Hi Anon! Thank you so much for reaching out 💕 I am still writing Keep Close, albeit at a glacial pace. Work and life have been very chaotic (divorce, moving back in with family, understaffed), so I’m trying to get back into my writing habit as things settle down.

Thank you so much for sending an ask. Your kind words mean so much to me!

Have a tiny snippet from the next chapter:

“What is that?” Danse asked Dollie quietly.

The Assaultron seemed to have heard him, and its eye flashed red. “I’m all woman, baby. Can’t you tell?”

He blinked at the robot uncomfortably, not sure what he could do in such a situation. Clearly it had been programmed in such a manner as some kind of joke, one he didn’t find particularly humorous.

The assaultron leaned onto the countertop in mock flirtation, tilting its head in his direction. “Nothing a man like you couldn’t handle.”

“Kleo, do you have any fusion cells?” Dollie piped up, setting a hand on his bicep and pulling the robot’s attention away from him. He’d have to thank her later for saving him the embarrassment of having to respond.

but price is the one that launches into swinging. there is no warning, no hesitation. taking a step, even a single word against you, warrants immediate action in his mind. it's no laughing fucking matter. you are a top fucking prize, his prize, the best the world has to offer. john is rabid in his protection, bearing tooth and boot and claw and fist. there’s no point in talking to him or trying to negotiate, an offense is an offense and he won’t meet it halfway. someone looks at you the wrong way? they won't be able to see out of swollen eyes after headbutts them, crushing their nose. someone whispers something nasty about you? good luck even eating with that jaw wired shut. god forbid someone touches you, the other three boys can barely hold him back. john will break countless bones in every way he knows and beat his knuckles bloody if your smile starts to drop.

An old familiar song spilled from the radio, and Dollie felt herself lighten.

“I haven’t heard this song in years.” She mused, setting her glass of wine aside.

It was a bright tune, one that reminded her of simpler times, when her mother would take turns teaching her and Lila the dance steps when they were young. That old house in Athens, Georgia with the little wrap around porch… easier times.

She glanced to the man beside her and felt her heart flutter. She stood from her chair, nudging his arm to pull his attention away from his rifle.

“Why don’t I teach you something for a change?” She offered out her hand, bravely.

Danse looked up at her with poorly masked uncertainty, glancing between her outstretched hand and the probing smile on her face. “What do you have in mind?”

“Dancing.”

He frowned, scratching at the back of his neck. “I’ve told you I’m not experienced with dancing.”

“That’s why I’ll teach you.” Her smile only widened as she reached for him, taking his hands and tugging. “On your feet, Soldier.”

She was surprised when he didn’t pull away.

“I’ll step on you.” He tried to dissuade her once more.

“I don’t mind.” She tugged again. “Let’s be normal. Just for a bit.”

He followed her coaxing, rising from his chair. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

She exhaled a laugh, pulling him into the open space. “I’ve been warned.”
