Anyone here a killi person involved in killi clubs?
I need access to an article that's locked behind a membership to Killi-Data. I'm hoping to find someone that already has access so I don't have to join.
Here's the one I need:
Huber, J. H. 2019 (31 Aug.) A nomenclatural and systematic analysis of livebearing Cyprinodontiformes (Acanthopterygii: Anablepsinae, Goodeinae, Poeciliidae). Killi-Data Series 2019: 4-155.
[Link]
(All I actually need is the bit on the Poeciliidae.)
I am pretty sure it won't have any new information that I need for my science, but I need to confirm because it's listed on Catalog of Fishes as a relevant citation for taxonomy in one of my study species.

Hello, I'm Kariman Dohan. I am writing this letter to you feeling a state of sadness and grief, after the war on Gaza completely destroyed our lives. VA Native Fish Hunting 27 (and 28)
Tumblr media
This update covers a couple of trips so I apologize in advance for length! But I found some very cool finds and can't help but share.
My goal for this trip was to find some Sheepshead Minnows for my 29 gallon tank that I wanted to repurpose into a brackish tank. I thought it would be really cool to add in some local brackish green algae, some brackish fish and shrimps, and add in some local drift wood and rockwork.
I went to this location without my phone because I planned on going waist deep in water. I caught a fair number of shrimps (yay!) and no algae or Sheepshead Minnows (boo!). Funny enough, my traps only caught a single fish - and not one I expected.
Tumblr media
The only fish I was able to find was a single Rainwater Killifish (Lucania parva). This was SO COOL and SO WEIRD because I've caught maybe a hundred fish in traps in this location and never once caught this species. My tank is perfect for him so I snatched him up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not a live fish find - but this Atlantic Crab shell was massive and I couldn't resist picking it up.
So I decided to maximize my chances of finding more Rainwater Killies, I would place some traps overnight and attempt to check them in the morning. Multiple drives aren't my fave but I wanted to try.
Tumblr media
Before checking the traps the next day, I did some shark tooth hunting because, well, there are shark teeth to be found. I got a couple of fine ones (pictures at bottom) but also managed to catch this lil Squareback Marsh Crab. I have a soft spot for the little Sesarmid crabs. They always look so odd.
So I checked my traps to find...
Tumblr media
Wow. A lot of fish. Maybe 30 or 40 fish between my three traps.
Tumblr media
Probably 60% of them were Mummichogs (Fundulus heteroclitus) - a fave of mine in the area. They are brackish fish which would be great in my 29, but they really need a lot more room than that. They need 55 and up to be active and healthy.
Tumblr media
Another 30% of the fish were Sheepshead Minnows (Cyprinodon variegatus) - a pug like little fish that would be perfect in the 29, but they are fighters and would no doubt beat on the Rainwater killies. So back they go. For awareness, these orange and blue dudes are males.
Tumblr media
The female Sheepshead Minnows are no slouches in the beauty department, but still possibly too mean. So back they went too.
The last 10% of fish were Mosquitofish. I sadly did not get a single Rainwater Killifish. What a bummer. Just means I will need to check other areas - maybe a kayak trip in the near future.
Tumblr media
Bonus - I got maybe 7 shark teeth in all. Nothing too exciting, these were the 3 largest. But always kind of fun to find regardless.

Things you said at the kitchen table for Mahalia & Bucky? 💙
this was such a good prompt killy thank you thank you!!! tw for a brief death mention. prompt from this list. if anyone wants to listen along, i'd throw on halloween by phoebe bridgers.
“Where were you?” she asks from the table as he enters the kitchen.
He turns over his shoulder as he pours a glass of water so he can look at her in the warm light of the overhead lamp, all tucked into her Wayne State sweater, a few dark curls escaping from her headscarf and onto her forehead. Lucky guy, he is.
“Sal’s,” he says. “Donaldson said he was paying if the Yankees pulled through, so…”
She nods hurriedly. “Of course.”
“Thought we were gonna miss last call. They scored eight in the fifth then spent the sixth walking batters, and the Tigers can’t hit for shit so there was an hour worth of foul balls.”
From the sink, he looks out into the blue night and over the fence. The sky is covered in stars, and it’s so warm that he can see the green on the trees waving in the breeze — summer has arrived, rising up from the river and soaking into everything. The grass needs mowing and the garden needs weeding but it seems cruel now to cut down things at the height of realizing they’re alive. Maybe he’ll take Mahalia to the lake this weekend, or rent a rowboat on the river and watch her look over the side and marvel at the fish. Lucky guy.
“It cleared out during the eighth once it was clear which way it was going. Every seat had a view of home plate. You would’ve liked—”
A sniff interrupts him. Turning, he catches a shine on her cheek before she wipes it away, reaches for the cane resting between her thighs, and pushes back from the table as if to leave, but she stays seated.
“Mahalia?”
“No, it’s—I’m, I’m fine.” Her gaze is fixed on the small painted vase of wildflowers at the center of the table and he can see tears pooled above her bottom lashes — bright and golden from the glow overhead. A hand rests on the wood, flexing nervously.
His glass clatters into the sink and she jumps, tears running down her cheeks and darkening the cotton where they land. She gasps, surprised at herself, and swipes at her face with another sniff as he comes to a knee on the tile in front of her.
“Mahalia… hey, hey, hey.” He leans as she does, to the right, to the left, but she won’t meet his eyes, instead fussing at his collar and his hair with trembling hands.
“The radio,” she starts, “the radio said there was a fight. A man was killed.”
Resting her hands from his shirt, he takes them in his own and pushes his thumbs back and forth over her knuckles as she shakily exhales. “A fight?”
“After the game. They said a—a Yankees fan was drunk, they said they—they beat him to death.” Her voice cracks and the sound washes over him cold and stinging, like walking in October snow.
He kisses her knuckles and counts them, all ten, in his head. They’d left halfway through the ninth is what he hadn’t told her yet, worried about last call but the women at home most of all — Chip wanted to tuck in his girls one last time before sending them off to camp tomorrow and John was hoping Mahalia was still up so he could kiss her good night and look into her eyes and see that summer was getting to her, too. He didn’t mean it like this.
“I’ll call from Sal’s next time,” he says, but he doesn’t want a next time until he knows she won’t force herself to stay awake, alone in the dark, in a chair too stiff to rest in.
“Oh, don’t do that, I just—”
He cradles her face and she finally meets his eyes with tears tangled in the corners of hers. “They’re gonna have to do more than kill me, you know that?”
Her laugh is watery but real and the bubble of guilt in his chest pops as she pecks him on the lips and presses her forehead to his. It’s warm again, summer seeping through the tile below and rising to meet them. “How ‘bout the river tomorrow, you and me? You can see your fish.”
“You lie, John Egan,” she declares. “Those fish are nasty and smelly.”
She’s smiling all the same as she rises and handles her cane to her side, starting down the hall to their room. “But yes,” she calls over her shoulder, “we can go to the river.”

Childhood Crush
Chapter 8: Cast Iron
Killer x gn!reader
word count: 2.5k
next
Once your brother was gone, you sighed. “It’s like working with a bunch of toddlers, I swear.” You turned back to your work, making some notes about what you needed to get done for the rest of the day. Ugh, you were having a hard time focusing. Maybe you needed to grab a snack.
There was a knock on the doorframe and you jumped.
“Y/n? Sorry, didn’t mean to startle you.”
You turned, seeing Killer standing there. “It’s fi-” Your words cut off as you realized Killer’s helmet in his hands and he was sporting a nasty head wound.
“Oh, Killi,” you grumbled. “What the fuck.” You pinched the bridge of your nose before pulling out a chair. You pointed at it. “Sit.” He immediately obeyed, sitting in the chair just as you asked, setting his helmet on the desk next to it.
“What happened?” You didn’t bother looking over as you fished around for your things.
“Uh, sparring.”
You stopped, looking at him. “Sparring.” You repeated, a tinge of disbelief in your words, but you didn’t protest. Now that you had a closer look at it, you were pretty sure it just looked worse than it was.
You walked over to him, standing in between his legs, like you had done a couple times before, moving his hair out of the way to get better access. “You know, you’ll end up with brain damage if you keep getting your head hurt like this.”
You let out a sharp sigh of frustration. All his fucking hair was irritating you. You ripped your own hair clip out - your hair had gotten a little long because you didn't exactly have time to get it cut. And you didn’t trust anyone on the ship to do it. You let your own hair tumble as you pinned Killer’s out of the way. “That’s better,” you mumbled. He seemed to shift in the chair as he watched you for a moment, his face turning red. An infection? A fever? You’d check in a moment.
Then you realized something.
“Killer…” There was a sign of irritation in your voice. You noticed that this was an older wound that hadn’t been tended to and it reopened.
With his lack of answer, you stepped back, putting your hands on your hips, staring at him. He was avoiding eye contact with you.
“Care to explain?”
“Explain what?”
“I sweat to fuck I will end you.” You glared at him. “How old is it?”
“A few days?”
“A few-” You guffawed. “Are you fucking joking? I’m going to beat the shit out of you, I swear. Why didn’t you come to me?” You stepped back towards him, beginning to clean up the wound.
“You were busy…”
You pulled back again to stare at him, but he was avoiding your gaze once more. You put your fingers under his chin and forced him to look at you. “Killer,” you said. He looked startled, staring at you with wide eyes. “I always have time for you, for one. For two, I’m the ship's doctor, this is literally my job.” You let him go, moving back to cleaning and patching up his wound.
You felt him squirm for a moment. “You keep moving like that, I’m going to end up stabbing you,” you mumbled with a roll of your eyes. You noticed him turning red at the corner of your eye, but didn’t say anything. You didn’t see any sign of infection, maybe it was just hot in here.
“I don’t know how you skated by with no infection,” you mumbled, rambling your own personal notes to yourself. “However, you do need a couple of stitches. Nothing too crazy though.” You could handle two stitches. Besides, it was a good arm day, so you knew it’d be fine.
He just nodded, his face red. Maybe you should check for a fever. It was flu season, after all.
As you began stitching, he hissed, his hands finding their way to your hips - as they always did - gripping you tightly. And, as always, you tried your best to bite back whatever noises threatened to escape from your mouth. You focused your hardest on the task at hand.
Luckily, or maybe it was unluckily - jury was still out on that one, it didn’t take too long for you to do what you needed to. You finished up, applying the salve as Killer’s hands removed themselves from your hips.
You almost frowned at the lack of contact, but you were able to keep a straight face.
You grabbed your hairpin out of his hair and put it back up in your own. Maybe you’d cut it later today. “Next time, swing by. It doesn’t take long. I don’t care how busy I am, alright?” You grinned at him. He just looked at you with wide eyes for a moment and you blinked.
He seemed to snap out of whatever trance he was in, taking off.
Watching him leave, you sighed. He always made your heart race no matter what he did. Ugh, you were so smitten and you hated it. How long had it been at this point? Ten years? More than that? You thought it would slowly fade away over time, but it only seemed to get worse - you were just better at hiding it.
You noticed his helmet on the desk. “Huh, he’s not usually forgetful,” you mumbled, picking it up. It was fine, you could take it to him. You notice something fall out and float to the ground. You stared at it for a moment. Was it a photograph? The paper certainly looked like it. You knelt down about to pick it up when someone else swiped it up before you. You blinked in confusion, looking up as you saw Killer.
“Uh…” He seemed to be at a loss for words.
“Was that a picture of someone?” You grinned, easily falling into the roll of teasing him. “C’mon, you can trust me~” you said in a singsong voice. “Who is it? A crush?” Just the thought of it was soul crushing for you, but this would be the best thing for you to move on, honestly.
He was your brother’s best friend - it just wasn’t in the cards for you.
“Uh…” His face was growing more and more red by the second. He took the helmet out of your hands gently, placing the photo inside and putting it back on.
“I guess you could say that,” he mumbled.
It felt like the world was crashing around you, but you didn’t let it get to you. “Who is it?” you pressed, narrowing your eyes at him. “Do I know them?”
He was quiet. An evil grin spread across his face. “Doesn’t matter if you tell me or not. I’m going to find out.” You stepped towards him and he instantly took a step back before turning high tail out of there. You just chuckled as he left, mostly to hide your own pain.
Who was it? Was it someone you knew? Someone on the ship? Someone from back home? Someone from one of the passing islands? Maybe it was Victoria. Though, he would’ve told you if that was the case. You had already known about him and your brother’s crushes on her.
Curiosity was eating away at you. Perhaps it was also because you were trying to not focus on the heartache you were currently feeling. “I’ll ask Eustass,” you mumbled to yourself, heading out of your lab.
--
When you headed to the deck, you searched for your brother. “Looking for the captain?” You looked over at Dive, nodding. “Oh, how are your teeth, by the way?” You crouched down to her level - she was much shorter than everyone else. “Let me see.”
“They’re really good! They don’t break as easily and they even filled out!” She opened them so you could examine them. You took mental notes. All the chips and such seemed to have disappeared. “Good, I’m glad to hear.” You stood back up. “Just please stop chewing on the ship, you’re going to drive the captain crazy,” you mused.
Dive just laughed, putting her hands on her hips. “Yeah, yeah. He already gave me several earfuls about it. Wire ended up making me some wooden targets I can chew up to train.” You thought for a moment. “Maybe I can talk to the captain about making some sort of contraption to fling targets and you can get them out of the air.”
Her eyes lit up. “Would you do that, really?” She seemed absolutely excited. You laughed, nodding. “Of course. Anything for you, Dive.” She cheered again, running around you.
“Oh! Captain’s up on the upper deck talking to a new recruit! Lemme know when you make that thing!” Then she scampered off, probably finding someone to harass as she usually did.
You headed to the upper deck in search for your brother and finally spotted his red hair standing out. “Tungsten!”
“Come on over here, Bigs!” Eustass didn’t even look away from the guy he was talking to or really stop his conversation. After all, he knew your voice and you were the only one who called him that.
You bounded over to him, looking at the new guy. “Bigs, this is our new recruit, Kese. Kese, this is y/n.” Honestly, hearing your brother say your name at any point was weird. It was foreign to you and he always made a face when he said it. It was weird to the both of you.
“Oh! Pleasure to meet you,” he said, smoothly. He stuck out his hand and you took it. His grip was a bit on the tighter side, but you returned the sentiment. Perhaps he was sizing you up. However, there was a glint in his eye that you didn’t like.
“I heard the captain call you ‘Bigs’. Is this a nickname everyone calls you?”
You opened your mouth to respond, but your brother cut you off. His voice was flat and stern. “No. Only I call them that.” You just laughed and nodded. “Same with tungsten. Those names are reserved for only us.” You shrugged, folding your arms.
“Anyway,” you paused, turning to your brother. “Can I talk to you for a second?”
“I’m in the middle of something.”
“It’ll take like two seconds.”
“If it’s only going to ‘take like two seconds’,” he mocked you slightly and you glared at him, “then it can wait.”
You groaned. “It’s importaaaaaant. I can’t wait.”
“Can’t you get someone else to help.”
“No, you’re the only person.”
Eustass groaned, rolling his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’re so fucking impossible sometimes, Bigs. You know that?” A shiteating grin, much akin to his, spread across your face. “I hate that grin,” he mumbled.
“You have the same one, dumbass.”
Your brother looked at the newcomer. “Give us just a moment, please?” Kese nodded, smiling. “Of course! I’m going to introduce myself to some of the others!” Then he turned, giving you a look that made your blood run cold before heading off.
The hell was that about?
“Okay. What the fuck do you want?”
“So, Killi was in my lab just now-”
“Oh, he finally got that injury patched up?”
You stopped, staring at him, your mouth agap. “You fucking knew?”
“Well, yeah. It’s the captain’s job to know about everything that happens on the ship.”
You swatted him in the arm and he cursed at you. “The fuck was that for?”
“Why the fuck didn’t you tell me! Or make him come see me!”
“Not my job to baby him.” You groaned, pinching the bridge of your nose. Okay, okay. This was a whole different can of worms that you didn’t want to deal with right now. You sighed. “Okay, whatever. We’re moving on. Anyway.”
“Who does Killer have a crush on?” Ripping off the band-aid. Eustass and you always dealt with things head on for the most part. Bluntness was how it worked.
His eyes widened in surprise and he seemed to choke on nothing. “Huh?”  He looked at you. “Crush? I don’t…huh?” You narrowed your eyes. Wow, that wasn’t suspicious at all.
“You heard me, obviously. A picture fell out of his helmet, but he snatched it up before I could see it. I did weasel out enough information to confirm it was someone he had a crush on.” You shrugged, folding your arms. “And you clearly know who it is. So spill.”
Eustass stared at you for a long moment, seemingly battling whatever inner monologue he was having with himself. “Well…did he say that? Or did you assume it and he went along with it?”
You opened your mouth, then closed it. You pursed your lips together, avoiding eye contact.
Your brother sneered at you, smirking. “As I fuckin’ thought. You know how awkward he can be sometimes. It’s probably nothing.” You knew Killer and Eustass long enough to know that that was a load of horseshit and you weren’t falling for it.
“You fucking liar.”
If looks could kill, you’d be dead right now. “The fuck you say?”
“You fuckin’ heard me!”
“I’m not a liar!”
“Are too!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
You suddenly felt yourself being lifted and tossed over a shoulder like a sack of potatoes. “Speak of the devil,” you grumbled. “What?”
“Killer! Fucking dammit!” You squirmed for a moment before going limp. You knew you wouldn’t be able to get out of his grip. You just heard your brother cackling. “I’m going to go finish my conversation with the new guy since ours is clearly over.” You crushed at him, thrashing on Killer’s shoulder.
You fell limp again with a groan as you felt Killer carrying you away from your brother. “Don’t forget! I’m making cabbage rolls tonight!” you called from your spot on the shoulder. You heard some other crewmates cheer in response.
You watched as your brother’s face lit up. “Oh, fuck yeah!”
After putting some distance between you and your brother, Killer set you down. “What was the argument about this time?”
“You,” you said, dusting yourself off. Even with his helmet, you could tell his expressions.
“I was trying to get answers from him about the picture when you didn’t give me any. He tried to tell me it wasn’t a crush, but I call bullshit and called him a liar and then it escalated.” You shrugged, standing back up straight, looking at Killer pointedly.
“I will find out who it is, Killer.” You poked him in the chest and he stepped back. “You can’t keep this from me forever and that’s a promise.”
You stepped back, smiling and putting your hands on your hips. “Now. Let’s go make some dinner!”

Man, if you're disabled and have to spend a lot of time in bed (and have the resources to care for it), get a fish tank.
I've got a little unheated 5 gal at the head of my bed with some yellow shrimp and chilli rasbora (and a stowaway blue fin killi) and I can just watch it for hours when I can't do anything else.
If you keep a large cup close by and remove/add some water when you can, upkeep isn't too hard, especially if you plant heavily.
You can even do a handful of shrimp in a 3 gal vase
It's such a small thing, but it's improved my mental health tremendously while I've got all those pesky physdis to deal with.

One of the downsides of having a heavily planted aquarium is not seeing a fish for a few days and having no idea if it's just hanging in the plants or dead. And you can't easily look for it because ripping up all the plants would destroy the tank and thus isn't really an option.
Case in point: I was very sure one of my female killis was gone, only to have her pop up today after being MIA for like... a week. Where had she been? What was she doing? No one knows.

so this is Delmar(means of the sea).
his lore:
he was an elf that lives by the sea with his people.
one day an army of Orcs attacked his city, destroying it forever and killied everyone, including him. he was shot by an arrow when he was fishing (not knowing about the sudden attack).
Ulmo felt Delmar body when he fell in the sea. when Ulmo arrived to investigate, he was too late. enraged by what happened, he wanted to help but didn't not know how, Valars can't interfere.
suddenly something came up to his mind, his hand immediately pulled Delmar from the water. he filt his fäe was still there but barely.
slowly, he lifted his hand that was holding Delmar body. gently he breathed on the elf, making him breath his air then lowered him in the water.
after few minutes, a loud scream left Delmar body as his body slowly changed, his skin, face and structure, even his insides changed.
Ulmo: arise my child, welcome to your new life. you are now my warrior that will do as I command. you will be my eyes and ears on the sea and land, punishing every evil soul.
The poor elf was terrified, he was dying but somehow returned?.*what is happening*,*what is lord Ulmo saying*, he thought. his mind was going wild. slowly, he lost his conscious, letting his body descend to the sea....
sooo, any thoughts:)?.

“But you don't rule a thing, 'cause baby, you're a squid!”
“You lied right to my face, and messed up my head!”
“And ain't that just the way with men?”
“Sisters, come together now and take him down!”

Blood & Thunder
Rating: T Pairing: Hvitserk x OFC Warnings: Slight angst, mild mentions of blood and violence. Word count: ~1400
Summary: Since arriving in the Golden Land, Hvitserk has felt he is missing his purpose in life. That is until his meets a young woman from the Mi’kmaq tribe who reignites his sense of adventure.
Author's note: Happy birthday @captainkilly // @underragingwaves! This is my gift to you. I hope you enjoy it. This is part of my wider Salt of the Earth and Sea series, but can be read as a standalone. A while ago someone commented saying it would be nice if Hvitserk was given his own love interest in the Golden Land. Knowing how lazy I am when it comes to writing fics off my own steam, I set myself the deadline of Killy's birthday to write this, so I could gift it to her.
It has been three months since Hvitserk was reunited with his elder brother, Ubbe. Three months of becoming accustomed to life in a new land. Three months of settling into an uneventful life of farmsteading. It is peaceful and it is quiet. Why is it always so quiet?
Hvitserk longs for adventure, but most of all he longs for someone to share it with. He looks upon Ubbe and his flame-haired lover, Casja and covets what they have. He has not been with anyone since losing Thora, but now he longs for companionship.
Hvitserk finds himself drawn to the neighbouring Skraeling tribe, soon learning that they refer to themselves as Mi’kmaq. They hunt with spears and arrows, use every part of their kill and roam for miles on horseback. While there are plenty of similarities between his people and theirs, it is their differences that intrigue him most. It slakes a thirst for the unknown that is part of the very fabric of Hvitserk’s soul.
One young woman in particular captures his attention; Avaldidida. Hvitserk has never heard a name so beautiful. Her umber eyes turn to the colour of honey in the sunlight, her long dark hair falls loose around the bronzed skin of her shoulders, with intricate braids adorned with beads and feathers. She must surely be a goddess, Hvitserk thinks.
Upon their first meeting Avaldidida comments on the fact that Hvitserk’s eyes aren’t blue like the others’. Blue eyes mean danger. Completely misreading her comment, Hvitserk leans in to kiss her and laughs in shock when she forces him backwards, the flat of her palm to his forehead.
Despite this, Avaldidida and Hvitserk become firm friends. Seeing her quickly becomes the highlight of every day for him. They hunt together on horseback, skin the pelts from their kills and spear fish on days when the weather allows it. She chuckles at how bad his aim is with a bow and arrow while riding and when he is able to smile along with her, Hvitserk knows his heart is no longer his own.
When Avaldidida does not show up that day for the ride they had planned, Hvitserk feels that something must be wrong. He travels on horseback to the nearby Mi’kmaq settlement to seek Avaldidida out and is immediately concerned by the scene that greets him.
A woman wails in anguish over the prone form of a young man. A bloody wound oozes in his chest, red and grisly. The settlement is a clamour of activity, as people rush to grab weapons and mount horses.
“You have to go!” Avaldidida says urgently to Hvitserk as she rushes over to him.
“What has happened?” Hvitserk asks, dismounting and placing a gentle hand on Avaldidida’s shoulder.
“There are people…like you.” She replies hesitantly. “They attacked a group that were fishing. They have killed Peminuit. We must defend ourselves. You cannot be here.”
“I’m helping you.” Hvitserk says without hesitation.
Avaldidida’s eyes go wide. She studies Hvitserk’s face to see if he is being serious.
"You would help us, Hvitserk?" Avaldidida asks, a hint of disbelief to her tone. "You'd be risking your life."
"And I'd do it gladly for you, Ava." He responds with a proud smile.
Avaldidida averts her eyes, a small smile playing upon her lips. Ava. She likes that.
“Do you have a weapon?” She asks.
Hvitserk unclips the axe from his belt, holding it out for her to inspect.
“That will not be enough.” Avaldidida states.
“Oh, trust me.” Hvitserk grins. “It will be.”
Hvitserk falls back into the throes of battle like it is the arms of an old lover. His heart hammers in his chest, he revels in the thrill of it all. Howling like a wolf, he hacks and slashes through men who, once upon a time, he would have fought alongside, not against.
He wears the blood on his face as proudly as the wolfish grin that never falters. It matters not that he is attacking and killing what are potentially fellow Northmen. He has a new purpose to fight for now; her.
When the last of their opponents have fled, their numbers cut back to too few to stand a chance, Hvtiserk screams triumphantly. His eyes search for Avaldidida and finds her sheathing the last of her arrows.
He strides over to her, pulling her into a tight hug, a wide smile still plastered to his face.
“We did it, Ava!”
His smile finally fades when she pushes him roughly backwards. He stumbles a little, confusion taking hold of him.
Avaldidida’s body language is rigid and tense, her facial expression is cold. Hvitserk feels he can see a look of slight disappointment in her eyes. It’s only when he looks around he notices the rest of the Mi’kmaq tribe are mirroring her body language, regarding him cautiously.
“Thank you for your help.” She says flatly, before turning to walk away.
“Wait!” He rushes to block her path. Hvitserk looks at her, his brow furrowed, his eyes filled with sadness. "I don't understand what I did wrong."
Avaldidida sighs, bowing her head for a moment before looking up at him, a frown distorting her delicate facial features. “You take pleasure in killing, Hvitserk. There is no honour in taking another person’s life. We do it only to protect ourselves, not for enjoyment.”
Hvitserk stares at her, his mouth agape, too dumbfounded to say anything.
“Go back to your brother, Hvitserk.”, Avaldidida says, a tinge of sorrow in her voice. “You are too dangerous to be around my people.”
Hvitserk feels as though his world has imploded. No one has ever turned their back on him because of his prowess in battle before. He does not sleep that night, his heart aches over Avaldidida’s rejection of him.
He turns her words around in his mind; “you take pleasure in killing”. He used to. However, today he’d taken pride in defending the woman he loves and helping to defend her people. Perhaps it didn’t help that he’d never actually told her he was in love with her. But he was certainly no danger to her and he’d make her see that.
At dawn’s first light, Hvitserk is up and back on his horse. He will not wait around for Avaldidida to forgive him. He will earn it. He has never shied away from a challenge and this is one he is more than prepared to take.
Word quickly spreads throughout the Mi’kmaq as they spot Hvitserk’s approach. Avaldidida is already waiting for him when he arrives - an arrow strung in her bow and pointed directly at him.
“Leave or I will kill you.” She orders.
“If you wanted to kill me you would have by now.” Hvitserk says with a gentle smile, as he jumps down from his horse. “I’ve seen you hunt with that, you could have gotten me when I was a mile back, but you didn’t.”
She sighs, lowering her bow, holding the arrow as she releases the tension on the string. “Why are you here?”
“To give you this.” Hvitserk unclips his axe and lays it at her feet.
She says nothing, quirking an eyebrow at him questioningly.
“You are right, Ava.” He confesses with a slight shrug. “I did enjoy the battle yesterday, but only because I was fighting for you. My axe is yours, as is my heart. I don’t care if you never want to see me again after this, that is your choice, such as it is mine to fight for you.”
Her expression is unreadable as Hvitserk looks at her, although her body language seems slightly less guarded. Hvitserk takes a few steps back, having said all he wanted to say, he intends to leave.
He freezes in shock when she pushes forward, pressing her lips against his. When he doesn’t respond she pulls away, embarrassment radiating from her.
Hvitserk is quick to regain his composure, realising his mistake. He pulls her to him and kisses her hungrily, something he has yearned to do since the day he first laid eyes upon her.
She smiles as their lips finally part, their foreheads resting together. “At least you are a better kisser than you are an archer.”

15 Questions for 15 Friends
Tagged by @venort!
Are you named after anyone?
Oh this is a fun one. So, the name I picked for myself after coming out as trans comes from the character Ellie Williams, from The Last of Us. I almost named myself 'Emma', after the Japanese name for Lady Timpani from Super Paper Mario. My deadname, which I won't share for obvious reasons, comes from... I think my great grandpa? I'm not 100% sure. Something like that. And my dad almost gave me the name Jean-Luc, after Picard, y'know, Star Trek, or Jean-Claude, after Jean-Claude Killy (although I suspect this was just a failed cover story to try and convince my mom to go with Jean-Luc).
When was the last time you cried?
Not answering this one, sorry.
Do you have kids?
Not answering this one, sorry.
What sports do/have you played?
I don't, uh. I'm not. I'm not very physically active these days. In high school they rotated us constantly between soccer, softball, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and I think MAYBE football? I was terrible at all of them, y'know, vision/coordination problems and whatnot.
Do you use sarcasm?
Do I? I'm not sure. What do you think?
What is the first thing you notice about people?
Man I dunno, uh, I just think some people are neat.
What's your eye color?
My V-Tuber avatar has orange eyes. I'm not saying more than that. Eat pant.
Scary movies, or happy endings?
Both, neither, and everything in between. Movies are good. Have you seen The Boy and the Heron? You should go see The Boy and the Heron. Also Paprika. Paprika is really good. I wish Satoshi Kon had lived long enough to finish Dreaming Machine. Actually I just wish he hadn't gotten cancer at all. Fuck cancer.
Any talents?
I'm pretty good with OBS, and tech stuff in general. I enjoy streaming, and people seem to think I'm pretty good at it.
Where were you born?
Washington
What are your hobbies?
Video games, programming, VR/AR, motion capture/streaming/video editing stuff, just, techy stuff in general.
Do you have any pets?
Not at the moment, but I kept a few fish as pets as a kid, and the last place I lived had a local colony of stray cats that me and my dad would feed and look after.
How tall are you?
5'2" in real life, my V-Tuber avatar is supposed to be either 4'11" or 4'9", I'm not 100% decided yet.
Favorite subject in school?
Probably the classes where we just got to fuck around with computers. But if I had to give an actual answer, probably math or physics? If we include university, probably the classes I took on VR, UI design, and product design, or the cognitive science class I took that was about the intersection between cognitive science, society, and popular technology.
Dream job?
Honestly, anything where I'd get to apply my interests in both technology and internet media. Whether that's working on software for streaming, working as an editor or a writer at a tech YouTube channel, working at a video or livestreaming platform like Twitch or YouTube... Alternatively, maybe working on VR software or hardware? Just as long as I'm making a good income, working on something I'm passionate about, and with time to spend on my hobbies.

whats ur fav fish :3
My fave fish is the coelacanth for sure. But that's neither a native fish, nor suitable for a fish tank so that's not a fun answer! I'm gonna infodump on my fave native fishes below!
Starting with the iconic Sunfishes - so many to love! Orangespotted Sunfish are probably my favorite in Lepomis for their beauty, small size, and peaceful nature (Warmouths are second in this genus). I also love my Bluespotted Sunfish for many of the same reasons, and there's a part of my that find Fliers infinitely interesting. They look like Lepomis/Pomoxis hybrids and I love them.
The Fundulus killifishes are all fantastic. Mummichogs have been among my favorite fishes kept, but Banded, Longnose, Seminole, Marsh, Striped, and Gulf killies are all hardy, with subdued beauty.
Despite all the invasive species, we only have one native Cichlid, the Rio Grande/Texas Cichlid - a real beauty of a fish that is a typical pugnacious American cichlid and is relatively easy to place in aggressive communities.
Darters are so cool - they are so unlike many of the fish you see in stores and are behaviorally fascinating. We have SO MANY beautiful darters like Greenside and Candy darter complexes, but my vote is for Tesselated. Because I can find those locally. Fun fish for sure.
Pretty much every Pike is a solid choice - but the Esocidae family also includes Mudminnows! Described as "cigars with fins" they are supremely cool fish that are small and peaceful - their moving of all fins out of sync to stay hovering in the tank column is a treat to watch.
Similarly, every Gar is fantastic in my book, with my vote going to the Longnose Gar for its impressive range and salinity tolerance.
Our minnows are winners, hands down, with both the silvery ones and the colorful ones being awesome fish. Lots of great choices for tank keeping too. But I'm going with the Mountain Redbelly Dace here. Beautiful fish for sure!
Mosquitofish are comforting. Around here, you find them EVERYWHERE. I typically catch a few no matter where I fish. They look like Guppies without the vivid colors, but most still get some pleasant iridescence to them and in Florida you can find lovely black and white mottled variants that are just so cool.
Our native freshwater catfishes are cool but I love our saltwater catfishes. Called crucifix fishes for the shape of their skull bones, both the Gafftopsail and Hardhead Catfishes are neat social animals with a wide salinity tolerance.
The gobies are a family of winners as far as I'm concerned but the Violet Goby takes the cake for being a MEGA weirdo - this nearly two foot long fish wouldn't hurt a fly (a fry?) and so so so odd. Who wouldn't love them?
Atlantic Spadefish may not have the great juvenile coloration of their Platax relatives, but they are smarty pants fish that get big and are very active. I've seen populations in the Georgia Aquarium that are spellbinding to watch.
Hogchokers are Soles that have a terrible name but are also the most common fish in the Chesapeake Bay. I'd love to catch one someday!
I feel like I should stop here - but how do you not include our native puffers, bowfins, madtoms, damselfish, morays, salmon, sturgeon, Mollies, Pupfish, or Angelfish? We have one native tetra too! Isn't that neat?
