A Florida Legacy: Sam and Robbie Vickers’ transformational gift to the Harn Museum of Art
Here is the video on The Florida Art Collection, an extensive collection of Florida-themed paintings, drawings, and watercolors that includes many prominent American artists from the late 19th to the mid-20th centuries including paintings by such celebrated artists as Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent gifted by Samuel and Roberta Vickers as the collection transitions from their North Florida home to the Harn Museum of Art.
Shoutout to everyone who assisted me and my team in helping tell the story behind this collection.

Finished episode 2.3 of "Rings of Power" and it was great too!!! 😀 This season is off to an amazing start, and I can't wait to see the other episodes over the next 5 weeks. I'm still going to wait to reblog things tomorrow, but I'm checking the tags again and finding things to post tomorrow. Just want to say still amazed at Charlie Vickers' acting this year, and just saw how he rejoined Instagram today, as he had an account years ago when he was filming "Medici", so he's officially back online. Also, realized there's a least 3 "My Lady Jane" cast members on the show too now, and I'm still sad that show got cancelled before it could finish adapting the book. Full thoughts on the episodes behind the cut.
Ep 2.3 was really good and focused more on what's going on with Númenor, the Southlanders, and what happened to Isildur. I loved seeing Berek get focus and find Isildur and helped save him from Shelob. I'm also into the Isildur/Estrid ship, but a lot of us had a feeling she'd end up working with Adar and/or Sauron, and it was right but it looks like she might be trying to change.
Then after the news broke that Bronwyn's actress was leaving and they weren't recasting we all knew she was likely getting killed off, and she did. That funeral scene was so sad and I feel so bad for Theo and Arondir. Still wondering too if that theory from s1 is true and Theo will be one of the 9 men.
We also got a lot of focus on Númenor and what's going on there. Was wondering when Miriel was going to be overthrown by Ar-Pharazon and it happened already. And that Eärien would switch sides and join with The King's Men against The Faithful. Got me even more curious when not only Isildur will return to help, but also Elendil's other son Anárion will show up and lead the Faithful, setting up for when they all escape at the downfall.
We still got scenes of Annatar/Sauron with Celebrimbor and the dwarves, and getting them to agree to make their rings too. And I loved seeing Damrod the troll, and that Glug the orc not only have a wife but a baby!!! 😲
As for the "My Lady Jane" cast on here, it's at least Will Keen who plays the advisor to Ar-Pharzon, Kevin Eldon as Narvi, and then Jim Broadbent who is voicing an Ent.
Overall another great ep and now the wait till next week. Do wonder though if they decided to give us a 3 ep premiere since a lot of the elves' storylines weren't in episode 2.3 and we would've went a week without them on here.

I saw this movie weeks ago and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it, even though I've also had trouble figuring out what to say about it. It's hard to even pin down the genre; it's sort of a horror movie, or maybe it's more of a psychodrama with magic realist elements. The opening and climax are absolutely stunning, real feats of spectacle and shocking in their content, while the middle is this strange, elliptical blend of dramaturgy and dream sequence. A business trip forces Edward Woodward to miss his precocious teenage daughter Samantha Weysom's violin recital, which insult fills their household with an unbearable tension. Only the cynical matriarch Jane Merrow perceives the neurotic underpinnings of this situation, as Woodward is too sure of himself and too far under the spell of his eccentric child to grasp the unseemly thing that is happening between them. The fact that it is writer-director Lindsay Vickers' only feature is incredible. To say more about it would spoil how surprising it is, and in any case I'm still chewing on it. Maybe I'll try to say something less ponderous next Blogtober, but for now I can tell you that there's a BFI blu ray of it, so you don't have to hunt down a rare and expensive VHS tape anymore. Thanks to @still-single for turning me onto this one!

WIP Wed - deaf Steve, please!!! <3 <3
Ahhh hello! As the final requester and devoted reader of the series, I give you a pretty sizeable snippet. Consider it a teaser for chapter 1!
From, "we can be heroes" <3
Dear Steve, I have been in California for almost six months. It feels more like ten years! Joyce says time is funny like that. Emotions can make it speed up or slow down. We are all time travelors if you think about it.  Everything is the same. Joyce has a new job where she gets to work at home. I guess that is different. She says she loves the freedom, but I think she misses having somewhere to go. Like I get to go to school! School is going better, by the way. I am still best at math, but my grammer is getting good now also. Ms. Vickers says she has a boyfriend now but she will not tell me his name. She told me about him on accident. I think sometimes I am so quiet people don’t know I am listening. But quiet people listen the most, right? Unless they are loozing  losing their hearing.   Kidding! I hope it is okay that I made that joke.  Will is painting a lot, but he won’t show me what he is working on. Maybe it is for a girl. I think there is someone he likes, because he has been acting weird. Jonathan is acting weird also. I think he is just nervous about college. He is still waiting for his big letter. I hope he and Nancy get to go together, but I don’t know how he’ll ever get to college because his car is so broken.  His funny friend Argyle has been taking us to school. His hair is longer than mine, and he and Jonathan like to smoke smelly plants together. Jonathan says the plants are super safe because they come from the earth, but to not tell Joyce. I don’t really understand it but that is okay.  Mike is coming soon for spring break and I want to kiss him SO MUCH! I hope that is okay to tell you. Will does not like it when I talk about it. He thinks it is gross. But I really like kissing Mike. It is only a little gross sometimes.  I hope you are well. How is the girl from the mall? Mike says she is your girlfriend now. Do you like kissing her? Love, Jane

see rules on the main blog. this one will probably be deleted in a week. here’s a short list of people who might be here :
jane doe : a proxy, doll-chipped and everything, working as a courier of sorts carrying data to and fro across night city and spitting it out with little memory of what it was in the first place. she’s got some regular customers, but more recently has been trying to get out of the game. shamelessly inspired by johnny mnemonic. fc : tba.
valeria “ v ” vickers : streetkid v, val’s whole life has been spent on the mean streets of night city, scraping along to get by. always a big girl, she got into lifting and soon got jobs as huscle for small time gangsters, one of whom offered her a job in atlanta. that didn’t pan out and she ended up right back where she was, maybe worse off. generally happy go lucky, a bit of a health nut, boxer. fc : katy o’brian.
annie outlaw : a nomad - born country rock singer, her music’s mostly distributed via pirate broadcasts. constantly moving, constantly grooving, she’s joined by her band most of the time in a small clan of their own. sometimes they’ll take shelter with other nomads. currently they’re in the badlands around night city, hopping corpo channels to strum the night away. fc : riley keough.
and more, but these are the brainworm’s right now.

The Vickers Family Art Collection Arrives at the Harn Museum
It’s moving day and the massive collection of Florida art has arrived at the Harn Museum of Art. Thanks to an extraordinary donation from Sam and Robbie Vickers, their once-private collection has found its public “forever home” at the Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida. Over a few days, I was able to document the behind the scenes process as Harn staff excitedly welcomed a truckload of more than 1,200 drawings, oil paintings, and watercolors — the largest single art collection ever gifted to the university.
The inaugural exhibition, A Florida Legacy: Gift of Samuel H. and Roberta T. Vickers, opens Feb. 26 and runs through Aug. 1, 2021. Art lovers will be able to marvel up close at Robert J. Curtis’s iconic 1838 portrait of Seminole leader Osceola; Winslow Homer’s action-filled Foul Hooked Black Bass; John Singer Sargent’s masterful Palm Thicket; Martin Johnson Heade’s rare Oleanders; Ralston Crawford’s soaring Overseas Highway #2; and Jane Peterson’s vibrant gouache, Toucans, Parrot Jungle — to name just a few of the delights on view.

🌟 2024 BOOK PROMOS 🌟
Hope you guys don't mind seeing such a long post. I thought it would be best to keep it on a single post than doing so one-by-one for each promo.
TCOTRB (The Case of The Red Bubble)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inspired by classic horror movie titles and current events in the Philippines, this huge lore-driven novel with its colorful illustrations will surely have you glued to your seats and wanting more.
Set in the year 2050 when the archipelago has been rebuilt into a series of dome islands, follow fourteen-year-old Milo Sidaris, a young Filipino-Greek boy, and his friends as they eventually uncover one of the country's deadliest mysteries. Why does the government forbid anyone from venturing into The Capital/Red Dome island? How do you explain the mysterious disappearances going around the country?
TCOTRB: The Case of The Red Bubble - Haru Nikko (日光春) - Wattpad
Believe it or not, this was a rushed project where I had to challenge myself to write a 50K novel in preparation for the annual Wattys in 2022. I did it almost every day and would mostly write on my phone. I wasn't able to make it and when I did get to join the following year, I didn't make the cut. Still, I am somehow proud of it!
AMANDI: The Secret Messenger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, here's a fun fact: I wasn't expecting to make this sequel. I thought TCOTRB was supposed to be a single series but it turns out there is more to write about this story. If I were to describe it, it's Liam Vickers meets Detective Conan.
"Amandi." A name that means 'trust no one' in Nigerian. While is unknown who they really are, this anonymous host has a reputation for being controversial in terms of questioning the status quo and serving as the voice of the underdogs. How can anyone ever trust someone like Amandi especially when this person just showed up out of nowhere and already has a huge platform? What could he or she possibly be hiding? Join Milo and his friends as they deal with college, new faces and a huge mystery that could ultimately break their friendship.
It's gonna be released on July 21st, 2024. Only on Wattpad.
SYNTHETIC BLUE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another graphic novel I've made back in 2021. What makes it unique is this was entirely drawn on an iPhone. I was going for that rough chalk-pastel art style while also incorporating sci-fi elements. The premise is this:
Year 2126 in Jokkmokk, Sweden. Twelve-year-old Jane teams up with her only two friends - Oz and Lukas - to know why her father, Prime Minister Oskar Sandberg, established Blue City (a place for social outcasts) in a remote town up north and moved the entire family there. For some reason, the people outside of the city seems to avoid the Sandbergs.
I have it published both on Webtoon and Wattpad as part of cross-promotion. You can read it on either platforms, by the way. (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Just realized looking up Xavier Samuel's IMDB that he played Morfydd Clark's love interest in the Jane Austen movie "Love and Friendship" (gif of them below)!!! :D I knew he looked familiar besides him looking like Charlie Vickers when he's clean shaven, which was totally intentional as he's playing one of Alice Hart's love interests Moss in "The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart" and Charlie plays her dad and the actor playing Dylan looks like scruffy Charlie too (the book had it in there that Alice was drawn to men similar to her father). But even weirder there's another connection to Morfydd and Haladriel here too, which also now has me thinking of Celebrían and Elrond now too. LOL
