Was on reddit (something I deeply regret after doing it, yet do anyways) and apparently it turns out a whole boatload of people seem to dislike the new Superman movie because he "loses too much" or other characters carry the film too much.

Well firstly, he doesn't lose too much, we open the film with "this is his first loss" or something, and dude pulls off one crazy feat after another. Secondly! I've always thought about how to make characters like Superman and Batman interesting or relatable, and considering the gifts Superman has, getting smacked down and having to learn how to use his powers is a hell of a lot more relatable than "magically knows how to perfectly use his abilities and beats everyone left and right".

Superman routinely superheroes with a non-lethal handicap (which is pretty crazy for a guy like him to accomplish, given his comic book history of flicking people away with two fingers). So I thoroughly enjoyed watching him navigate how to save lives and try to minimize damage from threats as much as possible.

Thirdly, do people think other superheroes in the DC universe just sit on their asses/call Superman on the regular? Other heroes, especially better established ones, have to be competent and incredible in their own right. Otherwise, why the hell would people tune in to any kind of universe? Also in the film, the world just felt so much richer with the side characters and subplots. Wouldn't trade that for anything.

Batman, exhausted, then gets into the Uber and accidentally tells them to go to Wayne Manor leading him to hastily, blearily trying to come up with an explanation for why he urgently needs to visit Bruce Wayne of all people in the middle of the night.

Batman, so exhausted he forgets to vanish and just stands there:

Gordon, turning around, mid-heartattack: "Jesus you're still here!"

Batman: *waking up a little* "Right, I'll head out now."

Gordon, thoroughly creeped out: "Man, please tell me you're not about to drive like this."

Batman: "Don't be ridiculous--"

Gordon: "Thank Go--"

Batman: "I'm going to use the Batglider then the Batmotorbike."

Gordon:

Gordon: "I will arrest you, have one of those kids drive you, or call an Uber!" *turns to see Batman gone*

Gordon:

Been thinking about how the new Superman movie did a really good job of giving Clark interests beyond “Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow.” He likes pop punk rock. His favorite meal is breakfast for dinner. Clark does a little dance when he gets the front cover byline. He likes to doom-scroll. Unclear if he’s a dog guy. His girlfriend makes him hot cocoa when he’s sad. So often Superman in film has zero personality beyond tortured alien that must guide humanity. Giving him these small details made the character feel so much more real. He really is just a guy doing his best.
