What if the Blue Team trolled the Alpha kids?

I think if Nepeta trolled Jane they could've helped each other overcome their unrequited crushed.

Eridan's obsessive talk about Feferi could make Roxy realize how she's been treating Jake and Dirk. Eridan could've talked her out of her substance abuse (having first hand experience with one of his friends). Hell they could've had their own heart to heart after Eridan murders Feferi and Kanaya (mirroring John's talk with Vriska)

Equius may be a perfect fit for Dirk, but I didn't think he wanted anything to do with the humans; Feferi on the other hand wasted no time in trolling. Imagine her awe upon discovering one who can interact on Derse while conscious! They would message each other in dreams and real life, their conversations having facetious undertones (Dirk seeing through Feferi's bubbly facade, while the latter can see the cracks in the other's stoic demeanor). The irony of Alpha Dave and HIC's descendants forming a relationship won't be delicious; maybe Feferi would've developed some pitch feelings towards Dirk.

Due to Grandpa Harley's connection to time travel, it's a no brainer Aradia would talk to Jake. It could be confusing for the latter, with Bot!Aradia trolling him while GodTier! Aradia speaks with him in dreams.

That would have been way better for Act 6. Could even see Blue Team interfering with Jack Noir, Caliborn, and Calliope.

Unfortunately lower visual quality than I wanted be because Tumblr only allows 10 images so I smushed them into three canvases instead of two post. Anyway beta trolls Headcanon and some thoughts below the cut.

Aradia

Aradia is the design I probably have the most experience drawing of the beta trolls purely because of how many zines I’ve drawn her in the last year. I like thinking of her hair similar to Pinkie Pies’ in g4 of mlp, where it’s very curly bouncy in her alive and godtiered forms but straightens out more when she’s ghosting up the place and in Aradia-bot form. I didn’t realize until a recent zine I had been drawing her horns ways too low for comic accuracy but I am a creature of habit so I keep drawing them like that.

Tavros

I’ve grown to love this kid because of my recent reread but I do not like drawing them. Between the Mohawk and the long, straight horns, I don’t care to draw their most important traits so he unfortunately only gets drawn in these group drawings. As for the one ear being pierced, it’s kinda a reference to cow tags but also I think it just fits them.

Sollux

Sollux a pretty easy character to design. I just have to imagine a greasy nerd kid growing up too fast for him to put on weight, add his troll bits and voila. The snake bites are definitely a hold over from the humanstuck I made for him last year but I think it just kinda add to his whole vibe. The undershirt comes from someone who also sits in a hot-ass room most of my days and will wears a second layer so leaving the room won’t feel like stepping out into a frozen wasteland.

Karkat

Karkat for me has always been short and stout guy. Other than that most of his facial features are taken from me, being someone who also over exaggerates their faces and nearly always is squinting a little.

Nepeta

Between all my designs of Nepeta the only thing that ever changes with any consistency is her hair. Like giving her cleft lip scar because I gave it to my fan-descendent of her and it’s cute.

Kanaya

Like two months ago I saw a post on here saying give that girl a nose (in reference to Kanaya) and it was the single most true HC I have ever seen. I also like completely throw out any references I have of her when I draw her hair because I think she should have 1930’s waves and curls. I typically only have to draw the super simple eyes so the only thing I had to change was giving her actual eyes.

Terezi

Got pretty comic accurate but probably would erase some of the chin to imply she’s fat a little better if I wasn’t doing this more rigid style.

Vriska

Also pretty comic accurate with the exception of the snake bites which is probably because I don’t draw her a lot and I don’t think about her much enough looks wise to have any specific head canons.

Equius

Goodness his hair gave me a struggle, kept on looking like a balding metal head until I added the pushed back stuff. Also returned back to drawing pseudo animal ears by giving him horse ears only angle to better fit a humanoid head.

Gamzee

I hate their make-up but every thing else about drawing them is a dream; goat ears, not straight hair, simple horns, silly little guy. What more could I ask for.

Eridan

And I’m almost done but unfortunately this doofus is next and requires the most detailed bust even in canon. Due to drawing them in this year’s 413 countdown I know how I like styling their hair and fins so I basically just chop the hair up since this is suppose to be during comic hcs and then follow their canon and Pesterquest designs with a few added features and boom. I was drawing everyone with the dark grey lips but I forgot for Eridan so I’ll just say they use concealer on their lips.

Feferi

Yippee! Back to ignoring canon and just giving her the biggest eyes on account of her glasses and cute piercings. I originally based her fins off of lion fish fins but they’re definitely more based off of betta ventral fin now.

the comparison to reddit for the communities label is actually very weird, because the thing that makes reddit such a bad platform is the karma system, baked into the premise of reddit. there's a ton of other comparable systems - the one that actually immediately came to mind is deviantart groups, which is actually an extremely good feature

its something that i think could be fantastic for tumblr as a site for artists if handled properly, and no, actually, i dont think "better tags" is a way to do it, like. ao3 has tag wranglers who keep shit in line, and this is actually something cohost has been dealing with since it developed this "cohost global feed" problem, too, being able to search by unique tag is just a pipe dream where people can agree on how things are tagged. do you tag it as #epilepsy, #epilepsy warning, #eye strain, #cw epilepsy, #flashing colors (THIS IS THE RIGHT ONE) because messing up can have real consequences

and conversely, would you rather track #rosemary, #kanrose, #rosekan, #kanaya x rose, #rose x kanaya, and #grimsnark, catching stray posts from herb enthusiasts, seeing the same 10 posts from following a tag, or risking a spam bot catching it trending and deciding to dump stolen selfies in there, or would you want to just be in the rose/kanaya group?

and if its bad, dont you want something crazy to laugh about, dont you want the drama? dont you want the sarah z video (wishful thinking, lets be real, strange aeons video) about tumblr communities drama in 5 years, like. cmoooooooon live a little

I believe you had once noted that sopor slime resembled cartoonish nuclear waste -- since the slime's an apparent avenue of Lord English influencing the population (or just damaging it), do think that might relate to Scratch's "seeds" being nuclear bombs?

i gave this ask some thought offline and mostly came up with lines to draw between the cue balls and recuperacoons more broadly, not necessarily along the nuke line, so this is a bit of stream of consciousness...

sleeping and crystal balls are both methods of fortune telling? the cue ball and recuperacoons are both computers of a sort (was Scratch's method of helping with Kanaya's "daywalking" at all similar to Jake's computerised remedy for Jade's "sleepwalking")? the cue ball seed is also seemingly filled with some kind of slime - dark water, sloshing about the cavity in [Scratch's] head - and in fact the biggest nuke of all, the Tumor, famously turned two giant vials of 8ball slime into a giant radioactive sun... perhaps that's your in? (if I'm not mistaken, Hiveswap also makes some reference to radioactive mind honey "runoff" - literally equating the slime in Alternian computers to irradiated slag)

in a tangentially similar vein, we can think of the seed itself as a cocoon... I think it was BKEW who forwarded that the cue ball that English's head breaks out of was like a chrysalis stage that filtered out the unneeded parts of Dirk and Equius that he didn't need..? does anyone have that post?

when we pit cue ball and recuperacoon against each other, though, what my instinct immediately says is that if the cocoon is a part of the pool table, it's a pocket... specifically, if the slime serves the purpose of "relaxing ooze [that] helps assuage the terrible visions of blood and carnage that plague the dark subconscious of your species", then can we see the cocoon as one of the "dark pockets" one can retreat into to avoid English's omnipresent glare? keeping in mind, of course, that dark pockets are, in and of themselves, English's tools. cocoons as voyeur-bots/beds also puts a different spin on the idea that "no information can escape" a dark pocket.

some of my earliest speculation into the function of the recuperacoon was in response to some analysis of the Evangelion film series, in which slime (LCL here) and black holes are both functionally gateways to the same womb dimension. in this scenario, the sopor slime is one method of making sure Alternia remains a planet of preteens who never grow up, by forcing them to return to their cocoons and dissolve bodily in order to be reborn again as children every day and night. but is this not also literally the fate Caliborn is condemned to? struggling every night to be born as a world-eating monster, only to be pulled into a black hole and have to live it all over again, ad infinitum?

I mused recently that Caliborn's session acts as a purgatory, presumably holding him prisoner on a desertified earth until he can brute force his way into maturity and break free. so in the same way that Caliborn's house juju acts as a physical stand-in for Homestuck itself - four kids trapped within and forced to grow strong enough to break out - maybe the cueball is the very same thing for Caliborn, an eggshell containing the very essence of his journey, which can only be 8r8ken out of when the weakest parts of him have been dissolved away by radioactive acid? again - the seed as a cocoon. (and the cocoon as a bomb?)

I'm not sure any of this really answers your question, beyond the vague notion that maybe radioactive sludge is an anti maturing agent? (sterilisation via radiation?) but to cap things off, thinking of the cue ball seed as a bomb did make me think back to Problem Sleuth's jawbreaker bomb, which was literally just a candy shell around a highly volatile infinite recursion of realities. that's all I've got!

Re: Teeth/Horns: it may be Rose's paranoia (she readily accepts the idea of oppressively imposed physical defects when Kanaya brings it up). Retroactive dubious inconvenience IS the psychic influence imposed by such features (linked to void via physicality and misfortune, such as the implanted heart in Aradia-bot). The features may result from evolution organically, but that does not mean that the environment that produced them wasn't cultivated on purpose. Like grooming as Aradia tells Kanaya.

Re: Tooth/Horns (part 2 electric boogaloo): Also IMO it should be noted that the Harley-Berts (who have their chompers on full display all the time) are frequently depicted as being taken advantage of by direct psychic manipulation (though influence is limited by gift or technology.) Could provide a rationale for Karkat seemingly being the least LE influenced troll. The whole 0:B (horns/teeth) discussion positions Jade's (and the other HarleyBerts) teeth as nubby horns (weak receivers).

It would certainly be monumentally silly if the historical usage of buckteeth as a moron signifier were formalized in Homestuck by characterizing large teeth as antennae for psychic manipulation...

The topic of Karkat's horns has come up before in the context of slurquest. I've read it both as part of Karkat's feminization (horns are phallic, and whiteness is posed as the feminine counterpart to the masculine blackness that pervades Alternia) and as part of Alternian antisemitism (the Moses-derived trope of Jews having horns leads Karkat the Christ figure to have minimally potent horns). Posing nubby horns as prominent teeth kind of throws a wrench into that though, if horn/teeth share a consistent characterization...? which they might not, but it makes me pause.

Maybe I'm just tired, but the first half of this ask is sort of incoherent to me at the moment. Is the Rose/Kanaya thing in reference to Rose wanting to play along with the Stupid Rose script, or something else? I'm not the least bit familiar with Void representing physicality. I brought up Seer: Descend not because of Horrorterrors but because various pieces of flavor text serve to advertise boys to Rose, or imply that John is nudging the narration in that direction, aggregating in a sense that the narrative/John is trying to push Rose into John's arms by way of subliminal messaging -- or at minimum, that Rose has a paranoid suspicion that this is occurring. Apologies if this is what you were getting at, I just couldn't tell.
