Sandman Cover Project #13—Michael Zulli

This weekend, I’m going to post artworks commissioned via "The Sandman Cover Project": What would the covers have looked like if created by the issue artists instead of Dave McKean?

I will gradually add all illustrations via the tag “Sandman Cover Project”.

We’re starting off with Zulli (and without giving too much away, we’ll finish with him as well)…

I also think it’s sad that people really read past all the heartfelt introspection about how growing up Latino influences his actions and just went to him being gay. If that’s how you see him, that’s perfectly fine, but to ignore what is actually being said at every twist and turn is also exhausting. Ryan is clearly excited about exploring how Eddie’s culture shaped him and I’m personally looking forward to him getting a developed character arc. Sorry, but not everything is about him being gay. Like Ryan said, to understand Eddie, you have to understand growing up Latino.

mm yeah, i say this over and over again but a lot of so called Eddie fans tend to seemingly not even like the actual character

not to mention how many people tend to ignore A Whole Chunk of his character in favour of fanon and like, fine, yeah, engage with the fandom and the character however you want, because he isn't real and i may find it incredibly annoying when that chunk tends to be his background (on the contrary; also when said background is only acknowledged in sexual scenarios, but that's a whole other can of worms) it is everyone's right to do and enjoy whatever fictional stuff they feel like enjoying

but when a real life person who is actually, irrefutably latino, says that he is latino and then fuckwits on tumblr dot com feel like they have the right to debate if he's brown enough to identify with his own ethnicity...... yeah let's not go there

as for the focus on the gay Eddie storyline that may or may not happen; we've been here for years and again, everyone can do and speculate whatever they want about the character, but in my experience people who put more emphasis on him being gay (in fanon) than him coming from a latino family (canon) are the people who base their own identity on a single marker as well...

again, not much to be done about that, but i wholeheartedly understand your frustration and i hope you can find people who care about the character in a way that makes you enjoy it and makes you feel comfortable to engage with as well <3

so... apparently I've been writing Sammelweis' name wrong the entire time. It's Semmelweis, just like the doctor Ignaz Semmelweis.

I do wonder if she's going to have a heavy-handed reference to the real-life Semmelweis. Look him up, his story and role in the founding of antisepsis practices is incredibly interesting if you're into medical history like me.

i have a crab fact!!!

some crabs like king crabs aren't actually anatomically crabs!!!

a "true crab" (brachyura) has an attached abdomen (tail) and 8 walking legs with 2 pincers!!!

however there is a closely related crustacean order called anomura, which literally means differently tailed!!! king crabs, hermit crabs, sand crabs are all not actually true crabs because they only have 6 walking legs!!! and their abdomen isn't attached!!!
