“Fuck Magnus” this
“Fuck Lorgar” that
“I’ll swing on Erebus the first chance I get!”
Yall don’t think to maayyybbbbeeeee share some of that vitriol with the Old Ones? Cuz like… yes, the first 3 were born somewhere during humanity’s medieval period, and yes they’re just emotions made “real”, but before the war in heaven it was kinda just… chill? Then the fucking Old Ones told the Necron’Tyr to just “Die ig lol not my problem”
I’d shoot an old one
Chaos wins because the Imperium is fascist
It suppressed the basic human desires of the soul and gives people no time or opportunity to express making them yearn for creativity and freedom and self expression
It makes its people live miserable lives of eternal war, poverty, disease, horrible living conditions and servitude yearning for release, peace, painlessness and pleasure
It leaves its people no time to be human. To engage in art, sexuality, to express themselves, have peace, pleasure and happiness. So they yearn.
It’s oppression leaves them angry and vengeful. They yearn for revenge.
It suppresses and persecuted psychers for their natural abilities who yearn to be themselves
It bans, heavily regulates and persecuted exploration of knowledge, magic, technology and science. Anti intellectualism and thoughtless dogma are praised and revered. Anyone who thinks for themselves or learns is an enemy.
The chaos gods don’t represent these desires. These are healthy human desires that everyone should have a right to. The chaos gods feed on these desires and take advantage of the people desperate for them to trick them into servitude.
An oppressed angry man will seek out a blood god
A man in pain and suffering will seek out a god who will take the pain away and make life bearable in misery
A suppressed miserable man with a miserable dull life being told he has no other purpose then to feed the war machine and be a human meatcog will seek out a pleasure god who promises to enrich his life
A man stripped of creativity and innovation, in a world of eternal stagnation and anti intellectualism yearning for change and freedom will seek out a god of change
The lesson in warhammer isn’t that pleasure, anger, change and seeking relief are bad.
The lesson is that in a fascist system where these basic human desires are repressed and humans aren’t allowed to be human they will seek these things in anything they can, leaving room for exploiters to gain power.
The “imperium of man” is fully anti-human despite claiming to be humanity embodied. It’s citizens are living in abject misery, eternal war, stripped of their identity and self expression, suppressed, only exploited for their usefulness, bodies and labor - for the end of an ever expanding empire for its own sake. A vanity project. There is no actual benefit to humanity.
Chaos gods aren’t the representatives of “pleasure” and “anger” etc, they FEED off of the desire for these things. They feed off of angry, suffering, desperate people in pain.
If the people of the imperium were happy, chaos would be powerless, because people would be happy with their lives and their yearnings and desires wouldn’t feed them or give them a way in.
The more the imperium cracks down on its people and the more fascist it gets the more the people will yearn, feeding chaos while it grows stronger and stronger.
Warhammer is screaming in your face about how overpolicing and “peace and order thru suppression” doesn’t work and backfires, from Nostramo to the imperium itself.
If the imperium wanted to stop chaos it should stop being fascist and allow people to be human and engage in and embody their humanity and human desires in a healthy way, therefore the offers of chaos wouldn’t attract people.
The same goes for the primarchs. If Fulgrim felt like he had an outlet to be himself and express himself freely he wouldn’t have felt the need to submit to slaanesh. He knew the risks but his yearning for freedom was stroger. Same for angron.
It’s so funny seeing loyalists and imperium fans react to the rise of chaos with even more fascism and limiting human expression even more, decrying basic humanity such as sexuality and art as “slaaneshi” and therefore bad - as if this will do anything but drive people to slaanesh even more.
TL;DR: Fascism is bad and conservative ideology is a fundamentally anti human worldview and always fails. If you don’t allow people to be human in a healthy way they will find an unhealthy destructive way, but you can NEVER suppress basic human rights and desires for peace, freedom, pleasure, knowledge and justice.
A regime which fears the human soul, knowledge, freedom and individuality will never be free of chaos. An Emperor who doesn’t trust humanity and even his own children with themselves will never succeed.
If you fear that knowledge, freedom, self expression, rightful justice and prioritizing happiness and pleasure will turn people against you and ruin your “plans”, you might be the problem

Okay here's the first of the Corrupted Warhammer Batboys!
It's Tim! (what a surprise!) Corrupted by Tzeentch, the chaos god of change and sorcery. (ᵕ˵ ૩ᵕ)━☆゚.*・。゚
-I wanted to make it feel like the mutations, especially the large wings, as being heavy, or awkward to work with, making him have to rely on his Bo-Staff for support.

We hear so much about the seductive nature of chaos, about how it slowly draws you in... and yet the poster children of it, the 4 daemon primarchs to the individual gods, atleast half of them straight up had no or minimum say in the matter.
Our angry boy Angron was forced into becoming one because the nails were turning his brain to salsa and the traitors needed someone besides Horus who could stand a chance against Sanguinious so Mr. Heresy could do other stuff (because of course what he would want is superceded by how he could be useful for others) and Lorgar figured making him a daemon would work(like with a concerning amount of things, he was right). Angron had no say in the matter.
Then there is Mortarion who basically was given a hostage situation, give in to grandfather Nurgle and become a daemon prince and his legion would be fine, don't and the entire legion all die a slow painful death(Nurgle, aren't you supposed to be the Nice chaos god?). That's not really a choice
Fulgrim... I admit I'm not super aware of the circumstances of his ascension or how much the whole possessing sword played a role
And then there is Magnus and Tzeench, god of lies, tricks, and deceit... who basically just kept offering (and sometimes freely giving) him power till he said yes. Like sure, Tzeench orchestrated the situation where Magnus was turned against the Emperor and would want to turn to Tzeench. But it's kinda weird that the lord of lies might have gotten his daemon prince the most legitimately

Dinovember 2023 - The Dinosaurs of Chaos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, I had an idea for the past few days, and thought about how to interpret dinosaurs influenced by the chaos gods, but with the big twist in that.. well. Chaos is merely a part of everyday life, including nature. Some blessings are more beneficial than others though...
Tyrannosaurus of Khorne: Violence for violence sake, it takes skulls and sheds blood for a god that its animal brain cannot comprehend. It prefers prey that can fight back, for the worthier the foe, the better its skull pile that marks its territory is... AND it helps with attracting mates.
Carnotaurus of Slaanesh: Gifted with even MORE speed than the regular, already speedy kind, this Carnotaurus can catch anything with both speed and tentacled maw... because it has too. It will starve in less than a day if it cannot, and a fight can quickly become a death sentence.
Therizinosaurus of Tzeentch: Born with two heads, one with eyes, and one with a mouth, and only got more and more mutations as it grew. In spite of this, it's very much a normal Therizinosaurus in behavior, and simply uses its additional limbs for its own benefit. So long as its "main" head, the one with the eye, remains intact, everything should be fine.
Ankylosaurus of Nurgle: A lumbering, slothful thing, one that relies less on armor and more the fact that it's a fungus infested, disease carrying, toxic fume spewing thing that's absolutely hazardous to anything near it... unless you're angry enough Khornate rex!

So basically:
Chaos (I bet it was Tzeentch) yeeting baby Primarchs all over the galaxy at random, picked up by the scruff Angron, Curze and Mortarion and for some reason went "hahaha, fuck you three in particular"

The God of Blood was never one to take an interest in minuscule things. He was known for more heavy things like violence, war, blood and skulls. Not sunshine and rainbows or the foul pleasures of the Slaanesh and the idiocy of Tzeentch. Nurgle was… alright, but he prefers more blood than puss and shit being thrown about the battlefield. He wants skulls and blood! Spines flying across the battlefield! To feel the heat of battle dance across his chest!
Well, until he set his sights upon you. A fine human of your species. Crafted by the hands of humanity itself. Your body fragile but strong against the aliments the chaos gods may bring upon you. Your own will hard to break against his soft whispers in your ear as he try’s to sway you into his side.
He, of course, still loves the thrill of the battle and blood, but trying to sway you also? It brings a strange, heated feeling through his torso. It… it almost confuses him. Was this Slaanesh trying to get on his nerves? Trying to present him a human figure that he has an… intrigue in? Surely it was? You don’t smell like you’re coated in Slaanesh though… You’re of mankind. Created of mankind, yet not of the Emperor…
What a strange human you are…
However, your resistance nor the Slaanesh tricks will sway him from you. He will conquer, like he always has. He was the first, therefore, he will be the first to tempt you to him by any cost. Whether it would be by soft whispers, phantom touches, hallucinations or even presenting you bloody skulls. He’s dedicated on having what he wants. He almost wonders if this is how Nurgle felt when chasing after Isha? No, Khorne doesn’t chase. He sits upon his throne and watches the chaos turn in his favor. He’s not chasing you, and he is not.
He hasn’t moved from his throne every time he’s trying to tempt you. His patience rather huge for a God of Violence. His talon-like gauntlets simply tapping on the arm of his throne with a rhythm. Feeling how the blood of mortals below empower him every moment, every second. His eyes of flame never blinking to savor the acts committed to worship him. His eternal acts of brutality never calming as he continually annoys you with his enticement.
Only when you turn to him, not falter, does he lighten up his lure. His eyes setting upon your tiny frame that suddenly appears at the foot of his throne. The tapping on the arm of his throne stopping as he observes you in the flesh.
Such a… small thing you are. So full of resistance. Your eyes… fearful of him. That expected, but he feels indifferent about it. He didn’t bring you to him to make you feel such. Though, he almost feels… pitiful for you.
Here you stand, frozen, and at the foot of a true Gods throne. Your own will breaking at just the sight of him as soon as you lost a piece of your petty resistance to him. He probably would have laughed if he wasn’t mature. Thats what the other gods do.
His figure leans over his throne to look at you more closely. The simple movement of him cause a bit of a shock as the area around him seems to go quite as if the galaxy was holding their breath. A huff of unneeded, hot breath washing over you that feels like hell just flew over you, and perhaps it did with how the monstrous being bringing forth his gauntlet and grasp you within it. The… metal? Skin? Of the God feeling cold against your own frame despite the raging fires around you.
Surprisingly, the being of murder doesn’t squish you to a pulp but rather the opposite. He sets you upon his lap: more accurately his thigh and simply just… leaves you there. Nothing more becoming of you. You’re just… there, upon one of the most feared gods in the entire universe.
Admittedly, the God himself didn’t know what he really just did himself, but it was now clear to others that you have become a trophy or perhaps… something more? It was really unclear of what he thinks of you, but you suppose this is a better fate than being a food source…
Khorne keeps you there for quite sometime thoug, eternally really. Fulfilling his and sometimes your own reasonable desires like your silly food and water consumption. Your weird little temperature balancing, (which is just all the more reason to keep you close to him to keep cool.) Yet, for a god a Violence. He doesn’t seem to… force things. Sexual or not. It like he doesn’t really have an interest in it? Which is also reasonable considering he doesn’t like Slaanesh, but he does indulge. Imagine the face on Slaanesh after they find out he does, in fact, get laid? That thought greatly amuses him. You can tell too with how… light everything around him gets. Something akin to a weight being lifted off your shoulders.
The tip of his gauntlet tap against a small skull as he thinks about you. Indulging in things he never really has never tried before, and it brings him a sense of… longing. You seemed rather… content in his presence and he was too in yours. It was strange but not in a… “bad” way. He wishes for the same thing to happen again as he looks over his area once more. Yet, he has learned about another cruel reality of the universe as his talons softly stroke the skull underneath his hand.
Tzeentch has offered him help, but he’s not sure he could trust the words of the all-knowing. He knows there are side deals to the cost of deals. Slaanesh was just a horny bitch about it, further angering him of that foul creation, and Nurgle seemed… sympathetic, in a way. He once again feels indifferent about everything.

Working on a theory about the origins of the Chaos Gods specifically in Warhammer 40k.
Slaanesh was born from the old aeldari empire; that’s a given. So you can think of Slaanesh as being uniquely aeldari, even if Slaanesh is everyone’s problem now.
Now old, old lore states that the other three Chaos Gods are born from humanity, but this has widely been disregarded and abandoned because it’s clearly a cop-out. The only specific piece of data from this bit of lore is that Nurgle was born from humans during the Black Plague.
I’m actually not 100% opposed to this. I like the idea that Nurgle is uniquely related to humans the same way Slaanesh is related to eldar. Humans, being a naturally short lived race, would produce a Chaos God of death and decay reflecting their existential fears about entropy and the nature of time.
This establishes a pattern in 40k; every species with a major warp signature produces a Chaos God, who will carry on inherent traits of their creator species long after that species has been driven to extinction. Ergo, Tzeentch and Khorne were produced by two other, far more ancient alien cultures.
The only hints we can get about these extinct species come from their Chaos Gods’ Greater Daemons. As the Chaos Gods have no real physical form, their Greater Daemons are the most direct manifestations of their power we can experience, and therefore the only way to see any of their creator species traits. In the same way we can extrapolate an eldar from a Keeper of Secrets and a human from a Great Unclean One, we should be able to extrapolate… something from a Changer of Ways and a Bloodthirster.
This actually leads me to the tzaangor.
Tumblr media
(These things. The bird people the Thousand Sons use when they don’t feel like getting their Rubric Marines dirty.)
The tzaangor’s presence in 40k is a leftover; they’re here because they’re in Warhammer Fantasy, and we need to flesh out Tzeentch’s armies, so in they go. Their explanation makes sense in Fantasy - they’re just another type of beastman. But beastmen aren’t really a thing in 40k, or at least they haven’t been for a few editions.
So that gets me thinking about the tzaangor, their similarities to Changers of Ways, and Tzeentch. I don’t think tzaangor in 40k are just some random mutants; I think they’re primitive leftovers of whatever species made Tzeentch. The similarities between the tzaangor and Changer of Ways are too obvious. (Like yes, duh; the tzaangor are derived from the Changers, but bear with me here.)
My theory is that whatever this species was, they were pioneers of the Warp itself. They harnessed it in a way not even the Old Ones had during the War in Heaven. They may even have been the creators of Warp travel, or something like it. They achieved a transcendental, almost godlike amount of power from harnessing the energy of the empyrean.
And then you know how the story goes; more power than mortal beings are meant to know blah blah blah, absolute knowledge is absolute power and absolute power corrupts absolutely yadda yadda yadda, and then the next thing you know Tzeentch has been born. And Tzeentch keeps the leftovers of his creator race around for one of a hundred different reasons; anything can be justified with Tzeentch by it being part of one of his master plans or split personalities.
What’s left now of the tzaangor are Chaos-ridden mutants hustled around by the new power in the universe; humans. They’re still surprisingly intelligent, but comparatively primitive next to their species in its prime. I like to imagine that since the species was so psychically gifted, Tzeentch’s birth wiped their intellects in an instant, like Slaanesh and the Fall of the Eldar. Just a lethal psychic shockwave that decimated billions, Watchmen squid style. It’s taken millennia for the tzaangor to redevelop their current level of intellect, and they live in fear with the constant knowledge that Tzeentch can take it away again at any time.
Now as for Khorne! …I got nothing. I think, by his nature as the god of bloodshed and murder, Khorne completely wiped out his progenitor species. He did not quit halfway through like the other Chaos Gods. The only thing I can assume about them is that, as Khorne is the oldest Chaos God, they were ancient. Maybe even older than the Old Ones and Necrons. If the War in Heaven wasn’t enough to create Khorne, then I’d like to know what was. Like, this was the Cain species; the first species to really get into warfare and unrestrained violence. They might not even have known the Warp existed until Khorne came screaming out of it. And that species is remembered now as the ground floor of the Skull Throne.
Anyway, that’s that screed scooped out of my brain.
