Six of Crows AU where there's some sort of International Farmers Association that has big meets every now and then where farmers come from all over and Jesper's father has met Kaz's parents there before so when Colm (Jesper's father) meets Kaz he recognizes him almost immediately

"Do I know you?" Colm asks, "That is, have we met before?" And then, before Kaz or anyone else even has the chance to respond: "The Rietvelds! You're the Rietvelds' boy, aren't you? Now, which one are you, then? Jordie or Kaz?"

Someone, inevitably: "Kaz is a farmboy?!"

☆ - how about a happy Kanej headcanon

Flowers! Mostly happy, with just a tinge of sadness on Kaz's end.

They each have two favorite flowers. Inej loves wild geraniums, because they're her mother's favorite, but her personal one is wild chamomile. She loves how they smell, that they are useful and beneficial, that they'll grow in many places, thriving in harsh conditions, like the Ravkan wilderness. Kaz learns to love chamomile because it reminds him of Inej. The scent can ground each of them. He even gets to liking the tea, using it to help him sleep, especially when Inej is away at sea.

Kaz's are both tied to his mother. The first is camellias, since his mother wanted to plant something that would bloom around his birthday. They're a little bittersweet, since he cannot help but think about that his mother only saw the bushes she planted bloom once before she died. His other favorite flower are dandelions. Because they're one of the first flowers to bloom in the spring, and they have two lives. Jordie taught him to blow on the seed puffs. Later, his father tells them that was their mother's favorite flower. There's a symbolism in the double life of the dandelion, its hardiness and tenacity.

When Inej asks him about flowers, and he shares his two, she tells him about dandelions. How she likes them too, how they grow in every country, what the Suli call them, etc.

Kaz makes arrangements with a zowa woman who can influence plant's growth and flowering patterns, to alter two chamomile plants for Inej as a birthday gift. They will bloom for a longer period of the year, albeit more slowly, and require slightly less sun. It's a less extravagant gift than some of his others, but Inej adores the plants, and the thought behind it.

Six of Crows au where the crows stay in Ketterdam after the heist (and Matthias is alive obvs) and Colm (Jesper’s father) visits Ketterdam all the time because those kids really need a parent figure like Nina what do you mean you haven’t seen your parents since you were a kid? Excuse me Wylan your father did WHAT NOW?? Matthias what about your family? Dead? Oh. Inej? ‘Somewhere in Ravka’ isn’t that specific. Kaz what do you mean your mother is Ketterdam go get some therapy please. And so Jesper’s dad adopts his son’s whole friend group

Being a reader has corrupted me. Like, there are some things in life which I cannot truly see the same again. For example; every time I see an apple my mind immediately goes "JACKS!!" and every time I see some kind of black bird I always have to guess which crow it is. I'm like "well that one's on the roof so it has to be inej" I do it, often, it's disgusting and I can't stop 😭

"Kaz, why is my mother forging paintings for you?" He shrugged nonchalantly. "I suddenly found myself in possession of a few paintings that would cause some stir if it were to come out that I had them. I merely relayed my dilemma to her over cards a few months back. She offered. I accepted. Who am I to pass up an offer from such an excellent artist?" “You’re not blackmailing her, are you?” he asked suspiciously. “If I wanted to blackmail a Van Eck I’d be blackmailing you, not Mrs. Hendricks. Much better material to work with.” He couldn’t decide whether he should be offended that Kaz still considered him an easy mark or relieved he didn’t have to try to ban him from the house for the foreseeable future. It wouldn’t have worked anyway, Wylan thought gloomily. Kaz had broken into the mansion while his father had been actively trying to murder him, and he hardly walked through the front door now. He’d just pick a random window lock and show up at breakfast anyway.  Still. Better than the alternative. He’d rather Kaz Brekker sit at his breakfast table than plot the demise of a second head of the Van Eck household (which would certainly be his fate if he did anything to keep Kaz from seeing Inej when she docked next week).

Verbanden & Geesten

Chapters 1 & 2 of Verbanden & Geesten, the 11 story in the Kanej Wensen series, are now up on A03.

This title, Ties & Ghosts, is quite literal as well as metaphorical. I went into some interesting challenges with this story. There's no smut, but plenty of action, emotion, and exploration. I even did my first Wylan POV, plus you get another OC POV. Chapter 3 comes tomorrow, after I comb through it one last time. It was the hardest chapter to produce, and one of the pieces that wrung every last emotion out of me while writing it. I sincerely hope my readers will relish seeing Kaz spend time at his family's farm after nearly a decade.

Summary for V&B:

Kaz deals with waiting for Inej to return, gang politics with the Razorgulls, redecorating his bedroom, getting a tattoo, and a visit to his childhood home. Jesper and Wylan visit the Slat, meet Krai, and help Kaz out with some gang politics, among other things.

You know what's a small detail that soooooo many people seem to forget that's generally pretty inconsequential, but I notice it every time I see it?

Kaz and Jordie are NOT from Lij. They're actually from a completely separate, unnamed place. Which sounds unbelievable, I know, because everyone tends to include that information in various posts and content and etc, but I swear it's true! Look:

It specifically says that Lij is about two towns over from where Kaz and Jordie grew up. So where are they actually from??? The world may never know.

I have too many wips to start this now however I do have a kanej au swimming around in my head so I’m gonna leave a little poll here to see if there’s interest in the premise and if it’s worth bearing in mind for the future

The premise: in a The Sound of Music inspired story (but warped slightly to fit a more grishaverse-y world and the characters’ backstories), Inej Ghafa escaped her abusers at a young age and was taken in by a Saints’ Convent where she has lived ever since. But Inej has never fit in with the Sisters here, and eventually the Mother Superior determines to find a new path for her. Inej, then, is to be sent to the household of Captain Kaz Brekker to work as a governess for his seven children - with the promise that the Convent is always open for her to return to should she wish.

After the death of his wife, Imogen, several years prior Brekker put his gloves on and never took them off again, distancing himself from the world and his children. Maybe Inej can start to melt the ice around Kaz’s heart - but with mounting pressure on the Kerch nation to ally with Fjerda in the coming war, and the country’s want of the Captain’s military expertise, how long can the happiness they are trying to grow even last?

Questions about the au are welcome, and as I said this won’t be coming any time soon but I have been thinking about it so if there’s interest I’ll add it to my list for the future
