He probably should’ve been ashamed, to be caught staring. He did feel his face heat a little bit. But even as Regulus’s silver eyes gazed at him, he found he couldn’t turn away. He just stared back, trying to make sense of the mystery in front of him: what was Regulus thinking? What was he feeling? Why did James care so damn much? “…James? Hello, Prongs?” Sirius’s voice jolted him back to reality and he turned to meet equally-gray but not nearly as interesting eyes, though these were narrowed in confusion and suspicion.  “Erm. What?” He asked, knowing he was not helping himself.  “Suits, we have to start thinking about suits,” Remus supplied, amusement flickering across his face. “Right. You need suits for a wedding,” James answered sagely, trying to recover. It was Regulus who let out a little snort, eyes sparkling with amusement as he smirked towards James. Immediately, James noticed how stunning Regulus looked with a smile on his face. “Wow. I, for one, have learned so much today,” he quipped with a completely straight face. “Suits for a wedding? Who knew?”

“Miss us?” Tommy smirks, and Maria rolls her watery eyes while she pushes herself into his body.

“Like hell,” you say, launching yourself into Joel’s arms. He hugs you so tightly, and you almost can’t believe he’s here.

You breathe in his scent, tears stinging your eyes once again.

“Fuck, I can’t believe you’re here,” you parrot your thoughts, sobbing into Joel’s neck.

He runs his hand soothingly down your back, lips kissing your hair repeatedly.

He doesn’t say anything, but you can feel it in his body language—he needs to hold you right now.

Your arms squeeze him tighter, one hand raking up to the curls at the base of his neck. You separate your head from his body with a lilting smile.

“You need a haircut,” you tease, and you feel the way he huffs a laugh before cradling the back of your head. You look into his eyes and notice a sadness that wasn’t there before he left. There’s no familiar spark of joy.

He looks almost… haunted.

It was evident that something happened while they were in San Angelo.

And with that realization, a gut wrenching, nauseating feeling permeates throughout your entire body.

hiii! thank you to the lovely @almostfoxglove for the tag and also to the beautiful @iknowisoundcrazy for the tag last week! i took a week off writing but i'm slowly getting back into it again here's a very little snippet of the final chapter of wherever you go. it's been over two months since i updated this series so it's about damn time 🥲 any guesses as to who might be the unwanted guest? 👀

You were halfway through a bite, mouth stuffed full of scrambled eggs and bacon, when a blaring shriek almost pierced your eardrum. The noise startled you, instantly recognising it as the alarm from the basement that would get triggered when a trip wire from the perimeter was activated.

Bill first and then Joel jumped to their feet, forks clinking on the plates as they hurried downstairs. Torn between the choice of finishing your food and the curiosity of what was going on, you ended up following them with a sad pout.

“A clicker?” you ventured as you walked up to them.

Bill’s basement would have been pitch black if it wasn’t for all the monitors lighting up the room. He’d installed a few cameras around the compound to watch out for unwanted guests, whether they were dead or alive. He’d also set several booby traps around the perimeter, holes dug in the ground covered by expertly placed grass, mud and fallen leaves.

“I’m not sure, it sounds like—” Bill muttered, eyes squinting as he scanned the screen.

“Please let me out! Has someone pissed in here? Because it reeks of— Oh my God…” a faint male voice filtered through the speakers, some leaves flying out of the pit as the person inside desperately tried to get someone’s attention.

“Like they are alive,” you finished off Bill’s sentence.

“I’ll go check it out,” Joel offered, hand already grasping the gun attached to this belt.

“I’m coming too,” Bill grumbled, visibly annoyed at the prospect of another visitor.
