Kim rok soo gives up everything he thinks he doesn't need if the situation calls for it

His whole explanation for his very clear self sacrificial tendencies is the fact that whatever he's sacrificing, he believes he can go without

I'm currently re-reading the god of despair arc and his conversation with jang man soo caught my attention

Krs slept in the corner of the shelter where rain kept leaking in, at first i thought it was because park jin tae absolutely hated him but then jang man soo says "you chose that spot."

And it just kinda clicked that he doesn't consider anything besides the basic things to stay alive as a necessity

He thinks any sort of comfort is a luxury

He wants it, but he doesn't exactly need it

And doesn't mind giving it up if someone else needs it more

I feel like he sleeps in the corner on purpose because jang man soo is already clearly suicidal and krs doesn't want him to actually keel over from getting sick because of the leak, he knows jang man soo wouldn't complain about his illness until it was too late. He's old and his body is weak, idk if he'd survive being sick during the literal apocalypse. krs doesn't joke around with anybodies life

I also think he easily chose the spot with the leak because (this is my headcanon at least) he doesn't really feel temperature. I feel like krs was affected more by the white stars curse than he admits, sure he had some sense of taste and feel but his senses were probably dulled to the point he could easily ignore the discomfort

So whatever doesn't kill him, he can deal with it

He grew up like that anyway

He's used to being deprived of comfort, it's natural for him to be uncomfortable even if he complains and says he doesn't like it

What other people consider suffering is just an inconvenience for him

He's never had anything to take for granted ever since he was a kid

Reality absolutely crushed his standards of living ever since his parents died and we see that through everything he does

He doesn't falter at being overworked and underfed, that has been his natural state for 15-16 years now

In fact, transmigrating as cale henituse is more of a vacation to him than anything

Everyone thinks he's suffering but he just considers it as "working hard", it's was his job to starve while keeping his people fed when he was the team leader, because there was never enough to go around at first.

Once Korea was restored to some extent and scarcity was less of an issue due to ability users who had crop related abilities or something of the sort, he let himself indulge in the luxury of eating more often. It wasn't a big change, but still.

My heart breaks every time i think about the fact when he had his first meal as cale henituse, it was the most he had eaten in one sitting in 15-16 years. He usually doesn't comment on things but he was so insistent on the fact that beacroxs' cooking was good despite being absolutely terrified of the guy says a lot.

As we wait for the finale of When the Phone Rings, I have to mention that it is truly one of the best shows of 2024!! The storyline, the characters are all so well done and the complex screenwriting just boosts the show! It just keeps us at the edge of our seats and constantly guessing throughout the 10 episodes that have aired so far!

Truly hoping for Baek Sa eon and Hong Hee joo to get the happiness they deserve. They have such good chemistry and they love each other deeply, and are willing to go to any extent to protect their partner. Happiness and love are the only things they deserve 😭♥️. The actors did a brilliant job!!!! 😍

Kudos to the entire team for creating such a good show, touching almost all the genres and cannot wait for the finale!

PS: Super glad that they finally showed that Ji Sang Woo is not a bad guy! As someone rooting for him since he first appeared, it was truly a relief 😅♥️. And shipping him with Yuri because she is just walking sunshine ✨.

I have a headcanon of BaekHong being this power couple even as they raise their daughter.

They're very hands on. The nanny, Mrs.Jang, is always available but she feels like it's the easiest gig she ever got. She's seen other rich families just birthing the child and giving it to the nanny to look after. They only feed or play with it when convenient but not Mr. Baek and Mrs.Baek. Soobin is the light of their existance. They both wouldn't be at peace until they saw her once back from work. Mrs.Baek would only go for a few hours, most of the time taking Soobin and the nanny with her. She never would have believed someone like Ms.Hong would find a way to conduct her meetings but still cradle her inconsolable child in her office. She had never imagined Mr. Baek would play with her in his office plain for all to see. She also hadn't imagined either of the parents' amusement when the 6 month old puked on designer bags and clothes. She had seen children resented and glared at for that. But not this rich couple. They loved their child like their life depended on it. Even when tired, overworked, frustrated they made time for their daughter always. Mrs.Jang often felt like the last resort. Moments when even she could see that the strain of work and life could no longer render them available to care for their child she took over for them. But even then these moments were scarce. She had heard months into her employment that the couple was actually against hiring her but had only agreed due to incessant requests of the child's maternal grandmother.

So when she was informed that the couple was throwing a big networking party for the Queens department store, she was sure this was her moment to shine. Because what rich couple feeds, changes, plays or cares about their child in the presence of 400+ highly influential people. Even if they both wanted to they wouldn't find the time.

But come day of the event, Haein was all dolled up looking magnificent beside Mr. Baek as they both laughed and dressed up their 6 month old baby. During the party, Soobin went from welcoming guests in her Armani clad suit father's arms. To discussing complex legal matters and networking with him still viewing the world from the high vantage point her father's height afforded her. Smiles representative of only pure joy, adored Hyunwoo and Hae-in's face each time they talked, interacted or received a smile from Baby Soobin.

At long last Soobin urged her father to put her to sleep in his arms where he kept her for half an hour before parting with her achingly in Mrs.Jang's care. When she woke up hours later fussing, he was there before the nanny could try to appease her. She had seen him excuse himself as soon as politely possible as Soobin continued to cry. He stood there, fully dressed trying to appease her a while before he went to his wife who was deep in conversation trying to recruit brands for her store. Mrs. Jang knew it was an important event for Mrs. Baek, so she expects not to see her all night near Soobin. From what she had heard (but never seen) about the couple's rocky relationship she thought this would be it. She would now see them fight as he dared approach her during such important talks.

But for Haein, seeing her husband walk towards her with their adorable daughter in his hands was a sight in and of itself. Her eyes were already on them. Hyunwoo politely greets everyone and leans in close to her to say: 'I've tried everything I could. I think she needs you.' She pauses her conversation on the spot. Says her apologies and moves inside to care for her daughter. Hyunwoo takes up the conversation and sells the store for her until she comes back with a happy Soobin in her arms for the crowd to coo at. Among the many photos the photographer had taken of the night their favourite remains of Soobin absolutely overjoyed to see her father as her mother mirrors both of their joy at being able to witness the moment.

Little do the happy family know there's gossip - and a lot of it at that. There's gossip on the mighty lawyer Hyunwoo being a wuss who's not in control of the house. On Hyunwoo not doing his part as a father 'So what if he has a pretty face, he should be slaving away taking care of his daughter why give her to the mother when things get difficult?' On Haein for being duped by his charms. On Haein for holding the baby wrong. For growing soft, for being dumb enough to ignore big shot CEOs because a human with a brain not even fully developed was crying.

No one sees the couple take respite in caring for their adorable daughter. Even when Soobin cries the shrillest, it makes Hyun woo just pick up another toy and Haein make the funniest face she can think of to appease her. They know the pain of the loss of a child. They cannot fathom not doing everything in their power to love this gift of theirs. No matter what she does she has both of them wrapped around her fingers. Because they're the luckiest to have her and call themselves her parents. It feels like a miracle each day and they'd be damned if they let a stupid department store take that away from them. So what if they lost a contract or two, the extra wons wouldn't fill up their candy jar. After all, all the money they had couldn't bring back their baby either.

A/N: This is one of my all time, favourite films! I love Ma Dong-Seok's character and I have thought multiple times about climbing this man like a tree. I think it's all the tattoos....

Jang Dong-Soo was not a kind man. He was ruthless, unforgiving, and wasn’t averse to using violence to get what he wanted. He lived a dangerous life, and he had plenty of scars and tattoos to prove it. His back, chest and arms were covered in thick black markings, evidence of his gang affiliation. Each inking told a story, marking out his career as Seoul’s most notorious gangster. Scars littered his body, deep, twisted knots of raised skin that were lasting reminders of knife fights, fist fights and one gunshot wound. He’d been closer to death more times than he’d had hot dinners, but you didn’t get to his position by avoiding confrontation.

He had more money than he knew what to do with, a penthouse apartment in the most expensive area of Seoul, and several vacation homes throughout the world. He drove the most expensive cars, wore the most expensive suits, and hired the most expensive, most ruthless security. Only idiots dared to cross Dong-Soo; and they never made it out the other side alive.

His injuries had landed him in A&E more times than he could count, and the police were always called. They knew exactly who he was and had been trying to arrest him for years, but Dong-Soo was too smart for them. “I fell,” he’d say when he was questioned over a knife that was sticking clean out of his thigh. “You fell onto a knife?” The detectives weren’t idiots either, they knew Dong-Soo was lying, but they had nothing to pin on him. He was careful, despite his numerous injuries, to always play it down as just an unfortunate accident. But he wasn’t fooling anyone; especially not you.

You were the nurse who always need to tend to his wounds. You often joked he needed a frequent flyers card, his visits almost a monthly occurrence. Dong-Soo was a hulk of a man, his broad muscles and chest so expansive he commanded every room he walked into. In your small treatment room, he took up most of the space, perched on the bed as you stitched him up time and time again. You never asked him about what had happened; you’d learned that he was never going to tell you, and you didn’t get paid enough to push for answers. He was such a mystery to you though, his tattooed body and brooding features staying in your mind long after he’d left the hospital. You’d stitched up wounds on his stomach, chest and arms, his muscles rock solid against your soft fingers. You found yourself wondering what it would feel like to trace every line of every tattoo, how it would feel to have his hulk-like hands around your waist. He had a dangerous, unnerving energy about him, one that awoke your deepest desires. But you also noticed an underlying sweetness. He was always so kind to you, his voice always so soft when he spoke to you. He was nothing like his brooding, violent self around you; around you he was a giant teddy bear.

Dong-Soo had noticed you too. He’d paid your boss off to make sure he was always treated by you. You were beautiful, and kind, and Dong-Soo enjoyed seeing you, even if the only time he was around you was when he was having blood cleaned off him. You didn’t take any shit, you were witty and fiercely intelligent, and you were almost always on his mind. He wished he could take things further, but relationships in his line of work were dangerous. The people he worked with, the gangs he fought against, they wouldn’t hesitate to take out his family, if he had one. So, he kept a wide berth when it came to women, shunning relationships in place of one-night stands. He didn’t even have friends, not that he was the kind of person who made friends. But any relationship that wasn’t purely professional was something his enemies could use against him.

He'd often think of you though, wonder if he’d be able to be with you in another lifetime. He had no doubt that you’d keep him on his toes, that you’d challenge him, and almost certainly make him a better man. You seemed so small against his hulking frame, and on the nights, he couldn’t sleep, he thought about how it would feel to pick you up, your body trembling against his as he fucked you. He wondered how you’d look when you were riding him, whether your moans would be loud, whether your nails would leave marks down his body.

His life was so full of riches, and luxury and expense. But all he really wanted was a woman he could build a life with; a woman like you. But you were a woman he couldn’t have, a luxury he simply couldn’t obtain.

The life he led was too dangerous, his world too unpredictable. No matter how great his desires, you were the one thing he could never have.
