not to bring back early Shigaraki's edgelord speech but... it still feels relevant, 400+ chapters later.

Shigaraki wielded violence to save his League, wanting to be the villains' Hero. All the League did, trying to protect each other, trying to avenge and the achieve the dreams of each other. Was it admirable? Depends on who you ask, I guess.

It was a war, so both Villains and Heroes have committed sooooo much shit.

But violence breeds more violence; the cycle of sadness spins and spins, and so Deku wanted to stop that, wanted Shigaraki to stop it himself... by as good as killing Shigaraki.

Deku explicitly said he wanted to 'break' Shigaraki's lid - the same word Shigaraki, a Villain, uses often. Deku's ultimate strategy was to destroy Shigaraki's lump of lead core. Pry it open and give his soul a direct beating. Smash Tenko's spirit to break them both.

Even now, in Chapter 424, laying on a hospital bed, Deku uses the word 'crush'/'shatter' to describe how he got rid of Shigaraki's hatred. Not 'heal'—or, to compare, Uraraka who only 'touched' Toga's sadness and made it lighter.

The world was 'DO YOUR BEST'-ing Deku on to kill Shigaraki, to punch him and smash him to dust; and now Shigaraki is 'DO YOUR BEST'-ing Deku to keep his destruction.
