i've been lurking around the rosekiller tag for a long while and i see a lot of people asking for rosekiller-centric fic recs, so if anyone cares here's my hand-picked list of rosekiller fic recs. this includes a lot of the popular ones but also some less-popular and very underrated ones (i think). anyways hopefully i'm doing this right cuz i've never posted on here before soo pls be kind if i make a mistake abt something idk.

this includes both long/multi-chapter fics and one shots btw.

also be warned; this is pretty long even though i tried to keep things short-ish (but i can't help it these are all such good fics i have to talk about them!!!). if you want the rough-ish approximation of this list in the form of a spreadsheet with more details (me ranting about how much i love these fics), click here.

LONG FICS (or basically just more than 1 chapter fics)

why do stars fall down from the sky, every time that you walk by by ricecake_13 (E, 117k, 17/?) this is actually my favorite ongoing rosekiller fic ever oh my god, it's a modern high school au with lots of povs and ships though rosekiller is the main one. beautifully written, gorgeous plot/pacing, amazing characterization, incredibly underrated, please read this it's a masterpiece.

The Blood of Hyacinthus by writingamarie (M, 175k, 14/20) another one of my fav ongoing fics, it's a canon compliant rosekiller fic (ravenclaw barty my beloved!!!) starting from first year all throughout the war. this is probably the best portrayal of canon compliant rosekiller i've seen, they aren't portrayed as poor kids who got roped into the war, they made their own decisions, and i love it so much.

Just Deserts by paletragedycat (M, 700k, 43/?) i'm at around like chapter 10 of this absolute beast of a fic and i am begging you guys to give this fic more attention. it's absolutely incredibly written with a fantastic plot, gorgeous characterization, this fic is absolutely insane like. this deserves to be like the crimson rivers of rosekiller. the plot is lowkey kinda hard to explain but umm. some of them are detectives, some of them are bodyguards, some of them are criminals. super cool. this fic is actually just so so impressive and so incredibly underrated it hurts.

sun tea in the summer by cademygod (NR, 44k, 10/12) this is THE rosekiller coming of age story i swear, modern au that starts when they're kids and each chapter they age 1 year, super cute and fluffy, i am such a sucker for childhood friends to lovers tropes omg.

Evan Rosier and the Unbearable Weight of his Own Decisions by Mylifeisaworm (E, 145k, 35/?) another great portrayal of canon compliant rosekiller, i really love how this one features all the slytherins we typically don't like (snape, mulciber, wilkes, etc.) bc it makes this fic feel even more realistic. this is a super awesome take on canon rosekiller and i love it.

Head Over Feet by sanguinerose (E, 136k, 27/27) i'm sure you guys have heard of this one but it's a modern au, super great, it's everything i've ever wanted from a rosekiller high school au. and evan is french btw god i love french evan rosier so much.

PRETTY BOY by IvyCore (E, 96k, 10/10) this is part of a series, the first part is SUGAR HIGH which is a jegulus fic but honestly this can probably?? be read without reading that one first (even though i still super recommend it). barty is a sex worker and a pianist and evan is a restaurant owner and this is just so so good omg.

intermission by bizarrestars (M, 43k, 4/4) very sure you all have heard of this fic (and for good reason too, it's fantastic) but in case you haven't it's a no voldemort au but still at hogwarts and in the same universe as just lovers (jegulus, also amazing, like the second marauders fic i read i think). this is so sweet and fluffy and cute and this fic is what got me into rosekiller i think soo yeah.

Tug by pressedink (E, 70k, 12/?) rosekiller dating app au where they pair two strangers together in an apartment and they can do whatever except they can't kiss or else they can never seen each other again. except barty and evan are not strangers. i loove this fic, and it's super smutty if that's up your alley. (did i use that phrase right? i feel like i didn't but whatever.)

Beneath the Mask by orphan_account (T, 105k, 44/44) okay this one is a really interesting concept, it's broken up into two timelines: one following them during their hogwarts years and the other following evan while he navigates life after the wizarding war. idk it's a bit hard to explain but. you'll see. so yeah all the war stuff does happen but they both survive afterwards. i really enjoyed this, it was a really interesting take on the whole war situation.

A Truthful Joke by justreadandwritex (T, 30k, 9/9) best friends to lovers au set at hogwarts but idk if voldemort exists (if he does he's not mentioned). just rosekiller being incredibly stupid and cute and oblivious.

Straight A's by stargirly161 (T, 32k, 14/14) academic rivals to lovers rosekiller oh my god i need to see more of them. another pretty popular one and understandably so because it's amazing in every aspect, i've reread this one like 3 times.

Ant Pile by sommerregenjuniluft (E, 21k, 2/2) super super amazing rosekiller coming of age fic and childhood best friends to lovers, god i love this fic. the story starts when they're little kids and it is the most adorable thing ever and ends when they're like 18 and it's just. so good. please read it.

having a ghost in my bed by v7lgar (E, 42k, 3/3) modern au and okayyy wow this is legit just smut all the way through and WOW is it something, this is like some of the best rosekiller smut i've read. if you're just looking for some smut this is the place to look.

I'm Not Gonna Teach Him How to Dance with You by greensenne (M, 122k, 18/18) you've probably heard of this one but i'm still including it, this is set post-hogwarts (so there's still magic i think) but it's a no voldemort au. basically barty's getting married and evan is his best man except Feelings get in the way. very very cute, quite slow burn but it's very worth it.

Tender Curiosities, Baby! by otrtbs (M, 79k, 6/6) ahh another popular one, it's in the same universe as art heist, baby! which you have probably definitely heard of (it's a fantastic jegulus art heist fic). anywayss yeah this fic focuses on rosekiller and it is so so good, idk if it can be read as a standalone though...cause there are a lot of references to ahb!

Rock Bottom by floretissogay (T, 7.9k, 10/10) super super cute and fluffy rosekiller texting fic, there's like zero angst it's literally just fluff and silliness.

Off the Edge of the Earth, and Farther Still by typhoid_fluu (M, 17k, 11/?) this one hasn't been updated in a while buut it's a canon compliant rosekiller au following them throughout hogwarts starting from first year. super cute, at least so far (cuz they're still in first year).

annoying by facestraightoutamagazine (M, 101k, 31/31) another great texting fic, it's a wrong number au and goddd i'm a sucker for those. this one has like minimal angst, it's all just vibes and silliness, it's super cute and funny and i've reread this one like 3 times.

Say Something by writingamarie (E, 43k, 12/12) PLEASE give this fic more attention i am begging. it's incredible in every aspect - the writing, the characterization, the pacing (especially the pacing omg you'll see what i mean when you read this fic), everything. rosekiller friends with benefits will always be my favorite. please guys just please this fic is so underrated it hurts.

bad idea, right? by sparklejumpropequeen79 (NR, 30k, 13/?) this fic got discontinued but i really liked it while i was reading it so i'm still mentioning it in case you don't mind reading fics that won't be finished? idk. no voldemort au where barty and evan are really stupid about their feelings. typical rosekiller stuff.

show me those pretty white jaws by 214lilacsky (E, 144k, 15/15) recently started reading this one and i do not know what took me so long because holy shit the writing is beautiful, the characterization is beautiful, just like. this whole fic. beautiful. wow. this is a fairly popular one i think and i absolutely see why.

Pickup or Delivery by lifeisabitch (E, 41k, 15/15) this is so so good, i am absolutely obsessed with their characterization and dynamic here. they are absolute freaks and i am living for it.

i would say i love you (but it's so hard, i won't say it at all) by avesgraveyard (M, 74k, 9/?) road trip au with a bunch of other marauders characters, this is super super cute and evan and barty are incredibly bad at feelings (as they always are) and i just. love this so much. i've reread this one many times before.

Since the day he heard the tragic news, James forgot how to breathe properly. The war took something from everyone, but still... James couldn't believe it will took Regulus from all of them. He always remembered that mesmerizing Slytherin boy, his black curls, his sharp greyish eyes, his sweet pale skin covered in tiny moles. Even after life break them apart, even after Regulus betrayed their thrust and joined the Death Eaters, even then James still kept the memories of their early years together.

He was the first one to find out about this. Dumbledore knew that James could make the information easier to swallow, it was his talent. His heartache was more powerful than he expected. The love he had for the Black boy never faded completely. Then, the pain grew stronger when Sirius broke down. Seeing his best friend crying so bad over the loss of his little brother was very hard.

He thought that time will heal all of his sorrows, but then it came. That bloody cursed journal. Sirius asked him to help with Regulus' belongings. His body will never be recovered, but Sirius still wanted a funeral, so he chose to bury some of his brother's clothes and dear objects. That's how James found the journal. He recognized it from their time in Hogwarts. Sometimes, after their lovemaking, Regulus would sit on his stomach and write in his journal. James knew the key charm that opens it, but he never read a single word. He respected Regulus' privacy.

Maybe it was the curiosity and nostalgia or James really believed that it will heal his pain faster, but he took the journal and read it. That's how he found out about everything, about all the secrets. Regulus never betrayed him or Sirius. Sensing the upcoming war, Dumbledore needed a trustworthy Slytherin, someone who would play the double agent role. Someone who could infiltrate along Death Eaters and extort valuable information. Regulus understood from the start how important this is, so he knew that he couldn't tell James anything. He made all of them believe he was just one of the pureblood supremacists and kept contact just with Dumbledore. He gave them informations for years, without anyone knowing.

Regulus loved James too much to put him in danger. He broke up with him so he could protect the most precious thing in his life. After Regulus left, the pages in the journal were filled with James' memory. All of his emotions that he couldn't tell anyone about, some pictures of James and his friends that Dumbledore will sometimes send to him, the loneliness. Regulus never stopped loving him. The last entry was written a few days before his death.

"I can't let Him win. I won't let Him find you. I will destroy Voldemort's soul, this is the only way to end this war. I will kill him, piece by piece, I will finish all of this. And then I will come back. I will come back and I will find you. I want to kiss you so bad, my light. If I knew that our last kiss will actually be the last, I would have made that moment ethernal. I don't know if you still remember me, if you still care. If I die trying to fight for us, I hope my death will be under the morning sun. That way, I could feel the sensation of our last kiss one more time. I didn't have the chance to tell you when we were together, but I love you and I will do so until my last breath. My beloved forever, James."

James Potter is very well acquainted with every single part of his house, though rather few things serve a multitude of functions.

The sink in their en-suite bathroom has served them well for years. From being bent over to puke, to bending others over, there's not a single experience the basin has remained privy of.

From what was once only littered with James’s scarce skin and hair care, the marble around the basin has now found itself regularly covered by Regulus’s items, often enough Sirius’s, Remus’s, or Peter’s too.

It is a thing well beloved, and fully purposed.

So, one can easily imagine their surprise when they get home from the boring and mischief-draining office only to hear frantic shouting which then quiets down into rushed whispers.

“Shit. They’re here.” The voice carries through the house, followed by some loud bang.

“Already?” Ah. The voice of their beloved.

As James enters their bedroom, making their way to the bathroom, too mentally drained to register the worried whispers coming from the bathroom.

Just as they're about to enter, Regulus comes to stand in front of them, trying to slyly close the door behind himself.

“Hi, baby.” He says, and immediately the sickeningly sweet voice and the too wide smile on his face makes James come out of whatever post-work haze they were in.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, James asks, “Hi, love. What'd you guys do now?”

Regulus opens his mouth to immediately decline having taken any part in, or having done anything, uncomely.

“Noth–”

“I swear it wasn't my fault!” Sirius exclaims, quick to deny responsibility.

How alike, yet different are the brothers.

Taking a deep breath, James gently coaxes Regulus out of the way by a well-placed hand on the waist, and makes their way into the bathroom to–

“What the fuck?” yells James, both brothers share a troubled look.

James takes in another deep breath and follows their earlier question by, “No, because actually, what the fuck?” They ask, finger pointing to the basin where it stands, somehow broken in half.

I wouldn't say the angstiest ending because i like happy endings but slow dancing in the dark is the angstiest fic I have, though i want to believe it's more of a hopeful ending :•) (the people who read it might disagree)

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

The Empire of the Sun, it was a big project of mine, one i really liked! it was a jegulus dystopian au, I had the whole idea drafted but I've seen how people treat fics and authors in this fandom, specifically with this pairing and that kinda made me. not want to continue writing it, honestly. Also it's a big ass fic so, I don't think I'll ever finish it anyway.

What are your writing strengths?

I think maybe inner dialogue, I like to ramble a lot inside my little puppet's head so, probably that. I'm kind of an oblivious self-deprecating author so I'm very Unaware of these things.

What are your writing weaknesses?

A year ago I would've said my inability to finish anything but that's not true anymore so, probably the lack of flexibility, sometimes i want something to make sense and i research and I spiral that something is not quite right when in reality this is fucking fiction and i need to calm down and remember is not that serious!! (also long ass sentences like this one... not even a comma im Insane)

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

All in, I even have dialogue in french and spanish in my fics so. I particularly appreciate it when the author leaves the translation in the notes so i know what they're talking about hehe

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

Good Omens, I have a azicrow/ineffable husband's fic in my drafts so, maybe that will see the light of day someday! also, Agatha All Along, agathario, those two tempt me to write something for them....

What's your favorite fic you've written?

I LOVE ANTI HERO SO SO MUCH DUDE like I remember reading it last year and not putting my phone down until it was done, it's a PROBLEM. Whenever I think about reg lives I think about that even when I've read so many others with the concept it's just so...AAAAA. The desert scene of forever stuck in my mind for some reason idk 😭

Pairings in Harry Potter

Hello again everyone!

I think to motivate myself to write posts right away, I should start right now! The first topic I want to choose is my favorite and hated couples in Harry Potter. Both in canon and in fanon. I guess I should start with the pleasant, namely with my absolute "YES! OH MY GOD YES" in couples.

Romione

YES! YES! AND AGAIN YOUR MOTHER YES! They are literally my everything. My soul, heart, feelings, tears. They are my wonderful cats! Their affection for each other is felt from the first books.. I love them as a couple because despite different characters, hobbies and other factors, they have become a wonderful couple that LITERALLY embodies love!

(People who don't like Romione, how do you even live?)

Jily

Such a canon could not pass me by, because, they are CANON. The trope "I will get her and she will be mine" conquers my heart and all the courtship of Lily from James touches and drives me crazy. They are that very transcendentally ideal love that you want to feel and you can die.. (In every sense, considering the fate of this couple)

Remadora

I was a huge fan of them. I was literally rooting for them and I loved watching them until I read the books. The last book destroyed me mentally with its events and plot, but Remus's attitude towards Dora was so disgusting that I wanted to cry. However, I can't suppress my love for these two..

Bleur

Tender, sensual, beloved… I couldn't come to terms with the fact that Fleur wasn't accepted into the family, but by the end of book 6 I breathed a sigh of relief. A wonderful and sweet couple)

Lucissa

As much as the Malfoys are ugly to other people, their family just captivates me. The union of these two purebloods who love each other inspires me!

DRARRY

Yes, yes, I am a sinner, so what? A fan of the trope "from hate to love", "from enemies to lovers" and all that stuff.. Their skirmishes, help in deadly situations, and similar moments fuel my faith in this couple! !! I do not justify Malfoy's bastard actions. He is still the same disgusting character, but their interactions……… Sorry, I can't hold back!!!

Wolfstar

I love this ship and I say yes to it only in the Marauder era. I don't see them together anymore. I just want to think of them as a teenage crush that was and grew into a strong friendship.. (I still believe that Sirius loved Remus until the end, and he was his unattainable love…)

Blaise x Ginny

HERE IS MY ROMAN EMPIRE THAT NO ONE TALKS ABOUT! They are so perfect for each other… There is incredibly little interaction between them, but this only fuels my love and interest in their couple. The dialogue on the train and the meeting in Slughorn's office will remain one of the unsolved universal mysteries for me. They haunt me and I constantly return to thinking about this ship.

Jegulus

A ship that has only recently found its way into my "yes". Despite the fact that I am a rabid fan of Jily, I can't deny myself the pleasure of looking at these two. Why not, I said to myself, and began actively saving art on them)

I think such a post definitely needs a normal ending. And here it is.

hi nonnie!! sorry it took me a few days to get back to u, but u sent such a good and interesting question i had to . properly think it over before i gave you a reply!! i even discussed it a bit with my best friend, even tho her knowledge on the topic of the marauders is limited to what i've told her + the couple of fics i've convinced her to read lol

anyways !! i used to be a mythology nerd so this ask genuinely made me swoon !! thank u for sending it and encouraging me to rant about both my fav ships AND greek myths <3

for jegulus i feel like it's a bit obvious.. they're so orpheus and eurydice coded.. to me.. it's all about devotion and being incapable to accept a lost love or move on and yet not being able to save the other person, or bring them back, bc it's been doomed since the start. but it was still beautiful while it lasted, and any of them looking back is proof that the love was there in the first place, and that it mattered!!

i could also see them as pygmalion and galatea (shout out to my beloved mil !!) bc i feel like their dynamic, especially in a canon context, is a lot about . them idealising each other in a way . about loving each other bc of what they represent . regulus has james in a pedestal, he sees him as this beacon of good and kindness and he loves him because of that. always from a certain distance, knowing it's bound to end at some point bc he's rotten and he isn't allowed to taint something as perfect as james. not like he'd want to, anyway. and james !! he sees regulus as something beautiful but broken that he's meant to fix. he thinks that if he treats him well and loves him right, reg will change and will choose him exactly like sirius did. he thinks he can mold him in what james thinks is the best version of him, bring out the good he's sure hides somewhere deep inside of reg. ultimately, they're both wrong, and are basing their love in what's simply an ideal etc etc

for pandalily.. they're the amazons <3 powerful warrior women who rejected and rebelled against a men-dominated society <3

they're also very scylla and charybdis coded to me.. two terrifying monsters in the mediterranean sea.. ships being forced to navigate between the two creatures and it almost always ending in tragedy.. their relationship + love is very . monstruous and twisted, in the best way, because they embrace each other's ugly sides and encourage them. they love each other not in spite of them, but because of them. they love violently and intensely, and what might seem grotesque and dangerous and plain wrong from an outsider's perspective it just . works for them . they're happy in that chaos and destruction <3

i could also see them as alcyone and ceyx, mostly in the sense of being this arrogant couple who dares to compare themselves to the gods and ends up being punished for it, because i feel that's very accurate to the version of pandalily i have in my head. also alcyone killing herself after ceyx died, ready to follow him anywhere, even to the afterlife??? that's pandalily. they wouldn't be that . upset or devastated about it i don't think, but the point is that if one of them dies, the other is killing themselves right after, no questions asked

as for bartylily.. it can only be hades and persephone to me.. persephone being demeter's precious sweet daughter and hades being the king of the underworld, always an outsider even around the gods. her having so many suitors but hades being the most persisting one.. softening around her and being utterly fascinated by her freshness and her beauty.. resorting to kidnapping her bc he knew her mother would never approve of their union.. persephone eating from the pomegranate and ending up bound to the underworld.. her being the emobodiment of spring but also becoming the queen of the underworld.. idk i feel like the duality is very . lily . (or at least it's very my lily) and this being such a controversial myth, with so many ppl arguing about if persephone truly ended up falling for hades or if the time she spends down there with him is always against her will, if she was tricked into eating the pomegranate seeds by her husband or if she did so willingly, etc etc, it all fits bartylily incredibly well!! i'm also personally very fond of the story so that's always a bonus

Jegulus + neck kisses

It is now one shot dump time! Say thank you to Corr who gave me enough serotonin to do this stuff and actually show the world my writing.

Regulus lazily strolled through Hogwarts’ corridors, his outer robe left in his dormitory after lunch. The sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up, showing a carefully manufactured image of a self-assured heir to the Black family.

It was a warm day. Most of the students were outside during the long free time after lunch. They all desperately grasped the moments of free time. Oh well. He was free until Pandora or Barty would decide that he needed his annual dose of sunlight.

He strolled down the corridor, his bag hanging from his shoulder. He still had to finish his essay for Potions and read two chapters for DADA. Right, and Transfi-

He was suddenly yanked into one of the classrooms he walked beside. His body was thrown against one of the desks. Two strong arms, with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows revealing perfect brown skin, caged him against the desk. He looked up at the person, slightly scared, because you didn’t get manhandled into an empty classroom everyday. His fear turned into annoyance when his eyes finally landed on the person’s face.

-Jamie.

His voice was snarky and annoyed, reflectring the feelings probably seen in his eyes. James Potter was standing in front of him, with his infuriating glasses and his infuriating fluffy hair and those bottomless eyes that reflected his pale face.

-Hello, lovely. -James’ voice was not its usual cheerful tone that made Regulus’ muscles twitch (his face muscles. Specifically the ones around his lips. Jamie called it a smile.). The other man’s voice was weirdly calm and collected. reserved.

-You are not your usual annoying self today. - it wasn’t a question, more like a statement. - Why?

Jamie’s eyes darkened dangerously (no, Regulus did not like that look. Absolutely not.) and he tilted his head to the side. He was much taller than Regulus and he had to bend over slightly to look him in the eyes.

-That Ravenclaw boy was awfully friendly with you at breakfast.

Oh.

Oh.

So this was it. James Potter, sunshine of Hogwarts, the happiest man Regulus knew, was jealous. Oh boy.

In this moment Regulus realized he played a little too close to the fire. His innocent playing of the Ravenclaw boy to get him to help with his Herbology project might have gotten him into trouble.

You have to understand, dear reader, James Potter was not a jealous man. He did not get angry with Regulus. He did not get jealous of Regulus. He was not possessive of Regulus.

He knew, no matter who Regulus flirted with to get something he wanted, that James Potter in the end was the one who Regulus came back to. He was the brotherfucker, a title earned through tears, sweat and even a little bit of blood. He was the man Regulus trusted the most beside his beloved brother. He was the man his heart yearned for. He was the man who infuriated Regulus to no end but still pulled him back over and over again.

So when James Potter gets jealous because some Ravenclaw boy (who in the end had an ugly personality and Regulus would not consider him even if James never existed) tried getting cozy with him, it surprised the younger Black brother. Not a lot of things surprised Regulus Black.

-Are you jealous, Jamie? - he coos in a mockingly sweet tone and tilts his head.

And then, much to Regulus’ dread, James growls and grabs his jaw roughly. For just a second a jolt of fear washes through Regulus and his breath hitches. James seems to realize in what position exactly his long fingers were. The rough look in his eyes dims a bit and he moves his grip lover, instead resting his hand on Regulus’ long and thin neck.

His thumb brushes over Regulus’ pulse and his head leans closer.

-I am. I really, really am.

James’ hand wasn’t restraining his breathing or his blood flow whatsoever, more just holding him. Showing him exactly what this situation was.

Regulus cast his gray eyes down and sighed.

-I’m sorry, Jamie. I wasn’t flirting with him, y’know. At least not more than normally. - his voice was gentle and apologetic.- He was kinda… pushy.

James slowly shakes his head. He keeps his eyes on Regulus, like he was trying to look into his soul.

-I know. I’m not mad.- James’ voice was gentle but it held a certain dangerous edge to it. That edge, unfortunately, made the little hairs on Regulus’ nape stand up.

-Then why did you manhandle me into the classroom, if you’re not mad?

-I don’t need to be mad at you to want to mark you as my own.- His voice was a low growl. Oh good lord.

James leaned in and pressed his nose to Regulus’ soft skin. He inhaled deeply and sneaked his hand around to the back of Regulus’ head. He threaded his long fingers into his soft hair and tugged gently.

Regulus took a deep breath and fixed his position. His knees were weak and trembling, the only thing keeping him upright was sheer willpower and the desk he was pressed against. James seemed to see the movement and smirked against Regulus’ skin.

Regulus didn’t think about this too much. He thought that maybe James would just ignore it and continue with whatever was happening right now. Maybe, if he was particularly unlucky, his lover would tease him about it. But no. On this day, in a matter of maybe ten minutes, James Potter managed to surprise his beloved boyfriend, Regulus Black, not once but twice.

James’ hands roughly gripped under his thighs and lifted his slim body up. Regulus was set on the desk, his legs on either side of the taller man’s body. His hands were keeping him upright, braced on the cold surface of the desk behind him.

-This okay, baby?

In a moment of sweetness, James stilled and murmured into his pale skin. Regulus wasn’t sure if he could trust his lips to properly work so he just nodded. He felt the other grin into his neck.

And then three things happened. James pulled his head back with the tight grip on his black hair. Regulus whined.

James smiled.

James sighed.

James sunk his teeth into Reggie’s pale skin.

Regulus Black was always taught how to be a respectable young man. One part of that was learning to never react too much. Not cry, not scream, not yell. So when James’ teeth sunk into his neck a very surprising thing happened. Regulus yelped in surprise and his whole body jolted. His hips accidently bucked agaisnt James’ own. Oh, no. This was bad. This was very, very bad. (Also, Reggie just realised, James was slowly building a life record of how many times a person could surprise him in their lifetime. Regulus thought taht if someone were to actually do it, he was glad it landed on James.)

James leaned back and looked Regulus in the eyes. He had to basically loom over Regulus’ form to properly hold eye contact with him.

-Oh, baby… Did you like that?

Regulus blushed wildly at James’ sweet tone. He grumbled and shook his head.

-No. I didn’t like it. You just surprised me, that’s all.

James snickered and chuckled darkly.

-Mhm, sure. Whatever you say, baby.- James said in a sarcastic tone. Regulus should not like that pet name so much, damn it! He was the heir to the house of Black, for god’s sake.

Regulus scowled at James and leaned back on his arms.

-Of course taht’s what happened, you bastard. You’re not all that, no matter what the gryffindor girls say.

James tilted his head to the side and grinned at him.

-Really? So you wouldn’t mind if I just left, would you?- and then he pushed himself off the desk and took two steps back. Oh no.

-Wait!- James smirked but stilled. He waved his hand in the air, motioning for Regulus to continue.- I… OKay, maybe I did like it a little bit.- he grumbled and put his head down in slight shame.

James stepped closer and caged him with his arms again. His fluffy hair was covering his eyes a little bit. He blew some air up to clear his vision and smiled that goofy, annoying and absolutely stunning smile of his that was reserved for his beloved.

-There you go, baby.- his voice was a confident coo.- Good job.

Regulus crumbled. He put his head down to hide the angry blush spreading over his heels and grumbled something even he wasnt sure what it was.

James chuckled and kissed his cheek tenderly. He didn’t force him to look at him or something. He never did, he just accepted that sometimes eye contact was just too much and he would not get it even if he tried. He also knew that forcing Reggie into looking at him would end very, very badly. He witnessed it first hand when some bastard from Slytherin tried to pull that. It was an ugly sight.

And then James dove in and started pretty much ravaging his neck. He bit, he sucked, he nibbled. The sensations pulled little broken noises out of Regulus. He seemed to revel in them and tried different spots just to hear them all.

Regulus struggled with the sensations. James’ lips sucking on his skin, leaving angry purple marks that would probably take at least a week to fade. His teeth nibbling the skin on his collarbones in the most gentle way possible. The full on bites made to the soft flesh of his shoulder, not enough to break skin (he would kill James if he ever actually bit him. Maybe he licked having visual proof of their relationship on his skin but scars were just too much, god damn it.) but enough to make him whimper and throw his head back in a lazy motion.

James leaned back and looked at him, his cheeks red and his lips covered in spit.

-You okay, baby?- he gently brushed Regulus’ fluffy hair back and out of his face. His eyes were awfully tender, now that he got his need to mark Regulus up out of his system. Reggie hated how that look made his stomach flip.

He took a moment to take a deep breath and gather the reality around him. James’ hands were on his thighs, grounding him and providing him with a consistent sensation he could focus on. Damn that perceptive bastard.

Regulus nodded and took another deep breath.

-Yeah. I think I’m okay.- His words were slow and weirdly intentional, like it took a lot of effort to get them out. james squeezed his thighs, not too little but not too roughly either. Just right.

-Can I continue?- His dear asked in a gentle tone. He kept his face leveled with Regulus’, even if they didn’t hold eye contact.

Regulus only nodded.

-...Do you want me to continue?

This was their issue. James Potter was just too perceptive of Regulus’ reactions for the younger to keep any secret around him. Damn him and his stupid, kind heart.

Regulus took a moment to thinkl about the question. He thought for a long time, longer than it usually took him. James was there the whole time, keeping his big, warm hands on his thighs.

He slowly nodded. He realized he had been running the tips of his fingers over the veins on James’ hands to soothe himself. He didn’t stop the motion, despite his embarrassment.

-Do you remember what to say if it gets too much?

James’ voice was so infuriatingly gentle and soothing as he spoke to him. He didn’t demand, he didn’t rush him. He let him take his time and find the words in the mess that was now his mind.

He took a deep breath and tried to get the word out. Then he tried again. He parted his lips and focused very hard on getting this one word out for his dear.

-Petrichor.

James’ grin widened impossibly. He leaned in and pressed a sweet kiss to his forehead.

-Good job, baby. Thank you.

Regulus blushed and dipped his head forward. He put his forehead on James’ wide shoulder and sighed happily. Even when words would get a little too hard for Reggie, James would make sure he was okay and that he felt loved. He knew how sometimes Regulus would drown in his own thoughts.

-Okay, and can you show me what to do if words get too hard?

Regulus thought for a moment. He then brought his hand higher on James’ forearm and wrapped his thin fingers around his strong arm. He squeezed his arm three times, the first squeeze long and the other ones short.

-Mhm, that’s it. Good job, baby.

Regulus blushed and grumbled into James’ shoulder. The other laughed at his reaction, the kind of laugh that would make Reggie’s heart skip a beat and do a flip. The taller man dipped his head lower and attached his lips to a spot above Regulus’ collarbone that wasn’t yet covered with a bite or a hickey. He slowly moved along his skin, filling in the gaps he left before. His touch was less urgent, less possessive, more gentle. It was like the result mattered less than the process in this moment. There was always one warm hand on Regulus’ thigh, under his own smaller, pale hand. It made him feel assured that no matter what, he had control over what happened to him. That no one ever would make him hold eye contact or do something to him he didn't like.

He whimpered and let his head roll back, revealing more of his pale skin. James snaked a hand under his slightly long hair and put a big hand on the back of his neck, supporting his head and letting his neck relax. He gently put his thumb behind Reggie’s ear and so softly moved his head to the side to kiss and nip at the spot behind his other ear.

The hand on his thigh squeezed him, seemingly in a silent question. He squeezed back, his hand shaking just a little.

James moved to the other side of his neck, rolling his head gently in his grip. He was so tender about it, so soft and careful.

They would emerge from the classroom forty minutes later, Regulus's hair tussled and fluffed up from being held so much. And if he walked a little funny and paid a bit more attention to keeping his neck covered, then damn him for having little joys in life every now and then.

this was so beautifully written and well plotted, it had some of the best scenes and dialogues, and had me swooning, in shock, all of that

(particularly regulus') character development!!! insane!!! this has left me unsatiable, jegulus has me in a chokehold

oh the romance was so sweet, and ever so rewarding after all of the hurt, both jegulus and wolfstar

my only complaint is that its way too long like i lost so much sleep over this, at the end i was so impatient i kept skipping all the side characters povs cos i just wanted to be done with it

it took 80k words to get to the start of the games .... what did i get myself into. and i saw tiktoks going like the jegulus WEDDING ?!?!?!?!?! love it when sirius cannot form coherent sentences around remus, but he needs some distraction they literally have the worse luck ever. I'm so glad they dont have horrible communication issues, maybe because theyre all about to die.

oh and if the jegulus parting 'present' wasnt the saddest way to separate especially since they think theyre going to die

aside, i keep comparing sirius to quackity in that hunger games fic and then i remember how much better the dsmp fanfics were especially since i can actually recall the details after like 2 years. back when i thought 100k+ was a long fic oh how naive

so so far, pretty good, im invested in the story enough to not be bored but not THAT invested

im fuckin invested. why whyyyy so much pain. regulus never fails to be the most hurt in any room aye. and james being touch starved?!? i lived for that shit.

why was it that reading about the games was so thrilling. the life/death oml give my boys a fucking break. they're out now and still no comfort, the only break theyre getting is a break up wtf!!

asides about the games, james was just a dumbass about peter, evan my beloved as always (and glad that the author shares that sentiment), and what the fuck regulus just realising at the end that he had nothing to live for if james died asfhhdsjjfsgjjf

honestly the lack of a mcd tag is the only thing getting me through this. the hope!! i relate to regulus so much on that.

and that's also the only reason im forgiving them for all being fucking IDIOTS and not making the most of their time together. now is the time to profess your love and get your spine realigned my darlings

why is there literally a force field preventing james and regulus from being happy together??? well im not complaining too much because that means that anything they do now is extra special. regulus not being able to resist james??? gahhh im gone.

also them having tea together and actually starting to heal oh theyre so sweet they dont deserve that cruel world.

they literally chose the worst time ever to make up, at least they did at some point, but man they really confessed and got engaged right before... probable death...

oh the amount of pain my poor boys are going through, i wish they can all escape and live in some cozy domestic paradise with everyone they love. but they have to suffer first otherwise the happiness in the end doesn't count for anything.

CRYING regulus trying to get sirius to kill him and then going soft at the last moment, and i can't believe sirius almost got baited like that and was really about to kill him. but REGULUS, oh my, my sweet gentle boy, he tried so hard, and the aftermath left everyone in fucking pieces.

regulus is on his way to being my favourite and it's entirely cos he's so angsty and unhinged. following through with all of his threats??? fucking hilarious, and his desperate love confessions and having a meltdown every 2 seconds. hes a wreck GET HELP.

sirius, such a literal icon, i strive for his level of don't give a fuck. "what pasta"?!?! my god i love him. hes so gone on remus its sickening. when dumbles asked for his blood, sirius being possessive?!?! if i was remus i would have folded right then and there, literally sold, this man owns him

james high and being obsessed with regulus the angel?!!! im swooning, literal heart attack material. best scene so far.

i love regulus' character development, hes levelled up to be james' first man. goodbye sirius but tbh he has more than enough problems on his own. oh jegulus is so achingly sweet i will not shut up about it. this is the reward after reading through so much couples angst. they love each other so much IM CRYING, the way regulus looked after him after the rescue mission, in all the ways that James didn't after the first games, oh they're finally together and happy, i would die for them.

i am PISSED at how long this fic is. the amount of nothing that I've done these past few days to read this, after this im going to exclusively read one shots for a whole entire week.
