BeetleJuice BeetleJuice (2024)
Finally the juice is loose !! BeetleJuice BeetleJuice may have taken decades to fruition, but it was worth every moment of the wait. Seeing Michael Keaton reprise his role after nearly 4 decades was a true delight. The soundtrack was equally captivating, with Danny Elfman returning to craft a score that paid homage to key moments from the original. His eerie, intense music once again heightened the film’s atmosphere.
Jenna Ortega shines as Astrid, with a performance that feels like a natural extension of her Lydia’s character. Her personality mirrors the teenage Lydia in many ways, and Ortega brings an energy that makes her the standout of the film. Michael Keaton, as Beetlejuice, is easily the best part of the film, a top notch. Lydia herself, played by Winona Ryder, isn't the same as I knew from the predecessor; she still processed her fear towards BeetleJuice, at the same time being a caring mother to Astrid. As for her appearance, I am amazed that she still stuck with her goth style outfit after all these years.
Regarding the new additions to the cast, Monica Bellucci portrays Delores, a soul-sucking characters who is initially positioned as a significant threat but ends up having minimal impact to the story. Her character is swiftly eliminated near the film's conclusion, making her entire arc feel somewhat unnecessary. Meanwhile, Willem Dafoe makes a surprise cameo as a police officer, adding an extra layer of chaos and humour to the film.
I really wish Barbara and Adam were in this sequel. While Tim Burton tries to recreate iconic moments from the original, these scenes don't always have the same impact, but it doesn't hurt the film. Overall, it's an enjoyable return to a world many have missed.

More @bjfanfilm artwork because I got hyperfixated on Beetlejuice but got mildly tired of drawing musical Babs.

"Falling in Loathe: How Beetlejuice and Lydia Met."
After hearing Winona Ryder say she wants Beej and Lyds to end up together, I thought of my version of how the two characters first met.
It's a General Audience fic, based heavily on the cartoonverse, but with some movieverse as well.
Falling in Loathe: How Beetlejuice and Lydia Met, on AO3.
Here'a an illustration I did, of when Beej first spots Lydia, and a few photos I used for inspiration.
And a few more illustrations.

Rewatching Beetlejuice before going to see the second later, and honestly realtors like Jane irritate me. Why should a could give up their comfortable spacious home that they wanted if they don't have a big family? They may be thinking about starting one or can't start one or don't want one and just wanted the big home because they fell in love with it too

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016)
In recent years, the projects handed to Tim Burton may have felt right on paper but in execution didn’t suit his filmmaking style at all (looking at you, Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland). Despite these mistakes, we keep coming back. Why? Because when he’s the man for the job, there’s no one better - as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children demonstrates. This quirky, slightly dark celebration of the weird suits him perfectly.
Jake Portman (Asa Butterfield) travels to a reclusive island on the behest of his recently deceased grandfather. There, he finds a group of “Peculiars”, boys and girls with extraordinary powers, under the guard of Miss Peregrine (Eva Green). Isolated from civilization thanks to a time loop created in 1943, they hide from a world that wouldn’t understand them but mostly, they hide from ghoulish Peculiars named Hollows - eyeball-eating fiends.
After Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Twilight there was a deluge of Young Adult Novel fantasy/sci-fi adventures, most of which were non-starters. The genre began on a high note (you should see how bad the Twilight knockoffs got) and fell sharply afterwards. This film is one of the few exceptions. It begins with an original premise. There’s a lot of mythology to digest with time loops and different factions of people with superpowers - honestly, it gets a bit confusing towards the end - but on the surface, it’s nice and digestible. Children with strange abilities living under the protection of a teacher that must keep them hidden. A lonely teen who befriends them. Monsters determined to ruin everything. Got it? Now we can examine the characters residing at the school. They’re fun because their abilities are varied and unique. You won't find stand-ins of popular superheroes here. Everyone at the school has something to contribute when the action scenes call for them but you can also see why these children's bizarre skills force them to live in isolation.
The story leans into the weirdness of Miss Peregrine’s home and then splits off into scenes that are either charming and wonderful or frightening and unsettling. The mix endears you to Jake and his new friends. It also makes the danger feel real. People getting their eyeballs eaten makes your skin crawl but it’s such a bizarrely gruesome fate it doesn’t feel like it would be too much for young (but not too young) audiences to handle. Such grisly choices make the story unpredictable. So much of this is so strange it wouldn't matter who it was happening to, you'd just want to see what was next. What are those twins hiding behind their mask? What’s it like living in a time loop? What’s the deal with the eyes, and with Jake’s grandfather? How can you combine all of the children’s mismatched abilities into a fighting force to repel the villains after them? The answers are wildly inventive.
Much to my disappointment, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a sequel to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. At least the picture makes the wise choice to end on a definitive note instead of teasing us something that’ll never come.
I suspect Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will be the kind of teen-oriented adventure some will absolutely fall in love with because of its quirks. It’s thrilling and a little bit loopy - and I mean that in a good way. (February 14, 2020)

Your Christmas or Mine 2 date confirmed
Prime Video has confirmed Your Christmas or Mine 2 will arrive on December 8. As I said before, the first film was my unexpected feel-good film for Christmas 2023, and I’m interested to see how they follow on. Also I’m a sucker for Christmas romcoms! Billed as the ski-son to be jolly! Your Christmas Or Mine 2 follows young couple James (Asa Butterfield) and Hayley (Cora Kirk), who are gearing…

My Upcoming Beetlebabes Fanfic
Summary: Told in dual time lines. After seeing the new tenants of the old Deetz home being relentlessly haunted with Lydia's name cryptically left on their walls and mirrors, Jane Butterfield enlists Lydia's help in convincing Beetlejuice to leave the home for good.
Upon reuniting with Beetlejuice he presents her with a new contract- one where she will spend one hour sessions with him in his therapy room, and says he will only leave the Deetz home once he finds a loophole in resurrecting in a way that doesn't involve marriage. In the present, Lydia is gone and a human Beetlejuice is scouring the country with Astrid in hopes of a lead in Lydia's whereabouts.
I'm very excited about this passion project I'm working on. I rewrote my initial fanfic so that I could write this instead. The idea was born from the most beautiful ending I could've ever imagined for Beetlejuice and Lydia.
From there, a roadtrip plot line developed, and I just liked the idea of human!Beetlejuice and Astrid on the road together getting on each other's nerves, getting into hijinks and bonding as they work toward the same goal- getting Lydia back.
The road trip part is more of a secondary storyline happening in the present time line. The main storyline is in the past so there's plenty of Lydia and Beetlebabes scenes. With each chapter, you'll get closer and closer to discovering how Beetlejuice became human and the mystery behind Lydia's disappearance.
I can't tell you what happened to her, but I can say that there will be plenty of romance, laughs and some tears. It's OK. We'll all cry together. lol Despite that, I can assure you this fic has a very happy ending because this world needs more happy endings.
On a final note, chapter 1 is done. Now half way into chapter 2. Hoping to try to upload at least 2 chapters a week. I think the fic will be 15 or 16 chapters total. Also still not sure what to name this fic.

Beetlejuice fan drums up Adam and Barbara murder theory.
Via METRO.
Movie fans have always been keen to dive deeper into their favourite films to bring about their own theories on what happened. Behind the script, if you will.
One of which has recently come about as to the deaths of Adam and Barbara Maitland (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) in Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice.
Mere minutes into the film, old mate Adam is driving along with his wife, Barbara, when they swerve to avoid hitting a dog and thus plunge into a river near their house. Sorry, spoiler alert.
Fans of the movie have since simply accepted they died because of the dog swerving incident.
However, what if there was foul play involved? Bet you never thought of that, eh?
One Reddit user has been quiet for too long and decided to put their theory to the world – and it’s got a lot of nods from the rest of the Beetlejuice-universe.
In a post titled: Adam & Barbara Maitland didn’t die in an accident. They were murdered!, the sceptic believed the dastard realtor Jane had something to do with it all.
‘[They were murdered] By none other than their rudely overbearing realtor, Jane Butterfield. From the very moment Jane jump scares her way into the story she’s hot on the Maitland’s asses to allow her to sell their house, and it’s noted, that they’ve refused repeatedly,’ they passionately wrote.
‘Adam & Barbara go into town almost immediately after Jane leaves their house and are killed returning home when their car goes off a bridge to avoid hitting a dog.
‘I propose that after being refused too many times and in need of a commission to care for her weirdass, sickly son [son? Jane has a daughter, little Jane}, that Jane cut the brakes of the Maitland’s car which is why they couldn’t stop from going off the bridge. Damage to the car hid Jane’s sabotage and she walked away scot free with a hefty commission after a quick turnover of the house to the Deetz’s.’
This is some groundbreaking stuff and Jane really has a lot to answer for.
While many a theory is immediately dismissed by the fandom, this one seemed to have legs (even though some did debate the extent to which Jane would have had to cut the brake line in order to have an effect on the car during the return from the store and not be noticed by Adam on the drive there…).
One agreed: ‘That would explain why they are ghosts doing a haunting instead of moving on. Unfinished business and foul play leading to ghosts and all that.’
Another added: ‘I’m good with it. I always thought she was creepy. And that does feel like a burtonesque tid bit! (sic)’
However some mechanics weren’t buying it, as one said: ‘She would’ve had to research how to perfectly cut the line so it lasted longer, and she would’ve had to been lucky that Adam wouldn’t notice any difference in his brakes, while also having the brakes only go out at the perfect time for it to matter at the bridge.
‘That’s a lot of coincidental stuff that has to come together for it to work.’
Look, whether Jane messed with the mechanics or not, the movie would have been so depressing had we just been stuck with Adam and his miniature model of the town.
Catherine O’Hara’s Delia and Winona Ryder’s Lydia really gave it some oomph.
Oh, and Beetlejuice.
