Regular and Recurring LGBTQIA+ Characters in series on TV & Streaming Video
These are characters who have first appeared or been revealed as LGBTQIA+ during the 2022/23 season, or whom I’ve recently learned about or whom I hadn’t mentioned in previous posts of this type (that is, on my old blog). Needless to say, this list is also highly arbitrary and incomplete.
Netflix
Shadow and Bone
Wylan Hendriks (portrayed by Jack Wolfe)
Merlí: Sapere Aude
Pol Rubio (portrayed by Carlos Cuevas)
Bruno Bergeron (portrayed by David Solans)
Ángel (portrayed by Carlos Índriago)
Axel (portrayed by Jordi Coll)
Dino (portrayed by Eusebio Poncela)
Half Bad / The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself
Nathan Byrne (portrayed by Jay Lycurgo)
Gabriel Boutin (portrayd by Emilien Vekemans)
Locke & Key
Brian Rogan (portrayed by Milton Barnes)
Continuing the tradition from my old blog (which has been unceremoniously deleted by tumblr without much of an explanation why) I’m doing daily posts during June to celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride by showcasing openly LGBTQIA+ celebrities and various content about or created by LGBTQIA+ people such as music videos, characters on TV shows, movie trailers, …

For centuries, clogs were the most common shoe for peasants in many parts of Europe and some other parts of the world. Clogs are shoes made of one single piece of wood that protects the foot from humidity outside, making them good for working in the fields or walking through mud or snow.
Here in Catalonia, the most common shoes were usually espadrilles (espardenyes), but wooden clogs (esclops) were also very common in winter. Catalan clogs were made of pine tree wood or poplar wood, which was then smoked to protect the wood. There were artisans who specialized in making them, but ordinary farmer families in the countryside would also make their own. People stopped using clogs around the 1950s, when mass produced rubber rainboots/Wellingtons arrived. Then, clog makers had to close their shops, and most of them moved to work in factories or in building work.
Nowadays, there are very few clog makers in Catalonia. Until a few years ago, the person in Catalonia whose job was making clogs was Jordi Coll, who died in 2009. He had been a clog maker in his youth until clog shops closed, but he started again in his old age. Now, there is another one: the man in the photos included in this post is Josep Pratdesaba, who grew up in a farmhouse in Taradell (Central Catalonia). He explains that all the family used to meet every evening around the fireplace in the kitchen, where each person would do the personal work they had to do, including making clogs. Now, he makes clogs in his free time and goes to fairs and festivals to make them and talk about it to the public, where elderly people explain the anecdotes of when they used to wear them and the young children watch with amazement how he turns a log into a shoe.

(Wander for a whole night through Toledo,
drunk and in complete solitude
go to the city once a year
do not wash during these days
Love Toledo above all things
Watch over the tomb of Cardinal Tavera)
(One night, very late and snowing, while we were strolling, Ugarte and I suddenly heard the voices of children singing the multiplication tables. From time to time the voices were interrupted and there was giggling and the deep voice of the teacher. Then the singing continued. Leaning on my friend's shoulders, I managed to pull myself up to a window; but the voices stopped abruptly and I could see nothing but darkness and hear nothing but silence)
(Another night, the sisters Ernestina and María Luisa González and the constable, were waiting for the nuns of a convent to sing their songs at two in the morning, they saw two figures prowling. They were sitting on a corner bench, smoking, talking low and blowing kisses. On the second or third turn, the prowlers cautiously approached, Buñuel got up and took out the pistol he carried.
<<What do you want?>> <<We are police officers>> <<Let's see the license plates.>><<Like these. And, now, give me that gun.>><< I have a license. See it.>><< Okay, but let's go to the police station. >>
In the police station, the commissioner asks the guards what they brought; they answered:
<<Well... these... they were kissing this young man and they were smoking... >> <<There are many young ladies today who smoke and kiss each other –answered the commissioner good-naturedly. >>
The constable and his friends were able to follow their romantic pilgrimages.)

The whump is in the details…
His tired eyes and labored breathing as he talks (first GIF)
The squint of pain you’d almost miss (second GIF)
The way he tries to hold his bravado in front of the mother who’s son did this to him, and only gives in to the pain as she leaves (third & forth GIF)
The way his hand flops as he falls unconscious from the pain of trying to stand up (fifth to eighth GIF)
The small backwards step he takes as the person who did this to him walks towards him (if you watch this, his breathing gets more labored with a slight kneeing sound… ugh), and then the legs giving out just as that person leaves.
Bonus: The oversized green sweater :)
All beautiful scenes of Gonzalo (played by Jordi Coll) from the Spanish series El secreto de Puente Viejo episodes 713 to 720.
GIF set of what got him in this state can be found here.
