Joseph Thompson
Joseph Thompson (died 1719) was a pirate from Trinidad, Cuba and was one of the 209 pirates on New Providence who declared to Captain Vincent Pearse their intention to accept an offer of amnesty and pardon made in 1718. Together with Charles Vane and several others, he soon returned to piracy. After hiring an additional crew for his sloop Eagle, he captured and plundered several ships in the area. In December 1718, within sight of Port Royal, Thompson captured a ship called the Kingston, whose cargo was worth over £20,000. The ship owners complained to the Jamaican governor Nicholas Lawes, but there were no Royal Navy warships available.
Instead, Lawes commissioned two sloops in the harbour and promised them a share of the pirates' treasure in addition to the rewards King George had promised in his proclamation of September 1717 to combat piracy. The two sloops set sail before the end of the year and encountered the pirate ship and another captured vessel. The pirate ship under Captain Thompson hoisted a black flag and proceeded to attack.
Thompson's ship passed alongside one of the pirate raiders and ‘threw a large number of powder flasks, shells and stink cans into the ship, killing and wounding several and causing others to jump overboard. ‘The other pirate raider collected the survivors, whose accounts of the fight ‘so disheartened the men on board the other ship that they made their way back to Port Royal.’ Thompson's crew of 150 men, ‘bandits of all nations’, abandoned the remaining sailors in the Cayman Islands.
Jamaica's merchants again appealed to Lawes to take action against Thompson. Lawes, with the help of the merchants, commissioned four more sloops with 10 guns and 80 crew and, after refitting another sloop in Port Royal and the arrival of the fifth-rate frigate HMS Ludlow Castle, divided his forces to protect the arriving merchantmen and hunt down Thompson. Four of the sloops soon cornered Thompson's ship, killed him and salvaged the Kingston. Some of the surviving crew members were captured to await trial in Bermuda, where they were found guilty and hanged in 1720.

December 12, 2022
Carina ran a hand threw her hair as she headed to lounge where she was told JJ and Jack had something for her, she assumed it had something to do with the christmas present shopping the two did that she overheard them talking about and she knew the two were doing it for a video.
She walked into the room pausing at seeing Owen having on a eye mask that says still dreaming on it, she shook her head not wanting to know.
She leaned against the wall out of the camera view waiting for Owen to finish opening his presents.
“This is the best Christmas ever.” Owen Power spoke smiling at the camera as he held all his presents and then walked out of the camera view.
“Knieeesyyyyy!” Jack Quinn cheered when he saw her standing there, “Come on, we have all your presents.” Jack gestured for her to come sit next to him in the empty couch.
“Here this is the first one.” JJ Peterka said as he tossed the smaller package to Carina, who quickly caught it and opened it and saw it was a bag of her favorite lemon candies.
“You found them?” Carina questioned looking at the two knowing how difficult it is to find her favorite lemon candy in Buffalo and she was glad to have got some.
JJ and Jack both nodded with proud smiles, Jack picked up the next present and tossed it her.
Carina started opening it, feeling it was very light and squishy, she opened it seeing a stuff animal lemon that has a little smiley face on it, it was honestly quite cute.
“I picked it out!” JJ piped up with a smile towards his favorite teammate, his smile widen seeing Carina nod at him and he knew it was of approval.
Jack picked up the last present gently handing it to her, “We thought it was a good travel size!” Jack commented as he watched her open the present.
Carina felt her lips twitch seeing they had got a mini pottery set, and they were correct it would be very easy to travel with. Carina couldn’t help it when her heart soften slight in fondness for the two as the gifts might seem small but they were very thoughtful.
“Thank you.” Carina looked at them and gave them a small smile, seeing their eyes widen and they both beamed seeing her smile at them.
Carina knew her teammates have a completion going on that restarts each season that each smile they get from her is one point and a laugh is two but it had to be off the ice. She knew they all loved trying to win the competition and she enjoyed it too.
Carina gave them one more nod before standing up and leaving the room.
JJ and Jack waited until she was out of the room to look at each other and started hollering as they just got another point each but more the fact they actually got her to smile at them off the ice.

I genuinely don't know why people say that we shouldn't hate on Thompson just because he's dead or didn't kill anyone directly. Thompson denied claims even when they were valid. We hate other people who kill (even if indirectly). People who hate Joseph Goebbels should probably hate Brian Thompson to some extent. They were both indirect killers and evil in nature. Thompson let people die for money and power, and so did Goebbels. Even if Goebbels was worse morally, they both did the same crime for the same motive, yet their power saved them.

A Not Very PC Feathursday
Author William Edgar Thompson’s use of Southern Black dialect in his self-published book Aunt Chloe and Her Birds, printed for the author by Kingsport Press in Kingsport, Tennessee in 1927, is extremely cringe-worthy, but apparently it was all the rage when it was published. A review of the 1928 second edition observes,
There is something about the negro dialect that fascinates children . . . nor do the children tire of them after they have ceased to be children. Mr. Thompson has taken this method of presenting his bird stories and has done so most successfully. . . . Mr. Thompson's excellent book should have a wide sale. It is not only interesting reading but educational as well and should do much good in spreading an interest in birds and their protection.
Yikes!
However, the book also includes eight excellent color bird illustrations supplied by the National Association of Audubon Societies, two by naturalist and artist Edmund Joseph Sawyer (1880-1971) and the rest by noted wildlife illustrator Robert Bruce Horsfall (1869 –1948). We could find nothing on Thompson except that he authored this book, and we would be curious to learn how the Audubon Society came to supply the illustrations. Each of the images is sub-captioned with one of Aunt Chloe’s folksy observations. We considered editing them out because we just find them uncomfortable, but instead of censoring, we decided to present them as they appear in their historical context. These quotes are quite tame compared to the dialogue in the book, some of which is unapologetically racist.
