・It was like James couldn't breathe; your eyes, there was something so ... invigorating about them. They drew him in. Words became difficult.

・But when you pulled a weapon, he snapped back into his normal self.

・With his sword pressed against your neck, your smirked and in a flash, twirled and slipped out a hidden dagger. With the sharp knife pressed against his throat, you both subconciously agreed never to hurt one another. Even if you were sworn enemies.

"What's your name?" James said sternly. The height difference made it harder to keep your dagger pressed to his skin.

"Oh, wig, wouldn't you like to know?" And then you lightly bit his ear and disappeared.

・A shiver went down his spine.

・And he hoped no one saw the interaction, because now he was smiling.

・When you were apart, time felt like it was going by too quickly. James was yearning for you, his heart thudding whenever he thought about you.

・After running into each other three separate times, being away from you was too much to bear.

・When you were together, time stopped.

・Eyes looking into eyes. Hands caressing the smallest part of bare skin. Both of you were breathless.

・But you had to keep this from your crew. From the rest of the pirate community.

・If they knew you were together with someone from the law, no one would trust you.

・Your nickname for him is 'wig,' since he always wears that awful powdered white wig. You've told him how terrible it is, but he sees it as another badge for his status.

・Being together means you become more open-minded. You see things from each other's point of views.

・You love the way he becomes so flustered when you whisper in his ear. He always thanks the good god in heaven that he's wearing sleeves because goosebumps erupt as well.

・When he whispered, "I love you," for the first time, you couldn't breathe. This wasn't supposed to go so far. But it did. It has.

・You sat up as thoughts flooded your head.

・Could you ever get married? Would either of you even want to quit your life for the other?

・You looked back at James, who was sprawled in the sheets. His ugly wig discarded, no uniform to be found.

・All you wanted to do was stay in his arms. But your crew could only stay drunk for so long. And you had to get back to them.

・One thing you did know, was that his love would last.

・But your life wasn't ready to change just yet; so you both got dressed, kissed each other goodbye and ... walked away.

How They Confess

For the anon who wanted to know how the characters would confess their feelings, and how they would react if the reader confessed first.

This includes Jack, Will, Lizzie, James, Beckett, and Barbossa.

Jack:

Jack isn’t one to make a grand show of things, and if he’s to confess, it’ll be in a moment of simplicity. You’ll be curled up together in his cabin, warm and drowsy, soft light shining out from the lanterns. He can only admit it to you when he’s completely relaxed—he can hardly admit it to himself sometimes, how much he loves you. But he says it softly in your ear, and you’re more pleased than surprised, already tangled together in the sheets. Your brain’s a bit fuzzy anyway, and the full weight of it wouldn’t hit you until the next morning. But by then he’s up and out on deck, and you’re left with the knowledge that he really does love you after all. 

If you’re the first to confess, Jack would be taken aback. He doesn’t expect you to love him, not really, so it comes as a bit of a shock to his system. It would take him some time to process, too, and he has to do some serious introspection before he can say it back. Love is a heavy thing in his eyes, and he’s not about to mess it up. 

Will:

Though he can be bashful, Will is completely unashamed of his feelings for you. If you’re of the same social station, he’ll simply tell you how he feels by taking you out for a walk along the oceanfront. If you’re too far above him on the social ladder, he’ll keep his feelings to himself, though they shine through with all the things he does for you to make life easier and more convenient. 

If you speak up first, Will’s a little embarrassed, but in a good way. He feels a little guilty for not saying anything, but quickly gets over it; he’s just happy you feel the same, and that you’re comfortable enough in your affection to tell him. He likes that you can own it—not everyone is attracted to blacksmiths. Besides, hearing the words from you is just the confidence boost he needs. 

Elizabeth:

Elizabeth wants to make her confession as perfect as she can. She does it over a nice dinner, just the two of you, and she’s pulled out the candles for the occasion. She’s a romantic at heart, and wants to have the right atmosphere in which to tell you how she feels. She’s really one for the aesthetic. It’s honestly rather cute, the effort she puts in, and you’d be lying if you said you didn’t enjoy it. 

If you’re the first to confess, Lizzie is just delighted. She has butterflies for days, and be prepared for all the secret little messages dictated by high society. I’m talking fan-signals, flower language, the whole package. Even though she loves you earnestly, and even though you know both know it, she’s absolutely going to make the most of the courtship process and all it entails.

James:

We all know how awkward James is about confessing his feelings. He’s been rehearsing for days, and is almost too anxious to do it in the first place. He’s afraid of coming off too strong, and overanalyzes every interaction you’ve had together. He ensures the setting is both pleasant and proper, and though it may seem a little stiff, you’re aware the confession is genuine. That being said, the moment you indicate the feeling is mutual, his composure cracks and he gives you that huge smile he tries so hard to hide. 

If you beat him to it, he’d be shocked. Not only is he surprised that you made the first move, which is so expected of him, but he honestly had no idea you felt that way about him. It takes him a good long time to find the right words to tell you he feels the same, and you’ll have to be patient as he recovers from his astonishment. 

Beckett:

This man is never, ever, going to admit to loving you. He won’t even let himself think about his affection for you. In all truth and honesty, he’s terrified of his feelings, seeing them as a weakness that someone will figure out and exploit. He’s also afraid you won’t feel the same way. How could you? It would take a serious moment of vulnerability—either when something awful happens to you, or when you show him honest tenderness. Either way, it’s completely unexpected and almost unbelievable…until you see the fear in his eyes and realize it’s the truth. 

If you make the first move, Beckett doesn’t think you’re serious. He’s willing to play along, but he figures you want something from him. So he brushes it off, though your words linger in his mind for days after. He’s probably in his office doing paperwork when it hits him that you were being completely serious, and he’s absolutely overcome by it. He makes sure to explain himself when he sees you next; he just didn’t think someone could feel that way about him. 

Barbossa:

Barbossa is, if nothing else, a gentleman at heart. Again, this will likely be a dinner confession, though Hector isn’t nearly as anxious as Elizabeth might be. He’s been around a while, and he’s really only going to say anything if he’s fairly certain you’re interested. He also isn’t offended if you reject—he completely understands why someone wouldn’t want to be with him. He’s relaxed about the whole affair so you never have to feel nervous over any of it. If it turns out you are interested, he’s going to treat you with perfect curtesy and warm affection.

If you’re the first to say anything, Hector’s a bit smug. He might be slightly sheepish that you beat him to it, but overall, he’s happy to hear you say it. He’ll tease you over it in good humor, though he knows you can give as good as you get. He’s secretly happy to hear you say it because he’s insecure about his age.

Hector Barbossa and James Norrington from Pirates of the Caribbean deserve their time in the spotlight.

it was the same thing over & over since he woke up in ...this place. town. since he woke up in this town. new... haven... safe haven. safe from who? he'd felt pretty safe in the forest, had ..he not been? he missed it. they showed him the park in town, the small forest at the edge of this mysterious barrier that kept them safe from ..something. or someone. it was a fine forest, but.. he missed the vastness of the place he'd called home for the longest time.

town was .. a lot. blinking lights, music & voices all around - he had no idea how the others who lived here managed. it was so loud. there was so much to do, to see, to experience. where was he supposed to start? half of the things he was old he should totally do .. he didn't understand. his human was ... abysmal at best, but he tried. he wanted to communicate. he wanted to express himself, let them know what he felt. the fox ... wanted to speak.

he also wanted to swim. well, he didn't want to. it... was scary. he wasn't afraid of water or getting wet, not at all, but this ... lake in town.. was horrifying. it looked so deep james couldn't even see the ground. who.. thought that was a good idea? what were they even good for? other than to sit there... all intimidating, all threatening. it wouldn't even budge. there was no escaping its vicinity. no way.

he was grateful the alpha offered help. he ... wasn't quite sure about the payment, his human didn't get him that far, but he assumed he would pay whatever he asked for & until then he'd take as much help as he got. although, this.. was horrifying, standing at the edge & just... pondering if he even wanted help.

"d-deep." he whined softly, his pants & shirt had been discarded so he didn't get everything wet if he did ... get in. did he want to? yes & no. he.. said sit, so.. james sat with his feet up in front of him, long limbs bent to keep them out of the cold wetness. one foot ...went... slowly, hesitantly - seemingly checking for danger. he could live with one foot, but without any feet? not really. it ..seemed safe, although he still glanced back & up at the other, waiting for ... praise confirmation that he was... doing well. it wasn't before that... that he lowered his second leg into it & eventually .... his body, at least... some of it, arms on the edge to hold himself up as far as possible.

"c-cold..."

"Well, sailor?" The merman said at the edge of large rainwater pool at Hector's humble ancient above--an impluvium system that he he had learned from Rome, then greatly scaled up for more depth. He did not need to... 'drink' water exactly in the way terrestrials understand it, he lives very well within in. The pool passively and effectively collected cold rainfall in rainy Connecticut, tilting and dripping it down into this large pool at the center of his courtyard. Salinity was adjusted at however much he could afford or was feeling luxurious that month, but rainwater cannot hurt, it only feels inferior to saltwater. For now, arms crossed on the stone edge, hair heavy and slicked back, piercing dark blue eyes staring up at this rehabilitated puppy who's afraid of a little water. As he should. It is a dangerous place. But today, he must learn to, in the very least, survive on his own by swimming... let alone deal with its cold residents who lurk in the dark. That is an entirely different battle. Puppy eyes of hesitation and fear humor him, but do not dissuade him. Fear is fragility, hesitation is weakness. Incompetence was death. The wild fox must learn to adapt to this modern world. There is no alternative. Hector... was not feral (much to the contrary) but he understood being out of place, and out of time. He conquered it. He continues to learn and adapt. You will too, then, sailor. "You may not stand there for all eternity, waiting for this well to evaporate and run dry. Enter. I will support you. Sit on the edge, place your feet within, then slide forward. The water does not bite. I do. However, that is not the objective for your first lesson."

How they would comfort you

Jack Sparrow:

• Jack Sparrow has a habit of trying to fix problems on his own, and when he wanted to fix whatever had you bothered, you ask him not to, that the best thing he can do for you is just to remain by your side, so he obliges

• Jack will try to get an image of how you’re feeling, but it’s a challenge when it comes to reading body language rather than hear it through words

• Jack isn’t very good at reading others, even you. You always have to tell him, which you honestly didn’t mind doing.

• Jack never was good at offering good advice once you’ve finished telling him. By doing this, Jack seems to be a good listener.

• He offers physical affection, his actions are stronger than words when it comes to you and sometimes that was better, all you need to see that everything is okay and will work out in the end

• Physical affection would include running his fingers lightly through your hair, and that often did the trick in making you feel so relaxed that you begin to doze off

• The next step in physical affection would be taking you into his sleeping quarters and the both of you would be cuddling as he continues to comfort you

• Pulls you close to him

• Promising you in a hushed tone that he would always be there for you

• Once you begin to feel better, you begin to speak

• “Can we stay like this for a little while? It’s nice.”

• Jack would release a small laugh as he agrees to your request

• He loves you to pieces and hated it to see that something has bothered you so much

• Jack had a way of making it all seem not so bad

Hector Barbossa:

• To see you so upset, the very first thing that Barbossa would often think you were upset because of something he has done

• It took a lot for him to finally ask you if it was anything he did and would try to comfort you with apologies before giving you the chance to explain what was going on

• Once you confirmed it had nothing to do with anything he had done, it was a huge relief for him as he tries to help you through whatever was troubling

• Unlike Jack Sparrow, he uses words as a tool for comforting you, he’ll say the sweetest things to you, in which you know he is very sincere and is true to them, no matter how long in time

• “I’m glad you came into my life.” he would say, causing you to blush

• Upon seeing that, he waited until you were ready to tell him what was going on that made you upset

• When you did tell him, he pulls you in his embrace and pulls you close while you continue on telling him

• “I’m here for you.” is how it all starts, and you think it’s the best place to start.

• sometimes he will try and tell you stories from his past adventures

• Your favorite ones to hear about are the ones about Jack Sparrow

• Whenever you feel this way, Barbossa would know how to take care of you and help you to feel better

• He often doesn’t say it, but in this case, he said it again, almost as if he was taking back in time where the two of you confessed feelings for each other

• “I love you, so much.” he would say, followed by your own feelings for him.

• “I love you, too.”

Davy Jones:

• It doesn’t take long for Davy to pick up on the fact that something was wrong, or that something seemed to have upset you and he was determined to get to the bottom of it and find out

• One of the signs he picked up on was the fact that your ability to remember things had seemed to gone out the window

• Next, if you have messed up just the slightest, no matter how small, you seemed to get easily irritated and even close to very emotional, which is very unlike you

• The last part of it was you have suddenly fallen ill, even though the day before you were perfectly healthy

• Of course, Davy didn’t want to find out just by asking so at first, he asks some of the most trusted crew mates to look after you and report back to him if they notice anything

• When that didn’t work, he had no choice but to come right out and ask you, and he worried that it would upset you

• It did a little in the beginning, but you don’t spill everything out at once. So every night as you’re recovering, he comes to visit and you just take baby steps in telling him everything. During that time spent together, you’ve become closer as he gets to know you better

• After learning what’s going on, Davy’s soft spot for you only grew, as he now isn’t afraid to spare you the treatment in front of everyone from now on

• Comfort shows more from his actions than words, but he’s very good at it

• A couple of times, you’ve noticed Davy keeping an eye on you if you’re not close by, he just wants to make sure you’re not in any kind of danger, keeping you safe from harm

• The crew now respects you a little more than they have before

Will Turner:

• If you’re upset about something, it’s easy for him to tell, it’s nearly impossible to hide anything from Will

• He knows just by simply holding your hand brings you calm and comfort, so you’re often seen around holding his hand

• If you have to part ways for even just a few seconds or minutes, he’s always reluctant to leave your side, even with knowing you’d still be there when he returns to you, almost like he never left for a brief moment

• “Don’t go where I can’t follow!” he’d say, but that would be when you go off on your own a little bit

• Hearing Will say that never failed to bring a smile to your face. Upon your return, Will sometimes is overly dramatic with greetings. Usually he greets you with a hug that tells you he thought he’d never see you again.

• You don’t complain, you return the hug before going off with him

• Will was very protective of you, especially during those times you would get upset and often, he would think it was because of something he had done

• “Don’t lie for me, (Y/n).” he’d say.

• You were always truthful with him

• You both work together on looking for ways to get rid of whatever it was that was making you so upset

James Norrington:

• No matter how hard you may try, it was just too easy for James to pick up on the scent that you were very bothered by something

• Once it was confirmed, he would ask you what it was, nearly demanding answers from you

• However, seeing as upset as you were once he started asking, he allowed for you to take all the time in the world that was required of your need to compose yourself just enough to at least.m tell him what was going on

• He refused to leave your side once he knows and tries his best to comfort you in ways he believed would bring you comfort

• And it worked

• You’re hardly leaving his side and he’s hardly ever letting you go out of his sight

• Unlike some, James Norrington was very understanding and sincerely cared

• From than on, he wasn’t afraid to put you first before anything else

• Even though it may have gotten him in trouble a few times, he continued and didn’t care about the trouble it got him in

• You would ask for him to worry about you later, but he wasn’t having it

• “Not a chance in the world.” he’d say.

• Which only made you fall in love with him even more

• It was those awful nightmares that was bothering you, they seemed to never have any plans on ever going away

• If anything, they got worse each time you had one

• One night, you had a real bad one, one that made you scream and thrash around in your sleep

• Of course, that woke James up and he comes to your aid as he begins comforting you

• “I heard you screaming again, is it the nightmares?”

• You nod as you feel like you couldn’t breathe and that’s when James started his mission to comfort you back to sleep

• “Hey, just look at me. Breathe.”

• You did and soon, you started feeling better and laid back down to go back to sleep.

• Just as you were about to enter sleep, you were awakened a short minute at the feel of James Norrington’s hand in yours

• “Hold my hand. You’re going to be fine.”

• “I could use a hug.” you say sleepily.

• The last thing you remember before falling asleep was seeing the smile form on his lips, followed by the feel of him holding you

• Finally, a peaceful sleep takes over

Jack would feel something sticky when he first reaches up to adjust his hat.

The same hat he treasured more than almost anything else, the same hat he’s known all too well for, the hat he’s crazy for, the hat he nearly treats as if it’s an actual living being rather than some sort of object.

He wasn’t sure what had come about his hair, but this wouldn’t be the first time something got stuck in it, and he shudders at the thought of someone else’s hands touching his hair if he asked for help. However, he was only comfortable with allowing you to help, it wouldn’t be the first time. From the short time you’ve been on the Pearl, there had been countless times of your captain coming to you for help and each time, you did so. You would help free his hair of whatever it was you untangled from it, and it was with you doing so without resorting to the option of cutting his hair firsthand that gained you his trust. While you were at your post responding to your duties, you couldn’t help as your eyes fall to Jack Sparrow once again, fiddling with his hair as if something was stuck in it.

Of course he had something stuck in it, something sticky.

The minute you decided you could no longer stand there seeing him struggle, you go down to help out your captain. Jack recognized the sound of your footsteps and calls you out in a greeting, knowing you must have seen him struggling.

“Hey (Y/n), can you help? I don’t know what’s in my hair this time, it just doesn’t want to come out.”

“Of course.”

As you observe what was in his hair, you couldn’t help but chuckle after seeing it was a piece of gum.

Upon hearing you chuckle, Jack panicked a little while asking you what it was. You didn’t want to tell him right away, knowing he wouldn’t like the answer.

“You have something in your hair, umm… Do you want me to get it out?”

That worried Jack into thinking you were going to cut his hair, or you were at least trying to ask him if you could.

“No, it’s fine-“

“Relax, it’s just gum. I know a trick to get it out without having to cut it out.”

Once that he was able to process that information, Jack manages to relax before agreeing to let you help make his hair feel free again.

Which didn’t take you long, not long at all. You were truly honored to be doing this for Jack and strangely enough, doing this for him had formed a strong friendship between the two of you. After announcing to Jack Sparrow that the gum was out and he still had his hair, it was like a breath of fresh air to him before turning to thank you.

“Thank you, (Y/n).”

“No problem at all, Jack.”

You smile at him before returning to your duties that your post requires.

Jack knew he owed you one.
