I was in a bit of a somber mood after the ending so I made yet another set of character name meanings (Korean). If you notice the differences from my previous edits it's because I had since learned a little bit more about naming culture in China, Japan, and Korea. Enjoy!

A 'What if' ending that I thought long ago

(this is almost 10 months old post , I didn't know about Tumblr at that time so I Posted this on reddit lol, sorry guys I can't write so this is just something?)

I was looking forward for the epilogue episode hoping that we'd get spin offs but I see that's not the case. Most of us are quite disappointed with the ending and with such a great story like Weak hero, I think the reason is valid. So, as I can do nothing but imagine, here's a What if ending that I thought about -

(After Donald's Death , that guy never called Gray and Gray didn't meet Stephen) Wolf and Jimmy didn't find a suitable head for the UNION. So the rebuild of UNION never happened.Kingsley became depressed and got character development . He realised what he should have been Donald's friend not UNION advisor.

But he was suspicious about the truck thing. So he sent jimmy to investigate and he got to know that it was none other than Chungil Lee . Now he's gonna take revenge ofc . But through the process he gets to know that it was Myles Joo who told Chungil Lee that it would be the best to strike Donald Na when he's all alone at Han riverside.

Kingsley brings out all the dirt on Cheongang corporation Ltd and publises it online. And Cheongang corporation is vanished after Police investigation.

Kingsley knew that unlike Chungil,Myles had nothing to lose so he thought of killing him (as his life is all that he had) . But Myles calls Kingsley first. Myles meets Kingsley at a cafe Central Seoul .

There Myles tell him that Donald is alive. After that fight with Donald, Myles( remembered how Donald and he met and power of friendship theory) realised that he shouldn't have told Chungil Lee all that . But it was too late. That night he went to the hospital too but nobody actually noticed him as Union guys were not informed about it at first and Eunjang crew was looking after Gray . Meanwhile Myles got to know that Cheongang gang is after him as he's the only person who knows about the preparation of the truck incident and they don't want any evidence. So he had to stay underground.but he couldn't leave Donald there cause if Cheongang gets to know that he's not Dead, they might attack him again. So with a 'Criminal Doctor' Myles manages to fake Donald's Death.and Kingsley fainting when asked to close his eyes made the situation for them only better.

For a whole week after the funeral Donald was actually in the same hospital but in another floor another room. Once the whole "Donald's dead" news was everywhere , Myles moved him to a well-known hospital in Central Seoul and Donald's currently in Coma . Myles wanted to tell all these to Kingsley but he couldn't as he had to stay underground but now that Cheongang 's gone he's finally able to tell him.

Myles said that he will never cross path with any of the union members again and now all the responsibilities of Donald are on Kingsley.

Kingsley now found is hope again. This time he promised himself to be a better friend because - power of friendship theory . But also he is also worried about Donald getting caught once he wakes up . So he starts thinking about changing Donald's identity . So it will seem like that Donald Na died . And manages to find a "criminal lawyer'' with whom he plotted a case where Donald's abusive father planned the accident to take the money he got from olympiads just like what he did with his mom's insurance money . And as the police investigated the whole incident they found out that do not stayf father was indeed a thug guy who Had a lot of debt . And with all that under protection law Donald's name was finally changed .

When Donald woke up , Kingsley explained him everything. Donald managed to get in at a school in central Seoul. Both of them graduated high school and for the last time Donald sat for olympiad . This time too , gray and him both placed first. But Gray never got to know that it was Donald because he changed the name! And he was focused on something else. The third name in the list - Stephen Ahn .

That's right. Eugene Ben Alex Gerard everyone help to Gray to overcome the past and he did get better. Eugene told him to participate in the Olympiad . So , he did . Stephen on the other hand knew that it was the only way to reach out to Gray so he participated in the math Olympiads too and he intentionally left a question unattended so he could be the second and Gray would be the first. His plan worked and Gray managed to find stephen again. They reunited.

Kingsley and Donald both went to America as scholarship students and Donald eventually became a citizen there.and as he was a citizen he presented his college in the college level Olympiads (yes it is a thing) . And gray and Donald had to compete eachother again but in this competition there's a segment where you have to solve questions with your opponent so this time white mamba and the white lion would be solving maths problems together. Gray would be shocked to see someone just like Donald na wilth no tattoos and black hair (laser treatment and hair dye is the solution). Gray's insticts would tell him that it donald but he saw him die infront of his own eyes and there would be no proof . And it'll be the last question Donald gave to Gray which Gray could never ever solve.

Donald Na has a long time crush for reader and whenever he sees reader from afar, he would stop and just watch them. But one time, one of reader's friends noticed and told them someone was watching her and he almost got caught. So he just decides to confess his love for reader.

"donald? are you listening?" kingsley asks, for the nth time this week. it was starting to agitate him since he wanted to tell donald about what was going on in the union, and he just didn't seem to care! "donald." kingsley repeats.

"huh? oh, yes kingsley, what is it?" donald asks, tearing his focus away from you and to the man trying to talk to him. with a raised eyebrow, kingsley asks, "are you staring at (y/n) again?"

"no, i'm not staring. i'm simply observing. they're a real nutcase, that (y/n)." donald replies, almost having his cover blown. resulting in an unimpressed "uh-huh" from kingsley.

"well, regarding the fight between jimmy bae and.." kingsley begins. 'aaand, he's not listening.' kingsley thinks. he look at donald, then at you happily talking with your friends, then at donald again. 'he cares about them more than the union?' .・。.・゜✭・.

"are you still staring at them?" kingsley asks. "again, not staring. i'm-" "yes, you're observing." kingsley interupts, cutting donald off. he recieves a pointed look, but donald lets it slide.

a small, fond smile is apparent on donald's face as he watches you from afar. and it disappears as soon as it could be seen, as your friend takes notice of his "observing".

"(y/n), do you know that blonde guy?" your friend asks. you turn around and make eye contact with him for a split second, before he averts his gaze. "yeah they do! that's their boyfriend~!" another friend teases. "he's not my boyfriend, we're just friends! he's my class and i think he's kinda cute.." you say, taking a sip of your drink. "well, boyfriend or not, he was staring at youuu~!" your friend sang out, wriggling her eyebrows at you.

"no he's not!! donald's probably looking at something else." you deny, feeling your cheeks grow warm. "well, donald's looking again." she responds. you turn to look at donald and catch him looking at you. you hold eye contact for a bit before turning away. "okay, maybe he is looking at me." you say with a flushed face. "but, whatever! i'm sure it doesn't mean anything.." you continue, taking another sip from your drink. .・。.・゜✭・.

the next day, you recieve a text from him.

'meet me in my office at 5.'

'why does he want me to go to his office?' you ponder. nonetheless, you arrive there at 5 and knock on the door. "it's (y/n)." you call out.

donald quickly opens the door and stares at you. "can..uh- can i come in?" you ask with a sheepish smile.

"yeah, yes.. come in.." he responds, opening the door more to make space for you. "uh- here, for you.." he says bashfully, holding out a bouqet of flowers.

"thank you!" you beam, gratefully accepting them from his hands and taking a seat.

"listen.. i'm just going to get straight to the point.." he starts, taking a seat in front of you. "i like you.. a lot." he continues, staring at the flowers in your hand. "and..i was wondering.. if i could.. be your boyfriend.." he trails off, feeling his ears turn pink.

"i- wh- yes!" you sputter, stunned at the sudden confession. "i would." you smile at him.

"yes? okay.. okay, i have a meeting soon, but meet me at ____ restaurant at 6?" he asks standing up, the corner of his lips curling upwards the slightes bit.

"of course, i'll be there." you respond, placing a soft kiss on his cheek and walking out the door.

For all that Na Baekjin has these strange laughing scenes people in the story keep being scared by... this panel is much scarier for me.

It is a combination of things. The way he seems to calm despite having cut his own forehead open. The smile, the unblinking look, the way his eyes and his blood are the same colour and how his blood and eyes are the only colour on him with how skin is almost as pale as his white shirt.

It gives him a kind of eeriness that is kinda unsettling.

Still pretty though.

Weak Hero Musings (10): On the Wasted Potentials of That Death

SPOILER ALERT

(Parts 1-9 were posted on my other blog @weakherodiaries)

A part of me is still resentful that Baekjin (Donald)'s death does nothing to end the criminal enterprises of Changhui's Cheongang (Sky River) and Lee Chungil's network.

Don't get me wrong, I never wanted for Baekjin to become a murder victim. But to simply use his death to highlight the problems of child abuse, youth mental health, and loss of true friendships, to me, wastes the potentials of his death.

Because Baekjin wasn't just an abused minor, he was also a juvenile criminal.

The story is no longer about school violence because Baekjin's crimes were tied to those two crime syndicates.

So I used to wish that Baekjin's death was the result of criminal intent (a conspiracy to murder) by either Cheongang or Lee Chungil. The death would've served as the punchline for the story, and brought the Union and Eunjang kids together. Conspiracy to murder through traffic accidents is a classic trope in kdramas and films, so I thought that my expectation was reasonable (I know, the joke's on me. Insert sad clown laugh: Ha. Ha. Ha). However, since Baekjin's funeral proceeded without the appearance of the law enforcement before, during, or after, I knew that I was hoping in vain.

With the Eunjang and Union kids as eyewitnesses in the syndicates' trials and/or investigations, every character would've had the chance to shine as weak heroes too. They would've pulled through, not by muscles, but by brain and bravery.

With how things are going now, I'm worried that the webtoon might just end openly with Eunjang and Union kids' brawl against Cheongang's or Lee Chungil's thugs. How regrettable would that be, since this story has never been simply about brawls.
