Okay, as someone with a whole cocktail of mental issues, including anxiety, probable OCD(recent diagnosis), depressive tendencies, and a fair amount of trauma, as well as being highly sensitive(like my hearing is really good) all of which cause me to react in ways that aren't normal/typical, I kind of don't understand either viewpoint. I have had to apologize to family members and friends because a behavior I exhibit when anxious/overstimulated was hurtful to them. Because it doesn't matter if it's something I didn't mean to do, I still hurt them. Like if someone's really strong and they clap you on the shoulder and it hurts, they still have to apologize for hurting you, even if they didn't mean to cause you pain, and they should work on that. As someone with unhealthy coping mechanisms I'm working on, it's really important for me that I acknowledge that it isn't great for people around me either. For example: sometimes when I disassociate, as soon as I snap out of it, I silently start doing a task as if I'm programmed to do it. It's a way for me to force myself to not disassociate again, but if someone tries to stop me and say 'hey, maybe take a second considering your brain just went on a little vacation,' I end up snapping at them or being cold. It is not my fault that I disassociated, and I shouldn't apologize for that, but I do need to apologize if my response to them trying to help me was hurtful-because their emotions are still important. I am not responsible for them, just as they're not responsible for mine, but there is no reason for another person to feel as though I am dismissing their pain due to me also having pain. Because that sucks.

I think there's some misunderstanding when people get offended by the suggestion that Stolas acts classist/racist. It seems that people assume we’re implying he is malicious and intentional with it, but the actual problem is that he doesn't think.

He was still raised in privilege and influenced by the narratives around him. For him, it's acceptable because that's what he was taught is fine. It's part of his everyday speech, and he never actually asks Blitzø, or anyone else, how they feel about the literally belittling nicknames (like literally—do you notice how often he uses the word "little" when referring to imps?).

I mean... there's a lot, okay? I'm just going to pull out some examples off the top of my head. All of them are from Season 1, and I'll explain why later.

Most of these examples come from Season 1 because, after the disastrous Ozzie’s date, Stolas begins to unconsciously cut back on this language. He seems to sense that something is wrong, though he doesn’t fully understand why. However, he is acutely aware of the problems with the transaction and the unfair dynamics it creates, and he is serious about putting Blitzø on equal ground by providing him with the means to run his business independently of Stolas.

And still, he maintains full control over the conversation during the Full Moon meeting, immediately dismisses Blitzø after one mistake, and throws him out. He continues to impose his narrative on Blitzø and…

When have you ever indeed, Stolas? You literally look down on Blitzø saying that. This moment illustrates the problem clearly. He isn’t lying when he says he doesn’t look down on Blitzø because he genuinely believes he doesn’t.

Despite all said, Stolas is making a tremendous effort and is progressing, and he is far ahead of Stella, who is openly classist/racist and very conscious of her biases. So I believe—no, I know—he will get there one day. But not today.

This is something I take quite seriously, and I think people need to understand how dangerous this subtlety can be, as it happens all the time in real life too.

How often do you ask yourself why medical research groups are predominantly represented by white, cis, upper-middle-class males, and how this affects the efficiency of treatments suggested in these studies for everyone else—women, people of color, non-binary folks, and those who struggle financially?

How often do you visit museums and see art created by wealthy aristocrats who defined what constitutes 'fine art,' while 'folk art'—often created by marginalized communities—is overlooked and lost to time?

I could elaborate further on how deep and cruel this bias is, but I’ll stop here. I just ask you to consider why you might get offended when someone points out Stolas's subtle bigotry and why you might downplay it compared to the loud, aggressive Blitzø, whose anger and avoidant issues are obvious.

Just sit with it.

Hawthorn is a Mothman monster. His wings are based on the garden tiger moth and he is so fluffy! He has a thick fuzz on his neck and chest and is a warm, cuddlebug. He also possesses bright orange eyes that pierce the darkness and startle the unfortunate late-night hikers or anyone piercing into the woods after midnight.

He has a thing for hanging out in the thick woods near where the MC lives. Wherever he goes, bad omens follow. He really shouldn't be near MC—he knows he'll be the death of his precious little human, but he can't help it. He's drawn to the MC like a moth to a flame (heheh). He's delightful and gentlemanly, but don't let that fool you. He's got a possessive stretch a mile wide and does not take kindly to anyone giving the MC looks or reaching out for a too-familiar touch. He will bristle and buzz, and fly swift and silent through the darkness to chase after anyone to ensure the MC stays all to himself. He is a bad omen, after all.

Grease is an oil demon! He feeds off of fear, literally, and delights in terrifying people in the night. His body is slick and iridescent, and he is constantly dripping black goo from his person. He is capable of shifting his form to hide in a puddle, slink underneath doors, or bubble through a crack in a broken window. He's got wicked sharp teeth, and eyes like a tiger but with a pale, unsettling blue color. He possesses tendrils on his head that constantly drip and a long, slick tail that he can use to grab MC by the ankle. He's terribly seductive and charming, terrifying but mischievous. He likes to say 'boo' just to watch MC jump. Of course, he's not all tang and salt. He's got a sweet side that rouses in a protectiveness over MC. He's possessive, sure, and he's marked his claim with the oil stains on MC's work apron, but he's got an ooey-gooey center of sweetness that MC occasionally finds when he blushes at a stray touch or a nice comment about him.

Calmo 91, otherwise just called Calmo, is a robot. Constructed in the 90s with a box TV screen head to match, he has bright yellow optics in the screen face along with thick wires falling behind his head in a ponytail-like fashion. He is cool and difficult to read but wickedly intelligent and learning much about humans and affections. His body is a thin endoskeleton with plastic matt gray coverings that give peeks of blue, red, and yellow wires at his metallic joints. He's got a mysterious past the MC is attempting to unravel that he truly wishes the MC would leave be. He's got much to learn about technology but he quickly figures out how to connect to the MC's phone for texting, phone calls, and other useful things of course, like keeping tags on where MC is and monitoring MC's heart rate. Useful tools. Modern technology. Living in the MC's house, he gets to spend more domestic time with the human he decided is kind and generous, but the MC occasionally finds him at the foot of the bed in the darkness, his yellow optics strangely switched to red until the MC says his name and his optics revert back to yellow again.

I feel like part of the entertainment inherent in watching Joy of Life is just seeing Fan Xian react to things. He’s smart and scheming, but he’s also generally kind-hearted and very ready to be amused by things! He processes things quickly and rolls with situations. A person will appear and behave weirdly and he’ll be like, hehe how fun, a new type of weird person. Let’s engage! And then will sink or rise to their level, for sheer trollish fun.

This is, after all, the guy who would’ve cruised happily through life and not gone out of his way to engage in any politics or drama if people hadn’t tried so hard to mess with him. Okay I just need to say that I knew I'd like this Tailstube as soon as I saw the thumbnail (after all, I am a Sonadails enjoyer, and Tails is literally in the middle of them in the thumbnail)

But I think probably something that stood out the most to me when I watched it was just

The hints that Shadow and Tails have a relationship outside of Sonic??

The first thing that tipped me off to this was that not only did Tails convince Shadow to join in on his show, he also convinced him to stick around to its natural end?? You know, Shadow. The guy you can't force to do anything and frequently will just dip if he's bored or doesn't want to be there. But even while Sonic was annoying him and he made it clear he wanted the "interview" over with, he still never made a move to chaos control out of there because of any of this.

And the second thing that tipped me off was this:

When Shadow is both confused and annoyed at Sonic, he chooses to complain to Tails about Sonic. And so Tails steps in to try to "explain" what Sonic meant by what he said (i.e he told Shadow something much nicer in the interest of getting them to be on better terms). The fact that he looks to Tails to complain to about Tails' own best friend and possibly even to explain that which he does not understand in a social context tells me just how highly he regards Tails. And since both Shadow and Sonic are being childish here, it's amusing to see Tails regarded as something closer to a trusted figure with more power here.

From an objective analysis standpoint, of course this means they have their own friendship. And this is a prospect I enjoy (The idea that Tails and Shadow are good friends)! It actually means a lot to me that Tails could form a frienship or bond with Shadow outside of the context of Sonic (in terms of who initiates it and for what reason it's initiated).

But, my friends, from a biased standpoint, I'm shipping trash. And to me this Tailstube was a fun show for Sonadails fans. Honestly, Tails staging this episode to get Sonic and Shadow to talk and "bury the hatchet", as well as how he acts during the show, read a lot to me personally like a guy trying to get his two boyfriends (who happen to be rivals) to get on better terms, if not just tolerate each other. I quite like the idea of Tails dating both of these idiots and just trying to get them to play nice when they're all together (although frankly I think the ideal scenario for Tails in my biased reading is that Sonic and Shadow get together as well).

This is also not to mention the dynamics showcased here! Sonic and Tails as best friends, with Sonic assuming that he and Tails were gonna talk shit about Shadow behind his back, and Tails trying to get him to play nicer. Shadow and Tails as friends, with Tails trying to convince him why he and Sonic are in the perfect position to become friends and helping him out socially, and with Shadow choosing to do something he doesn't want to because of Tails, as well as looking to Tails to complain to when Sonic is annoying him or when he doesn't understand something. And then there's Sonic and Shadow. In short, their relationship in this episode reminded me a lot of the dynamic I plotted out for that Sonadow post I wrote up where the two just beat the crap out of each other. In slightly longer terms, I find interesting how Mr. Flynn maintained Sonic and Shadow's dynamic during SA2 (with Sonic bothering Shadow and trying to fight him, while Shadow is just annoyed that Sonic won't leave him alone) while also showing the audience that they are rivals. And in longer terms...Sonic was clearly seeking a fight during this episode. And the facial expression, the mocking, his tone of voice, it doesn’t really matter whether or not he actually dislikes Shadow and believes they could never be friends. He's trying to annoy Shadow and goad him into a fight because he wants to fight Shadow so badly it makes him look stupid. And we can tell by how he expresses his confusion to Tails that Shadow is just not getting this. To him Sonic is just being annoying and confusing. Sonic is targeting him specifically, and Shadow shoots back with his own words. And so it's also pointed that Shadow reciprocates/actually decides to fight Sonic when Sonic specifically challenges him. He doesn't respond to Sonic trying to goad him on, but when Sonic challenges him specifically he's much more interested in opposing him.

Anyways guys I love Shadow and Tails having a soft on the side relationship while Sonic flirts by convincing Shadow to fight him somehow😂💖

Now that I am thinking about Gilmore Girls, A Thought. Warning-Passionate Ranting, please do not take this as aggression to those with opposing opinions I'm just on my soapbox:

There is a lot I have issue with in the show, but there is nothing I hate so very much as the Adultery Plot™️. Why, you may ask? Because it serves 0 purpose beyond being really freaking dramatic? It doesn't make the story better. It makes the story so much worse. It's the beginning of Rory being the most insufferable main character on the planet. It is entirely OOC for both Rory and Dean, goes against everything we know about them from early seasons.

I am convinced it is simply there for the show to be "edgy." (And to give viewers a reason to hate Dean?? Which I will simply never understand because Hot Take: until that, he was the most morally sound and sweetest of her boyfriends? And I will die on this hill?)

On top of all of that, as @nothinggold13 pointed out to me once, from a storytelling perspective, Dean and Rory are always parralleled with Luke and Lorelei in a way the implies they ought to be endgame. If the writers wanted so badly to ditch Dean, they should *not* have set up the relationship the way that they did. It's poor storytelling. I think the adultery plot exists just to course correct in perhaps the dumbest way possible.

HAVING HIM GET MARRIED IS GOOD ENOUGH COURSE CORRECTION. MUST WE RUIN HIS LIFE? DO WE HATE KIND MEN SO MUCH THAT WE HAVE TO RUIN THEM? IS IT SO TOXIC TO HAVE A TRADITIONALLY MASCULINE MAN THAT WE MUST DRAG HIM THROUGH THE MUD BEFORE WE DISCARD HIM?

Dean had a fiery temper, but he was good to Rory. He was good to Lorelei. He went to things Rory wanted him to go to, even when he didn't want to go. He stood up for her multiple times (including once when they had already broken up and he though Jess had hurt her). He looks after his baby sister. He is the handiman around town. He respects Rory. He isn't pretensious. He has faults, because everyone has faults, but he is good and kind and respectful. We hate on Dean because he is wholesome.

Jess hates everyone but Rory because "she is special." He is rude to everyone but Rory — including children and adults. He gets so mad that Rory won't sleep with him that he punches a wall (but Dean is the one with anger issues, ofc). ANYWAY, I digress.

The adultery plot is dumb and just exists to showcase and glorify edginess. It's just there to prove that Dean is someone for viewers to hate, when we previously have not been given substantial reasons to hate him.
