Jintae Yang x Reader: What Kind of Partner?

The coppery tang of blood weighed so heavily in the air that you could taste it. Bodies of your fellow disciples lay strewn across the training grounds that you had known all your life. A sigh left your lips as another one of your cohorts tried to stab you from behind. One swift slash was all it took to separate his body from his head. What had he been practicing if dirty tricks were all he could rely on? How pathetic.

Your attention shifted to the One-Hundred-Sided Blade's orange light cutting through the darkness of the night. A scream of pain was heard but was quickly silenced with a single stroke. The sound of clashing blades filled the courtyard instead. Thus began the battle for inheritance.

Master and Jintae were locked in a battle of swordsmanship so beautiful that the passing of time escaped my notice. Something was off, though. Despite his skill, Jintae should have been completely outclassed by Master. That's when I realized this wasn't a death match but a training session. As I made this conclusion, Jintae's sword pierced through our teacher. I took that as a signal to approach the two.

"I understand now that my blade couldn't possibly touch you. But why have you died for me?" Jintae asked the dying man. A smile formed on Master's face as he wiped blood under Jintae's eye. It was reminiscent of a tear, though no real ones were shed.

"It's only a matter of time before you or (Y/N) would have surpassed me. And you will show the world the might of our sword technique! Whether you wish to or not!" Madness, or perhaps passion, gleamed in Master's dying eyes as he bled on the ground, Glass Blade in hand. He died laughing.

You glanced at Jintae, who seemed deep in thought. His momentary distraction wasn't great enough for him to miss the other disciple who tried to cut him down. One more body for the courtyard. The few remaining disciples slowly emerged, hoping that the battle had weakened Jinate enough for them to defeat him. It hadn't. And even if it had, they would have to kill you: a near task impossible for anyone other than Master or Jintae. 

"Come, Jintae. Let's finish off this rabble before we end things." With a nod from the brown-haired man, the slaughter began. Limbs were lost, throats were slashed, and blood dyed your surroundings. In the middle of this deadly tornado of blades were two swords people fighting in perfect tandem.

As the dust settled, Jintae turned toward you. "Let's end this once and for all," he demanded, raising his sword. To the untrained eye, nothing would be amiss, but there was an unusual sluggishness to his movement. 

"You're still tired from your battle with Master. I refuse to fight you until you have recovered." Jintae opened his mouth to protest, but you cut him off. "We both have our pride as swordsmen. I will fight you at your best or not at all."

"One hour is all I need."

"So be it." You sat down and began to meditate. Memories of the battle between Jintae and Master filled your head. Every precisely placed slash and thrust was analyzed. Your fellow disciple may have learned from experience, but you have always cultivated swordsmanship through observation. 

After some time, your analysis was complete, and your thoughts shifted towards the man across the courtyard who continued to train through his recovery period. A sigh left your lips. Honestly, you had no desire for the Glass Blade. All you wanted was to continue studying the art of the sword. If killing Jintae was the only way to leave the mountains alive, then you would make it so. He wouldn't be an easy opponent, though. In all the years you'd trained together, there had never been a distinguishing difference in strength between you two. Both of you honed your skills to the best of your abilities and then worked even harder. When allowed to wander, your brain found his persistence... attractive. That was of little matter now, though. An hour had passed, and it was time to fight.

You pushed yourself onto your feet and gripped the hilt of your sword. Jintae turned towards you and did the same. No more words needed to be shared, just the crossing of blades. In perfect sync, you unsheathed your swords and dashed toward each other. The resulting collision rang through the mountains. This battle encapsulated the raw beauty of swordsmanship in a way that words could not fully express.

Unadulterated adrenaline flowed through your veins as you narrowly dodged a slash to your throat. As retaliation, you placed a cut on Jintae's face. Glee filled your heart as you realized that both of you were getting stronger mid-battle. Perhaps this was the exhilaration Master felt as he fought for the last time. That introspection was cut short by Jintae's sword nearly gutting you. Had it not been for your gift, you would have surely perished.

Hours passed as you engaged in combat. Both EST reserves were depleted, and your bodies screamed for respite, but the battle continued anyway. How could either of you stop when you were having so much fun?

All things must come to an end, though. The force of your blades colliding knocked you to the ground. As Jintae approached, you attempted to stand up, but every muscle in your body failed. It seemed like your life was coming to an end. A smile spread across your face as you saw the sun rising in the background. Dying here at Jintae's hands didn't seem too bad. You stared at the man as he pointed his sword at your head. You didn't beg, you didn't scream, nor did you flinch as Jintae reared back to stab. The sound of metal cutting through the air filled your ear, but there was no pain. You blinked, confused, and still alive.

"What's the meaning of this, Jintae Yang? Didn't you want to be the only one to descend this mountain?

"I've changed my mind. Become my partner, (Y/N)." He reached down to pull your weakened body up. Heat coursed through you despite the copious amount of blood you had lost.

Refusing to let Jintae know you were flustered, you smirked and asked, "What kind of partner? A partner in crime? A training partner? Or," you grinned mischievously, "a romantic partner?"

Jintae matched your smirk and pulled you closer. His face was a mere inch from yours. "Why not all three?"

His orange eyes burned with a light far more enchanting than the sunrise. With your last ounce of strength, you mustered the will to close the gap between your lips.

"Why not, indeed. I accept your proposal," you breathed out after separating from the kiss. The partnership was sealed with another kiss.

That day, two people descended the mountains.

idk hate on gmmtv all u want but them bringing back an OG couple from a 5yr hiatus to cast them in an extremely risky remake of a show that's highly critically acclaimed, fighting copyright issues for over a year, getting a ban on youtube, STILL releasing the show on live tv with subtitles and THEN end up making the adaption better than the original, fixing the messed up side couple, giving all 3 couples healthy and loving relationships, a proper development with good pacing, not cursing the 11th episode with dumb drama AND making karan and achi the first gay couple to have a wedding on a gmmtv show is highkey iconic say what u want-
