something that I think would be, truly one of the worst things about the yandere Batfamily really truly is their power to make any and every problem you've ever had completely go away in no time at all
it can be such an awful feeling to see that you struggled in vain with something that was nothing at all to someone else. You could have significant issues that have followed you all your life and have had traumatic impacting effects on you and these people could come in and sweep that all away. Student loans you've been paying off for years, if not a fraction of your lifespan, still burying you in debt? We are talking fucking decimal points on the scale of Bruce Wayne's wealth. That bad leg from an old work injury? Let's grab you one of the best doctors in Gotham, if not the entire world, fuck, we may even get you a doctor or medicine that isn't even human-made! Y'all want a magic leg? We know this chick who can speak backwards, you want a magically healed leg?
Crippling loneliness? Eternal sunshine and objectively best Robin Dick Grayson is here to brighten your entire world since he knows what it can feel like to be hurting and alone and he's literally like the heart and soul of the entire manor besides Alfred
Chronic pain, an undiagnosed disability, or maybe you're not confident in your fitness? Jason has extensive knowledge of injury recovery, physical therapy, and overall knowledge about human biology and musculature and how everything correlates
Family issues? Daddy issues? Let Resident Troubled Kid Expert Alfred Pennyworth be your new grandpa. He's dealt with more than one temperamental snappy individual, and he'll use his patience, experience, and wit to wear down all your stress and hostility. It's hard to keep being cruel to someone who's nothing but kind to you, and he has plenty of patience and delicious baked treats to hold out until you give in
Honestly just the fact most of them are so fucking young would get under my skin. You could be approaching your 30s and be sitting here at the Wayne family dinner table as their weird sister/mom/girlfriend/whatever and being all "I've just always had these struggles my entire life, I dont know what's wrong with me, I feel like I can't control how I act or feel and I hate it" and someone like Tim who depending on the source material and where you are on the timeline is a literal teenager with extensive knowledge of criminals and psychology is just over here, "oh, that? You have chronic childhood trauma, recurring resurfacing conflict related ptsd, severe abandonment issues, emotional regulation problems that are probably biological, and also you probably have autism, and there's nothing wrong with any of that :)" and then he turns to Bruce and starts talking about how his school is taking a trip abroad to Greece while you sit there processing that everyone around the table has extensively psychologically evaluated you and you probably have your own file on the Batcomputer (you do. It's excessive.)
It's just. The psychology of having all these problems you've struggled with be wiped away by someone else like it's nothing and how, that can result in making someone feel all the more worthless and helpless. Oh, Bruce was able to just make all your problems disappear? Clearly YOU weren't trying hard enough. Tim is able to suss out what's wrong with you? Well YOU'RE the dysfunctional idiot who was born wrong, and YOU were the one choosing the wrong doctors. You're watching all these young teenagers or young adults be vigilantes and travel the world and learn multiple languages and you're like. Normal guy Steve from the grocery store. You know? They take control of your life and make you feel like a side character in it, because everything you do is now attached to them, and all of them and all of their adventures are so... spectacular
And really, someone with a meaner heart, and maybe someone more blunt like, say, Damian, could perhaps come in and make some comment, "see? This is why you needed our assistance in caring for you" and what are you gonna do, NOT act like they basically fixed your entire life in less than a year's time, with the one objection of kidnapping and imprisonment? You're just over here, "um yeah, actually, I'm an adult and I can take care of myself, you don't need to TAKE CARE OF ME???" meanwhile Bruce and Alfred are exchanging knowing looks while you speak as if the old butler hadn't needed to help you call your doctor and other important urgent matters because being on the phone with strangers gave you such intense anxiety. Ok yes sure honey you are a lovely functional adult and your brain is big and beautiful and perfect 🥰 now shut up about going to live back home on your own, go play Xbox with your new brothers or go bake something with Grandpa while the world's greatest detective sits down in the Batcave using the Batcomputer to track down and "have a friendly chat" with that one childhood teacher that gave you that one really specific trauma-

Hii I am more of a silent reader but really want to start making requests but if you don't like this request you totally don't have to do it. All so if this is too long sorry.
So maybe a Jason prompt with "why not them why me" like they have been spending more time with the Bat boys, making Jason jealous. They confesses they did it to be liked by her boyfriend's family.
Hey anon! Thanks for the request. I tweaked it a little, but it's got the same theme you requested. Hope you like!
jason todd x gn!reader. jealous/sad jason, happy ending, proposal, established relationship. he's the goodest boy. ft the batbros.
****
It's close to nine PM when Dick finally drops you off home.
You turn to Damian first and hold out your hand, expecting him to give you his usual handshake goodbye.
Instead, Damian pats your shoulder and gives you a nod. You blink, startled.
"Today was enjoyable," he says, holding the book about saltwater creatures that he got from the zoo. "I will inform Todd that he has chosen well."
In Damian speak, you may as well have gotten a hug and a blessing.
"Oh," you say, trying not to tear up. "Thank you, Damian. I had a good time, too. Thank you both for spending the day with me."
"This was a test," Damian says, and Dick rolls his eyes in the rear view mirror.
"Dami, stop calling it a test. It wasn't a test."
"Richard, I don't know why you insist on lying. They obviously have figured out that it was a test. In any case, they've passed, so it doesn't matter."
You hide a smile as Dick gives up and gets out of the car. He opens your door.
"I'll see you later, Damian," you say. "Good luck with your science test."
"I do not need luck," Damian replies. "But I appreciate the sentiment. Goodbye."
You follow Dick into your apartment building. You're happy; last week, you spent the day with Tim and Cassandra. The week before that, you officially met Bruce and Alfred.
Dick and Damian were the last "test," and the ones you were most nervous about. From what Jason's told you about his family, Dick and Damian, while total opposites in temperament, are extremely shrewd in their judgments of character, and not easy to please. For all that Dick is friendly and warm, you know he's studying your every move to ensure that you're a good match for his little brother. Not that you blame them; you're sure that being children of a billionaire has resulted in some awful dates.
Today was your fourth outing with Dick, and your second with Damian. At first, Damian seemed totally closed off to you, which you understood. You're his brother's partner; what twelve year old gives a shit about that?
But you feel you've made good progress today. You feel like the Wayne's really like you, and don't just tolerate you because they have to.
"Please don't listen to him," Dick says while you wait for the elevator. "Damian thinks every social interaction is a test. We're working on it."
"It's okay," you say, because it is. "I get it. I'm glad I passed."
Dick shakes his head. "It was never a matter of passing. We thought you were great the first time Jason introduced you to us."
"Dick..." You melt at that, both out of relief and fondness. Dick is probably your favorite one of Jason's brothers, after Damian, of course. He's the most sympathetic to your attempts at connecting with the family and the one who's the gentlest with you.
He smiles, all sunshine, and you're abruptly glad that Jason has a family like this one.
"Are you gonna ask him this week?" Dick asks.
You bite your lip, unable to hide your smile. "I think so. What do you think?"
"I think it's perfect. He doesn't like all that fuss. And you'll be letting him know that you want to marry just him. Not when you're dressed up, on a date, but all of him."
"I do," you say, voice thick. "I do want that, D."
He nods, eyes soft. "I know. I'll see you next week," he says. "Don't worry about the dinner, okay? You're practically family now. And I expect to see a ring!"
He pulls you into a quick hug, and you sag in relief. You did well. It's been confirmed.
"Thank you," you say softly.
The elevator doors open. Dick lets you go, and you wait for the doors to close before you go to your apartment.
"You're out late."
You jump, almost dropping your bag of zoo souvenirs. Jason is leaning against the couch, arms folded. You laugh a little, holding your chest.
"Jay, you scared me! Jeez."
You go to him and lean in for a kiss. He dodges you, slipping away to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
You blink owlishly, trying to process what just happened.
"Um," you begin. "Is everything okay?"
"So where was it this time?" Jason asks. "Escape room? Art museum? Some other place you can't be seen with me?"
"Jason, what are you talking about?"
He finally looks at you. His gaze is intense, lethal. It makes you take a step back. He turns away.
"Where'd you go today? And be honest."
"We went to the zoo, and then we went to dinner. Me, Dick, and Damian. Jay, what's this about?"
Jason looks up. His gaze is no longer lethal; now it's just melancholy.
"Are you with me to get to them?" he asks.
"Get to who?"
"The Bats. Gotham's finest. Bruce Wayne's rag-tag group of orphans he can't stop collecting."
"Are you asking me if I'm in this relationship to get to your family?" you ask, unable to keep the frustration out of your voice.
"Yes. That's exactly what I'm asking. I'm asking if you like my media-trained, not-undead family who you can actually spend time with publicly. I'm asking if you like my Boy Wonder brother, who'd probably show you a better time than I can."
"Jason Wayne, I have never cheated on you or thought about cheating on you. With Dick or anyone else," you say firmly. "Now, what's this about?"
Jason's face falls.
"You're right," he says quietly. "That was stupid 'f me to say. I know you're faithful, baby."
He won't look you in the eye now. It is reminiscent of the beginning of your relationship when Jason would retreat whenever you argued. It wasn't until you confronted him about it that you learned that he thought every argument was your last and that you'd break up with him the next day.
"Jay," you say, getting closer. "Something's obviously bothering you. Talk to me, please."
He stays quiet. You get close enough to touch him, but you don't, in case he's not ready to be touched yet.
"Why me?" he rasps.
"Why you what?"
He takes a sharp breath. "Why not them? Why me? Why d'you bother with me?"
"Jay, baby, where's this coming from? I don't bother with you, I love you. I am in a relationship with you because I want to be."
"You've hung out with them this whole month," he mumbles. "And I know we can't go out anytime 'cause I'm technically dead, but I just—I mean, we could work something out if you really wanna go. I wanna do that stuff with you too."
"Jason, no, no," you say, and reach for him. This time, he lets you pull him into a hug, and you kiss his chin. He makes a soft sound in his throat.
"Oh, honey, is that what this is about? You think I'm replacing you?"
"'S happened before," he mumbles, and you screw your face up so you won't cry at that.
"Jason, I—" You take a deep breath and release him until you're holding his hands. "Fuck me, I guess there's no time like the present."
Jason squints. "What're you—"
"I met them to ask for their blessing," you say before you can lose your nerve. "I hung out with them because I wanted to make sure they'd like me, and I should've told you, but I wanted to keep it a surprise."
"Keep what a surprise? Sweetheart, what's—"
You let go of Jason's hands and get down on one knee. Jason's eyes go wide.
"Holy fuck," he says, and you laugh wetly.
"Jaybird, we've been together for a long time, and I'm positive that you're the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. I hung out with your family this month so I could be sure that we'd get along. Because I know they're important to you, even if you have your rough patches."
"Holy fuck," Jason says again, eyes glassy.
You smile and pull out the black velvet box with the ring that Alfred had helped you choose.
"Jason Wayne, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you—mmph!"
Jason is on you in an instant, and the box tumbles from your hand. He presses you to the floor and kisses you hard, his hands squeezing your waist.
"Jay, this part is supposed to come after we get married, not before," you say when he finally lets you break for air.
"What can I say? Commitment gets me hot."
You wrap your arms around his neck, comfortable under him. Jason kisses you again, softer and sweeter.
"So is that a yes?" you ask.
"It's an emphatic yes, oui, si, ja, da..."
"Okay, I get it, Bruce put you in private school," you say, rolling your eyes. Jason pinches your hip and you squeal.
He rolls you over so you're atop him.
"I'm sorry I said those things," he says. "I didn't—I know you wouldn't do that. I was just upset, but I shouldn't have accused you out of anger."
"I forgive you," you say and kiss his temple. "It's not the last fight we'll have, and if I was afraid of a few arguments, I wouldn't ask you to marry me, Jay. Thank you for communicating."
"Fuck, I love ya," he whispers, and hugs you tighter.
"Ditto!" you say, and he snorts.
"So my entire family knows I'm getting married then, huh?"
"What? No. I only told Dick."
Jason laughs. "Yeah. Everybody definitely knows."
"Jay, I didn't mean..."
"Aw, baby, no, it's okay. I never thought I'd actually make it this far, so it's really okay." He kisses your nose when you start to frown. "And I'm the first Wayne to get married for real. Suck it, B!"
"Please don't put that in your vows, Jay."
Jason grins so hard, his cheeks puff out.
"No promises, fiance."

I agree with Jason being the Sunshine Robin (tm) when he was 12. I'd argue that if Bruce found him much younger, maybe 7 or 8, he would've been the shyest as well!
This post is brought to you by me needing to see baby jason todd hiding in Bruce's arms when he meets the league, overwhelmed by them calling him cute and generally fawning over his adorableness
Bruce reassures him, of course, " They're friends, Robin."
"Aw. Spooky."
"Except Hal."

could you pretty please, if you have any request spaces left open, do a little something where y/n is like a ball of sunshine type character and nothing ever seems to break her or get her hopes down, but one day jason is suuupper pissed off about smth and he verbally takes it out on her and it makes her cry, and he feels bad immediately but won't admit to that just yet because he's in his asshole era (maybe this would fit titans jay better), and he just doubles down like why the hell are you crying that he's seen her handle waayy worse than this and still manage to stay upbeat, and she's like forcing herself to stop crying and pull herself together and she tells him it's cuz it's him and hes like oh of course you'd cry over me cuz I'm just so awful and she's like actually no cuz it hurts to be on the receiving end of his anger because she's a little bit in love with him. Angst is my absolute fav so that's why I'm asking for sadness 💔😢
Jason Todd x Sunshine!Fem!Reader
Note: Yayyy angst! 🥳🥳
"Oh, oh, of course it's me! Blame Jason Todd once again for being such a prick and an asshole!"
Tumblr media
"Hey, Jay! Wanna train together?" You came skipping into the training room, seeing Jason already throwing a couple of strikes to a punching bag.
"Not today." He replies, refusing to look at you and continuing to hit the bag, quickly wiping the sweat dripping from his forhead.
"C'mon, just one quick sparring match, hm? Please! You said you'd show me how to do that cool headlock thingy," you kept your upbeat attitude, missing the memo that Jason was not having it today.
"Jesus, I said no! Would you fuck off, I'm busy," he raises his voice at you.
He was in a mood because just a few hours ago, Dick threatened to bench him if Jason couldn't keep in line. If Jason won't stop disobeying orders, Dick wouldn't think twice about taking the mask and cape away from him.
But when Jason raised his voice, your smile quivered. "Oh.. I'm sorry. Maybe later, yeah? I know sparring makes you feel better!-"
You were cut off by Jason, fully yelling at you this time. "For fuck's sake, can you not take a hint or are you really that fucking dense? I don't wanna fucking spar right now, and I don't wanna spar with you! So how 'bout you get this through your thick skull, and fuck off!" He didn't mean to say any of that. He mentally punched himself for ever opening his mouth.
He knows you just wanted to make him feel better, but his stupid brain made him take his anger out on you. He always admired your happy and positive attitude. He doesn't know how you keep it up. Every time you walked into the room, it was like an angel came in with a glowing aura accompanying you. And his heart always swelled at the fantasy that you shared that aura with him every time you spoke a word to him, every compliment you gave him, every smile you sent his way. He wanted to apologise, but his thick pride got in the way.
"I..." You could barely get a word out. Jason has never talked to you like that before. Hell, he never even raised his voice to you before. You hiccuped, your throat getting clogged up, and you felt like you needed to hurl whike your chest ached.
It was too late before you noticed the salty tears travelling down your reddened cheeks. And it was too late before Jason noticed his mouth talking faster than his brain could think.
"Fuck, now you're crying?" He scoffed, rolling his eyes. "There's literally nothing to cry over, and I shouldn't even need to tell you twice to leave me alone!" What the fuck, why won't he stop talking?
You tried to wipe away your tears and tug your lips upward to show at least half a smile, but a choked out whine escaped instead.
"Honestly, stop crying, would you?" He really couldn't stop himself. Words just kept vomiting out his mouth like that time he drank one brew too many last time he kicked some villain's ass. He liked that memory. Granted, he was throwing up buckets, but you were behind him as he was hunched over the toilet seat. You thought he'd forgotten the next morning, but he clearly remembered how you were right behind him, rubbing his back in comfort, telling him you'd stay with him as long as he wanted. He also remembered the way you supported him up while walking him back to his room. He remembered you tucking him into bed, placing a trash can beside it, making sure he's sleeping on his side. He remembered you quietly reminding him about the water bottle you left on his nightstand. He also remembered that bold and cheeky peck you left in the soft curls of his head while telling him to get some good rest.
"You literally got stabbed and had a near death experience, and you were smiling the whole time you were recovering! Now you're crying? And for what?!"
"You- You're being mean," you sniffled.
He scoffs again and lets out a sarcastic laugh. "Oh, oh, of course it's me! Blame Jason Todd once again for being such a prick and an asshole!"
You tried holding in your sobs, but that led to you almost choking on your held breath, your chest feeling full, and your head feeling sore. Jason wanted nothing more for you to slap him, hit him, shut him up. He wanted to tell you he didn't mean it, that he was sorry. He wanted to run up to you, hug you in a tight embrace, and tell you not to cry because he actually is a prick and an asshole.
"Literally, why the hell are you still even here! Get lost, I'm not gonna say it again!" He yells for the final time before going back to the punching bag. And after the few seconds he got back to it, he glanced at where you were standing and saw you were already gone.
He curled over, leaning his hands over his knees, panting furiously. He wasn't sure if the tiredness came from the punches or the yelling. Maybe both. But picturing the broken look on your face pissed him off even more. Not because you were sad. Because he was the one who made you sad. This made him hate himself even more.
He tore the boxing gloves off his hands, projecting them off somewhere in the room, and yelled out in anger. He didn't even notice he started crying himself.
It's been another couple of hours. Your cheeks were long dried, but that didn't stop your shallow breaths from shaking continuously.
You then heard light knocks coming from your door. You took 3 deep and calm breaths before going towards it to see who it was.
Jason was pretty much the last person you'd expect to be standing on the other side. Furthermore, him holding a small bouquet of flowers in his trembling hands was the last thing you'd expect him to present to you. But you were scared to make the wrong move that might tick him off again.
"Jason, can we talk later I-" You said slowly in a whisper, looking at the ground while shaking your head, trying to close the door on him.
"Y/n, please," he holds the door, leaving a little gap open between you and him. "I'm sorry. I- I shouldn't have yelled, and I-"
"No, Jason, stop. It's my fault. I shouldn't have pushed you, and I'm sor-"
"Don't you dare apologise." This time, when Jason raised his voice, it was different. It was softer. "It's not your fault. I was just angry, and I took it out on you. The only thing I was right about was that I am a prick and an asshole. And- and I took your gorgeous smile away from you, and-" He started to word vomit again, but this time, it made your lips tug upwards. "And I don't want you to fuck off or get lost. I never want you to get lost because your so amazing and."
He continued his rambles and didn't notice that you opened the door wider. He tore his gaze away from the ground, and his heart raced when he felt your hands cupped around his own that were holding the flowers.
"The flowers are really pretty, Jay," you smiled at him.
Your happiness was so magnetising that he mirrored your smile. But it faltered. "I'm sorry," he repeats. "You shouldn't have cried over me because of how much of an asshole I am.."
You sighed, taking the flowers from his grasp and holding them close to your chest, your finger gently gliding over some of the petals. "Let's be real, Jason, you're always an asshole. But... I was crying because you've never been so angry at me before. I was crying because I hated knowing that I was the one who pissed who off."
"Shit, oh, sweet thing, no," he quietly replied, holding both your shoulders, making you look at him. Your face warmed at the nickname. "You- You didn't piss me off. I was already pissed off before that. It was just bad timing, and me being a hot head- you can never make me angry."
Neither of you realised how the two of you were in such close proximity.
"Well... you can make it up to me?" You say, your spark of sunshine and optimism coming back.
"Yeah- yes, how, I'l do anything," Jason quickly replied.
You step back, walking to your desk, pulling an empty vase to put the flowers in. "There's a cute cafe that opened downtown," you started, admiring the arrangement of flowers. "Go with me?" You shyly ask, back still facing him.
Jason smiled wider, thinking that alone time with you would count as a date. "Of course, sugar. Anything else?"
You giggled and turned around and crossed your arms. "Yes. You're paying, obviously," you walked up to him.
"Obviously," he copied.
"And I want this to be a date." This was a new, bold side to you. You've never been this straightforward before.
Jason glances up to the ceiling for a few seconds, pretending to think. "Yeah," he places his his hands on your waist, your own resting on his chest. "I think that could be arranged."

Not Jealous (solangelo)
Nico had a problem and that problem took the form of a YouTuber that had enraptured his boyfriend.
Doctor Mike. The bane of his existence. He watches from Wills bed as the boy himself sits with his legs propped up on his desk chair; headphones on and a stupid awe filled look plastered on his face as he watches the doctor on his screen. From what Nico sees, the topic of which he was discussing in his video seemed gross. He saw cysts and clips of surgeries that made him squeamish; he could barely handle the doctor pimple popper videos Will seemed to love. Right now he would take a million clips of blackhead being squeezed out and weird lump removals if it meant that annoyingly attractive doctor was ridden from the monster proof computer the Hephaestus kids kindly made for each cabin. If only he could go back in time and stop them from making their invention.
“Will.”
“hm,” he replied, his head moving towards his direction but his eyes never leaving the screen.
“Will!” he throws the green Super Wars, or whatever it’s called, teddy laying on the bed at the boy.
“Hey!” Will takes off his headphones and pauses the video, “what did yoda ever do to you?”
“that’s your fifth video.” He glares.
“Awh baby I’m sorry,” he puts his headphones on his desk and walks over, “I didn’t even realise I was ignoring you.”
“yeah you were too busy with Mike,” Nico pouts while crossing his arms. A grin slowly spreads across the blondes face.
“sunshine are you jealous of my YouTuber?” He teases as he brushes his hand through the brunettes bangs
“No,” Nico bumbles out, pushing away his hand. Will can’t help but jump onto the bed towards his pink eared boyfriend. Nico swats away from his playful tugs and fighting until he’s final pinned against the bed.
“admit it Neeks you’re jealous.” He grins.
“I don’t get jealous William.” He says as he turns his face to the side, his pout still prevalent.
“yeah what about that time when I said Paolo-“
“nooo-“ he moans out.
“Or when-“
“Shut up,” Will let’s go of him and sits, allowing his boyfriend to bury his head into his shoulder. He lets out a huff of laughter at his boyfriends adorable antics before putting his arms around him and manoeuvring them both until he is cuddling Nico from behind.
“Y’know,” Will whispers into the brunettes ear after a moment of silence, “you’re cute when you’re jealous.” He smirks as he watches the red creep onto his boyfriends face.
”you’re mean.” Nico grumbles softly as he wiggles in his grip, “acting like you don’t get jealous either.”
“No you see when I say I’m don’t get jealous I actually mean it unlike someone.” He says pointedly.
“oh really?” Nico mischievously looks up at him.
“yep.”
“Y’know Travis is looking good lately, really handsome,” Will holds in his laughter as he realised what his boyfriend was trying to do.
“and Jason’s definitely been working out lately, weeyoo” he exaggeratedly exclaims as Will just hm’s and aggressively shakes his head in agreement.
“but of course none of them have anything on the attractive levels of Percy.”
“oh of course,” he joins in, “Percy is super hot. His abs are sure looking delicious lately and his biceps? Out of this world. He’s literally a Greek God; no pun intended. Him and Annabeth are like the hottest couple to ever exist. If I had both of them in a room at the same time-“
“yeah why don’t you go find them and make love with them!!” Nico glares and pushes him away
“see!” Will exclaims “you’re even getting jealous while trying to make me jealous, give up Neeks.”
“that’s unfair! You kept talking about Percy and even included Annabeth when she wasn’t even brought up!”
“Well come on it’s Percy and Annabeth-hey!” Nico pushes him down on the bed. “I’m just trying to get a rise out of you baby,” Will nervously says.
“Y’know what I think,” Nico smirks down at his boyfriend who hesitantly nods, “I think Percy and Annabeth have nothing on Apollo.”
“what.” Will blankly looks up at him.
“yeah you heard me; I think lord Apollo, your dad, is the hottest god- no being on this planet.”
“shut up”
“Gods, what i’d do if he was here right now-“
“shut up!”
“Did you know he was my gay awakening?”
“shut up shut up shut up!!” Will switches their positions, leaving Nico once again pinned on his back. “Take that back!”
“ha! Look at you, you’re jealous!”
“that’s not jealousy! That’s my dad-gross!!” His face twists in disgust as Nicos laughs die now.
“I’m sorry la mia luce,” he says gently as he brings his hands up to softly lay on his shoulders. His fingers curl though the ends of the blondes locks as he looks up at him with doe eyes Will knows he could never be mad at. “You know I think you’re the most beautiful thing to bring light to this world.”
Will lowers himself until he’s resting against Nicos chest, the rest of himself spread out on the bed and the smaller boy underneath him until their limbs starts to tangle.
“no more talking about other people- especially my dad.”
“yes of course bellissimo,” he agrees before innocently muttering under his breath,” and no more Doctor Mike.”
Will laughs before kissing the side of his lips, “for you sunshine, no more Doctor Mike.”
Nico stops him before he rests himself back on his chest. His hands cupping his face, his thumb soothingly tracing circles on his cheeks before softly pressing his lips against the others. Will loved how Nico acted like every kiss was their first, as if he was still shy to touch him. He kissed him back, ensuring him that he doesn’t have to be shy with him and he doesn’t have to be jealous of anyone else either. Will was here and he wasn’t planning on leaving for another anytime soon.
They laid together, holding eachother and breathing in the comfort.
“Was my dad really your gay awakening?”
*note!* if you realised Nico has the romantic vocab of an 80 year old- welcome to my headcanon that Nico is an old school lover boy and Will “raised in a summer camp and probably had the sex talk from a horse” solace has a dirty mind and mouth.

Okay *cracks knuckles* it's time for my Jason Todd post
Jason Todd, on a fundamental level, is a morally gray character. He is not a good or bad person. He's not a redeemed villian, he's not a corrupted hero, he is meant to serve *as the line.*
This starts with his parents. As much as Bruce is a product of his parents, a product of the "last good family in Gotham," and carries on their legacy, Jason does exactly that. Take a look at Willis Todd. He (I'm pretty sure) cheated on Sheila, remarried to Catherine, and decided that his son didn't need to know who his real mother was. He joined Two-Faces gang, not because he was an awful criminal or because he wanted to hurt and steal, but because he had a wife and son at home that didn't have food on the fucking table. What would you do? If the people you loved were starving, if they were relying on you and your honest efforts weren't good enough, would you do any differently?
Willis wasn't some abusive criminal that did it for the fun of it. He was doing it to survive, to keep his family fed and safe, and it got him killed. But in The Batman's eyes, would it matter? He's still stealing. He's still a *criminal.*
For Catherine, it's much the same. After Willis's death, she was forced to take care of a child that was not hers. She realistically didn't have much of a legal obligation to him, especially in a city like Gotham. She still did. Even when she was told by doctors that she was slowly dying, even as her pain got worse and worse, she still tried to raise Jason right.
She was an addict because she was in pain. What would you do? Catherine could either die in pain, slowly, or she could take the edge off. She could do *something* to make her body's rebellion quiet, even just for a little bit.
But she was still using. She was still an *addict*.
Even with Sheila. Yes, she sold Jason out to the Joker. Yes, she was selling off medical supplies. But she was in Ethiopia on a *humanitarian* mission. She was still trying to help people. She'd done some things wrong, she'd made some mistakes, but she was trying to turn over a new leaf.
She was genuinely happy to see Jason. She was so prepared to meet her son, to learn who he was and have him in her life. But Jason was the wrong person, in the wrong place at the wrong time, and so she got him killed. What would you do? If you were under threat by the Joker, scared and desperate, terrified of being turned into just another body on the news, what would you do? If you had one of the Joker's worst enemies right at your fingertips, what would you do?
I'm not saying that any of them were right for doing what they did. But, every single one of these characters are *sympathetic* in the original comics. They are flawed, human, fallible, but at their core they *try to do the right thing.* But they're the wrong people, at the wrong time, with the wrong influences. They're all criminals. They're all *people.*
Jason is no different. He is his parents' child. Bruce meets Jason stealing his tires, so he can fence them off later and make a bit of cash. He's squatting in a building, isn't going to school, and god knows what other petty crimes he's committing to *survive*. How long until he joined up with Two-Face? How long until he made the same mistakes his father did?
Jason Todd was a criminal. He was a kid, yes, and he was doing it to survive, but he was *a criminal.* People like to say that Jaybin was a ray of sunshine, that he was kind and childish and perfect, and he was! He was all that, and a criminal.
When Bruce takes Jason in, he takes to being Robin like a fish to water. There's something to be said about *Batman* adopting *Robin* instead of *Bruce* adopting *Jason,* but that's a post for another time. Point is, being Robin is something that Jason loves. He comes into it bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, but very quickly, he became disillusioned with Batman's methods. He wanted to do *more* to help people. He got in trouble for being too rough, for pushing the line too far. Jason's line of morality was *further* from Bruce's, just like Bruce's line of morality is further from most's. Especially growing up in Crime Alley, he didn't have the luxury to afford ethics. Of *course* that would stick with him.
One of the major catharsis moments for Jason is in the two storylines before a death in the family. I don't remember the order, but one is a serial killer who kept killing women and throwing them into dumpsters. Then, after almost a dozen murders, they find the guy dead. While Batman was looking into it, a woman had also noticed the disappearances and decided to *do* something about it. She dressed herself up, shadowed the killer, and baited him into coming after her. When he inevitably did, she killed him.
When speaking to Batman and the cops, she's asked if it bothers her that she killed a man. She responds that she didn't kill a man- she put down a mad dog.
When relaying this to Jason, Bruce emphasizes that no one is above the law, that it was wrong to break it and it was wrong to kill him. Jason, though, seems compelled by this. He sees someone, doing real good in the world in a brutal matter, and starts to believe that maybe Bruce's way of thinking doesn't line up with the real world. So is it such a surprise that, two issues later, Jason decides to try his own version? The story is standard. A rapist torments a woman, the law can't touch him, and he calls to threaten her again. She kills herself before Batman and Robin can stop her.
Robin, who had been begging Bruce to do something outside of the law, just this once. To take matters into his own hands and to get the rapist in prison for the awful things that he'd done. Bruce hadn't acted. He refused to do more than the law allowed him, and a woman died because of it. Jason pays the guy a visit, and it's heavily implied that he pushed him to fall to his death.
Why am I explaining this? Well, these comics are integral to Jason's robin run- he sees where Batman fails, sees what lines he doesn't cross, and sees what good can come from crossing those lines.
He is meant to be a foil for Bruce as Red Hood. He is the extreme of a vigilante, he's violent and a killer and a criminal, but who is judging where the line is?
I'd say there's three things that Jason Todd accomplishes as a character.
1) He is a warning that not everyone is going to fit into Bruce's line of thinking. There will be criminals who are good people, who do bad things because they have to. There will be people who kill and steal and hurt, who are enemies of The Batman, and still matter to someone. Jason is the representative of that. He represents his parents, every kid that grew up wrong in Crime Alley, of everyone that Batman could have possibly misjudged.
2) Bruce can't fix everyone and everything. He can't just go around busting crimes and offering jobs when, on a fundamental level, Gotham is built to make people fail. Bruce can't just have band-aid solutions to help individual people.
Additionally, he can't make Jason see things from his perspective. Sometimes there *are* situations where someone being dead is for the better. Sometimes, someone may have to cross the line that Bruce won't to keep people safe.3) Bruce can't save everyone. This is the most obvious, with Jason's death, but even with him as Red Hood he can't save him from the hereditary curse of survival. Of doing the wrong things for the right reasons, of coming from a life that encouraged selfishness because it *had to.*
(This is why it's so frustrating to see people saying that Jason is generous or selfless. He is an incredibly selfish character, that is built into his bones.)Jason's characterization in fandom isn't just wrong- it is antithetical to who he actually is. Jason is selfish, is violent and brutal and hurts people. He can be all of those things, he can be a criminal and he can be a festering wound in Bruce's gut, and still be a person. He is caring, determined and protective. These can coexist without having to flanderize him down to a caricature of one of the other.

Fic rec friday!
Got this idea from @mediumgayitalian (thank you!)
Below are 5 fics I've enjoyed this past week/recently. (They're all solangelo)
FAR GALAXIES by @rosyredlipstick
https://archiveofourown.org/works/49263694
Summary:
She didn’t answer. Instead, she pulled out her PADD from her coat, slow enough that Nico only slightly twitched. Jason’s transmission was loaded up on the screen—at the bottom, their signature tag was spelled out. “Guardians of the Galaxy. That supposed to be a joke?” “More like an aspiration,” Jason said. - Space, the final frontier. Or whatever.
--
Rosy is still working on it, but when I tell you this is absolutely worth it. Nico is 1 part of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and him, along with Piper, Jason and Leo get into many shenanigans in their journey across the stars. I'm just obsessed with Will and Nico's dynamic in this. Rosy is just such an incredible writer, her fics will probably pop up in more of these if I'm being honest.
Solace by @solisaureus
https://archiveofourown.org/works/38228998
Summary:
solace (n.) comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness.
solis (n.) the Latin word for "sun."
--
I am an absolute sucker for fics that are "rewrites" of canon but that are Will Solace-centric, and when I tell you this absolutely delivers. I loved reading about Will's journey as a healer, how he deals with love and loss, it's just a beautiful fic!
i'm put in awe (of something so flawed and free) by CordeliaRose
https://archiveofourown.org/works/53629369
Summary:
Right. Well. Nico squares his shoulders, reminds himself that nobody’s perfect and this guy has to be ugly, and knocks on the door.
He is met with a Greek God, and forgets how to function.
|||
AKA: the archaeologist!Nico & trauma surgeon!Will AU.
--
If you're not familiar with Cordelia, they wrote the solangelo bible (AKA August) and are currently writing August(Will's version). However, they decided to bless us with this absolutely adorable Trauma Surgeon! Will and Archaeologist! Nico AU, and it's such a pleasant read. Will and Nico's dynamic is flirty and adorable, and the rest of the seven are such sweet friends to Nico. Plus Nico is autistic coded in this and I'm a sucker for that.
my lover's the sunlight by demigodbeauties
https://archiveofourown.org/works/30187689
Summary:
It’s his Olympic debut. In a few short hours, he’ll be the only man skating on the ice sitting before him. He’ll be skating in the Men’s Singles Short Programme and representing all of the United States. He’s in a city he hasn’t seen in years, skating a brand new set of routines, and he wants so desperately to win.
--
Figure Skater Nico di Angelo has a run in with Ice Hockey Player Will Solace. It doesn't go too smoothly, but then again - when does it ever?
--
Olympic Skater!Nico and Olympic Hockey player! Will. This story is warm and heartfelt, and the "enemies" part of the "enemies to lovers" tag is more misunderstanding than anything else. I felt myself wanting to cheer for Nico as he performed right there along Will, and #Solangelo even trends on twitter in this LOL.
Got a Pretty Face (Pretty Boyfriend, Too) by @buoyantsaturn
https://archiveofourown.org/works/33772453
Summary:
Was Will flirting with him? Or was this just his attempt at being a friendly neighbor? Either way, just to be safe, Nico should probably make it known that he’s off the market. Right? A casual mention of a boyfriend would work - he’d never had to let anybody down easy like that before, but he’d seen it in, like, movies. Thanks, I’ll see if my boyfriend is interested. Perfect. Now, he just had to say it.
-
Will moves from Austin to a small town in Texas, where he immediately takes up three jobs, and does not have the time to be flirting this much.
--
CJ never ceases to amaze and impress with their work, and this fic is no exception. I'm not normally one to read Leo/Nico, but I found I really enjoyed their dynamic in this fic, and the use of "sunshine" and "freckles" as nicknames for Will absolutely made me smile. Basically Nico and Leo live in Texas and Will works two jobs, and meets both Nico and Leo separately, and the two both start crushing on him. Shenanigans ensue. I adore this fic.
--
Okay that's all! I'll probably keep doing this until I run out of fics to recommend. Have a good friday lovelies!

Sunshine follows with Sunfall pt.5
Tumblr media
Warnings: Grudges(well deserved)
Series Masterlist
The next few chapters will be posted at random, no longer every Friday. I'm going to take some time to focus on some other wip's of mine.
~☆~
When Jason left your apartment that night, he had left you with his phone number, an address, a key, and a promise to see you again. You shouldn't trust his promises, you know this.
It took three whole days of fighting with yourself to finally call him, ask him if he wanted Judith back in his life. The two of you talked about her for hours that night, you telling him about all of the things he's missed, not just in the past year but also things he missed throughout her whole life.
She likes pink glittery Pancakes, her favorite color is yellow, she likes going to the park because she gets to silently judge people, she loves school(especially her class turtle), she likes being around her family, but only for short period (they can get on her nerves quickly), she's obsessed with Blues clues, but only the older version with Steve (which is why she named the cat Damian had gifted her "Periwinkle"), onetime she had the flu and genuinely thought she was dying, she likes watching her uncles play video games, but she doesn't like playing them.
A lot of things have come up in her transition from four to five.
You didn't end the call without telling him what's on your mind. "I don't want her to love you, just for you to leave again when you can't handle the pressure. I don't want you to leave her heartbroken."
×
"Hey, Jude!"
"Hi, Mommy!"
Judith ran up to you, hugging your legs. An action she does every single time you pick her up from school. "How was your day, baby?"
"Awsome!" She yelled, looking down at a flower in her hand. "I got a present!"
"Aw, that's cute." You wouldn't tell her that her 'flower' was, in fact, a weed. The two of you started walking to your car, hand in hand.
"Momma, help, please.." She smiled as she tried to climb into the back seat. You let out a small chuckle at her behavior. You watched as she buckled her seat belt, waiting to see if she was fully okay before getting into the front seat.
"Now when we get home you're gonna have to take a bath, I have a suprise." You told her, watching as her expression brightened up at your words.
"What kind of suprise?" She pried.
"If I tell you, then it won't be a surprise anymore."
×
Judith excitedly ran through the apartment as soon as you got the door open. Her logic was that the sooner she got ready, the sooner her suprise would happen.
"Sweetheart, the suprise isn't until tonight!" You yelled from the living room.
"I have to plan!" She yelled back. You let out another chuckle and made your way to the bathroom, turning the knobs on the tub so that it's the perfect temperature. "Let's just get you into some pajamas for now!"
×
Let's just say the night came sooner than expected. Judith sat on your bed watching as you did your makeup. "Can I have some Momma?"
You turned to look at her, wide smile on your lips. "Judy, baby, you don't need any."
Despite your words, you still turned to dab a little bit of lip gloss on her lips. It's one that she left on your vanity, blue tube with Cinderella plastered on it. "Thank you, Mommy."
"You're welcome, baby." You turned to look at yourself one last time, letting out a sigh as you deemed yourself okay. "You ready?"
"Yes!"
×
Judith watched wide-eyed out of the window. Jason's apartment wasn't on the side of Gotham that the two of you grew up in and lived together in. It was in between that and near where the Manor and your very own apartment layed.
You parked your car in the garage, letting out another sigh as you finally realized what you were doing.
"Are you okay, Mommy?" Judith asked, concerned look on her small face.
You turned to offer her a smile. "I'm okay."
The two of you hopped out of the car, well, Judith got out with the help of you. And then made your way into the lobby. If you remember correctly, Jason had said that the elevator just started running again. Thankfully, you did remember correctly.
You pushed the button that you needed and let yet another sigh fall from your lips. Judith's hand carefully grasped yours, brung you out of the daze you didn't even know you were in. "It's okay, I don't need a suprise."
Her head turned to look up at you, and you mustered up the best smile you could. "Oh, but you're going to love this."
The elevator finally reached the floor you needed to be on. You and Judith walked down the hallway hand in hand. Hesitantly, you reached in your pocket for the key that Jason had left you, his apartment key. You looked down at Judith's face one more time before you lined up the key and twisted the lock open. As the door opened, Judith peered inside, trying to see what was so special about some apartment. A body coming around the corner made her look up, a lamp casted light on a familiar face.
"Daddy!" Judith screamed. Her little legs ran as fast at they could, just to reach Jason.
"Hey, Sunshine." He smiled, reaching down to engulf her in a hug. One of his hands held her to him, and the other cradled the back of her head, keeping her in place as he pressed kisses to it. The corner of his eyes prickled, preparing for the tears that were rising. Jason stood up with Judith still in his arms, causing a small squeal to escape her, before he took an arm off of her and reached it out for you, welcoming you into their embrace.
"God, I've missed you." He whispered to her, still pressing his face into her hair. "I've missed you so much."
His arms hugged the both of you tighter, trying to lock you into place forever.
Eventually, you pulled your head away to look at both Judith and Jason. Watching as they too slowly pulled away so that they could look at each other.
"Are you hungry?" He asked, voice breaking from the emotions he's experiencing.
"Yeah!" Judith's eyes lit up. Jason let a wet laugh fall from his lips before he carried her into his kitchen. Holding her on a hip as he stirred something in a pot. You followed after them and smiled to yourself, unknowingly to the both of them you also happened to have your phone on you.
A picture of this would be nice.
"Are you hungry, baby?" Jason asked, staring down at the girl in his arms.
"Mhm.." She mumbled, laying her head against his collarbones. Jason gave you a quick glance before walking over to a room that was connected to the kitchen.
His apartment was far different than the one you shared on the "bad" side of Gotham. That apartment was dingy with one bedroom and no space for a kitchen table, leading to many nights of eating on the couch. Most of your furniture there had been hand me downs from Jason's many siblings, but it was your home. When you and Jason split ways, he had moved out and stayed with Roy for a bit before he eventually got himself another apartment where he got even more hand me down furniture.
This apartment was cleaner and more barren, almost like he never spent any time here. But he had the necessities to make it a starter home, a couch, TV, kitchen supplies, and a dining room set.
Despite your dislike for the man you used to love, you are happy for him. He seems healthier, physically and mentally.
"Where do you wanna sit?" He asked, pointing to the four chairs in the dining room.
"Next to you!" Judith yelled, pointing up at her father.
Jason noted that you had followed them into the room and rested upon the door frame. He looked back at you, silently asking if she could. You nodded your head, giving Jason the chance to set her down next to where he was about to sit. He rounded the table and pulled out a chair for you, motioning for you to sit down.
After he scooted you I to place, he retreated back to the kitchen, coming back a second later with a plate for you and Judith. As you looked down, you noticed what it was. The one thing you constantly craved when you were pregnant, and what just so happened to be Judith's favorite food.
"Chicken Alfred!" Judith yelled. No matter how many times you told her the correct pronunciation, she still called it 'Alfred'. It was a miracle that she liked it, no matter how many other pastas you get her to try. This is the one she loves.
Jason smiled down at Judith then walked back to the kitchen, returning with his own plate.
×
After dinner, you helped Jason clean up while Judith sat in the living room watching TV. The two or you worked side by side to do the dishes.
You noticed the glances that Jason would throw at you. After the fifth one, you sighed and put down the plate you were holding.
"What?" You asked, annoyed by his actions.
Jason, too, set down what he was holding. "I just didn't expect you to let her see me." He whispered.
You pursed your lips and thought of what to say. "Just because I have a problem with you doesn't mean she should too." You picked up the plate again and continued to wipe it with a sponge. "This doesn't mean I want you to be in our lives, I just want her to be happy."

fanon vs canon: we're talking (an essay)
Hiya! I've been seeing a lot on my dash these huge arguments about fanon vs canon in the DC/Batfamily univers, and it's getting pretty heated. People seem to be getting upset about what "counts" as canon, what parts of the story are "real" or "made up by fans" and what is "allowed" to be "real".
Personally, I find the entire argument to be reductive and extremely so.
Here's why:
Batman as a property has existed for 85 years. The idea and mythology and story of Batman has been handled by countless writers and artists, been seen in every kind of artistic medium, and has been changed over and over again over the past eight and a half decades. This story has never been told the same way twice and that's half the point of these stories and mythologies we've built up. We've seen Bruce Wayne be morally questionable if not outright reprehensible, a loving father, a staunch loner, a murderer-by-proxy (Batman v Superman, you know not what you do). It's okay to pull ideas from across time because, well, there's a lot of it and things are changing all the time!
There's a lot more there than we can easily comprehend (this is kind of more of a "1a, but fine, whatever, hey) This is something I see a lot where someone is accused of being "too fanon" only for it to turn out to be something pulled directly from the over eight decades of work. Maybe it's not productive to accuse people of this kind of thing when maybe, just maybe, there are sources for this.
Flattening these characters into "allowable" ideas of the character limits our creativity I mean, think about it for a moment: why should we limit what stories we tell and things we create by what other people tell us is acceptable? After all, if we said there were only certain kinds of stories and ideas allowed, we would never have Dark Knights of Steel, Red Son, or even Batman Beyond. Without taking risks, making changes, and telling our own stories, we miss out on so many amazing ideas that would never be permitted to bloom. (ok but the LEGO Batman movies make Damian this cheerful people-pleasing little ball of sunshine and that's not it tbh, there are limits)
People are more nuanced than you think - it's okay to be a little contradictory (this means you!) When I was growing up, I was in an intense and huge music fandom that engaged in something called The Great Poser Hunt of '07 (IYKYK). In what was supposed to be a loving space for the outcasts and forgotten weirdoes of every known high school, we would bully each other relentlessly for "not liking the right thing" or "not being a real fan" and we would constantly test and torment each other over it. It was stressful, it was awful, and it made me and many others like me feel like we had to fit a certain aesthetic, mindset, and media taste otherwise we would be outcast again and this time from a group already ostracised. (And these aesthetics and media tastes that were chosen for us by large corporations but whatever, that's another essay for another day) I listened to Backstreet Boys in secret with my iPod under the blankets, I could let none of my friends know about my secret love of Bon Jovi, and the parts of my heart devoted to 80s New Wave were locked away where no one could see. I felt reduced to what other people wanted from me. I hope you're reading this and thinking "man, that sucked, I don't want to be like that! I want to like all the things I like and proudly!" Which is grand! Please continue to think nice things for yourself! My question to you now is: why would we do this to fictional characters, too? Why can't Dick Grayson be cunning and clever, sometimes kinder than he is wise, friendly and funny and horribly ruthless when he needs to be and all at once? Jason Todd already embodies this kind of thing by being a head-taking badass biker who loves the classics but you know what, he can listen to Slipknot and Britney Spears! That's okay, too! And whatever it is you like, whether it fits a certain aesthetic or scene or mould, that is okay. You deserve to enjoy your things freely and without shame and without shaming others. (So leave Jason's Katy Perry CD collection the hell alone, ya vultures!)
In conclusion:
It's okay for people to make up new ideas for the things you love. It's okay for people to try new things. It's okay for you to disagree with them, too, you don't have to like everything anyone ever comes up with.
But bullying people for their creativity, especially when there's over eighty goddamn years of media to be inspired by, when limiting creativity is stifling and has us miss out on truly special things, and when people in general are more nuanced than you think?

A idea- DamiJon?? I was thinking of this when I was reading another post and I don't remember the post but if this is based off your idea thank you for inspiration!
Damian offers friendship/love using league tactics like offering a bloody knife and such and no one understands so Damian feels bad because of it until he meets Jon and he half heartedly made a offer and surprisingly Jon took it.
Tim and Jason is surprised and dick/others are supportive.
I think Damian wouldn't tell anyone about who his new friend is and just explain them as a monster desite Jon being a ray of sunshine.
------
Damian: Grayson I have made a friend
Dick: what? Really aw I'm so proud of you!
Jason :.....did he just say he got a friend?
Tim: I think so but maybe I'm just delirious
Duke: oh come on you guys he can have friends!
Tim: no way he is a demon there's no way anyone would be his friend.
Damian: Shut up Drake many people want to be my friend I just don't want them to be my friend
Tim: oh really and who did you find 'worthy' enough to be your friend huh?
Damian: he is a monster among men he makes enemies tremble in fear he can crush anyone with just one squeeze and he can throw anyone with no hesitation into the sun with his amazing strength!

Books Read in 2024 (so far)
(Looking at my Goodreads, where I've been keeping track of this, I apparently only started keeping track in March? But I guess that's fair, there's a chance I didn't read anything before that. So let's go with that. ^_^)
The Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
The Raven King, Nora Sakavic
The King's Men, Nora Sakavic
-> These kicked off my reading binge for the year. Also, how have I never read them before? Because my god. Instant favourites. Don't talk to me.
Like Real People Do, E.L. Massey
-> My attempt to recapture the All for the Game vibes. It failed. The book was okay, though.
John Dies at the End, Jason Pargin
This Book is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It, Jason Pargin
What The Hell Did I Just Read, Jason Pargin
If This Book Exists, You're in the Wrong Universe, Jason Pargin
Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits, Jason Pargin
Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick, Jason Pargin
Zoey is Too Drunk for This Dystopia, Jason Pargin
-> Some of these are technically rereads; JDatE, Spiders, and the first Zoey book. Regardless, Pargin is an insta-buy for me.
Leech, Hiron Ennes
-> Tumblr recommendation off a random post. Very good.
American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis
-> I enjoyed this. If you can say that about this book. Taking it as what it is, I thought it was very well done.
Dead Girls Don't Say Sorry, Alex Ritany
-> Go check out @aritany if you haven't already! Wonderful human, incredible writer, new book coming out soon!
Tales from the Gas Station: Volume One, Jack Townsend
-> Trying to recapture some of Pargin's bizarre humour. Pretty similar, and I did enjoy it, but I was starting to move away from that vibe, and to be honest this just wasn't as good as Pargin.
Maze-Born Trouble, Ginn Hale
-> My only complaint with this book is it was too fucking short. 😠 Astonishing worldbuilding and a very rich story for what amounts to a novella. Love.
Altered Carbon, Richard K. Morgan
-> Following on from the scifi of Pargin's Zoey series and Maze-Born Trouble. This was good. I doubt I'll read more in the series because from the blurbs they're quite disparate, but holy hell the world that was built was incredible.
Mystic River, Dennis Lehane
-> Complicated reason why I read this that actually has to do with OOC. Also technically a reread, from a while ago. Love Lehane, though, and this as a standalone is very good. Has some examples of omniscient POV that I would almost classify as head-hopping that actually works, and as a thriller, so an interesting read for a writer as well.
Educated, Tara Westover
-> The beginning of my brief nonfiction binge.
I'm Glad My Mom Died, Jenette McCurdy
-> Because, obviously.
Eggshell Skull, Bri Lee
-> Highly HIGHLY recommended. Some heavy stuff regarding sex offences and the legal system, and quite centred in Australia, but a brilliant nonfiction read.
The Sunshine Court, Nora Sakavic
The Foxhole Court, Nora Sakavic
The Raven King, Nora Sakavic
The King's Men, Nora Sakavic
-> Why yes, I did see that The Sunshine Court had been released and immediately read it, then immediately reread All for the Game, because what the fuck else was I gonna do? Not reread it? C'mon.
Icebreaker, A.L. Graziadei
-> Note the author there, cuz I know there's another book by the same title. This one was excellent. Still not the AftG vibes I was seeking, but closest I've found reading something immediately after finishing that series.
The Ministry of Time, Kaliane Bradley
-> I know everyone's talking about it. Read it anyway.

I'm tired and sappy and so i wanna be sappy or whatever here bc nobody will know who i specifically am and nobody can call me out and i wont ruin my spooky scary reputation (someone could find me quite easily actually probably but i'll ignore that)
HAZEL. you're my sister, i promise, you arent a replacement for Bianca or anything like that, you're my little sister and i'm so SO proud of you, you're so strong and so cool and im so glad you're here, i hope you're doing okay, wherever you are. I love you
BIANCA. I'm sorry you felt like you had to baby me, and i'm sorry i wasnt a better brother to you, i wish you were able to grow up, the world is beautiful and i wish you could've seen it. I miss you
JASON. you're my best friend. I wish you would lean on me like i know i can lean on you, and i hope you know you can be whatever you want around me. I want to be there to support you like you supported me. I miss you, and i love you, and i hope wherever you are, you're doing okay
PERCY. Uh. I dont blame you for some of the things you did or said to me. I was an annoying, awful kid. I'm sorry. I hope you know that despite it all, i still consider you a friend at least, even if i dont like to talk to you a lot
REYNA. you're like a big sister to me. Not replacing Bianca, but you give me that same feeling of being safe. I'm sorry if i'm a bit clingy - or even a bit distant - or, a mix of both sometimes. You're like family to me, i just dont want to loose you again. I love you
LEO. I'm sorry for not being kinder to you, i think we could've been friends, maybe.
WILL. my sunshine, i love you so much. I'm so thankful i have you, firefly. Thank you for sticking by my side no matter what. I know i can be a pain in the ass - and i dont and will NEVER blame you for struggling with me sometimes. You're a person too, and as much as i love your support, i hope you'll trust me to try to support you, too. I love you, sunshine. I hope you're okay.

XI. I'm The Whole Dam Circus
"Where are we?" Leo cleans his nose. "I mean, what city?"
"Omaha, Nebraska," Piper replies. "I saw a billboard as we flew in. But I don't know what this mansion is. We came in right behind you, but as you were landing, Leo, I swear it looked like—I don't know—"
"Lasers," Leo and Ara say at the same time.
Jason whistles, frowning at the fence around them. "Some defense system. How are we even alive?"
"Festus," Leo explains miserably. "He took the fire. The lasers sliced him to bits as he came in so they didn't focus on you. I led him into a death trap."
"You couldn't have known," Piper tries to comfort him. "He saved our lives again."
"But what now? The main gates are locked, and I'm guessing I can't fly us out of here without getting shot down," Jason scowls at their surroundings.
"Since we can't go out, we'll have to go in," says Leo, staring up at the mansion with a frown.
They approach the house, but Leo keeps stopping Jason and Ara every now and then to deactivate traps on the go. It's impressive, and he does it without even paying attention. Ara's a little jealous, she'll never be as good as him, and that strikes a nerve.
"You're amazing, man," Jason admits in awe.
"Yeah, amazing," Leo scoffs. "Can't fix a dragon right, but I'm amazing."
"Hey, that wasn't your—"
"Front door's already unlocked," the boy walks in without waiting for them.
Ara enters after him, Jason and Piper stay behing talking in hushed whispers and Ara tries to strike up a conversation with Leo, but he speaks before she can.
"You must think I'm an A-class dipshit."
"What?"
"That was your dragon," Leo keeps searching for traps so he doesn't have to look at her. "You cared about him and I—"
"Don't pile up more guilt on yourself," Ara interrupts him sternly.
He stops. "You're saying I shouldn't apologize?"
"You're throwing a pity party," Ara responds, perhaps too harshly. "'Oh, I can't do nothing right'— stop it."
"I'm saying I'm sorry, Ara, what's your problem?" Leo scoffs.
"It's okay that you care, I get it, but self-deprecation isn't good," Ara faces him. "If you're sorry say you're sorry, don't call yourself bad things. I forbid you from being mean to yourself."
"Forbid me?" Leo's eyes widen in disbelief. "You can't control how I feel!"
"Actually, I can!" She threatens. "I have charmspeak! You keep this up—and I have ways to find out even if you do it in secret—I'll trick you into believing you're a baby rabbit!"
"Alright! Damn!" Leo steps back scowling. "Calm down..."
Jason and Piper catch up with them and Ara hears Leo mumble, though she can't quite hear what he's saying. "Where's the light switch?" Jason inquires.
"Don't see one," Leo replies.
"Fire?" Piper suggests.
The boy tries, but nothing happens. "It's not working."
"Your fire is out? Why?"
"Bad news," Ara says worryingly. "If something's blocking our powers..." It feels unlucky to have landed on the one house that's got a magical barrier protecting it.
"Okay," Piper continues. "What do we do—explore?"
Leo shakes his head. "After all those traps outside? Bad idea."
Ara scrutinizes the room. If you're a demigod looking for a place to crash, it's not the best idea to walk into a seemingly empty but highly protected mansion.
"Your silence is loud, Jackson," Leo points out.
Ara looks at him and raises a brow. She's Jackson now? What happened to Doll and Sunshine? Not that she cares, of course. "The less we spit out theories, the safer we'll be."
"So you don't know what this place is?"
"The only option we got," Ara answers, turning to Piper. "I'm really worn out after dealing with the Nemean lion—"
"Wait—that was the thing Medea sent after you?" Jason asks in shock. "How did you kill it?"
"She didn't kill it," Piper replies. "Well, not at first. She tamed it, then Medea hurt him..."
Ara takes off the pelt and offers it to Piper. "Here, let's switch again. This is bulletproof and everything, use it."
Piper takes off the purple cloak and hands it back to Ara. "The one time I'm not against using a fur coat..."
Ara seizes the cloak and stares at it. What is the point of looking like a Barbie Emperor? It's a stupid piece of garment, doesn't help her at all.
"It's a few hours until dawn," Jason rubs the back of his neck. "Let's bring the cages in and make camp in this room. Wait for daylight, then we can decide what to do."
As they eat, Ara tries to ignore the eery vibes the room gives her. She understands Annabeth a little better now, her annoying habit of never sharing her thoughts with her and Percy. Knowing stuff is dangerous, and talking about it lures them in.
"Get some sleep," Leo tells them. "You've both been up for longer than me, and you've fought more."
"Leo," Jason starts. "I'm sorry about that stuff I said in Chicago. That wasn't me. You're not annoying and you do take stuff seriously—especially your work. I wish I could do half the things you can do."
Leo stops working on the cages and looks up in exasperation. "I try very hard to be annoying—Don't insult my ability to annoy. And how am I supposed to resent you if you go apologizing? I'm a lowly mechanic. You're like the prince of the sky, son of the Lord of the Universe. I'm supposed to resent you."
"Lord of the Universe?" Jason asks with a grin.
"Sure, you're all—Bam! Lightning man. And 'Watch me fly. I am the eagle that soars—'"
"Shut up, Valdez."
"Yeah, see. I do annoy you," Leo says with a tiny smile. "But don't worry, man. Our General says I'm not allowed to feel sad, so there's no need to console me."
"That's not what I said," Ara scowls.
Jason laughs. "I apologize for apologizing," he looks at her grinning. "What's that about?"
"He got on my nerves," she sits back on the couch. "And since he's willing to resent people for no reason, I won't take it back. But if I were you, Valdez, I wouldn't envy Jason."
"Don't come at me with the 'We're all special in our own ways' bull..." Leo rolls his eyes.
"Listen, chances are Jason has a half-brother that's a fistfighting bear, and it matters very little if he can kill us with lightning, the guy's dad is still kind of a furry. We should be happy Jason isn't a creep like him."
"How are you still alive?" Jason asks in astonishment.
She smiles a little. "I never said any names, did I? Let that be another lesson—if you're gonna bitch about a god, never call them by name, or they'll listen."
"Ha!" Leo points at her with a pair of tweezers. "Honestly, sunshine, I love having you around."
"Really? You're complimenting her after she went off on me like that?" Jason frowns, but he's just as amused. "You're the worst best friend in the world."
Leo is still down, but not miserable. "Thank you, man. Now go to sleep, you two, it's gonna take a few hours to get this goat man free. Then I still got to figure out how to make the winds a smaller holding cell, 'cause I am not lugging that canary cage to California."
Ara settles on the couch, Piper's asleep on another sofa, and Jason settles on the floor, Ara gives him the purple cloak so he uses it as a blanket. Leo remains seated in front of the cages, tinkering with the locks.
Ara uses Nico's jacket as a pillow and stares at the ceiling. She isn't sleepy, covered in scratches and bruises that don't let her lie comfortably. "Hedge was the satyr who found me—good guy, but he's gotten old..." she sighs. "He shouldn't be out on the field."
"We heard," Jason says, not ready to sleep either. "Did something happen?"
"It's time for him to retire. Hedge should've done so years ago, but he doesn't want to," Ara sighs.
"Well, maybe he still has some power left in him," Jason offers.
"He should use it to enjoy life," Ara yawns. "But it does feel like it's meant to be... maybe it wasn't a mistake."
"What thing?"
"Becoming the daughter of Olympus..."
"It wasn't. You've saved us many times." Jason tells her. Ara rolls and faces the back of the couch, ending their conversation. "You did fix Festus, you know," the boy adds, this time talking to Leo. "You gave him a purpose again. I think this quest was the high point of his life."
"I hope," Leo sighs quietly. "Now, sleep, man. I want some time without you organic life forms."

Nico and Lily are holding a Mythomagic battle to pass the time. They're super serious about it, so it's amusing to watch.
"GET HER!" Nico gets up triumphantly, his dark eyes shining with fervor. For a moment, he scares me. I recognize that gaze immediately, and I realize Bianca Di Angelo should've never left camp.
On our way to the pavilion, I capture Lily's wrist. "Can we talk?"
Lily shakes her head frantically, which lets me know she's thinking the same thing I am.
"Hey, I'm taking my cards back to the big house," Nico says happily. "See you in a minute!"
"Why do you keep them there?"
"Lily told me not to trust the Hermes cabin," he shrugs.
I give her a look. "What?" She frowns. "The Stolls tried to steal my holographic cards!"
When he's out of sight, I speak in an anxious whisper. "How long have you known?"
"That he's bad news?"
"He's not bad news!" I scold her. "His sister is not safe and she's gone! Since when do you know, Lily?"
"...My patron came to me in a dream. The day you brought them to camp."
"Your patron?" I gasp. "Hades gave you those daggers! Why didn't you say so?"
"You know why."
I stare at her. Having a patron means you do stuff for them. "We have to tell Chiron," I say with concern.
She looks uncomfortable. "How do we know he's not the traitor?"
It takes me a moment to understand what she's saying. "Chiron?"
"He is his son, you know..."
I let out a nervous giggle. "You're joking..." Lily's face says the opposite. "You haven't been here long enough," I continue calmly. "Chiron loves us."
"He looked ready to strangle Thalia and Percy when they were fighting during Capture the Flag."
"Everyone wants to strangle them from time to time," I shrug.
"Don't tell him, Ara," Lily says earnestly.
"What did he tell you?" I press. "Nico's dad."
Her jaw clenches. "I can't say."
I sigh, to be honest, Nico's better off not knowing who he is. "Let me help you," I offer. "Bianca's out there and..." It hits me. "She's immortal. She can't be the child of the prophecy."
"So she's in danger," Lily's eyes widen. "We have to warn Percy!"
Tumblr media
Ara wakes up with a start. The room is just as dark as when they stopped talking, but she doesn't feel sleepy anymore, so she lifts herself up a bit and turns, supporting her chin on the armrest.
Leo is still working on the cages. It's too dark but something tells her he doesn't need to see what he's doing. Again, she feels jealous... and a little attracted to him as well.
Ara pays attention to the outline of his face, Leo is kind of cute when he's all serious and focused. He hasn't noticed she's awake yet. She moves and presses a bruise on accident, hissing at the feeling. The noise startles Leo.
"What's wrong?" The way he whispers in a raspy voice makes her heart skip a beat.
Ara sits up, every muscle in her body is sore and stiff. "Don't worry—just need to sleep this off."
Leo puts his tools down and stands up, he approaches and gets on one knee in front of her. "If you've got a fracture, it's gonna be worse if we wait."
Ara looks at him bashfully, but Leo doesn't notice. He holds her arm closer to his eyes so he can see her injuries better. It's not like he's never touched her before, he carried her after she passed out, but this is different, he's touching her so gently... Her skin starts to glow, illuminating Leo's features, but only she can see it.
The boy makes a face when he sees her bruises. "Jeez, Ara, you should've said something..."
Ara has seen her friends fall in love many times, but it always went from platonic to romantic. She didn't think it was real, that you can fall for someone without being friends first. When she's alone with Leo, she gets a feeling of anti-gravity in the pit of her stomach when he gets near, it makes her dizzy... and it's wonderful.
"I didn't know it was this serious..." Ara's not talking about the bruises, but Leo doesn't know, so he tries to comfort her.
"I can't mend bones like you, but I can try?"
Ara sniffs, quickly gathering her thoughts. "Pass me the T-Rex."
He blinks. "The what?"
"The maimed dino."
Leo finds her old bag on the floor and passes it to her. "Hey, I didn't ask 'cause I didn't want to upset you... But isn't that bag a bit too..?"
Ara nods knowingly. "My brother gave it to me. He gave me those kinds of plushies on Valentine's Day every year, and I used to carry our snacks in them when I was younger."
"Why?" Leo questions, then adds. "And why on Valentine's Day?"
"He says that's my real birthday," she chuckles. "He thought it was a funny joke, beats me why. This bag reminds me of him, so who cares if it's not fit for a General?"
Leo stares at the ruined bag with a mortified expression. "Did this happen when we fell?"
"I don't know, didn't look at it until we got here," Ara opens it and pulls out a square of ambrosia and her bottle of nectar. "Watch and learn, rookie. This is your third lesson."
Leo sits next to her, paying close attention. Ara crushes the ambrosia on a paper plate, pours a spoonful of nectar over it, and then mixes the stuff until it's a thick batter. The girl gets up and takes the mix to the backyard so it cools down.
Outside is quiet, and beautiful. The snow has already covered the wreckage they brought into the garden and it reflects the moonlight all around them. Ara feels cold, but she ignores it.
They sit on the entrance steps while they wait, and Leo tries not to stare too hard at all the injuries on Ara's body. He's also trying not to feel guilty about it since it wasn't really his and Jason's fault that she and Piper had to fight on their own. It's not coming easy.
Ara pulls the compass out of her pocket and stares at it, deep in thought. "Almighty."
"What?"
She presses something on the object and it turns into a sword. Ara holds it in front of Leo. "This is Almighty."
"Oh," he says, still not understanding. "Yeah, I'm sure it's—"
"No," she chuckles. "Pantodýnamos. Almighty. You said I probably thought it was silly to name the dragon, but names have power." She presses the alpha on the hilt and it turns back into a compass. "Your father gave this sword to me, Annabeth thought he was giving me a piece of junk to humor me, but the gods don't give things just cause you're cute. Unless it's my mother, but that's—"
"Another story. Go on."
Ara smiles at his impatience. She grabs the recently made ointment, ready to be used. "I don't know what to do with it when it's not a sword... what I'm trying to say is, it's hard to understand everything about our world in just a few days. I'm sorry I made you feel stupid, that was never my intention."
The girl tries to apply the ointment but she can't see the cuts on her forearm very well, and she also shivering 'cause she left Nico's jacket inside. Leo helps her, he leans closer and gets to work on her scratches and bruises, and Ara hopes it looks like she's blushing from the cold.
"When I talked to my dad," Leo says, trying to focus on what he's doing instead of whom he's healing. "It sounded like he respected you, doesn't surprise me you got the sword from him."
Ara should be flattered, but she focuses on a different thing. "He mentioned me?"
Leo clears his throat. "He—er, he said we're meant to... uh... partner up."
Ara blushes even more, but she tries to keep a straight face. "During this quest, or..?"
"I'm not sure," Leo keeps his eyes fixed on her injuries.
"Maybe he's talking about the big prophecy, but I don't know why he would single us out..." Ara might've imagined it, but for a moment Leo looks annoyed at the idea.
He holds her face without warning, and Ara jumps out of reach. He gets even more upset when she does this. "Hey, I know I'm gross and all but can you hold that thought for a moment? I gotta fix your face..."
Ara is so embarrassed she doesn't have the courage to explain. "I don't need—"
"What if it leaves a scar?" Leo's voice comes out a little sharper than before, once again reaching for her. "An Aphrodite must hate the thought of getting marks, right?"
"I had scars," she replies a little insulted. "I was proud of 'em. Now I have nothing to prove I worked hard for what I wanted."
Leo's thumb is under her chin keeping her head up, and his index is brushing the cut on her lower lip. For the briefest moment, it looks like he's about to kiss her. Ara's heart is beating so fast she's sure he can hear it. Then he presses on the cut and causes her to withdraw.
"Ouch!"
"My bad—had to make sure it wasn't a stain," Leo looks away as he replies.
"You're so weird..." she mumbles, holding her lip.
"You're weirder," the boy replies, quickly recovering from the awkward moment. "You've barely seen the half of it, though. Most people get tired after a few days, I give you a week."
"You'll have to stretch that," she replies. "Cause I got a lot of odd friends, and I don't mind spending time with you at all."
Leo stands and helps her up, still not looking back at her. "Thank you," Ara gestures at her injuries. "For helping me. You didn't have to."
"Well, you saved my friends..." he says awkwardly before walking away.
Ara's a bit hurt because his actions feel like a conscious effort. He's pulling himself back, but she's pretty sure his hand lingered before he let go of her.
She should be glad that he's trying to avoid her, because, is she even trying at all? A shiver runs up her spine, reminding her she's standing in the cold.
"Di immortalis," Ara mutters, reentering into the mansion. "I'm so predictable..."

Note
cassie and bart for the headcanon thing <3
YEAAAA cassie first :)
Headcanon A:  realistic
oh girliepop the comp het. oh sweetheart. she doesn't figure out that she was "attracted" to kon bc of gender envy until she's like 20. it feels like a huge epiphany.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
accidentally zapped herself with her own lasso once while trying to train with it. donna was watching. donna has photos of cassie's hair all sticking straight up. they went directly in the big sister blackmail folder.
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
she gets mean when she's angry or hurt. usually she can keep it under control, but one time not long after "graduation day", she snapped at bart so hard kon didn't talk to her for three full days. she apologized, but the guilt ate at her for weeks after, despite the grief still festering. it was not a good time in her life.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
please god let her out of the closet let her be the butch lesbian she yearns to be. she is the butch lesbian of my heart <3 the gender euphoria she has when she cuts her hair short again and starts dressing more masc... she's (literally) walking on air. one of her friends has to tug her back down to earth before they can leave the fitting rooms at the mall
E BART!!!
Headcanon A:  realistic
cissie taught him how to braid hair! he practiced on her, which was very kind of her, because he did just tie it into a bunch of knots the first time. she said it was kind of impressive that he fucked up that bad, and made him go find kon to ttk her hair straight again. bart didn't tell her he forgot he was trying to braid it and just started tying knots for fun, but he has a feeling she guessed.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
he enjoys harassing jason todd because jason hurt tim that one time and also because it's funny. yell louder gun man!!!
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
he never did tell any of his friends that his mom called him sunshine. it felt kind of nice to keep it to himself, and anyway, he's more than used to being alone.
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
he never became kid flash literally fuck that that was so stupid. he's impulse and he has always been impulse and if he Ever becomes anything else, it's mercury.
