i'm gonna use this to rant about Atlas. His FULL name is Atlas Mar Rosewood. but a friend calls him "Mars" which created an effect where everyone forgets its not plural. also, like, huge fucking two and cw for Alas' past this man has seen some SHIT. His mother's name was Marilyn Rosewood, and it referred to as "Ms. Rose" or "Atlas' mother" or "The rosewood's mom" After telling Friends about her I've gotten things like "can we kill her", "i'm going to switch realities to kill her(from someone who doesn't believe in switching realities, you know who you are)" and "I hate her(scowling)". And your about to see why! Atlas is 29, born Jan 6 1995. He had a twin, named Azrail, born the same day (duh). Az was older by a few minutes and teased Atlas about it. May 28th, 2006, age 11, Azrail went missing. It's flashback time baby!
Mom - Mother? she likes that one more - called us inside. Dinner was ready. Az told me he was going to stay outside. That he wanted to grab something to show Mother. I nodded quickly, running over to the front door, trying to not trip over the uneven land. Moon light briefly seeping in as I closed the door behind. Mom in our kitchen with Nora on her hip. Smelled like stew. I took a sit across from Hecate, who was doing some sort of color by number. Mother poured a bowl, setting it on the table with an unpleasent clank. An extra for Az. I reached for my bowl but she smacked my hand away.
"Where's your brother?" She asked, voice rough. I knew that tone.
"I-I… Outside, Ma'am. He s-said he needed to grab something," I stuttered, ashamed of my own voice.
"Go grab him, boy. We are saying prayer tonight," Mother scowled. Tone cutting through the kitchen. It grabbed Hecate's attention, perking her head up. I saw Mom open her mouth, presumably to scold her as her eyes glazed over the paper. Hecate didn't need that. Didn't deserve that.
"I'll go get him!" I yelled in a happy tone, distracting from Hecate.
"You better."
I didn't need to be told twice, knowing what she'd do if I didn't. Quickly hopping out of my seat and rushing out the door, trying to not slam it. Frantically looking around outside. Moonlight hard to follow but just enough to see footprints. "There he is!" I thought happily, following the tracks. They lead to a dead end, with Az no where. "Az!" I yelled out. "If this is a prank, its not funny!" My voice fell on dead ears, no reply to come. Only suffocating silence. And he liked silence! Darkness and fuzzy vision making it hard to make out anything. Trees looking like figures and an owl's screech in the background. "Since when did we have owls?" I asked myself. Like expected, nothing but me.
I got frantic, searching everywhere I could see. "Az!" I yelled out loud as I could, hurting my throat in the process. I couldn't focus on that now. "Az! Where are you?!" I yelled, dashing around but all there was, was silence that seemed to wrap around me tighter with each screech. Whether it be the owls, or mine. "What am I gonna tell Mother?" I thought to myself, furrowing my brows. "She's gonna kill me!"
Looking around more frantically, desperate to find him. "Az! Az, please! Where are you Azrail?!" Cries that sounded more like pleas the longer they went on. That stupid owl screeching on like it was its job.
I kept searching, wanting to find him. Needing to find him. I don't know how long I was searching for. Until I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. Praying it wasn't Mom and her angry face, and luckily, it was dad.
"Dad!" I exclaimed, wrapping my arms around his waist.
"Hey, kiddo. Mom said you were looking for your brother, yeah?"
"Mhm," I hummed, stuffing my face in his shirt and getting it wet. "I-I can't find…." I sniffled, words interbroken by sharp breaths and sniffles. "M-moms gonna k-kil m-m-me, isn't s-she?"
"Mhm, maybe," Dad hummed. "But I'll make sure to fix you up," he pinched my check as he spoke and I giggled, batting his hand away. "I think I still have some of those band-aids you like. The ones that are real soft and have the fun characters on them?"
"Yeah," I sighed, wiping away tears and trying to look fine. "I like those band-aids."
"I know you do," he teased a little, poking me. "Let's get inside then, hm?"
I nodded happily, "Yeah."
He led me inside by the hand, pushing open the door as moonlight seeped through, quickly.
"Where is your brother?" Mother demanded.
"Outside, I think. I can't find him, been looking the whole time I was out there," I said, trying to not stutter.
"Well, find him then." She stepped closer.
"I tried!" I insisted. "I tried! He wasn't there!"
"I said find him!" Mother yelled, her hand coming down too quickly for me to react, the sound echoing though the room as she hit me. Pain spearing out as I held my face, biting my tongue.
She soothed out her hair, pushing back little hairs and sighing. "Get up."
I stood shakily, cupping my hands together. "Yes ma'am?"
"Sit."
Pulling out the wooden chair and hearing it scrap against the floor, the sound seems so much louder in the silence. My hands shook violently as I sat down.
"Eat."
"What about Az?" I asked, pulling the bowl towards me.
She shot me a glare and I shut up.
How eventful, dontcha think? (I wrote this on a whim- pls help) After this, physical abuse became more and more frequent and more violent. With his mother, Marilyn, screaming about how useless he is and how he can't do anything right, aswell as trying to distance him from others. 5 months after Azrail's disappearance, October 15th 2006, she began SA'ing him and would frequently try to leave bruises on him. As well as manipulating him and gaslighting, denying him things and support he needed and starving him. Going as far to make degrading comments on his body and things like him not having a lot of muscle mass (lady your starving him- what did you expect?) and would push him to the point of fainting in PE and got mad when he didn't do well. At age 15 in 2010 and June, his mother sent him to a conversion camp cause she suspected him of being gay. The conversion camp fucked him up even more between physical abuse, SA, and even more religious trauma than he already had. She still didn't think it worked and so next, Atlas, age 16, was sent to conversion therapy this time. Again, coming back worse with bad mental health. After induring the most phyical abuse he ever has in one year, age 17, his mother kicked him out of the house.
He went to live with Zey, his friend, who readily accepted him. He lived with Zey until he was roughly 19-21.
And! After what he mother did, he still has EVEN MORE trauma from other people!

Ok ok okokok so fun fact about me: I like to sit with lore from different media and ask the Questions, right? Like my first date with my husband was rewriting the sequel trilogy for Star Wars because we liked the concept of Rey, Kylo, and Finn, but we didn't like the execution. I enjoy looking at things and thinking of how to tell compelling stories within the constraints of said universe.
And tiktok just reminded me that Harry Potter exists. Specifically, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And the dumbass plot of "If we don't stop Grindelwald, then WWII can't happen :/" and all it's implications.
Now I haven't written HP fanfiction in a while, but the muses are singing softly and I feel the urge to write about a young witch/wizard risking the secret of the magical world to help their neighbors flee the gestapo and the aurors caught between helping and arresting them.

One day I will stop looking up triggering things on the internet I promise
#it was jkr this time folksssss#she has got so much louder and more vitriolic#I think my most unpopular opinion is that the whole ‘you should die’ and ‘violence upon ye’ stuff made things worse#not saying she deserved to have her views supported bc holy shit. even that first essay was full of inconsistencies and false info#plus it was pretty infantilising about ftm trans people#who I notice she rarely discusses#the whole thing was a mess but written prettily enough to appeal to some people but that is a topic that’s been covered#anyway my point is that I can see that a natural conclusion to seeing people baying for blood is to run in the other direction#and I just bet all the terms were rubbing their little terf hands together in glee#you know that post about cults and cult adjacent religions and churches?#the one that talked about how these people send new recruits to knock on doors to make them feel othered and alienated#and how that sets them up perfectly to put themselves in the position of protector and comforter etc#yeah I think about that in relation to terfs and jkr A Lot#of course jkr has a fuck ton of privileges due to the whole money thing#but she didn’t always have that and she is pretty clearly not worked through the trauma she’s experienced at the hands of men#so yeah#I may be wrong but I sure do wonder about it#also I hope this doesn’t come off as being a jkr apologist bc Ew.#whether or not it was avoidable doesn’t matter when the reality is that she’s consistently causing harm#having free will means that when you’re being a dick it’s your responsibility#and if it’s your responsibility then you need to work on that and make a genuine apology tour instead of digging your heels in#or blaming it entirely on your circumstances for that matter#if jkr were to get out of the terf cult now and cited the same reasons I think things got this bad she’d still have to make big steps#towards fixing what she broke and apologising for her behaviour#and also she would need to learn to be okay with not being forgiven by everyone#I doubt it’ll happen though. she’s in pretty feckin deep

I love reading other people’s head canons. They may not initially make sense to me and how I see the character, but the person has thought so much about it that I automatically start trying to apply it and see what pieces I can fit into my version.
It’s just so beautiful how our collective imagination has taken the soggy story the jkr terf came up with and made it into something so much better than she ever could have. Like these characters who she just gave names and nothing else we’ve created into these fully fledged ideas that we would actually die for.

What do you think about Remus naming Harry as Teddy's godfather.
We know because harry is the narrator that he isn't anywhere close to Tonks. And the baby is both of theirs. Why would Tonks want a person she doesn't know to be the godfather of her child???
Is it jkr's favouritism showing once again where she wants to show Remus mending bridges with harry by dangling the carrot in front of harry.
In fact i don't see any deeper bond between them.
Why nit the Weasley parents who have so much experience.or any of the professors from school. Or bill and fluer etc. So many options. Harry being godfather at 17 is the most stupid choice seeing the life he has lived....
Canonically, the scene where Remus names Harry godfather flows very chaotically. Remus comes in, declares he's had a boy they're naming Ted after Dora's father, hugs Harry, asks him if he'd like to be godfather, Harry (who until exactly 0.2 seconds ago was thinking of how Remus tried to abandon his wife before yeeting Harry into a wall a few months ago) is, unsurprisingly, caught off-guard. "Dora quite agrees, no one better-" Remus goes on to state about the seventeen year old being hunted across the country by the deadliest terrorist ever faced by Wizarding Britain. Harry, whose brain finally catches up with him, agrees at long last.
Notably, throughout this entire sequence, Harry still calls Remus 'Lupin' and is, for the most part, surprised because he clearly never expected this. You may argue that Sirius became godfather when he wasn't much older, but the person who named him was Sirius' age, not old enough to be his father. Sirius' best friend asked Sirius to be his son's guardian, Remus and Harry don't have anything close to that level of emotional regard for each other or closeness and dependability. After Harry meets Sirius, it's Sirius he reaches out to repeatedly, and Remus even then, is quite happy to wash his hands off of him. This again, is not Remus' fault. He's under no obligation to look after his dead friend's kid, but it's very clear that there exists no deep and abiding bond between Harry and Remus. They're friends, they exist in the same circles, Harry cares deeply for Sirius and thinks the world of his father, who Remus was close friends with in school, and that's about the extent of their relationship.
So, obviously, Remus naming Harry instead of any adult friend he'd made is quite ridiculous. (This again, brings me to how Remus seems to have stagnated in life. He doesn't seem to have moved on much from the night everyone died, not made any friends despite there being an intervening twelve years before Sirius escapes, he briefly comes back to life when Sirius is around, and falls in love with Dora, but then they both die too. Whilst the fandom talks a lot about how Sirius never got to grow up cause of Azkaban, it never talks about how Remus seems unwilling to move on despite, essentially, not being in prison for entire twenties, but that's a conversation for a different day.)
This is not one of those instances where an oblivious narrator gets something that they always deserved but never really considered, its a clear instance of the author not knowing how tf they're going to deepen this relationship now that Harry and Remus are all that is left from the old Marauders' glory and Harry's family.
Now, I believe, perhaps a bit controversially, that Remus made Harry godfather because that's the closest he could get to making James godfather. It had little to do with Harry, and more to do with trying to reach James vicariously through Harry. Perhaps even an apology for blasting James' kid into a wall for talking sense into him.
Either way, there is nothing in canon that suggests that Harry and Remus have the deep kind of bond that would inspire Remus to ask such a question of him. Again, perhaps the first time Harry ever calls him ‘Remus’ is when he’s dead. And it’s really quite ridiculous that JKR even wrote him in along with James, Lily and Sirius. It’s an undeserved position, but I digress.
Like you said, there were multiple alternatives who would have been better suited for the task, (though I doubt he could have asked his old school teachers, I maintain that Ted and Andy, as grandparents, would have been the best guardians if Remus and Tonks were to fall.) and these alternatives, would have been, if Remus was capable of trying for it, perhaps good friends to him as well. Considering we have no canonical proof of Remus ever uh, making friends in the Order, Harry becomes the default option as Remus doesn't really have anyone else.

I’m copy-editing my book on the first #LGBTQ (gay/ #trans) rights movement, circa 1900-1933. It begins with hope for a new century. It ends with Nazis. And it looks like 2000-2023, with an election to determine if our remaining ten years will bend toward justice or #fascism. INTERMEDIARIES, May 2025
The book tracks 4 things, which intersect in ways profound and political. 1. discovery of hormones and the idea that “sex” was a moving target 2. discovery of genes and subsequent rise of eugenics 3. The first gay rights movement 4. A campaign against women, gays and Jews that became Nazi fascism.
It required deep dive into Berlin archives, which occurred in the midst of covid and Russian invasion of Ukraine. It meant translating and hunting down ephemera, it required the good offices of many researchers, academic and non academic, to help compile the most comprehensive and accurate account
It saw the retrieval of a lost story—that of Dora Richter, the first to ever undergo gender affirmation surgery—and then! The discovery that she did not die in the Nazi purge. She is—was—remains: the girl who lived. (Take that, JKR.) It has been the hardest book I’ve ever written. I spent more than my first advance just gathering all the resources, I went quite literally into debt for it. But I hope it will also be the best book I’ve written so far.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about Percy! What is your opinion on him in general? Do you like how his character arc was handled by JKR? What are your thoughts on popular fandom takes about Percy (him being a terrible disgrace to the Weasley family for siding with the Ministry/Voldemort; him being a secret hero of the rebellion who deserved better; etc)? And your thoughts on Percy ships? Who, if anyone, do you ship him with?
I think he’s wicked awesome and way too hated, I will genuinely defend him with my life. If my family treated me that badly I’d tell them to fuck off too, he was literally so excluded from his family because he wasn’t some Quidditch-loving jock and actually preferred to study and stay indoors. And he got mocked consistently just because he wanted a bright future. Sure he may appear a bit stuck-up to those who don’t know him well, but his family?? Plus after he legitimately got the job of his dreams, his father’s immediate reaction was to tell him he didn’t actually earn it and that it was all just a ploy. I would actually be so hurt. Like sure Arthur did end up being right, BUT YOU COULD’VE SAID IT A BIT DIFFERENTLY?? A simple “you earned it anyway, son” or “I’m proud of you” would’ve sufficed, alongside an explanation of why Percy MIGHT have gotten the job. He went about it way too harshly, if I got shut down like that after getting the job I’ve been working for my whole life, I’d have done a lot worse.
And I totally get Percy’s resentment, he felt as though his father wasn’t reaching his full potential due to his proud showcase of Muggle-fangirling. And since he (Arthur) was basically the sole provider in a large family that lived in poverty, I can see why Percy would feel frustration towards his father. Plus why do people act as if Percy was always “so horrible” even before he “abandoned” his family? He literally went RUSHING to Ronald when he got out of the lake in GoF and refused to let go of him, and he loved Ginny to death. He was protective of his younger siblings and was pretty funny imo, it’s hard not to sympathise with him when he has siblings like Fred and George.
He genuinely deserved so much better, he was constantly shut down for his accomplishments and cared so much for his siblings despite their mocking, plus he still came back to apologise to them and then proceeded to see his baby brother die in front of him????? How could you hate him after DH?? I don’t think he’s a disgrace to his family at all, sure he was shitty to Molly but, with what he must’ve been going through at the time, I get it. And any resentment he felt towards his family was completely and utterly justified. Plus he literally apologised, so even if you disagree with what I’m saying and think he’s scum or whatever, he legit still apologised to them? He still redeemed himself? Whatever he’s supposedly done that you hate him for, he redeemed himself for it. And I feel like people forget how young Percy was when all this happened? He’s only like 4 years older than Harry and was still 18/19 when all the family drama occurred, and he held a huge responsibility in the ministry. And having grown up as the lone middle child with the burden of knowing his family isn’t respected much must’ve had a tremendous influence on someone as ambitious as Perce. People should really see things from his perspective sometimes. Imo the only genuinely shitty things he’s done is 1. his treatment of Molly 2. his letter to Ron about Harry (but even then, I completely understand why Percy said what he said), anything other than that is usually just exaggerated by his haters.
One character he’s always reminded me of is Alex Dunphy from Modern Family (*tries to summon Modern Family fans*), she was also the odd one out in her family because she was super studious and introverted. And she had a desperate need to prove herself and was very ambitious, much like Perce. Her meltdowns and extreme studying was treated as a joke to the viewers and her sister Haley constantly made fun of her for it. She reminds me a lot of him tbh, which is why I love both characters so much.
lol this was supposed to be a quick short ask explaining why I love him and who I ship him with, and it resulted in a whole rant 😭 that’s usually how I get whenever his name gets brought up. Also Nonnie, I ship Percy with Oliver :D and I think he and Penelope Clearwater really deserved more screentime, they were such a delightful couple imo.
And thanks for the ask btw, I missed talking about him!!

Fuck you for using Against Me, a band fronted by a trans woman, specifically a song about being trans unashamedly, to make a post about an IP owned by a woman who wants us dead. Please do educate yourself on this instead of blindly hiding behind the excuse of separate the art from the artist when the artist is using profits from the art to lobby for laws that make children kill themselves. Go fuck yourself also
Hi. Thank you for your comment. I think what you’re saying is incredibly important and your anger is justified, but misdirected. Please believe me when I say I am sorry for how that post can look. It can be misinterpreted and I should have thought about that and made the context more clear. I am myself non binary, an avid LGBTQ+ and trans rights activist, an Against Me!-fan and a literary scholar, so I hope you take me at my word: I do not support JKR WHAT SO FUCKING EVER. I’d say she should go to hell, but not even hell deserves shit like her.
As such, I should have recognised how references to the HP universe are triggering and can be read as supportive of the author. My post, however, was intended as a reference to the Maurauders universe, a spin-off universe based on fan-writings by independent creators, whereof the ones I follow are openly opposed to Rowling’s despicable actions and opinions.
I believe the Marauders-fandom is heavily influenced by people like myself - queer kids who grew up loving HP, only to have that joy broken and spat upon when JKR showed her true colours. I personally find it healing to read fan made Marauders-works that include and celebrate diversity - in ethnicities, religion, class, disabilities, body types and, perhaps most importantly, gender identities and -expressions.
So when I say I think Sirius Black would’ve loved Against Me! and Laura, I’m referring to a fan made, queer & gender nonconforming kid from the 70’s (and I take immense pleasure in how that would piss JKR right off). Laura’s battle with self destruction and gender is something I believe that version of Sirius would find strength in, just as I and many other trans people have.
I do not believe in separating the art from the artist. I do, however, enjoy the act of taking back something that has been made hurtful and turning it into something healing and joyful again. Now, whether we agree on that or not is a different discussion - but either way, I love your anger. We SHOULD be angry. I myself am pretty fucking furious, so I’m right here with you.
Tl;dr:
JKR is trash, I hope the thought of gender non conforming Sirius haunts her nightmares. May all TERFs choke and die.
Best regards, Robin ✨

what would the doctors visits tom apparently endured have been like? what if he had been institutionalized as he apparently feared? what would have happened to him?
Sorry this took a little while! I had to do some research for this because I'm not super familiar with healthcare from this period.
This is potentially triggering for ppl who are neurodiverse or experience mental/chronic conditions as I'm discussing outdated language and treatments, some which are still prevalent today despite medical suggestion. So after the first part on general healthcare, I'm going to put the rest as hidden.
From what I can gather, general healthcare (like doctors) were largely free for working men, but that left women, children, the unemployed and homeless without. This also means Tom. Tom would've likely been treated, if he ever got ill (and I think its mentioned in Order of the Phoenix that wixen don't get the same health issues that muggles do, although that may just be JKR batshittery), by one of the staff at the orphanage, who would prescribe cod liver oil for colds and thats about it. Penicillin was only discovered in 1928 so its likely kids were still dying from infections, especially in the orphanage. A doctor might've been called for something more serious like a broken bone, but operations still were being done on stuff like kitchen tables, so I wouldn't trust a 20s/30s doctor. There would've been a sanitarium (basically a sick room) although I can imagine that children went there to essentially die, especially from the more dangerous conditions that were rife at the orphanage, which I also discussed here.
(This next part is the potentially triggering section. Read at your own discretion.)
Tom is commonly read, particularly to outsiders (as we are when we view him through others eyes), as neurodiverse or with an Anti-Social Personality Disorder. Especially with his magic, he likely would've been perceived the same way by those at the orphanage, most prevalently by Ms Cole and others in charge as kids just don't notice these things. Germany's Aktion T-4 during the 30s an 40s (the proposed eugenics and selective breeding, but in reality murder, of anyone 'mentally retarded') mirrored the attitudes of the first half of the 20th century. Not a lot was known about how children think anyway, so they were often treated as mini adults or dolls, despite children not even having the mental capacities to comprehend why they're doing something until they're literally 15.
Tom (with whatever condition he does have) would have fallen under the Mental Deficiency Act (1913) which was passed almost unanimously with only 3 votes against it. It was a step forward from the previous Idiots Act (1886), but the language and treatment was still poor. It categorised people into four groups:
a) Idiots. Those so deeply defective as to be unable to guard themselves against common physical dangers. b) Imbeciles. Whose defectiveness does not amount to idiocy, but is so pronounced that they are incapable of managing themselves or their affairs, or, in the case of children, of being taught to do so. c) Feeble-minded persons. Whose weakness does not amount to imbecility, yet who require care, supervision, or control, for their protection or for the protection of others, or, in the case of children, are incapable of receiving benefit from the instruction in ordinary schools. d) Moral Imbeciles. Displaying mental weakness coupled with strong vicious or criminal propensities, and on whom punishment has little or no deterrent effect.
It suggested institutionalisation was the best response to these conditions, and the now-obsolete Board of Control for Lunacy and Mental Deficiency oversaw this implementation of 'care'.
Tom wouldn't have been aware of what occurred in these places (lobotomies and shock therapy of various kinds for 'treatment', including insulin and forcing seizures; but also horrible treatments of patients by 'carers' including violence and abuse), but would know that it meant you were crazy. Bedlam (12th century — present) was notorious based on rumours alone. Tom would've been genuinely fearful of what happened in those places even though he had no idea himself.
I remember playing games about asylums when I was a kid, and I doubt children in Tom's time were much different, but there was no one around to de-stigmatise and so rumours perpetuated. I think Tom was very scared because he believed his magic was a sign of insanity or a hallucination, and although he probably wasn't politically aware, he realised his own ability to hurt and was afraid of what that meant for him. To Tom, as a young child knowing nothing about his strange powers, being crazy was just as frightening as death because it meant the end of freedom.

You know what bugs me in the morality battle in fiction, between the good guy with the power of friendship and a bad guy. Where the good guy is portrayed as a victim and the bad guy as an abuser.
The fictionalized good guy doesn't sound like a victim of abuse.
Weird thing to say, I know, borderline inappropriate. And I definitely think I'm being partially close-minded. However, these sorts of sentences always left me confused:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I think I know why now.
It left me confused because I couldn't see how it could hurt the bad guy. What was the point. The bad guy didn't feel or need love, and they always had huge amounts of friends or servants. They could get love if they wanted. If anything, shouldn't the good guy... be the one who's afraid of never knowing love or friendship?
These morality attacks, from the good guy to the bad guy, don't work on most real-life abusers. Either because they don't care, or they don't feel threatened. It sounds confusing because that's not something a victim would say to an abuser, when abusers usually are those who are charismatic and accepted enough to be enabled in their abuse by others, while the victim is isolated.
I'm not much for guessing the author's mindset from what's written in their fictional work. But I think that literary criticism encompasses this:
What Harry said here may reflect what a toxic narcissist such as JKR sees as the ultimate emotional weapon.
What Harry said doesn't hurt because that's the ultimate retribution from a victim to an abuser.
It hurts because that's what an abuser says to their victim:
You're weak and pathetic. You'll never know love or friendship. And you will die alone, because everybody hates you.
At least Harry had friends and the knowledge his parents loved him to the death.
It's frustrating to see how the underdog heroes -- the victims of abuse -- can always rely on the power of friendship. They don't lose friends because of their own weird, broken behavior. They don't get trapped in toxic relationships with narcissistic predators. They don't have to feel so lonely, unworthy and unlikable. How to relate to them?
Loneliness is hell, indeed. Voldemort succumbs to it.
And I'm not siding with Voldemort here, who was never hurt by Harry's words. But I can't connect to Harry when he says something that hurts me.
Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.
"I don't want you to pity me" -- probably something Snape would say.
And I would add that maybe Harry shouldn't view lonely people as weak or to be pitied. That he should feel empathy and solemn respect for them. He doesn't know what loneliness feels like anymore, but not everybody has this chance, and it's not always their fault.

Hudson and Rex S02E06 - Under the Influencer
I don't really like this episode, I find the subject surrounding the murder and the whole influencer thing boring, plus it somehow was the most repeated episode when it aired in Greece (somehow they managed to put a few of them on a loop. Idiots). But I'll make an effort.
I think someone knew that the subject isn't too appealing which is why in the scene after the murder we get Charlie and Rex playing/training.
Tumblr media
I know Diesel is a well-trained dog but I can't help thinking that a) I wouldn't put my hand there and b) I hope they pay John Reardon well.
I am with Charlie on this one, we shouldn't know about any of these people's lives. It's all like a bad reality show, and reality shows are already bad.
"Weddings and bad luck are virtually synonymous in my books" - Charlie Hudson. So, we're going with this now. And it's a cute small scene with Sarah and Charlie discussing weddings.
"Until death do them part, or another man in my case". Poor resentful man. It will get better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If anyone actually speaks like that in real life, please don't tell me. Leave me blissfully unaware.
It's so insane how no literally no one actually cared for Katie enough, not even her mother, and the man who seemed to care the most about her actually killed her.
Rex: *repeatedly barks to indicate poison* Charlie: *repeatedly ignores him*
Tumblr media
That's a lot of purple for a wedding.
Tumblr media
Fun fact: The Greek word for the flower "snapdragons" is skylaki which translates to "doggo". I am not making this up. So, maybe that's why Rex likes them lol
Poor Jesse had to explain the term shipping to Charlie and Joe.
Tumblr media
Charlie Hudson canonically ships Batman and Robin. Huh.
Fiance gets brought in for questioning because he has set up a ship account shipping him and one of the bridesmaids. We live in crazy times.
"I know this looks like a thirst trap..." And Charlie is error 404.
Katie may not have deserved to die but she was an awful human being.
"Your children's interests infiltrate your brain" I don't know what Joe is talking about. The only thing my parents ever got out of my interests as a child was a deep hatred for Pokemon, video games, and television, and a mild approval for the Harry Potter movies (at least back when JKR wasn't an unhinged right-wing nut).
Tumblr media
Well, that reaction I get. Also Rex's what-the-fuck as well.
Sarah: The happier people look online, the sadder they are in reality. Charlie: You should post that.
Remember when Joe wanted things to be done by the book in the previous episode? Well, in this one Charlie is breaking into the storage locker without a warrant, right after asking Jesse if they're actually going to get that warrant and being assured that it won't be a problem. Good tv? Yes. Bad police procedure? Also yes.
Tumblr media
For a shirt that says Katie club? Bitch, please.
"When you're a social media star, having trolls is a sign of success". Yeah, no. Any idiot with a few hundred followers can have trolls.
The scene with Rex's takedown in the storage area is almost comical and badly edited, with too much slow-mo. The scene with Rex's takedown outside the airport is better, has some obstacles which are good for jumps and such, and doesn't make me want to cringe. Although again, more slow-mo than what is needed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, I'm glad it's on this show because in other fandoms this wouldn't have gotten weird so fast...

Preface, I am trans and have reading difficulties, so I may be misinterpreting that post. I mean not to shit on what you say. Do with that what you will.
I have a few genuine questions, from a (teenaged) Harry Potter fan.
1) If I were to donate twice as much money as I have spent on Harry Potter, and donate it towards trans-empowering Charities (As I plan do once I have the money to spare) , will my enjoyment of this media be warranted?
I have purchased Legacy not in support of JKR, but out of support for the creators of the game. Some of my money may be going to that asshole, but the mass of it will be going to the people that poured their heart and soul into creating a game like that, even if it was Harry Potter themed. If this makes me a slime-faced baboon, then it is warranted.
If I only read hand-me-down books, make my own merchandise, and balance out my purchases two fold, am I committing such an atrocity? For simply enjoying media?
2) I believe that even in this case, we can separate the art from the artist. I think that you can enjoy media created by the scum of the Earth.
Lovecraft was Classist and Racist, and yet his works are celebrated.
Shakespeare had no regard for the crediting of his authors, and yet we still regard him highly.
Even though JKR is an extremely bad person, supporting horrible things, she still created something that changed the world.
Maybe one day, she will die, and it’ll be easier to separate the good from the bad.
As it stands, I do not make this media my entire personality, but I refuse to keep my enjoyment private. I have the right to enjoy something.
In summary, I ask for my genuine wrong doing in enjoying Harry Potter. Please do not reply with something like “Are you actually fucking stupid”, I am asking about my pitfalls, not for ridicule. I appreciate your opinion.

For jkr there seems to be a trend in how tras are currently interpreting her:
Reality: in HP there are goblins, a common feature of European folklore that unfortunately has its roots in antisemitism. Most people who have used goblins in their stories are probably unaware of this and do not have any antisemitic beliefs themselves, Jkr included.
How they’ve interpreted this: Jkr is a massive antisemite and knowingly and maliciously used goblins because she hates Jewish people so very much
Reality: The representation of racial minorities in Harry Potter is not great, but it is very much of it’s time in that respect.
How they’ve interpreted it: Jkr is one of the most racist women in the public eye
Reality: Jkr says biology is real and that women’s rights matter
How they’ve interpreted it: Jkr wants trans people to die and is personally trying to take away their human rights
Reality: Jkr starts funding a rape crisis service exclusively for women, who are the main victims of rape. There are nearby services and shelters that are not female exclusive for those who require them.
How they’ve interpreted it: Jkr specifically did this because she hates trans women and wants them denied any help they may need.

On the mediocrity of Harry Potter
*NOTE!! This is not an attack to HP fans. I also enjoy reading/watching HP, but I can simultaneously bring light to why it isn’t perfect or even very good*
enjoy and pls reblog i’d really appreciate it
I should hope we all know that JK Rowling (JKR) isn’t a very great person. She’s a blazing transphobe, borderline Holocaust denier, and she isn’t this wonderful feminist either. In fact, it’s quite clear that she dislikes women in general.
On that, the first obvious bit of evidence pointing to HP not being super duper brilliant is how JKR writes girls/women. First off, it’s clear that to JKR, the perfect role for a woman is a mother that sacrifices herself (physically or otherwise) for her child(ren). Take Narcissa Malfoy, for example. She makes the unbreakable vow with Snape to protect her son, as she’s certain Draco cannot at the moment kill Dumbledore. To refresh your memory, if the unbreakable vow is broken, the members in the vow die.
Another example is Lily Potter, Harry’s mum. While as an isolated incident, her death and protection of Harry via love would be fine and dandy, however, coupled with how nearly every other woman is written, it seems in very poor taste.
May I note now that out of the top 100 HP characters by mention, only 28 are women. Those 28 include, but are not limited to, Pansy Parkinson, Olympe Maxime, and the corpse of Bathilda Bagshot. These characters are still barely mentioned, except for influxes in singular books. Take that all in, in the top 100 characters by mention in HP, only 28 are women.
Now, we can move to the “shoving under the carpet” of our beloved MC’s trauma. It’s obvious that Harry would have loads upon loads of trauma based on his parents deaths, the literal war he fought in, one of the most evil wizards constantly hunting him down each year, witnessing his friend (Cedric) die via an unforgivable curse, living with the Dursley’s in a cabinet under the stairs, I could go on. However, Harry seems to be mostly fine. Sure, he was spooked after Cedric’s death, and sure, he has his scar pulsing and hurting whenever Voldemort is near, but he seems to have virtually no trauma expressed in the books. Now, this was the 90’s, but still. However, the next bit is truly insane.
Finally, we can get to the goblins. The goblins, that run Gringotts wizarding bank, are hook-nosed, greedy, and not to be trusted. In history, the cruel caricatures of Jewish people are also hook-nosed, greedy, gargoyles and evil creatures alike.
Many watchers of HP expressed shock when they say the goblins on screen, some thinking along the lines of, “Did they really just put these guys in the underground bank??” and the die-hard defenders simply said, “It’s fantasy. It’s wizards.”
However, being fantastical and based around wizards gives no one the right to put harmful stereotypes against the jewish people into children’s, or any, media. In fact, it was mostly adults who picked up on the antisemitic values of the goblin’s portrayal. Racism is not something one is born with, it is something one is taught. The kids who saw the HP movies may have seen the goblins and thought, “Ew, those guys suck,” and then later in life meet a jewish person who has the features of the goblins and say, “Ew, these people are real? You all suck.”
Racial stereotypes are never okay, and paired with JKR’s borderline Holocaust denial, make for a very suspicious situation.
Finally, the writing is mid at best. The most interesting character (from a writing standpoint) is Dumbledore, which is insane. He’s got the most depth, as a truly morally grey character. Most of the characters serve one purpose and then are killed off, or are just extremely flat. The plot is a copy-paste YA line, which is fine, but it makes one visualize a connection between these over-used plots in YA and the over-used tropes and characters in modern “dark romance” (which now, is mostly badly written smut).
Again, this is not an attack to anyone who likes HP or dark romance or popular tropes/character personalities/plotlines. Personally, I love the grumpy x sunshine trope, or friends to lovers. However, HP is a bit more controversial than a trope, and while I enjoy it and it is nostalgic, we have to tear down and really look at these flaws and moral wrongs in the story.
To truly eradicate these stereotypes and bring in more awareness to writing, we have to talk about them. They cannot be shoved under any rugs (like Harry’s trauma) and have to be slowly unraveled from writing and the world altogether.
Summary, JKR bad writer don’t use racial stereotypes on characters and try not to write mid stories that don’t like women.
PS I wrote this in one go after talking about why HP is mid with a friend and it inspired me so this is just the convo with less emojis and more backstory 🤑 pls reblog or like or comment gangalang

For the snape asks, 26 and 28 if you please
26. How do you think Snape’s first day/year/etc of teaching went?
Impostor syndrome head to toe. For context, I think he was disillusioned already with Voldemort and his cause, and the threat to Lily was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. He knew that defecting meant certain death and had no one to protect him, but when Voldemort targeted Lily he cut his losses and went to Dumbledore, because if he was going to die at least it would have a purpose. Instead, he was recruited as a spy and offered protection, making defection possible.
As a result, when he took up the teaching position that was the cover for him being a spy, he knew it was for that purpose and not because he was qualified, or even prepared, to teach. He was a 21 year old string bean of compressed anxieties, teaching students some of whom were third or fourth years when he was in his seventh. I think he felt very out of place and like he was playing the role of teacher, and not like he actually was one. He knew the material better than the book, as we know, but getting students to learn it and understand is another.
However. The way he's written - his ability to silence a room wordlessly, his ability to make everyone listen more the softer he speaks, most aspects of his imposing nature - indicates he took a lot of traits on from Voldemort. I like the idea that McGonagall also mentored him when he first started teaching, and there are traces of her strictness and no-nonsense approach in him. Really, his teaching style and manner indicates a combination of influences from both.
I think his first day teaching was rough. Maybe it was when he got advice from McGonagall that something in his head clicked and he realized that a lot of teaching, like what he saw Voldemort do, was about confidence and attitude. Maybe he realized that of course he's playacting as a teacher, he's playacting his whole life now, as a spy. He had a chance to make himself over. I think he was less twitchy by then than in his school days, partly because he had grown into his body and wasn't an awkward teen anymore, and partly as a result of whatever traumas he experienced as a DE that he reacted to by hiding his emotional responses and feeling an overwhelming need to be in control of himself. He developed his own teaching style by emulating Voldemort in the classroom. It must have been a thrill and a shock when he realized it was effective and made students sit up and pay attention. It may even have been his own little act of quiet rebellion, in a way - proving to himself that Voldemort's persona was a farce, a show put on to capture his audience, and mocking him by imitating him. This would also have shown him how easily people follow anyone exuding confidence and how easily they cower in front of anyone imposing. He would have respected the students who challenged him for not buying into his charade. Tbh if Harry wasn't James' son, Snape would have respected him much more for his consistent pushback, in my opinion.
I also think his habit of writing instructions on the board instead of having students consult their textbooks was something he developed early on and instinctively, because he knew his instructions were better than the books. Maybe this was an inroad to finding his way around the whole teaching thing... when you're able to make something your own, it's easier to have confidence in it.
28. Did you make it through OotP, HBP, and DE not knowing what JKR had in store for Snape’s character? Or had those things been spoiled for you beforehand?
I feel like I'm going to bore people, I've talked about this so much, so I'm sorry if you've seen this before lol! I didn't know about Lily being a motivation but the rest was foreshadowing so overbearingly that I couldn't, for the life of me, understand why people questioned whether he was on Voldemort's side or Harry's. From the moment in PS when we find out Snape wasn't the villain and was, in fact, trying to save Harry, there was no question in my mind that any time he was framed by the narrative as villainous it was a misdirect. I talk about it more in this post but essentially, if you read him in each book without the bias that Harry describes him with, then it's pretty easy to see that his attempts to help and save Harry are consistent and ever present.
The thing that confirmed my suspicions most was the parallel Rowling drew between Harry and Snape in Half-Blood Prince:
“Hating himself, repulsed by what he was doing, Harry forced the goblet back towards Dumbledore’s mouth and tipped it, so that Dumbledore drank the remainder of the potion inside.”
Half-Blood Prince Ch. 26
“Snape gazed for a moment at Dumbledore, and there was revulsion and hatred etched in the harsh lines of his face. ‘Severus … please …’ Snape raised his wand and pointed it directly at Dumbledore. ‘Avada Kedavra!”
Half-Blood Prince Ch. 27
I was a stubborn little shit about it when I first read it, and I still am: this, to me, was irrefutable evidence that Snape's actions weren't what they seemed, and that he had some kind of arrangement with Dumbledore. The parallel use of the words "revulsion" and "hatred" to describe both him and Harry, specifically their reactions and facial expressions, also paralleled moments where each of them was harming Dumbledore, at least one of them on Dumbledore's orders. I didn't notice this specific word use immediately, but not long after I finished the book I went back and compared the scenes because I knew that, as much as I think Rowling is lacking in her ability to write prose, I also knew that she was meticulous about language and word choice when setting up important narrative moments. And this isn't even a sophisticated move tbh - she used the same two words, not even synonyms, and just switched the order and used varying conjugations. It felt so obvious to me.
Tbh I still feel that adolescent knee-jerk reaction when I point this out and someone says, "yeah maybe" because to me it's just fact, and always has been. It's not a maybe. This was absolutely deliberate on the author's part, as it should be! This is how you utilize the medium of literature to tell this kind of story. A lot of other people at the time noticed it too, so I felt vindicated, but it made me crazy when I saw people read absurd theories into the text and dismiss this one lol. What can I say, I had a lot of feelings back then.
Anyway, I was excited for Deathly Hallows when it finally came out because I knew that Snape's true motivation would finally be revealed. I read that whole book just to get to chapter 33. I never doubted that Snape was on Harry's side, I just didn't know why.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
I wasn't tagged directly, lol. I'm doing it anyway, though!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 12 works on AO3!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
390,129 words, at present.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently (and I suspect forevermore): House of the Dragon. Previously: Harry Potter (back before JKR was a massive cunt).
4. Top five fics by kudos?
dōnus riñus (sweet girl) (3,417) gevivys (beauty) (2,971) ñuhus prūmȳs (my heart) (2,276) ilībītsos (little slut) (1,881) darilaros (princess) (883)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes, I do! I like to thank people for reading, plus it satisfies my odd-number issue (they make me weirdly uncomfy). When people take time out of their day to leave me a message, I want to make sure I'm recognising that and letting them know that I appreciate it.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Yikes. I think it's the Harry Potter one, where I have Harry and Hermione marry and have a kid during the war, and they both die in the Final Battle and Ron ends up taking the kid to visit their grave.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I think that pretty much all my terms of endearment fics have happy endings - or near enough for ASOIAF-verse!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Weirdly enough, no. I'd resigned myself to it given the themes and content, but people are weirdly accepting of it. I sometimes get strange comments (like someone who keeps insisting I make Daemon cheat with Rhaenyra), but they aren't hate, just... odd.
9. Do you write smut?
Yes. Feels like that should be overemphasised, haha. My writing is diiiiiirty.
10. Craziest crossover?
I haven't written any crossovers! If I were to do so, I'd probably do a 'Daenerys teleports back in time to House of the Dragon and gets with Daemon and Rhaenyra'. Hot.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Three damn times, lol, all from the same fic series (ToE). Once in May of last year, where someone stole my work and only changed the names to fit the Shadow and Bone fandom. Once again in June of last year, where someone plagiarised multiple ways and multiple times to write their fic (a whole other drama, yikes). And once in May of this year, where someone stole the entire first part of one of my chapters to write their Daemon x OC fic on Wattpad. All have been removed, because I'm not down with plagiarism at all.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I think so? I cannot remember for the life of me. I know I've been asked, and I gave my approval, but I haven't seen the translations myself so no idea if that ever went ahead.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! But it hasn't been published. We call it 'the Socussy fic' because it involves an unnamed female OC being hired by the Blacks to off the Greens during the Dance, only she does so by banging them to death in hilariously macabre ways. I wrote the establishing part featuring Daemon hiring her and the Larys footfuck death. We're missing one final bit, I think? It started in the big HotD Discord server I run, and @bottlesandbarricades @targaryenrealnessdarling and @ewanmitchellcrumbs have all collaborated on it. We're waiting for a final victim to contribute and then we shall convene as the Socussy Council and bestow the posting of it upon one poor soul! (I vote you Rach @bottlesandbarricades)
14. All time favourite ship?
I'm a die-hard Daemyra (Daemon Targaryen x Rhaenyra Targaryen) fan, but I also recognise that this is likely going to fracture and perish as the series progresses. I'm also hella into Jonsa (Jon Snow x Sansa Stark) and Jonerys (Jon Snow x Daenerys Targaryen). Plus, I like Jaimsa (Jaime Lannister x Sansa Stark) and Sanseryn (Sansa Stark x Oberyn Martell). I don't really know what this all says about me as a person, both the pairings themselves AND the fact they're all ASOIAF ships.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I have an Aemond WIP fic that I'm too scared to finish given Aemond stans are a little intimidating to me! Also, I have a Klaus Mikaelson x OC/Reader x Elijah Mikaelson threesome fic that lingers in my files.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I like to think my strengths are my flowery prose, my relative era-accurate world-building and my characterisation.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I ramble way the fuck too much. Seriously, shut up, Em. Explain those three paragraphs in one goddamn sentence only.
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I think it's cool! I've made sure to research how one would format the inclusion of this in a standard fiction novel, too, so that it reads as 'professionally' as it can be. I manually translate High Valyrian to include in my writing, because the translators aren't at all accurate and I don't want to break the immersion (even for myself). (As an aside, I can and do assist others in this too - hit me up if you need it!)
19. First fandom you wrote in?
Blegh. Harry Potter. Don't shoot me, I was a child.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
My series terms of endearment. If I have to choose within the series, probably ñuhus prūmȳs (my heart); it's the first proper divergence from show material featuring my own plot, and I think it's where my writing truly takes form.
YAY! Done.
No pressure tags: @vampire-exgirlfriend @emilykaldwen @marthawrites @mini-kunoichi @selfproclaimedunicorn
