John Zorn - Live in Jazz in Marciac (France) 2010
Wow Yeah! What a performance, not to be missed.
Marc Ribot, one the of most underrated guitarists of the 20th and 21st Century is on fire. All musicians are having a blast. Damn they are all such incredible musicians, masters at their craft. John is directing the band for half an hour before he even get's out his sax and starts shredding.
John Zorn - direction, saxophone Marc Ribot - guitar Jamie Saft - piano, orgue Trevor Dunn - bass Kenny Wollesen - vibraphone Joey Baron - drums Cyro Baptista - percussion

My review to A Far Wilder Magic
Oh boy I finally finished this book and i am so disappointed. I wanted so much to LOVE this book. I bought this book last year and wanted it to be my autumn read, didn't work so I waited till next autumn. I've been waiting to read this book. To make it a part of my autumn girl persona 🤌🍂. I even bought the book signed on ebay. I really wanted to love this book. So ngl most likely (Obviously lol) I gone into this book with high expectations.
Above all, it annoys me even more that I didn't love this because there were a lot of things that I actually liked. First you will always get me with alchemy. I loved the magical System and it's stand in society and religion. I liked how real problems of individuals and society were taken and put into their own world with a touch of magic.
I liked both main characters. They both struggled with self-doubt and trying just to get through life without the mentioning of their issues becoming too repetitive. I liked how the background of both MCs has addressed migration and minorities. With Weston espacially how that background affects his acceptance in the alchemical world. In regards to Maggi, I was heartbroken for her and wanted to slap half of her town, especially Jamie. Fuck you Jamie 💀. I liked the slow burn between the two. Allison Saft's writing was good and I got my chilly autumn vibe.
But it was overall... Idk the right word, there were just so many chapters in this book that I just wanted to get over with and didn't really enjoy reading. There was something going on but also nothing going on. It was enough that you kept reading but nothing that would really catch you.
If I hadn't been currently commuting around 5 hours on weekdays and hadn't found the audio book on the internet, I don't think I would have been able to finish the book. I finished this only NOW, took me 3 months.
Maybe one point when I reflect on it is that the points mentioned above that I liked, especially with the prejudices against migrants, were more tell than show. Or, sadly, that it was nothing new to me. I have a migration background myself 🤷🏻‍♀️
Like uff I am still disappointed. I wanted to love this book. A Far Wilder Magic why didn't we click? I wanted us to click... 😂😭

New music | Cyro Baptista!
We are thrilled to welcome renowned percussionist and Composer Cyro Baptista to the Ropeadope community. His vast talent and penchant for innovation have ganred respect as one of the top musicians on the planet.
Chama by Cyro Baptista
Cyro’s credits read like a "Who’s Who" of modern music. His talent and versatility have led to associations with a wide range of leading jazz, rock, pop, classical, avant-garde and Brazilian artists. From Paul Simon to Yo-Yo-Ma, Herbie Hancock to Kathleen Battle, Trey Anastasio (Phish) to John Zorn, Wynton Marsalis to Laurie Anderson, from the legendary Brazilians Milton Nascimento and Caetano Veloso to Sting –  they all wanted Cyro’s magic touch on their recordings or live performances.
Baptista leads four different ensembles and tours continuously, most recently with the Trey Anastasio Band. He conducts master classes at major musical institutions, such as Juilliard School, Creative Music Studio, Berklee College of Music, NYU, The New School, and more. He clearly has a great interest in education, sharing his knowledge and experiences to underserved factions of society through his “Sound of Community” initiative.
Cyro Baptista brings us Chama on May 5: a non-stop journey of both dedication to key influences (including The Earth) and of collaboration. Guests include Todd Clouser and Laurie Anderson, with key players Brian Marsella, Gil Oliveira, Felipe Hostings, Aaron Cruz, Jamie Saft, Sergio Brandão and more.

Mike Pride has taken material from punk band MDC’s iconic 1982 debut album, Millions of Dead Cops and reinterpreted the songs as jazz standards. On the album, entitled I Hate Work, the virtuosic drummer Pride is accompanied by pianist Jamie Saft and bassist Bradley Christopher Jones. It was released on Nov 19 2021 on Rare Noise Records. JG Thirlwell guests-vocalizes on the track ‘America’s So Straight’. A video for the song was directed by Anais Blondet, which you can see at the link. The album also features appearances by Mick Barr (Ocrilim, Krallice), Sam Mickens (The Dead Science) and MDC frontman Dave Dictor.

Jamie Saft Plays Cage and Granelli - solo piano
Jamie Saft Plays John Cage + Jerry Granelli Music, Traditions + Codified Gestures. Everything is a reaction to everything else. Contemporary beauty standards. •••••2. belonging to or occuring in the present. con•tem•po•rar•y a person or thing living or existing at the same time as another. contemporaries What is the difference between improvised + composed music to the listener? Why Cage + Granelli? Mr. Saft answers - In my mind it's the same approach - painting with sound. Notes and rhythms all have equal importance. Tone color too.
