Canon Diluc: Literally one of the sweetest characters. Gave tiny child Klee grape juice instead of getting mad when she burned down the vineyard and walked her home safely. Is so used to dealing with nobles and their sleazy antics and mind games that he’s socially awkward with normal folk. Made a drink after the Traveler and offered to name it after them. Was straight up *ready* to cut down someone he thought was a pervert harassing the maids. Only went on the fatui murder spree to avenge his father and discovered children had been going missing/experimented on by the fatui. (Ie, Collei) Is literally just one green flag after another.

Haaaaah, people baffle me.

Anyways. Kaeya’s hang out has made me love Diluc even more. Man don’t stand for creeps.

According to Kaeya, “Diluc thought some pervert was harassing the maids. He charged straight out the door, greatsword in hand and raring to go. I haven’t seen him so angry in a long time.”

I wanna make a longer post about Diluc's and Kaeya's dynamic with an interpretation I haven't really seen

i have not played genshin in months but to this day the biggest lie the fandom perpetuates is that diluc ragnvindr is in his early twenties. that man acts like he has a mortgage. “b-but the comic timeline!” hyv literally told me personally that diluc is 40 bc they knew i could handle the truth. reject anime babyface diluc embrace “draft horse cursed by a witch to take on human form” diluc thank you and goodnight

Ragnvindr bros angst is fun but it’s also very important to remember that these absolute dorks still hang out with each other despite the Everything. I’m oversimplifying here but it’s like fighting with your sibling but then texting them a meme twenty minutes later but ramped up to 11 and more emotionally fraught.

Some people: Kaeya’s bio father is an abusive monster who abandoned his son in order to achieve his own selfish goals. He is an evil man who deserves everything awful that might happen to him. 

Other people: Kaeya’s bio father did the right thing and leaving Kaeya in Mondstadt was the only way to give him a halfway-decent life. He is a better father than he is given credit for and should not be as hated as he is. 

Me: Kaeya’s bio father is integral to the general ‘war is hell and bad choices can reverberate across time’ thing that Genshin seems to be going for. He made unethical choices, but mostly because the ONLY OPTIONS HE HAD WERE UNETHICAL. If our understanding of the Alberich’s role in Khaenri’ah is accurate, General Alberich (my name for him until stated otherwise) was suddenly in charge of a hopeless and dead kingdom which begged to be saved. Assuming that there was a reason Kaeya specifically was chosen for this mission, General Alberich was forced into a position where he needed to choose between the lives/future of every Khaenri’an vs the life and future of his young son. Abandoning either is an awful thing to do and a horrible decision, but the bad decisions of Celestia and Rhinedottir have led to a scenario where General Alberich can only make bad decisions. In the end, he chose to prioritize his people and made his young son into a spy. We do not know the process for this, but knowing how much Hoyoverse loves to torment people (especially Khaenri’ans) we can assume that this process was horrific for Kaeya and could definitely be considered abuse. General Alberich is effectively making his son into a child soldier for a war that the majority of people never wanted or asked for, and one Kaeya was likely far too young to understand. At least, until he was forced to grow up far too quickly in order to fulfill his duty. General Alberich likely loathed everything about what was happening and even in his last moments with his son he asks for forgiveness. He knows that what he is doing is wrong, but to turn back now is to both abandon his subjects and make everything that happened to Kaeya in order to turn him into a child spy be for nothing. So yeah, General Alberich is a terrible person who made horrible choices. But war and the bad actions of others have created a situation where he has nothing BUT horrible choices and where being a terrible person is the only thing he can be. And that’s without considering how the curse/abyssal corruption could impact the scenario.

Kaeya most definitely tried to rehearse the first thing he would say to Diluc when he'd heard the man was back in Monstadt. Only to have spat out the most silver-tongued, sickly saccharine yet bitingly snarky little remark bc he happened to panic upon seeing the man and immediately knew just how bad he fucked that up by the utter look on Diluc's face.

Knights of favonius will do the hand salute thingy to you but you never see Kaeya or jean or albedo or sucrose or any of the playable characters do it, i bet Mika and Varka won't either, such a disgrace to the Knight's title

They have checked the calendar twice already, eyeing the crossed date on the 30th. It's this month, they are sure of it. Their master's birthday is coming all too soon and with less than a month away, the preparations have just started.
