#killua's awful family

i feel like its pretty obvious why killua left gon like it started being built up during caa when he was like. i cant be around gon unless i can protect him and i cant protect him if im still putting my fear above those i love. and then he went against illumi while attempting to protect alluka and nanika and he didnt fight bc he knew he would lose, he resorted to using nanika for her ability knowing it would hurt her and alluka. and on top of that it proved that illumis needle was not the only reason that killua was a coward and everything else he was derided for. and all of this was happening while gon was in the hospital on the brink of death bc killua couldnt protect him. so in other words killua fulfilled the conditions that he set out for himself that would mandate separating himself from gon. i find it kind of absurd to act like its because of gons actions like gon could stab killua to death just to resurrect him and do it again and killua would still follow him to the ends of the earth its not about that lol you werent supposed to take the line about killua needing to heal gon so gon could apologize at face value
#anyway its a really telling misrepresentation of biskys words#she did not literally mean 'you dont deserve to be in gons life until you have earned it'#she knew gon was really the only motive killua had for doing anything so she used that to encourage his training and then it backfired#but it says a lot that thats how he misread that pretty milquetoast statement so egregiously#as funny as the awful zoldyck family relations graph is its important to recognize that most of killuas relationships#had been essentially transactional until he met gon

something about how alluka is sorta portrayed as this one dimensional happy go lucky girl for a lot of the elections arc and how killua is pretty much also using her, but when killua tells nanika to go away, we finally see alluka not only stand up for the both of them, but its the first time we truly see her upset and lashing out, showing that she ISNT just the happy but oblivious little sister, she knows how shes treated and that killua is the only one who respects her and she thinks its unfair that nanika doesnt get that respect either. we see the story through killua’s perspective, so it makes sense that this is where alluka’s behavior changes- when killua apologizes and promises to do better
#hi i finished hxh with eve today and im in shambles#im not saying killua is awful btw i love his character growth here#like hes getting further and further away from his awful family and their values#like its not enough to just denounce his family and go against them and spite them- hes also gotta genuinely stick up for his sister#in a way that truly matters#echoed voice

Be warned. The stuff in that post is pretty/very messed up if you want to read it. But, this is the Zoldycks after all.
Semifinals
Fire Nation Royal Family (Avatar: The Last Airbender) VS the Zoldycks (Hunter X Hunter)
Fire Nation Royal Family
Members: Sozin, Azulon, Iroh, Ozai, Ursa, Zuko, Azula
Propaganda:
CW: attempted murder, physical abuse, burning
"*gestures widely* The murders/murder attempts are all over the place" "They’re so messed up. Uncle Iroh’s the only one with anything resembling mental stability." "So much abuse. Ozai burned half of Zuko's face off and emotionally manipulated Azula."
The Zoldycks
Members: Zeno, Silva, Kikyo, Illumi, Milluki, Killua, Alluka, Kalluto
Propaganda:
CW: murder, torture, isolation
"What ISN'T dysfunctional about them? A family of assassins, they train all their children to be killers, including with literal torture. Killua is the one of the family who's a main character, the heir of the family, and he eventually runs away due to the dysfunctionality. All the kids are isolated, told they don't deserve friendship, and they all have different opinions on family matters but it affects them all! Illumi wants to control Killua to as extreme a degree as he possibly can, and even though Silva lets Killua leave, he fully expects him to return home and join the family business again, and both him and Zeno knew about Illumi's extreme methods of control." Note: edited for length, full submission here
#dysfunctional-family-fight#both these families are dysfunctional as hell.#but please; please vote the zoldycks.#i admit while i love both atla and hxh#i do have more of a bias to hxh#but legitimately#the zoldycks are one of the messed up dysfunctional awful (i love them all though; so much) terrible family i have ever met.#also; i am going to be linking a post#just show even more of just; how terrible the zoldyck family is.#man. that post makes me feel so bad for killua and canary.#and another being but i won't mention them specifically bc well it s very dark and awful.#u will probably figure out who that other being is if u check out that post.#zoldyck#zoldycks#the zoldycks#zoldyck family#the zoldyck family#tagging#propaganda#zoldyck propaganda#because of the post i am linking and these tags and stuff.#hxh#hunter x hunter#seriously tho; atla better not win just bc people as so biased towards atla sometimes. like what happened in that sun and moon duo poll.#zuko and sokka winning against killua and gon and sasuke and naruto in that sun and moon pair poll (like; i like atla and zuko and sokka#more than naruto [both the series and character] and sasuke. but as a sun and moon pair. they fit more. than zuko and sokka. killua#and gon also fit more)#the Fire Nation Royal Family at least fits this poll more and i am happy both them and the Zoldycks have made it so far.#And i still love atla too ofc. And i am not saying it should never win ever. it is a great series and stuff after all.#but people can be so biased towards it sometimes.

𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐢’𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜é 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐳𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐲𝐜𝐤𝐬
illumi isn’t close with his family in the same sense that normal people are close with their families, but nonetheless he feels the need to inform them of major developments in his life. through a letter he tells his family of his engagement, and says that he is going to bring you to his home to see them all.
silva is indifferent, and zeno couldn’t care less, but kikyo is ecstatic that her illumi is finally going to marry someone- and that it isn’t that awful clown hisoka. she’d been seriously concerned for a second there. but she rounds up all the members of her family to be present on the day of your arrival (using excessive force because nobody really wanted to come besides alluka, who was only allowed to meet you because killua threatened to not show up unless alluka was permitted as well).
when you and illumi first arrive after the lengthy trip up the mountain, you are greeted by butlers gotoh and canary, whose presence startles you. you were aware of illumi’s great wealth and status, but it was certainly different from how you’d grown up. just getting inside the actual home is a process- illumi’s strength slightly freaking you out when he pushes open four of the doors to the entrance of the mansion without breaking a sweat and then encountering Mike, the Zoldycks’ monstrous dog. illumi does notice your apprehension, though, and plainly assures you that the dog won’t harm anybody it isn’t supposed to. you’re still visibly nervous, though, so illumi has you come closer to him and hold on to his arm. regardless, you realize it may be tougher to settle in than you thought.
at last, though, illumi brings you to his family. nobody reacts much outwardly to your presence, but you notice a white-haired boy with catlike eyes observing you closely, his expression a mixture of suspicion and confusion. standing beside the boy are two other black haired children- one with short black hair standing somberly with his hands folded in front of him, and the other an eager blue-eyed girl whose gaze sparkles as she looks at you. the white haired boy stands right behind the blue-eyed child. the tall, blonde man with a large frame illumi tells you is Silva, his father, and the slightly shorter man with white hair beside him is illumi’s grandfather, zeno.
without warning, you feel thin arms thrown around you in an embrace, and you almost jump out of your skin. but when you are released, you see the woman that can only be your fiancés mother, the only member of the family illumi had warned told you about prior to the visit. kikyo wears a large dress with an ostentatious petticoat and hat, and most notably a visor over where her eyes would be with one red glowing dot. her appearance is unsettling, and you find it a little difficult to force a smile when she greets you. illumi watches you from the side of his eye, his face unreadable.
just as kikyo is pulling away, something gleaming and silver and large is thrown right at your head, whizzing right by kikyo’s hat and slicing off a single hair from the feather on her hat. you don’t hesitate to lift your hand to your face and catch the sword immediately, the blade slicing your hand- but you don’t flinch as the blood seeps onto the blade and down your arm. you tilt your head to the side to see your assailant is silva, his arm still poised in throwing position. his expression grows less stony once he sees you’ve caught his weapon.
there’s a moment of icy silence, you lowering the weapon to your side, and silva watches you even more intently before uttering a flat “welcome to the family.” with that, he and his father turn and disappear elsewhere inside the mansion. kikyo, though, takes this as her cue to immediately grab you so you two can walk by yourselves throughout the mansion. illumi doesn’t look super pleased to see his mother take you, but he knows better than to try and stop her.
you two are navigating the long, hollow corridors of the zoldyck home. you pass many unsettling family pictures and paintings as well as various weapons like swords and arrows on the walls, and several human sculptures that seem a little too realistic. you’re also sure that you pass at least two torture chambers. it’s an eerie atmosphere, which was what you’d expected, but it doesn’t help your nerves.
kikyo either doesn’t notice or doesn’t care about your apprehension, and instead starts talking about how much she’s wanted a daughter and how thrilled she is to finally have a “daughter” to take in. but then she grows eerily serious. she talks about how you’ll be expected to be the next lady of the house and, since you’re becoming a zoldyck, how you’ll have to follow the same codes they do as a family and exhibit the same values- which makes you antsy. the woman clearly seems a bit unhinged. you’re relieved when the walk ends and you’re returned to your fiancé, who gestures for you to take his arm again. illumi’s mother’s mood changes drastically yet again and she storms off, shrieking to her husband that it’s rude for him to walk off after hardly having said anything.
now you and illumi are left with the four other children- the white-haired boy, the girl with long hair, the boy with short hair and purple-pink eyes, and a homely fat boy behind the three younger ones. he holds a small console in front of his face and doesn’t even seem to acknowledge your presence. illumi introduces them to you.
“y/n, i’d like you to meet my siblings,” illumi states in his usual manner, walking slowly towards them. gesturing to the white-haired boy, he says, “this is my brother, killua. i call him kil.” he looks down at his brother with an eerie smile and black eyes like pits, but killua keeps his stony gaze straight ahead. his hand rests on the shoulder of the girl in front of him.
“this is my youngest brother, kalluto,” illumi continues, placing a large hand on top of the boy’s head. his hands remain folded in front of him, and he gives you a polite nod. looking toward the fat boy behind kalluto, his expression slightly curling into one of disdain, illumi tells you, “and this is the second oldest, milluki.” milluki doesn’t acknowledge you at all, which seems to visibly irritate illumi, but he doesn’t reprimand the boy.
you’re confused when illumi doesn’t introduce the girl, and you glance up at him in confusion. “illumi, what about her?” you look down at the girl in front of killua, who looks surprised for a second, and so does killua behind her. “you forgot to tell me her name. she’s a beautiful little girl.” you manage a small smile, leaning down slightly to stroke the girl’s hair. her blue eyes sparkle with joy, and killua looks up at you as well, looking a little confused but also very relieved. “your mother said she had no daughters.”
illumi’s eyes lower ever so slightly, giving him a dismissive look. “she doesn’t,” he answers flatly, and his tone makes you feel like that’s the end of the discussion. you’re definitely lost- but you suppose it’s something illumi will have to fill you in on later. you glance sideways at illumi, hand still resting in the girl’s hair. she definitely doesn’t seem to mind you, and killua appears to have warmed up to you as well. milluki’s vanished elsewhere and kalluto watches the whole exchange from the corner of his eye.
suddenly you all hear kikyo call for illumi, who immediately stands up upon hearing his name. “you will remain here until i return.” he tells you, his tone no-nonsense, and heels clicking he makes his way down the dark hallway, leaving you alone with the kids.
the second illumi is out of earshot, the girl brightens up. “hi!” she chirps, bouncing on her feet excitedly. “my name is alluka!”
you’re slightly startled, but you smile at the girl anyway and tell her hi, still wondering why illumi seems so detached from this girl in particular.
killua seems to read your mind. “i know what you’re thinking,” he tells you, not unkindly. “listen, my family doesn’t like alluka much- and they refer to her with male pronouns. just go along with it in front of them. it’s safer for you.” he pauses, then looks down. “but thanks for being nice to her.”
you frown and nod, deciding not to ask any more questions about it. kalluto still hasn’t said anything, but somehow you don’t feel like this boy will be anything to worry about.
with alluka and killua having warmed up to you, you get into a conversation, and kalluto eventually offers a few words after awhile- although never acknowledging alluka directly. most of it is basically killua wondering how the hell you managed to get engaged to someone like illumi.
“No way he didn’t force you to go out with him.”
“What the hell do you even see in that guy? He’s batshit crazy- and he’s definitely not a model.”
“How’d he propose? Did he try to kill you and you survived?”
“‘Man, you really gotta be messed up for Illumi to like you.”
“What even made him wanna get married to you? What even made you wanna get married to him?”
“You gotta be kidding me.”
“And you said yes? You’re crazy!”
that’s all i got :3 hope u enjoyed <33

Can you write a scenario/headcannons where the hxh characters have a crush on Zoldyck!reader? (I think reader would have such overprotective brothers, killua and illumi lol)
HXH with a crush on Zoldyck!reader
Characters: Kurapika Kurta, Leorio Paladaknight, Chrollo Lucilfer Type: Fluff?, Headcanons, Gn!reader
why is illumi the only one with eyebrows and a mouth in this photo
Warnings: none
Kurapika Kurta
out of his two older friends Killua thinks Kurapika is the better option
but he still doesn't like the idea of you dating anyone
like his dear older sibling is giving their attention to someone other than him? unacceptable!
Kurapika is a lot more reserved with his feelings than Leorio, leaving not much room for Killua to meddle
so the younger boy just watches from afar
he gives the blonde glares and intense side eyes, and when he feels he's getting too close he won't hesitate to swoop in and steal you away
Kurapika is pretty smart so he's probably found a few ways to get around your brother
after a while of you two talking without Killua's knowledge you eventually get together
one day he caught you two holding hands under a table at the diner or sitting at a bench
he actually screams
with erratic gestures to your guys' hands he's like "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN"
the boy is slack jawed
he thought he did such a good job keeping you separated
"watever just...don't hurt them or anything!"
Leorio Paladaknight
Killua's first reaction to learning this information is "No way, you're too old for my sibling!"
Killua babes he's only like 19
Leorio is by no means subtle with the way he feels about you even if he thinks he is
Killua makes it his life mission to keep you separated 💀
The group is splitting up and Leorio volunteers to go with you? So does Killua. He wants to sit next to you on the train? Aw too bad, your little brother is already sitting there
but if by some miracle you get away from your brother he doesn't waste a single moment in asking you out
after learning that his attempts to keep you separated failed, Killua gets a little pouty
"Seriously? You chose THIS guy!?" "What the hell is that supposed to mean you little shit!"
knowing you guys got together doesn't stop the boy from trying to get in the middle of things though
he's a pro at this point
he will find a way to crash literally any date you plan on going on soo you guys gotta be secretive about it
you probably had to come up with code words in order to plan dates 💀💀💀
Chrollo Lucilfer
the only way I see this working is if you were already part of the troupe so lets go with that
out of literally anyone on the planet he just HAD to have a crush on a Zoldyck
to say your family wasn't pleased would be an understatement
especially Illumi
the Zoldycks typically don't do -ships...like friendSHIPS or relationSHIPS so Chrollo pining for you is definitely an issue
and when two of your brothers end up joining the troupe after you
let's just say Chrollo isn't having the best time.
Kalluto is a lot less aggressive or opinionated on the matter than his eldest brother, but he still isn't fond of the idea of you ending up with the leader of the phantom troupe
he finds ways to draw your attention away from Chrollo
whereas Illumi isn't so passive
if he catches the head of the spiders so much as glancing at you he's going to stand in his line of vision with a stern "Stay away from my sibling."
and just to keep things easy on himself Chrollo heeds these warnings
well..until he's able to catch you alone
you guys are gonna have to date on the dl and be SERIOUSLY sneaky
dating while coming from a family of assassins is not an easy feat
In conlusion alongside being professional assassins, the Zoldyck boys are also professional cockblockers

Killua and the Power of Wishes
Okay going to try and make this coherent because the amount of wish association all through Killua's character development makes me want to chew plaster.
As a fair warning, this analysis ended up being long as hell, and I didn't even include everything I could've said. This is also just one lens to analyze Killua's story arc with, and I feel there are other valid interpretations of some of these moments. This is just one of mine, so keep that in mind please.
One last warning that this analysis does discuss emotional manipulation and abuse, as is par for Killua's background.
Let's set the stage with one important piece of info: Killua's birthday.
Killua's birthday is July 7th, the same day as Tanabata. Tanabata is a folklore-rich festival where according to legend, the two lovers, weaver Orihime and cowherd Hikoboshi, represented by the two stars, Vega and Altair, are allowed to reunite once a year after separation. A popular custom of Tanabata is to make wishes by writing them down on tanzaku, then hang it on a bamboo tree so that the wish might one day come true.
Tanabata is also known as the Star Festival. Please keep this in mind, because I'm going to come back to it.
To finish setting up the lens for this analysis, I'm going to need to dig into the game-changer scene for Killua's early characterization - his confrontation with Illumi at the end of the Hunter Exam, and specifically, the exact nature of Illumi's manipulation of him.
I say "game-changer" because it really is - up until this point, it's kind of fair to not fully know what to think about Killua. Certainly, he seems excited to hang out with Gon (he approached him first, after all) and he's friendly enough, but he's also arrogant and claims to be motivated mainly by boredom. For all intents and purposes, Killua seems set up to be Gon's dangerous yet charismatic rival... but then this scene happens and it completely turns it all on its head.
Because Killua may have mentioned his family was controlling before, but he seriously downplayed the severity of it - likely because he has no point of reference for how awful his situation actually is other than it makes him feel bad and trapped. Illumi's appearance immediately shifts our understanding of Killua from runaway murder kid with annoying murder family to straight-up victim of emotional abuse, and dissolves his cockiness instantly to terror.
What does all this have to do with wishes? Glad you asked. Let's look at some of Illumi's dialogue.
[ID: A screenshot from HxH episode 20 of the 2011 anime. Killua looks up, sweating and conflicted, as Illumi tells him "You don't want anything or wish for anything." End ID.]
This is the crux of Illumi's (and the family's) control. Killua's desires do not align with the family trade. They must be excised from him.
When Killua insists that he does have something that he really wants, Illumi says "Tell me what it is you want", in a mockery of a certain other sibling who would have helped fulfill this wish - Illumi asks only so he can completely dismantle it. And Killua isn't even really surprised at Illumi's words, just heartbroken. You can tell this isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened.
Killua states his wish quite fervently; he really means it. But his words are not rebellious, nor cathartic. Instead, he answers Illumi quietly, as if fearful or ashamed, almost reminiscent of a sinner's confession.
[ID: Two screenshots from HxH episode 20 of the 2011 anime. In the first Killua looks down with a troubled expression, saying "I want to become friends with Gon...". In the second, his face is hidden as he stands with hands clenched at his sides with a spotlight on him. He says "I'm sick of killing people..." End ID.]
It's such an innocent, simple want.
And Illumi proceeds to make him feel like even something so simple is harmful and selfish of him... not to the family, but to Gon.
In a matter of a few minutes, Illumi breaks down Killua's wish by:
Acknowledging this desire, but twisting it into something that will inevitably fade over time, thereby causing Killua to doubt his own conviction and feelings -> "Gon is a novelty, a radiant presence who has piqued your curiosity. No more than that."
Acknowledging that Gon is someone important to Killua, and undermining this by telling him that by his very nature, he will eventually bring harm to Gon, which makes him feel as though Killua cannot trust himself to be a good friend -> "If you try to be friends with him, you will one day want to kill him... because you are, by nature, a murderer." (As a... delightful... bonus, this is also apparently how Silva and Illumi justify their treatment of Killua to him - "This is the essence of your existence and we taught you accordingly." Like they adapted to Killua's nature, instead of them molding Killua into who they wanted him to be.)
Delivering an ultimatum - to fight Illumi and win, or else Gon will die - that Killua is doomed to fail due to his upbringing and the needle in his head. Since Killua doesn't know about the needle, he assumes this is his own personal failure, something Illumi feeds into -> "You're just not qualified to make friends."
And it's the last point that breaks him. The first two shoot down Killua's present wish, but the last proceeds to shatter any hope he might've had of wishing for anything similar in the future - he has told him that his desires are weak, temporary, inherently dangerous to those around him, and worst of all, aren't enough on their own for him to deserve friendship and love from others. And the clincher: Killua feels like all of this is his own fault, that there is something inherently dangerous and wrong with him!
So, it doesn't even matter to Killua anymore if he fails the Hunter Exam. To him, he just failed the only test that mattered.
10/10 manipulation, Illumi. Fuck you, seriously.
Killua's character arc is mainly his quest and struggle to refute Illumi's arguments and to shake off the manipulation and the ways in which his family have molded and controlled him. And by far, the most difficult part of his conditioning to shake off is this idea that he is undeserving of anything more than what he is already given.
It's almost like the family has drilled it into him that wishes are dangerous. How interesting.
Thankfully, however, there are two parties to Killua's wish here - Gon, too, is a part of it, and it is not simply his reciprocated desire to be Killua's friend that saves him, but also his recognition of Killua's situation for what it is (notably, when no one else correctly identified the true issue).
"You know it wasn't his choice. You manipulated him, kidnapping his spirit!"
The ensuing Zoldyck family arc emphasizes that Gon is 100% correct: the main hold Killua's family has on him isn't physical - it's all emotional.
Killua breaks one of his shackles when Milluki threatens to have his new friends killed, but he only breaks the rest when Zeno tells him he's free to go. So, if Killua could break loose at any point, was this still a rescue like Gon said?
Well, yes - just because he absolutely could've broken out physically at any time, that does not mean he could just leave. That's the nature of situations such as this - it's not as simple as "just leaving". Support is necessary, as is actually having something tangible outside the situation to go to - otherwise there is little point to leaving at all. Gon (and Kurapika and Leorio) showing up to free Killua showed him that his wish was reciprocated and allowed him to break one cuff - this is the start of his journey, but he still has a long ways to go. Notably, he again hesitates and closes off when Silva asks what he wants.
[ID: Three panels from HxH chapter 42. In the first, Silva asks Killua "...would you like to see [Gon]?" Killua's expression is complicated in the next panel - he's closed off and uncertain. Silva continues "Be honest, Kil... what do you want?" End ID.]
Killua will backtalk and casually break his shackles and death glare his family... but he's too fearful to voice his wants aloud.
And once again, asked by his father what he wants, he is subtly set up to fail. His wish is granted, but made conditional - "Do not betray your friends", something Killua is regrettably set up to do by virtue of the needle in his head that he, again, doesn't know about. Silva fully expects him to fail and come back home, disillusioned, believing it's his own fault due to his "nature", and trusting in Silva still as a "reasonable" figure in his life.
This condition placed on his friendship is what drives much of Killua's fear and insecurity with regards to Gon for much of the series - the idea that Killua has to earn his right to friendship, and that if he doesn't, he will lose it, one way or another.
It really makes me wish that Killua had actually gotten to hear Gon's views on friendship from the beginning of the Zoldyck Family arc, because it entirely refutes this entire philosophy. He even outright refuses to go through the Testing Gates at first, purely because he thinks the sentiment of needing to prove yourself just to be friends is completely outrageous - he only relents because there is no other way.
[ID: Two screenshots from episodes 21 and 22 of the 2011 HxH anime adaptation. Gon looks up at Illumi and firmly states "[Killua] doesn't need to earn the right to be my friend!" In the second, Gon's face is seen in profile and close up as he asks "Why would you test your friends?" End ID.]
I doubt it would've truly prevented Killua's insecurity from manifesting even if he had heard this, to be honest - his issues with usefulness are very deep-rooted in his upbringing - but still, it would've been nice for him to hear, I think.
However, that's not to say that this exact sentiment doesn't come through in their interactions.
Gon, as Killua's friend, cares about what Killua actually wants and wants to make sure Killua knows that - and that's part of what makes the Whale Island conversation between them really important.
[ID: Two images, both of the same scene from HxH chapter 64, and episode 37 of the 2011 anime. In the manga panel, Gon has turned his head to look at Killua directly, who looks shocked and taken aback, to say "I like hanging out with you." In the anime screenshot, Gon has turned his whole body to face Killua, and says "I think it's fun to be with you." End ID.]
I see a lot of people chalk this up to just Gon being Gon, but it reads to me as much more deliberate than even his usual honesty. He's turned so he's looking directly at Killua, which is a sure way to make his words come across clearly. The lead up to this is Killua, again, not knowing or being able to vocalize what he wants. He doesn't have a goal to work towards like Gon, he only knows what he doesn't want - he's a mix of envious and admiring towards Gon, who knows what he wants and simply goes for it.
But this conversation makes it clear that they have a shared wish - they both want to be friends, and they'd both like to stay together. It's not about earning, to Gon, it's only about if they both want the same thing - mutual, not conditional. There's a nice almost call-and-response type dialogue here, where Gon asserts that he likes spending time with Killua (very directly lol), then shares that Killua is the first friend his age he's had. This prompts Killua to say that Gon is his first friend ever, and that he does have fun with him. And just like that, Gon replies "Then let's stay together!" and pointedly includes Killua's desire to find a goal in their, now shared, upcoming journey.
Overhead, a shooting star appears in the sky. A mutual wish is granted.
[ID: A panel from HxH chapter 64. The night sky is full of stars. In the centre is a shooting star. End ID.]
Hm. Stars. Remember how I told you to keep that in mind, all the way back at the beginning? Their association with Tanabata, making a wish on a shooting star, etc. etc.?
Well, buckle up because this star is going to make you experience so much sadness now.
[ID: Panels from HxH chapter 286. The first is a conversation between Killua and Meleoron where Killua asserts he intends to "go down in flames with [Gon]". When Meleoron looks concerned, Killua brushes off the declaration as a joke. In the second image, Killua is turned away, his outline pale, as Meleoron thinks "Why... did you looks so sad... back there?" The last image is a cloudy night sky filled with stars. Yeah, it makes its reappearance directly after Killua has "jokingly" resolved to die with Gon if it comes down to it, after "since it means nothing to you".
I am assured, in Japanese, the word choice here is 心中 (shinjuu), the word for double suicide, where the intent is to die at the same time in the same manner in order to be reunited in the afterlife. The implication here is that Killua, having increasingly grown insecure in his place by Gon's side but unable to voice this, knowing that Gon is hurtling down the path of no return, thinks back to their conversation under the stars where they both mutually wished to stay together and, because he believes that it is no longer possible for him to help Gon, has resolved to stay by his side in death, and after it.
...holy shit, kid.
[ID: Two screenshots from the 4th ending of the 2011 anime. In the first, Gon and Killua stand back to back as meteors fall around them. In the second, they stand facing away from the audience towards a body of water under a night sky filled with stars - Gon throws a stone, which flashes in the air like a shooting star. End ID.]
And of course, here's the shooting star again in the 2011 anime's Nagareboshi Kirari ending, as well as it being the subject of the song itself and rather explicitly referencing that wish to go on a journey together, to stay together, because... Madhouse hates us. I guess. :'(
What started off as a simple wish for a friend deepened into a wish to always stay by Gon's side. This is largely good at first! Killua is able to explore and experience genuine friendship, to get a taste for freedom, and use the power of his fervent wish to protect his dear friend in order to rid himself of Illumi's needle. However, the more Killua wants, the more he traps these wishes in monologues within his own head and does not voice them aloud. Part of it is that he already feels he's been given much more than he deserves - seeing himself as a creature of darkness and Gon as light - but a greater part of the issue here is not that Killua is afraid to wish for things, but that he is afraid wishing without "compensation" will inevitably lead to horrible repercussions - namely, losing who he loves.
In order to feel worthy of staying with Gon, of earning his friendship, Killua works hard to help Gon achieve his goals, taking on the role of wish grantor, growing to do practically anything needed to support him for seemingly nothing in return - but that's not 100% true. Killua wants at least some appreciation, whether he admits it or not - it's a security thing, and it also clearly makes him happy, even if he's not great at accepting it. He insists in Chimera Ant arc that friends don't need to thank friends, but this declaration always read as very sudden to me or like a rationalization, and it's relevant to remember that this is at the peak of Gon isolating himself and self-destructing before his eyes, and Killua's own insecurity regarding his importance to him.
Killua might not mind doing things without thanks, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like to hear that Gon appreciates him. He clearly does appreciate verbal confirmation of their bond! We know this.
[ID: Two screenshots from the 2011 anime. The first is from episode 61. Killua smiles down at the ground with his hands in his pockets, the colours having gone soft and bright. The second is from episode 70 during the dodgeball match. Gon smiles determinedly in the foreground as Killua looks shocked next to him. End ID.]
Keeping all this in mind, Killua's story, or at least this part of it, couldn't have concluded in a better way than his rescue of Alluka, the wish grantor.
Now, I could probably write an entire other analysis on Alluka and Nanika alone, but for the sake of not making this any longer than I already have, I'm going to go through only a few points. Alluka is incomprehensible to her family because they make no attempt to understand her, with the exception of Killua. The only thing they do seem to understand, when explained to them, is the demands made after Nanika grants a wish - this, of course, fits neatly into their own predetermined views on "earning" and "punishment". However, beyond this, they make no attempt to understand her, and since her power is deemed dangerous and uncontrollable, she is locked away.
They are worried, first and foremost, that Alluka will bring harm to the family, and there's two ways in which this could be true:
As a function of failing to fulfill her requests, of course
Because she, just by existing, threatens the family's status quo
I stated at the beginning that Killua's desires do not align with those of the family business, and he's always apparently been more open to understanding others - he asks Alluka and Nanika questions to understand them, and treats them with respect, while his family are more so focused on subjugating anything that might be a threat. This is what Illumi tried to drill into Killua after all; never fight a superior opponent - everything is about assessments of relative strength, which leaves no room for open-mindedness or getting to know people.
Faced with a daughter who is clearly incomprehensibly powerful, and a son, the would-be inheritor of the family trade, who is showing a disturbing amount of willingness to befriend instead of retreat from her, the family made the decision to excise Alluka not just from where she could "harm" the family power-wise, but also likely to secure their control over Killua, who they then set about practically programming to not have any more wishes for himself, or at least to not be able to vocalize them without fear of loss or retribution.
The family's nickname for Killua is "Kil" or "Killu", which is deeply fascinating to me as a reader - nicknames are expressions of endearment, typically, and I actually don't doubt that here. Killua's family does love him, but their love comes with conditions. He must be molded into the perfect son, and every part of him that doesn't fit must be excised.
So: Killua's memories of Alluka are suppressed with the needle, and she is further cut from his life by dropping the "a" from his name (the Zoldyck children are named like a game of shiratori - Illumi -> Milluki -> Killua -> Alluka -> Kalluto). The nickname is also like a command or order "to kill", which is of course what they want him to do.
Saving Gon through saving Alluka and Nanika forces Killua to have to face down the last and hardest of Illumi's manipulations to shake, and that's the notion that a wish, that kindness and friendship and love, cannot be unconditional without severe repercussions - where the people he cares about get hurt because of him, something he cannot envision being forgiven for.
It's a little sad to me that after spending most of the series struggling against his family's teachings that they didn't lead to Killua betraying Gon at all, as he'd feared... but to him betraying Nanika, by sending her away.
Here is this little girl with a bloodstained past, incredibly powerful and dangerous and capable of amazing feats, treated as some evil thing by those who fear her. But she is kind at heart. Her true strength lies in healing, not killing. And she only takes commands from Killua.
Illumi thinks this is because Killua is the only one with control over her. Killua believes this is because she wants praise. They're both partially correct, but this is not the full reason Nanika does what Killua asks of her.
[ID: Two screenshots from episode 146 of the 2011 anime. In the first, Nanika smiles and says "I love Killua." In the second, Killua looks at her, stricken. End ID.]
Nanika loves him. Everyone has been trying to figure out all these complicated rules and conditions on her wish granting and why Killua is the one exception, but the answer is exceedingly simple. She loves him, and wants to do nice things for him so he can have his wishes granted. It's the only way she knows to get the love that she wants in turn.
Just like her brother, Nanika makes herself useful to earn love and appreciation from someone who accepted her when no one else did.
Even though he knows Nanika just wants to help, he still sees her presence as a danger to the person he sees as pure and innocent who must be protected. He sends her away because her "nature" is to be a threat to Alluka's safety, even if she doesn't intend to be. Killua's fear of Illumi and repercussions causes him to make a horrible mistake.
And Alluka tears into him for it.
[ID: A set of panels from HxH chapter 336. A furious Alluka glares and asks Killua if he made Nanika cry. When Killua stutters, she demands he apologize to her. End ID.]
You tell him, girl.
Oh hey, this looks a little familiar, huh?
"Apologize to Killua!" says Gon to Illumi after Illumi sends Killua away.
Nanika should not be the one punished for the actions of those trying to control her. She certainly shouldn't be forced to leave those she loves, or have to earn love from them.
And neither should Killua.
[ID: Three panels from HxH chapter 336. Alluka yells, tears in her eyes, "If you're going to protect me... you have to protect Nanika too!!" Killua looks shocked, then his eyes widen. End ID.]
It's interesting to me that this is the line that snaps Killua out of his fear enough for him to properly speak with Nanika and apologize. One party cannot receive all the protection, nor can the other only give and give limitlessly.
Killua makes it clear to Nanika when speaking with her that he will protect her, and that she doesn't need to earn affection from people by granting their wishes. He promises they will both be there for each other - Killua will praise her whenever she wants, and not just when she does something for him, but he also doesn't refuse Nanika's desire to grant his wishes. It's mutual, not conditional.
And on the heels of this "betrayal", Killua asks for what he never thought he could receive - forgiveness. And even though Nanika is clearly still very upset...
[ID: Two screenshots from episode 146. In the first, Nanika and Killua face each other, both of them teary. Nanika says "Kay." In the second, he has pulled her into a hug. Nanika is teary, her fingers gripping Killua's back tightly. End ID.]
...she doesn't even have to think about it.
I do think Killua still has a ways to go, but he is in a position right now to learn from his relationship with his sisters about balance - that love is not just selfless devotion, but also allowing those who love you to help you and make you happy too. I think that's what unconditional love is, in a way - supporting and working together with the people you love to make each other's wishes come true.
#oh my god this was supposed to be a brief write-up what happened 😭#ugh i feel like this is a bit of a mess and there's infinite other little points i could've made or elaborated on or interpreted differentl#but i'm so tired lmao#anyways tldr fuck you illumi you suck#killua is a snarky little shit but he also has so much love in his tiny body and i think we should appreciate him forever and ever#this also accidentally turned into alluka and nanika appreciation. i love them#nanika sweet angel i love you so much i hope you get all the head pats in the world#ghhh i'm so scared this doesn't make sense anymore i've been working on it for almost a week#hunter x hunter#hxh#hxh meta#killua zoldyck#call me ace detective the way i am ace. and also a detective.#storyrambles#also that one scene where gon turns to look directly at killua and tells him he has fun being with him makes me jdfhbvsdjfbvh#he's so intense about it i start laughing. no wonder killua basically just went ??!?!?!?! and like. leaned back because i think i would've#done the same lmaoooo#it's very sweet though :')#argh. gotta post. i need to stop hesitating. let's go.

how would christmas be with the zoldycks?
In one word: awful.
I feel like Christmas with them is more about showing off that they’re the perfect, sophisticated family than having fun. I’m assuming in this situation you’re probably Illumi’s love interest and have been kind of forced to attend Christmas with his family.
Dinner is boring, they only talk about assassination work between long stretches of silence. The Christmas presents are extravagant, but there’s no heart or soul put into anything. It feels cold and empty.
Now, Christmas with just you and Illumi is a little different. I assume you’d spend Christmas Eve with his family and come home miserable, feeling all of your Christmas joy sucked out of you. Because of this, Illumi hesitantly asks you what your family would do for Christmas.
“Well usually, we make dinner together, chat while we eat, set out some cookies for Santa, then spend the rest of the evening watching Christmas movies.”
He nods, gently stroking your head as you talk. “Let’s do that then.”
After your early dinner at his family’s home, which you barely ate because of your fear Milluki may have poisoned your food, the two of you spent the evening making dinner, having fun.
On Christmas Day, you invited his younger siblings over to open presents. Killua and Alluka cling to you like you were an older sister, while Kalluto and Milluki kept their distance. Kalluto lightened up after eating pancakes for breakfast and getting to open his present, a new art kit.
Illumi enjoyed seeing you interact with his siblings, the idea of you being the perfect mother to his children only cementing in his mind. That Christmas was the first one in the Zoldyck family’s history to be filled with genuine love and happiness. They all loved you dearly, appreciating your motherly love.

Yandere!Killua: Throughout the years
Request: I love how you write yandere killua! What if yandere killua met reader during the Hunter exam and reader stuck with killua and gon up until gon and killua separated? What would yandere killua do? (Sorry if this sounds weird English is not my first language)
Uh, so you survived all that... Somehow... But fret not! We will see how the story will end.
So you met during the hunter exam, and travelled along with the boys. Stuck with them through all the dangers and challenges. You´re a good friend. You know it. And they know it too, even if they don´t always show it. Gon too hot-headed, honest and protective. Killua calm and collected. His affection always a quiet thing. Easily overlooked. Gone by unnoticed.
For Killua it wasn´t love at first glance. Not even second. Or third...
He didn´t even care about you during the hunter exam. Yes, you were his age. Sure. But the other boy, that bright and cheerful one, was just so much more interesting to him.
When you follow Gon to Kukuru Mountain, Killua just looks at you.
„Oh and you! It was..., it was-“
He pauses, and with a sigh you tell him your name again. It stings a bit because he at least somewhat remembered the names of the others, but you don´t take it to heart.
Killua watches you afterwards. He remembers your name. Takes great care to use it. His mouth sometimes stumbling over the pronunciation, but most of the time, he gets it right.
Heavens Arena is hard for you. Senseless fighting with no purpose. While the boys advance quickly, you´re slow.
In his brutal way he gives you advice. Though, you can´t be quite sure, that he isn´t insulting you half of the time.
„You have to aim right there. See? And stop hesitating! Got it, you wimp!“
The relationship between the two of you is rough. Gon is quite literally the only thing holding this fragile group together.
It fits then, that at Whale Island, you learn to understand Killua better. He becomes softer as well. Less abrasive. He learns to understand you as well.
You leave that Island, this small family, maybe even this little safe harbour, that you can see yourself returning too, stronger. Your group is not on the verge of falling apart any more. You started to understand each other. Just a bit more
„Here..., for you. From Mito“
When you leave and the wind whips through the sails, you turn to grin at Killua, who is already looking at you. His smile bright, in that secretive way it curls around his mouth, and his eyes are electric.
Yorktown is great.
Until it isn´t.
You had stayed with Leorio. Your mind at least marginally better with numbers than Gon, but your skills in stealth worse than both of theirs. A group of two was safer. At least, it was supposed to be
Leorio looks at you, his question more of a statement, which you can only confirm. Even though hours passed, you still haven´t heard anything from them.
It´s difficult to stays calm, while their lives are in danger. Kurapika is the one, that blocks your every attempt at helping. One day you might thank him for staying stubborn, today you want to strangle him for it.
You crunch numbers with Zepile instead. Your fingers shaking, and that man, this stranger, looking at you with pity. You are more than tempted to wipe his pity from his face. Just because you´re young doesn´t mean, you couldn´t wipe the floor with him in your sleep.
But your skill set isn´t specialised enough to be of any help to your friends at the moment. You always had been a jack of all trades, rather than the master of one. This had served you well, when you had travelled by yourself.
When they all come back, healthy and alive, Killua cracks some awful joke at you. You nearly knock his lights out.
„What was that for!“
And that was that.
While you haven´t earned enough to have a chance at bidding on the game, you can at least get Gon his hunter license back, and have more money than you started with. You ignore it, when Zepile grins at you. Yeah, you truly have a head for numbers.
Somehow you still get into the game. Your aura is twisting differently around you now. You kind of hate it.
It takes time for you to truly understand the purpose of the game, no matter how often Killua tries it to explain it to you and Gon, who is just as confused as you are. But the longer you think about it, the clearer it becomes to you, that this is the perfect game for hunters.
And so you start to collect cards. You deal with Bisky, who is far more focused on the boys than you, only when you have to. Still you learn the basics, and you are good at them. It feels great to learn this, far better, than what you had to push for to get the chance to join this game.
The encounter with Razor, especially when compared to the lacklustre challenges of the other pirates, is utterly terrifying. You feel the ball flying towards you, know that you can´t stop it, and that it will have reached you before you could ever completely move out of it´s way.
„Watch out! Are you alright?“
It never hits you, you´re on the floor already. You simply let yourself drop as if dead. Your t-shirt is torn. You´re the first one to stand outside. Killua is closer to you, than before but you wave him away. You watch the rest of the game with held breath.
In the end, no one got too badly hurt. You bandage Killuas hand. Cursing lowly, the stupidity of both the boys. You feel bile rise in your throat, after you genuinely thank Hisoka for his help. You hate it.
It´s almost too easy to figure out a plan to contain the Bombers. Still you aren´t surprised, that Gon doesn´t listen. No plan survives first contact with him. You are slowly getting used to it.
The quiz is easy. You whisper answers into Gons ear. Not minding to forfeit your chance. This game was a playground made for him by his father. Maybe you´re a bit jealous, but you push it away.
You don´t notice how Killua looks at you. How he started to look at you in the past few months. You won´t notice for the following months either.
Kite is... strange? Gon seems to like him and that is good enough for you. The concept of the Chimera Ant on the other hand still sends shiver down your spine. You feel vindicated in your fear, when you see the leg. And even more so, when you hear the rumour that some hunters never came back from NGL while they were on a trip to search for some new species.
It doesn´t take long for you to put one and one together.
You go with them regardless. NGL it is. Giant humanoid man-eating chimera ants are the least you are expecting and you don´t get disappointed. And Kite he is... you don´t know.
You covered the retreat of the boys, making sure that nothing would jump out at Killua as he was carrying Gon. To get attacked here and now would be a disaster. Especially because Kite isn´t around any more.
You hold Killua hand, as you leave, and slowly pull him into a hug as you wait.
„I-, I couldn´t- How could I keep you safe, when I-“
Only when the car arrives you shush him, standing up to greet the Chairman. It´s with a calm you didn´t know you had, that you explain your situation. You catch the pieces thrown at you with a glare. He laughs and if you could, you would love to hit him. But you can´t. You know it.
The drive back is hard. And the next few days are even harder
When Killua isn´t hanging around Gon, he suddenly clings to you
He has never been all that affectionate, but suddenly he is. And you can´t help but worry about it
Though something changes in Killua after the loss and Gons... date
He kisses you for the first time, presses his lips to your forehead. With him being that close, you can see the traces of dried blood on his forehead
„I´m so glad I could prove it to myself to stay. I promised it! I promised.“
You just grin at him. No clue what he´s actually meaning in that moment. Why wouldn´t he stay after all. Aren´t you friends?
They find Kite. Your world breaks. And he tries to hold it together. But even Killua is unable to be in two places at the same time.
You go back to the place of horrors. And you all split up.
It´s lonely. It´s dangerous. And you hate every second of it.
You worry when they build that plan. You know it will fail. And inevitably it does.
The plaza is your battle ground. The masses easier to deal with than the highly specialised royal guards. You will not give those ants even the smallest change to backstab one of your team
You leave behind burnt earth
„Why would he-? Why would he even do this! You didn´t see how he looked at me! How he said my name!“
Killua cries again into your shoulder, and you can´t help yourself but to awkwardly pat his back. Gon is dying. No, at this point, he´s already as good as dead.
He stops suddenly, you are still watching the steady beeping of the monitor by the hospital bed. Killua is mumbling to himself, and you slowly stand up to walk away. Maybe down there, they sell chocolate. You know, he needs some
When you come back, one of Killuas prized Chocolate Robots in hand, he is brushing past you. Eyes cold and hardened. You simply push the treat into his hands, as you sit back down on the bench to watch Gon
„There is still something left. There is still something that can help him“
Your „Good Luck“ is whispered to an empty hall and unhearing ears.
He returns a day or two later, with a girl by his side. Her eyes are wide, and you can recognize Killua in the slope of her nose, in the curl of her mouth when she shyly grins at you.
You wave back at her with your own smile, then turn back to Gon.
When Killua fiddles with the door to the intensive care unit, you make your way to distract any personnel that might come your way.
In the end, you wouldn´t have needed to bother with it
The nen, that spreads over the hospital quickly and violently, steals all air from your lungs. Your bones creak under the sudden pressure, and you let out an hysteric peal of laughter when it finally stops again. You are pretty sure, you just looked death in the face. Again.
Your steps are slow to return back to the room, but you do it regardless of the fear you just felt. When you turn the corner, Killua is hugging his sister, there are tears running down her face
You let them be, and instead turn once more to Gon. A grin spreads over your face, and you laugh
„Told you, I would fix him!“
You throw your arms around Killua, and he quickly spins you around. The both of you are grinning at each other. It´s a manic feeling, that makes you pull the girl into the hug, and whisper a pained and sincere „Thank you“ into her hair, as you press a kiss upon the crown of her head
Eventually though, this leads to the moment where you have to say goodbye. Two years have passed, before you knew it. You cried. You laughed. You nearly died. You found the best friends, that exist upon this world. You lived.
Gon is the first one to go. His father won´t wait for him too long, and he has to hurry. You watch him sprint away. You try not to cry. Even though, you are sure, that this is the last time you will see him
Then you turn towards Killua, who is shuffling from side to side, while looking around. One of his arms is protectively thrown over his little sisters – Alluka – neck. You know, that he has to leave too. His older brother is after him. Or rather after Alluka
You open your arms to him, and he pulls you close. You don´t promise anything to each other. The silence to heavy to break. It´s him, that pulls away in the end, and turns to leave. He grabs Allukas hand, as he waves at you without looking back
And before you know it, he vanishes into the crowd.
Two years of your life. Gone. Just like that.
Tears are running down your face, and you sniffle quietly.
„Farewell, dear.“
Time to go, huh...
Author Notes: This is not quite what was requested but there is a reason for that. If you meet in that journey, and take it completely with him: You have to part ways with him at the end. You only play a secondary role for his development.
The Hunter Exam is the first time Killua finds a friend. He is far more fixated on Gon, than anyone else. It takes time for him to open up to you. And so he doesn´t for a long time. He bases his emotional relationships of whatever he has with Gon. So it takes a while, to apply those experiences and emotions to you as well. This is a three-way friendship. You are all friends! And all are a little bit twisted. A little bit strange. And that is okay!
The ending might hurt, but this is what I truly believe needs to happen. Gon has to leave at the end, but so do you. Killua had time to explore, that emotional avenue with two strangers, that he truly treasures at the end. Now he needs to figure out, how to be family and a protector to Alluka. Gons goal united you for so long. Killua finally finds a goal to follow. And you? You need to spread your wings as well. You need to find your own path. And I´m sure you will.
Good Luck out there! And hey, maybe this isn´t the last time you saw Killua.

➸ Images + Storyline; RoR! Loki × S/O
Characters: Loki A/N: Basically a collage of screenshots mixed with tiny scenarios I think fit the screenshots. Also, the three children are based on these three characters; Oldest - Ibara Shiozaki (MHA), Middle - Neo Alraune (Sleep Princess), Youngest - YOUNG Killua Zoldyck (Hunter x Hunter). This took a very long time to do, but it was so worth it, I think it turned out amazing! I might end up doing more of these later. Anyways, enjoy! ➥ Summary: The story of husband and wife, God of Mischief, Loki, and Goddess of Nature, Y/N. But, not all stories end happily.
∘₊✧──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──
Screenshot One »»—–► Round Two Shenanigans
🐍 Loki was sighing as the God and Human were announced by Heimdall. While it was fun to watch this tournament so far, it was sad to not have his most valuable person by his side. "Uncle Odin?" "Hm." "Do you know where exactly Y/N is?" He asked, his head slightly covered by his hands and knees, which were pulled into his chest. "She said she'd be here in a few minutes. By round three, she'll be here." 🐍 The God of Mischief let out a dramatic sigh and pulled his gaze back to Zeus and Adam's fight. This was going to be boring to watch without someone to comment with...
∘₊✧──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──
Screenshot Two »»—–► A Proud Husband of a Warrior
🐍 Heimdall's voice rang out as Loki smiled, looking down at the arena. It was finally time for the fifth round of Ragnarok, specifically, it was time for the Goddess of Nature's round. 🐍 She stared blankly at the human standing across from her, annoyance obvious as he blatantly, and pridefully, stood his ground with self-praises. "If I didn't want to amuse my husband, I would've cut your head off right now." "Aw~ You do love me!" Loki called. "Be quiet!" Huginn's voice cawed, followed by Muginn's. "Is answering my dearest wife illegal now? Guess I'll be breaking the laws a lot here!" 🐍 Loki looked back down at you, who gripped a sword tightly as you readied yourself for battle. You met his gaze one more time and winked, smirking bloodthirstily before lunging at the human challenger. "Go, Y/N!"
∘₊✧──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──
Screenshot Three »»—–► A Question of Humanity
🐍 Hits landed one by one, and your husband began to wonder who exactly this human was. So, as he understood this human was from the Greek-area, Loki went to two certain Greek Gods. The God of War, Ares, and his brother, the Messenger of the Gods. 🐍 Loki looked over at the muscle-jacked God and smiled, Ares' arms were crossed as he listened to Hermes speak the story of this warrior. "Dionysius I of Syracuse," Hermes began. "Known mainly for his actions leading to Syracuse becoming the most powerful Greek city just west of the mainland. Though, despite his amazing prowess in bettering the power of his city, Dionysius did have unfavorable military moves. These even resulted in the destruction of Hellenism. It's one of the main reasons Humanity hardly worships us Greek Deities anymore." 🐍 The three males looked down at you as you fought against the former tyrant. Anger was obvious on your face as he kept dodging or keeping your attacks away from him. "Come on, Y/N! Hit that fucker!" Ares yelled. "You've got this, Honey-Bun!"
∘₊✧──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──
Screenshot Four »»—–► Familial Support
🐍 A light hiss came from behind Loki, but, instead of freaking out or attacking whatever was making the noise, he just smiled and patted it's head. Light then appeared as a tiny boy with your hair come out of nowhere. He smiled and hugged his father's neck as he giggled. "Well, isn't this a cute family reunion?" Zeus asked from the entrance, the other two children of you and Loki standing beside him. 🐍 The oldest looked coldly at her father and nodded in hello as his second daughter smiled like him and said her welcomes. "I'm guessing you're all here to watch your mother kick some human ass?" Loki asked. "You know us far to well, father." His flower-haired daughter said. 🐍 The eldest of the girls manipulated her hair to form a couch big enough for the small, Norse family to sit upon and watch. She looked at her brother as he smiled and crawled into her lap. "Do you think Mama will win, Papa?" He asked. "Obviously, your mother is everything but easy to take down. I would know~" 🐍 A vine smacked the back of Loki's head as the others chuckled at the family's interactions. What a sweet family you had supporting you.

🐍 The family chuckled as you kicked the human away, even the three Greeks in the room did so as you whooped the behind of the mortal. You smirked and held your blade to his neck, making him slightly gasp at the pressure. "If you give up now, I will release you. If not... well... you die again." "What was you said before? Never get too cocky?" "What are you doing on about-" 🐍 The sound of slicing flesh came out as the arena went silent. Blood spurted onto the ground as you gasped and stepped back, your hand pressed against your chest as you felt something warm covering it... blood. "You-" "Bastard? Yeah. I've heard that so much, I feel nothing to it." Dionysius I smirked and launched at you again. 🐍 Meanwhile, Loki and his fellow Gods watched in shock. You had fought for nearly 20 minutes and have lasted without any attack, yet he found a weak spot and attacked without any worry. Perhaps Hermes' comment from earlier was correct... perhaps this mortal did have unfavorable military moves.

🐍 Loki calmed himself outwardly and laid both of his hands on each of his daughter's shoulders. They looked at him and cocked their eyebrows curiously as he sighed and pecked his girls' and son's foreheads and called for a servant to bring them to your room in the arena. "But, Papa! I wanted to see Mama win!" His son yelled. "Do not worry, little brother. I'm sure mother's purity will overwhelm the sin-filled human down below." His eldest voiced, lightly picked up her younger brother before walking out. 🐍 His son waved at him as he raised his hand and waved it backwards and smiled, said goodbye, and looked back at the arena, a deadly aura surrounding him. "That human better watch what his next moves are. Another loss would be detrimental to us." Zeus said. "It would also be detrimental to him." Loki said lowly. 🐍 His purple eyes followed you as you fought harder than before. You better win...

Screenshot Seven »»—–► The Death of Mother Nature
🐍 Slice after slice was swung as the battle raged on. It had been only 8 minutes since the last interruption by his children, yet he was still worried for his children if they were to witness what could happen if their mother was egged on to much. 🐍 She screamed in anger as she thoughtlessly jumped at the human, neglecting to see he lacked his weapon. But, Loki knew. "Y/N!" He yelled. 🐍 Smash. 🐍 The blade was stabbed through her chest as she screamed in pain, her once white top slowly changing to be blood-red as the blade was twisted mercilessly by the tyrannical man. 🐍 A smirk etched its way on his face as he kissed her cheek and kicked her backwards, sending her flying. She turned around and gasped as the blade dug through her entire chest. Ribs and all. 🐍 She coughed as blood came out, her eyes slowly closing as the Gods screamed for her to get up and show him who was boss. But... she was far beyond continuing. "...Y/N...?" Loki asked, his voice meek and broken-sounding. "Oh, sweet mercy." Hermes said, his mouth covered by one hand as his eyes were glued wide. "No... Y/N..." Ares said, tears popping in his eyes as you smiled at the group and closed your eyes, releasing yourself of the pain of the fight. "Y/N!" Loki screamed, making everything around his shake as his aura busted out in anger and sadness.
∘₊✧──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──
Screenshot Eight »»—–► Madness of the Mischief God
🐍 The sight of your dead body shattering into small, glass-like pieces, haunted your husband. It was all he could think about. And it was driving him beyond the brink of insanity. It was as if the King of Insanity, Dionysus, was manipulating his mind himself. 🐍 The way you smiled at him as you died just made it worse in his mind. If it wasn't for that human, you'd still be here! If it weren't for that traitor... if it weren't for that damned human-turned-God, Buddha... "Where is Buddha?" Loki asked the servant. 🐍 She shivered in fear before pointing in the direction to the right. He began walking there, his hands wrapping up in his hair as he ranted to himself. "He's gonna admit to it. And he's gonna die a second time."
∘₊✧──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──
Screenshot Nine »»—–► The Start of Good versus Evil
🐍 Loki put his cheery-personality back up as he walked into the gardens. His hands down by his hips as he chuckled to himself, his thought running wild as he began to speak to the man already there. "Well, hello there, Buddha! Funny seeing you here. I actually have one little question for you!" "That being?" "Well, when I witnessed my beloved get harmed by such a measly weapon, I remembered something that had long-passed my memory. There is one thing that can allow a human to harm a God, and it exists in your realm, am I correct? Volundr, I believe it was called. So, what do you think, Buddha?" "You know, that wasn't even close to one little question." 🐍 Loki stood up and bent, allowing his face to go up into Buddha's, his eye closed as he smiled creepily and asked a single-formed question; "Are you a traitor?" "And what if I am?" "I'll kill you." 🐍 Their auras clashed as they glared at one another, and before they knew it, some newcomers had arrived, prompting a whole new set of events to unfold. Thankfully, they ended as quickly as they started.
∘₊✧──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──── ∘₊✧ ──── ∘₊✧ ──── ✧₊∘──
Screenshot Ten »»—–► Revenge Will Be Mine
🐍 As the Seven Lucky Gods left, Buddha and his three human partners watched Loki begin his march away. But, there was still one thing on their minds; what did he want with Buddha and why did he push his wife into this battle? "I should warn you three." Loki said, stopping his trot. "Warn us with what?" Kojiro asked. "Seeing my wife die in front of me is something I can never forgive Humanity for. Just know, when I get on that arena's ground, I will not hold myself back from tearing your and your beloved mortal friends to shreds... the same way my wife had to be taken away from me." 🐍 Buddha narrowed his eyes as Kojiro and the other two watched with slightly fearful gazes. They knew how powerful these people were, and to hear such a threat was hardly easy to comprehend quickly. 🐍 Loki turned back and transformed into a bird, flapped his wings, and flew off in search of his three children. If anyone was going to tell them of this. It was him.

So I found this around, can I ask for Killua/ Gon?
♥ Send a ship and I'll give you who:
- Gives nose/forehead kisses
- Gets jealous the most
- Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive
- Takes care of on sick days
- Drags the other person out into the water on beach day
- Gives unprompted massages
- Drives/rides shotgun
- Brings the other lunch at work
- Has the better parental relationship
- Tries to start role-playing in bed
- Embarrassingly drunk dancer
- Still cries watching Titanic
- Firmly believes in couples costumes
- Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas
- Makes the other eat breakfast
- Remembers anniversaries
- Brings up having kids
Sure!
- Gives nose/forehead kisses
Mostly Gon, but once their relationship is well-established Killua does sometimes as well.
- Gets jealous the most
Killua, the jealousy king (canon)!
- Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive
I don't think Killua is able to get drunk because of his training. I could see Gon drinking a little bit socially, but not being very into it and rarely getting drunk.
- Takes care of on sick days
Both of them! But Gon is especially good at it, very attentive and devoted as a caretaker.
- Drags the other person out into the water on beach day
Gon of course!
- Gives unprompted massages
Both of them!
- Drives/rides shotgun
I don't think either would be excellent drivers, but ultimately Killua would like it better and do it more often than Gon. I could definitely see him complaining about the other drivers and road raging easily like this post says, though. I think Gon would learn how to drive because it's a useful skill to have, but be pretty uninterested in cars/driving as a whole.
- Brings the other lunch at work
Gon: Brings Killua some home-made meal (nothing fancy but reasonably healthy), as well as some candy (reluctantly, but he knows it'll make Killua happy)
Killua: Brings Gon fast food/food from restaurants and snacks
- Has the better parental relationship
Obviously Gon, Killua's family situation is awful to put it mildly.
- Tries to start role-playing in bed
I think they're too smitten with each other as they are to be into role-playing. (Though they'd be adventurous in other ways, haha.)
- Embarrassingly drunk dancer
N/A, see above answer about alcohol.
- Still cries watching Titanic
Killua, but he tries his best to hide it.
- Firmly believes in couples costumes
Gon. Killua only ~tolerates~ it outwardly, but he actually thinks it's funny and is happy that they can do things together.
- Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas
Killua, he's from a rich family so it comes natural to him. But Gon is better at giving ridiculously thoughtful and perfect gifts regardless.
- Makes the other eat breakfast
Definitely Gon, Killua's not a morning person.
- Remembers anniversaries
Both of them, actually! I think they both have a sentimental side to them that would make them prone to celebrating anniversaries.
- Brings up having kids
I personally don't headcanon them as wanting or having kids, it doesn't fit with their lifestyle IMHO (and I also don't have any interest in parenting as a topic myself lmao).
Thanks for asking, it was fun to fill these out! I hope you enjoyed my answers.

So I saw ur post about Alluka Reader so Hanako Yashiro and Kou x Kalluto kinnie reader? <33
kalluto!reader
Anime/fandom: Tbhk
Characters: Hanako, Nene Yashiro, Kou Minamoto
Warnings: I don’t proofread, short
A/n: hope u like this nonnie!
Tbhk masterlist | Main masterlist
Hanako
The way you’re so quiet and formal is what made him immediately drawn to you when you two first met, he just had to know more, you were something he had to know more about
Later on in the relationship and even before, he loved to tease you and try to make you flustered or even catch you off guard which was definitely a challenge, but it was still fun to him
The way you’re so formal makes him so surprised every time, and when he learns about your family and how they are, the ghost is a little spooked. He’s honestly happy he can’t really meet your family after the way you described them to him.
Loves to see how you play around with paper and will ask if you can make him paper figures or if you can make a spaceship
Nene Yashiro
Was in awe when she first saw you, she thought you were so elegant and so elegant looking too. She immediately grew a crush on you just from the way you looked
At first, she was a little scared of you because every time you talked, it felt so professional that it felt scary but she later learned to not mind it and found the way you talked and walked to be very admirable
Shes honestly scared to meet your family and has only met two, Killua and Alluka who were absolute sweethearts, mainly Alluka because when she first met Killua she was met with remarks about her ankles. But she loved Alluka and they grew very close and basically became an older sister to Alluka.
Yashiro loves to watch the way you play around with paper and how precise you throw it like it’s a dart. Wouldn’t ask for you to make her something but you can definitely tell she wants to
Kou Minamoto
Was very intrigued in the way you talked and carried yourself, and immediately assumed that you were from some important clan and when he found out you were, he immediately wanted to get to know you
Although he was scared at first, that didn’t stop him. Kou is a very nice guy and didn’t rlly take your short stoic answers to heart much and just assumed that it was hard for you to talk to people and he won’t judge at all
Is honestly very terrified to meet your family and has met your dad and grandpa who’d didn’t say much to him except for a formal greeting. Has also accidentally met Illumi and almost felt like he was going to piss himself so he excused himself and ran to where you were very quickly. Thinks your sister is the cutest ever and wants her to meet Tiara one day. Killua and him often get into petty arguments but it’s all fun.
Will ask if you can teach him how to throw paper like darts but will fail miserably

PROPAGANDA
Vriska Serket
vriska
"Vriscourse"
this is her tournament
She fits all four categories. Also it's Vriska
people have been arguing about whether shes pure evil or an innocent baby for like 14 years straight. nobody can fathom that shes NEITHER. like yes she is a product of her environment and the reason she killed all those people was because her spider mother was forcing her to and also due to her position in society she was encouraged to act that way and was literally a 13 yr old child just doing what was expected of her by the world around her so it isnt her fault for being in the role she was raised to be in when she didnt know there was any other option. that being said shes also just kind of a dick and put stairs in a paralysed guys house even though she knew that was a cruel thing to do cus she thought it was funny. like shes a child thats a product of her environment and she did a lot of awful things but a lot of it can be explained by the fact that she had a neglectful literal giant spider as a mother and that she was also being manipulated by an omniscient cue ball god to hurt her friends. but that doesnt EXCUSE how she acted and many of the things she did were just cruel and unnecessary like how she treated tavros. so in conclusion she is NOT an evil irredeemable bitch because she’s literally a preteen when she does all of the bad stuff + when she was messaging john she finally was away from alternian society and could finally reflect on how killing made her feel and how she realised she didnt enjoy doing it even though it was what was expected of her. HOWEVER she also isnt a sweet angel because it doesnt EXCUSE her actions it just explains them, she still did cruel shit and hurt people and acted selfishly etc… putting vriska in a box is a huge disservice to her as a character because shes like one of the most important characters in the story because of the way she’s constantly trying to steal the spotlight and insert herself into the story etc but instead of people doing any kind of interesting analysis on one of the most complex characters in the story they instead argue for a decade and a half about whether or not she did anything wrong… which goes against the whole point of her role in the story
c'mon. it's vriska.
Gon Freecss
It's ALWAYS the beef between people saying he's actually a monster and the ones saying "he's just a kid and he never did anything wrong in his entire life". The first ones won't accept the fact that Gon is kind with his loved ones. That he's hurt and did bad things when he was hurt. That he cares for his friends. That he is naive and really acts as a child. That the monster he is inside isn't ALL that he is – only a part of what he is. That a big part of how he acts was caused by the fact all of the adults in his life never saw the red flags and pushed him to keep acting like that because "haha quirky kid". The second ones won't accept the fact that Gon is selfish – it's literally said multiple times in the canon that he is but you know, selfish is an "actually bad flaw that only bad people have so he can't be". They won't accept the fact that his naivety is the thing that makes him morally grey because he can't tell the difference between good or bad. That he doesn't really care for anyone except him and his friends / family. That he was literally called a monster, canonically. That he would destroy the world and then himself with no hesitation because he's hurt. That him being young is, yes, a point, but that doesn't mean he's "just a little angel uwu". That's simply NOT how his character is written. The worst problem I think, is that none of these people seems to acknowledge the fact Gon is supposed to represent the yin part of yin and yang (while his best friend, Killua, represents the yang). Gon is supposed to be "in light there is darkness". How the light can actually be monstruous, maybe more than darkness, but it is still light. While Killua is supposed to be "in darkness there is light" and how darkness can be pure, maybe more than light, but it's still darkness – they seem to get the yang part more for some reasons ? The yin and yang analogy is my favorite trope ever and it's so sad to see this fandom watering it down because they won't accept the fact Gon is morally grey.

Love on opposite sides
Sorry this is my first fic please give feedback
Warning yanderes and non-consenting touching assault themes.
POV. Kurapika
It all started in the hunter exam
I had meet leorio, gon, Killua and Her
Y/n
She is the last kurta female.
I thought I was the last one imagine to my joy to find out that I was not alone. But I was horrified to find her in a awful place like the hunter exam she could get hurt, people could find she a kurta and take her away or worse the spiders could find her I can’t let them take her away . I Won’t let it happen
POV y/n
I have a bad feeling about this I thought as I walked back to the hide out I’m currently working with the Phantom troupe they are my family always have been always will be unlike those pretentious pricks the kurta who killed my parents for being enemies do to my father being an outside and an enemy of the clan they killed both my parents before abandoning me in meteor city I’ve been raised by the denizens of the place. The troupe recently sent me to go to the hunter exams I passed of course but that creep Hisoka and his needle headed whore were there. Don’t get my started no that blond creep he kept staring at me it was uncomfortable during the first phase he had no intrest in me. That changed in the second phase he started getting to close to me and started touching me muttering I couldn’t hear well with the other participants talking
Later at the end of the exam he kept following me. Im not worried that if he knows that I’m with the troupe I escaped him an hour ago. Took me a while but I used zetsu to get away.
Nobody’s pov
Little did the H/c know she was being followed when she made it to the hotel. As y/n made it to her room she ordered service since she was so tired. A few moments later a maid came with f/f and f/d.
Y/n pov
I looked at the maid and said “Thank you”. She stared at me for a few moment before she said “ Your welcome”. I felt tense but shrugged it off and ate dinner. I felt extra tired and went to bed. I thought I heard the door lock but it’s probably the maid leaving. I changed into my nightwear did all my rituals before calling the troupe and informed them that up I would be back soon before going to bed.
POV kurapika
She is safe at the hotel for now right now she’s asleep don’t worry I drugged her so she would not wake up. As I looked through her things I found a burner phone and some odd weapons… I also found some of her lingerie I took that and the phone with me. I sat down on the bed next to her stroking her curves. I moved my hand to stroke her face and then I stole a kiss and mutter to the sleeping beauty “ Soon we will be a clan again”. I must worry about the spiders first. But Hisoka says he wants to “meet with me” I wonder what that weirdo wants… to be continued

✵ The Mother ✵
✵ The Thoughts ✵
[Kalluto & Kikyo, before the mission in Yorknew]
Word count: 1,060
✵✵✵
The scissors blade sliced through the paper with a quiet snip. Another set of little pieces fell on the desk, each perfectly even. The small, agile hands gathered them and carefully hid in the slits of the long sleeves.
Kalluto looked in the mirror, ensuring his hairstyle kept the intact shape and smoothed nonexistent wrinkles on his obi decorated with a geometrical pattern, matching the one on the bottom of his furisode. All preparations were done, and he was ready to go on a mission; technically not his own, as he only assisted his older brother, yet he wanted to polish everything all the same. In a long time he didn't leave his home and he couldn't hide from himself the anticipation of seeing the outside world again.
Obviously, he loved his home and his family. There was no doubt about it, and no reason for him to want to leave. But lately, sometimes, just sometimes, he found it difficult to breathe.
Everything changed when Killua ran away. His abrupt and impudent breaking the rules left everyone distressed. Outwardly, the Zoldycks still worked flawlessly like the harmonized organism, yet the home atmosphere drowned in tension. The wound seemed to heal for the moment, but then these people came and aggravated it once again. They called themselves 'Killua's friends', invaded their property and took him away, ruining the family peace. The butlers crept in foreboding, Illumi began to disappear even without missions, Mother cried more often. And the Thoughts — the ones Kalluto so desperately tried to quell or at least seal somewhere deep inside him; the ones that made him glad all Illumi's attention was always dedicated to the heir, so these awful taints on his mind could slip unnoticed — now they got excruciatingly harder to bear. In this situation, he should especially increase his efforts to be a good child to ease Mother's pain at least a little, but everything he did seemed to make the matter worse.
If only Killua was here.
He couldn't tell what he sensed first — the stately aura, the flowery scent of perfumes or a click of the heel. He quickly neatened already perfectly adjusted clothes and bowed to greet his Mother, coming into his room.
Maybe at heart he actually wanted to leave home, even briefly, but he definitely didn't want to leave Her. Recent disarray visibly worsened Her state and agitated Her already fragile emotions. He feared She could have a breakdown at any time, and he desperately didn't want it to happen. Even though going on missions was his official responsibility, the one much more important for him was to ensure Mother's peace of mind. He always tried to be near Her, as Her companion, support, confidant. Making sure no one, and especially himself, would do anything what could upset Her, and if She was screaming or crying even then, do everything to distract Her, talk about art, about nature, about assassinations.
He was also painfully aware he was being irrational. The outbursts, no matter how terrifying, always passed without the repercussions, and She regained serenity as if they were just Kalluto's delusion. Moreover, She was surrounded by skilled butlers who knew how to comfort Her. There was nothing in which he would be irreplaceable.
"Oh, I see you are ready. Very well." The praise felt warm in his chest. "You really remind me of Illumi, dear, you've matured so fast! When you come back, I will have to implement more trainings he underwent into your routine, and soon enough, you will be just like him!" While She chattered, this warmth was slowly succumbing to the cold stinging.
"Yes, Mother," he said habitually, not sure if She even needed the affirmation.
"However, I have to say, it was not necessary to take you as his assistant. This is not what is best for your current situation. If only he consulted me, I would have opted for something more quiet and clean for you." The red iris on Her visor shrunk minimally, Her voice momentarily shrill. "And quick." He understood the reprimand.
"Yes, Mother."
"I should be the one to always choose your missions, I know what you need." His heart tightened when Her tone hit the mournful string. "It is regrettable that your father pretends not to understand this. But we will work hard nonetheless and correct these little defects, right? Don't worry, dear, mama will take care of everything."
Yes, Mother, he wanted to say, but something heavy choked his throat.
"I don't want—" the Thoughts blurted weakly, taking control over him. His eyes widened, when sudden silence made him realize what he had done. He was insubordinate and he just saddened Her again. Maybe he should leave home after all.
Silk taffeta rustled when She came closer and fondly caressed his cheek, the pressure of Her fingers painful against his skin.
"Kalluto, is everything okay?" Her voice needled him with guilt.
"Yes, Mother," he said with difficulty, through the mouth stitched by Her presence. "I'm sorry."
He shouldn't forget.
He might still not be the completely finished product, but the course was set. His path was decided in advance, the role that was assigned to him from birth and the sole reason he was created — to serve the head of the family, first his father, then Killua, then Killua's child if he would live long enough to see them. The desire to change was not only unnecessary, but could be harmful.
Unconsciously, his fists clenched.
"I have no doubt that you will do well, dear, just remember to look after each other." She returned to Her previous tone as if nothing had happened, and began adjusting the collar of his kimono and evening his musubi. "You will be a good helper for your big brother whenever he needs you, won't you?"
"Yes, Mother." He couldn't look Her in the face.
With the last stroke on the cheek, She left him, standing in the middle of his room. And he stood, maybe for hours or seconds, his head uncomfortably heavy, yet deprived of any thought. His mind disobeyed again. He just had to concentrate on steady breathing, inhale through nose, hold, exhale through mouth, hold, and on executing the mission. Still with splinters of hollowness in his head, he glanced at the mirror and, straightening up, went out into the corridor.
✵✵✵

What makes you dislike kurapika as a person and a character?
The character I think I explained in the previous ask. Their backstory is extremely by the numbers but also done is a very shallow way. And then they've been going into a pretty predictable direction, it's all about their revenge and they are consumed by it blah blah. But omg now there's a little baby so maybe Kurapika will grow... Out of the main 4, Kurapika's story barely, if at all, deviates from the blueprint. And that's a really disappointing thing for HxH specifically. In any other manga Kurapika wouldn't probably stick out like a sore thumb.
As a person... How do I explain this?
Killua calls Gon stupid repeatedly, he can be mean and abrasive. He can be disrespectful to people, he's not a great person. But with Gon you never feel that he doesn't respect Gon, that he doesn't admire Gon. Not with everyone, but with the people he cares about (that's a very low number btw) Killua never crosses the line into being condescending even if he teases and is rude at times.
Kurapika doesn't toe this line with Leorio. Like it feels very clearly Kurapika doesn't see Leorio as their peer. After they learn Leorio's backstory the benevolently give him a pass. There's such a difference in the way Kuarapika interacts with Gon and later with Killua who they see as strong and as assets and how they talk to Leorio.
And I know in the fandom people think it's cute. I know that people think that Kurapika is like that but deep down inside they actually... That it's about the contrasts...
Personally I despise this kind of dynamic, especially when it's a ship dynamic. It comes from my and my family's history of abuse. The deep down inside doesn't matter, not to the people on the receiving end of it. Because yes, you can delude yourself that the deep down inside exists but you never know, you don't live in that person's head. and if a relationship is built on believing in the deep down inside it's just fucking horrible. And Kurapika doesn't show enough of the supposed deep down inside for me to believe in it.
And even if Kurapika actually deep down inside believes they truly like their friends, they truly care for them, even for Leorio... So what. To paraphrase ATLA it only starts to count when it's on the outside.
For a relationship not to be god fucking awful both parties need to be mindful of each other's needs. Of course these needs will never be exactly the same and complimentary. Sometimes you can have a decent enough relationship and don't meet that many of each other's needs but with a mutual understanding that it's impossible and kinda working around it. Kurapika doesn't give a single shit about anyone else's needs in the relationships they have with others. All those relationships exist because others try to uphold them. It's clear that they have need for this friendship, for interactions with Kurapika who doesn't do a single fucking thing to facilitate them.
As to an argument that they don't want the people they love to get hurt... By assuming other person's needs and acting solely on those assumptions you're guaranteed to hurt others. It's also extremely convenient and selfish.
And everyone is understanding of them, everyone goes out of their fucking way because Kurapika has a tragic backstory and is consumed by their rage...
It's extremely evident when Kurapika doesn't even pick up their fucking phone when Gon's dying. The friends are there to fight for their attention despite them making it hard for them. If they care they will fucking jump through all the hoops and try as long as they have to, right? Isn't that tru friendship TM.
What's going on in those friends' lives? Irrelevant. If they can't be the audience to Kurapika's internal turmoil fuck them, honestly.
These are of course my personal subjective feelings about Kurapika and I know this isn't a popular view of them in the fandom. Also I have nothing against people who love Kurapika.
