Day 1500: painted some of the eyes. I also pulled out almost every miniature I've painted in the last 1500 days and took a group photo! Took nearly two hours to setup and teardown. Immensely proud of the collection I've steadily built over the years

Just noticed something about AOS lore

Kharadron Overlords were born because of the necessity to fight back a Tzeench invasion... They overcame this massacre and evolved into one of the weirdest factions in the realms. They think that they defeated Tzeench and strived for a better future, but if you really think about it... The Chaos God won. He CHANGED them, drastically. He attacked a bunch of duardin miners and he turned them (indirectly) into a steampunk sky pirate type of society. The Kharadon are happy because they "won" (They survived), but Tzeench is happier because he WON (He CHANGED them forever).

An Arkanaut's guide to trading with grots

- Firstly, subclause 2.26.12 of the Kharadron Code forbids trade with active enemies of the Geldraad. While most grot clans are subject to this sanction, there is as yet ambiguity as to the status of individual, unaffiliated grots in regards to this law. Regardless, it’s recommended one employs a Codewright prior to engaging in trade.

- The concept of a unified currency is novel to the grots, and many haven’t even heard of it. Most trade through a simple barter system. While it’s possible to persuade them to trade for objects such as coins, it will only be because such objects are shiny and forged of precious metals.

- There is no set price for any commodity (grots don’t even have a word for ‘commodity’), all goods are worth what the other party are willing to pay for them in that instant. Be prepared to demonstrate the value of any goods you wish to sell, and haggle extensively.

- While not in direct contradiction to the above to points, it’s worth noting that fungi, particularly edible or hallucinogenic mushrooms, have very stable and widely-accepted values, making them the closest thing to a currency. They are, in many ways, a fungible commodity.*

- Grots have no compunctions about being deceitful as to the worth of their goods. Inspect all objects thoroughly for signs of deception.

- Grots do not have the memory, honesty, or lifespan for concepts such as investment or loans.

- If a grot believes it will be easier for them to kill you for your goods, it will do so. Equip yourself accordingly, and ideally travel with the most intimidating guards possible.

Finished my grundstok thunderers and my admiral. Blue armour finally looks good, it only took a blend of 3 different paints.

I’m always careful to avoid comparing my work to anyone else’s; we’re all our own journey and have been painting for different amounts of time. I only compare my work to past work.

With that in mind, I painted the first of the Kharadron Overlords above (from the Thundrik’s Profiteers warband) just two weeks after The Accident™️. It was one of the first Warhammer miniatures I ever painted and I was happy with it at the time. Putting it next to my latest miniature (from the Grundstok Thunderers warband) really makes me feel good about my improved skill. I definitely used less colour range and apparently massively over-glued in 2019 😅 Onwards and upwards though 😁

My "Runesmith" and Skywardens are finished.

Don't have a name for him... yet, but he's supposed to be a Brew-smith Foreman for the Aleniheim Brewery as well as Chief Alchemist/Rune-Chemist for the Grogstout Arsenal. This use of Engineering principles and Alchemy to perform Runesmithing is among the most Extreme Heresy to both the Dwarf Runesmiths and the Dwarfen Engineering Guilds, but seeing as Totengrad is out of their jurisdiction he's free to experiment as he pleases.

Baloon boys is done... now I just need the sky-ship and I can proxy the Kharadron Overlords Spearhead.

A lot has happened since that first issue, but one thing has remained eternal: the name. To celebrate 500 issues of White Dwarf, we’re releasing a celebratory new miniature of the alabaster-bearded ancestor himself, Grombrindal.

I see people saying this is a repurposed TOW model, but the Beard Bangles and a few other details are distinctly Fyreslayer, among other details that cement in the Mortal Realms (even ignoring the pile of trophies).

I feel Grombrindal is an indication of what the various Dwarves of the Mortal Realms may look like in future models.
