit Base during his downtime, as he couldn't freely visit his hospitalised mother, and those others he sought to see were too far away, but he makes good use of the communication lines now they exist, assuring his mother he is getting along with GGG and hoping someday she can visit. He then contacts a certain farm in Australia, talking with the farmer's daughter and the farmhands. Yang surprises him, requesting a private meeting, Ikumi, suspicious, agrees, although he thinks he knows what it is about.
6
At the Orbit Cafe, Hinoki's meal has been unexpectedly spicy, and Tamara's too sweet. Kikuho Eir, the lunch lady since the days of Gutsy Geoid Guard, apologises, even though Akamatsu just repaired Ingredient Synthesiser #26, some of the ingredients it has been producing have in fact been others disguised. Hinoki is willing to write this off as an accident, and blame the Chief, but Tamara claims this has been sabotage, and challenges Hinoki to find the culprit before that, Hinoki not catching on to her repeated use of 26 in her speech.
7
Tamara has duty, and Hinoki spots Kamuy, and asks if he knows anything, he suggests hacking. While he checks the records, Hinoki asks if he contacted anyone on earth, he did, the one person he didn't was his brother, who died in the battle at Jupiter in the line of duty. She denies having anyone to contact herself, her family are all dead, Kamuy asking about her boyfriend, she did call him, but he was probably busy and didn't pick up. She's annoyed he hasn't called back, but he can't die to the exorbitant costs of calls to Orbit Base. Kamuy finds #26 has had it's setting randomised, and immediately after Akamatsu fixed it the setting jumbled again, and he finds the tampering was deleted, but can still find the deletion records themselves. Swiftly eliminations possible hackers, he settles on a certain person, and Hinoki is horrified.
8
Yang gets straight to the point, getting Ikumi to confirm the Conqueror King resembles Genesic GaoGaiGar, and that the boys hid this due to fear it would impact Project Z. Yang states to Ikumi that he still thinks Project Z maybe should have been prioritised. There are many reasons the Conqueror King might resemble Genesic, but the worst possibility is that Genesis GaoGaiGar itself is the cause of the Invisible Burst, and Yang does not want to delay Project Z further. He wants Project Z to launch in 162 hours as planned, so he wants Ikumi to tell him everything.
9
A new selection of food is ready for Mamoru, Hana and Akamatsu, while the Main Order Room is manned by Urchin, Sueo and Alouette. Hinoki and Kamuy enter shortly after to find everyone in the cafe incapacitated by the false desserts, except the one responsible Kikuho, smiling broadly. Her face does not match her words, and Hinoki is horrified to see this reminds him of 10 years ago. Hinoki and Kamuy confirm from their investigation only she could have done this, she claims to be a victim, but Tamara appears to refute this, having suspected Kikuho from the start, she set up a spy camera to catch her red handed. Tamara is about to reveal the reason, when Algernon Watchman #26 announces, awakening Akamatsu in the process, that for the first time in ten years, someone with the disease is within 5 metres of him. She tries to force-feed Akamatsu, but Mamoru pushes her away, and she instead flees.
10
Hinoki, Kamuy and Tamara chase, but when they find Kikuho she is unconscious, held by a stranger who looks like a minstrel. He apologises and ducks into a room with her, and when they follow, the room is empty, and there is no signal from Kikuho.
10 minutes later, in the Second Order Room, Hirata reports 140kg vanished from Orbit Base. Tamara checks the footage of the man, and confirms Hinoki heard Japanese, Kamuy heard french, and she heard Ukrainian. The video had no sound. The figure was speaking via Limpid Channel, they are a Betterman.
Akamatsu is distraught Algernon has broken out again, Hinoki is more privately distraught. While it is distressing Algernon is spreading, Ikumi and Yang point out their priority is Project Z, they should leave Algernon to NEO, though Akamatsu is able to get them to accept Algernon Watchman #26 installed everywhere, he fears what could be the cause this time.
11
The Somnium have lived on earth since ancient times, and are beyond human understanding, the only reason they don't rule over humanity is their perpetually low population, and instead they hide in Sepulchrums, areas humans cannot normally perceive. One such Sepulchrum is in Yokohama, first settled by Somnium in the 15th century, originally sparsely populated by outcasts, it is now one of the biggest Somnium refuges. The area this Sepulchrum lies in is now Chinatown. In the Sepulchrum now is the body of seifuku-clad teenage girl, with 4 massive holes. And yet the girl is alive. Across the Limpid Channel see senses something. Her name is Sara, and she confirms to Lamia that others are returning. The effect on her body, the holes appearing in her body and growing and contracting, is due to a special ability of hers using the rare Animus variant, Socius, which Lamia had known he needed for the Conqueror King, and finally recovered one from Doctor Thanatos, one of the first humans to use THE POWER. Four figures emerge from the holes in Sara's body, each holding a human corpse, the last arrives with only an Animus crop. Gajumaru, looking like a boy, who did this, holds no reverence for Lamia, and did his not to ease Sara's burden, merely for efficiency, except she can tell this is a lie. The gates close, and her for now appears normal. She uses Pextofolex Socius, and successfully produces another Socius seed, a blessing given how hard it was to find the first. Sara wears a red cape, looking like a young girl, and kept a katana shaped staff. Yewya, in a dress resembling the jellyfish Mamoru saw Lamia with, reports she has made arrangements, Hiiragi, large in a polar bear pelt, has also succeeded, as has Rice, the minstrel, who is in the habit of actually moving his mouth. All traveled via Socius Road to recover these Animus seedbeds. Kikuho has produced a Forte seed, which confirms Lamia's fear their foe is a Kankel wonsurpasses Kankel. After losing his comrades 10 years ago, Lamia had to gather these 5 new allies for the new threat, although one is still missing. They need Rakan, the Key to Victory, and the Forte Seed swells.
12
Some Sepulchrum are inhabited by only a single Somnium, although this one in Bolivia is unusual in the fact it's resident shares it with animals from otherwise extinct species, who all fear it. The sole inhabitant not to fear it declares they are coming, it appears like a thin, hazy thing, with a cross of light for a forehead. A large storm dragon like entity crosses, the Somnium is surprised to see a successor to Turbo after Bodaiju has passed. Lamia, Rice and and Sara leap down, and Gakumaru emerges from Betterman Turbo, refusing to cocoon himself. Lamia greets Rakan, who wears native dress and has a 6 ft metal staff. Rakan says nothing, but the haze speaks, noting Lamia has come to Rakan as the one entrusted with the future by Pachira. Rakan seems not to care for the fate of this world, even when told his place will fade in time, but he is curious when Lamia says the time of Patria is coming. Sara is a rarity, it has been 2000 years since a Somnium able to use Socius was born. When Rakan notes he sees Lamia wants to fight the Conqueror King at this time of resistance as a species, one is shocked, one angry Rakan didn't respond to being summoned, and other implacable, each and their own thoughts. Lamia argues that the Conqueror King will make all into light, but Rakan thinks he can eradicate it even if Patria comes, rejecting the antique Somnium, so Lamia instead must challenge him, the winners will be carried out.
13
Rakan dodges Pectoforex Rubrum, and goes to stab, but Lamia dodges and uses Pectofolex Viride, Rakan disperse this, but does nothing about Pectoforex Flavum. Rakan sees this as weaknesses as uses his own Pectoforex Sanctus, which disassembles his extinct beasts, and lets him fuse with them, Sanctus is something none of the others have seen before. King of Beasts Rakan swings powerful attacks at Lamia, who opts to counter by consuming Forte. King of Beasts Rakan's right fist is the jaws of an Andrewsarchus, but Forte stops it chomping, he flies using wings of Argentavis Magnificent, and kicks using the legs of platybelodons, but Forte pierces the foot with the Sliding Saber, and uses Psycho Glory. The beasts return to normal, but Lamia demands to see Rakan's true power, as what he has used this far would be nothing to the Conqueror King. And so he produces his own Forte seed.
14
Rice is shocked a Forte was found, though Lamia recognises this is the result of intense study, and imitation Forte, created using Sanctus to recombine human genes to recreate the Kankel conditions, although he has only succeeded in producing one. Rice is inspired to play his instrument at the sight of two Forte in battle. Lamia is pale red to Rakan's light green, it seems both are equal, and both ready Psycho Glory, and both Sliding Sabers are shattered, both Forte are gone, the opponent's stand across from each other. Lamia uses Rubrum, Rakan Sanctus, and they put eachother in stalemate, except Rakan merges with Titanoba and Smilodon on his arms, and declare victory and tells Lamia he will fulfil Pachira's will, only for Lamia to tell him he has lost, he finds he can't move, effected now by the early Viridie and Flavum, specifically it was the animals that were affected. Rakan is left in admiration, and Lamia uses Album to heal him. Rakan pretends to merely have accepted their aid, but they have the key, something the mist, which appears to have long pink hair, repeats.
15
Akamatsu Sakura declares they have the key from the Manage Machine. Despite her comatose state she often speaks, though Hinoki finds she sounds joyful on this occasion.
Project Z resumes in 50 hours, and all preparations aboard Orbit Base are complete. Hinoki often takes care of checking up on Sakura and the Manage Machine, having taken on duty at Orbit Base Round the time Akamatsu became Chief and brought Sakura aboard, and always takes care of her, making sure her hair is brushed despite no one else seeing her. Hinoki tells her they're heading to Jupiter, even though she knows the words she speaks are probably not her own. Officially she's with GGG as a potential asset, though Akamatsu hopes THE POWER can awaken her, neither Akamatsu or Hinoki could know that the physical form of Sakura's consciousness was currently in an inexplicable area of Bolivia, on the form of a haze.
Alouette has taken it upon herself adjust Kakuseijin GaiGou's software, working off Leo and Liger's work, decreasing Final Fusion time by 5.72 seconds. She then wants to work on something in Orbit Base she finds nostalgic, which no one can use, Akamatsu allows her to tune it's software, he will handle the hardware.
Yang, currently in charge at the Main Order Room, is distressed to receive an amendment to Project Z from the UN Council. Reading though, he learns probing Jupiter is to happen as scheduled, but they are now to immediately extract a sample of THE POWER to research creating a gate, but the power development plan is now suspected, instead researching the cause of the Invisible Burst. Given this was what Yang wanted all along, he happily calls Akamatsu and Urchin, aware of who must have arranged this.
Isogai Sakura had earlier that day put a motion to the Energy Development Council, backed up by documents from the Space Development Corporation, which had seen the council vote in this amendment. Secretary-General Heart invites her for a celebratory drink, but he respectfully leaves it when she declined. Cherry is aware of her superiors affections for her, but does not seek to take advantage. She has sought to keep up the fight Taiga left behind 10 years ago, the opposition to THE POWER Usage Project, while still seeking the safe return of the lost Braves, and the man she loves.

The Story Behind the Iconic MF DOOM Mask
Performing under Zev Love X with the collective KMD their 1991 debut ‘Mr. Hood’ included conscience lyrics focused on pan-Africanism and the black experience in America. Before the release of their sophomore album, ‘Black Bastards’ they were dropped from their label deemed too controversial and unmarketable. DOOM’s younger brother and KMD member DJ Subroc passed away shortly after causing him to detach from the scene completely, unbeknownst to him ‘Black Bastards’ would be leaked and amass a cult following within the underground Hip-Hop circuit. "There's a little twist of Dr. Doom in there, even a little Destro from GI Joe. It's an icon of American culture. I made it a mish-mash of all the villains together and my last name is Dumile, so everyone used to call me Doom anyway. It's a parody of all the villains" Resurfacing in 1997 through open mic nights under the pseudonym #MFDOOM (Metal Face for his stage name and Metal Fingers for production) channelling his early interest in comic books. The creation of a super-villain character signified disdain for the industry whilst the mask embodied it, covering his identity brought focus back to the music rather than industry-glamorised materialism. Initially sporting a woman’s stocking, he revised the mask before upgrading to the now-iconic chrome prop from the Gladiator movie. “It don’t matter what the artist looks like it matters what the artist sounds like. The mask represents to rebel against trying to sell the product as a human being.” DOOM would go on to create several alias’ some include King Geedorah - a 3-headed space monster inspired by Japanese Godzilla introduced via the Monsta Island Czar collective and Viktor Vaughn - a play on Dr. Doom’s real name, but he would be most noted for his 2004 album with #Madlib under the moniker Madvillain. From his striking appearance and dark satirical bars to his acclaimed multifaceted collaborative projects, DOOM has gained an undeniable cult following. Despite this, his attempts to distance himself from the limelight have resulted in him being outed for use of on-stage doubles causing fury amongst fans.

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
LeBron James might be out of the NBA playoffs, but he’s still angling to be a big part of the summer entertainment season. That’s because HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by a very special sequel.

HBO Max is also bringing some fun TV shows to its stream this month. The long-awaited Gossip Girl revival premieres on July 8. That will be followed by Mike White’s satirical limited series The White Lotus on July 11. Ronan Farrow’s excellent book Catch and Kill gets a docuseries adaptation on July 12.
July 1 will see the arrival of library titles like Planet of the Apes, Reservoir Dogs, and Scream. Recent hit Judas and the Black Messiah comes to HBO Max on that date as well. It’s a good month for geek TV with the Doctor Who 2020 Christmas Special (July 1), Nancy Drew season 2 (July 3), and Batwoman season 2 (July 27) all coming home to their streaming residence.

POTC AU go time! Pictured above are fresh-faced pirate Charlie Weasley, the mystical witch of Tortuga Chiara Dalma, and so-called “Pirate Dragon” Samantha O’Connell @samshogwarts! Looks like these three are a bit over their heads...let’s see if they can get out of it!
For those of you who appreciate my mini-history lectures surrounding real Caribbean pirates of the 17th and 18th century (please let me know if you do, I will happily geek TF out if it’s something you all like XD) -- Tortuga is an island in modern-day Haiti. It was originally a Spanish colony, settled in the 15th century not long after Mr. Despicable himself Christopher Columbus “discovered” the New World. Despite this, and despite the, er...tempestuous relationship between Spain and its neighboring countries, Tortuga ended up also hosting both English and French settlements, largely made up of buccaneers, in the 17th century. Buccaneers were an ancestor of the more classic “pirates” we think of today -- the biggest differences were that they were privateers, meaning they worked on behalf of a country and only attacked ships from other countries (i.e. a British privateer like Sir Francis Drake would only attack Spanish or French ships), and that buccaneers specifically congregated in that area of the Caribbean (namely, Tortuga and the island of Hispaniola) alone. Historically, however, Tortuga stopped being a great place for buccaneers to gather before the end of the 17th century -- specifically when treaties were passed officially banning those old privateers from attacking foreign vessels during times of peace, circa 1680. This also effectively killed off the buccaneer as a profession, until the War of Spanish Succession turned a lot more privateers who had fought during the War into the more classic 18th century pirates we think of today. During the most famous period of the Golden Age of Piracy -- namely, the third and final wave after the War of Spanish Succession ended in 1714, which hosted all of the best known pirates like Blackbeard and which both the Pirates films and this AU is set in -- it would’ve been far more common to find actual historical pirates in places like St. Mary’s Island off the coast of Madagascar or (I’m not kidding) Port Royal, Jamaica, which was quite frankly NOT the beautiful, upstanding city we see in the films. In truth, it actually prospered under piracy, until Port Royal’s leadership finally decided to crack down hard on pirates circa 1720. In this project, though, for the sake of iconography, I will treat Tortuga very much the way Port Royal would’ve really been historically -- a pirate island which, in this time period, was suddenly barraged by the pirates’ enemies and was immediately no longer a safe place for pirates to hide in. (Of course, historical pirates were much less likable or sympathetic than the pirate characters in this AU are, regardless of how objectively hard their existence was and how frankly horrid the world was in general for anyone who wasn’t upper-class, white, and male back then.)
The so-called “seven seas” have gone through a lot of “shuffling around” over the centuries, as our understanding of the world has grown. The phrase was first used by the Ancient Greeks, but back then of course, they didn’t know about the existence of bodies of water like the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. In the Pirates films, there are nine Pirate lords for the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans, as well as the South China, Caspian, Adriatic, Black, Mediterranean, and Caribbean Seas. I’ve slimmed down the number to just seven for the sake of referencing the so-called “seven seas,” and also because with the Pirate King, that would then give us eight pieces of eight, which seems like a much more logical number than nine pieces of eight. (Plus, to me, the Caspian and Black Seas are kind of weird choices to have Lords for as the Caspian is land-locked and the Black Sea can only be sailed into through a narrow channel in the Mediterranean...and from what I can tell, there wasn’t much 17th-18th century piracy specifically centered around those two seas either.)
Previous part of the AU is here -- whole tag is here -- and of course Jules Farrier-Weasley belongs to @cursebreakerfarrier and Finn McGarry / Davy Jones belongs to @theguythatdraws. <3

In the nearly three weeks since Jules, Bill, and Charlie said goodbye to Carewyn, the three had practically been thrown head-first into what piracy truly meant. Sailing aboard the Artemis hadn’t been as glamorous as the stories Jules grew up with, but trying to steer the Revolution with only three people aboard without enough food or drink to go around, all the while knowing that just about no ships they might come across and very few islands they might land on would be friendly to them, was something that didn’t sink in until one was left sitting up all night thinking it over. Everything the three owned now -- everything they were -- was either on their person or on this ship...and if anything happened to the ship, they wouldn’t just lose the belongings they had on board, but also the only way they could transport themselves out of danger and the only “home” they still had. No one would likely even know anything had happened to them until days, weeks, or even months afterwards. It was like nothing tethered them to the Earth at all -- like they had no gravity and could just fly up into the air at any time, disappearing forever without a trace.
There was a freedom to it, of course, knowing that you didn’t have to be defined by how you were born or what arbitrary value society placed on you...and yet, the freedom came at a cost.
The three Weasleys arrived on the island of Tortuga within four days. Truthfully it wasn’t really a place a lot of people would enjoy visiting -- it was loud, filthy, seedy, and treacherous, and yet, it was a safe place for them to fill their bellies and get their ship repaired and outfitted with new crew members.
There were a few pirates who initially balked at the idea of joining the crew of a ship captained by a woman, but before long, Jules made a name for herself in Tortuga after she was able to out-maneuver two drunken men twice her size in a fight, the first by ducking under his arm and then smashing a bottle of rum over his head to knock him out and the second by stealing his own pistol out of his belt and pointing it right between his eyes until he backed off.
Charlie couldn’t help but grin as the pirate rather cowardly slunk off like a dog with his tail between his legs.
“Bloody hell, Jules!” he laughed. “Reckon you scared him so bad he’ll be running off crying to Mummy...”
Jules crossed her arms, the man’s pistol still in her hand. “Well, he had it coming. Not wanting to be on our crew I can accept, but I am not a thing he can pay for.”
“You can’t be bought, period,” agreed Bill lowly, shooting a rather dirty look at the man’s back as he secured an arm around his wife’s waist. “Least of all by a disgusting cur like him.”
Charlie gave a low whistle.
“Blimey, Bill, a man of the Church, swearing like that?” he teased. “Whatever happened to turning the other cheek?”
“Ecclesiastes 3:8 -- ‘there is a time to love and a time to hate,’” said Bill coolly. “This is not a time to love.”
Jules smiled wryly up at Bill.
“I might have to disagree,” she said amusedly, as she tilted his head down enough to ensnare his lips with her own.
Not long after they arrived, Orion and the crew of Artemis met the Weasleys in Tortuga, as planned. It was good to see some familiar and friendly faces, in a sea of insincere smiles and shady looks. Orion immediately introduced the crew of the Revolution to a few of his “friends” on the island -- Andre Egwu, a rather fashionable pirate who had once been both a tailor and a French privateer; Erika Rath, the rough-and-tough owner of the Faithful Bride tavern, who had been a pirate herself before settling in Tortuga to offer a safe place to those who were too ill, young, old, or otherwise unable to sail anymore; Ethan Parkin, Skye’s father and a retired pirate himself, who, despite being a rather egotistical sort that disdained Orion quite a bit, still was always willing to do the crew of the Artemis and their associates a favor, for the sake of his daughter; and a pirate solely called “Face Paint” who was known on the island for being a master of disguise that could not only look like anyone they wanted, but also make other people look like just about anyone else too.
Andre and Face Paint were able to help out all three Weasleys with their wardrobes, so that they “fit” a bit more with the pirates of the island. Bill picked out a new belt that could better fit a scabbard for his sword, and Jules finally got a hat worthy of a captain -- a forest green tricorn hat trimmed with silver embroidery. Charlie was even able to snatch up a pair of boots made of a black scaly material that reminded him of the pictures of dragons he’d see in books as a kid. Charlie had expected Andre to encourage him to shave too, since both he and Bill were already getting a bit stubbly since they hadn’t shaved since they left Port Royal, but Andre actually discouraged this.
“If people know you better without a beard, then you should grow one,” he advised. “The more different you can look from how you did before, the better the chances you’ll have of not immediately being recognized, if you collide with the wrong person. In general, my advice is to change your look up every four to six months, just to throw off the authorities.”
Bill, Jules, and Charlie also accompanied Orion on his visit to the far corner of Tortuga, over a small lake to an eerie-looking worn-down shack on stilts in the middle of the water, which was the home to the resident “witch” of Tortuga.
“Have you ever met a witch before?” Jules asked Bill and Charlie.
Both Weasley brothers shook their heads, looking a little disconcerted.
“She’s truly not as terrifying as everyone makes her out to be,” said McNully reassuringly. “I’d say there’s only a 63% chance she’ll curse you if you make a wrong move.”
Charlie shot him a flabbergasted look. “Oh, that’s encouraging.”
Skye gave a light “hmph!”
“My best piece of advice? Try not to make eye contact and let Orion do the talking,” she said under her breath. “The witch can do favors for you, if you somehow get on her good side and give her proper payment...but she doesn’t trust easily.”
“And likes anyone even more rarely,” added McNully, though he sounded more thoughtful than Skye. “Orion’s one of the few people I’d say she does favor a bit...though I reckon that’s because they go back a ways, and Orion’s not really like most pirates...”
“It’s pirates especially she doesn’t like,” said Skye.
Charlie frowned. “If she doesn’t like pirates, then why is she here, on an island owned by pirates?”
“I reckon witches probably don’t have a lot of safe places they can live as it is, Charlie,” Bill pointed out somberly. “Even the Bible says you should not suffer a witch to live. She probably lives here because she doesn’t have much choice.”
When they reached the dock under the shack, they tied up their boat, McNully staying behind to watch it while Orion, Skye, Jules, Bill, and Charlie climbed the ladder up into the shack itself. It was a bizarre place with various bottles, model planets, and other such trinkets dangling from the ceiling, and toward the back of the single large room was a table covered in a dirty grayish white tablecloth covered in spots and stains.
The witch called Chia Dalma was almost ethereal in appearance, from her long, flowing white hair to her sea-blue eyes to her bloodless, porcelain skin. She wore a rather worn, clearly second-hand dark red dress and a full-moon-shaped locket around her neck. She also considered all of Orion’s party with considerable distrust in her eyes -- Charlie felt like he was being X-rayed. Orion, however, acted as though he didn’t even notice the scrutiny the others were getting and spoke to Chia very pleasantly after giving her some incense and a jar of candied pineapple.
“How are the stars sounding, to you?” he asked. “From what I’ve seen, Venus is particularly bright, right now -- I would think you’ve heard a lot about love, in your conversations with the night sky.”
Chia finally tore her critical eye off of Charlie to turn to Orion, her posture still noticeably guarded.
“Yes,” she said, “though I believe there’s a reason you noticed Venus’s brightness in particular, as opposed to the rest of the planets’ movements.”
Her voice was very soft and understated, enough to make you freeze where you stood and hold your breath in a subconscious attempt to hear her better. Despite this, her discerning look on Orion was considerably less suspicious: if anything, it looked almost curious.
A flicker of a smile teased at the corners of Orion’s mouth.
“...I suppose I may have.”
Bill and Charlie both shot Orion looks out the side of their eye. They had a feeling they knew exactly why that was.
Bill and Jules had talked to Charlie about their suspicions about Orion and Carewyn, and although Jules had been very supportive of it and even Bill acknowledged that Orion did seem to feel genuine affection for Carewyn, Charlie himself still felt a bit uncomfortable about it. To him, Carewyn was his twin -- although in a lot of ways, she was more like Bill personality-wise and Bill and she were clearly the best of friends, Charlie and Carewyn had still been two peas in a pod for a lot of the War. Because they were seen as twin brothers by the Navy, they were often positioned together and ended up supporting each other whenever Bill -- the person they both loved and trusted more than anyone else -- wasn’t around. This whole experience was the first time he’d really been apart from Carewyn since he’d first joined the Navy...and with Bill now married to Jules and the whole world suddenly being against them...Charlie found himself missing his “twin” more than ever.
‘Orion’s not a bad bloke,’ Charlie thought to himself. ‘If Carey really likes him, I’d understand, but...I just don’t want things to change anymore than they already have...’
Becoming estranged from Percy had been hard enough. Knowing that Bill and he would drift apart as his older brother made a life of his own with Jules, and thinking of Carewyn making a life of her own with Orion, while he himself was left on the sidelines...it was a thought Charlie didn’t like wallowing in.
Chia regarded Orion with a more solemn look as she took a seat at her table.
“It would behoove you to take a more complete look at the planets,” she said lowly. “There’s friction growing between Saturn and Uranus.”
Orion’s eyes narrowed, though his expression remained typically serene. Charlie glanced from Orion to Chia.
“...What does that mean?” he asked.
Skye shot him a look as if to warn him to be quiet -- Chia turned her attention to Charlie, her blue eyes boring into him with such intensity that Charlie flinched back a bit despite himself.
“Saturn represents Law -- a rigid structure,” she answered lowly. “Uranus, his father, represents Disorder -- Unpredictability -- Rebellion and Reformation. It suggests that there is to be great upheaval, very soon -- a large shift, the likes of which none of you have seen in your lifetimes.”
Charlie’s eyebrows furrowed in concern. “Bigger than the War?”
Chia’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“That was a War fought solely for the advancement of a few,” she said, her voice noticeably cool. “However big it felt to you, Charles Weasley, it merely reinforced what was already there, and so it will ultimately be forgotten. Only the ripples of that War -- the ones we feel, in this moment -- will leave any real impact.”
Charlie wanted to ask how Chia knew his name, but Orion spoke before he could.
“Can you tell which planet is rising, of the two?”
Chia glanced up at the model planets over her head pensively. “Right now, no. They’re on a collision course in the night sky, set to eclipse each other...but I can’t say which will fall first...and what will fall here on Earth, in response.”
Chia’s eyes drifted from Orion to Charlie to Jules, narrowing a bit more critically as she considered each of them in turn.
“One thing is for sure, though -- when two such powerful planets meet, it signals the end of an age. Whatever’s born from the ashes of that end may be up to whomever is fortunate enough to survive.”
The group left Chia Dalma’s feeling considerably less comfortable than when they arrived. Despite this, and despite how weirded out he was that she’d known who he was before he’d even told her his name, Charlie had to admit to himself that she didn’t seem as scary as Skye or McNully had made her out to be. She kind of reminded him of the ocean in a way -- mysterious and intimidating, sure, but ultimately something worthy of respect. Even just the way she spoke seemed to hint to her being much older than her face would suggest.
No one in the group had any idea what Chia Dalma could’ve meant when she discussed “an great upheaval” until over a week later. That was the day that the Flying Dutchman arrived on the shores of Tortuga and, without any warning, opened fire.
It was Hell the likes of which even Bill or Charlie had never seen. Cannonballs blasted through buildings, smashing windows and shattering walls. Before long, whole buildings were coming down and crushing people as they fled. Then the Flying Dutchman’s crew came ashore, undead and rotten and crusted over with barnacles and sea-life, as if they’d been swallowed up and spat back out of the sea itself -- and they killed and captured by the hundreds, with both swords and nets.
Then the Captain of the Dutchman himself, his octopus-like face visibly furious as his lobster-like claw clutched at the front of his chest where his heart should be, turned his ire on the settlement itself.
Cutler Beckett wanted him to send the pirates a message, did he? Well, then...he’d send them a message they’d see for miles.
With a click of his claw, Jones conjured up a large, flaming cinder, which he then chucked at the Faithful Bride. In an instant, it was set ablaze...and all of the pirates trying to hide inside the tavern were soon forced to flee and be captured, or burn to death. The fire spread from roof to roof, and soon all of Tortuga was in flames.
In the midst of the chaos, the crews of the Artemis and the Revolution hurried back to their ships, preparing to retreat. As Charlie ran behind Jules and Bill, however, he stopped abruptly when he caught sight of a white-haired figure being shoved around inside the crowd. It was Chia Dalma. She looked like she was trying to push through, but the horde was quickly devolving around her, trapping her in once spot.
Making up his mind very quickly, Charlie darted back the way he came.
“CHARLIE!” cried Bill.
“SET SAIL!” Charlie bellowed back. “I’LL CATCH UP!”
“CHARLIE!” Jules shouted too.
“Wait -- !”
Was that Orion’s voice? Charlie had never heard him sound tense like that before. Nevertheless, he couldn’t stop. He pressed on, unsheathing his sword as he pushed and shoved the other pirates aside.
“Move! Bugger off!”
Finally he was able to make his way over to Chia Dalma, just in time to block a block a blow from a shark-headed sailor’s sword.
“Oi!” he said angrily. “Leave the lady alone, you toothy maggot!”
The two immediately started to fight, until Charlie managed to get the upper hand by slashing at his flipper-like leg and then shoving him back off his feet through the window of a house.
He turned to Chia Dalma.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
The witch’s gaze was just as piercing and guarded as it had been before as she analyzed Charlie’s face.
“Yes,” she said softly.
Charlie offered her a smile, even as more sailors charged at them.
“Stick close to me, all right?” he told her.
“You can’t win against the crew of the Flying Dutchman,” said Chia very gravely.
“Not with that attitude!” said Charlie almost cheekily. Seeing the severe look on her face, he said a little more seriously, “Look, I get that you don’t trust me -- I don’t know you at all either -- but I’m not just going to sit back and watch someone die if I can help it. And if this is the crew of Davy Jones, you’ll die if you stay here.”
The sentiment seemed to cause Chia visible pain. Her eyes abruptly hardened.
“Do not speak with such certainty about Davy Jones,” she said very sharply. “He may be a heartless being now, but that doesn’t make him devoid of conscience, or of feeling.”
Charlie frowned deeply and was prepared to ask Chia what she meant, but before he could, he soon found himself faced with another crew member from the Dutchman with a face covered in barnacles and starfish and had to immediately go on the attack again.
Charlie fought off three other fishy sailors, beating them back as best he could as she tried to steer himself and Chia back toward the docks. But as more time passed, the flames engulfing the nearby buildings only grew. Soot and ash rained from the air, making it harder to breathe by the second.
Charlie struggled to breathe normally as he fought the sailors away from Chia Dalma, but there were just too many of them, and just like with the cursed crew of the Revenge, they didn’t go down easily. Somehow, he managed to steer Chia to the dock, where the Revolution was still floating close by, their anchor already weighed and a ladder dangling off the edge.
“COME ON, CHARLIE!” cried Bill.
Coughing hard, Charlie brought an arm around Chia Dalma, pushing her slightly forward.
“Go on, climb up -- ”
BAM.
All of a sudden, Chia whirled on Charlie, grabbing hold of him and shoving him backward and to the ground just in time to avoid a giant explosion of flames that collided with the dock. The force of the explosion made the ocean water around the island crash, shoving the Revolution back with the force.
“CHARLIE!”
“CHARLIE!”
Charlie could hear both Bill and Jules’s voices as the ship was thrown backward away from the island by a massive, torrential wave. His heart gave a spasm of terror as he stared at the red-hulled ship being tossed like a bath toy in the chaos.
“BILL! JULES!”
Within moments, Charlie and Chia Dalma were surrounded by the Flying Dutchman’s crew. Charlie immediately stood in front of Chia protectively as they were encircled. The witch, for her part, looked disconcerted by the Dutchman’s crew’s appearance, but not in the way that she looked afraid -- if anything, she almost looked deeply troubled.
“There’s reluctance, in their eyes,” she murmured.
Charlie glanced back at her. “Huh?”
Chia’s lips came together seriously. “You know the purpose of the Flying Dutchman?”
“Yeah -- it’s supposed to ferry the dead.”
As Charlie considered this, he realized that this was strange. Why would a crew that was supposed to ferry those lost at sea into the next life be attacking Tortuga?
Chia nodded solemnly. “They’re not here of their own free will. Neither they nor Davy Jones...have come here because they wish to.”
Charlie felt his jaw clench as he stared down the circle of sailors holding up nets and pointing their swords at them as they prepared to capture them.
“Maybe they haven’t, but that doesn’t make them our mates,” he muttered.
Just as it seemed that Charlie was out-numbered, there was a loud rumbling down the street. A whole cart full of barrels were rolling right down the street, right at them.
Chia abruptly grabbed hold of the back of Charlie’s shirt and in an instant, the two had levitated about four feet off the ground, just in time to avoid the throng of barrels knocking over the Dutchman’s crew like nine pins.
As Chia and Charlie slowly returned to the ground, they were joined by another pirate -- a rather striking blonde with emerald-colored eyes. She held a pistol in one hand and her sword in the other as she rolled down the street on one of the barrels, jumping off of it to land on Chia’s other side.
“You both all right?” she asked, as she lifted her leg just enough that she could catch the barrel she’d arrived on with her foot.
“...Aye,” said Charlie after a moment, still a bit in awe about having just been floating in the air like a cloud. “Thanks, uh...?”
“Samantha O’Connell,” she introduced herself quickly.
Charlie blinked. “The Pirate Dragon?”
Both Samantha and he immediately had to duck to avoid a grenade being chucked over at them. It seemed some of the Dutchman’s sailors had recovered from the “barrel attack” and were coming back.
“Look, I’m all for introductions and ‘how-do-you-do’s,’” said Samantha with a wry smile, “but right now, we’d better move!”
Urging Chia in front of her, she then ran down the street away from the dock, Charlie at her heels.
It seemed that the infamous “Pirate Dragon” and Charlie also had a mutual friend in Orion Amari. Despite persuading both crews to “keep to the Pirate Code” (namely, that whoever falls behind is left behind), Samantha nonetheless had enough honor to -- upon seeing Charlie and Chia had been separated from the others -- backtrack enough to make sure they got away too, even if it couldn’t be on the Artemis or Revolution.
“I have my own ketch here at the eastern dock, which I’ll be taking back to my ship,” she explained as they ran. “There are a few others you can choose from, to steer yourself and Ms. Dalma here to Shipwreck Cove -- you’ll be safe there...”
“Shipwreck Cove?” repeated Charlie.
Chia Dalma’s eyes flashed at the name.
“The home of the Brethren Court,” she murmured very icily.
Samantha shot Chia a frown.
“Look, I get it if you don’t like going to another pirate haven, but it’s really the safest place, now. I doubt even Jones himself knows how to get there -- and once all the Pirate Lords assemble, we can come up with a plan to deal with this.”
Samantha immediately boarded the small blue-painted boat, preparing to cast off. Charlie was frowning more deeply than ever in confusion as he jumped aboard a neighboring red-painted ketch.
“There are Pirate Lords?” he asked.
“Of course -- the owners of the seven Pieces of Eight, representing each of the seven seas,” Samantha said logically, as if it were common knowledge. “Or at least six out of the seven -- the Piece of Eight representing the Pacific Ocean was lost after its Lord, Bartholomew Sharp, died...anyway, Orion’s one of the Lords too, so he’ll be able to show your sister-in-law the way and you can meet the rest of your crew there -- ”
Charlie could hear a lot of shouting and pillaging growing louder in the distance. Soon the Flying Dutchman’s crew would be on top of them again --
He quickly threw out a hand, offering it to Chia Dalma. “Come on -- we’d better hurry.”
Chia glanced back in the direction of the flaming city, her blue eyes narrowing. It almost seemed like she was conflicted.
“Listen, Ms. Dalma,” said Samantha sharply, “Jones is under the control of the East India Trading Company and the British Navy.”
Both Charlie and Chia Dalma straightened up abruptly, visibly shocked.
“I overheard Jones say that Beckett’s orders had been to ‘send a message to all pirates.’ That can only mean that Beckett has some leverage over Jones and has impressed him into service. We can’t hope to deal with Jones until we deal with Beckett’s leverage first, and to do that, we have to deal with Beckett.”
Chia once again looked at the flaming buildings, her eyes rippling with emotions Charlie couldn’t read. Then, at last, she closed her eyes, swallowed, and turned to Charlie, taking his hand and boarding the boat.
“See you in Shipwreck Cove!” said Samantha, shooting a bright smile over her shoulder at Charlie. “Good luck!”
Charlie watched her go, before weighing anchor and immediately setting sail with Chia Dalma himself.
The crew of the Flying Dutchman only arrived just in time to see the two ketches already floating off into the distance and out of sight. Chia herself stood at the railing of the boat long after Tortuga had disappeared over the horizon, holding the moon-shaped locket around her neck in her hand. Charlie pulled on the rigging to pull the sail toward the starboard side, glancing over at her with some sympathy.
“You knew Jones...didn’t you?”
Chia glanced back at Charlie, her eyes very unreadable. Then she returned her gaze to the horizon.
Charlie secured the rigging, knotting it tightly.
“...I understand how hard it is, to have to leave someone behind. There’s someone I’ve left behind too -- two people, in fact...who are also probably having to bow to the whims of Cutler Beckett, even if I’m sure they don’t want to...”
The memory of Percy’s pleading face and Carewyn’s stoicism in the face of her heartbreak both rippled over his mind.
“Charlie – don’t do this – think of Mum – think of us – ”
“I want you on a vessel so strong and so fast…that I can never catch up to you again.”
Charlie closed his eyes, inhaling and exhaling heavily.
“...Sometimes, though...the only way you can really help them is by leaving them...however hard it is.”
There was a silence. Charlie opened his eyes and headed up to the helm, turning the wheel to help steer the boat through the waves.
While he was piloting the boat, however, he was interrupted by the soft clink. Chia Dalma had placed something on the edge of the deck within Charlie’s reach.
“This is for you, Charles Weasley,” she said.
Charlie blinked and picked it up. It was an old pewter button encrusted with gold and decorated with the icon of an anchor and an intricate cursive “S.”
“Oh, ah...thank you,” said Charlie awkwardly. He turned the button over in his hand. “...What’s the ‘S’ stand for?”
“Sharp,” Chia responded. “Bartholomew Sharp.”
Charlie straightened up. “The Pirate Lord Samantha mentioned?”
Chia inclined her head in a nod. “That is his Piece of Eight. Sharp abandoned his duties as Pirate Lord of the Pacific Ocean long before dying in prison in disgrace, and since then, it has been largely forgotten, by both pirates and honest explorers alike. It’s the last untamed sea, of the seven...”
Her blue eyes bore into Charlie’s face.
“...And now...it will be your responsibility...Pirate Lord Charles Weasley.”

This is a laydown of what went down during our last closed event — THE HUNT. It will mainly focus on what went down on the island itself, as plotted with the original ghost trekking breakfast club: Jonathan, Ayla, Jaya, Emma-Rose, Iskender & the late Philippa. For the bulk of the action, you can find all the events here: (x), (x), (x).
The initial grand conspiracy for the hunt happened on 27th of July, in The Promethean’s otherwise empty sickbay, between the six people mentioned above and sergeant Jack Fox (dragged there by their date, we presume). All conspirators agree the trek back to Devon Island is necessary in order to find more information about the creature. Jack Fox thinks it’s an insane idea, and, over the rattling sound of six empty skulls, his brain agrees to stay back and coordinate the (eventual) rescue party.
By this time, THE NEVERNEDING DARKNESS has already fallen over The Arctic, but its first victim, THE LOVER, had not yet been claimed.
The Lover’s death, THE SONGS INSIDE THE DARKNESS, coincides with the departure of the cryptid hunters in the middle of the following night: 28th of July.
In the turmoil, their disappearance takes some hours to get noticed. Thankfully, some thought it was a good idea to leave letters behind, just in case they had any chance of getting away scot-free with this. Peak brain synergy, that. So, yes, in the course of the next day, their escape is noticed, and all tracks lead to Devon Island. Like, the place they just escaped. Grand, says Malachy Dowling, and begins to gather the rescue party. They set out on the 29th of July. Both treks, the saviors and the doomed’s, take 10h one way.
It should be noted: the air? Freezing. The visibility? Pitch black. The lanterns they brought? Feeble. The hotel? Trivago. So this is what takes place on the island:
Jonathan and Emma manage to collect a few soil & vegetation samples. Iskender takes a moment to chastise them both, while he is quick to write down as much as he can from the physical impressions of the party.
Ayla and Pippa are scattering lamplight every which way, working to illuminate the path of the other three. Jaya has her guns cocked, and her feral frown down pat. Everything is in place. Now all they have to do is wait for this creature, or one of its manifestations, to make its demands known, to make contact.
What happened instead is that, ever so slowly, in the seamless mapping of one’s own dreams and fears, the crew starts to experience slips of visions. Or so they called them, because one must call the unspeakable something. Yet they were not external; they were not projections coming from without. Rather, this was an immersion to something inward, something always waiting but never trodden before. A realm and a shoreline. Some of the trekkers can later be heard claiming they were actually transported. That the sightings were born from their own selves, and no other possessed them. That it led them to different places, gaps in the fabric of the earth and sky.
They were awake for all of it... and yet they were not, because all their senses, anything they might wield to engage with the other world, existed in another place.
Jonathan saw: A creature trapped in this place, hungering for help, its head nested in a bed of soft flowers. In his mind, he was approaching to save it, to save them all; the stillness of a statue was actually the urgency of a child in a meadow.
Ayla saw: Green rolling hills, an endless undulation of grass and movement, that when they tried to touch it withered below their feet. Seaglass skies, seaglass human faces. They try to stick their own mouths to them, but only meet death and dearth instead.
Emma saw: A savage garden teeming with thorns, with plants that have grown not only teeth, but claws, pincers, and mouths, all crooning in the voices of dead friends. Is this what led her to walk to Philippa? To lead all of them by the brook, the river of soot?
Iskender saw: Stepping through a valley of sand, a valley of dead kings, and wading in a river. He knew the river was blood that belonged to him, to people like him. Its warmth had more of home than he’d ever felt before. He remembered wanting to go under.
Jaya saw: A finger floating in a barrel of brine, a pair of eyes torn from their sockets. The inside of ship’s hull, no hatch for its closings, no stairs for the exit. The trapping of wood, of salt, of things that have grown stale and untouched inside the darkness.
Philippa saw: A furl of white dress, linen on a round shoulder. She had the weight of a hand in hers: nothing has ever carried so much presence for her, such tangibility. She thought it was a child’s hand - the child she once was, the child she’ll never have.
The dreams spool on, the closest thing to endless the mind can endure.
Emma kills Philippa by the small stream. Her eyes are focused, attuned, turning sharp over the bones. Bending down in her blood, she begins to watch.
Iskender and Ayla kneel for the ritual, kneel for the things that wait in the sky.
Jonathan speaks to creatures that have never needed forgiveness, never needed song. He is begging them to come here, come back. At one point, he begins to cry out apologies, cry out to names both human and inhuman. It lasts for hours before everything falls silent.
The salvage crew arrives.

Harpy
The Harpies were mythical monsters in greek mythology that had the form of a bird with a human female face; often agents of punishment they abducted people and tortured them on their way to HADES’ domain, employed by the God as instruments for the punishment of the guilty. They stole food from their victims and would carry evildoers to Erinnyes of the Furies (female goddesses of vengeance and retribution). Their name means snatchers and is thus very appropriate for the acts they carried out. Known as the hounds of ZEUS, they were dispatched by the God to snatch away people and things from the earth; sudden and mysterious disappearances were often attributed to them.
They initially were classified as wind spirits, seen as the personifications of destructive winds. Hesiod mentioned two harpies by name; Aello (storm swift) and Ocypete (swift wing) and Virgil called another, Celaeno (darkness). In the Homeric poems, the Harpies are nothing but personified storm winds, and he only named Podarge (felt foot) who was married to the West Wind Zephyrus and gave birth to the two horses of Achilles; Xanthus and Balius.
Hesiod described them as lovely fair locked and winger maidens, the daughters of Thaumas and the Oceanid Electra, who surpassed winds and birds in the speed of flight. Grecian pottery depicted the harpies as beautiful women with wings. However, as early as Aeschylus, in the Eumenides, Harpies are described as ugly creatures with wings and later writers would carry these characteristics so far as to represent them as disgusting, cruel and terrifying monsters that were always ravenously hungry. Sometimes they were thought to be cousins of the Gorgons, three sisters with hair made of horrible venomous snakes and a stone wielding stare, Medusa is the most famous of the three sisters.
They appear as evil forces in Ovid’s story of King Phineus of Thrace, whom Zeus gave the gift of prophecy. Phineus used this gift against the gods, uncovering their secret plans and was thus punished by an angry Zeus, sentenced to an island, blind and with a buffet of food he could not eat because the Harpies would steal all the food before he was able to indulge and satisfy his hunger. Years later Phineus was rescued by his fate by Jason and the Argonauts, and the winged Boreades drove the Harpies away. The Boreades were twin winged brothers named Calais and Zetes, sons of Boreas and Oreithyia. The goddess Iris commanded that they turn back and not harm the wind-spirits thus the ‘dogs of great Zeus,’ the Harpies, escaped to their cave in Minoan Crete leaving their past residence of the islands called Strophades. In exchange, the exiled King told Jason how to pass the Symplegades Rocks. In this form the Harpies acted as agents of punishment; vicious, cruel and violent.
According to the story of the daughters of Pandareus, the Gods killed King Pandareus and his wife, after the King stole a bronze dog from Zeus. His daughters Cleodora and Merope were spared and raised by several of the Greek goddesses on Mount Olympus, particularly Aphrodite. When the girls reached an age to be married off, Aphrodite went to seek permission from Zeus for the marriages and while she was gone the Harpies came and took the daughters to become servants of the Furies.
The Harpies, like many characters in Greek mythology, evolved over time and different tales, beginning as wind spirits then personified as winged woman and eventually into the monstrous creatures we most recognize today.
Other Interesting Facts:
• Harpies remained vivid mythical beasts throughout the Middle Ages, in Dante’s Inferno Harpies infest a tortured wood in the seventh ring of Hell where the suicides have their punishment • Roman and Byzantine writers detailed their ugliness and monstrous qualities. • In the Aeneid, Aeneas encountered the Harpies on the Strophades as they made off with the feast the Trojans were setting, Celaeno cursed them, and the Trojans fled in fear of the mythical beasts • In ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ by Shakespeare, the term Harpy is used metaphorically to refer to a nasty or annoying woman, and though not often used in modern vernacular it is understood that this is what the term currently describes

Summary of K SEVEN STORIES “The Idol K”
I had compiled all 6 episodes of roughly 4 minutes of content (2 minutes for the ED song). 4 minutes x 6 episodes = 24 minutes = 1 anime episode.
Spoilers ahead. Sorry for any discrepancy (sequence and details etc). I tried to put in whatever I remembered I watched once and I’m not so good in remembering details. Some of the sub feels a bit vague.
1
The setting was the same as K Project except that the characters are idols under Kokujouji Daikaku’s jurisdiction. The Silver Record was having a meeting about rice. Shiro decided to organise a charity event. Kuroh reminded him that they knew nothing about rice and agriculture and THEY ARE IDOLS. They are not suppose to deal with that. Shiro responded with “can’t they do that?” much to Kuroh’s dismay. Worse still, it was not kept among the Silver Record. Shiro wanted to involve the other entertainment companies much to Kuroh’s horror. Shiro would approach HOMRA Entertainment first and Kuroh warned him it would be very difficult to get them to agree to collaborate with them considering their passion. Neko claimed to be close with Anna (she would be easier to talk to). Kuroh highlighted that Anna and Totsuka Tatara were exception but it would be difficult to get the other HOMRA idols such as the one who just returned from America and that he is a walking furnace (hottest looking with his hair down) and an idol who was calculative (can’t remember the actual word used to describe Kusanagi).
But still since Shiro had decided, Kuroh would lend him a land and the scene ended with the three of them leaving for HOMRA.
2
The Silver Trio headed to Bar HOMRA to talk them into joining them in their charity effort. Neko was as usual excited to see Anna. Mikoto is sleeping as usual (he is the hottest looking man in the room. Girls in cinema swoon over him when the scene was zoomed into his sleeping face). Totsuka was practicing his guitar. (This was the first time Shiro met Totsuka in person).
Kusanagi has received an email from Shiro about the collaboration. In terms of profit is a NO especially with Tatara and Anna commanding a fees of 100 million yens! Shiro showed his sincerity by paying them with… hmm… onigiri!! Well, Kusanagi was probably going to reject them BUT… in the nick of time someone commented that it tasted good. The sleeping boss had accepted the payment. He ate the onigiri. Totsuka and Anna followed suit as they were hungry after practicing so hard. Kusanagi sighed in defeat knowing that Shiro had used their weaknesses to his advantage. He would have rejected outright if he came with an air as the Boss of Silver Record. Since things come to this, they might as well do them this favour.
With that the silver trio would be heading to Promotion Scepter 4 next. They knew they would be a harder nut to crack but still they are going anyway.
3
Awashima, Doumyouji and Hidaka were rehearsing a play. This is where the chibi characters were presented as a flat piece of paper as they turned their bodies. In the script, Awashima was torn between choosing Doumyouji or Hidaka as her “love” partner when the Silver Trio paid their visit.
Neko was able to parrot Awashima’s dialogue. It was said that their Captain was out and asked them to rehearse till he comes back. It was their culture to call their boss as “Captain”. Awashima had read their email and noted that Shiro wanted them to collaborate for a “rice” charity event. She was sorry that she had to reject as Shiro presented the origiri as the payment to them when Munakata stepped in. He accepted the offer immediately much to everybody’s dismay. Munakata explained that Isana-shi (he addressed him that way) had the benefits stated clearly in his email to them and why they should help. Kuroh then realised Shiro used different ways to deal with different company: Homra Entertainment with “feeling” and Promotion Scepter 4 with logic. Next, Shiro is going to Jungle Pro which doesn’t work with “feeling” and “logic”. Even so, Shiro was not going to leave them out (acknowledging their ability).
4
Hisui, Sukuna, Iwa and Yukari were debating whether Isana Yashiro will drop by to visit them. Only Hisui feels that he would come. Hisui feels troubled. Because he feels that Isana Yashiro and himself are birds of a feather. Indeed, The Silver Trio came to their underground hideout.
Shiro came to talk them into joining them for the rice charity event. They discussed why JUNGLE chose to operate underground. They disagreed that only certain chosen people can become idols and Hisui had a dream to give all people a chance to become idols. Yukari claimed that he could shine better with JUNGLE and mentioned about Ichigen which pissed Kuroh off as he had no right to talk about Ichigen-sama. Kuroh decided he would follow Shiro’s teaching. Iwa noted that Shiro was retrospective person. They talked some things in the past with Kokujouji Daikaku and it’s a high level conversation. Hisui would like to shoot a music video with Ameno Miyabi as he finds her similar and Neko would only follow Shiro and no one else.
Shiro presented his onigiri and Hisui stared at them for some time. He would agree to help if JUNGLE is able to get undivided attention and Shiro agreed to it. Hence JUNGLE joined them in for the event.
The Silver Trio is done with the the three entertainment companies and Shiro decided to pay a visit to the most popular duo in the industry next, Fushimi Saruhiko and Yata Misaki.
PS: Out of the 4, Iwa as the Grey King, had a different uniform.
5
The Silver Record Trio headed to the school island to pay the duo a visit. Kuroh wondered why they need to pay them a visit when their entertainment companies had agreed to help them. Shiro mentioned they were just going to tell them to “Please support them”. The school island had the sceneries suitable for filming.
The duo were filming special effect for a kid show where one is an ally of justice and the other is a devil who kills all people. Yeah, Yata is a hero and he gets a cape on screen on The Idol K finally. The two of them had a healthy rivalry relationship Shiro hoped Kuroh can have with Yukari.
Yata and Fushimi should have been over (the betrayal) as Yata is talking to Fushimi and getting along very well with him. During their break, Fushimi was grumbling about how lousy the script is written and Yata said he enjoyed it. Shiro greeted them and hope to get their support. They had both heard from their company about the charity event. Yata had no complaint if Kusanagi had agreed. Fushimi will just do his job.
Shiro presented them with the onigiri as the reward. Fushimi stared at it and Shiro replied that there’s only salt as filling. Yata teased that Shiro have even make the effort to research on Fushimi’s preference. They are going to have a wonderful performance.
6
It is finally the day of the rice charity event and everybody gather at Hirasaka Building. Shiro is looking up to the sky. Kuroh and Neko came to the rooftop to search for him. They can’t start without him.
Kuroh talked to Shiro as initially he thought Shiro came up with this in a whim but he realized that he had carefully planned for this. His intention is more than just having the charity event. Despite being similar to Hisui Nagare, they are very different altogether. While Hisui will like to let everyone become an idol, Shiro only asked each of them for just one little something which is to put a smile on others’ faces. The idols are only restricted to the work by their individual company. By gathering all entertainment companies together, not just pleases all the fans, it makes the idols happy too.
Yata is seen fired up. Mikoto have not felt excitement for a very long time glancing at Munakata’s direction. Munakata is getting his members ready. Awashima declared that they will not lose, Fushimi will do what he do as usual. Sukuna decided he would not lose out.
Back to the Silver Trio, Kuroh noted Shiro had been carrying the origiri all the time and wondered if he had not finished distributing them. Nope he had carefully counted and there are onlt three left. As the event is going to take a long time, they are to eat up so they will have the energy till the end of the event.

MASTERPIECE: LES MISERABLES: Actor and executive producer David Oyelowo on the new PBS series – Exclusive Interview
The actor talks playing the obsessed Javert
The new six-part drama LES MISERABLES on PBS MASTERPIECE, currently airing Sunday nights (it will repeat at an earlier hour in June), after premiering earlier this year in the U.K. on BBC1. David Oyelowo (pronounced “oh-YELLOW-oh”) plays the fanatical Inspector Javert. Oyelowo is also an executive producer on this non-musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s massive 1862 novel set in France as revolution is brewing. Reformed convict Jean Valjean (Dominic West), a genuinely good man, devotes his life to helping others, but Javert is determined to track him down.
Oyelowo is also an executive producer on this LES MISERABLES, although it is not in conjunction with his Yoruba Saxon Productions company. Oyelowo, originally from Oxford, England, was a regular on the British espionage thriller MI-5. His film credits on both sides of the Atlantic include SHOOT THE MESSENGER, AS YOU LIKE IT, THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, LINCOLN, JACK REACHER, LEE DANIELS’ THE BUTLER, NIGHTINGALE (for which he received both Emmy and Golden Globe Outstanding Lead Actor nominations, and was co-produced by Yoruba Saxon), SELMA, QUEEN OF KATWE, THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX and A WRINKLE IN TIME. Oyelowo has also starred in the features CAPTIVE, FIVE NIGHTS IN MAINE, and A UNITED KINGDOM, all of which Yoruba Saxon was involved in producing.
Series adapter Andrew Davies says at a press session for LES MISERABLES that he had initially thought that it might be interesting to have a black Jean Valjean and a white Javert, but Oyelowo says he was only approached to play Javert. “We have seen the reverse of that dynamic numerous times. And the truth of the matter is, contrary to some popular belief, not every black man living in Europe in the early 1800s was some kind of slave or subservient in some way. Napoleon had black generals in his army, again, little-known fact. I am always looking for ways to shake things up for myself. And so what was actually of more interest to me was, I had had the opportunity to play a number of virtuous, good men in my career, and I was fascinated by this character who is so obsessed in his pursuit of another human being, down to what he deems to be his own moral compass, in a sense. He is not, in his own mind, a villain. In fact, he is the hero of his own story. In relation to Jean Valjean, I’m the righteous one. I’m the one doing God’s work. I’m the one who is the law keeper, the law abider. And that was a very fascinating thing for me to get to play, knowing, as David the actor and the fan of the book, that’s not necessarily how everyone else would perceive it. But how do you stick to that for six episodes? And that’s the opportunity that Andrew afforded, in that you have so much more context around that over the six episodes than you could ever have with the musical, as it were.”
It hadn’t occurred to Oyelowo before that he’d like to play Javert or that he’d ever be approached to do the role, he says. “But the thing that really struck me about him was his Old Testament quality, in relation to Jean Valjean’s New Testament quality. Javert thinks he is judgment. He is the law. He is what he deems to be righteous. And I think, on the other hand, Jean Valjean is hope. He is faith. He is the pursuit of redemption. He is love. And those two things not necessarily should be at odds, but they are in the context of this piece. It’s really interesting to find out that Victor Hugo based both Javert and Jean Valjean on the same person. This man, who he based his characters on, embodies these qualities, and that was the clue for me. And Javert sees himself in Jean Valjean, and it’s the part of himself he hates. Javert was born in prison to criminal parents, and that is part of his identity. So when he sees this man, who is the embodiment of that side of him he hates, he feels the need to destroy him. And that’s what he is going to do until that window through which he sees Jean Valjean turns into a mirror, and he realizes that the person he hates is himself, which is the reason he ends up destroying himself. So in many ways, those were the things that really drew me to this story.”
And then, in response to a question, Davies declares firmly that he hates the very popular musical version of LES MISERABLES.
“Noooo!” Oyelowo cries, and proceeds to expressively mime someone in slow motion trying and failing to prevent a terrible accident.
Later, Oyelowo discusses this and much more about the new LES MISERABLES.
ASSIGNMENT X: You’ve done press sessions for the new LES MISERABLES before. Had you ever before heard Andrew Davies say that he hates the musical LES MIZ?
DAVID OYELOWO: I’ve read it. I haven’t been there while he’s said it live.
AX: I’m wondering how they’re going to transcribe your reaction to that …
OYELOWO: I’m wondering, too. That was my inside voice coming out. [laughs] The truth of the matter is, there are many people who love the musical. And we want people who love the musical to watch the miniseries, because they’re going to get so much more context for these characters they love, and this story they love. Can I just say that I love the musical, for the record. But then there’s the other side – there are people who have read the book and love the book and don’t like musicals and haven’t seen any sort of tele-visual or cinematic rendition of it, and they also hopefully will get to see made flesh and blood those characters in this story that they love.
AX: You’re known for a lot of film work and a lot of stage work. You’re not so much known for television, though you’ve done some episodics here and there. Is this a form that you’d like to do more of, or is this a one-off, or how do you view it?
OYELOWO: No, it’s just the way things have gone. I just look for great material, and this was certainly that. The writing was indisputable, the story is indisputable, the iconic nature of the story is indisputable. So it’s less for me as to whether it’s TV or film, it’s more, am I going to be challenged by it, is it something that I feel could be good, to be perfectly frank. Probably a long-running series isn’t something I’m in a hurry to do yet, if I’m totally honest. But now, with cable and ten-episode arcs a year, there are all sorts of great ways to do television that doesn’t take you away from film and theatre, which is something that’s very important to me as well.
AX: Is part of what’s appealing to you about playing Javert, not just that he’s like this Old Testament burning bush fury, but that he’s got these issues of projecting his persona onto another man, and the self-hatred, and the unawareness of the self-hatred?
OYELOWO: Yes, exactly right. I think that’s the thing that makes a character truly interesting, is when you watch them in real time finding things out about themselves, and about the world around them, especially when those things are at odds with their own beliefs. Because I think that, again, is what it is to be a human being.
AX: Have you seen any of the previous non-musical film versions of LES MISERABLES?
OYELOWO: No, I didn’t, and to be perfectly honest, one of the things that appealed to me so much about LES MIZ, when you think about this 1,500-page novel, to boil that down to two hours of a film, it just seems inconceivable to me, in a satisfying way. I think with a musical, by virtue of that form, you know that you’re kind of seeing something in more primary colors. It’s more of a riff on the story, as opposed to the meat, but that was the thing I felt reading these six episodes, is that, my goodness. It’s actually extraordinary, talking to Andrew, because you’re still going, “I still don’t know how you did it. I’m talking to you right now, and I don’t know how you took this tome and distilled it down to these six episodes.” That to me is the satisfying thing, that it’s more than just what a film can afford you as well.
AX: Had you worked on an Andrew Davies script before?
OYELOWO: No. It’s the first time I’ve seen a lot of him, obviously.
AX: You have a production company, and you are an executive producer on LES MISERABLES, but your production company is not involved …
OYELOWO: I have a production company, Yoruba Saxon, but I’m on this as a freelance EP. One of the main things I did was bring [LES MISERABLES] to PBS, was to make that happen, because I was very keen to make sure that the North American roll-out was robust, and was going to be one whereby people who may not otherwise see this story will get to see it.
AX: Did you have a preexisting business association with MASTERPIECE executive producer Rebecca Eaton?
OYELOWO: Yes. Because we’d worked on SMALL ISLAND together, and we’d become friends doing that. And the truth of the matter is, [the producers of LES MISERABLES] considered a lot of companies, and we wanted to make sure we went with the company who was going to have it be one of their flagship shows, a place where they were going to get the word out. There are so many channels now, there are so many outlets doing great work, and to peak your head above the crowd is something that requires passion, belief, money, and intention, and this was the place that felt like our show was going to get the best treatment.
AX: What else are you working on right now?
OYELOWO: I’m about to direct a film called THE WATER MAN. We start that in May. That’s a story about a young boy who’s looking for this mythic figure who he believes can save his mother from cancer. That’s going to be my directorial debut, so I’m very excited about that. That’s [being produced by] Yoruba Saxon.
AX: And what would you most like people to know about LES MISERABLES?
OYELOWO: Well, that the story they already know, but maybe don’t have the full context of, I believe we bring that context, and the musical that people love, they are going to see more depth than maybe they knew was there. And for those who know nothing about LES MIZ, it’s a timeless story that really looks at one man’s journey towards redemption and hope through real adversity, and I think that’s a pretty universal story. [And another] man’s descent from what he deems to be the moral compass into a reflection of himself as actually being amoral in relation to this very moral man.
This interview was conducted during PBS’s portion of the Winter 2019 Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour.
