Swings by with another stray tumblr update! Something I finished months ago in May -- this art of Bastet was meant to be something 'quick' (lol--) to practice the style I used for my Artfight 2024 Attacks. But I also drew it because the kitty goddess had been overdue for more up-to-date artwork to use for her profiles.

I’m currently more active on my Bluesky account, and updating the project site gradually. In fact, I’ve just finished archiving the first 100 askbox responses there, with more on the way for those feeling nostalgic. Otherwise, I’ll continue to update the project blog on tumblr when I can, thank you all for sticking around!

bluesky is honestly so nice and wholesome. the communities there reminds me a lot of tumblrs, i’ve really felt at home 🥹 my bluesky

some of the unique things i’ve liked:

- moderation lists: massive human made blocklists. they have lists for MAGAs, Nazis, genAI users/posters, NFT bros, spammers bots etc. truly amazing.

- starter packs: again human made lists of people they recommend to follow. there’s so many starter packs, from artist to follow, musicians, writers, even shitposters lmao.

- feeds: customizable, public timelines. you can create your own or join one of the thousands of feeds out there. you can also create a feed just for your art, so if you have a messy media tab, it keeps your art posts clean and organized!!

- blocking/muting: they have an amazing blocking system. when you block they can’t see your posts or even search you o. the site. they also allow you to mute people, delete specific replies, and even let you detach your post from a quote reblog if they’re trying to cause drama. honestly the best for a drama free environment. they also have very nice post filters so you can mute or completely block posts containing specific words or phrase!

- community: after blocking all the moderation lists it really just seems like a nice oasis for artists, creatives and others to connect with each other and get new followings. i’ve had a lot of people discover my art there and immediate support. it was super sweet.

- NSFW: not really something i like but i know a lot of others will; they allow NSFW content, art and otherwise. They have GREAT moderation so if you’re not interested in seeing those types of post be sure to turn on your content moderation settings.

We're all stories in the end.

**clears throat** I've told this story elsewhere (tw: cancer, death), but I'm going to tell it again, for reasons. My mom was responsible for my love of reading and books. She took me to the library. She pretty much never said no when I asked for a book at the bookstore. She loved reading.

At some point, she just stopped reading. I don't know why. I don't know if she was too busy or too stressed or what. But when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she was very active--until she wasn't. She was not good at sitting still, ever. And then, she had to.

She felt like hell, and she was bored. So, one day, she asked me for a book--something I loved that I thought she might like. I pulled @neil-gaiman's Neverwhere off my shelf and handed it to her. I told her that it was my favorite Neil book (don't make me pick a fav now, haha).

She absolutely tore through that book, utterly delighted. She loved it. Reading it reignited her love of reading in a way I was, and still am, immensely grateful for. We spent the last year of her life swapping books back in forth. Reading made that year better for her. And me.

So, if you ever wonder if your stories matter, if the book/short stories/poems you are writing make a difference? Remember this. Because they absolutely do, in ways you can know and ways that you can't. Keep writing. The world needs your brilliant bit of weird.

A list of things that didn’t make it into Masculine Pursuits, on account of it was already Really Fucking Long:

The first person to blow their secret is actually Alan. Violet corners him and demands to know why Edwin is looking at him Like That. Alan makes the reasonable choice to admit to the foursome (unverifiable as an invisible intangible purple dragon in your garage) rather than fess up to being the Roman (ten years of public evidence, a warrant will turn up unpublished drafts).

Violet of course chats about this with both Jack and Maud. Jack, knowing that Robin will always be honest with his little sister, takes it upon himself to intervene with Maud before she can inflict the most uncomfortable conversation known to man on both herself and her brother. They still talk about it, obviously, but Jack deals with any gory details she tries to ask for and makes some suggestions about which dogs to just fucking let lie. Perils of sharing a friend group with your sibling! Sometimes you get up to sex party shenanigans and you just really don’t actually need your sister to know that you know what all your friends' junk looks like! It’s good to be honest, it’s also good to have boundaries about what sorts of questions you ask!

Robin is responsible for fessing up to Adelaide, though. She’s his wife, she’s still his typist, she runs his calendar, by proxy she half-runs Edwin’s calendar, and god was she upset by the idea of a ��little get together” with “just the boys” before it was clarified that this was a sex thing rather than a sexism thing. It was a brief moment of fear that the friend group’s male contingent had gone off the deep end, but it was a very intense brief moment of fear.

On the night of the foursome the girls get together at Spinet House and… drink whiskey and smoke cigars. Maud’s not very good at it and it’s very cute. Maybe they switch to wine because whiskey is Terrible, Actually. Probably Violet blows a lot of very impressive smoke rings (that might just be illusion magic). No threesome because that’s not Addy’s bag but they do have a very nice time. Maybe Kitty is also there? I like Kitty so I say yes.

(Incidentally if I were to write a foursome with the women it would be Maud/Violet/Polly/Phyllis. I bet Polly can still Get It and am Interested in the kind of weirdo MILF domme that Phyllis-the-ancient-fey-hermit would likely be. Imagine the things that Maud and Violet can learn from those two ladies! Imagine Maud and Violet introducing them to the latest DevicesTM!)

In amidst the negotiations about sex Jack finds a bit of time to ask Robin how to go about telling Alan and Edwin that he’s going to buy them a small publishing house. He doesn’t want to hear their stupid conversations about grammar, but he does support their bordering on Marxist politics re: deciding that what magical Britain really needs more of is pamphlets supporting servant’s/gardener’s/women’s magic first and refusing to explain anything that can be easily turned to violence or control. He’s also (rightly) convinced that both Alan and Edwin will be mad at him for solving their censorship problems by throwing money at them. 

Alan absolutely does get to interview Robin about his past sexual adventures, which could theoretically turn into a whole series of Roman books. Edwin is a little bit surprised at exactly how much Robin downplayed the volume of his past sexual experiences, but of course, Robin isn’t lying when he says that a high volume doesn’t mean much in terms of quality. Future Roman novels include, of course, “a bloody-nosed boxing blowjob”, “gangbangs in the change rooms”, "sadomasochistic hazing", and “highly sexually charged initiation rituals”. Robin is delighted by the flights of fancy Alan takes in these books, and resists Alan’s desire to have any blatant implausibilities revised out before publication.

My wife and I debated at length about how much sexual experience Edwin had before Robin. Eventually I came around to her way of thinking: aside from the canonical mentions of furtive boarding school and university encounters, there was a period after his relationship with Jack where Edwin decides that he, you know, misses sexual contact/physical contact generally, and goes through a Sad Handjobs In Bathhouses Phase. He never really gets the hang of the nonverbal communication required for much more, but he does manage the Subtle Longing Stare often enough to get the occasional furtive handie.

there's gonna be a lot of essays suddenly

so Cohost dot org, one of the newer soc med sites that was a mix of tumblr and twidder, made an announcement about shutting down today and I'm very much devastated by it. It wasn't a perfect site (there's been tons of convo as of late regarding the site's racism problems), but it had such strong and promising intentions as a site founded by queer folks in tech. It was where I found the most thoughtful people on the internet, and even found new friends! I was especially comfortable posting essays on there about broader topics (not just superhero metas) but with the site shutting down, I want to archive those thoughts somewhere safe. Tumblr's the only true blogging space that I use left (I know there's Pillowfort but I've had my criticisms of that site already), so I will be cross-posting some of those essays here.

I've noticed especially after my Caped Crusader essay dropped that people have been really enjoying reading and revisiting my metas, so for people who enjoy that- this is great news for you! Haha.

I replied to one post on Twitter and oh my fucking god I see why everyone is leaving. All I said was that Husk isn’t as innocent as some portray him, and that he made the conscious decision to sell his soul to save his power. That’s it. And then some chucklefuck hit me with the classic “WhaT abOut AngEl? aRe yoU juStiFying ValenTino tHen?” They keep bringing their headcanons into it, too…like, SHOW ME the scene where Alastor uses Husk’s addiction to manipulate him into the deal. Oh, right, it doesn’t fucking exist. Husk was ALREADY losing everything, no help needed.

Sorry for the rant, but I needed to say it ONE MORE TIME.

A lot of early concept stuff was expression/pose brainstorming - there’s the classic six Webkinz emotions (which, I learned have been largely pared down to just four after a point! Since they got rid of Dr. Quack’s role, there’s no more “sick” expression and most ‘Kinz’ tired and sad expressions are the same! >:0 What’s the point of having an easily editable puppet with the spaghetti code intact that you have to put an image there AnyWay and not make a slightly different expression!! H’f) as well as the main Sakura poses - so if I’m already making up expressions, why no go a little further! :D

One of the expressions I definitely needed up top was Mischievous - working with a cat, that’s the only logical conclusion really. I think it’s funny that she swerves the compliment only to pay it right back as well lol

The ticklish expression is one I’m still going back and forth on! I’m half tempted to have it be somewhere between happy and angry - maybe a mood gradient, starting out just positive and slowly moving into “Hey stop! >:0″ if it’s too many times in a row? It’s a thought haha

Similarly so, messing with her ears - bothering your pets is a very important element of socialization (lol)

As seen above, I’d reallyyy like to figure a way to have a dual-visual mood system - both the ‘Kinz body language/expression/emotion and a more exact stat bar. I’m still chewing on this idea a bit, no pun intended lol. That and click-and-drag with an actual image you can drag around your screen, hm and hm! Much to think about. Her face here turned out cute and funny haha, helped me push the expression more comedic

Much better :) Webkinz already has some well-known food dialogue, my favourite is probably “Mmm to the mmmax!” haha

Each low-mood would have their own emotion tied to it, but what about somewhere in the middle? I like the idea of the ‘Kinz getting bored if they’re left alone for too long! And little paw taps, showing off her embroidered paw pad haha ♪
