Headcannon that Jason is so touch-starved from isolating himself and convincing himself he hates his family, so when he starts reconnecting with them, he’s caught off guard by how weird he gets with human contact

Getting back to the cave after a patrol

Dick: “Great work today guys!” *pats Jason on the shoulder*

Jason, brain malfunctioning: “Uh-I-uh- fuck you!” *runs away*

Dick, with tears in his eyes: “.. I was just- I’m sorry?”

And like it gets to a point where Jason is so weirded out by how much it affects him so he starts going to a hair salon. He figures that they touch your scalp so much, he’d be cured within 2 visits, but he ends up liking it there and is now a regular customer.

So he knows all the gossip with his hairstylist, Janice, and her next door neighbors who keep stealing her garbage can. And he knows about Mary, another regular, and how she can’t get married to her new boyfriend because her ex-husband refuses to sign the divorce papers.

The bats have started to notice the increasing quality in his hair, but refuse to outright ask him about it. They’re also very confused at the random names he throws out there occasionally during moments together

Tim, working on a school project and throwing out lots of plastic

Jason, walking by and remembering a salon girl majoring in environmental studies: “Ooh, Gracey would NOT like that.”

Tim: ???

Eventually, they see Jason through the window of the salon while they’re passing by, and see him talking to the older ladies and waving around a hairbrush like he owns the place.

Yet there in their own Lazarus Pit, the one in the cave not the giant one somewhere under the rest of Gotham, was a literal baby, looking just as surprised as he was. Of course that didn’t last, and its face scrunched up as it started to cry, which was his first hint that no, this was not in fact a hallucination.

Probably a sign that I am cursed by the waters of evil and that I came back wrong."

Obviously, the first time it happens with Dick, Bruce loses his mind when he gets the call from the school that Dick got picked up by somebody that wasn't Alfred.

By the time Damian comes around, Bruce just sighs and asks if it was by a parent named "Clark."

I was wondering if you think Jason and Roy could genuinely be friends or even just work together in canon, including Roy’s canon personality and history (his addiction, lian, relationship with jade, the titans, the arrowfam, etc). And including Jason’s canon personality and history (even though that completely changes like. Every 5 years lmao)

I’m kinda divided on it because I think it can be fun but every time a writer has tried they’ve either butchered Roy or both of them :/

Also feel free to ignore this because I know you probably don’t want to deal with Jason stuff lol

To be honest I think that anyone can be friends with anyone. Excluding the New 52, Roy and Jason have been friendly together when Jason was Robin, and while it’s easy to say “Roy would never want to associate with Jason!” That just isn’t really the kind of person he is. I feel like a lot of the time when people are criticising Jayroy, particularly in terms of the butchering of Roy’s character in the New 52, they kinda tend to go to an opposite but equal extreme- rejecting Roy’s feelings towards Jason in the New 52 by also getting his character wrong but in an opposite direction. One of Roy’s key defining traits is that he is incredibly forgiving, and I don’t think he’d immediately reject Jason as a friend without trying to help him especially since he already knew Jason before he died. I’m in no means a Jason expert so take what I’m saying here with a pinch of salt, my dearly beloved friend @bitter-hibiscus is definitely a way better source for this sort of thing, but that’s my thoughts :)

Thinking about writing a batfam fic where they meet the future versions of themselves and none of the past batfam can focus on asking their future selves any ‘thoughtful’ and ‘important’ questions because Jason in the future is fucking two feet taller and is the tallest of the family what the FUCK NO This is AWFUL this can not—

basically batfam have a mental breakdown at the fact that their little guy becomes an absolute brickhouse because it is just wrong.

Robin Jason is of course a sweetie pie but is also definitely rubbing it in their faces pointing to himself and redhood saying “Im taller than you guys! See? See?” over and over again

And Redhood Jason awkwardly shifts around standing in the corner because he was NOT expecting such a ‘warm’ welcome

was going through my docs while waiting and i came across this little para from a wip for the jaybi longfic. i havent really gotten too deep into jason's lore yet but there's something so interesting about characters who went through that one event™ that changed their entire life (ajax with falling into the abyss, jason with dying, chrollo with sarasa, and aven with his people being killed). it's the grief and the feelings from who they were before, especially if they were living normal, fulfilling lives before that tragedy.

i might be characterizing jaybi wrong, im not sure i havent read too much source material yet (i will in due time dw and make necessary adjustments), but i feel like jason would have such conflicting feelings for someone he has known before and after the event™, especially if it's someone he was even remotely close to, or in this case, had feelings for. im not talking about romantic feelings pre-event™, im talking about platonic feelings. the romantic feelings come later after both parties go through a lot. so yeah it's kind of a friends to lovers story? idk. havent completely planned it yet. i might just make it so that there are feelings but they're being denied.

what i love more with these kinds of characters is a character who is their reflection but "better". in magenta die, cyan bullet, reader is literally a wretched image of aventurine and he, at first, hates it. i want to go a similar route for jaybi. "Good lord, get out of my life and leave me alone. Don't ever fucking come back. I don't want anything to do with you." to "Please don't go. Please stay. Hold my hand and take me wherever you go, and please don't let go. Don't go where I can't follow. I want to be with you." The avoidance at first comes from him not being able to stand the normal life reader ends up with, the things reader ends up with that should have been his. he can't stand it and he hates it so he distances himself. things do not work in his favour and even the slightest nudge from reader makes him weak. reader would hardly even extend a finger and he'd grab her entire hand and clutch it to his chest.

this might be a mischaracterization and im terribly sorry if it is. im going to get to more source material as soon as i can because jason is genuinely, thirsting aside, my favourite type of character (he also gets plus points for being such a sweetheart)

I need Steph and Cass calling them out of nowhere because they wanna binge Legally Blonde. I need Duke dropping in on them in the middle of the morning to bother them. And more importantly, I need them older daughtering Bruce and acting like they only show up to eat what Alfred cooks

Pleasee note that ive been reading all the Jason comics in order of release (started at flying todds jaybin currently at rhato), I've only read countdown once, my memory issues are a bitch, and everything is subject to change for forever 👍

I'm like, basing this whole ramble off my memory of events, and no rereading means no potential updating of feelings on it

To start on positives, I love many concepts and characters it brings to the table and all the different earths traveling they do, I think Donna, Jason, and Kyle are a fun trio as well, and their adventures are delightful. The different earths are all very interesting and i dearly wish we got to have more focus on them. I may not like it being so long but ehhh I've considered rereading it on occasion. The issues counting down are also a fun gimmick as well.

One of my problems is the like. Main story. It feels pretty messy just to like, read though. The extra issues onto the main 52 don't help. Not being familiar with that many dc characters in general doesn't help (was more of a marvel kid). Don't really remember how many character stories we were following in there anymore, it just felt like alot and I genuinely can't remember where half of them led

I ALSO. Skimmed it a bit. Especially later. That's on me. But to be fair to me it's 50 issues and I just don't think I'm big on long comic stories like that. in general. So it was always doomed to fail in the test of my personal opinion

(My favorite crossover comic so far has been legends, just to hammer that above point in)

I dont like the ending where they all hang out in a bunker on the good earth and the virus they have is spreading to just. kill that entire world. And they just go home after that. That's like, that felt weird. I'm just not big on heros accidentally slowly killing an entire universe. That just like. Hhhhng. Um. You know when the stakes get so big and bad they just kinda suck? If that's what I mean??

While I do like looking into Superboy Prime and Jason's resurrection. Don't like his dialogue here. Don't know if that's normal for him or not though

I felt a teensy bit validated when I looked it up after reading and saw many others not liking it I fear

But ignoring at all that. (Because while important to acknowledge when talking about my problems with it, most of what I just had to say is unfair to it)

My knowledge is on Jason. Let's focus on Jason

Jason just kinda. Sucks? He sucks in this. Do not get me wrong Jason is absolutely allowed to be an asshole, I won't ignore those edges. But he was more like,,, a generic asshole? He didn't feel like Jason to me, just more like, a template character or something. There are fun interactions and moments he has but just. Bwah. And it feels like a very strange turn too because for the first few issues I was actually really enjoying the Jason here. I'm not sure what happened

(Fun fact this is the first comic I felt showed Jason as angry. Actual "wow that guy is angry". the angry i was expecting when i started reading him. It was when Dick and Tim interrogated him, I actually think about this moment alot in some of my vague rambling thoughts on Jason, his anger, and how the controlled narrative after his death effects how people expect him to react and thus treat him. Its neat. I thought his interaction with Jimmy was fun and it's a neat contrast bc Jimmy and Dick n Tim were asking the same questions. I enjoyed the early issues of countdown alot, which I think made it have a harder fall for me)

But back to the bad. He's also. Consistently looking down on female heros? Excluding Donna but like. I can't remember it all exactly. but I do remember, that I felt very very very nervous when they said they were going to the genderswap dimension next (he didn't say anything here tho, actually)

Jason also just sorta,, very consistently gets beat up and knocked down? Felt very 'wow look at this guy he sucks don't you think he sucks. Do you want to see him get beat up constantly and not win any fight.' And there's no payoff to this at all. Nothing changes, nothing gets better, he immediately throws the red robin costume in the trash and we never talk about any of this ever again. He's just sorta an asshole punching bag the whole time and it's not something I enjoy. He gets into fights and gets put down and no one likes him. He doesn't even get to have fun while he's here, iirc he's basically just miserable and trying to get this over with the whole time. Kinda distantly wanted him to not leave the victorian era gotham, just a little bit, just a tad, to be real

And there's just a bit of whiplash to his whole character. We go from silly and carefully planning and competent to. Gestures vaguely. There is NO DOUBT very fun analysis about Jason you could do with this and the whiplash. But its not something I personally want to do with countdown
