i think i've finally been able to place why i (and many others) take issue w the "toxic" apologists in the fandom: “this is why X did what they did” is not the same as “this is why X is validated for doing what they did”.

so often when i read posts and analysis from those fans, they state to look at things from X's perspective and why they did what they did. which like, dont get me wrong, is cool! i love to know motivations and its fun to speculate on. but that is not the same as "what they did is RIGHT" which is the heart of what apologist discourse IS. making an apologist post about a character then only stating that characters personal motivation implies that their motivation is "right" which just.... frequently isn't true.

knowing that c!dream was annoyed by c!tommy, that he was angered by him doubting if the revive book was real, that he wanted to know about the afterlife, or whatever you want to say while in the prison is cool. but it doesn't justify his actions at all. he still killed a man in cold blood, no matter what that can't be erased.

knowing c!techno feels betrayed by c!tommy choosing lmanberg over him as well as seeking revenge against lmanberg for his failed execution and their treatment of phil is good! hell, even somewhat understandable and respectable! but it doesnt make him immune to other critique or plain just being disliked for his actions regardless. it doesn't erase the issues other characters (or fans of those other characters) may have with (or because) of what he did just because "he had a good reason".

when a fan of a character says "yeah X fucked up and i find that fun/intriguing", i respect the hell out of that. when they instead say "actually X didn't fuck up bc of this reason--", i take more issue because frequently they have no explanation for it being "okay" beyond the characters motive. that the motive IS the justification, without other reasoning being required no matter how fucked up or bad the action. its especially bad bc thats when a lot of victim-blaming kind of takes tend to pop up (looking at you, c!dream)

tldr; just like when discussing mental health, its a case of "explains, not excuses". just because someone has a reason they act like they do doesn't automatically make their actions okay.

Would reviving Ghostbur kill revived bur, I just want them to exist at the same time I'm indecisive

realistically, probably? Cant have the ghost of a living person running around 95% of the time at least I’d say

Personally I lean “revivedbur learns self love and acceptance by accepting that ghostbur (who he openly loathes and sees as weak and useless) is a part of him and the two kind of merge back into One Being”, if only bc it’s better than limbo.

Kind of fucks over ghostbur on the whole “I am my own separate person with my own issues and experiences” thing but like….. maybe another part of the arc would be ghostbur learning to see alivebur as more than a villain and that he is also a very real part of ghostbur and an individual person as well with his own issues which pushed him into a bad place and to make bad decisions.

the whole thing with them is that they are, at the core, the same person but with very different circumstances (trauma vs amnesia, ghostbur’s living actions vs Wilbur’s time in train hell, etc). But they also hate the other person and see them as the weakest/worst parts of themselves. I would want them both to be able to recognize each other’s worth and that they ARE the same and that’s okay before ending with just…. Wilbur. No more “ghostbur” no more “revivedbur” hell not even any “lmanbur” or “vilbur”. He can just be… WILBUR.

this post is a lil crit, so if that’s not your cup of tea feel free to keep scrolling but I feel like this was a lot like the disc finale but Worse.

In the disc war we saw a LOT of the good guys losing. Tommy’s exile and Doomsday aren’t disc war specific, but they fuel the dynamic: good guys lose, bad guys win. So when the finale pulls a deus ex machina out it’s ass so the good guys win it’s satisfying! Finally, they won against this unbeatable force, that we know is unbeatable bc of past experiences. It’s euphoric.

W this one, it feels worse bc the eggpire rlly... Hasnt won a lot. They’re what, a total of 5 ppl? W the majority of the server disliking them and/or actively gunning to destroy them? They’ve barely had a win, at least not in the way that we’ve seen previously in villians. This was their chance for a big win and so they’d be taken seriously (bc, let’s be real, a LOT of ppl (big streamers esp who weren’t/aren’t as involved) tend to treat the eggpire/egg arc very light heartedly and comedically which makes it hard for fans of those streamers who only watch them to CARE about in a serious manner). They got one kill before the deus ex machina broke in and saved everyone, took one of the Eggpire members’ life (so it kinda ties via death count), and forced them to flee away from their egg. They LOST before they could win, they were always outnumbered. It doesn’t feel as satisfying as something like the disc war finale did because of all of that, yknow?

Not to say I didn’t enjoy it! Frankly a Big Q and Techno team up is fun and something I and many others have been wanting for a while! Purpled parallels Punz w being a mercenary for money! I’m just really into the eggpire, so seeing something so big for them blow up can feel a little disappointing
