Tiana Scrapped At Walt Disney Animation Studios Due High Production Costs, Holiday Special Being Produced Instead As Walt Disney Animation Studios Drops TV Series Approach With Disney Television Animation Taking Over Series Based On Their Films.
Back in December 2020, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced a approach of producing high budget TV series for the Disney+ service one of them was based on The Princess And The Frog with "Tiana" a series set after the events of the film.
The all-new adventures for this series would explore both Maldonia and Tiana’s beloved hometown, New Orleans.
However, since that initial announcement over five years ago, we’ve heard very little about the project, though Disney did confirm at last summer’s D23 Ultimate Fan Event that it was still moving ahead with the series. Today, THR has reported that Walt Disney Animation Studios has cancelled the “Tiana” series as part of the studio’s new strategy, which is moving away from making long-form original animated content for Disney+ a similar path that sister studio Pixar Animation Studios stated in 2024 following the release of "Dream Productions" and "Win Or Lose".
Additionaly a animated film slated for a Disney+ release was also scrapped at Walt Disney Animation Studios Vancouver.
This was previously hinted as a follow up series to "Win Or Lose" was in early development at Pixar with the project being reworked as new animated film slated for a theatrical release. The goal of both Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios for future animation projects is just focusing on theatrical animated films, television specials ("Toy Story Of Terror", "Toy Story That Time Forgot" "Olaf's Frozen Adventure") and short films than streaming series.
The reason of Tiana's cancelation was that despite the best efforts from the crew, including several changes to the creative team, "TIANA" ultimately could not get to where it needed to be given high production costs as the production.. Walt Disney Animation Studios is developing a holiday special based on "The Princess And The Frog" with Tiana's former showrunner Joyce Sherri attached as director and writer, and Stephen J. Anderson ("Meet The Robinsons") also directing.
Additionaly insiders mention that future TV shows based on Walt Disney Animation Studios IPs will be handled by the Disney Television Animation unit for Disney Channel and Disney+. There's unconfirmed rumblings at the Disney Branded Television unit of a potential Raya And The Last Dragon television series in development for Disney Channel.

Emprex's 10 Favorite Film Directors unranked
So I thought about this list a lot ,and these are the 10 directors that I have to say are favorites
Ishiro Honda -Truly an underrated director ,a maestro of science fiction filmmaking .Whatever project he was doing, and no matter what big creature he brought to the screen,I feel Honda never forgets the human side :My reccomendation to those getting into his filmography is Mothra vs Godzilla ,while my favorite is Mothra
Tumblr media
David Lynch -He made 10 movies,Ive seen 5 and love those 5.Known for favoring the abstract ,I follow the emotions of his work, and am intrigued by his mix of earnestness and darkness underneath .My reccomended starter film is Elephant Man ,favorite is Blue Velvet
Tumblr media
Coen Brothers -I need delve back into these guys cause I love their work .I love their dark humor ,their use of actors (They really know how to use John Goodman affectively ) and mix of the mundane and the violent .My reccomeded starter film is Oh Brother Where Art Thou ,my favorite is True Grit
Tumblr media
Alfred Hitchcock-Problematic favorite,I dont like him as a person but as a filmmaker,if a Hitchcock film is on I am probabbly going to watch it .I prefer his smaller films to his bigger films ,the smaller murder stories to large wronged man specticals .Good Starter is Rope ,favorite is Psycho
Tumblr media
Sidney Lumet -Always solid ,I think his strength is navigating ensambles and making it where if you are stuck in a certain location you never FEEL stuck or uses that claustrophobia to his advantage .Reccomendation is 12 Angry Men while my favorite is Murder on the Orient Express
Tumblr media
Mel Brooks :What I love about Mel Brooks's comedy is there is both a love for and understanding of whatever hes making fun of.The filmmaking is authentic which makes when something rediculous happens even funnier . Roccomend Spaceballs as a starter ,but my favorite is the Producers
Tumblr media
Steven Spielberg-I mean this guy has one of the most versetile filmographies of any filmmaker. Now with a filmography spanning 50 years there are a lot of hits and misses ,and I am more familiar with his crowd pleasers then his more dramtic work ,that said he knows HOW TO MAKE A CROWD PLEASER ! Reccomendation I would say Duel ,and favorite is ET
Tumblr media
Guillermo Del Toro:Known for his loves of monsters ,tales of outcasts and casting Doug Jones and Ron Perlman a lot , Ive seen most of his films which are both intelligent and visually splendid .I find it funny some call him a horror director cause hes not ,I guess his films are horror adjacent but its more, hes a monster director ,using monsters to tell love stories ,super hero tales ,and fairy tales with backdrops of the horrors of fascism .Now my reccomendation for a starter has to be Hellboy ,favorite is a bit harder so I'll go with Pinocchio
Tumblr media
John Carpenter -While known mostly for horror ,I view Carpenter as just a great genre filmmaker in general ,his films have a definitive feel though, you always know when your watching Carpenter but he is pretty good at whatever topic hes handlingbe it action ,comedy, romance ,satirical sci fi ,martial arts fantasy and especially all consuming horror .Reccomendation is Halloween, favorite is Big Trouble in Little China
Tumblr media
John Musker and Ron Clements:I wanted to have some animation representation ,and I frankly think this duo are the best while weirdly being underrated ,with some of the best films by Disney animation ,being directed by this duo .Reccomendated starter has to be Little Mermaid ,but my favorite is the Great Mouse Detective
Tumblr media
So what are you guys thoughts of my director choices ?Are any of these surprising?

Princess Tiana Voice Actress Anika Noni Rose Speaks Out On TIANA Series Cancelation: “Deeply Disappointed”, Encourages Fans To Tune For New Special
Anika Noni Rose is breaking her silence over Disney’s decision earlier this month not to scrap TIANA, an animated musical series offshoot of The Princess and the Frog movie set for Disney+ by Walt Disney Animation Studios. First announced in December 2020, the project was expected to feature Rose reprising her role as Tiana from the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog, which revolved around Disney’s first Black princess.
However Anika encourages fans of The Princess And The Frog to tune in for the upcoming holiday special where the majority of the TIANA crew moved on with former showrunner Joyce Sherri and Meet The Robinsons director Stephen Anderson as directors, producers and writters.
instagram
“Last week an announcement was made regarding the cancellation of the series, Tiana,” she began in a statement shared on Instagram. “I’ve been getting loads of messages expressing kindness, support and overwhelming disappointment.” “I too am deeply disappointed that the continuation of Tiana’s journey in series form has been cut short,” adding that the highly anticipated series adaptation had been a “long time coming” and involved “a lot of beautiful work was put into it by all the creatives involved.” “As hurtful as it is for anything you’ve put your heart and soul in to be prematurely ended, my hope is that when what is now to be a ‘Tiana Special Event’ airs that all of your beautiful, loving, loyal fans who’ve been championing not just the series, but a Princess And The Frog sequel, tune in,” she continued. “And when I say tune in, I mean, tell your friends, family, coworkers, babysitters, tell all the people you know who have loved Princess Tiana, Naveen, Louis, Charlotte, Mama Odie, and the magic they’ve created over the years and make sure you are watching. Show your love and desire in the numbers. Make that desire an undeniable and real thing.” She adds: “Until then, we will be continuing to work hard to bring you the most beautiful content we can.”
Disney's choice of scrapping the series comes as the feature animation unit would not move forward with high budget animated series only focusing on movies, shorts and specials. Insiders within the company mention that the Disney Television Animation unit will be handling future animated series based on Walt Disney Animation Studios IPs starting with a potential Raya and The Last Dragon project for the Disney Channel being in rumbling talks within the Ayo Davis lead unit.
