“No.” He’s in Barty’s space now, crowding him against the side of the building without quite touching him, the length of the cigarette in Barty’s fingers measuring the distance between them. Like this, it becomes clear that he and James are almost the exact same height.

Barty grins, cigarette held between his teeth. He reaches out to grab hold of James’ hips, flipping them around to reverse their positions and press James’ back against the wall. James allows it, though Barty can feel the tension hit his muscles as he loses whatever upper hand he stupidly believed he had.

“Ah,” Barty says, as if reaching a new realization. “I know what it is.” Leaving one hand at James’ waist, he snakes the other up the narrow space between their bodies to recapture the cigarette with two fingers. “You like the burn.”

With his chin forced back as it is, James can only follow Regulus with his eyes as he leans in, putting more weight on his hand. His fingers tighten, compressing arteries, restricting the vital flow of blood to James’ brain. Wisps of dark hair tickle against James’ skin, and his vision blurs, light-headedness quickly encroaching.

“You’ll work hard for me, won’t you?” Regulus’s nose brushes along his jaw, a sensation that James is only distantly aware of. He is caught up in the pressure of the hand on his throat and the haze bearing down on him, the delightful, frightening cloud of it suffused with the fresh scent of Regulus’ cologne. An opponent hardly even exerting himself.

When Regulus lets go, the sudden rush of oxygen hits James like a tidal wave, so good it leaves him shivering and giddy. Regulus steps back, hand returning to his side like he never tried to choke James at all. In his unsteady state, James almost doubts whether he ever really did.

^that little sentence got me thinking, what is they then accept it? What if eventually James and Barty become completely amazed with each other (and even and reggie have been friends since they hooked up to make jarty jealous). What if eventually you take the parentheses out of the sentences.

What if eventually the last paragraph becomes Barty seeing James with Reg or Even and smiling, because his Jamie is working his Rosie/Arctie so well. And James is fine with Barty giving his loves what they want because he knows Barty is good at giving them (james included) what they want.

eventually James and Barty become possessive together. Even and Reg grinding on dancing with each other while they James and Barty try to keep it in their pants because they’re in public before giving up and dragging they’re boyfriends to the bathroom (in which people outside can hear four voices moaning)

Because obviously after all of this they are still toxic as fuck. And they still get possessive and compete and whatever, but more so than that they work together.

(And james still fucks his loves in front of the window when he knows barty is coming over because barty HATES to not be there when they’re cuming so it makes him pissed which is ultimately a very good thing for james)

like okay rosestarkillerchaser starting out as bartylus and jevan is messy like when it's jeg and rosekiller they're established relationships so it's different but the other way around... it's not that at all

jevan are friends with benefits who refuse to believe there's anything else between them (there is) meanwhile bartylus are together but also they aren't like it's so much easier to put them in that little box and everyone around them does but they aren't "boyfriends" in the way everyone else views them that doesn't stop them from being possessive as shit (especially on barty's side of things)

so when they see each other in a random bar bartylus are dancing but regulus' eyes are fully on james and he doesn't look away and evan's looking over at barty and they all think the others are in relationships because well... they're all jealous as shit despite wanting to get in the others pants like james won't let barty touch evan but he wants to touch regulus and barty won't let him get anywhere near him but he pulls evan into the bathroom to stick his hand down his pants

they're all competing and it's not like they are actually cheating because none of them are exclusive but it feels like they are and everyone likes everyone but no one is saying anything and it's all just a mess.... but also that's what rosestarkillerchaser is meant to be
