he's popular. like he knows everyone. he moved to tulsa in 7th grade (he was from norman, oklahoma). he immediately started making friends. he's just charismatic like that. (/modern) he knows all the references, all the lyrics, never misses a beat (to brain rot and memes lmao). he's funny. he's loud.

but when there's a test to be studied for or an assignment to be completed he LOCKS IN. like if there is a worksheet given he will go silent and complete that shit within ten minutes. with test's he's he same. he will study and he will put in that work and it shows in his grades. all As.

he's not like a nerd or an academic beast he's just applied.

also he likes getting stuff out of the way and done quickly. example:

there is an individual test, and the teacher asks who wants to go first. his hand is up. in his mind he's done the work, he's ready and he just wants to get it over with. no stalling, no procrastination.

also he's always like getting into stuff, mostly because of his friends.

he did that for so many things, same with clubs. like he gives a fuck about crochet, but his friend does, so he'll go.

but when he's upset you don't rlly want to go near him. um! it's an experience. not because he'll punch you or insult you, but you know those people that are just always so happy, it's just super uncomfortable to see them serious/upset? well, he's like that. he mostly goes quiet. but he tries to hide it for the most part. he's not good with feelings.

Why do you think Curly invited Jim to be his co-pilot? The new co-pilot could be a random person, but Curly wanted it to be someone he's close too. A friend. Whether subconsciously or not, I think Curly wanted someone to confinde in, he couldn't do so with his crew, he saw his relationship with them purely as work based.

We know Curly has been going through, for the lack of the better words, mid life crisis and some people speculate about him having a depression. He just wanted a friend to listen, understand and support him in his decisions.

Maybe he could turn his life around for the better, if he didn't choose Jimmy. Curly wanted him, for several reasons. First of, they were already friends, besides he "knew" what Jimmy "was capable of". He knew Jimmy have been struggling, so it's perfect right? Curly helps him, and he gets to have a friend around. But what if it's darker? He helped him with employment to Pony Express using the same words that were used on him (see: How fish is made dlc). Could it be that Curly wanted to drag another person with him to this hopeless situation? Not to feel as lonely and lost? Maybe that's why he was so guilty about the crew dismissal, that's why he frantically told Jimmy that he could "fix this". Because Curly felt responsible for Jimmy, for "for feeding him false promises and letting him down"?

From this point of view, Curly seems quite selfish. It's hard to figure out exactly his motives: was he really trying to be a good captain but ultimately failed because of his blind trust? Or was he, just like we, trying to live his life but not concerning himself with the well-being of others not in necessarily malicious but in an ignorant way?

⋆ Maybe your humility was why he fell for you. And he was everything you weren't (bold, honest, and exciting), so you felt drawn to him, too. Or hold him back from his duties as Ganghak's leader?

Actually shut up. She did. She did need someone to save her.

She went to curly for help and didn't get it, then to Swansea when it was already too late to make things better for anyone aboard. (What was he gonna do? Kill Jimmy and spend the next however many weeks they had left with a rotting body?)

One of the main points of her storyline was how she had no one to help her. Fuck YES she needed someone to save her. Needing someone wasn't and isn't an expression of her being helpless. It shows just how alone she was as a victim and as the only woman out of the whole crew.

She needed help, she needed saving, she needed protection, and she got none of those.

I really hate the idea that victims of any kind of abuse, especially SA, should be entirely self-sufficient, oreven mostly so, and come out on top on their own or else they're bad characters. Is it cool when it happens? Is it cool when a victim rises up by their own will? Yes!! But it shouldn't be obligatory, and the alternative of being "saved" shouldn't be treated as a failure or like it instantly takes away all agency or personhood from the individual.

Victims do need help most times, and that doesn't make them any less capable, nor does it mean all their identity besides "poor helpless baby" is taken away. It's an awful thing to imply that needing help besides the one you can give yourself will automatically make you nothing more than a damsel in distress because that's what you're actually saying.

Also, to clarify, yes, making the abused NEED others to "make them better" and act like they're doomed without a savior is ALSO just as bad! Both extremes are bad!!
