NAME: Alp (Pl: Alpe or Alpen)
RARITY: ★★☆☆☆
THREAT LEVEL: ★★☆☆☆ | Far more likely to cause distress and illness than kill. Many weaknesses lay people can take advantage of.
HABITAT: Peoples’ bedrooms at night… no one really knows what they do during the day.
DESCRIPTION: Alpe are demonic beings born from nightmares and the result of someone’s negative thoughts and fears physically manifesting. They’re thought to be close relatives of the mare, and are more likely to appear as a result of recurrent nightmares. These include nightmares left by mares themselves. The alp will then visit its victim almost nightly to further torment them with nightmares and physical force through sitting on their victim’s chest. Alpe can take a variety of appearances since they’re able to shapeshift based on a person’s fears. However, their true and default form is that of a large, nude decomposing person. They have a single big eye in the middle of their torso and sometimes wear a little hat. Mare opinions on them are mixed.
ABILITIES: Alpe can shapeshift into a variety of forms, such as a cat, pig, dog, snake, or white butterfly. If they’re wearing their hat (tarnekappe), they can turn invisible and intangible. Even without the hat, alpe are able to get into small spaces by shifting their form, meaning they can usually get into someone’s bedroom each night unimpeded. Due to their large size, they’re able to torture or suffocate their victims in their sleep by sitting on top of them. Alpe have a large eye in the middle of their chest (called an “evil eye”) and gazing into it will inflict bad luck, or even illness.
WEAKNESS: Though alpe are powerful beings, they have a lot of weaknesses. If someone tormented by an alp doesn’t give into their fear, the alp will be unable to cause physical harm. Baku can also keep them away and will happily eat any they see. Additionally, a broomstick under a pillow, horseshoes hung from a bedpost, a mirror placed on the chest, or shoes against the bed with the toes pointing toward the door may help to ward alpe away. Bad luck inflicted by alpe is typically reversible with the help of some magic charms, but many don’t even know they’re inflicted due to the tendency to mistake alpe for “sleep paralysis demons” rather than a supernatural occurrence. Removing or damaging an alp’s evil eye will prevent an alp from visiting until it heals or grows back. Alpe are thought to be impossible to kill, and can reappear years later, angrier for being kept away for so long…
OTHER VARIANTS:
Epiales: These powerful alpe were known as the “Melas Oneiros” (Black Dream) in ancient Greece and Rome, and considered daimon spirits of nightmare and fever. They frequently appear on the astral plane in the form of an enormous spider with black wings and burning eyes, but they can shapeshift like other alpe. Those wounded in a dream will be wracked by chills and burning fever in the waking world that can progress to blindness and madness if not treated. Mass outbreaks of these symptoms in an area can be a sign that an epiales has been dreamed into being.

The #DCEU has navigated its share of challenges, but it reached a triumphant moment with the release of #ZackSnyder's Justice League.
Concept artist Jerad S. Marantz has showcased breathtaking concept art, hinting at the inclusion of #HalJordan. #GreenLantern plans were adjusted due to a still unreleased streaming show.
Uncertainty surrounds Nathan Fillion's role in Superman: Legacy. The mixed momentum in the DCU, fully without Snyder's vision, instills doubt among fans for the future of the #DCComics movie universe.
