one of the things that continues to strike me on reread is how much the character of Darcy, and Austen through him, finds Mr. Bennet dead. And how much Elizabeth, in growing and changing and discarding her past blindness, has to move past her way of seeing her father and thus of seeing reality, because the two are connected! Darcy’s letter exposes her father’s flaws to Elizabeth in a way she’d never been able to see before. Most especially the way his laziness and neglect of his own gifts have hurt his family and that ultimately he doesn’t. care. Not enough to change. It literally says that she comes home from Hunsford and tries to laugh at her sisters’ and mother’s folly (the way she used to; the way her father has taught her to by example for her whole life) and she can’t anymore! It sticks in her throat. She is grieved by the failures that she sees in him, all the more so because she IS his favorite and she loves him! And the thing about Mr. Bennet is he never changes. The Lydia/wickham situation exposes to him sharply his own conduct and the consequences and he feels it! Because he is neither stupid nor unfeeling. But he, like everyone, has free will. And he chooses not to change when the opportunity presents itself. He even jokes about how quickly his feeling bad will pass and how soon everything will go back to normal, to his laziness and his selfishness. He is set in his ways and he serves as a contrast to Elizabeth’s personal journey because he embodies a version of a person she could have become and was in danger of becoming if her only goal at all times was to laugh at and judge people from the sidelines.
#pride and prejudice#I’ve always loved his character because he IS funny and he is iconic!!! and his love for Lizzy is touching!#he’s not faking it.#but he is so flawed. a man of taste a man of ability a man of judgment.#a man who could and SHOULD have set a different tone for his children and chose not to!#and they SUFFER FOR IT#their house is a divided one. and every child feels the pain of living in a house where the parents neither respect each other#nor are on the same team#there is a crack running through their house for this reason and it’s how Lydia (and Kitty) came to be so neglected!#who is going to discipline them or guide them? certainly not Mr. Bennet!#he’s so important to teach too. because the boys LOVE HIM. of course!#and are always very struck by his failures and laziness once I point it out#and yeah Darcy one of the only people who can expose him. because Darcy is putting in the work a man should be doing#Darcy’s house IS in order. his love is active and protective. he is fulfilling his role!#Mr. Bennet’s gifts are so extraordinary—the wit. the insight into human nature. honestly the capacity for wisdom#but he likes his library. he likes enjoying himself more than he likes doing his duty#as either a father or a husband#he does fail Mrs. Bennet! I have compassion for her there#anyway I love to think about this: something no version I have ever seen has ever fully explored#but man is it on the page#yeah yeah sorry for all the words. teacher off duty etc.

I want a Steve who genuinely doesn't want to play DnD because it's just not his thing! He enjoys watching and thinks some of it seems fun, but just isn't interested in the time commitment, or the math, or various other parts of it.
HOWEVER he does demand, like a child when they find out someone is writing a book, to be put in every single campaign as a random npc. He doesn't want to sit down for hours roleplaying, but he does want that seductress in the tavern to have good hair and be named Stevana.
And this isn't like, something the others don't know about, it's very obvious who it is each campaign. Sometimes Eddie even convinces Steve to do the voice for the character if it's a fun one and Steve isn't at work. Steve enjoys how much it both amuses and gets on various Hellfire members nerves, especially because his characters are always... Pretty out there.
Gareth and Jeff tend to be amused by Steve's characters, unless they are actively getting in their way and even then Jeff at least normally just finds them hilarious. Freak continues to want to study Steve like a bug. A crowd favorite for the CC members but a point of annoyance for the Party was the character that Steve pitched that was infatuated with that quest's main villain and would appear randomly just to say something really suggestive about the big bad, inconvenience them somehow even in a really minor way, and then dip. They were definitely supposed to be rescuing Stefano at one point but he was basically kidnapping himself at several points. Dustin is perpetually annoyed because Steve won't play with them for real, but he WILL play a random bimbo that starts them on a quest and enjoys flirting with the older members characters.
(Will and Lucas are... Maybe a little disappointed he's never flirted with their characters but also, Steve would never do that lol.)
Eddie is fine with it, he thinks this is a great compromise. He gets that Steve doesn't want to do hours long storytelling sessions, but this way he still gets to enjoy time with Steve doing one of his favorite things - creating characters and writing the most annoying stories possible. He loves that Steve is participating in even just a small way, and honestly only having him participate for a little bit at a time is better for Eddie's ability to stay on task anyway. He knows Steve wouldn't have fun being a player but he also knows Steve loves being a problem.
#steve harrington#eddie munson#steddie#hellfire club#dustin henderson#stranger things#steve#eddie#dustin#gareth#jeff#freak#cc#walkie chatter#im thinking of this as a general hc but this started bc i was thinking of steve in my drummer au and i was like#yeah steve wouldnt like dnd but he would love creating dumb characters#and i think once gareth gets past his judgment of steve hed find him hilarious#as long as he isnt getting in the way of him trying to steal shit or st then he gets pissy#but jeff loves steve and thinks hes hilarious lmao#idk i think people get too focused on getting steve to play when i jsut dont think hed enjoy rping for hours at a time!#in a hot room#but he does love fucking with people

Satine Kryze should not be a sympathetic character.
A complex and tragic one? Sure. Every day of the week.
But she did not 'have a point', neither in-universe, not outside of the sw framework. She isn't a hero, neither of her own story, nor of someone else's. There is no way she wasn't a tool. You should not look at her and think 'this woman has done nothing wrong and what ultimately happened to Mandalore was to no part her fault'.
Because guys. Friends. Strangers on the interwebs.
Pacifism doesn't work.
And it certainly wouldn't have worked in motherfucking Star Wars – the 'wars' is literally in the title – for a system or series of systems who wanted to stay neutral.
YOU DON'T STAY NEUTRAL FOR LONG BY JUST SAYING 'YEAH, NO THANKS <3' TO A LARGE-SCALE CONFLICT.
source: I am Swiss, we've looked at this in history class. Extensively.
Satine was a dreamer (thanks Obi-Wan) who was allowed to keep her delusions because they actively benefitted Palpatine's plans. And that's something you can quote me on. There is literally no other reason (apart from supremely bad writing but we'll leave that aside here) for her and her little friends' 'Alliance of Neutral Systems' or whatever to be allowed to exist.
Not that they were neutral in any way, shape or form, by the way.
So yeah sorry to the Satine stans, but you're idolizing a character that was written exclusively and specifically for Obi-Wan's manpain and who, in-universe, was a supremely bad politician. Because the level of mental dissonace needed to factually be a Republic System, have a seat in the fucking Republic Senate, rely upon their military for aid while actively proclaiming that All Violence Is Bad And Barbaric one sentence later AND THEN CLAIM TO BE NEUTRAL IN THE WHOLE CONFLICT – it's just mind-blowing. Even moreso that people actually look at this character and see something aspirational in her.
Again, I'll gladly dissect her character any day of the week. She is fascinating because of all the implications her existence as a head of state carries with it, as well as her deeply complicated family history and her relation to mandalorian culture.
But it just grates on me personally that that all gets ignored in favor of her being some sort of icon of white american saviorism (bc that's literally what she is) and her objectively bad political takes being treated like they are the only correct stance to be taken during the Clone Wars/Mandalorian Civil Wars.
If you think pacifism works and actually lets you stay neutral, I desperately urge you to open a history book. Because those two are mutually exclusive. Especially in the scenario that Star Wars paints.
#you know i would have LOVED actual neutrality be explored in sw canon#but noooo#we got satine and her judgmental draft dodger club#give me neutral systems that ARENT having a happy fun time#that are shooting down republic and seperatist crafts alike when they cross their borders#that are struggling to stay self-sufficient during the wars and that have to make questionable deals with both sides to afford supplies#you know. things based in reality#there is no moral way to wage war#and there is no moral way to stay out of it#its a lose lose situation and i WISH tcw had treated this as such#random boli thoughts#just some meta ramblings to satisfy the blood demons#satine kryze critical#satine kryze#like. before you tell me i'm wrong name ONE single reason that the separatists had for not immediately annexing mandalore#or the 'neutral' systems in general#you dont stay neutral by just saying 'not my business'#you stay neutral by being too fucking annoying to annex#that is literally the only way#star wars#star wars meta

sometimes someone will tell you an incredibly judgmental opinion on you or on your life and it will be completely invalidating and it will be based only on their ignorance on whatever they are talking about and as hurtful as that invalidation is you should not assume that everyone will think the same way, even if they are sure they are telling an absolute truth. that is a weird thing to do in the first place and you don’t have to prove yourself to someone who believes they have constant moral or intellectual superiority. they’re an exception, not the rule. no one is judging you so hard and it’s okay if you don’t want to hang around someone who constantly puts you down or makes you feel like you don’t belong. just don’t assume everyone else agrees with them without ever giving other people a chance.
most often people are just dealing with their own problems and they are not scrutinizing every little thing you do, and you don’t have to act like someone else’s opinion of you is the whole truth just because they want that you to, especially when it’s based of no knowledge or experience and it carries so much prejudice. if you can walk away from those types of discussions, please do. don’t justify everything you do to someone who is committed to judging you based on their misconceptions and it’s not willing to see things from another perspective. I just promise you not everyone will be like them
#some people are awful in their judgments#but don’t generalize it and self isolate out in fear of never meeting someone who likes you#give yourself a chance and give new people a chance too#you’re not worthless#you’re enough as you are to build new friendships#self-worth#self-acceptance#reminder#original writing#self-compassion#important

The biggest argument that Anakin's story in the prequels is not about being failed by everyone rather than about giving in to your worst impulses is anidala. You could say that Obi Wan was too quick to give up on him, you can say he had a hard life, but can you really say that Luke was the first person to offer him unconditional love, knowing what he'd done, to tell him he could stop, to offer support? You can't, because Padme did all that. Anakin changed.
#sometimes i sit down and feel like saying things for some reason#EDIT: I should probably specify that I don't think Obi Wan was too quick to give up or bad for his response. that's not really my point.#i'm not making a judgment call on either him or padme here. that's not what this is about.

A kind reminder
That systems who use parts language aren't less of a system
That systems are allowed to enjoy and benefit from a parts-focused framework
That parts language means different things to different systems, and no one defines it the same way
That anyone and everyone is allowed to use parts language
That parts language says nothing about the validity, autonomy, or realness of the system, alters, or parts
That parts language is only dehumanizing if you view it as such, and that you need to be incredibly careful about how you talk about parts language and those who use it
Parts language is personal and unique to each of us, much like healing choices, like fusion or functional multiplicity
Don't let anyone make you feel bad or wrong about a framework that has helped you
Show the same respect for parts language that you would about any other personal choices
#because some of you are pieces of shit and you deserve to know it#judgmental dicks incapable of a single nuanced thought#uneducated fools who have zero idea what parts language is or where it actually came from#stop listening the fucking tpa they're the worst for perpetuating myths and dehumanizing CDD systems for their personal choices#you know who the fuck you are#you are showing so much disrespect and a complete lack of education and you're blaming others for your inability to use Google#syscourse#anti endo#pro endo#system safe#parts language#syscourse engaged#plural#plurality#PARTS CAN BE PEOPLE TOO#did#osdd#actuallydid#actuallyosdd#actually dissociative#actually traumagenic

I just beat Veilguard for the first time after about 100 hours, I give it a 5.7/10. I would’ve enjoyed it more if I hadn’t loved Dragon Age since 2009 and had this story not been one of the cornerstones of my life since I was a child
#against my better judgment I held it to a very high standard that could not have been reached#it was fun it had its moments but so much was lacking and there were too many rough edges for me to say I’m happy right now#dragon age#dragon age veilguard#dragon age the veilguard#da4#I’ve mentioned before that it felt like the heart of what made dragon age dragon age was gone and I’m saying that again#I think people who haven’t played the previous games would like it more#They don’t know what they’re missing and what beautiful thing this story could’ve been#I feel empty right now#A very deep and resounding ‘that’s it?’ is sitting in my heart#that being said time to play as a crow

Crystal Warnings
Threats to Earth are not news to the Justice League. Neither is the fact that a threat is "too powerful" for them, what is new is that the U.S. government wants to provide them with help, since when have they ever wanted that?
It is a novelty that does not sit very well with Bruce, because he feels that there is something wrong with the situation. They had faced thousands of dangers but it is only now that they are offering something? Definitely suspicious.
However Clark's curiosity was only outweighed by Barry's desperation to find a solution so he agreed to listen to what the "GIW" had to say.
Apparently their current threat was very much connected to them, which Bruce was not surprised by, what did surprise him was that the threat was less of a threat and more of a warning of sorts. As usual, people had played with things they shouldn't, causing catastrophic results.
The organization that contacted them had some sort of crystal, they flatly refused to say where it came from but explained that it was very important to beings from another dimension, and they were trying to contain the threat but found it impossible.
What Bruce got out of that conversation was that the organization had greatly disturbed a civilization full of unknown beings for the sheer joy of it. And that their current enemy was nothing more than a being desperate to retrieve whatever the crystal was.
Clark, of course, asked them for the crystal, to which they seemed very reluctant but in the end agreed. And Bruce set about contacting Diana, because he was sure they needed a diplomatic intervention rather than an actual battle.
It became clear that the crystal was extremely important when the giant eldritch menace transformed into a desperate teenage girl the moment the crystal appeared in her field of vision. That was even more evident when hundreds of portals began to form around the place, different creatures scowled at the humans.
Bruce vowed never to place his trust in organizations outside the League and its allies again. He swore doubly so when the crystal stopped being a crystal and transformed into a groggy, sleepy teenager mid-conversation.
There really was a hell of paperwork ahead. But at least the world was saved from human stupidity, again.
