Hello there.
[Slides elegantly into the tags]
Do you ever think about Emotion?
Of course you do. How could you not. But do you ever think about this exchange specifically:
Tumblr media
“You’re not Adrien!”
Because Adrien is sweet, and forgiving, and kind. In fact, kindness is his defining quality — Marinette herself made sure of it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’ll never tell another boy I love him before I know everything about him! Whether he’s kind or not, thoughtful, what he does outside of school and with who… I’ll know everything.”
But.
Do you ever think about Adrien’s development in S4 and especially S5?
Overtime, he has grown resentful of a system that exploits him relentlessly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of the people he gave countless chances to, only to be let down over and over again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of the web of lies and half-truths he constantly finds himself tangled into. A web that is only growing bigger, stickier, and trickier to escape.
Tumblr media
And the Senticousins. Do you ever think about them?
Tumblr media
Do you ever think about how they are each other’s reflection, identical and opposites all at once?
Tumblr media
“When you bring a living being into this world, you have a responsibility towards them. Your duty is to protect them, love them, help them discover the true meaning of their existence. To deprive them of that… is monstruous.”
Tumblr media
“To have a child is to help them blossom, to grow, to find themselves and to be free!”
Do you ever think about their opposite character arcs in S5 — one learning mercy and trust, the other developing a rage so strong it could destroy the world?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you ever think that if Felix can now have this exchange with his mum, and mean it:
Tumblr media
“They’re all monsters!”
“Not all of them.”
Then there’s nothing stopping Adrien from saying this:
Tumblr media
“Look closer, Marinette. They’re the monsters.”

Enemies AU with Chat Noir and Argos except while Ladybug and Chat Noir are having a complicated Enemies-To-Tentative-Allies-To-Friends(?)-To-Genuine-Trust-To-Lovers Arc with Argos suffering just watching the whole charade of dancing around each other, the moment Ryuko comes into play, they speedrun that arc in record time and suddenly the tables have turned with Chat Noir third wheeling Feligami’s (Ryargos’?) flirt-fighting while he and Ladybug are still stuck in between the Friends(?) and Genuine Trust stage.
Ladybug would lecture Ryuko to stop making out with the enemy… If it weren’t surprisingly useful at keeping Argos at bay. (Should she start making out with Chat Noir? For tactical reasons, of course. She definitely doesn’t think about making out with Chat Noir for any other reasons, uh-uh.)
Also the tables have turned further because usually Chat Noir is giving Argos heart attacks with how reckless and self-sacrificial he is but now Chat Noir has to try and shake some sense into him because, “Félix, Félix, she can TAKE your brooch if she’s that close to you— she almost did!” And Argos, having recently made out with Ryuko, is still very dazed and in Loverboy Mode so he’s there like, “It’s… Fine. I can keep it safe.” Very unconvincingly and Chat Noir is like, “Do you think she’ll stop trying to take it??” And Argos smiles softly and says, “No.” and Chat Noir just. Stops trying to convince him not to kiss her and just tells him to be careful.

When did Astruc say Adrien was lame for being feminine? I thought he welcomed the gender nonconforming headcanon? Or writing a lame character that Marinette being exceptional would like? I thought he was canonically popular with girls (and boys haha). Are there tweets I missed?
Oh, no, this isn't based on tweets. This is based on things in the show.
If you pay attention, a lot of characters criticize Adrien for being passive, not standing up for himself and being too emotional. I'm a media analyst, so I'm pretty good at spotting patterns in shows, and Adrien being criticized for his feminine attributes is a pattern, alright.
First we get these comments from Gabriel, but, we assume we're meant to disagree because Gabriel is abusive and the main villain, but then other characters get in on it.
Félix, during his arc from villain to hero, repeatedly criticizes Adrien for all of these things, and isn't exactly refuted by anyone. Félix is morally gray at this point, though, so a lot of people take whatever he says with a grain of salt. However, it should also be noted that Félix, after his debut, is the writers' pet who always succeeds in whatever he does, so we can't be too sure that the writers disagree with whatever he says.
Then come the actual characters no one can refute we're supposed to agree with. Kagami criticizes Adrien for not standing up to Gabriel and Félix more. A heroic character, who has repeatedly given valuable advice to our leads, is saying this, so we're inclined to agree. When Adrien agrees with her, the show is telling us that this (Kagami accusing Adrien of being too passive) was good advice.
What really solidifies this is Adrien himself being made to say it. That stuff in Kuro Neko about how he's too emotional and too sensitive. That's Adrien saying the parts of him that are girl-coded are wrong because they cause Ladybug trouble. And Ladybug treats this as fact. She doesn't say she agrees, but she does instantly soften towards him and accept him back into the team after he says it, implying her agreement with the statements.
Astruc doesn't need to say anything. He's the most unsubtle creator I've seen and the show speaks for him.
But, if it's direct quotes you want, the writers' commentary tells us that the reason Adrien isn't in the finale is because he's the 'princess' in their fairytale, they call him the "princess sleeping in her tower". So they're replicating sexist story tropes about "sleeping princesses" with no agency in their stories but just reversing the genders. Sounds like adrien's girl-coding specifically being the excuse the writers use to diminish his role to me!

I don’t think we talk enough about how Felix, not-so-deep down, is a fucking ray of sunshine
Yes, he’s introduced as this impeccably dressed, practically silent child prodigy who stands up straight and folds his hands behind his back; but in the very same episode we see him come alive, taunt his enemies, and move as if he was born to take names and kick ass!
Yes, he’s been tortured and nearly destroyed by a father who deemed him monstrous; but through it all he remained (became?) his mum’s little magician!
Yes, he has a sharp tongue; but he uses humour and more precisely the mocking of his abusers to cope with what would otherwise destroy him!
Yes, he learnt to lie through his teeth; but he is never happier than when he is centre stage, waving a fan around and belting out Disney villain tunes, basking in his own dramatics!
Yes, he collapsed on a rooftop sobbing after his plans for freedom and safety crumbled; but he picked himself up in the same damned episode, single-handedly broke Kagami out of her spiral of despair in the very next one, and fights on “because we’re hoping for a happy ending”!
And most importantly:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not even that he wants to hide how much of a bundle of hope and joy he truly is: he’s been forced to hide this softer side and was bursting at the seams for an opportunity to be this radiant little bird once more (or, perhaps more accurately, for the first time). His name literally means happiness!!! He fills me with so much serotonin!!! LOOK AT MY CHILD!!!!! 💜🦚

the best miraculous au is the one where marinette accidently enters the paris olympics and somehow manages to win an absolutely staggering amount of gold medals in a variety of sports while also having absolutely no clue as to what the fuck she's doing.
side note: kagami is also there; yes, she does win gold in fencing, and yes, she does not have a clue in regards to whatever bullshit marinette's pulling or how marinette even got there, but she is definitely going to support her all the way.

When the sentichildren were made, their parents made them to be what they thought “a child” encompassed. The order given, after the tiny newborns were created was “Live and grow as humans”. Live and grow as the humans we want you to be.
Kagami was a reckless child, always running and jumping and climbing on whatever she could get her hands on. Of course, that meant more scrapes and scratches and breaks and tears. She never cared though. Whether it be a scrapped knee or her leg bending the wrong way, she’d get right back up and keep playing. Like nothing had happened. Like she couldn’t feel the pain.
-
Felix never babbled or gurgled or made much of any sound as a baby, infant, toddler. His father found it disturbing and tried to change it, tried to order Felix to speak numerous times over the years. It was clear the child was trying, his face scrunched up with effort everytime the order was given. Yet nothing. It wasn’t until Amelie asked if they had given him vocal cords (“Of course we did! We made a human, didn’t we?”) that Colt realised something had gone wrong with his child.
-
Chloe was a blank slate for much of the first few years of her life. She was often mistaken as a doll for just how quiet and inexpressive she was. Pinching her arm brought a few tears to her eyes, but her face and body stayed stiff and clear. Bringing her as many gifts as the lobby could fit for her birthday didn’t bring so much as a twitch of her lips or widening of her eyes. She didn’t voice her wants, nor did she speak of displeasure. She only gave pleasantries and pre-taught greetings.
It disturbed Audrey to the point she decided she would rather leave to start over with another child, one free from the mistakes of the Peacock Miraculous. It was with her final words to Chloe, an unintentional order to “Just do something! Any emotion is fine, I just want to see something!”, that Chloe’s face finally twitched and twisted and shook and changed.
But, Audrey was already gone.
-
Adrien on the other hand, well he was perfect. He started walking with next to no trail-and-error stage. He always ate what he was given and never made a mess. He cleaned up after himself and was always polite and courteous. And most notable of all, he never cried.
He didn’t cry at his “birth”, he didn’t cry when a maid forgot to change his diaper for 3 days straight, he didn’t cry when his favourite toy was misplaced. He didn’t cry for Chloe when she was a mess at her mother’s departure, he didn’t cry when he was denied going to public school for the nth time, he didn’t cry when he had fallen down the stairs in his excitement to see his mother after she had returned from the hospital.
He didn’t cry at his mother’s funeral.
He had emotions, don’t fret. He was a normal, healthy, and perfect child through and through. But something was wrong, something Gabriel could never figure out, not even with an order to “cry” or “grow lacrimal glands” or “just tell me what’s wrong!”. No matter what he tried, no matter what he told Adrien, the child would simply tilt his head in confusion and move on like nothing happened.
