I pointed this out in a Discord server I'm in and thought Id share here:
Bob Iger announced that Disney is going to absorb Hulu, and Hulu will no longer exist next year. All shows will move to the Disney+ app.
Disney also announced they were going to remove shows and movies periodically from their streaming services.
I believe both of these moves are because of the Writers Strike.
Disney knows its going to lose the strike. There is too much public support. Specifically, the WGA is going to win writers getting more residuals from streaming.
So if Disney takes shows off of streaming, they dont have to pay the writers the residuals.
They are going to use excuses like "not enough funding for the server capacity" or "not enough views to warrent keeping the show". These are BULLSHIT. Its all greed. Its only GREED.
Pay attention to what happens in the following weeks.
And keep supporting the writers' strike.

Bisan has called for a global strike this week 1/21-1/28! Offer support in as many ways as you can, but don’t feel bad if you can’t do everything or do it differently than others. We all have a part to play.

Boycott!
Tumblr media
It pisses me off that people care more about the fact that Snow White doesn't have pale skin than that there's a fucking genocide going on in the world (By the way, fucking boycott Disney because they helped Israel financially)
But you can see that there are more important things, remember the Olympics? Instead of being concerned about Israel being allowed, people got more outraged because they thought the drag queen was parodying an image of Jesus and not mythology… Yeah, that was fucking more important to them and it still pisses me off
It pisses me off that bullshit like this makes people look away from the genocide going on in the world and it's fucked up, stop fucking looking away, I understand, you want to feel better, but while you're doing something else, don't forget about Gaza, Congo , Sudan, Haiti, Syria, Ukraine… Just don't forget about them, I'm begging you
Now that I have your word:

This is Muhammad Rafiq Abu Aouda and his family.
They were displaced from their home and shortly after their father was martyred by the Israeli occupation. Currently they are residing in Rafah without any proper shelter food and basic needs. This is a call to action, if everyone who saw this post donated at least 5 dollars then they can reach their goal and evacuate into Egypt before the border closes in 2 weeks.
Please if you cannot donate then share this post, reblog, like, and show to people who can.

Hello, do not ignore. Please, I am a Palestinian mother of three children. I lost my brother, my home, and everything I owned. I was displaced to southern Gaza in search of safety. Please, I ask you to publish the link to my campaign to help me protect my children🙏
https://www.gofundme.com/f/save-maryams-family-from-war?modal=share&source=fundraiser+story
I may be bothering you, but it's difficult. I ask you three things, please. First, share my posts. Second, ask your friends to share as well. Third, write a post about me on your page. Sorry for bothering you.
Not a single one of these asks is bothering me, don't lose hope, we are all with you<3

New blog rule (inspired by recent events): antisemites get one (1) snarky reply from me before they are reported if I choose to respond.
After that, the only response will be thus:

the amptp refused to negotiate AI usage for tv and film
the amptp refused to negotiate weekly MBA minimums during post-production
the amptp refused to negotiate viewership-based residuals for SVOD and (high budget) AVOD series writers
the amptp proposed day-paying (!) comedy/variety writers and daytime writers on streaming as opposed to offering them the same protections they are guaranteed on broadcast and cable.
there’s more and you can read it for yourself. let’s keep this clear: the amptp forced the wga to go on strike, and all of the financial, cultural, and emotional fallout the fault of the studios, not the writers trying to make a living.
to quote amazing tv writer ashley nicole black: “this is scary. but a future where we accept what the companies are trying to do— low paid, freelancer writing gigs with no job security— is much scarier.”
anyways. happy writers strike day one i guess.

I just want to put out such a genuine thank you to everyone who worked on this season of Good Omens. I know everyone’s been joking about how Neil/everyone should sleep with one eye open and as funny as that is I think is so important to also show our immense appreciation. The reactions I’ve seen or had myself are nothing short of devastating. It’s brilliant writing and fantastically well made. I cannot express how much I am grieving these characters, I have not felt something quite like it before. Your stories matter. They mean something to us. Thank you for sharing them.

these studios are fucking nuts what the hell. yall refuse to pay your writers fair wages and intend to starve them out of their houses and savings - these people who probably have families, mind you - all while their privileged asses are sitting on piles and piles of money in their big ass mansions that they will never spend but don't have the balls to share because clearly they missed that class in preschool.
yall absolutely have enough money to pay your writers who quite literally made the shows that filled your pockets. you just won't because you're a bunch of vile assholes. go fuck yourselves.
support the wga, support the sag-aftra if they strike too. make these execs regret the day they were born, and EAT THE RICH.

In 2021, after my grandmother died (2020), ironically, a musical about death (Beetlejuice) helped me in this stage (Same as when the pandemic was going on and people were dying, and my defense mechanism against it was quite disturbing in retrospect...)
Now it's 2024 and you see a lot of people dying (Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Syria, Bangladesh, etc…), now a musical probably won't help (Especially when you boycott Broadway for supporting Israel)
You see collections going too slowly, or stuck at a certain amount and not wanting to move at all
You see how people enjoy productions from companies that are boycotted, and one of the films was the biggest profit…
And you blame yourself for buying something that turns out to be boycotted or you feel bad that when you say goodbye to a certain work by a Zionist creator, you listen to it for some time and never come back…
I got angry when I accidentally played "Lady Gaga" (Who is silent about Gaza along with Taylor Swift)
And yet, I can't describe what I feel because I still haven't learned how to describe my feelings (I'm 23 years old and I'm on the autism spectrum)
You boycott so many artists that you start listening to old music (Because many new artists and bands turned out to be Zionists or silent about genocide)
I haven't watched anything for a long time, I just don't feel like watching cartoons (Too much bad stuff is happening)
That's just the way it's been lately :/
I will provide links to collections (Or posts with links to collections)

I saw a great thing about boycotts vs strikes, and wanted to emphasize that point.
DONT STOP GOING TO THE THEATERS. KEEP GOING. ASK AMC/THEATER FOR OLD MOVIES IF THEY DONT HAVE NEW ONES.
Why?
We all know movie theaters get their money from food sales more than ticket sales.
The theaters have to pay exorbitant licensing fees for new movies and frequently on an individual basis. But that's how studios got so wealthy in the first place.
However studios will lease older movies for less money, and do a bulk deal for each studio. Anytime those license deals are setup, actors and writers get paid in residual money.
So, you go to the theater.
You keep the theater open, showing them there's money to be had in showing old movies.
You pay actors & writers directly.
You even give studios an indicator of "Oh hey, we're not making as much as we COULD if we just stop being jerks about it."
Make them cave.
Drive up Demand.
Go to The Movies.

i think. that ppl in north gaza are some of the most incredible humans that have ever existed. for staying. for experiencing the worst of the worst. for being the bravest possible. and it is because the unarmed palestinians are still there that hamas and any other resistance fighters are able to continue to fight and hold onto the landscape. that is how each palestinian is an automatic resistance fighter. that i show existance is resistance in this moment for palestinians in gaza. there is so much bravery i think people will spent centuries just trying to articulate it. i think the journalists and story tellers in north gaza, they are so brave. i think the beings are so brave. i think the beings there are so revolutionary. every being. the earth being in existance, the plants that continue to grow in the face of bombs and weapons i cannot imagine. the other animals like cats and birds and every being i cannot name still surviving, still finding refuge, still breathing and not just giving up si so incredible. i am in beyond awe. i am so irrevocably changed by genocide. i am so fundementally different.

Arthur T. Demoulas is like a New England folk hero
#he's the ceo of market basket#i'm saying this bc he's a well-known figure and yet i feel like he doesn't live in contemporary times#idk i keep seeing articles about him since it's the 10-year anniversary of the market basket strike summer#apparently he gave current employees bonuses that's nice#for what it's worth i don't know much about him or his policies and have never worked at market basket#although everyone in new hampshire and massachusetts has known several people who at least at one point have worked at mahky bakky#such is the ubiquity of that chain of grocery stores#text post#if you never heard of the 2014 market basket strike it was bc they switched ceos from artie t. to his cousin#arthur s. demoulas and basically none of the workers or public supported the direction he wanted to take the stores into#to quote my mom at the time ''he wants to make it more like shaw's'' (deep slander)#and like it was quite stunning how not a single person shopped at market basket that whole summer#no one would own up to it if they even stepped in. you risked hisses from the local community#i know one person who talked about going in once in the fall and they said it was a complete ghost town#let alone do i know if they had ANY employees bc scabbing for them... could not have been a good look#but then once they switched back to arthur t. as ceo. it was like. it was like the instant burst of energy#that we thought we'd all get at one point 'when the pandemic ends'#it was like all at once energized and back to normal#fascinating story
